The fact that "all you do" is deliver packages, yet the game has yet to feel repetitive to me and I can't wait to see what the next mission brings after 30+ hours is a testament to just how well thought out and designed this game is.

An amazing game, every time I finish a contract, I can't wait to get out there again. I've been having so much fun the last week, exploring, and watching structures suddenly popping up that others build.

Not subtle, yet so much is thrown at the player; This game tries to give the player more than incentive to finish the game. Rare that a game tries to teach ethics to the player, than just being blank-slate entertainment.

If you are calling Death Stranding a boring game you don't even deserve to play it, you just don't get it. Most of the negative reviews here are from people who haven't even played the game just watched some gameplay stream and then calling it boring and repetitive.

Parts of the gameplay I love are that simply getting from A to B is difficult because of the terrain and falling over due to it, the sheer weight of this huge delivery on your back, the weather to with harsh winds make it one of the most immersive games ever. Not a walking simulator, it’s hiking up the most epic mountainous regions you’ve ever seen. Then the BTs (like ghosts) appear or the time fall rain which damages your cargo giving a sense of urgency get in the way. Enemies try to steal your cargo and it all happens organically in this beautiful world, also online aspects are great and you feel genuinely so great full when your stamina is at zero and your cargo is about to be obliterated and you reach a cliff only to find climbing gear left in the perfect spot randomly by a stranger. The satisfaction can’t really be explained. It is a very meditative game requiring you to really invest in the world and to be open minded to its completely different gameplay than anything you’ve played. For those saying this is only loved by kojima fanboys, that is ridiculous. I thought MGS V was the worst in the series for story but best for gameplay. This game is maybe even better than metal gear in what it accomplished but the two CANNOT be compared as they are totally different games made for different audiences. Hideo Kojima has made the game he wants to make and now I am even more of a fan. The only game director creating true triple A budget indie games because that is what this game is, indie through and through, not a blockbuster COD/assassins creed/battlefield game. Etc.

I only pray that this game does well enough to inspire more creativity in what is a fairly stagnant industry (with a few notable stand outs yearly). Death stranding for me and from the looks of it, many others, is a masterpiece and a one of a kind game. Part of the problem in knowing if the game is for you is that there is nothing else like it. I only hope people pick it up to try because if it is for you, you will NOT be sorry!

Expand

The people down voting and making unoriginal comments like 'Death Stranding is an Amazon simulator' are only regurgitation their equally moronic YouTube hero's opinion. They haven't played the game and find it difficult to process any type of game that strays from the norm. They are the type of 'gamer' who viciously defends rubbish like Modern Warfare and tell those who rightly dislike the game to 'lEaRn aNd aDaPt'. They buy Ubisoft games at launch. They purchase EA games at launch. They are the dumb uneducated masses tricked into thinking their pre-installed opinions make them intelligent. They simply do not understand Death Stranding and the confusion it causes them makes them react like dumb angry apes. The anger they feel leads to them writing poor reviews in an attempt to put others off, so they don't feel alone in their shame at not having the brain power to process a piece of art.

Basically Death Stranding is an awesome game. It is stunningly beautiful exploring the varied landscapes which are complimented by a haunting soundtrack, a mind blowing storyline and excellent gameplay.

This is a must buy for any real gamer.

I'm not surprised by Kojim's reference sources, from Harari's books to Stranger Things. The scientific hypotheses used in the story, the philosophy of existentialism, the importance and use of the fiction in the play were appropriate.

I read every note and note curiously.

One of the biggest criticisms of Kojima's MGS series is the formation of dozens of equipment used in the game, such as barrels, for example.

Perhaps, this game is designed to respond to these criticisms. If we use the visual and mass volume of almost any item in a game, the answer to how we uncover a game is Death Stranding.

Who would want to see and carry the items they carry on a game like that? especially
    if he plays rpg :)

    [No spoiler]
Yes, you heard that right, this game is hiking simulator. How is it different from Walking Simulator? In most basic term is that physic apply to your character realistically. There's no Skyrim jumping over cliff to climb it, or hovering over cliff because 1 pixel of your model is on it and the game physic treat you as 1 solid cube. If you step on 'wet' steep hill, your character can 'lost balance' and slide down hill, and you can then hit small rock during that sliding, and now your character will trip and start to 'roll' instead of sliding.

