    THIS GAME IS MORE THEN A MASTERPIECE AND I GUESS PEOPLE CANT SEE THAT. Yeah it's slow but it's not boring and for the people who didn't get past 20 hours I really fell bad for you because your missing out. It's way better then a 6.3 and that score just pisses me off.

    From the begining I realized that this game not for everyone. There's no shooting, action and some kind of activity gameplay. All you need to do - go through rivers, climbing up mountains, enjoy landscape and listen wonderful music. Sometimes you meet enemies who pose no threat even on high difficulty. But specifically for me it's not a problem, I adore games like this. A lot of cutscenesFrom the begining I realized that this game not for everyone.     Es mucho mejor de lo que esperaba, sin duda. Pero obviamente no es para casuals.

    Si eres casual, le pondrás mala nota a este juego, o si tu nicho son los FIFA, por muy bueno que sea el God of War, no te va a gustar. Esto es la misma historia de siempre.

    No me gusta nada FIFA, y no voy a ponerle un 1, por que simplemente no me guste.

    This game isn't for everyone. I understand the complaints people have about it. But after investing some 80+ hours into it, I have to agree it's a very unusual experience worth the journey.

    CallofDutyboyz are disappointed.

    Both gameplay and story are extremly addictive. Sure, it strongly depends on what kind of man you are, but for me personally (as well as for my wife) the game is an absolute masterpiece. The only possible reason for your potential disappointment are wrong expectations.

    It's a movie itself in a variety of genres and the " actors" are doing their part phenomenally.
    If you don't give it a solid chance from the start you can easily be pushed away and that will probably be the case with a lot of people, simply because their expectations are way off the concept of this form of digital art. I've read some of the reviews and can easily say that most of the so called jurnos didn't even finish the game before giving the game a mediocre score, based clearly on some of the game's more irritating gameplay feats. Dont mind them!
    If you are up for something new, something different, something that will make you lose an hour simply trekking a mountain carrying a box of sperm samples and pizza just to get a tiny piece of the story and the right to manufacture a levitating cargo holder that can be used as a skateboard - then this one of a kind art game is for you.    … Expand

    Awesome game, got platinum trophy. Great gameplay, genius players interactions system. Beautiful graphics, animations and world overall. mind blowing story, fantastic music, varied characters. overall well composed masterpiece. Whoever calls it a "walking sim" obviously didn't play the game and did not engage. Good job Kojima! (i'm not a fan boy)

    Everything i hoped for and more! I've been a fan of this game since it was announced. The gameplay is the perfect mixture of complex and yet simple. This game is for a certain type players its not your average action game and its not your average fetch quest game either. Its the new genre strand.

    A game for mature players that dont have to shoot something every 10 seconds to enjoy a videogame. Excellent in almost every way and is just let down by lack of depth to mission requirements and no skill tree or way to spend xp(likes) so getting xp is pointless. That said the gameplay is a excellent mix of exploration, inventory management strategy and a risk vs reward terrain traversalA game for mature players that dont have to shoot something every 10 seconds to enjoy a videogame. Excellent in almost every way and is just let down by lack of depth to mission requirements and no skill tree or way to spend xp(likes) so getting xp is pointless. That said the gameplay is a excellent mix of exploration, inventory management strategy and a risk vs reward terrain traversal game loop. Also dark souls style hint sharing with ability to share building and items adds a community feel to the game. Only gripes about it are that it becomes a bit repetitive in the last half of the game and its difficulty curve is weird. It starts off really difficult and then gets easier as it goes on in large sections of the game and you dont really have a need for your cool new toys by the last half of the game except for some excellent mountain missions. Also no replay value because once you have explored the map there is no point playing anymore, i found myself only doing story missions and no side ones as I just wanted to go to the next area. 8.5/10 but on here a ten to counteract the zero bombs. Deserves a quick playthrough by all serious gamers as its very unique and the world is very immersive.… Expand

    Good game. I'm pretty sure most 0s or 1s or whatever didn't even play it. You can dislike the game. But to say anything is fundamentally wrong or broken with it is a straight up lie, or again they didn't play it. Everything works as it's supposed to. It's never felt "wonky" to me. In fact Sam's movement is incredibly intuitive and responsive. The gameplay loop is not one everyone willGood game. I'm pretty sure most 0s or 1s or whatever didn't even play it. The segments with BTs are tense and its genuinely scary when you mess up and one starts following you around. No, you probably wont sir in this game. But the punishment for death is huge. The real punishment of messing up anyway, is not your health reaching 0, it's your cargo getting damaged, or you having to go back to pick up cargo that got dropped in whatever accident you had. The game is an absolute gem. And I love every second of it. No, it's not a walking simulator and anyone who says it is, is an absolute hack… Expand

