A full priced game with Free-to-play lootbox elements? Rewarding players in watching others opening lootboxes??? Are you kidding me? What is this nonsense. 1/10.
Same old COD with a WW2 skin. The headquarter only exists for lootbox purpose. Nothing more.

if you care at all about multiplayer then do not buy this cod, 9 maps 4 of which are decent the rest are average at best! the game play is also terrible combined with minimal gun management and perk customization, possibly the worst CoD MP i have ever played.

This Call Of Duty is a mockery to the intelligence, it can have in some parts good graphics and few good moments that please those who do not ask much for a game. However, they spoil a very important historical fact by putting boxes of micropayments. Eliminate a moment that should be epic for putting in the face of the player his bad practice of selling items that help you, but you lose the immersive aspect. Despite having current graphics it looks as if it were for children. Then you realize that they underestimate you as a player, regardless of whether you have already played other Call Of Duty's. The campaign lasts little between 5 or 6 hours, the multiplayer seems to have put a lot of enthusiasm seems to believe that the player is conformist and easy to handle.

The campaign is quite good, quite lengthy as well. Better than Infinite Borefare and BO3's overly complicated plot. It's just a slimmed down, grounded war experience, and that I like. The multiplayer is mostly a very samey Call of Duty multiplayer experience that we have gotten since Modern Warfare, aside from the great new War mode, which is a fantastic addition. But it unfortunately doesn't quite save the multiplayer mode. Zombies. Sledgehammer's last crack at Zombies in AW only proved that only Treyarch could nail it correctly, so I was hoping they could save face here. I like how the mode feels like it's own beast and not a clone of BO3 zombies. The tone is very serious and mature, and that ascends the overly humorous tone of IW's zombies, which is great too. The gunplay itself is quite good, and I liked how the team opted for a proper campaign with horde sections, rather than repeating Treyarch's zombies mode. To be honest, the zombies is probably the best part of World War II. This game is definitely better than Destiny 2, and takes some strong strides in the right direction, but It doesn't earn a purchase at full price. I wouldn't get it for more than 15$. Expand

Call of Duty World War 2 is, well... It's a Call of Duty game. It's a Call of Duty game. I haven't played a call of duty game since black ops 2, so it's been a good bit since I've played one of these games so this review is coming from someone with an outside perspective. Playing this game after a long break from the series, it still feels very much the same as when I stopped playing the series. The changes in multiplayer feel very minor, as the experience felt about the same to me as it has always been. The only changes to multiplayer that I really noticed is that there's a hub area in multiplayer that you're in before going into a match and that transitioning to new matches feels a lot more seamless than it used to. However, the changes that were made are probably feel a lot more important to a hardcore call of duty fan than it was to me. The zombies mode in the game is very fun to play with friends. I didn't play too much of it, but the time I had with it was fun and I was surprised that they actually made a campaign out of it. The strongest part of Call of Duty WW2 to me was the main campaign. It feels like the Call of Duty campaigns fly under the radar, which I've always felt is unfortunate. Strange as it may sound, I think that the Call of Duty campaigns can be compared to the Marvel films. They feel like pretty standard cookie cutter stories that always play it pretty safe, but the experience is usually a good time and has characters you can feel attached to. Call of Duty WW2 uses this format as well, and it's probably one of the best campaigns in the entire series. It gives off a Saving Private Ryan kind of vibe, and includes many characters that you actually become attached to and care about what happens to them. The main protagonist Robert "Red" Daniels is one of the more interesting characters, who has a good backstory and his chemistry with the rest of the cast helps make the story remain engaging. Overall, Call of Duty WW2 feels like the same Call of Duty that we've always known it to be. The multiplayer feels the same as it did when I played it many years ago, as does almost every other area. If you are a Call of Duty fan who plays the game every year, you won't need my recommendation because Call of Duty fans will buy the game no matter what. As for other outsiders to the series like myself, I'd recommend either renting the game or waiting for the price to drop just to play the campaign or zombie mode, but I wouldn't pay full price for it. I played through the first level, the D-day landing and it was okay, but no better than Allied Assault on PC a decade ago. As a historical shooter goes, Battlefield 1 is superior in every way. The Zombie mode is okay, but it's the same old same old deal. If you were expecting anything new or different...

This is the best COD game I've played since the first Modern Warfare, but it still seems like a rushed/cheap wannabe triple a game. Considering it's nearly 2018, this game feels like it's a couple years old. I had no interest in multiplayer, so I didn't try it. Immediately swapped it in for Wolfenstien 2, which I hope is better.