Walking Simulator imply no planning or gameplay. But here you have to plan your route, manage your resource to get pass obstacle such as high cliff or abyss. But preparing for every situation will weight you down and may kill you because [high weight = easier to slip & higher damage when you fall down].

I would say it's the most realistic hiking simulator game out there in the market. In term of gameplay innovation, it can be said that Kojima somehow gamify hill climbing and make it fun. But if you want some high octane action or even basic combat system, I would say skip this game.

Unlikely in many open world games, there is no coin in DS. Nothing you do in the game is for money. You are helping people. The interest is in helping each other, because these people are incapable to do the Sam's job. This is one of the most amazing aspects of the game: everything has a purpose that ultimately culminates in something even more extraordinary.

Just like the other Kojima games, killing people in DS is a bad idea, and as bad as it may be, it is still nice to see how the game world changes if you go out killing everyone.

Also, DS gameplay is amazing, unique and addictive. As you progress, the gameplay gets more complex, making you think very carefully in what you will use.

The characters are striking and charismatic and DS story is one of the most incredible and complex this generation, and even the previous one.

The last time I was so intrigued by a game was back in 2013 with TLOU.

DS is just an extremely remarkable and humanized experience that I will never forget.

DS is one of the reason I love video games and I'm grateful to witness how they are getting evolved, specially in story telling and gameplay (it's amazing how much freedom you have in DS's world).

I hope other developers and developers to come make note of this. You can gamify anything. For the longest time, games have been about shooting and killing. This is includes open world games. But games can be about anything, especially open world games Death Stranding proves that.

Usually I separate the bad and the good in my user reviews. Death Stranding is such a unique entity that it is impossible to separate the bad from the good because the bad might be the good. The game begins like a slow “walking simulator”. The player character is a porter who carries goods on his back and makes his way through a barren post apocalyptic landscape while a song from a little known Icelandic group plays in the background. I can understand how gamers, including professional reviewers, would be slow to warm up to this game. My advice for new players is to keep going. Like Kojima’s Metal Gear series, Death Stranding keeps adding gameplay elements and tools for the player character to overcome obstacles. By the end, this game is as relentless as any. Basically, a game like Death Stranding is for finishers.

The premise of the game is connecting people. The player character does this by transporting goods from one location to the other. Traversing terrain is not trivial but also not impossible. You can be strategic and lay out a path with ladders and climbing ropes in the early game and larger structures in the later game. Or you can try to shove a vehicle over the rocks and through streams. Anyone familiar with the Halo series knows that you can eventually fit a vehicle into a space that it is not supposed to go. This is only a portion of the game. The other portion, if you want it to be, is kicking ass.

The game gives the player character a progressively more powerful arsenal to defeat enemies. You start by using fists to knock out humans and end by using assault rifles and rocket launchers. The game is very clear that human enemies are not to be killed. No spoilers except to say that dead bodies are difficult to deal with. That doesn’t stop the player character from ramming humans with vehicles or knocking them out with rubber bullets. You can be stealthy like Metal Gear Solid if you want to, and the multitude of options is what separates a magnificent game from a decent game.

An arsenal of weapons also becomes available to deal with ghosts, a.k.a. BTs. No spoilers here. The player confronts ghosts in the opening cutscene. You start out playing a survival horror game and finish in monster slaying game. At some point you have to realize that Death Stranding is a video game and the ghosts are NPCs that follow rules. You can rely on stealth like with humans or you can also go in guns blazing to clear an area. Preparation and strategy is all up to the player and I love it.

The real gem of this game is the connection with other players. Although you never see the other players in you game, right from the start, you will see structures built by other players. You will build a bridge and another player will use it. You will find cargo lost by other players that you can use or return to them. Some structures will be partially built by other players and finished by you. During an intense fight, an avatar of another player will toss you items to help you. I found myself growing more communal, and sending items I did not need to a shared locker instead of my private locker. I built bridges to make the game easier for new players. I was effusive with likes to other players. I would love to see more of this.

If I have any criticism of Death Stranding, its in the UI for handling inventory. After about 40 hours of play, I still have difficulty understanding when to hold the X button to go back to the menu or when hit the O button to cancel a selection. The inventory system in Death Stranding is a bit unique in that each item is a fully modeled object. You can see how the items load into the player character’s backpack. There is no magic bag of infinite volume and finite weight like Skyrim or a grid of boxes to fill like The Witcher. I merely wish there were a few tweaks to make the UI easier to understand.

