    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This was one of two games I finished this year and I enjoyed it till the end. The game mechanic for delivering stuff is handled very well. It is not boring because it's different every time. In the beginning, there is a significant reward for almost any delivery that makes the next delivery easier and fun. The story has pace and the ending is extremely satisfying. I didn't even realize I spent 50 hours in this world. I enjoyed Episode 3 the most. It takes ~1/3 of the game, everything is still new, you are getting better and better in tech and the story is delivered in the exact right batches.

    SPOILER: There are two downsides I would say. The first thing is the game punishes killing somebody pretty hard so the player is forced into stealth approach. On the other hand, the end of the game is completely different. The game prepares you for stealth whole time and then you have to shoot your way out at the end. There is no alternative way.

    SPOILER: The second thing is there is one scene at the end where you have to wait for credits to finish. I was finishing this 4 am morning, I saw myself in the bed and it was pretty stressing waiting til credits finish and the story continues.    … Expand

Episodes 1 and 2 are definitely teaching you how to play the game, it takes roughly 10 hours to get through the epilogue and first two episodes. People at the very least need to get to episode 3 in order for the game to fully open up. It is such a great game with an easy concept deliver packages from point A to point B and Sometimes to point C. This game is not for everyone and that doesn't make it not a Masterpiece. I am not a Kojima fan, I dont care for any of the metal gear solid games but for some reason I absolutely loved this game. Give it a try push through episodes 1 and 2 and I promise the game will change. The community for the game has done some amazing building with structures and given the game life. It truly is a great experience. Again though the game isn't for everyone.… Expand

    The of the best games this generation! Such a unique and beautiful game and the best graphics this generation by far. People saying it's a walking simulator either haven't played it or don't have a high enough IQ to understand it.

    Juegazo único y espectacular.
    Los diseños son para quitarse el sombrero (grande Shinkawa) y está presente de nuevo el gusto por el detallismo extremo . Es curioso lo que sucede con los paisajes en este juego, y la sensación de tierra primigenia y mundo limpio que transmiten. La jugabilidad es sólida (no espere un juego de acción, porque no lo es) y la trama    An incredible experience.

    saying this is a walking simulator is overly simplified, it is more of a high risk delivery simulator. The game is polished and has amazing graphics, the story is fresh and unique from all games currently in the market, it's always cool to hate on something different but this game is needed to push the medium forward.

    Death Stranding is a different kind of experience. It's rather ironic for a game whose themes are about uniting the world. Ironic, but also unavoidable thanks to some curious design decisions from Hideo Kojima.

    Death Stranding is a different kind of experience. It uses elements from other established genres (open world design, driving, shooting, crafting, etc.), but also focuses on other aspects that haven't been touched by most (if not all) other games out there. I'm talking about human connections. What I mean is this: on other games you meet side characters, complete a few errands for them, and then forget about them altogether. On Death Stranding you meet insignificant side characters, too, but you form a connection with them, and even start worrying about some of them. Can't explain why is this happening, maybe all those emails you get from them as you progress the story triggers that kind of emotion and mentality. For example, one side character is an old man needing medicine and can also die if you leave him without meds for a long time, so it's another worry for the player. Other than NPCs, you also get likes from other real players roaming the same area as you and using the structures you left behind. Likewise, you can use structures left behind by other real players. It's an asymmetrical online system clearly inspired by the Souls/Bloodborne games.

    The game's story is a mix of sci-fi, philisophy and human tragedy. The story itself is fine, full of typical Hideo Kojima twists and turns, but many people will be left scratching their heads. The game's overall atmosphere (a blend of tranquility and horror) is great. The actors do a great job, although it's clear they didn't have as much time to shoot their scenes as it's possible on movies. Hideo Kojima has created some fantastic characters with interesting backstories, but some of them end up being a disappointment (particularly Higgs, voiced by Troy Baker, and Fragile, voiced by Lea Seydoux). The world building though is almost flawless.

