Definitely an improvement over the base game and early DLCs. Story was actually pretty interesting, characters had stronger motivations and main character had some agency. New faction is cool but underwhelming gameplay wise. Loot feels more interesting but still forgettable. New planet locations are beautiful and super cool, the clear standouts are the new places to play around in.

Taken King fixed Destiny 1. Forsaken fixes Destiny 2. After an ok base game and 2 bad DLC's, this expansion includes a deep, well written story with awesome level design and great new weapons.

Além de ter melhorado o jogo e trouxe muitas novidades para a jogabilidade e mecânicas incríveis, a história é a melhor parte, essa expansão parece um jogo novo, como se tivesse sido um ''Destiny 3'', ficou épico.

A great game, with a wonderful ambiance, excellent gameplay, a host of weapons and content that borders on the absurd, a fantastic game with a vast, rich and extensive gameplay, whether cooperative, single or competitive, a Bungie show, hi Microsoft, I miss a good Halo ...

Technically I'm covering year 1 & 2 here but this game is so good I had to go cold turkey on it after 12 months as it was literally taking over my life. Possibly in my top 5 games of all time considering the addictiveness.
The gunplay is done so well and the allure of better/unique weapons makes the grind feel worth it, especially for raids, where this game took it to a new level for me.

Honestly I think the people who rubbish this game just haven't gotten to the point where they're ready to raid and/or don't have mates that play it. But each to their own

This expansion pretty much fixed all of Destiny 2's faults and expands the game. CoO and Warmind were embarrassments of expansions and the only thing it had going for it was Escalation Protocol.

The story is actually kind of good, but kind of rides off the fact that Cayde dies. Without it, it's just meaningless, but that's kind of the point of his death. I don't like they make you do

The dreaming city was a great endgame planet to have. I don't like that they timegated a lot of things. Specifically the Seed of Light to get all 3 new subclasses.

The strikes were fun besides the Dreaming City one.

Crucible got a major overhaul, but Crucible still has a long ways to go

Gambit is the new game mode and it's a great addition. It's exceptional because you the better the team coordination, the better the experience. But that might be it's downfall of a game mode. It's also kind of long.

The raid is amazing. Kalli is a great encounter where they make you play exclude the wrong plates and make you hide in small doors.
-Shuro Chi is kind of long, but I like the puzzles and mechanics. I don't like that they segment her health.
-Morgeth is meh. Not very challenging, but the cleanse idea is cool and that you have to be fast.
-Vault is AMAZING. It's not very complicated to understand, but I love the fact that many are too scared to learn it.
Riven is very challenging and it was great to do it legit. it's unfortunate that Cluster Cheese has to exist.
-Heart just shouldn't exist. Was there just to satisfy a story.

Forsaken ultimately saved Destiny 2 from being faded out of existence something which Bungie should be proud of in both gameplay and the fantastic lore building they have done over the past year. Forsaken is a story of loss and facing impossible odds and an antagonist who is familiar to long term fans giving them more motivation to continue pushing through the plot.
On top of the fantastic main story 4 more subplots open up revolving around the Awoken homeland, Ada 1's Black Armory, The backstory of The Drifter and his role in this universe and the upcoming return to the Leviathan to tie up some loose ends. All of the story is fully explorable and constantly expanding with hours upon hours of lore for players to sink their teeth into.
As for Gameplay Forsaken has something for everyone whether you are a PvP Nut or a Hardcore PvE player the game offers a huge array of activities to do. And as of the writing of this review the end game will give players enough content to last for months.
In conclusion if you are interested in looter shooters and haven't hopped into Destiny now is the perfect time to hop in as the new season is drawing closer