All in all, Death Stranding is fully deserving of all of its game of the year awards. In many ways, it deserves better of players. Few games bust through genres and even fewer succeed. Consumers like familiar things. They want the same Call of Duty, the same actors in every movie, and the same sounding music. Every now and then, someone like Kohima comes along and gives us something different. Embrace it.

Full disclosure: I played Death Stranding on PS5. The load times were super fast like any game on PS5. Transitioning from safe houses to the open world may have been torture on the PS4. I wouldn’t know.

This game is NOT for everyone.

What is Death Stranding? It's a walking/delivery simulator set in a stunning sci-fi/horror open world with the expected Kojima-weirdness and a slow burn story. It doesn't sound fun. It's not an action game. There are elements of action, suspense, horror, sci-fi, etc but overall the game is about exploration and deliveries. That's it, essentially. You have to manage your carry loads, avoid or fight enemies across huge open world environments and make your deliveries.

The overarching goal is to "rebuild/reconnect America" and bring people back together, group hug and all that.

Basically, you spend lots of time walking, exploring and making deliveries. Other players can leave things in your world to be helpful (constructing roads, warning signs, ladders, climbing ropes, etc) but this is a single player game and a lonely one at that.

You will occasionally encounter Mules (nomad porters), other friendly NPC porters or BT's (ghosts basically), but the majority of your time is spent traveling, pathfinding and managing cargo.

It's oddly addicting and I really didn't think it would be. Then again, its the first unique game I've played in a very long time. It's very story/character focused and I love that.

**WARNING: This game is NOT for everyone**

Let me start off by saying that when I say that this game is not for everyone, I mean this game is not for casual gamers. If you are in to high intensity, fast paced action, you likely won't like this game. If you are into a straightforward story that's gets to the point and doesn't require any extra thought or any deep thinking, you will likely not like this game.

You play as Sam, a lone delivery man that delivers cargo of high importance to various destinations across a post-apocalyptic United States. Sounds boring on the surface but it's what you encounter and how you make your deliveries that make this game fun and rewarding.

First off, this game is not just delivering packages from point A to point B, it's deliver these packages of high importance while avoiding MULEs, who are essentially a group of outlaws that seek to steal your valuable cargo. Then there are the "BTs," I won't reveal what they are but they are a tougher enemy than the MULEs and are the reason for the post-apocalyptic world. Then there's the rain, again I won't spoil why but the rain degrades your cargo over time and leads to damaged cargo over time. Lastly, there is the terrain which can range from very easy to traverse to very difficult.

Now on to what ultimately makes this game great to play.

    1. Story: I'm not giving spoilers but it's a Kojima game, so you know the story is great.

    2. When you take on a "delivery" how you arrange your cargo on Sam's back and how much cargo you take will significantly impact how difficult your delivery will be. If you pile your cargo too high, or take too much cargo, it will effect Sam's balance, speed and stamina. So if you want to play it safe and take tons of cargo, such as taking a bunch of ladders and ropes for climbing up/down cliffs or walking over rivers and streams; then Sam will be carrying more weight thus making it harder to balance or move at a faster pace (such as sneaking past MULEs or BTs) which can cause you to fall and either injure Sam, damage your precious cargo or both.

    3. Combat/Stealth: Much like the Metal Gear Solid games, Death Stranding has a major stealth element to it. There will be instances where you will need to sneak up on MULEs and incapacitate them to steal back a piece of stolen cargo or whatever it is that you are tasked to do. As you progress through the game you will receive more and more weapons to help combat the MULEs and the BTs. I'm about 20 hours in and have only gotten the first weapons so my experience with them is limited but there are weapons that utilize Sam's blood (Story to find out why!) that if you overuse can lead to Sam losing more blood and can potentially lead to Sam dying, so you have to be wise as to how you use them and how much you use them.

Final Thoughts: Death Stranding is a great game. But, I can see why many people would't like it. It is not your typical action game, it's a slow paced strategy game (yes strategy is huge in this game) that takes time but feels very rewarding when you accomplish your mission. If you love a good story and like to think deeply about what is happening in a story (and not just the surface level of what is right in front of you) then this game is for you. If you are a more straightforward "bash in the door and charge in guns blazing" kind of person, then I can confidently say you will not like this game.

