Don't let the great review scores fool you. This game was in no way created to run on a PS4. I like story-driven games, which leaves a mark by the time you're done with it. If these are the games that are praised nowadays for a story, well...

All in all, an average Remedy game. Not at all GOTY or anything.

The game seems to be broken. I was looking half an hour for getting an elevator to work. After giving up and trying again a few hours later, I realized that the elevator was not activated because an enemy did not spawn.

Well, this game is a mediocore, boring, repetitive scam. You are just wondering around a huge office building, shooting up weird people, reading nonsence notes and documents, listening to npc's uninteresting stories... It's just dull "mysterious" nonsense with fancy raytracing eyecandy graphics.

The whole game uses a metroidvania style, where you return to earlier zones, unlocking new parts of them. This is accomplished through security card levels and quests rather than items, but, it's still a good way of navigating the environment.

The story itself is well told and more interesting than most games these days. It doesn't hold your hand and explain things. However, if you listen to the dialogue, and talk to the NPCs you'll piece it together. If you are really invested, there's plenty of additional material to find in the game and read.

The only real weakness for me is that enemy variety does get a bit repetitive after a while.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I made an account just for this game.

    Pros:
-Graphics - The game looks great.
-Environmental design - The environments are unique and well thought out. It would make for a cool walking simulator.

    Cons:
-Story - The game feels like a cool exploration game that somebody tacked a story onto.
-Characters - Ahti is the only good character. All the other characters just get an eye roll.
-Checkpoints - The checkpoint system is really annoying, kicking you back to the last control point that you went to. This is especially annoying when dealing with difficult battles where you will die and need to run for 3 solid minutes to get back to where you died.
-Combat - Combat is either insultingly easy or pointlessly frustrating. This comes down to a combination of the energy cooldown, gun reloading, inability to regen health, and the abilities/AI of the enemies. Pair that with the checkpoint system, and a few battles might make you decide that you have better ways to spend your time than running from checkpoint to battle, getting hit by one homing missile, then flailing around trying to pick up health from enemies while simultaneously getting one-shotted by another homing missile... And then having to run back from the checkpoint to repeat it until you are lucky enough to not die.
-Health - You have to pick up health from enemies that you have damaged. It is easy to get pinned-down in battles with effectively no health, and there is no realistic way to heal. So you just have to die. Great. In a game full of abilities and sci-fi stuff, would it be too much to ask for a regen ability? Throw me a frickin' bone here!
-Abilities - The shield ability is useless. With the shield active, you can't use your pistol or other abilities. It is not even a good shield. You still take damage with it active... Why? Probably just to annoy the player like everything else in this game. The dodge ability is only useful for skipping fights to make your long, arduous journey from a checkpoint back to where you died. It is also marginally effective for dodging homing missiles, but 50% of the time there is nowhere to dodge, or you get hit regardless. The throw ability is good. The seize ability might be useful, but the only time you can really use it without getting demolished in the meantime is during easy fights where you don't really need it anyway.

The only reason to play this game is to explore the environment. The mediocre story and completely unlikable characters combined with the inconsistent combat just makes this feel like some kind of sight-seeing tour where somebody slaps you in the face every 15 minutes. At some point you decide it's a better use of your time to find literally anything else to do.

In summary, sorting laundry is a more interesting and entertaining experience than playing this game all the way through.

The weird and interesting in Control is overshadowed by extremely frustrating and dull combat. There seems to be a need in Remedy games to stuff them with enemies to shoot at - this has ruined this game this time. I would have much preferred this is there was a lot less repetitive combat and more of the weird!

This game is absolutely amazing! One of the best Jedi games ever made. Just the destruction alone is hours of fun. Not to mention how crazy the story is along with the well spoken dialog, tons of hidden backstory you can find littered all throughout the game. And did I mention you're basically a Jedi with a gun? Hands down my game of 2019. 10/10!

I want to give this game a much higher rating. It has nice gameplay and a very compelling story. It's seriously let down by textures loading in at severely low resolution making things like like an N64 eta game at times. This is inexcusable considering how long the game has been out now. It should have been patched very soon after launch.

A bad game with crude mechanics. The story of the SCP foundation was thrown out, replaced by a surrogate.
Backtracking, grinding, terrible characteristics pumping, instant respawn, only two guns in one moment (although the plot is all one gun) - to do so is an indelible disgrace for a company with a reputation for innovators.