    Now let's go to the big elephant in the room, gameplay. The main routine is to deliver packages from point A to point B. Simple as that. But the trick is in traversing the environment. As you walk around, you have to balance the weight of the cargo you are carrying, and also use the tools at your disposal to cross a chasm, descend a big vertical drop, etc. Basically the environment is a puzzle you have to solve in order to proceed to the next mission - or rather, delivery.

    Combat exists in this game but it's limited (and also highly discouraged due to the game's lore of avoiding death at all costs). Enemies are either humans willing to rob you of your cargo, or supernatural beings called BTs that can catch you and force you to fight some weird creatures in a shifting landscape. But to be honest, the boss fights of Death Stranding are a huge let down. They could have been something special, especially the Mads Mikkelsen sections, but the way they have been implemented is mediocre at best. Slow to respond, easy to avoid, just spam them with bullets (or even just leave the area and the fight stops). Only 2 fights in the end are something approaching a true boss fight, but don't expect anything that matches Hideo Kojima's past accomplishments.

    Now this game's been ridiculed with all kinds of memes, such as walking simulator, postman simulator, etc. which is nonsense and as pointless as branding Call of Duty a "pull-the-trigger" simulator or FIFA a "score-a-goal" simulator. Each game is its own kind of experience, and Death Stranding has its own identity. It doesn't have to appeal to everyone in order to be considered good. And that's why it's polarized gamers. People were expecting something and got another, although they were never promised anything in the first place.

    On the technical side, Death Stranding is a luxurious production. You'll get some of the best graphics on the PS4 and one of the most memorable OSTs in recent memory. And even though it's only running at 30 fps, input lag is surprisingly low.

    Overall, Death Stranding is a unique experience. Just like any of Hideo Kojima's past works, the journey to get from Death Stranding's announcement to its release was memorable and almost as significant as the game itself actually launching and being played by gamers. Unfortunately it won't appeal to everyone. Give this game a try if you are bored of modern AAA games recycling same old same things and also trying to rip you off with loot boxes and microtransactions. If you just want to endlessly and mindlessly shoot and punch enemies like you do on every other game out there, Death Stranding unfortunately isn't for you.    … Expand

    death stranding ha demostrado ser algo mas que un videojuego, es una experiencia unica, una banda sonora increible, una historia muy interesante y la satisfaccion que te da poder caminar por todo el mapa y poder apreciar su naturaleza es algo que otros juego no te daran.

La jugabilidad no es su fuerte, si que es cierto que hay una tensión constante para evitar que no se te caigan los paquetes y poder llegar a tu destino. Es un juego diferente el cual a muchos puede que no les encaje y prefieran otro tipo de títulos, para gustos colores. Personalmente me ha gustado bastante y es distinto a lo que he jugado hasta ahora y eso es un punto favorable.     Игра более чем достойна для покупки, такие проекты выходят в наше время очень редко и я считаю, если вы любите по настоящему хорошие игры, то обязаны хотя бы попробовать. Как минимум что бы полностью прочувствовать историю и персонажей, каждый в этой игре по своему уникален и не только персонажи :). Историю Сэма можно по настоящему прочувствовать только если вы сами пройдете его путь вИгра более чем достойна для покупки, такие проекты выходят в наше время очень редко и я считаю, если вы любите по настоящему хорошие игры, то обязаны хотя бы попробовать. Как минимум что бы полностью прочувствовать историю и персонажей, каждый в этой игре по своему уникален и не только персонажи :). Историю Сэма можно по настоящему прочувствовать только если вы сами пройдете его путь в этой игре, никакие ролики на ютубе или твиче не подарят вам то, что сможет сам геймплей. Согласен, что подобный опыт очень многим придется не по душе и это очень печально(. Да, тут основа геймплея это ходьба, но эта ходьба намного интереснее играется, чем любой экшен в другой игре. Научитесь видеть и чувствовать прекрасное вокруг себя когда идете сквозь опасности к своей цели. очень надеюсь, что Кодзима не остановится на этом и родит что-то еще подобное, а может совершенно что-то новое как всегда) 9/10.     The game really exceeded my expectations, the portuguese voice acting is beautiful, awesome graphics on ps4 pro I haven't finished the game yet I am very involved with the story. It was worth it could have more action believe in the unfolding happens even more.

