Technically I'm covering year 1 & 2 here but this game is so good I had to go cold turkey on it after 12 months as it was literally taking over my life. Possibly in my top 5 games of all time considering the addictiveness.
The gunplay is done so well and the allure of better/unique weapons makes the grind feel worth it, especially for raids, where this game took it to a new level for me.

Honestly I think the people who rubbish this game just haven't gotten to the point where they're ready to raid and/or don't have mates that play it. But each to their own

An absolutely fantastic, transformative DLC. The only negatives would be the poorly redesigned infusion system and the forced participation in PVP for the Ace of Spades Exotic.

The game is a solid 9/10, but I'm giving it a 10/10 to help alleviate the review bombing by haters who haven't even played it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Nice, finally the best of D1 + D2 in one game. For all us who haven been playing since D1 i feel this is an excelent comeback.

Lot's of nostalgia felt! Feels like Taken King for D1, hopefully next time it won't be like that and keep all the good things since the beggining.

The dreaming city was a great addition, two sandboxes in one DLC, and the bows, those are great, me new primary de facto.

Gambit is amazing, finally some hybrid between PVE and PVP, and it's so fun.

    Amazing.

Destiny always had great gun play, but at times it lacked into story, or times it lacked in things to do.

Forsaken really feels like a complete package. Graphics, Story, Content all great. It is the 1st time in Destiny where there is so much to do I am having trouble deciding what to do next.

I wasn't happy about vanilla version of the game neither Osiris or Warmind DLC. In fact i was about to put the cross on this franchise, but Forsaken came out and everything has changed since than.
Story, Weapons, Raid, Daily and Weekly activities, Season rewards all in place. I hope they will keep up good work

D2 vanilla was a violation, the lack of random rolls left me with no Grasp of Malok type grail to seek...it was a shard collecting game with nothing even to spend the shards on. It was... shardy. I came back a few weeks ago, hoping for my love of D1 that Forsaken could right the wrongs I felt had been done to me by D2. Forsaken has made me feel the way Destiny 1 did and it has been a long time coming. Bungie did me dirty and I shouted it from the rooftops and I do not retract those fair criticisms but Forsaken is a redemption to me. They should have named it Homecoming. I feel like a badass guardian again. Expand

after a year of being a huge piece of **** bungie got their act together and released this destiny 2 forsaken. so it all starts out with the first mission last call now going into it everyone new cayde was going to die and so did bungie so they made the last mission with him one of the best most fun most memorable missions in all of destiny and for me all of gaming. we where running through the prison of elders wiping out minions of the darkness left right and centre with enough scripted moments to make the environment feel alive. on top of that this mission gives us one of the best tracks of one of the best destiny soundtracks gunslinger it makes this mission what it is but on top of all of that we got last stand of the gunslinger which for most of its duration looks like it was filmed on a camera as well as being one the best action scenes and cut scenes in all of destiny. and the fatal moment we find cayde in his final moments and we comfort him as he reassures us that its not our fault his final words are truly amazing "tell zavala and ikora the vanguard was the best bet... i ever lost" it was at this moment i knew my faith and money in bungie had been well worth it and that with destiny 2 forsaken i would be in for a treat. following this we head to the tangled shore which has a cool new character/vendor i the spider as well as some amazing tunes along with the 6 baron adventure fights that forced you to fight how they fight. the forsaken story ends up with us chasing uldren down to the watchtower where it is revealed he was being deceived by riven of 1000 voices the last ahamkara in an attempt to escape the dreaming city where queen mara sov locked here away for years after using her for her own benefit. we are introduced to the dreaming city in a mission where the player and petra venj establish a stronghold at the perimeter of the city and it by far is the best looking and interesting zone in all of destiny it has amazing visuals that change every week and a soundtrack to accompany it that gives rise of iron a run for its money. the new raid for destiny launched 10 days after the launch of forsaken and the first encounter was 540 light and the final being 580 light now some of the best players in the world at the time where around 550 so they went into the new raid under levelled under prepared and it just so happened to be the biggest and most complex raid in all of destiny's history so no pressure it only took 21 hours for the first team to complete it for context the biggest raid prior to last wish 35000 people competed in the first 24 hours last wish only 12 people completed it on 24 hours (sorry datto but 24:02 is still 2 minutes into the next reset) bungie had taken the difficulty, the grind, the challenge, the mystery and the reward and turned it up to 11. destiny 2 forsaken not only enhanced the pve experience with a new raid, 4 new strikes, 2 new patrol zones and a new for destiny a dungeon it also took the previously boring slow tame dry and lifeless hyper competitive pvp modes and took it back to the basics of destiny 1 by speeding things up sacrificing some balance for way more fun and engaging game play but they then innovated on this by adding 2 new pinnacle weapons to grind for in the competitive playlist the lunas howl and not forgotten they feature the perk magnificent howl which basically makes them with out a doubt the best pvp primarys in the game and getting them requires sweating the crucible for days but its so worth the pay off. but not only did bungie give us the best pve and pvp experiences of all of destiny they added a new hybrid mode in the form of gambit where players race to kill enough adds to spawn a big boss and be the first to kill it. gambit is one of the many things that makes forsaken feel bigger and better than a sequel giving new sources for loot and fun as well as making some fan favourite lore come back into fruition. not only that but they gave us somewhat infinite content with the new triumphs system which rewards score for completing mini tasks that can be displayed to other players through emblems but if you complete enough triumphs of a certain category you get a title something cool like rivensbane or cursebreaker or dredgen depending on what goals you completed these properly reward the completionist collectors this is even further backed p by getting badges for acquiring groups of loot in the collection a new tab that shows every item in the game and tells you how to earn it this is helped but he fact that bungie buffed just about everything and the new exotics where crazy good a personal favourite of mine being the ace of spades it sets the standard for what all primarys and exotics should feel like in destiny. as a whole bungie nocked it out of the park with forsaken giving players an incentive to d everything and making loot, progress and grinding worth while. 10/10 and on one last note the soundtrack is fanominal my favourite being gunslinger Expand