The worst problem with the game objectively is the technical performance. The frame rate often slows to a literal crawl, making combat frustrating and difficult. But even outside of hectic scenes, the frame stutter is noticeable. As in, EVERY time you come out of the main menu, the game takes a few seconds to stabilize. This severely impacts gameplay, as you're often killed by attacks that seemingly came out of nowhere.

Another thing is just a general sloppiness to presentation. Menus are overly convoluted and dense. Firing at an enemy often obscures said enemy. The map is almost entirely useless. All these may sound like nitpicks, but it's enough to turn what was initially a fun sense of being lost to a frustrating inability to navigate the world in multiple aspects.

I really loved the somewhat weird and mysterious story, the absolutely stunning art direction, the run and gun mechanics that they managed to nail almost to perfection, the astonishing sound design and that Remedy vibe. What I absolutely did not enjoy was this artificial and forced difficulty. I'm talking checkpoints mostly.. i get that it's a nod to Souls-like games, but not everyone (far from that) likes or enjoys those games. I certainly don't. More than that, I don't have time to play the same challenge a hundred times, I only have a few hours after works to enjoy anything and I speak for all of us thirty-somethings out there. It makes me very angry at myself and the game to the extent that I'm about to drop it..which is unfortunate because there's a lot to love. I appreciate them making the main storyline fairly normal in difficulty, amount of backtracking and...dying. But the side missions/challenges are something. I still have three unfinished one just because even after giving them 20-30 tries I can't do it. It breaks my heart. All it takes is adding a difficulty level options. Call it "for **** or whatever, I don't care, it will make the experience so much better for many of us non-hardcore players. I will forgive the budget-level of cutscenes, oftentimes terrible framerates (I understand base PS4 is at the end of its life) and claustrophobic environments that can get boring soon. Really hoping something like that will get introduced in the upcoming dlcs. Thanks Remedy for doing games your way. Expand

Control is the video game equivalent of the X-Files, Warehouse 13, and the SCP files. Made by Remedy Entertainment, the studio behind Max Payne and Alan Wake, brings a world of conspiracy and mystery to life in their newest outing. Control is a 3rd person action/adventure game that leans HEAVILY on lore developed through written files and audio/video recordings to life. You do not by any means have to read all of the files you come across, but the world of the game makes much more sense if you do.
At its core, the game moves you through much of the The Oldest House, a paranaturally clandestine facility housing the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC). You use different weapon types and paranatural abilities to dispatch a variety of enemies who impede your progress. As you go you encounter new and strange objects and phenomena. There are a number of optional side missions which can be tackled which boost your abilities or give you new ones. My one real gripe with the game is that some of the side missions can feel fetch questy and rely a little too much on back tracking to areas you’ve already been through.
The gameplay is solid, but this title really shines in its narrative. Anyone who disliked this game was probably looking for a run-n-gun game and didn’t bother to dive into the rich lore. Though, the main story is still solid without having to read through everything.
Again, this is a MUST play for anyone who is a big fan of media like Warehouse 13, the X-Files, or SCP.

I wasn't a big fan of Remedy's Quantum break but loved the combat. Well this game for the most part improves on the problems I had with Quantum break and has a pretty satisfying ending which I can't wait to see with what they do with the DLC season coming up.

The strongest part of this game is three things the combat, atmosphere and immersion. The physics when shooting your weapon or using your abilities is amazing and adds to the already impressive combat which is the thing that kept me coming back for more. The atmosphere is amazing I loved it, this may of been my favorite thing about the game to be fair, this game must be experience with the head set or surround system on. I was pretty immersed throughout the game and that's why I enjoyed it as well, I couldn't put my remote down.

I also loved the bosses and the lore as well, the only problem with the bosses though are that there aren't enough, I believe that there is about 8 bosses and 5 of them are in side missions which is a shame. There isn't even really a boss in the story after the 5th mission which was pretty sad. There is a lot of things to collect to fill in the blanks and that adds to the lore as this game is pretty cryptic thankfully, this adds a more realistic touch to the game which was appreciated.

Exploration is also rewarded which is enjoyable but isn't my favorite thing in this game to do.