    After playing it's not surprising how divisive the reviews are. I think it's an absolutely amazing experience. The uniqueness, meticulous detail, and incredible visuals inspire a wonder I haven't felt in a game in years.

Je suis content que certain jeux et séries sont adressé au personne qui on un cerveau (westworld par exemple vue les critiques) car la dire qu'il et mauvais reviens a dire que tu et un débile qui préfère pan pan boum. Je ne suis que au tout debut et j'ai déjà 8h dessus pourquoi ? Parseque je ramasse les colis que les gens laisse tombé plutôt queJe ne donne jamais un avis mais la obliger.     Fantastic game, not for those who favour action and explosions and this game is also not for those who just place FIFA titles, this game requires investment, time, planning and most of all, attention. The graphic and landscapes are gorgeous, the gameplay loop is really relaxing, the story is fantastic and very different. The fact that this game exists and was published by Sony should already by a reason to hail it, but it truly is a masterpiece from Kojima's master mind.     It's a serious game with a great story. Features solid game mechanics, graphics, animations and sound.

    You may not like this game if you have an IQ less than 105, and you should probably stick to the new Modern Warfare which is also a good game by the way, but not as complex to understand.

    Este juego no es para todo el mundo, no es que necesites 3000 de IQ como dicen algunos, simplemente es un juego distinto y no le va a gustar a todo el mundo, y si, es un walking simulator (genero de juegos que me encanta) pero no es un Walking simulator normal, lo simple que parezca ir de a a b es un reto donde tienes que tener en cuenta todo desde el terreno hasta la disposición del tuEste juego no es para todo el mundo, no es que necesites 3000 de IQ como dicen algunos, simplemente es un juego distinto y no le va a gustar a todo el mundo, y si, es un walking simulator (genero de juegos que me encanta) pero no es un Walking simulator normal, lo simple que parezca ir de a a b es un reto donde tienes que tener en cuenta todo desde el terreno hasta la disposición del tu equipo, entiendo que si alguien viene esperando un juego a lo MG V o algo quizas mas de miedo por los primeros trailers y el P.T. no le vaya a gustar.
    La historia aun que rara al principio se acaba explicando muy bien de una forma muy natural, este juego entra fácilmente en mi top juegos de toda la vida.
    Comentando lo que dice mucha gente de que es tedioso, esa es la idea, el juego tiene que sentirse difícil, tedioso y frustrarte así cuando completas diferentes "zonas" o incluso acabas el juego te sientes muy realizado y la historia no tendría sentido, sin entrar en spoilers al final el viaje tiene que haber sido difícil y duro para que todo tenga sentido
    PD: Me he pasado el juego en difícil no se realmente en que afecta la dificultad, quizás solo a los combates o quizás a muchas mas cosas pero me parecía importante decirlo    … Expand

This game lived up to all my expectations. There are many moments where I thought "What's happening?" or where I was completely shocked. There were funnyIt's fascinating. You have done it, Kojima. This game lived up to all my expectations. There are many moments where I thought "What's happening?" or where I was completely shocked. There were funny moments, and emotional moments that made me cry. Sure, some parts can be a bit annoying sometimes, like long missions or driving through bad terrain with a vehicle but those parts are only happening like twice.     Purchased this game due to the hype created around it and was severely let down on all factors aside from graphics and cinematics. This game is as boring as it gets and just gets extremely boring after not even an hour of playing it. I would avoid any buyer from purchasing this game. Seriously save your money it isn't worth spending it on this.

    I think this is a great and unic game. It has great ideas and good working game mechanics. I love playing it. It's sad for me seeing all these bad reviews. I guess people expected something different. I get that this game is not for everyone but there were a lot of reviews from jurnalists about what to expect before the game came out. So I don't understand these people.

