The best thing that I can say about this expansion is that despite the lingering problems, it's well worth the asking price and you can trust me when I say that such statement does not come lightly. While it may have less story missions and strikes than the original game did, the quests and loot improvements make it last much longer. The new strikes are way better than the original ones and the main storyline not only makes sense but it's actually interesting this time around. It does not solve all of destiny's troubles. The grind and lack of new stuff to do begins to sink in after a while, though much later than the original game did when it launched. Expand

It's an ok expansion but not worth the $40 price for year 1 players definitely worth the $60 if your new to the game.

Strikes are ok but I keep getting the same 4 strikes over and over again.
Nightfall is useless, you don't get the experience boost anymore(no fire head either) and you have a low exotic drop rate. that's right you do nightfall and theres no guarantee you will get an exotic. I've done 6 nightfall's so far and have only gotten 1 exotic.
By the way the S.A.B.E.R. nightfall was OP just at the warsat event. other then that the rest of the nightfall was easy.
Difficulty was slightly increased and the taken, while others say they are just reskins Bungie never said they weren't reskins I don't know why you thought they would be different, but the taken are the same mobs with new more annoying abilities.
Not all year 1 exotics moved to year 2 and most of them weren't that good. year 2 gear is ok but they don't have that appeal or the must have that year 1 did.
the 3rd sub classes are ok. the titan's sunbreaker is like a long range striker. warlock's stormcaller is ok but one placed shotgun blast and you go down since it's within range and hunter's nightstalker is just support and I believe its the first support type subclass in the game.

The original year 1 Destiny was good. Hitting level 20 was like hitting a brick wall with a grind fest to get the right gear and level up. Enter the Taken King ... improved almost every aspect of the game. Bursting with content, a major improvement on story and cutscenes and the grind is still there but in a much more tolerable entertaining package.

A corporate-engineered Skinner Box designed to maximize profits. Engagement and play time are artificially padded by tricks to serve as bragging points in quarterly reports. You costumers get what you deserve. You made this game a success, and fed the arrogance of its developers. Enjoy.

I don't want you to be an RPG, I buy RPG's for that so take the MMO garbage, throw it out, and let me shoot my guns. Also, the new supers for Titans and Warlocks lend themselves to you not even having to be a skilled player, just rock up in a room and start your 8 kill streak, while the hunter super is definitely a challenge that takes work and skill to acquire. Bungie, you suck. I'm done. Expand

The Taken adds a whole new mechanic to the story. Bounties have become more organized and easy to access and turn in. The vault system has had a much needed update. As a primary PVP player the new weapon balances is great. People are venturing out and using auto rifles for once. The new maps are very balanced and fun to play and the new game modes are a much needed change. On the negative side, the loot system still seems unfinished. Legendaries are about as rare as exotics were in year one. The new Supers are extremely unbalanced. Sunbreaker is far more powerful than the other two. Voidwalker is very underwhelming for PVP, but useful for PVE players. Swords in PVP are way overpowered!!!

Overall, The Taken King is an amazing update to Destiny. However, its not perfect. There is still a lot of things that need to be fixed. I have a feeling that Bungie will be rolling out small patches over the course of The Taken King to balance everything out.

The new raid is worse than VOG and TDB combined, and twice as long. Rather than requiring skill, its just a huge test of patience.

Trials of Osiris is currently gone, and still no private match support or in game ranking. Rosters are still a mess, not organized by alphabet, and clan roster is still nonexistant.

As I say before raising a paywall to force year one players to buy this new mediocre ''expansion'' who is definitely not worth $40 is very close to what a scamer will do to you , actuallly other AAA developers make an effort in to creating a quality product and after that those games sell a lot just by themselves but here seems that activision convince bungie that the ''smart'' thing to do was to invest in PR disgised as ''reviews'' and ''journalism'' besides social studies on how to sustain the skeleton of a game whit indused adictive behavior so they can selll the meat later as ''expancions'' or dlc's.

Ppl say now that destiny after ttk has improve a lot, the story make sense now and is a right step in the right direction as many well remunerated critics as say. Well the way i see this is that is like this :

If i grab a story like SW for example, and I cut out of Obi Wan, Han Solo and Dart Vader, what we have left will be the story of a clules kid runing errands arround the stars and will make little to no sense at all, but if later I add these chunks and sundenly everyting start making sense I honestly belive you will tell me something like
-hey why you didn't tell me that before?

