DOOM Eternal, is probably the best fps game I ever played. The movement system is very smooth and satisfying, and the Doom Slayer moves fast, which is good in such a fast-paced game. I also liked that they decided to go more in-depth with lore and the story of DOOM, so now you aren't just killing demons without purpose. 10/10 Expand

This game is absolutely brilliant as a new doom fan myself only getting into the franchise in 2016 this game is an improvement to a masterpiece improving in music design, level design and replay ability. After going back and playing the main doom releases (we don't talk about doom 3) This game is a love letter to all doom fans no matter when you joined the fandom. Not interested in the story? You can skip almost every cut scene want more read the codex still not satisfied purchase the DLC's game to easy? Play ancient gods part 1 ultra-nightmare is stupidly difficult but good fun and amazing challenge finding the game too difficult? Ancient gods part 2 or play on an easy difficulty then move up per play through it sounds annoying but it is rewarding and great fun. This game is an action paced love letter and masterpiece one of my favourite games of all time fun i could keep going all day. Great purchase i would snatch this game up whenever possible it is on sale a lot if you are a bit strapped for cash but the replay ability you will get all of the money you spent back and more in entertainment. A personal flaw i have with the game is the sludge in any mission it shows up in as it just slows the game down and another flaw i have is that the game never leaves my mind i am always thinking about ways to improve and if you die 99% of the time it is your fault and you can learn something from each death and it is a great laugh to watch my friends who recently picked up the game fail and get frustrated.

Here, the gameplay is elevated to near insanity with constant movement and strategic foresight becoming a necessity in nearly every demonic engagement. My most memorable moment is battling a demonic titan with scores of demons hounding my every move. The demons in Doom have one mission, killing the Doom Slayer. The A.I. is relentless and the action feels hectic and blood pounding. One must use every tool at their disposal to survive and doing so feels rewarding. The gunplay combo system developed for Doom Eternal is excellent. Every weapon has a place, and some are more effective in taking out certain demons. Most demons have specific weaknesses that can be exploited to gain the upper hand in chaotic battles. The dash and climbing/swinging vertical movement abilities are also great and feel necessary. The Doom Slayer can hook shot into a dangerous demon, shoot, double dash out, and double jump up to avoid an otherwise devastating counterattack. The game's levels are massive and gorgeous. Each level contains cinematic set pieces like corpses of massive demons or otherworldly castles and vistas. Further, each level contains challenges like superb slayer gates (a subzone full of demons to slaughter), or purple combat zones (timed kill demon challenges), or hidden secrets, and upgrades. These make the levels even more fun by adding depth in level exploration. Secret hunting is aided by a fantastic map layout that is readable and easy to use. Another great addition is the ability to teleport to any level subzone once one has neared the end of a level. I often cleared an entire level and would teleport around picking up any secrets I missed or fighting any demons I accidently spared. Doom Eternal is riddled with multiple systems that are not overly complex but a bit overwhelming initially. The Doom Slayer can burn enemies to gain armor, chainsaw them to gain ammo, and glory kill (activate a cinematic kill when a demon is close to death) to gain health. The Doom Slayer is allowed one of two mods per weapon unlocking unique firing modes. These mods are found off little robots in the game’s levels. Each mod can be upgraded through arsenal points obtained through clearing demons in levels. The Slayer’s armor can be upgraded with tokens found throughout levels. The Slayer’s health, ammo count, and armor can be upgraded by finding crystals hidden in different levels. The Doom Slayer can equip three runes that provide different perks such as faster glory kills or more control while airborne. The Doom Slayer is also equipped with ice, explosive grenades, and later a crucible blade that can slice through demons. The Doom Slayer also has a massive ship called the Citadel of Doom. Power nodes collected in levels can power up the ship allowing the Doom Slayer access to mod upgrades, armor tokens, and crystals. Initially, I thought these systems felt unnecessary and detracted from the fun gameplay, but in the end every system provides a helpful benefit that was not overly complicated to employ. The game's narrative is not the most interesting thing in the world but honestly it does not matter when the gameplay is so engrossing. Doom Eternal is chaos, blood, and awesome rolled into a first-person shooter. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Doom Eternal, developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks, is the highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed 2016 reboot, Doom. This first-person shooter game takes players on a relentless, adrenaline-fueled adventure, offering an arsenal of weapons, ferocious enemies, and visually stunning environments. In this detailed review, we will explore the key aspects that make Doom Eternal a standout title in the FPS genre.