The numbers don´t lie, this is the best selling CoD ever on launch already, on console, and the most played CoD on PC ever. There is a reason for that. The game is good, skilled. If you´re not good at it, you will not like it. You can go back to casual and slow Battlefield or Pubg for a different experience.

As a player to the franchise since COD4 and playing pretty much every COD since, I have absolute confidence in saying that this game is hot garbage and if this is the direction and attitude it has chosen, then I am truly done with this series for good. I will breakdown the campaign, multiplayer and zombies and give my thoughts on them:

Campaign - This is easily one of the worst COD campaigns and maybe even worse campaigns as a whole to a game I have ever played. Maybe this is because I'm a history major and researching WW2 as a teen but this genuine trash. The narrative struggles to be either a Band of Brothers style or a over the top action film you'd see from Michael Bay, with explosions and scenes of "loud explosion following ears ringing and dude pulling you on your feet" scattered in too many times. The characters are mostly cardboard cutouts that have no real personality, depth or weight to the situation and their abilities you use in combat are more frustrating and gimmicky than satisfying. The mission variety is typical COD design: boring shooting galleries of killing scores of people with little to no reaction, QTEs and gimmicky additions like tank and plane escorts that don't bring out the full potential it should. The authenticity of WW2 is pretty much trashed; it takes place in 1944-1945, which is invalidating most of the war (in which the first three CODs and World at War did correctly), the Allied forces are largely set aside for the American v.s. Nazis clash and more as gimmicky tokenism of cultures that disrespect their service (despite the opening clearly stating over 50 countries fought and left 65 million dead), characters don't act realistic to the situation, hitmarkers, retreading the same exact structure as other CODs before it. The climax and ending was forced and tonally out of place. It's trash and deserves no love and only scorn. I don't care that people only buy it for the multiplayer; if you put something in your game you want those players to play that in their game. Case closed. 3/10

Multiplayer- Standard COD multiplayer with a WW2 skin. It wasn't like COD 2 or 3 had great multiplayers anyways, it was COD 4 that put COD on the map in the first place. The game modes are still the same, the division system is pointless as you can pick any gun you want anyways, war mode is weak on operations, the inclusion of PC friendly race and gender options instantly destroys any authenticity this game claims to have, a **** hub world copy and paste from Destiny, loot boxes that fall from the sky and promote gambling and skinner box mentality that is abhorrent and should be scorned deeply. I suppose if you play with friends there can be some fun to be had and it feels more grounded compared to the last entries, but it doesn't do anything new that is concerning and by my fifth match I was already bored and wanted to play something else. Also add connectivity issues at launch and you got a fine example of a rushed product. 4/10

Zombies- Usually my favorite mode COD ever has and in some ways is the best to date. I like some of the changes made to the design of the game, but I unfortunately couldn't help to feel that it is too easy (as a vet of zombies since 2008). The characters aren't interesting and boring; their constant breathing and gasping becomes grating and annoying after awhile. The zombies themselves lose their dark charm quickly and their voicework makes them goofier than what should be (since I thought this was going to be a far more edgier zombies). Loot boxes in this mode is pointless and extremely ****. With it being easy and being able to get to high rounds with little challenge, I honestly felt bored and wall guns are just powerful as mystery box guns, completely making it pointless to use. The most disappointing part is each past zombies game (WAW and the Black Op series) had ideas that never got here despite being worth the inclusion. The human like models of WAW, the extra maps from BO1, the passive perks you get and the bank system in BO2 and gumballs in BO3 all could have been in this game, but isnt. The single map at launch is insulting and even with friends it can only last so long before you get bored. Decent overall. 6/10

The game will have microtransactions, has a season pass and generally feels like 'another Call of Duty', no matter if it returns to its roots or not. I am sick and tired of this series, the greed behind it and the stupid masses (myself included) who buy these games anymore and pass it off as dudebro topics. I gave COD a chance and after a decade, it's time to throw in the towel for any hope for the series. COD definitely has found its roots, but to grow a big nasty parasite of a plant instead of the hopeful tree of originality and charm. 4/10 overall. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