    Instead of

    - oh my,this is a right step in the right direction yay !

To make this long story short if you are new to destiny this is the right time to jump in but beware of how this scumbags will treat you . They sold me this game a year ago and make me pay twice for it .
If you are year one player then wait a little for a price drop becouse is not worth $40 bucks VoG was way better than this new jumping rabbit raid beside that just new excuses for more mindless grinding but hey at least those factions make sense now

I'm certain.

The Taken King offers very little in the lines of "new". It's more like "repetitive overused recycling" of other maps and areas, with one new area that contains few missions. The story is so boring that I found myself falling asleep after the first hour, got to level 40 in a matter of days, then found myself at the same eternal grind fest to get better armor. There is still no raid matchmaking, horrible game balancing, a pvp that supposedly balances classes and weapons (yeah right, it really doesn't and favors those who put in more time and cash to get over the paywalls). Nothing that was wrong with this game before was fixed.

You can blame Activision for this atrocity, but I blame Bungie through and through. I will never buy another Bungie game in my life after this. Let's stop calling this game a disappointment and start calling it what it really is, an infectious cancer blighted by video game designers' greed and power, focused on abuse of a fanbase that took a decade to cultivate. Let us all pray to whatever higher power that video game companies don't all try to "copycat" using the business model that Bungie did with this game. I fear that would be the end of my video gaming days. Just my ¢.02

Bland mid sized environments devoid of interesting diversions or life but thank to the countless trade offs they decided to make you will sometimes be falling asleep while trudging though one of the two mission types they repeat over and over and see another player character running around doing the same boring **** you are.

Those same trade offs in the name of making it more ‘social’ also mean rather then a quick to use menu you have to spend ages loading into and running around a tiny hub area, but as you run from one characters with an exclamation mark to another you’ll see other players doing the same boring ****.

People are excusing how **** Destiny is by calling out how you can play the whole game with other people, most of the content is limited to 3 people teams with the more specialised modes increasing the number. It might seem impressive until someone reminds you of the fact that in 2007 Bungie’s Halo 3 let you play the entire game with 4 players. With great AI, missions, story and far better vehicle and weapon sandboxes… and photo mode, replays and countless other things that Destiny doesn’t.

If the order of release of these were switched it would make much more sense.

By level 15 I gave up, slogging though the game up until that point was no fun what so ever. If I was professional reviewer I would have finished the game and even restarted it as a different ‘class’, what I’m saying is, you would have to pay me to play this game. For free I’ll get as far as level 15 and stop.

I gave up on the SP around level 10, those last 5 were picked up via multiplayer, I ground though this foul mess hoping to hit the right map, the right game type, the right anything to get it anywhere near close to fun.

The closest Destiny comes to any Halo is in this mode, the maps are could fit into Reach as they feel built for too many things at once and none of them stick in the mind.

Finally getting to play Destiny as a whole does answer a question, why was Marty O’Donnell fired.

Turns out when he was first shown the game he told the team how damn terrible the game is and they were unable to handle it.

Destiny is the most disappointing game in 2014, having large enough plot gaps for an army of Spartans to fall in, the developers made a website to explain the story because they didn't have time to explain. In The Taken King they finally had time to explain why they didn't have time to explain.

The cut-scenes are beautiful, and they give us a glimpse of what the studio is capable of in terms of story telling. Is the story good? No. The story is mediocre at best. But with the low expectations caused by year 1, The Taken King's plot is MUCH easier to follow. And now, Guardians have a clear purpose, and cause, as they tread around the galaxy. And by galaxy, I mean all the planets you already have discovered, plus a ship on Saturn's ring. The new quest system is cool at first. But after an hour or two into them, you realize that they are nothing but tedious tasks. The biggest selling point being the new raid, Kings Fall, is a lot of fun to play with your friends. But, the boss mechanics are very easy, and I find myself not feeling challenged, but just mad at my friends for not being about to communicate properly. If you did not play year one, I would say pick this up. You will have a good amount of content to go through and everything will be very new to you. If you played through year one, it's really a toss up whether or not you will like this one. I'm coming up on week 2, and I'm already starting to feel like I'm just about to run out of content. With all that being said.... This xpac shows that Bungie is very capable at listening to their community and responding with the appropriate content. And that gives me a little more faith, and also leads me to believe that "Destiny 2" might just be the game we were all hoping for with the Vanilla release. Expand