    Gameplay:
Doom Eternal boasts a remarkably fast-paced and engaging gameplay experience. From the very beginning, players find themselves immersed in intense combat scenarios with hordes of demons. The game strikes the perfect balance between skill-based shooting and strategic movement, requiring players to constantly be on their toes. You will be flipping, dashing, and vaulting over obstacles while dispatching enemies using an extensive arsenal of weapons.

The combat mechanics in Doom Eternal are refined and satisfying. Each weapon has a distinct purpose and is upgradeable, allowing players to customize their playstyle. Additionally, the new "Flame Belch" and "Chainsaw" mechanics give combat a strategic edge by encouraging resource management and providing health and ammo rewards.

    Level Design:
One of the standout features of Doom Eternal is its level design. Each level is meticulously crafted, showcasing a creative blend of architecture, atmospheric lighting, and a diversity of locales. From the fiery depths of Hell to the decaying ruins of Earth, every environment feels unique and offers a sense of wonder. The attention to detail is outstanding, and exploration is generously rewarded with hidden secrets and upgrades.

Moreover, Doom Eternal introduces new platforming elements that seamlessly integrate into the gameplay. These sections provide a refreshing change of pace, requiring players to solve puzzles and navigate through challenging jumps and obstacles. The platforming, combined with the robust combat and level design, creates a truly immersive and varied experience.

    Story and Atmosphere:
Doom Eternal packs a surprisingly strong narrative that delves deeper into the lore of the Doom universe. Players assume the role of the Doom Slayer, a legendary warrior in a relentless battle against the forces of Hell. The game unravels an engaging storyline through cutscenes and environmental storytelling, leaving players hungry for more as they progress through the campaign.

The game's atmosphere is superbly executed, striking a deft balance between horror and action. The dark, foreboding environments are complemented by an intense and dynamic musical score that perfectly enhances the gameplay experience.

    Multiplayer and Replayability:
Doom Eternal offers a variety of multiplayer options, including Battlemode, a 2v1 asymmetric multiplayer mode that pits one player as the Doom Slayer against two others controlling demons. Battlemode is a fresh and unique take on multiplayer, promoting teamwork, strategy, and skillful execution.

The game also provides ample replayability, thanks to its challenging difficulty levels and hidden collectibles. Upon completing the campaign, players can replay missions, striving for faster times and higher scores. The inclusion of New Game Plus mode allows players to carry over their unlocked abilities and weapons, adding an extra layer of depth.

    Conclusion:
Doom Eternal is a tour de force in the FPS genre, delivering a heart-pounding and exhilarating experience. With its refined gameplay mechanics, breathtaking level design, compelling story, and engaging multiplayer options, the game satisfies both the hardcore and casual gamers alike. Whether you are a long-time fan of the series or new to the franchise, Doom Eternal is an absolute must-play for anyone seeking an adrenaline-fueled shooter that pushes the boundaries of action gaming.

This is a great single-player FPS experience. I honestly can't rationalize giving this game anything lower than a 9. I only reserve 10's for games that are groundbreaking and set a new bar for gaming. This is not quite there, but it's done very well.

Gameplay is extremely fast paced, brutal, and challenging. You will find yourself starved for ammunition, so you do have to make sure your hits count, and often keep track of where ammunition is around the areas you're fighting in so that you can reach for it when you need it. To make up for low ammo, you can use blood punches or the chainsaw. This gives you very strong incentive to be precise with your hits. Also, dashing is introduced into this iteration, which is not just for platforming, but to give you tactical advantages in combat. Using the Flame Belcher and grenades/bombs is also another feature that adds more tactical elements to the game, making the combat more dynamic than ever before.

Make no mistake, this game WILL kick your ass. I'm no noob at FPS games, played everything from the original Doom/Doom 2, Doom 2016, Quake, Unreal Tournament, Call of Duty series, and having completed most of these at the highest difficulty level. My first time playthrough was on Hurt Me Plenty and I died quite often. I even felt slightly hopeless at certain times, like I literally felt that I wasn't gonna be able to beat certain encounters, which is extremely rare for me. The controls take some time to get used to, and ammunition is hard to come by, but once you tough through it and reach a certain skill level, you will find that the game becomes quite rewarding. The game does give you lots of tips for fighting monsters, but do not expect this game to hold your hand. It will beat you to a bloody pulp and it will not pull any punches. You will not survive with pure aggression like Doom 2016 - aggression is still rewarded, but you have to be more tactical. The game does reward skill and the challenge is satisfying to overcome.