The problem in this game for me is mostly the side quests. The side quest are quite tedious being practically fetch quests (apart from the boss fight missions) which is boring and quite generic, I completed them all and didn't find much fun out of them. The bureau alerts are random (i think) and they spawn few and far between and they can be failed, this sucks for trophy collectors as sometimes it can take up to two hours to get one. The board contermeasures as well give you mods (which can be useful) but I found myself bored doing them after they get more difficult the harder the enemies are to find which just made it boring and that's when I found myself putting down the remote and stop playing until the DLC releases.

This game is amazing but the fetch quest side missions are boring. With an amazing atmosphere, combat system and boss fights, this make this the most surprising game of 2019.

This is the best game of 2019 for me so far. It is a great gift for all gamers who love "The X-Files", "SCP Foundation" and "Alan Wake". It really breaks my heart to see that this game get negative reviews from people who have don't understand the concept of this game. I'm sure, this game will become cult and "Hidden Gem" status in the future.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. **SPOILERS about game mechanics but not story** This is a fun game. They flushed the combat mechanics out. Evade with quick dodges, shoot, telekinetically throw **** (like chunks of the environment) at or (with grenades launched at you) back at bad guys, then repeat. There are only two useful guns of the few available. Control's version of a high-power rifle called Pierce and a shot-gun, Shatter. Both can injure shielded enemies while other weapons are only effective against weaker enemies. Hence Pierce and Shatter's usefulness. All of which your one universal grey gun morphs into. The powers all feel useful and enabled the game developers to make some great choices in a level layout that they couldn't have otherwise. Specifically, you can float, so areas on the other side of gaps or on top of a tall structure are now accessible. You gain weapons and powers as the game progresses at a rate that is enjoyable and rewarding and fits with the timing of the story. The color palette, theme, and overall look is grey: grey concrete, grey metal, and brown wood, with dark-colored carpets and looks as you might imagine a well funded U.S. government facility (in Hollywood). The story is interesting and delivered through some dialogue with NPC's, but mostly **** you have to read. Tons and tons of **** to read in fact. There are some videos that add to the story and interestingly they are live-action. My chief complaint is the save/respawn system. No matter what you do, how far you complete an area you will always load and respawn to a point (you unlock) that is at the BEGINNING of the area you are in. It is intensely annoying to retrace your steps ad Infinitum. Control's different areas look very similar, so it's easy to get lost (even with the map). I gave up playing more than once because I couldn't bother to tread the same steps again, fight the same guys again, just to get to where I was before I died or had to stop playing. This seems like an easily fixed issue. Regardless, the game is still worth a play. Even if it is a wee bit short. I'd post this review on the Epic store, but it's a POS and doesn't have user reviews. Control **** me up, it was like this beautifully crafted love letter to the weird wonderful world of supernatural occurrences within games. The game is just so fun, interesting and something that feels so fresh to get in 2019. A uniquely crafted, very well thought out, action game that doesn't dumb down its audience.

I love this game. I don't think it's for everybody. It does have narrative issues, and the ending is incredibly anticlimactic (hoping that the DLC will fix this issue and pad the game out more) but for what it is, a very tight supernatural third-person shooter it truly is amazing.

I absolutely adore control. Check it out!

And there is NO way to heal besides killing another enemy!? HOW CAN I KILL AN ENEMY WHEN I AM ONE SHOT FROM DEATH AND THE AI IS 100% ACCURATE!? AS SOON AS I LEAVE COVER I DIE.

The game itself is interesting and telekinesis is really fun to play with. However, visibility is a main issue. All the battlegrounds are dimly lit, and worse everything is in blood red. Seeing clearly has become the major challenge of the game which is kind of pointless. In all the fighting scenes, it is tough to see where your enemies are, while running away from their bullets and missiles.

The plot is interesting, because it is not explained at the beginning, and this is the only thing that saves it from being a straight-forward typical plot, which it eventually becomes. Inside an interesting setting, but the plot is something that we've seen 100 times already. Story in Quantum Break was better and much more ambitious.
There is no much change in the scenery, and for a game of this length I would expect something more than just inside of the building and astral plane, and that's it.
I guess I'm glad I bought a disc version, cause I will be able to sell it on.

Our hero, Jesse Faden is an interesting, mature woman that wants to find her brother, Dylan and her quest takes her through the different areas of the Bureau in search of him while also helping a group of characters deal with many problems.

There is a good mix of gameplay and some of the areas are locked until you find new access key cards and abilities to progress further, so there is plenty of back tracking to find new secrets and collectibles as well as hidden quests and bosses.