However, I bought the expansion expecting a good time and I'm having a good time with the game. It's fun and has plenty of content despite the short storyline. The quest that come after are creative and challenging. It's worth the money. However, as a year one player I got a terrible deal and Bungie has taken no interest in truly addressing the issue. A cheap shader that looks like everything else and an emblem does not cut it. New players will not experience the ups and downs I have. New players may experience a more dolid gameplay.

Most of the criticism of this game is well founded, the story is still a bit weak compared to the cinematic experiences in most AAA games, the cost of the DLC on it's own is a farce (the legendary edition is good value though), and the repetition of levels to get high end gear is a bit OTT.

The story is a lot more coherent now and has humor too. Really enjoyed playing this. It really seems to be a lot more self-aware than any of the previous DLCs.

Nathan Fillion helped Bungie knock this one out of the park!

Having put in 500 hours pre-ttk, I downloaded the overpriced (expansion). You know what you will see? Everything you worked hard to get is useless. Reforging weapons....gone. Weapon perks removed. The list goes on and on. I have never played such a repetitive, unrewarding, OVERRATED mess as this. I wouldn't even call it a game.

Work to get rewards is the theme here - no fun allowed. The content is much smaller than it appears at first, and the vast majority of the so-called quests involve repetition of old content. Bungie seems to have a philosophy based on their players not being "good enough" or deserving of rewards. It's no surprise that many players dropped off and joined more rewarding and fun games. Instead of adding new areas to explore or monsters to try your combat skills on, the additional content has thus far consisted of a pointless Halloween grind, a refer-a-friend scheme, and raid challenge modes that micromanage your gameplay in exchange for character upgrades. As for the player community, it is shrinking and becoming insular. Like a big clique, this game is hardly inviting to most players. Exclusion and elitism has been a strong theme in Harold Ryan's and Luke Smith's designs. Other than having great basic gameplay with easy and smooth aiming, agile jumping, and elegant special abilities, this game offers nothing but a laundry list of chores for players if they want to progress. These chores are so menial that Taken King will have you craving the depth and interaction of a simple fetch & return quest in games like Fallout, ESO, and Final Fantasy. The player vs player is run amok with lag switching and/or terrible lag and net code. Matches take a long time to find and player count seems thinner than Modern Warfare 2. Once again, there is also no group finding tools or matchmaking for most of the important activities in the game. This is because quite simply, Luke Smith and the most hardcore fans of the game believe we aren't good enough to actually succeed at the content and that we would potentially ruin their play experience. That adds an absurd layer of extra work that players must do just to even try content. There's many cool weapons to acquire in the game, and it's great to get weekly orders from the gunsmith (although the ranking method is even more inane than bounties with the repetitive test weapon chores) but players will find very little storage space or opportunity to substantially upgrade the attack values of these weapons. Bungie seems to only be in touch with a dwindling and insular community of twitch streamers and their followers. Basically, this game is anything but fun, and Bungie's attitude and development team needs to go for any hopes of improvement. Expand

While we were forced to leave behind our old gear, we were able to get new gear rather easy. Once you finish with the main story there is plenty of quests to do so you don't burn out on content. After the main story you get access to the quests for the Exotics "The Chaperone" and "Boolean Gemini". There are now weekly Crucible bounties for another chance at a new Exotic piece of gear. The loot system is improved, an example of this is I got an FWC Shader after 30+ levels of motes and other trash and a Ship in the package after that. The Cryptarchs now sell Legendary Engrams, with even more chances at Exotic Loot. The new leveling system is based off of XP and Loot. You get to Level 40 through XP and equip better gear to get more light, however, light does not affect your level, but it does affect your strength in-game. Level 41 enemies aren't as big of a problem with this new system as, say, a level 32 doing Crota's End Hard mode. Taken King is an amazing expansion to an already insanely fun and addicting game. Lets start with the bad. Bungie was always good about giving us a great core game with great DLC. During our Halo years most of us never felt short changed. We felt that we got what we paid for. We got a great campaign (up front) and the blueprint for Multiplayer that kept us coming back for thousands of hours with add ons that felt like we were getting some actual bonus material, not material that was already there getting polished and unlocked for a price. We all know we're getting screwed with Destiny. Whether it be by Bungie and/or Activision we will never know. We can all speculate and assume. The sad truth is, we know the game was far from complete with these add-ons hiding right there in plain sight waiting to be payed to be played. Yet, we keep coming back for more and complaining. We are gluttons for punishment and we do it to ourselves. We keep paying and they'll keep charging.