The characters especially Norman Reedus do a terrific job playing the lead roles. The atmosphere is where it shines and visually this game looks freaking amazing, probably one of the best on the ps4. I love how this game opened my eyes from the very first minute of playtime as I wasn't expecting this much complexity and attention to detail. The mechanics of the game is what makes it fun, as there are so many things you have to be aware of along your journey, especially the equipment and paths you take as they can vary dramatically depending on terrain and situation. Its not as simple as walking form point a to point b so it isn't boring at all, quite the contrary its very fun and has got me hooked. Finally a game that stands out and isn't the same old looter shooter kind of game. I have soaked numerous hours into the game already.

after putting almost 20 hours into this thing, still on chapter 2, (the very beginning of the game basically) I can say with 100% faith that a very large majority of people hating on it havnt played it much, if at all.

"interactive movie" ha.. not even close.. you obviously have NOT played the game. "movie" has been maybe, if even, 5% of my game time, again, on chp 2. Any repetitive cutscene can be sklipped instantly.

"boring" im assuming you think using an anolog stick while spamming R2 or Left Mouse to click on pixels for hours is intriguing game design...

any complaint about the story/gameplay.. go back to Mr Man Mc Muscles, kill everyone and everything for the 100th time with "cool and crazy action set pieces," get your bad guy. your INTENSE Hollywood ending.. and move on to the next game just like it.

Hell, even MGS fanbois... go back to your tranq gun, derp. best gameplay ever... -_-

yes there is more to MGS than just tranqing everything in site.. but not really. Its all optional/have fun with it kinda stuff for the most part. All the crazy stuff you can do in DS is pretty much 100% necessity.. and honestly that's one of the coolest things about this game. You really do HAVE to take advantage of your options if you want to make it anywhere in the game.

That's how most people here sound, complaining that the game is "boring" (I doubt most people have even bought the game here). I urge EVERYONE CONSIDERING BUYING THE GAME WATCH THE GAMEPLAY ORIGINALLY POSTED BY KOJIMA, it shows you what the game is. Apparently Walking Sims have combat, vehicles, weapons and some of the best cinematics to date.

Yes, there are a lot of times where you will just walk from point a to point b but the gameplay is constantly changing and giving you new things to try out. As I said before THE GAME HAS VEHICLES, don't wanna walk constantly? Okay well actually play more than 2 hours of the game and you'll get a bike and then soon after that you can make your own bikes with seemingly more vehicles later on, or heck just steal a truck.

Yes there are also a lot of cutscenes, probably the first 2 hours there is at least 1 hour of cutscenes but once the game has finished setting the tone of the story you get free reign and the cutscenes do begin to be rarer, but the story is fantastic anyway.

Yes the movement to some can seem tedious, I love it, the one thing missing from most open world games are a true feeling of actually exploring, Sam will react to various types of terrain differently and you have to adapt and climb your way through the landscape. What I originally expected was that Sam would control like in Horizon considering it's the same engine but no it's a completely unique system, to some a chore but to me an amazing improvement, it adds a new found challenge to exploration that just isn't there with other games.

I give the game a 10, it's my GOTY without a doubt. I've been playing it for almost 11 hours straight and I have loved every second of it. (My only Con is that Kojima decided that the Music Player should only be usable in the Private Room??? Listening to music and exploring is much more fun so put some of your own music if the game has none currently playing)

You're in for a wild time if you think the game is just going to LET you have those. Just knowing the route won't get you there faster or safer. For that, you're going to need to build the infrastructure to get you there. Ladders and climbing ropes are the start, but the magic in the gameplay is when you begin collaborating with faceless and nearly anonymous 'other players' to create networks of paths, bridges, routes, and warnings that will make a once tedious journey into an effortless one.

It's not a game for everyone, but for what it is, it's the top of its class. 10/10 and a solid gift or recommendation for someone who can handle a slower pace.

The game has divided critics and gamers alike but the most important aspect is that there IS NO GAME like it. It's unique, with all the good and bad elements that comes with being unique. I've spent around 55 hours with this game and absolutely loved it, even though I had some reservations before playing.