after a year of being a huge piece of **** bungie got their act together and released this destiny 2 forsaken. so it all starts out with the first mission last call now going into it everyone new cayde was going to die and so did bungie so they made the last mission with him one of the best most fun most memorable missions in all of destiny and for me all of gaming. we where running through the prison of elders wiping out minions of the darkness left right and centre with enough scripted moments to make the environment feel alive. on top of that this mission gives us one of the best tracks of one of the best destiny soundtracks gunslinger it makes this mission what it is but on top of all of that we got last stand of the gunslinger which for most of its duration looks like it was filmed on a camera as well as being one the best action scenes and cut scenes in all of destiny. and the fatal moment we find cayde in his final moments and we comfort him as he reassures us that its not our fault his final words are truly amazing "tell zavala and ikora the vanguard was the best bet... i ever lost" it was at this moment i knew my faith and money in bungie had been well worth it and that with destiny 2 forsaken i would be in for a treat. following this we head to the tangled shore which has a cool new character/vendor i the spider as well as some amazing tunes along with the 6 baron adventure fights that forced you to fight how they fight. the forsaken story ends up with us chasing uldren down to the watchtower where it is revealed he was being deceived by riven of 1000 voices the last ahamkara in an attempt to escape the dreaming city where queen mara sov locked here away for years after using her for her own benefit. we are introduced to the dreaming city in a mission where the player and petra venj establish a stronghold at the perimeter of the city and it by far is the best looking and interesting zone in all of destiny it has amazing visuals that change every week and a soundtrack to accompany it that gives rise of iron a run for its money. the new raid for destiny launched 10 days after the launch of forsaken and the first encounter was 540 light and the final being 580 light now some of the best players in the world at the time where around 550 so they went into the new raid under levelled under prepared and it just so happened to be the biggest and most complex raid in all of destiny's history so no pressure it only took 21 hours for the first team to complete it for context the biggest raid prior to last wish 35000 people competed in the first 24 hours last wish only 12 people completed it on 24 hours (sorry datto but 24:02 is still 2 minutes into the next reset) bungie had taken the difficulty, the grind, the challenge, the mystery and the reward and turned it up to 11. destiny 2 forsaken not only enhanced the pve experience with a new raid, 4 new strikes, 2 new patrol zones and a new for destiny a dungeon it also took the previously boring slow tame dry and lifeless hyper competitive pvp modes and took it back to the basics of destiny 1 by speeding things up sacrificing some balance for way more fun and engaging game play but they then innovated on this by adding 2 new pinnacle weapons to grind for in the competitive playlist the lunas howl and not forgotten they feature the perk magnificent howl which basically makes them with out a doubt the best pvp primarys in the game and getting them requires sweating the crucible for days but its so worth the pay off. but not only did bungie give us the best pve and pvp experiences of all of destiny they added a new hybrid mode in the form of gambit where players race to kill enough adds to spawn a big boss and be the first to kill it. gambit is one of the many things that makes forsaken feel bigger and better than a sequel giving new sources for loot and fun as well as making some fan favourite lore come back into fruition. not only that but they gave us somewhat infinite content with the new triumphs system which rewards score for completing mini tasks that can be displayed to other players through emblems but if you complete enough triumphs of a certain category you get a title something cool like rivensbane or cursebreaker or dredgen depending on what goals you completed these properly reward the completionist collectors this is even further backed p by getting badges for acquiring groups of loot in the collection a new tab that shows every item in the game and tells you how to earn it this is helped but he fact that bungie buffed just about everything and the new exotics where crazy good a personal favourite of mine being the ace of spades it sets the standard for what all primarys and exotics should feel like in destiny. as a whole bungie nocked it out of the park with forsaken giving players an incentive to d everything and making loot, progress and grinding worth while. 10/10 and on one last note the soundtrack is fanominal my favourite being gunslinger Expand

If you don't go into this expansion with a over cynical outlook on the franchise as a whole, like some people have. You will find: an enjoyable story that leaves an impact on the Destiny 2, some great quality of life updates, fun new game mode 'Gambit' and a focus on more 'endgame' content with the massive 'Last Wish' raid; all of this means Forsaken is the largest content drop out of the DLC's and Expansions Destiny player have gotten. The only criticism I had was the campaign did have some lost potential with the ending but it wasn't a massive problem, the other issue I had was the price. However, since then the expansion is massively discounted. Expand

Good: The grind is back. No longer are things just handed out to every player who logs in. Exotics feel rare and exclusive because they honestly don't drop very often. Random rolls make the chase for gear fun again, because trying to get that perfectly rolled weapon takes time. Shattered Throne, Destiny's first dungeon, is one of the best experiences I have ever had in a Destiny game and plays like a mini-raid. Last Wish is hands down the BEST raid experience I have ever had with this franchise. It's long, difficult, and rewards precise teamwork and communication. The Dreaming City is by far one of the most beautiful spaces ever created in a video game. Bows. Bows are absolutely epic and a blast to use.

Bad: Infusion economy is a bit broken. Relying on Masterwork Cores to infuse gear is a pain when drops for them are wildly inconsistent and the options to actually earn them are scarce (should be fixed on 30 October). Playstation exclusive armor is some of the ugliest armor ever created. Looks like a 5 year old drew it. PvP is still a mess. Shotguns still ruin most experiences and it's not rewarding for non-PvP players. DLC price was steep for an expansion considering this is the game we SHOULD have received when D2 released.