As for the negatives, the platforming is slightly annoying and I feel the game could have done without it, but in the end it didn't detract from my overall experience. The weapons do feel a bit underpowered overall. The story seems like it bounces between taking itself too seriously, but also often self-deprecating with "mortally challenged" jokes. But story is not something I care too much about in a Doom game.

Overall, I feel that this is a very good FPS, one of the best I've ever played, and overall I felt it was an improvement over Doom 2016, which was also a great game. But if you expect a game to reward you for all-out aggression with guns blazing like 2016, this isn't it. If you're okay with that, then I fully recommend this game.

Because of it's genre it's still going to be repetitive in nature, and the story is pretty straightforward, and there will be no character development whatsoever. They make up for that with more tactical shooting gameplay, spraying will get you killed; you must remain moving, enemies have weakpoints, general weakness, etc. The game mixes exploration, platforming and enemy encounters pretty well, and overall this is probably one of the best fps games this gen.

Bonus: they also have a multiplayer gamemode called battlemode. It's a 2 v 1 mode, one player is the doomguy, other 2 are demons.. with all their abilites available to them, it's essentially a deathmatch. Demons can summon extra A.I enemies, and overall it's pretty unique. mechanic wise it's solid, but personally I don't see myself spending a lot of time in this mode.I personally didn't really like playing as doomguy and there are just better multiplayer games on the market. But options never hurt.

Doom eternal takes T H A T general gameplay element (adds more heavy metal cartoonish aesthetic) and ramps it up to create a more fluid (probably more accessible honestly) direction. They use the OLD models (for the most part) of the enemies....like...its more DOOM then DOOM 3 and DOOM 2016 (Doom 3 is a piece of **** bad...the gameplay is clunky, it's not spooky scary - - it's frustrating and cheap)

I do believe that maybe the way Ammo and Health pickups work is potentially a bit irritating (also ammo size for the guns probably NEEDS to be upped in a patch, also potentially add more chances to find ammo and health kits around the mappps) But the general idea behind it is kinda cool. YOU as the Doom Slayer need to maintain and work on your direction of fire and take advantage of your arsenal throughout the environmental **** even use the terrain to your advantage...

It's still RIP AND TEAR...But now its more RIP AND TEAR strategically.

I like DOOM 2016 but it feels a lot easier and less challenging compared to how they balanced all the new mechanics within Eternal. Also the Narrative this time round is more compelling from a DOOM nerd-lore perspective. It is more arcady then all the other doom games too...but I'm kinda okay with it... all the doom games have really silly (Legit DOOM 2 is about the doom guy getting revenge for the death of his rabbit) situation based carnage.

The game makes YOU the player need to seriously BRING it to these Demons. After about 3 or 4 hours I've finally gotten the hang of the environment and the terrian. Im finding it MUCH more satisfying killing these demon ****

Platforming is also a SERIOUS LEGIT issue the game has...this cannot reaaallly be fixed....It just kinda...idk...takes away from the KILL IT carnage....that would be my ABSOLUTE biggest grip.

Overall. I kinda love this game. It's fun. It's absolutely intense and violent.
Guns do need a bit of a buff tho. Although, I reckon this is something that can (and most likely well) be fixed by the id Software lads.

I didn’t realize what I wanted until I got it so that’s why it’s 9/10. But in all seriousness the game is beautiful & the developers really caught lightning in a bottle. I always start games in the hardest level available. I had to drop it down a level & swallow my pride until I learned how to play differently. The game is just an absolute power fantasy you feel like the most bad ass guy around. People bash the game for lots of things but none of them feels justified. Most of them just hate it for being different from 2016. You see in 2016 about the only challenge in the game was the damage the enemies dished out, you basically never ran out of ammo so you could just pick a weapon and blow through the game with it. You had the chainsaw to replenish your ammo if need be but you never had to because the levels were littered with ammo health and armor. That's not to say that I didn't like it, it's just that eternal just flat out better in every regard, the levels have way less resources so you absolutely need to use everything you have to win and the game throws twice the amount of enemies at you to deal with . It's also much more video-gamey in a sense that there are lots of retro elements in it. Like all sorts of hazards that you have to navigate, platforming sections and extra lives to collect. It's much more colourful, and the overall aspect of the game is more like a cool 90s action cartoon, just with gallons of blood. It's much more story heavy it expands upon the lore that was in 2016 but not in a way that would come in expense of gameplay its really well balanced. It seems that the people at id software sat down and said "you know what let's make f*cking videogame, not a cinematic experience, no, an awesome videogame." And that is what it feels like to play Eternal, a really cool and very challenging game. Some players are complaining about a certain enemy that ruins the flow of the game... I have no idea why they feel this way. Every enemy presents a unique challenge that you constantly need to be aware of and deal with them accordingly. It feels very polished and everything serves a purpose. I absolutely understand what Id software tried to accomplish with this game, and they nailed it. If you thought that doom 2016 was good but something was just amiss, then Eternal will be right up your alley. I will not give it a perfect score because there are some minor gripes I had with the game, like some glory kills would not register correctly so I had to replay a level so I can complete the level challenge and one or two weapons or weapon mods are just not that interesting to play around with but that could be a personal issue. All in all Doom Eternal is just a flat out good time. 9/10 Expand