GAMEPLAY: the main aspect of the game is making a planned delivery from point A to B. You need planning ahead of your journey (resource management, cargo distribution on yourself for balance and ease of traversing, terrain study so that you can be prepared with climbing anchors or ladders or vehicles), you can study the weather to find out where you will be met with timefall and probably BTs (you can scan the map and you get information about areas with rain and information about the direction of the wind to try and predict where the rain is heading to), you can choose a vehicle if the terrain permits the use of one (either a bike for hard terrain, a truck for less difficult terrain and if you have a huge cargo, a floating carrier that connects itself to you if you want to go stealthy and on foot), you can choose which and how many weapons to take (you have pistols, rifles, shotguns, bola gun for stealth approach, grenade launchers, grenades, stun grenades, smoke grenades and each of them has different types of ammo for different situations, some of them are non-lethal for human enemies in order to prevent the creation of new BTs, others have hematic rounds made with Sam's blood in order to damage the BTs and the BT bosses). On your way from point A to B you might need to improvise, you need to traverse diffcult terrain, you need to use stealth to dodge human enemies or BTs, you might need to fight humans or BTs and BT bosses (fantastic design with Lovecraftian influences), you can build different constructions that can help you or other players traverse (bridges, energy generators, safe houses, zip lines)

STORY : one of the most unique universes and lore I've seen in a while, with Lovecraftian influences, lots of twists, fantastic actors, awesome soundtrack and story moments

The gameplay aspect is unique and does not revolve around classic mechanics and people unfortunately like to play games with classic gameplay. Most hate that you have to walk a lot, which is true and they have the right to hate that gameplay aspect, but review bombing this game with a 0 just because the game is not for them is simply put stupid. It's like blaming a game like Journey for not having combat, or blaming Borderlands 3 for having a lot of guns and rpg statistics to study. Death Stranding is a niche game, reviews have been released a week before the official game release, gameplay demos presented everything that you can do in game, this is the game and it's fantastic IF you like this gameplay style and story. Hating on a game just because it's not what you hoped is childish but it's fine either way. Financially the game will perform well and the kids thinking it's alright to rate a 0 for this game could easily go play something else with more instant gratification (maybe Uncharted 4) or other easier to grasp games so that they won't be forced to think too much.

This is the best AAA game I've played since Witcher 3 and one of my favourite games all time (27 years of gaming), top 15, up there with Planescape Torment and Disco Elysium and Witcher 3 and Morrowind and Deus Ex and Dark Souls/Bloodborne/Sekiro and Nier Automata and The Last of Us and a few others. This game deserves a spot up there with the big ones.

The graphics are something else, shaper, good AA, and beautiful... some of the best I played this gem... I can't imagine how it looks in Pro with HDR.

The controls are responsibles and the holds buttons works way better than I thought... in fact they are really to get. I played 2 chapters so the story is at begining but it feels Kojima and that is great. I did pretty few deliveries but

I did pretty few deliveries but I like it... you need to explore the map to find them and manege to not damage them... the sense of exploration is good and the delivery management interesting... it is engaging too, I took over 1 hour to do the Prologue delivering because I was entertained in find others delivering instead to rush the main pack delivery... it is just fun to do that because mountains makes the exploration very very addictive.

Right now I'm loving it... I can't wait to play more tomorrow after work... it is 4am right now here... I played two hours without realize... I repeated the Prologue twice because I didn't want to damage the delivery packs.

Very great atmosphere, intriguing story. Gameplay starts out SUPER SLOW, that's why you see all the 0/10s, they couldn't take a very slow start for 3 hours. At about chapter 3 you get all the cool **** and gameplay goes from 5/10 to 10/10.

Metacritic needs to do something about review bombers. They have no life so go out of their way to try to upset others.

You can tell who here has played the game for more than 1 hour and who hasn't (if at all). Not everyone will like this game for sure, but it's not a 0 and there's actually a lot of fun to be had with the game.

You'd know if you actually played it.

Death stranding is a fantastical game.

If you're looking for another Fortnight/COD or Skyrim, this will probably not be the game for you. If you believe that a "Good Game" has to have some sort of elements incorporated into it to be enjoyable, then this is not the game for you. Truth is, a game can be about literally anything and still provide entertainment value or enjoyability.