The good part is, it actually feels like DLC (that should have been there all along). They included things that should have been in the base game. Cut scenes are great. There is more interaction with the people in the tower. There is some humor thrown in there. Best of all, you cant complete all of the DLC in a few short hours like in previous "add-ons". There is actually some rhyme and reason to everything and the game was well thought out. Enemies are a great addition. The new strikes are actually challenging. The leveling system is overall better. I wish this is what the whole game would've been. Had it been, I think that this game would have been the best game of 2014 and not gotten so many complaints.

Over all I think the price is a bit ludicrous but for someone who wants a reason to like Destiny, it's worth it. It's worth to see what the bar should have been set at. Sadly, there is no going back and hopefully Bung-Vision can get there act together and see what they need to do if they want to compete with these next gen big titles like Halo and Battleborn for online multiplayer. If they don't keep going forward I feel their "destiny" is to fade into the back... We will see.

I have read through a lot of this reviews and also opinions of my friends list on my console and quite frankly it annoys me to see so many people give a poor reflection of the game without actually experiencing all it has to offer.

YES you level up to lvl40 fast, YES the main story line is still short...

HOWEVER all these poor reviews come from people that do the main story get to lvl40 then stop. They then fail to see that there is actually 5 times the amount of side quests that provide some very challenging experiences to gain extra xp and rewards. There are an extra 3 strikes to TTK also to further expand.

I'm your usual weekly reset player who does all the weekly heroic, Nightfall, Raids, PoE etc all in the first day then the rest of the week NOTHING. However that is NOT the case with the TTK.

    LIGHT LEVEL...

This is what people fail to see because they are used to the old level system. Just because you've hit EXPERIENCE level 40 doesn't mean you are by any means levelled up. By level 40 you are usually around lvl200 light, now to access the Nightfall you are recommended to be level 280 light. Now to put that into perspective, it took me and a fireteam 2 solid days of playing all day to reach 280 light.

But it doesn't stop there as that's just the access required to attempt the nightfall... every time you finish a quest a new one starts but not only that there are equal amounts of quests in the crucible too. X amount of kills with x ability/weapon. X amount of win in X crucible modes... The whole thing has been designed to STOP repetitive gameplay. Stop the usage of the same weapons over and over. The new infuse system makes you pay attention to EVERY weapon. Blues have higher attack than a lot of legendaries because legenadaries have better perks. Find the Leg you want then infuse your blue to make the favoured perks more powerful.

It really ANGERS me to see so many poor reviews from people that haven't even given the game the chance to see ALL it now offers. TTK has 5 times the content that VANILLA destiny had to offer.

Seriously guys think about it not as an expansion, yes its £40 but that's cheaper than the original vanilla destin and has 5 times the content. This IS destiny 2.0 its its own standalone game.

I challenged my doubters on my friends list to play beyond the main story and experience the extra gameplay on offer and now their opinions have changed.

Seriously me and my dedicated players have had so much more fun with TTK than we every have on destiny...

Its taken up that much time to play TTK that weve not had a single chance to even concider our usual raids and PoE for xp gains.

SERIOUSLY this has restored all my faith in Bungie and Destiny. For £40 you are seriously getting so much more than JUST an expansion. Don't listen to all the haters. Haters gonna hate. If you enjoyed vanilla destiny up until that "Wall" of nothing left to do then trust me you are going to LOVE TTK.

STOP focussing on the greed of activision as I honestly feel for the content we are getting this time TTK is worth EVERY penny. The HoW yes that was over priced and ridiculous.

    TTK is truly something special...

Suffice it to say that Bungie finally got their act together and the result is phenominal. The Taken King honestly elevates Destiny to where we might have expected it to be a year ago. Whatever your opinion of the previous year, the game is now a classic Bungie game, with strong characters, killer cutscenes, fantastic worlds to explore (including the real mysteries of the Dreadnaught), and some absolutely killer multiplayer.