The environment is pretty interesting, but that's about it. Characters are, apart from their distinctive look, very bland and give boring dialogue. Similar to Jesse who's a pretty uninteresting protagonist, with no character traits apart from that she wants to find this person and that person even turns out to be more boring and underdeveloped. There was no character who interested me or made a remark that made me feel engaged.
I also find the story very problematic as you have zero idea what's going on whereas Jesse has no problem just going along with this supernatural environment that doesn't seem to be grounded in reality whatsoever. I felt there was no goal apart from finding this person, but I didn't know this person so why should I care?
Now a bad story doesn't have to ruin a game if the gameplay is fun, but I found the combat very unbalanced and I felt the team who developed it didn't have enough experience to craft balanced combat. I immediately stuck all my points in my ability to through objects and this just became extremely overpowered. This was because if you throw an object you just hold L1 and Jesse will lock on to a target and then you release L1 to throw. This requires zero aim or skill and made combat so lame. sure you can shoot too, but this was less effective and after a few throws everyone was dead within 30 seconds, You also need to really get cover, because otherwise they'll kill you in no time, while I did have an upgraded health bar. so combat is pretty lame and is only there in short bursts. Framerate can also really tank here and I'm saying this after patch 1.03.
After 10 hours I stopped playing the game.

The game’s story isn’t anything new - shadowy government and inter dimensional beings similar to Stranger Things - but it’s well executed. You’re along for the ride with the main antagonist’s inner dialogue and interacting with the environment. Story is also told using other media like human actors, puppet shows and audio recordings. It’s solid. I completed in maybe dozen hours more or less and reached a new game plus to continue.
The single, semi-open world is also done well. You can interact with most objects around by shooting and destroying them. I get the sense that a good amount of effort in design and “under the hood” type stuff is going on to allow a stable world to interact with. But the design of the world - a secret government building isn’t that fun to traverse. You are rewarded for exploring, if you have the right key cards and abilities, and there are secrets and gun mods to pick up. But the bland office settings can be confusing and dull if you run back and forth too much; but you are rewarded. There are also puzzles with answers that aren’t instantly apparent, but I think it comes down to design choice and the game does not hold your hand or tell you exactly what to do, so I don’t count that as a negative. It asks the player to think.

The biggest problem is that your character can take huge damage quickly. Sometimes you won’t see what’s outside of your field of vision and the controls can be a bit stiff to reacting quickly. So in a few hits you’ll be dead. And then you have to sit through a 20+ second load time. If you’re dying a bunch and having to repeat the process, it’s frustrating enough to consider not playing anymore and that’s the biggest knock. You can also fall to your death easily.

In all, it’s a solid 6 other than the death check pointing and to a smaller extent, less than fluid controls. I wouldn’t be satisfied paying full price. It’s a good backlog game when you have no big games to play.

After even playing more of the game the absolute worse check point system of any game I have played, total dumpster fire of a system. Do you like starting check points 5 minutes away from where you died and have to fight your way back to a boss fight only to die again and do it all over again? This would also include large amount of times between check points and having to go back and keep doing over the same old garbage.

Do you like especially long game load times?

Do you like when every once in a while, you go into aim mode for your gun and the graphics basically block your entire view of the enemy you are shooting at?

Do you like long, long, long gun reload times? The worst reload mechanic of any game I have ever played. It is the same gun that morphs into different models but switching (Grip, Charge, Pierce etc..) to other models does not mean you have a full magazine you only have one reload for all guns.

Do you like whenever you empty your gun or use up all your energy the reload times basically double so you are left defenseless?

Do you like getting a very limited amount of resources to buy upgrades and find out that the last gun you can purchase in the game should have been essentially labelled GARBAGE( it is called Charge don’t bother with it), and you find out to late that it was just a waste of resources?

Do you like a poor mapping mechanic and getting lost and a lot of needless running around?

Do you like when you are low health and near death to have the screen turn almost completely red and not be able to see your enemies?

Do you like saving up to increase your health only to find out that it doesn’t matter because the enemies still one or two hit kill you anyways? (This is probably the most annoying feature of the game).

Do you like walking a few feet out of a room you just cleared only to find everything has respawned? Learn to dash by these idiot enemies.

Do you like being behind full cover only to be one shoted by an enemy you can’t see?

If you answered yes to all or some of the previous questions than this is the game for you.