Simply breath-taking. It's an amazing expansion and it breaks me to see that 90% of the negative reviews are from people who want to hate on Activision or haven't even played the campaign yet. The Narrative is unlike anything we have previously seen on destiny, the feel of the came is crisp (the new weapon system and TTK changes make sure of that), and for the first time in destiny history, there is a pvp-PvE mode. Just because Bungie made massive screw-ups (the curse of the disappointment and a less disappointing Warmind) we need to remember that they orchestrated one of the greatest franchise of video game history Halo. Let's not forget that they also made The Taken King, which it is seen and Destiny 1's savior. What I am trying to say is that Bungie is capable of creating an iconic and Forsaken is nothing short of a masterpiece. Oh, and for those oblivious who say that the expansion is overpriced and that you have to pay 150$ if you haven't got the expansions, there is a bundle that you can buy for sixty bucks that include Destiny 2, Curse of Osiris, Warmind, and Forsaken. In my opinion, that IS worth the sixty dollars. Take a look at the taken king. It was also 40$ and only included 16-18 GB of content. Forsaken is ALSO 40$ and it has 47 GB OF CONTENT. That is almost enough to make Forsaken a stand-alone game. Therefore, be happy that you got a full game worth's of story, content, lore, equipment, and exotics for just 60 bucks. Expand

Destiny 2 Forsaken and the corresponding Annual Pass are examples of why looter shooters are fun. Destiny has always been an innovator by bring a lite MMO experience to consoles with many of their aspects like an expansive end game and raids.
Forsaken ultimately saved Destiny 2 from being faded out of existence something which Bungie should be proud of in both gameplay and the fantastic lore building they have done over the past year. Forsaken is a story of loss and facing impossible odds and an antagonist who is familiar to long term fans giving them more motivation to continue pushing through the plot.
On top of the fantastic main story 4 more subplots open up revolving around the Awoken homeland, Ada 1's Black Armory, The backstory of The Drifter and his role in this universe and the upcoming return to the Leviathan to tie up some loose ends. All of the story is fully explorable and constantly expanding with hours upon hours of lore for players to sink their teeth into.
As for Gameplay Forsaken has something for everyone whether you are a PvP Nut or a Hardcore PvE player the game offers a huge array of activities to do. And as of the writing of this review the end game will give players enough content to last for months.
In conclusion if you are interested in looter shooters and haven't hopped into Destiny now is the perfect time to hop in as the new season is drawing closer