The characters are believable and likeable and for some reason the graphics in the campaign is amazing, whilst the multiplayer looks last gen. I like how we switched between characters (kinda like gta 5) depending on the circumstances; and the surprise and smile on my face when we got to fight in the skies was great. It also has amazing blockbuster driving sequences and explosive sequences that are really fresh and jaw-dropping. I can't like and recommend this campaign enough. Fun diverse gameplay, captivating journey, amazing cutscenes; campaign is definately a 9/10. Now the multiplayer is serviceable but it's only serviceable because they slapped a COD on it. Maps are a **** which promotes camping, 80% of it's map are too small and feel like mazes. The divisions are a disappointment and takes away player freedom. Guns feel/look/ sound too similar too each other. Typical COD playlist. Positives on multiplayer: will be dominated by veterans, more tactical and not as much run and gun, is satisfying when you're on a killstreak. Multiplayer was ok for me and is a generous 6/10. In a nutshell I want to say buy/rent (if you want) for the campaign and treat the serviceable mp as a treat. However if you're buying COD just for multiplayer I would advise skip it, (well it depends what type of gamer you are, definitely skip if you want 100 hours into mp type of game, as I feel this MP will grow stale quick.) If you want them out, STOP PAYING FOR THEM. YOU ARE THE ONES PAYING FOR THEM TO BE THERE.)

Let me make this short and break it down into three sections: Call of Duty: WW2, the game; Call of Duty: WW2, the Comparisons; and, Call of Duty: WW2, the Community.

--- The Game: This is a game which can be easily scored anywhere between 5 and 8, depending on your mood, on your common sense, on your intelligence, or on your need to defend your purchase of this game, or to attack it in order to defend your purchase of another game (i.e. BF1, Destiny 2). The Campaign is good, albeit short. The MP is exactly like the Beta, plus the usual millions of microtransaction options which just keep getting cleverer and cleverer.

--- The Comparisons: This game is not BF1. It has great visuals and good voice acting/writing. However, because it is not BF1, it also moves faster, which is great. BECAUSE it moves faster, it does not need to look as good. No one buys a game like this in order to stare at puddles in the mud, that's what games like Horizon: Zero Dawn are for. People compare for various reasons, not the least of which is, they simply don't know what they want anymore... and it is not our fault. Publishers and Critics and even YouTubers swing us left and right (bet they have fun doing it) for the sake of a sale, or for the sake of a sponsorship. In the end, so many people ended up buying Infinite Warfare BECAUSE of MW:RE... so it didn't matter. Activision won. Yay! And so did DICE/EA, because they also bought BF1. And so did Blizzard (Activision's merge), because they also bought Overwatch. And there go more than $180.

The Community: I'll lay it flat. Go anywhere. Whether here on Meta, or YouTube, or the Activision community, or just on the mics on PS4 and you'll reach the same conclusion I have reached: Call of Duty has been hijacked by children, and this is here to stay. Children, because, well, that is what children do, are not the best at playing well, although if you don't take the game too seriously, you'll be fine, since they are pretty good at just having plain fun in ridiculous ways, without worrying about dying or having their teammates killed, etc etc, and heck... since when did we get so serious about games?

Enjoy this game if you bought/buy it. That's all I can say. I couldn't enjoy it, but notice my score. My personal experience doesn't change what I see to be a solid COD experience, like in the past with MW and MW2.

Rather than innovate, they simply went back and repackaged the previous game and just took out the super jumps. The only innovation is the fact they made loot boxes more toxic than any game before it.

Multiplayer: The new war mode is the most fun I have had in COD for a long time. It's freaking awesome!! Your KD doesn't matter so it really encourages the team to play the objective. It very much takes after Battlefield One (a lot of the game does), but that doesn't bother me because I enjoy this game mode very much. If taking the positive elements from other games bothers you, you might have a problem with this. The downside is there are only 3 war maps and 9 regular MP maps... way too few. I have not experienced any server problems, my matchmaking times have been basically instant (I'm not denying the problem, I'm saying the people who come here are generally the ones who want to complain so you're going to read about more problems than good things). The rest of the MP is not very different, so if you've played any other COD game you know what to expect. Except gun camos are like COD4 which is fantastic. Gun balance is good and sniping is really fun so good job on that.

Zombies: Only one real map so far which is pretty disappointing. The map itself is pretty good though. I like the changes to zombies. Blitz machines replace perks, armor replaces Juggernog and gets more expensive each time you buy it, which is a welcome and challenging change. The zombie types are varied (there are 5 main types, plus a boss you can fight), and are done cleverly. The zombies are quite different than old BO and BO2 zombies. The music is phenomenal at the beginning and really adds to the horror of the game, but I found it getting annoying after a while and turned it off. They have added a real progression system which is great. You can unlock and equip perks (mods) and start with new starting guns, unlock attachments, etc.