The cost to game ratio here is phenomenal. Even considering that I bought both the Legendary Edition of the base game and the Collector's of Taken King ($240 Australian all up!), I've gotten over 500 hours of play time across all my characters. That's 50c per hour. About $4.50 per week.

I always knew this had potential to be massive, and its great to see Destiny is shaping up and going in the right direction.

The new strikes and campaign are much more engaging and enjoyable. It feels as if there is actually purpose in doing things in the game, mostly due to the rewards.
Rewards are so much more satisfying now.
What you earn reflects more on your light level and the engrams you earn are now fair.

    - Legendary engrams are legendary items or exotics. Nothing less

I did feel misled that the preorder indicated Vanguard and Skolas weapons were only available for purchase with Glimmer at the Vanguard armory and were useless since the first weapons you get free are better. Also, my son beat the Taken King in less than 6 hours using his original guardian. (Planning to use a new L25 Hunter myself to up the challnge.). The quality of this content is much better as there are actual cutscenes to build the story and new elements like platforming (albeit nothing like a Tomb Raider). There is of course more content in PvP Modes, Strikes, Raids, etc. and new weapons, although I do not understand why all of the existing weapons were nuked to such weak levels, other than to make players grind more. For $40 this is a fun add-on, should have been $20. Expand

    ***WHY I'M GIVING TTK 10/10***

Bungie listened to year one players and created an expansion that absolutely addresses many of the concerns we had about vanilla destiny. The original campaign (if you can call it that) is more coherent and tolerable. It took me a while to get used to the new ghost voice, but it's actually pretty good. And the ghost is way more useful than before. You can now scan items in game and your ghost will give you a backstory or information on that item.

The TTK campaign is fantastic. It's what we wanted from the beginning, and it's what we got. Much of the credit goes to a 10/10 performance by Nathon Fillion (Firefly). He did a stellar job voicing Cayde-6 and adds a much needed quirky, humorous tone to the campaign (the new ghost does this as well). I got about 6 hours of gameplay from the new campaign.

Aside from the added campaign, I know I'll get hundreds of hours from the new strikes, raid, Court of Oryx, Rift, Mayhem, etc. The new strikes are much more dynamic. Court of Oryx is fun and challenging. I haven't played the raid yet, but when I do, I will update this review. They added 8 new maps in PvP that are fantastic. Rift and Mayhem are loads of fun!

TTK additionally improves on vanilla destiny by adding quests, improving the currency system, expanding/organizing the vaults, and more. They also balanced the weapons and subclasses, so I'm no longer getting blink-shotgunned by everyone and their mother. Grenades are better balanced. The Defender bubble no longer gets popped by everything. It's pretty awesome. All welcome changes in my book.

    ***ADDRESSING COMMON COMPLAINTS***

For those complaining about the pricing "scheme", you should really take a look at the content you're getting compared to other games. Take COD for example. You have to pay (at least) $60 per year, and you don't get to keep your characters! You have to pay extra for all the new maps and whatever other DLCs they offer, which means you can easily spend $200 in two years (even the day one destiny players have only paid around $140 so far, the price you pay for being an early adopter). The legendary edition of The Taken King offers vanilla destiny (selling for about $20 now) and 3 DLCs (collectively selling for about $75 now) for only $60. Two years worth of content. The Taken King expansion itself comes with 3 new subclasses, 8 new maps (some games charge a lot for new maps...), tons of new gear and weapons, a new raid, 3 new strikes, and 6 hours (for me) of new campaign that is actually rather good.

A lot of people seem to be mad because they can't do the weekly events in vanilla destiny anymore. I don't see a problem with that. That's end game content, and there's now a new end. When you bought vanilla destiny, you bought the missions, strikes, PvP, all that good stuff. The weekly events are features. You still have your content. Actually, you're better off than day 1. They improved the vaults, made the campaign more tolerable, added the ability to collect ghosts, added quests, and on and on.