    It's basically a supreme metaphor for lootboxes and manages to keep the game mechanics interesting. Oh, and of course the atmosphere and storytelling is superb. Kojima Production has yet again reached a new level for the whole industry.

    This game starts out kind of slow, but it took me until episode 3 to realize that suffering through a slow, weak, and defenseless character was necessary for you to appreciate the intense “wow” moments that occur later as you gradually become more adept. For those that stick with it, you will be rewarded with a unique, unconventional gaming experience that is implemented in a masterful way.

    The game play is the controversial part and while I understand the critics I think it's important go keep an open mind, so I jumped in the game blind and I enjoy it very much, walking is something we usually take for granted, in this game, not anymore. Pushing forward must be a conscious decision, and obstacle as dumb as a rock must be taken in account, it's refreshing to see some changes in the way I must think.

    The online aspect is another part where the game shine, for me, you never feel alone, it really remind you that you are not alone in this, that you share this adventure with others and that is wholesome, if that make sense.

    One thing I didn't like, is how long the game take to take off, the game only open up margely at chapter 3, so if you get the game just do the main quests until chapter 3 or even 5 to unlock the ziplines. I am not sure how to fix this problem though, because the game litterally have to teach you how to walk again.

    I will conclude by saying this game is, indeed, not for everyone, and that's okay, in music Rock doesn't speak to everyone, in movies war films are not appreciated by everyone, but I can't say if you will like it or not.    … Expand

With 50+ hours played, Death Stranding is a magnificent and slow smoldering entity of a game, showing it's unique and eccentric profoundness in the story, lore, music, graphics, atmosphere, and everywhere in between...(especially the acting!).. But, there are three major annoyances which you must know, and get used to if you really want to see the Gorgeous world Hideo has given inside...which are the beyond frustrating (and even unresponsive) controls and game play, overly complex and awful game mechanics and interface, and cut scenes that pop in at inconvenient times, one after the other...which feels intentionally done which is a shame. If you want instant gratification and convenience, DO NOT buy this game.

    NOTE: SOME SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE BEGINNING OF THE STORY/TO EXPLAIN THE SETUP OF THE STORY.

    You play Sam Porter Bridges, who is a freelance porter (I.E. package deliverer). The story unfolds with you getting coerced and obligated by a Government package Delivery entity called Bridges into delivering packages to people and communities across the UCA (USA) and rebuilding a Chiral network (glorified internet connection) from the East coast to the West coast. You do this so everyone can access the Chiral network to make and request deliveries for everything and anything they need because after The event known as the "Death Stranding" the dimensional worlds of the living, dead, passed, and, present have overlapped each other, bringing particularly creepy and chaotic BT's connected by umbilical cords from the land of the dead. In an outside world full of large areas of BT's, Mules(obsessed delivery zombies), terrorists, timefall (rain and snow that ages everything it touches rapidly), empty hellish landscapes, etc which make life inconvenient, your goal is to bring everyone onto the Chiral network so they can stay safe and get their deliveries of anything from medical supplies to pizza to art, toys, books and more. On your journey to reconnect the UCA with the Chiral network, you run into quite a few people who you must convince to join by delivering goods to earn their broken trust after events which unfolded with the first Bridges team when they failed to bring the network completely up the first time, before you were a member. Also on your journey, you'll meet a particularly strong terrorist who has a connection to the BT's and will be revealed as your antagonist in the story as you try to unravel why he became a terrorist, how you can stop him, and how to connect a fractured society. Furthermore, you are also trying to reach the West coast in order to replace the President of the UCA, who dies extremely early in the game and also tasks you with reconnecting the UCA's Chiral network to everyone after said terrorist, antagonist, and previously courier company owner took steps to sabotage it.
    A few more things to note while you are playing. The Babies, or BB's as they are called can detect BT phantoms, having a connection to the land of living and Dead, they were born to still mothers, and only can live for up to a year supposedly,and it's why you use them to navigate the land. When someone dies, they have to be cremated, or they get necrosis and become essentially a bomb, which they call a void-out and it's so powerful in fact that it'll leave mile long craters. Beaches are also a very vague subject in the story which as far as I gathered, are places between life and death, almost part of the subconscious where people can meet, like the Chiral network, but, internal.
    Overall, the game is an easy 8.3 out of 10 for me. Would be a 10/10 if the controls and interface wasn't so unforgiving and frustrating, because it's really a beautifully put together game.    … Expand