Doom Eternal is a perfect sequel that moves faster, hits harder, and feels better than it's predecessor. Don't get me wrong, Doom 2016 was an absolutely astounding reboot that reinvented and reinvigorated the Doom franchise by setting the new benchmark for fast paced FPS games, but Doom Eternal brilliantly builds upon those established elements with panache and flair. So let me get on to it Doom Eternal which I didint think would top Doom, it did it’s such an amazing work of art the gameplay is just amazing and has much more thought to it than the first game it felt so amazing swinging around pulling off glory kills right when I thought I would die. This game has some great boss battles as well such great spectacle and vistas to see in the backgrounds the soundtrack is killer, the enemy designs are great and even the story is a little better than the first I gues I only have about two complaints about the game and one of them most people are complaining about of course it’s the Marauder he is such a pain in the ass to kill while trying to deal with other enemies this guy will make you rage quit but at the same time I kinda liked that he was in it, it pissed me off but he was such a cool design for an enemy. The other complaint is that the game can be really freaking hard sometimes this game will punish you so much it’ll make you not want to play for a while but hats of to ID for making this gorgeous masterpiece of gameplay I gotta say it’s gonna be hard going back to other FPS games without the gameplay of Doom Eternal Expand

You can also call it "Awesome mode" and **** mode" similarly.

The campaign is a linear adventure with huge maps and knock down drag out combat interspersed with some exploration and secret farming. Combat is fantastic, and to the credit of id, they allow skins to be used in campaign mode, allowing my demonic slayer..or zombie slayer...or classic slayer go through the main plot looking like a badass.

The story is intriguing for any doom fan, and a huge amount of fun. The combat is more systematic with some new 'rules' of fighting that are about one step further complex from doom 2016, namely that loot from glory kills is separated into glory kills (health), chainsaw (ammo), flame throwner (armor)... aside from that it's a normal blood bath. If you can't grasp this change in system, I suggest seeking professional help.

Enemies are interesting and classic with a few new entries, though I hate the Marauder with a passion... The glory kills are great and graphic and the weapons are all fun within context. some are useless depending on the enemy you are fighting but usually they have a modification that can make them work in a pinch.

The levels are all wonderful works of gruesome art, that only ascend in horror and beauty to the very end. They lack the "samey" feel of doom 2016, which is a great bonus.

The final boss is a lot of fun to fight.

On to the ****ty Bethesda mode. Multiplayer is terrible. Obviously someone stupid came up with the idea of "two+ verses one" because no one wants to play as the slayer (you are massively outnumbered and outgunned). Generally its' "everyone try to be the demon and not lose"

It's about as satisfying as eating sandpaper. It's why this game doesn't get a 10/10.

It doesn't make the game worse but it takes your attention away from all the brilliant things in there and slows down the pace. Introduction

Hello my name Andy and welcome back to another episode and today i will reviewing
DOOM Eternal on PC but can also play it on PS4 and Xbox one
I finished the campaign in 16 hours on the hurt me plenty and i had the graphics set high and was
getting 60 fps smooth game-play thought the game.

    Story

DOOM Eternal's story starts a few years after the events of 2016 one where you have your own base of
operations called the fortress of doom that you use to acquire upgrades and launch missions.

The lore of the game has been expanded . If you are interested in the story or
lore of the DOOM guy then you'll be pleasantly surprised.

, as you progress through the game you can find bits of lore that explain in detail what has happened in the past.