As for those complaining about how Bungie does not care about their year one players, this is absolutely not true! The Taken King expansion addresses many, many issues that year 1 players complained about vanilla destiny. TTK is what it is because of year one players. On top of that, year one players received a lot of neat in game items (I got a legendary ghost, sparrow, ship, and gear AND an exotic weapon that I didn't have, among other things). For those that are mad about having to hunt for new gear and weapons, uhhh....isn't that the fun of the game? Do you really want to use Thorn and Gjallarhorn for 2 years? There is a new enemy, and you're gonna need new weapons and gear to get stronger and beat him. Pretty simple.

With 3 new sub-classes to play through, the introduction of humor (yes that's right humor) between the council members and quests that are actually engaging and entertaining draw you into the game and want to keep playing.

Bungie, the makers behind Destiny, have already released statements stating that they are working to improve players rewards during world interactions. There is even talks of quests coming out with exotic rewards! These are all great things to keep the average player engaged for hours on end.

The real question still remains, after completing the new line of quests and playing through the strike playlist a few hundred times, is there enough content to justify the hefty price tag associated with this expansion? I think the only answer that makes since at this stage in the game is, it depends.

What other content is Bungie going to introduce under the umbrella of this expansion free of cost? Will that content include extending the story line? Or simply new quests for new gear etc? Only time can tell.

What I can say for sure, is that after getting game and experiencing what it has to offer, I am pleased with the new direction Destiny has decided to take. I just hope that the developers provide much more content free of charge under this release package before introducing more paid DLC!

    On a side note....

Many reviews have expressed there extreme hate for Bungie's Destiny fueled by the Activation greed train. I feel the users and there frustration, you pay $60 for the base game only to get a story lacking shooter with a few strikes, one raid and limited amount of content only to find out that you need to spend another $35 to get the story that should have came with game from the get go.

Alright, ill admit, when I received the bill for the expansion after paying so much for the content I was a little annoyed... but then I looked at Call of Duty! $70 for the game and at least 5 map packs (thats only maps folks) for $15 a release.... $145 right there. Or World of Warcraft which releases an expansion for $50 and expects to be paid $15 a month, every month to play that expansion.

Then I look at games like Guild Wars 2, which charges you $50 for the game when it releases and nothing ever again... but hey guess what? They have micro transactions to earn income along the way. And lets be honest, tons of people pay for those micro transactions because they are invested in the game.

The point here being, it is a lot of money to fork over but that is the gaming industry. If you want to play it you have to pay for it. Developing the stuff is not free and takes time and money. The only thing we as gammers and the community of the games can ask for is some love and respect in the quality and quantity of content released.

So there you have it folks, the recent expansion to Destiny, The Taken King is without a doubt a great addition to the series that will provide many hours of game play through various avenues presented throughout the game.

The Taken King is brilliant update to the game and I highly recommend anyone thinking of playing, they should do it. Ignore the negative comments.. this game has been changed for the better.
I now care about the characters in game, Cayde-6 is funny and Eris Morn a nut case. The cut scenes remind me of Bungies Halo days. The new story telling is a big step in the right direction and I am looking forward to the next installment.

This expansion has in my honest opinion boosted Destiny to a whole new level. The story kept me on the edge of my seat wanting more, the ghost plays a more active role, Cayde-6 added a much needed source of comedy, and I couldn't stop playing! That last part is a big one for me. I've started playing several games over the past year, but none of them pulled me in like TTK has. I work a full time job and I've already put over 20 hours into the game since launch.

Lot's of people have issues with the fact that all your old guns and stuff are useless now. Well, I have been an MMO gamer for years and this is nothing new to me, so, it doesnt bother me in the slightest. I love the fact that we are getting more powerful weapons and have more to work towards again, but that type of play style isn't for everyone.

The Dreadnaught!!! Easily Destiny's most mysterious, action filled, fun zone yet. Full of puzzles and activities that will keep you running around it for hours, and it presents challenges to survive just running through it. The Cabal and the Hive and Taken are gunning it out all over the place, so there are moments when there are just a TON of guys in this area you just ran into and they all decide to attack the guardian and his/her ghost! It's fun!

The MAIN story line only takes around 5 to 6 hours (with some exploration thrown in it took me a little over 5). It could take less if you just rushed through it without stopping to actually enjoy the story. However, having said that.. I LOVED the story line, and ITS NOT OVER FOLKS! As soon as I finished the "main" story line other quests opened up...some of these quests I'm still working on completing. That's much more than 5 hours of content, and the Raid (which is still a part of the story) has not opened up yet. Like I said I've put over 20 hours into the game already and I've yet to run out of new stuff to do. Yea some of it can be quite grindy, but show me a game with MMO tendencies that's not grindy.