This game becomes very frustrating and if I knew now before I started the game, I would have never bothered to play it. By the end of this game which I finished, I absolutely hated it. The finale is just wave after wave of guys with only one check point at the beginning of the level that I had to repeat a number of times (that happens a number of times throughout the game). Will not play another game developed by Remedy again.

I don't want to dwell into plot details here to avoid spoilers, but trust me, this is a game best to be experienced going in blind. If you're a fan of sci-fi and mystery genres, don't miss it out. Also, I've seen people saying it's a 10-hour game, which is misleading, as with all the side quests (mostly as high-quality as the main plot) it leans towards 25-30.
That's not to say the game doesn't have its fair share of problems. Firstly, even after the update there are mild performance issues on base PS4, with a consistent noticeable 2-3-second frame drop occurring every time you exit the pause menu. Secondly, the in-game map is confusing and often wouldn't load. Lastly, I found the ending to be somewhat underwhelming and straightforward, compared to the complexity and intrigue of the plot that preceded it.
Still, after beating the main storyline and being 3 trophies away from platinum which I fully intent to get, I consider Control to be the best game of 2019 so far.

Also I don’t think I’ve seen a game show what it would be like to have superpowers as well as this has.... since maybe infamous. Although spider man was incredible also to be fair. The gunplay and powers and the way it all plays in fantastic. If you haven’t played their other works the game is still an absolute blast anyway! Play this now, if you like mystery and intriguing storylines you can’t miss this one! Expand

Some of the combat is great but other parts just feel like a button mashing mess of confusion. Remedy brought an absolute classic in Alan Wake, then a decent but flawed game with Quantum Break... then in my opinion Control brings them down yet another notch to the realms of mediocre. Wouldn't bother unless you like frustrating games that try to put more effort into being 'clever' and obtuse than they do intuitive and enjoyable. Expand

I bought it when it came out expecting great things. Besides the world I think the gameplay is pretty subpar. The gameplay is pretty bland in my opinion. The story is Interesting and it will keep you pushing through until you understand it. The game is alright but not amazing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Garbage Boss fights with moss 1 and forger which gets recycled with smaller fight area to ensure more deaths for falling off platform than actual boss damage or extra annoyance because the boss attack breaks floors unfairly or in some cases poison stops you avoids dodging the enemy when dodging is something you upgrade to use (a power) this makes the game annoying.

(esseJ fight can be nicely cheesed using the stairs) and mr tomati is about getting to the upper bridge and constantly looking around to avoid the invisible cheese enemies that explode from behind and fly) Frame rate slows down often causing stutters a lot of times on a normal ps4, ground pound upgrade should allow the action during levitation even without ground near by and cost half the amount in order to correct poor design choices of destroying floors with boss attacks. Levitation is nice but being able to stay levitation with ground pound chains would be better. the some ttimes unfair enemy boss attacks from forger 1 makes dodging and shield just pointless this is sometimes made worse by the frame rate issue. Finally i got a power up which is red absolute shield +0% .... (when absolute is supposed to be rarest mod in game) The mods are unexpired and there is no slowly regain hp mod or poison immunity mod , even a god dam bosses don't break floor mod would make game better. Or a mode that prevents explosion damage to self) Throwing stuff with telekinesis is nice, gun transforming is okay but piece just seems junk 2 shots long charge time, and scatter is to short range, charge does nothing its worse than piece , spin is okay but often the normal grip is just more accurate. The game's story is in my opinion overly pretentious using everything it can to hide its flaws. The boss fights in general against stuff like forger 1 and moss 1 ruin the game as most of the other enemies /normal sub boss encounters don't prepare you in anyway for these bosses . I am nearing the end of game on polaris chapter currently and this Update to my statements is due to the ashtray maze and song by Old Gods of Asgard this song along brings it up by two points shame music like this wasn't used more often in boss battles and its the shame more areas don't shift during battle (but not in a way that removes the players current footing and cause death or shift when moving to different platforms).

    Over hyped.

The graphics are beautiful but character models are very ugly. The story is full of plot holes and makes little sense. Pretentious with no real substance. The characters have no growth or development. The main character is a total Mary Sue. The game makes good use of visual story telling, but the story itself never really goes nowhere and falls flat on its face at the end.

Now to the game part. The shooting is loose but all the abilities are quite fun to play around with. The map design is awful and navigation can be pain. The level design is weak. Once again, graphics and visual aesthetic over real core design. Performance is unstable on the base PS4.