    Um jogo que tenta uma proposta diferente nesse " mar" que nos temos apenas de Cod, Gta, e BF, eu realmente adorei a experiência, e fiquei bem satisfeito por jogar algo que seja fora dos padrões de hoje em dia.     lo malo: el relleno que le metieron en las primeras horas, es insoportable la inteligencia artificial de los NPC es muy pobre, los jefes finales tienen mucha vida y esta disparando por 20 min sin haber cambio de dificultad o mecanica quita mucho la diversión que me empezó a desesperarme (los ultimos 3 bosses),los EV fueron buenos cuando era en áreas cerradas como el primero pero ya ala mitad encuentras su truco y ya no es un problema muy desaprovechado solo están para que no uses vehículos. casi todos lo malo son cosas para alagar mas el juego    … Expand

I’m so relieved to see AAA developers with huge budgets who want to make these kinds of contemplative, lonely and slow-paced games. This is what happens when one person is given complete oversight over something as expansive as this: yeah, there's clumsy metaphors, corny dialogue and some bizarre mechanics but it's *complete* in a way that almost no other release is. Its themes, messaging and gameplay continuity are so constantly with you, and you're consistently being reminded of them without it getting old.

    I'd just say: don’t impulse-buy this because it’s a Kojima title and you're looking for MGS, you’ll be disappointed like so many on this website. Look into it properly and buy it for the game that it is.    … Expand

    This game seems to me a real madness !!
    It is incredible, no doubt a true work of Hideo Kojima.
    I think that if you have many cinematics, but never get bored and walking does not feel empty because you appreciate the landscape and loneliness.
    It reminds me a lot of feeling when playing Shadow of the Colossus

Death Stranding breaks the mold of a “normal” game and introduces a new genre that no one asks for but we all need to experience. Death Stranding is like an abstract painting, full of metaphors and symbols depicting politics, religion and the power of human connection. It was a nice change of pace from all of the popular Shooter game. I enjoyed exploring its gorgeous landscapes when doing missions while listening to the carefully thought out soundtrack. I strong believe that Death Stranding may not be for everyone, but this is no doubt a GOTY contender. Acting performance, graphics, soundtrack, story and dialog all contributed for an emotional ending.    … Expand

    I have found the ‘flame-war’ between those that love Death Stranding and those that don’t pretty illuminating about today’s society, particularly attention spans. Of all the ‘haters’, almost all have done little more than dabble with Kojima’s opus... some haven’t even played it! To be fair, there are some who have played through it and still didn’t enjoy it but that is true in allI have found the ‘flame-war’ between those that love Death Stranding and those that don’t pretty illuminating about today’s society, particularly attention spans. Of all the ‘haters’, almost all have done little more than dabble with Kojima’s opus... some haven’t even played it! To be fair, there are some who have played through it and still didn’t enjoy it but that is true in all entertainment. For instance, my missus hates Breaking Bad... one of the best examples of television entertainment of all time and there are some people out there who have struggled through the debatably slow first season and still don’t enjoy it. Most of Breaking Bad’s detractors don’t get past episode 3 though and I’d imagine that it is a similar scenario with Death Stranding and it’s detractors.

    I’m 50 hours in and am enjoying it immensely. I have struggled to convey ‘why’ it is enjoyable to my friends and colleagues though, as they can not seem to get past the (extremely) basic premise that it’s just a fetch-quest walking simulator. Well Breaking Bad is ‘basically’ just a story about a teacher who gets cancer... but anyone who has watched Breaking Bad will know it is far more than that. And so it goes with Death Stranding.

    If you have played The Last of Us and gotten to the famous Giraffe moment, you’ll know how powerful a moment within gaming can be that doesn’t actually involves any particular gaming technique of the player. You basically just guide your player through a door using the left analogue stick with no inherent danger or drama... but after a notorious slog through dark and infested corridors and rooms you are eventually greeted with an example of beauty. I think about this moment a lot when playing Death Stranding. Kojima has managed to include a fair few moments here that illicit similar emotional punches (all directed beautifully so it ‘feels’ like a moment only you would have stumbled upon). death Stranding then goes one better than the Giraffe-moment of The Last of Us by offering so much versatility in how you tackle the same journey/slog moving forwards. The game teaches you how hard a journey can be the first time you make it and then the next time you need to travel in that direction it presents you with a variety of tools to use to make what was once a 3 hour slog of endurance a 2 minute breeze... and the personal satisfaction you gain from creating your own solution is surprisingly real.