The story, told directly in the game through cut scenes and dialogue won't be that great but if you bother reading everything it becomes something nice and has the potential to expand even further.

It won't win any prizes for writing but I loved how bad ass the whole thing is about the DOOM guy.

    Game play

DOOM Eternal is basically the same as it's previous game a fast-paced first-person shooter where you slay thousands of demons with your arsenal.
The big difference is chainsaw mechanic from the previous game is now a mandatory tool to gather ammo
The game is on a different level on Nightmare difficulty,

Most enemies now have weaknesses which you can exploit using your weapons so
you'll be changing up weapons and mods to counter these demons
kinda like a constant fast-paced puzzle where you have to think while you shoot.

Weapons you find are similar to the previous game, as well as most of the dual mods for
each weapon and you'll be able to upgrade and master them if you want to.
Runes and suit upgrades also make a return in the game though a bit more simplified.

The disappointing parts of the game are multiplayer and boss fights. The boss fights are basic
and you just have to repeat the same thing over and over in
order to defeat each instead of having a unique fight like The Marauder which is an incredibly tough.

The Battle mode multiplayer is a one Vs Two mode where one fights as the DOOM
slayer and the other two as demons,
It's very basic , nothing truly bad about it but gets boring.

Overall the game-play feels different on higher difficulties which may not click with some players as the arena style basic shooting is mostly gone and instead they've improved it with tougher design.
And if you're the kind of person that likes to find secrets, you're in luck, DOOM Eternal has plenty of those.

    Audio
Mick Gordon is back and yet again he does an amazing job with DOOM Eternal soundtrack.
The choice in music now is a bit more Gothic which sounds fantastic.

The rest of the sound design, from voice acting and sound effects, they all great Graphics, performance and tech analysis The game was tested with an i5 8600k, GTX 1060 6GB, and 16GB RAM, The graphics style has change with Eternal. Doom 2016 had a very gritty, dark look to it but DOOM Eternal colour are a lot more depth to them and look more cartoon ish. The levels look amazing and varied and it's hard not to notice the colourful pickups. It's a different tone and not just graphically but the entire atmosphere feels like it came out of a Gothic bible. As the game went to a more platform game play so did the level design improve a bit. It's still linear mostly but it feels very open at time, well designed, It's not just corridor and arena over and over again. Sadly nothing is perfect and there bound to be issues especially at launch. One bug that annoyed me is I launch the game it would go black and couldn't see the game but i think it been fixed since the launch of the game. As for performance, the game runs flawless even at max settings. Conclusion DOOM Eternal Is the perfect sequel The game-play changes may put off some fans or players but I think the direction it went was fantastic . it is a Amazing game, and probably one the best Fsp games out there. Pro and cons Pros +Gun play is incredibly enjoyable +incredible soundtrack +Lore has been expanded a lot. Cons -Some technical bugs. -Boss fights are not that impressive Final score: 9/10

Doom Eternal is arguably the best entry in the series. It amps up the speed and difficulty of its 2016 predecessor while adding platforming sections. Ultimately, it's a rift on the Halo tale, but instead of the Covenant taking over planets, its demons. Due to the platforming and exploration aspects, Eternal feels more like an action-adventure than an old-school FPS. While there are plenty of intense run 'n gun encounters, the pace is slowed down by puzzle platforming. You must figure out how to get to a certain section before using your acquired abilities to do so. This element is bound to be quite divisive to Doom purists. Especially since they can become quite annoying. But like the previous game, you'll find all sorts of hidden upgrades. You'll also discover secret areas, timed challenges and horde challenges. Online multiplayer is no longer composed of Team Deathmatches, but is now a 2-vs-1 survival mode: two soldiers battle one demon for match wins. It's worth playing a few times, but the single player mode is the main thing. There's even Live Events that connect with the campaign. Overall, this is a worthy addition to the series. Even if it is too tough at times. I would rate this with a 9 out of 10. Expand

Doom took everything good from Doom (2016) and turned it up to 11.
This game somehow is, even more, faster than the previous one I don't know how that is even possible.
Doom Eternal takes place 8 months after the previous one. Doomguy "Slayer" and VEGA (AI who you did save in 2016 at the end) has now Doom fortress from Sentinels which is hovering over the Earth which is currently f*cked.

Slayer takes the emergency call from the earth and starts to go after Hell Priests that control the invasion. Because of hell energies power, Demons technology is going fast forward and the worlds own defenses didn't have a chance.