Story: Forsaken's campaign is both epic and emotional. What starts with the death of a good friend and the most beloved character in the Destiny universe, spirals into a bounty hunt through some creative play areas and fun boss fights, to a final encounter that surprised many. For most, the final boss may have been totally random, but for those of us who like reading lore and KNEW what was coming in the raid, it was a great segue into that activity. We still may never know who pulled that trigger at the end, but the campaign ends on a great note and checked the boxes I wanted. 10/10

Weapons: A lot of the new weapons feel kind of meh, but there are some that are just awesome. Bungie is still the king of tight gunplay and Forsaken feels expertly tuned for the most part. Some standout weapons like Luna's Howl, Redrix's Broadsword, all bows, Bygones pulse rifle, and the Chattering Bone raid pulse are great. It's nice that Bungie still kept weapons like the Ikelos SG, Whisper of the Worm, and Sleeper Simulant viable in this expansion and they still take up a spot in my inventory. 9/10

Exotic Weapons: Out of all the new exotics, some of them are just fantastic to use. Wish-Ender is difficult to earn and requires a steep learning curve to master due to the long draw time, but the True Sight bonus while using it makes it fun. The Wavesplitter is a fantastic Trace Rifle and requires a little skill to use. Ace of Spades is much better than it was in D1. Malfeasance feels underwhelming but it's getting a buff soon. Cerberus+1 is an interesting concept, but can be a little difficult to master. One Thousand Voices is truly an exotic. It hits hard and is worth the grind. Two-Tailed fox is so much fun to use and can take enemies out of their super with the suppression rocket while destroying them with the second one. 9/10

Exotic Armor: Every guardian now has an exotic armor piece that gives super energy back. Some of the designs are awesome (Ursa Furiosa, Shards of Galanor, Chromatic Fire) and some are just meh (Antaeus Wards, Gwisn Vest). Overall I like the new armor designs and they provide some great, if only slightly gamebreaking perks (Usa Furiosa...) 8/10

Hunter Supers: Arcstrider - meh. The staff spin is great at reflecting projectiles back at enemies, but it's not useful in most content. Gunslinger - fantastic! Hunters finally have a super that can wipe a ton of enemies at once, and it melts bosses. Nighstalker - fun, but situational. Flawless Execution helps play on the "assassin" feel. 9/10

Titan Supers: Striker - ok. It's difficult to use and you only get one smash. Sunbreaker - fun, but situational. The hammer is fun, but not great.. Sentinel - fun, but situational. The shield ability is great in Last Wish encounters and can save your team a lot, but it's not a strong class. 5/10

Warlock Supers: Stormcaller - fun, but hard to control. This super turns you into an anime character and puts out some good damage but can be hard to control. Dawnblade - fun, but situational. This super is a necessity in raids. It provides a great damage buff and protection, all while giving the team a large area to roam in. Voidwalker - EPIC. Nova Warp is a beast. It melts in PvP and destroys adds in PVE. Essential.

Overall Forsaken gives us exactly what we want. Play it and you won't be sorry.

Now if you're someone with even a vague idea of how Bungie works, you're asking "where's the catch". Well, the entire progression system has been completely trashed, pretty much every aspect of the game has been made more grindy, the number of activities has increased dramatically which is good because there's more to do, but bad because it's almost impossible to keep up with three characters in a week and not treat Destiny 2 like a job. Basic infusion has been made ridiculously expensive requiring planetary materials, glimmer, legendary shards AND masterwork cores. Exotics are rare again, but with the entire year 1 loot pool being lumped in with the new forsaken exotics don't expect to enjoy any of the new stuff anytime soon. All in all the experience feels like Bungie has pulled out all the stops to frustrate the levelling process and extend the grind knowing that forsaken needs to last them a year with only minor DLC drops to pad it out.

All in all, if you can dedicate the time to Forsaken it's a fun experience and a return to form for Bungie, I just wish they'd stop trying to fix stuff like the progression system that was totally fine to begin with.