If you believe that a "Good Game" has to have some sort of elements incorporated into it to be enjoyable, then this is not the game for you.

Truth is, a game can be about literally anything and still provide entertainment value or enjoyability. If that is what you care about, then this is something you should check out.

Death stranding is rich with creativity in the form of its open world. Every journey that you take is unique and will create its own story. There will be times where it will feel unbearable and unforgiving, there will be times when you feel like accomplished and rewarded.

Situations are unique and dynamic. Using your time optimally and planning ahead will always yield the best rewards. Every mission presents its own set of challenges, and planning your equipment will also put you in advantageous positions.

As you progress, you will unlock more tools and equipment or even upgrades to your existing equipment, making your travelling easier.

As you explore you will find player-made structures that may or may not help you. Or perhaps, you can set down something of your own to help others or yourself. There is a sense of being alone, but also not alone.

You can't see them, but you know other people are going on the same journey, or travelling the same path.

There are many mechanics in play here, and the gameplay is engaging. If you expect to be able to throw everything you need and more on and push the analog stick in one direction expecting that to just be it, you're dead wrong.

Navigating the terrain requires attention on both the macro and micro scale if you will. Sometimes you'll need to plot your journey because there is a mountainous region or some kind of body of water. And while you're doing that, you need to pay attention where you're walking, avoiding uneven terrain or things that can trip you up whilst keeping your cargo balanced keeps you on your toes.

While this is the core element of the gameplay it is not the only one, as there will be times when you need to engage hostile enemies, or when you have to slowly sneak past a BT field to avoid being killed.

The harshest criticisms come from its gameplay, and I can assure you, it is very different from what you are used to, but it's great. Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelson, Troy baker, Guillermo del Toro, deliver some of the most memorable performances, and that is just off the top of my head.

The story is great and rich, teeming with spectacular performances from its actors. And you will never find such a fantastic casting from anywhere else.

Everything from character designs to world and scenic imagery packs a creative power punch of rich imagination.

The game will make you feel things if you let it.

You will feel enthusiastic, you will feel frustrated, you will feel accomplished, and sometimes, you'll feel heart-wrenching sadness. Some times I've found myself meditating on a mountain s on events that happened in the game.

With all that being said, I do have a few criticisms myself but nothing that would reduce my opinion as a whole of the game.

When you progress far enough, the game does get a bit easier. I think that maybe if there was a bit more emphasis on survival, perhaps making sustenance more difficult, or weapons much weaker would really crank up the intensity.

There is an upgrade later that allows you to stealth kill the BTs, I think that should be removed entirely because it made BT encounters trivial once you got the hang of it.

I was hoping for more survival elements, like what we've seen before in Kojima's earlier works, such as MGS3 having to hunt for food and treating your own injuries in the field would have added another layer of challenge.

I do understand that the PS4's hardware is limited so there may have been something missing in terms of difficulty here. Kojima, please do not be afraid to challenge your players more.

Overall though, this is a must-play in my humble opinion. Although it's great to connect with others and hear opinions there is something to be said as to experiencing something for yourself and formulating your own opinion.

This is not at all a game for people who can't think for themselves and need a game to be defined if it's good or bad for them. This is a game that breaks out of those moulds and is a refreshing breath of fresh air that this industry needs.

Also, good job Kojima. Thank you for your hard work, and showing us that you do not to be under the umbrella of a giant corporation to be successful and make your passions your work.

I bought this game clearly knowing it's a delivery sim and I am not disappointed. In fact, I am surprised. Like most delivery sims, they are very loopy (do a task over and over and progress to unlock things to make that task easier and more enjoyable). It has this with a bonus of beautiful cutscenes that I am always looking forward to in between. If you are a fan of simulators (Weedshop 2, Truck simulators, fishing sims) you will love this game. If call of duty is more your style or games that require constant stress and excitement, this game is probably not for you. I have read though a lot of the negative reviews and its almost like these people didn't even play the game. The way they explain the detail of the gameplay is like they basically watched a trailer and decided they didn't like it and just left a negative review despite playing the game just for spite. I wouldn't even be surprised if a certain company left a lot of negative reviews to make them not look bad (as PR for their next metal gear that will probably be **** after the Kojima departure. Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it. This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