Doom is more "colorful" taking some examples from older games and turned them into a modern-day. I played with regular ps4 on Ultra-Violence difficulty which is Hard mode.
The compact is much more difficult. If you don't react fast your health will drop in a blink of an eye! Fighting is like a psychopath running on crack and can be overwhelming sometimes. While fighting, you need to learn your surroundings right away, think about how to deal with situations if you get overwhelmed and which enemy you should take out first and how. This is easily the BEST thing in Doom Eternal. Doom is a strategic shooter now. Killing demons while Mick plays his guitar on the background with the choir of doom! Oh god, the soundtrack is so good and the audio design! Hearing those demon sounds really helps you to have some knowledge about what kind of enemies you are facing or did that one son of b*tch die to your grenade around the corner.

There is lots of lore in this game and without giving any spoilers they answered a couple of big questions too but without reading those collectible logs, there could be couple points in the game that you don't understand what is happening.

There are platforming sections in this game but honestly not too much IMO. It is good phasing during the ripping and tearing. I think constant fighting could start to feel numb without any change of phasing.

This game is 100% fan service in a good way and that made me smile. I love it when the game acknowledges that it is a game. So if you are thinking that "that could not be possible" or "that's dumb" I have to ask you, why do you even play games if you can't see such an obvious thing that IT IS A GAME.

Could my ps4 handle this chaos? surprisingly good! I noticed a couple of frame drops when there was so much stuff on my screen that I would be amazed if the game wouldn't lose any frames.
I'm really happy how well optimized this port is!

I'm acknowledging some cripes other people pointed out because 0 and 4 out of 10 to this game seem to be angry **** at its best.

"The game has too many cutscenes and I don't understand what is happening."
Doom 2016 got a criticism about not having any story so they fixed that and you can still skip them if you want. But there are reviews here with questions like "why someone is that?" and "why everything is like this?" answer to those questions is in the logs and collectibles.
    "Doomguy has changed"
No, he hasn't. It was established that Slayer has a moral code.

    Any negatives personally?
-A couple of frame drops here and there.
-One huge bug (Needs to be fixed! if there are people who want to play this on the hardest difficulty)
-marketing, those couple trailers spoiled some good surprises, unfortunately.
-Couple balance issues in levels. Small demons kept spawning in and I honestly got frustrated because they didn't give me any time to look around to understand where I needed to go.
    - minor gripe but only 3 power up slots, I ended up only using 3 that suited my play style and I didn't bother to change them. In a full picture, those power-ups aren't that good overall IMO.
    -some buttons presses didn't register.
-Grab command window is nitpicky sometimes.

If there are any reasons why I wouldn't recommend this game to someone is that if you aren't a fan of "adrenaline shooters" this game isn't for you. Simple as that.

If Doom Eternal had come in 2019 it would be my game of the year. A couple of strong titles are coming up this year but this is easily one of the best! Rip and Tear!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Story: The story is kinda of generic but in depth for a Doom game. The lore is very rich and interesting, and you don’t need to read much of the codex unless you really care, there’s just a lot of inferring to go off of from some dialogue. The Doom slayer is just a mortal that was so angry that he somehow broke into the sentinels homeworld and won trails of combat to be indued with the powers of a god, and world his way into running an army against the demons in the unholy crusades to end in a truce where the demons get to feast on Earth so the Kahn Makyrs world survives, but doom guy isn’t having it as he is from earth. This is a very interesting backstory and setup to the events of this game after Dr. Hayden opens a gateway for them to go through, also the “Rip and Tear” dialog in the flashback scene was a nice reference. However, the game starting off with the Slayer just having a fortress, killing hell priests and having Vega was never explained, while the first game had little explanation to how you got there, that was fair as the game had no reason to explain it as there wasn’t much of a story, and as I was hoping this game would explain how you got to the tomb in the beginning of the first game, it doesn’t, which was a little disappointment. Dr. Hayden being reduced to an exposition dump was also a low point. How fires he know so mich? Why was he helping the humans? “How is he made of the same kind of parts or whatever that allows him to contact with the maykr-made fortress? Why didn’t he take over the fortress when Vega and the slayer were gone (which would’ve been cool)? Maybe I’m asking too many questions, but this game set up so much that it didn’t answer. All in all though, the story kept me playing and interested.