    On top of the above, the game is visually stunning! Up there with, if not succeeding God of War as the best-looking game I have played. The sound track is up there with, if not succeeding Nier: Automata as the best sounding game I have played. The ‘social’ network is more than a novel spin on Dark Souls messaging service... I have lost count of the times another player has helped me in my journey and I like to think I have done the same (my ‘likes’ counter suggests that I have... which is also incredibly gratifying). The story, presentation, acting etc is all top-drawer.

    If you are a fan of gaming as a medium of presenting entertainment (rather than gaming to kill 15 minutes) you will be doing yourself a disservice to listen to the naysayers out there about Death Stranding. It has to be experienced and given time to breath to fully appreciate and if you do so I’d imagine it will be worth most ‘gamers’ time.    … Expand

    For all the other people- you must play this. If you are in to things like Blade Runner movies or deep indy, european movies... This game will be better than that :) And I mean it. Oh, man(and ladies) it was that good.

    To be fair, there was moments in the game where it required some patience. And I see why people would call it Fedex simulator, but that was just a part of mind blowingly amassing journey.

    This game is an unforgettable experience, sadly, not for all the peoples to be revealed.    … Expand

    This is truly a unique game. Never seen anything like it. Stunningly beautiful, beautifully acted with and intriguing story. It's my kind of narrative and I understand it might not for everyone. I usually like shooters but sometimes a change is good too, and oh boy, the gameplay IS a change. Didn't know walking is that challenging. This is worth the full price in my opinion.

    The game is simply a masterpiece with a lot of effort put into it. Currently 52 hours into it (according to my save file) but the only thing I did not feel was the time passing. Once you are in, you'll never get enough of it. Thank you Kojima.

    Kojimas masterful storytelling aside I understand the gameplay may not be for everyone but by the time the credits rolled I was thoroughly converted. The gameplay mechanics are strangely addictive and I have had hours of fun. The story is beautiful and bought me to tears and I recommend putting the time in.

    Hideo Kojima create a masterpiece with Death Stranding. Beautifully made, with a great soundrack, an outstanding world and clever gameplay. This game ain't for everybody. If you are looking after a shooter (Call of Duty, etc.), you won't be happy here. Death Stranding is about exploring and connecting people.
    After playing it for over 140 hours all I can say is: It's the Game of the Year 2019.

    Don't listen to any of those "red" reviews, none of them actually played this game till the end. This game is more like Tarantino movies: deep dialogues, deep music, deep story, deep character development. So just play it, feel it and you wont regret it.

For someone who likes to get lost in sci-fi worlds and is no rush to get out of them. And also for someone who are bored with the old game genres.

    If you are asking who is definitely NOT a target audience for this game, then here is the answer: Definitely not for casual gamers, not for someone who barely knows how to play some simple game like Call of Duty or World of Warcraft, or FIFA and other simple (yet fun) games. This game is not for people who can't find at least 2 full hours for the play session. It is also not for the inpatient players, because it takes several hours until you understand the true size and glory of this game. It is not for people who hate philosophy and it is definitely not for people who hate humanity, who keep anger in their heart and who want to hurt others (this game is not about killing people, sorry).

    I will say it straight away: this game is 9,5 out of 10 for me, but since there are some many hateful people here destroying this game's honest value and the spirit of message that was written into the game, I'm giving it 10, to fight back these unfair attacks.

    Let me say something about the feeling from the game. I played through the whole campaign and it took me 71 hours to beat. I played on hard difficulty ( I believe this is the true difficulty it was meant to be played ). So why did it take me so long? Well, because I actually do care about the story, and I watch the cinematics, I try to understand the meaning behind it all. I rush to read every new Journal entry once I get it unlocked. I talk to side quest NPCs and hear out their stories. By the way, I have so many side quests left, that it will probably take me 50 hours more to finish the platinum trophy.

    So what did I get from playing Death Stranding? It's hard to describe. I definitely saw a lot of comparisons and allusions to our today's world (and all the **** that are currently happening) and to our history. From the very beginning Kojima serves you the message of this game on a silver plate and it will not change during the gameplay. In terms of the underlying message, there is nothing hidden, and I find it okay. The story of the game itself hides a lot of secrets and unexpected turns and it is fascinating how masterfully Kojima managed to finish the game and explain all the symbolism, metaphors and secrets during the massively-long ending sequence (again, this is not a game for inpatient players).