    For most people gameplay looks repetitive and meditative but it has a big variety of equipment that allow you to experimenting with your own playthrough.
    Graphics and sound are simply great.

    An interesting and unusual experience that you should try yourself and find out worth it or not. Very divisive game but i like it so much. For me it's 9/10

Remember how parents told us to be nice and care for each other ? I completed story mission 2 but I ran back for the new players. To leave a message, to leave a ladder for the others. To leave a sign I have been here. It makes you do that without hesitation. The Story is important but the game gives you the feeling of being alone, that's why you turn back instead of going on. You want to help others. Kojima calls back out to humanity. Care for each other. Help each other. I never felt something like that, in Nier Automata but who really played the Original Nier? Nier Automata was a blast afterwards, it made its impact afterwards. It's like Shenmue, Nier, Shenmue, the Game shows you you are alone and you do everything to help each other.     That's when the connection concepts gets stronger. The community is always trying to help each other to build structures, or leaving their tools to help each other, without expecting nothing in return. The community is a healthy, collaborative one.

    It has some action segments that are "ok", nothing new but far from terrible, a little bit generic, perhaps. But this game is stronger in the little moments and events, when you for example suffer MULEs attack when you are full of cargo. It's not for the combat: is for the tension, your are afraid of loosing your things because it was very difficult to obtain, and loosing it is not an option. Or the first encounters with the VTs, your strategy vs the timefall...

    I love this game, seriously. It's not perfect, it's not for everyone, but if you have a little bit of criterion in videogames I think you can appreciate the great things about this game.

    As a resume...

    Pros:
    -A risky, revolutionary gameplay proposal that feels very original and makes a other-videogame repetitive task a very entertaining one
    -The story is amazing and the characters, lore and universe are very unique.
    -As the game advance, you always have new options, tools and discover new things.
    -The "music" moments are just amazing. Lots of "pretty little moments" to remember while playing.
    -The online features add a lot of depth into the game. The community is amazing.

    Cons:

    -The first 1-2 hours (+/-) are a little bit strange, your connection with the world it's cold and you don't have information about nothing in the first segment.
    -If you don't like the slow gameplay, perhaps this game don't have too much action segments for you.
    -A little bit more of variety in the missions cargo conditions would be cool
    -Play without connection kills the experience.    … Expand

    wow what a great experience. manage to convey a lot of emotions. The music and graphics are excellent. and as for the controls they transmit the effort that the character makes to move through this incredible world.

As the game progresses you will acquire different equipment to better handle yourself it is very realistic that way 10/10 a cinematic experience with a Kojima like story with lots of familiar faces along the way truly different and honestly unique gameplay with online interactions that are free (No Ps4 plus needed) your building a country with other players for free.… Expand

    As for the game itself, I think everybody wants to be the king... rescue the princess, and blast their way through swarms of enemies, delivering a hail of shrapnel upon them, all whilst shruging off glancing bullets from them in return, and riding off into the sunset with the damsel in distress at their side. People want sensationalism, and an experience that caters towards their own bias. God forbid they should ever open their minds and experience something that isn't scripted to their own desires or shortcomings.    … Expand

    Everything I expected from this game, got! Hideo thank you, an unforgettable and a new experience, touching the plot. Unfortunately I see mirroring with the author's cinema, take his colleague Nicholas Winding Refn, not all of his films are successful judging by the reviews, but I think they are brilliant and great!

    Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it.     This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

    Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