SWORDS!!! Finally got my sword last night and I'm very excited they put these into the game! Some people are complaining about the way the guns and stuff look, but I personally loved the design of things so far in this expansion. The guns look and feel great, the taken look great and their fighting mechanics add a whole new level of challenge, the Dreadnaught looks great, the new subclasses are alot of fun! Overall this expansion was well designed.

I understand being disappointed about losing your old weapons and maybe even that the "main" story line didnt take longer, but this expansion does not deserve 0/10 score...not even kinda close. Great expansion! Definitely worth the $40 I paid for it.

Side Note: I've read several of the low rated scores and it sounds like some of these people havent even played the expansion...they just came in here to complain about how big bad Bungie mistreated them and is out to get their wallets...Destiny has made leaps and bounds of improvement with this expansion and Bungie is actually listening to the players and making changes that have been requested.

I paid for destiny including season pass costing me around 120 bucks so how am I locked out from something I paid for if I don't want to buy the new expansion Taken king? Isn't that illegal I paid for the game to play never was I told that I would have to buy every new expansion or DLC if I wanted to continue to play a game I paid for how are they even allowed to do this? There must be some consumer policy and rights being broken here and I hope activision gets theirs as this is robbery and fraud no doubt about it. They are basically forcing players to have to buy this DLC or expansion in Order to keep playing a game that they already more then paid for enough this is crazy. I should be able to play all of the original content along with other players who don't buy the Taken King expansion that's how it's always been no matter normal game or MMO which destiny isn't by the way as activision has stated many times in interviews that Destiny is not an MMO it just borrows some designs and elements from MMOs but that doesn't make one and either way even if it was even in MMOs this doesn't happen. It's simple you don't buy new expansion then you can only play what you have payed for but with destiny they literally lock u out of content you already paid for in turn ripping the consumer off. Only an idiot would support this kind of tactic and this game if you like getting ripped off then by all means donate to Activision they will gladly take it but if you smarter then most sheep then don't by taken King as it's overpriced to start anyways and while you finally get a lot of what should have already been included in destiny you are basically paying twice and for what's really a 20 dollar expansion at most as while it adds a much needed actual story with cutscenes to game it's only a few hours worth and surely not the amount you should get with a full game which is what they charging you for btw nevermind how much is actually recycled from original game that you are your paying for at a premium price that a full game would cost. Activision is setting a bad precedent for gaming and it's models with these shady business tactics so don't be a fool by supporting them.

The new mechanics and levelling system provide complete overhauls to the gameplay experience which vastly increase the pleasure gained from continuous play. Items such as the three of coins now allow players to work to tip the odds in their favour for gaining the new exotic gear available and the adaptive loot system provides a very interesting parallel to the previous stagnant gear type attack and defence values. Being able to go from receiving 200 light legendaries at the start of play and working yourself up to 290+ rare loot give a greater sense of progression than the previous grind for a legendary for each slot/marks to buy gear and have all that gear be as good as it can be.

The new enemy race, the taken, provide a refreshing new opposing force and marks the largest collection of new unit types to be added since launch. The vastly varied and interesting mechanics present for each of these unit types provide a new playing/learning experience similar to the first run through of the previous raids upon your first story quest line experience.

Story. The "main" story line is something a lot of people are complaining about in their overly negative reviews. Admittedly people who rush through the starting story quest line will finish it in a matter of hours however those who take the time to experience the game will receive much greater enjoyment. (for example my 3 man fire team spent 8 hours on our first run through (and no we didn't wipe much except for when experiencing new mechanics i.e. First Oryx fight)). The first oryx fight rounds off the story nicely with a challenging (if set to hard when still ~230-240 light) skirmish with numerous interesting mechanics that players much learn to understand and combat before being able to progress. Now, as I (and many others) have said, this quest line is rather short (~6 hours). However this is just one of the numerous new storyline quest lines that, unlike others have stated, nicely lead the players into the basic lore behind each of the new strikes. Overall I played around 40 hours of story before entering the raid on the raid release without repeating anything other than daily challenges and all on one character. I have currently played around 130 hours of the taken king and found it well worth my money as only one of my three (34 with bounty prep for day one) characters has completed all the new story quest lines. This bring my game playtime to just under 2000 hours.... No game but halo and space engineers has been as enjoyable or re-playable for me as this game.