Environment: Absolutely astonishing. The Fortress of Doom alone is a staple of how beautiful this game is. The attention to detail and countless references and easter eggs is breathtaking and shows how much care the developers put in for fans and new players. Being able to walk along a mechs laser sword to parlor inside a demon titans stomach is just as badass as it should be.

Gameplay: This is the meaty stuff. While 2016 was simple and I very much enjoyed its simplicity, going into this game knowing about all the equipment I was skeptical about if it was all going to be overwhelming. While at the start it took some getting used to, as all things do, I quickly got the hang of it and felt like a literally god taking out the slayer gates at one go. The glory kill, flame blech, chainsaw, bloodpunch mechanices all worked in perfect harmony. The demons having specific weak points were also a welcome change, however by the end your amount of weapons and upgrades sorta make some of those meaningless. The only enemy I have a problem with, and some of you might as well, is marauders. Marauders themselves are not completely painful, I just end up wasting my chainsaw on fodder for ammo on them. The problem I have was the Taras Nabad secret encounter with one. It was so bad I had to cheese it since it’s almost impossible to kill one in 30 seconds. Other than that, the music combined with endless demon shredding with swords and big **** guns and quick movements is what I came here for.

All in all 9.5/10 and easily the best shooter I’ve ever played

The sequel to 2016 Doom is out and this is how you make a sequel. Everything and I do mean everything has been turned up to 11. The first person platform sections are so annoying I think they gave me an ulcer. Of course the internet had a field day about the Doom Marauder. Those guys are so challenging that you wonder why all the other enemy are kittens in comparison. I did however still love this game and enjoyed the story which added some wonderful context and served as a nice buffer between the bloodgasims you get while killing demons. Doom Eternal can be summed up in 3 words; guns, demons, and death. Despite the fact that it seems like nothing more than your average shooter, Doom Eternal is surprisingly plot heavy and (in my opinion) is the best fast paced shooter we've seen up to this point. Seriously, you can get lost in how fast paced it is. Glory kills, heavy metal, fast paced combat, and a unique strategy system all combine to make Doom Eternal a shooter masterpiece. Despite its positives, Doom Eternal does have its negatives. The 1st complaint (and it's slight) is that certain demons eh huh... the Marauder... make the game so hard that at times you will want to rage. But don't worry after many, many deaths you'll finally get the hang of it. Hopefully you haven't smashed your controller by that point however. The second complaint, and by far the most annoying, is how jumping and most puzzles work. You miss click one button and your character falls and the puzzles at times are so abstract and confusing that the only way I can solve them is by looking on youtube. Despite these flaws, overall Doom Eternal is exactly what you would expect from a Doom title and even more. Expand

One of the most underappreciated games of 2020. Doom Eternal kicked the door down for me and very few games managed to top it.

The level design is awesome, the soundtrack is banging, and the gameplay is damn near perfect. DOOM Eternal has restored my faith in the FPS genre as a whole. It's that good.