And finally the game is 8 hours along definitely not worth 60$.

Jesse becomes a bad-ass Jedi over the course of the intriguing story & using her telekinetic powers to summon & launch objects at enemies NEVER ceases to be brutally satisfying. Definitely one of my favorite games of 2019 & the current generation of consoles in general...with one minor flaw: occasional frame-rate drops when fighting an (overcrowded) room full of enemies...but only in certain rooms. It doesn't happen often enough to be much of a problem, as it only tends to occur if/when I haven't finished off at least half of the first wave of enemies before their friends join the party & you acquire offensive upgrades pretty early on, so it sort of 'goes away' before it has much chance to become annoying. It's hard to fault the devs for it though because Control is essentially a next-gen game that pushes current consoles to their limits. Fortunately (for me) I recently upgraded to a PS4 Pro to give my poor old 2nd hand vanilla system a well-earned retirement after it started vomiting discs back at me in the middle of gameplay, so said issue wasn't much of an issue for me at all, but I can clearly see how it could be an immersion-breaking problem for "regular" PS4 & XBoxOne's (no idea about PC's). I experienced Days Gone on both my old & new consoles, but can only judge Control by how well it runs on my upgraded unit, & I have faith in the devs' commitment to optimizing this game because of all the love they clearly put into creating it. Aside from what's essentially a NON-issue for ME, I'm having a ******* blast! I'm taking my sweet-assed time savoring my playthrough & thoroughly enjoying every minute of it, so much so that I bought the season pass when I found out it that it unlocks an amusingky weird, existing side mission, & I'm already looking forward to the 2 promised expansions. Before I stfu, I have to credit the writing. The story is truly unique & interesting, with the added bonus of some darkly humorous gems to be discovered just about everywhere you venture. Solid 10/10 at full price - zero regrets for not waiting for a sale. Expand

The Hiss are annoying. Then there's the boss fights, which are also annoying, and made worse by the unforgiving save system where you need to start again from a pre-determined save point, which might mean running around for a minute to get back to the place where you keep dying. This game seriously lacks having a buddy companion, either A.I or friend. I think Prey did it better. I gave up. Expand

What a ride, what an experience, what a game! It's a perfect blend of gameplay, narrative and style. I just felt engaged the moment I played it. Coming into the game, I thought I would be bored by it's setting but I learnt to appreciate it's brutalist art style and it reminded me so much of where I used to live near the University of Chicago.

If you like atmospheric games like Bioshock, Alan Wake, Max Payne, Vampyr, where you are rewarded for playing it slow and explore everything, collecting documents and lore, you will love this game. It's story is told in a unique, non-direct style, where you have to pay attention 110% and even then, you may not understand all of it at once. That's what I love about it, it's sense of mystery and possibility. I love narratives that encourage discussion outside of the medium, in internet forums, youtube vids etc. It reminds me of TV shows like Lost and Twin Peaks where I had to read up more and watch it multiple times to pick up stuff I missed the first time round.

In summary, these are what I like and dislike about Control:

    Pros:
    Brilliant, atmospheric narrative
Great voiceovers and real-life acting (especially Dr Darling)
    Superb lead character
    Great gunplay
    Cool powers
    Exploration is very rewarding
    Excellent world-building
    Interesting side missions
    Engaging side characters
    Superb soundtrack
    Ahti

    Cons:
Slight FPS drop in intense battles
Background assets take time to load when you zoom in
    Respawn points are a pain
Slow loading times during fast travel

I really hope Remedy does more games. Can't wait for their next project. I will support this AWEsome developer always!

The writing, direction, and performances are consistently brilliant. This is Remedy at the peak of its game. Control feels like a company rediscovering itself, waking from a long slumber. Remedy’s legs work as intended once more, the vestiges of sleep paralysis a distant memory.

I don’t want to use the word masterpiece lightly, but what else do you call the combination of gleefully chaotic gameplay with earnest storytelling in a setting as refreshingly unique as Bioshock? What else do you call a combat system that goes so far beyond the simple act of shooting a gun without drilling down into a set of intricate menus and complicated controls? What else do you call darkly malevolent horror that doesn’t feel like it was cribbed from someplace else? What else do you call the crowning achievement of a studio with a unique voice, an uneven track record, and 25 years of experience? If there’s a better word to describe what Remedy has achieved with Control, I can’t think of it.