Definitely the most or best content so far. But charging 39.99 to expansion pass holders is ridiculous. They've milked this cow dry. It's very frustrating the way they market the DLC. They want us to purchase the game over again so we get a few guns etc. The pricing is ridiculous, we need to stop getting sucked into this black hole. Finally a Destiny that somehow has ton of things to do. I didn't cheese out with stacking 10 bounties of 5k xp ready to turn in, so that the main ques-tline (which isn't all the quests, gracefully) took me from 34 to 39, 2 nights of game-play (6~7 hours maybe, with slow progression on new scenarios to check them out). I've still have ~18 quests to finish and new gears to get to reach the end game content once again (I'm completely blue equipped, lol). Yes, the level cap is 40, but the struggle, once again, is the light level, but now with a renewed formula.
"Legacy" items are now pretty much useless. Time to raid them all again. At least, there's some good reason to keep cutting through the raids once more.
Keep in mind, Destiny is, since the release, a grindsh FPS with group-oriented end game content. That didn't change at all.

First and foremost this new expansion is everything the good reviews say it is. Oh Destiny...where to begin...

Being a Year 1 player who has put easily over 100 hours into this game, I can safely say that I have mixed feelings on this expansion due to the treatment of all Year 1 content. I booted up the game for the first time yesterday after the lengthy ver. 2.0 update and was treated to two amazing gifts during the introductory Veteran's Walk mission for Year 1 players: the only two exotic weapons (Monte Carlo and Thorn) that I hadn't grabbed in my first year of playing. Much to my dismay, however, I then noticed that the attack values for these weapons was equal to (or lower than) blue and green drops specific to The Taken King. I spent so much time playing this game and forgoing playing other great games in my collection just to amass this amazing arsenal of weapons and now they're all basically worthless? Consider me bummed.

The content itself in Taken King is great, though I wish there was more of it. The missions are great, the new enemy types and subclasses are great additions, and I can't say enough about how much I love the new Quest Tracking system. The downside is that after just two hours of dedicated play I was able to go from level 34 to level 36, leading me to believe it won't be long until I hit the new level cap and again run out of a reason to keep playing the game beyond checking in once a week for the weekly Heroic and Nightfall strikes.

I enjoy PvP and this game has a LOT to offer someone who loves competitive shooters. The actual gunplay is as tight as what you would expect from the developers of Halo, and the weapons all feel and sound great (something which Bungie has always done well in spades). There's new maps and the weapon classes have all been either buffed or nerfed in significant ways for the 2.0 update. Love it or hate it, the PvP in Destiny at least manages to stay fresh through constant monitoring and updating by the team at Bungie.

I'm not going to delve too deeply into the Bungie or Activision shaming here, for their scrapping of the story or constant barrage of $20-$40 updates for content that should have (for all intents and purposes) shipped with the main game back in September of 2014. What I will say is this: Underneath all the controversy and trolling surrounding this game is a great shooter that deserves to be played. If you are new to Destiny and are considering making the plunge, you get the best deal of anyone by jumping into the game in Year 2. Those who haven't invested a significant amount of time in the Year 1 gameplay won't be disappointed with all of their amassed gear being nerfed, and you'll get a more cohesive storyline and better leveling up system to play around with.

I really am not a Destiny fan boy, I haven't played it for nearly a year and decided to come back for the Taken King and I don't regret it at all. There is almost enough content their to warrant the £40 DLC but for new players, this is worth every penny.

The new areas, quests, strikes, raid and other updates make me feel like this game has finally had some personality injected into it.

the taken king is the first good dlc that destiny has had the story is actually interesting and very dark with characters that have some depth rather than no depth at all like in the previous dlc's to bad the missions are a bit cookie cutter but fun none the less.

For the first time, Destiny feels like it’s complete. It’s not perfect, far from it in fact, and I still can’t entirely disagree when they speak of the package itself as bad. But I’ve also been unable to put it down for the past month I’ve played it.