    I don't want to spoil anything story-wise. The people who have a capacity in their mind and heart to appreciate this masterpiece will play and experience it for themselves. Prepare for the ride.

    Gameplay itself? WOW!!! I mean literally I loved it, I never played something quite like this. Kojima really did created a new genre. I had so much fun planning and executing my deliveries, trying to get the best grades for it. I loved how the online players' creations helped me dozens of times to survive or deliver my cargo. The community aspect of this game is just amazing. And the versatility of how to solve navigating the difficult paths throughout this unforgiving world made me sit and think and analyse for just the right amount of time to feel like it is not overly hard or boring.

    The only things I found negative about this game: you cannot save game during combat or while in vehicle. Some of the repeating cutscenes like being in safe house can be annoying even when skipping is possible. And riding bikes and trucks on uneven terrain is kind of glitchy.
    Outside of this, I can see nothing problematic. The way the menu and cargo setup is created is actually good. You just have to have a little bit of brain to use it and learn it.

    Regarding being bored, like so many other critics here say... I was never bored, never ever. I was only lost in this world. And that is what I wanted. Kojima delivered what I expected, and much much more.

    Don't be so quick to write hateful notes on this game before you really play at least 20 hours and see where the author really goes with the story and the gradually expanding gameplay. Death Stranding is a powerful experience for seasoned video game players and people who can appreciate being lost in a massive and beautifully crafted world.    … Expand

    I’ve played 11 hours so far and I can say without a doubt this is the most unique gaming experience ever. The story is amazing. And the delivery gameplay is fun especially when you enter a MULE camp and slap all of them up with their own cargo you stole from them. I’m in love!

How he could take something so simple and make it so incredibly compelling is flat out stunning. I was on the fence for the first 5 hours or so, but then everything really starts to open up. Overall, this game was a wild ride, and frankly, if you didn't like it, it's because you have exactly zero taste. Go play some thoughtless, unoriginal cannon fodder tripe like CoD or Destiny, maybe go grab yourself yet another EA or Bethesda game, because you're simply too ignorant to play anything except what you're told is "cool" by Kotaku or IGN.     At the beginning I was pretty septic about the game after reading the reviews but I decided to jump in. LET ME TELL you that this has been the best choice I ever made. This game is fantastic. On paper the concept seems boring or dull but when you are in the game there is a kind of inexplicable magic at play that makes you enjoy this fantastic gameplay. I find it sad that some users will give a very negative score when they only played 4 hours and did not really experience that game. The game moves at a slower pace, and this pace made the game more rewarding and immersive than nearly every game I've played recently. The opening hours are very cinematic heavy, and you will feel like your play is but a footnote for the first two. But those cinematics drew me in with their eerie mystery, and I appreciated how the gameplay matched their tone. I recommend keeping an open mind and letting yourself sink into Kojima's headtrip. You won't be disappointed. Death Stranding excels at exploring wide ranges of emotions with its often perilous and then often oddly idyllic scenarios: fear gives way to hope, disconnectedness is replaced with togetherness, frailty soon transforms into empowerment. You will spend time carefully navigating jaw-droppingly beautiful landscapes. The size of the world will weigh on you, and you will feel genuine relief and empowerment when you gain new ways of traversing environments and overcoming the threats you face. The negative reviews are clearly based on the opening two chapters, and I completely agree that players will do a lot of listening, watching, and walking for the first few hours. But I found these hours especially emotional and beautiful, and I was intrigued by how this game just doesn't feel like other games. I think the negative reviews overlook how integral the early game's slow pace and terrifying world are to the game's impressive narrative arc and the amazingly crafted moments that you experience when you later survive particularly harrowing situations. It is there--when a dark corner of the world throws a seemingly impossible challenge your way, and escaping that corner reveals a beautiful landscape with new sights, sounds, and genuine feelings of relief--that this game is such a massive success. Few games, if any, excel like Death Stranding does at delivering the truly significant emotional moments that I think make gaming such a special medium. If you are looking for something deeper, odder, more unique, and more beautiful than your typical gaming fodder, I heartily recommend Death Stranding.… Expand

The story is intriguing that can keep you on the edge on your seat, it's what pushed me to keep going to the next cutscene. The gameplay is tight and advanced, it even helps me relax when it's slow paced.     Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it.     This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

    Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