For the first time since The Taken King, Destiny manages to capture the magic that the series has promised but failed to deliver. People will argue that this is the version of Destiny 2 that should have launched, and it's hard to dispute. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well, I must accept that Forsaken is how the game should have gone in the beginning, at least Destiny 2, the excessively high price to be a DLC, and really that an iconic character died from the saga is not very good, however, the amount of content, new activities like Gambito have revived the game. It's worth it, not every penny, but it happens. Giving this game less scoring is to underestimate the quality of some things. Giving more points is overestimating the relationship between price / content. Expand

Alas, it has been a difficult year and Bungie has now "turned the ship around" so to speak. So what does Forsaken have to offer to those hoping for a Destiny resurgence? I am happy to say Destiny is back, in some ways even more so than before. There are some growing pains here which are noticeable, but for the most part things are back in swing. The primary changes made with the DLC and Sept/August update are; random rolls, weapon slot changes, faster TTK, new mods system, armor perks, collections, triumphs, bounties/challenges, economy changes, etc. All were welcome changes and necessities for what was a dying game. In addition to gameplay/system changes, you have new play spaces and activities. Of course you have the new DLC campaign. It seems strange to say but Bungie actually put together a solid narrative and an engaging campaign to run through. This isn't to say this story is anything on the level of a narrative like GOW or Uncharted, but it has enough mystery and intrigue to justify playing through till the end. You have 2 new game spaces, The Tangled Shore and The Dreaming City. The Tangled Shore doesn't give you that much incentive to come back to it after the main campaign but it is still nice to have it. Within the Dreaming City you have many secrets and items to go after as well as a new court of Oryx type activity. The new game mode is gambit. This one is a real standout addition, and is almost unilaterally praised. There are some new strikes, pretty standard stuff. Adventures, though not new content, have gotten reinvigorated with new rewards and powerful gear worth pursuing. The only thing I've yet to experience is the Raid, which I am sure will be great. With all the good there is here there are also some missed opportunities and missteps. The planetary vendors from vanilla Destiny have not updated any of their inventory to have random rolled gear. all of your planetary tokens and materials are basically useless. A real disappointment there. Also Bungie has still not added any sort of loadout system in-game for your gear, which is a bit ridiculous for a looter shooter. Many of the end game activities still do not have matchmaking. I understand the Raid, but there is no excuse for the other activities. Generally there are a lack of in-game systems to help the player streamline their experience. If you have a group of friends ready to jump on with you it won't be as much of a problem, but for everyone else, they are out of luck. It is great to see the game moving in the right direction and fulfilling its potential. People will praise Bungie when they do good. The community isn't just a group of angry gamers looking for something to yell at. Most are just people wanting a good game to play. Luckily there is one here for them. Expand

Killer expansion: easily the best storytelling in any Destiny (wasn't that hard tbh..) and GAMBIT IS AMAZING. God rolls are back, loving it!!

I have been so addicted to this expansion. It still needs some work in some areas and understanding to be fair to their customers from a price perspective, but they are clearly heading in the right direction now gameplay wise.

Yes, D2:Forsaken is MILES better than the base game and previous DLC, but the expansion is not perfect. Cons below:
    - The story bosses are way too easy than they should be and there wasn't really a solid build up structure before fighting them. I just saw them as "another enemy" nothing too exciting but their background stories are quite good.
    - The questing while expansive with so many things to do, they are very confusing to navigate. Most of the time, I forget if the quests I'm doing are bounties, daily/weeklys or quest steps. Bungie REALLY need to work out another questing layout structure to avoid this issue.
    - In terms of linking with the other expansions, I don't think it really does. From what I've experienced, they have included gear pieces from previous expansions into Forsaken quests, but quest wise, they all seem very disjointed from eachother, leaving them mostly redundant.
    - Finally, the pricing. My god. This is criminal. There is a great game forming behind this paywall, but the "buy the game again with extra content" tactic won't work forever. Its only going to make everybody lose faith.

Overall, if you still have the slightest faith in Destiny and believe that they can really form an incredible game, this is heading to that point and I highly recommend coming back to it and seeing for yourself. Theres plenty to do now and I can feel the love being put into the game. Its as if they have hit momentum now.
However, If Bungie drop the ball and screw over their customers with money again, D2 will be in the ground.
I really hope it has a great future because without money/DLC greed and a bit more fine tuning to the game, they have the potential to craft a masterpiece.

Bungie might've lost a portion of their player base for good, but for anyone that wishes to continue playing - or hop in now - Forsaken does a lot to fix Destiny 2, while forging its own identity.

The sequel’s best expansion by a distance. This update delivers a lively campaign that deserves to lure lapsed players back into the Fallen fold. [Issue#155, p.97]