Alright I really feel the need to address the whole “Hate” thing going on with DOOM Eternal. Now these hate reviews aren’t that common, nor do they contain any constructive criticism from what I’ve seen. No, they’re balls of frustration conveyed with words from what seems like inexperienced DOOM players who want the copy of the same game from 2016. Hell, even some players complain about it’s Multiplayer mode, wanting it to be more emphasized on. I can’t tell you how many reviews I’ve seen straining their necks to point out that DOOM Eternal is “bad” because it doesn’t have a Deathmatch mode. What’s even better are reviews who complain about resource management, yes it does bring in some criticism that I can agree with but most of it is just spitfire about how the ammo capacity is too low and hard to maintain. Or even the small amounts of platforming in the game which isn’t hard AT ALL, it’s there for “pacing” it doesn’t feel like Mario and it doesn’t take up more than 15% of the game- Actually I’ll tell you, I found the most inaccurate and hilarious reviews to be from people who haven’t even gotten through half the game. 90mins for these people seems like the cut-off, like it’s enough time to give a final verdict on a game. Now yes, the game doesn’t have the best first impression. I will agree with that. Though for how many haters who give a review on this game with such little experience is just astounding.
Resource Management - Yes, Eternal is different in this aspect, it’s not hard at all to maintain though. The game has a thing called a Chainsaw, you use it on fodder demons to get tons of ammo. One fuel pip recharges after every 10-15 seconds. Unless you can’t aim, a 10sec cooldown for another flood of ammo shouldn’t be an issue. Fodder demons spawn infinitely until an area is finished off as well, so you really don’t run out of ammo unless you’re not using the Chainsaw properly. There are a few dry parts in some hallways that don’t have fodder and just heavies but you have two grenade types up to that point, a flamethrower mounted on your shoulder and something called a BloodPunch that knocks about 50 HP off of any Demon. So you’re not really defenseless.
Art Direction and Style - Ok I’ll 100% agree that the Revenant looks awful in Eternal. Though the other designs really don’t convey the word “Cartoonish” or “Ugly” to me. I mean it’s supposed to feel like an Adult Saturday morning Cartoon anyways. That’s what game director Hugo Martin wanted and most people are onboard. If you don’t like that idea, well that just shows you don’t do your homework before you buy a game. Yes, the grounded style for pickups in 2016 would have worked well in Eternal. Going from picking up a gun off of a mutilated corpse feels like it’s part of the environment rather than picking up a floating neon-colored one instead. So yes, the style is a little overboard but the graphics have improved immensely. First Impression - So where people only play a few hours and then make their review, I can see partly why, but the other half of me questions their logic on how it makes sense to review a game you’ve barely dipped your toe into. DOOM Eternal doesn’t have the best first impression, that is very true. The learning curve is way bigger than 2016’s. Though around level five, the game really starts to take off, really giving you the action and blood and gore you so desired. Oh and good news to anyone who hates that purple sludge, level five is the last level you’ll ever see it. So I encourage anyone sort of off-put by the game’s first impressions to keep playing.
I could keep countering every complaint thrown at this game, do you know why? No it’s not because I love the game (But yes, I do immensely enjoy it), no it’s because every complaint is some type of nitpick or feature or mechanic that doesn’t mix in well with their playstyle, and also because I’m running out of room. Y’know maybe just learn the game? Better yet, maybe give GOOD criticism because from what I’ve seen, any stars below 3, or a score below a 70, are just full of complaints. Please stop, stop giving bad reviews to a game if you yourself can’t even give reasonable/constructive criticism. It’s hard to perfect perfection, and to anyone who’s truly played Eternal, they’ll get that reference. DOOM Eternal improves upon the gameplay in every way along with the music, the level design, the graphics, the AI and the Movement. Yes, the storytelling is meh and the 3rd person cutscenes feel modernized in a bad way, the Revenant looks awful and it doesn’t have the same level of grit that 2016 had. Though compared to the pros, these complaints that do in fact come from “Users” of Eternal, seem like minor inconveniences and that’s exactly what they are, simple nitpicks. Buy the game, it’s the most DOOM that DOOM has ever been.

Doom Eternal definitely lived up to expectation with it's lengthier campaign and much improved multiplayer that makes this a sequel worth of it's predecessor.

Doom Eternal gameplay is phenomenal and there is nothing i can play right now that satisfies the same urges this game manages to scratch at the same level of quality . It is very unfortunate that some people dislike platforming and puzzles, but they are impeccably designed. Gameplay flow is streets ahead of DOOM'16 (which was the best shooter until now). This game takes you by the neck and throws you into the thick of it. For those who've missed DOOM'16 things might prove difficult to adjust to, but judging by what i've seen people mention even experienced players have trouble adjusting to the new game. It's a shame because they fixed problems i never thought existed in the original. Doom Eternal has the best pacing despite having extremely long levels that usually take me up to 2 hours to complete. Yet the exploration pillar is so tight i never missed a single collectible (except for the empyrean keys, that i usually rerun levels for). And yes i've been replaying levels many times because they are that good and practicing this game feels very rewarding. Things i can do now, that i never dreamed of doing before..and on the controller!

I can go on at length about everything they did right, but you've probably gathered that i love the game already. The only thing i have problems with are the arena ending cutscenes. I dislike cutscenes in general, expecially in FPS games that break out of First Person. Most of them in Doom Eternal are very short and to the point, some are even hilarious, and the longest are still in First Person so it's fine. But in some arenas there are cutscenes that show you that the door opens. This feels like a design mistake to me as i often experienced it in the middle of jumping or doing something meaningful and it's a bad feeling of losing control over your character.

Other than that it is the best FPS ever, probably the best game of the year and most importantly the most badass game of the decades. Please ignore the haters who think that this game deserves a 0 or a 1 - they are blinded by misguided hatred that they themselves irrationally fueled. Review bombers should burn in hell, because Doom Slayer is coming for them to Rip & Tear!