    -----

    Other points:

    - The UI is horrible. It is the worst UI I have seen in a COD game. It is extremely counterintuitive and I find myself constantly searching too long for what I want. Maybe I'm too used to the old menus, but this one is just poorly laid out.
    - Microtransactions are a disease in gaming and every game with them deserves a lower score. Please DO NOT BUY THEM.
    - SPLITSCREENERS BEWARE: The splitscreen is completely broken. The things that pop on screen (objective lost, pick up gun, etc.) are HUGE and completely block your view. It's like no one even tested this. It's so so bad. It has great potential but they need to make everything way smaller. I have a 65' TV and it is very difficult to play splitscreen. I really hope they fix this.
    - Graphics are in the middle. Obviously there are better looking games but it does the job for me.
    - The content is high quality for COD standards, but there's not much of it. Not a whole bunch of guns and not very many maps. Campaign is short.
    - SJW stuff is a sad sad part of the world now, and breaks some of the immersion.

-Some of the worst multiplayer maps in the call of duty franchise. Majority of your deaths will come from being shot from behind due to awful map design.

-Censorship in a game that's supposed to be for adults is inappropriate. Sledgehammer has no right to tell others what's too sensitive to view and what's not. Hiding swastikas in a game about WWII is just immature and illogical on Sledgehammer and Activision's part.

-The outdated connection service they use is really showing just how outdated it is. A mass amount of people that bought the game cannot connect to the servers. The fact that Activision makes literally billions of dollars a year from their gambling crates but still use the cheapest possible multiplayer service is disgusting...

When its all said and done this game could've been amazing. Sledgehammer could've created a masterpiece and proved to everybody that they really don't just make these games on a yearly basis as a cash grab. They dropped the ball and WWII is the result. I've been playing cod for over 10 years and after the amount of disappointment I received from WWII, I'm officially done with the franchise. Won't be contributing to a company like Activision who is 100% anti consumer.

Maybe this time there would be improvements, genuinely well thought out ideas that added value to the game.
I had a weekend to kill and a few friends were buying so I joined in and I wish I hadn't bothered.

The campaign is somehow worse than the most recent transformers, and most recent fast/furious films, and that's just the story and voice acting.
The most frustrating element is the illusion breaking invisible walls and magic shields that force the player to do tasks in exactly the way the developer planned.
This is fine for certain games, but when the illusion of choice is given to you, and then for no logical reason and without explanation is taken away; forcing you to start at the last checkpoint, it's offensive, it's lazy and it's not acceptable for a AAA title.

Minor (and even a few mission failing) bugs could be forgiven if the above wasn't true and coupled with this title's cream of the crop price tag. Something HAS to change.

Whilst the multiplayer is better than the campaign, it too has seen very very little innovation unless you include the headquarters lobby which I don't as it isn't game play. The illusion of being surrounded by players does not create an atmosphere as there is very little you can do to interact with each other and no one bought the game to socialise with random players.

Same old copy paste create a class system with only superficial changes. Same old bulletproof hedges, invisible map walls funneling players into one of seven(not several) engagement positions on each map. Same old grind, fast twitch no scope, zero strategy , low team cooperation as the last 8 COD derivatives.

And FINE. I might be able to forget all this and just sip my BUY&LARGE cup cake in a cup and play..

IF I COULD CONNECT TO THE ONLINE SERVERS MORE THAN 1/20 TIMES.

Obviously don't buy it, but I did so I won't blame you. We need to stop giving battlefield/battlefront/cod/fifa our money and start demanding a better product from them than a repackaging. We need to change the game, so we can change the game.

The campaign clocks in at around 6.5 hours. So don't even consider it if you're strictly a single player fan. The multiplayer is more of the same with a fresh (kind of) coat of paint. Same old bullet sponge casual mechanics, Same old glitches throughout that likely won't ever get addressed, but perhaps worst of all - completely unbalanced maps. I was a little surprised at this because map design for the most part has been fairly consistent in Call of Duty, but alas, never count the franchise out for brand new disappointments.

Some of the maps are just glaringly uneven. Objective based maps where one team is constantly fighting uphill in the open puts that team at a considerable disadvantage and makes for a 100% consistent rate of losses on those maps in my experience. Even with a party of 6 good players we found ourselves losing on those specific maps in those specific game modes.

The game is a joke. The franchise has been a joke for nearly a decade. Do not buy this game.

I've played most CODs (some for a long time, some VERY briefly) since the very original on PC all those years, and although the return to WW2 does suggest a lack of new ideas etc, it's one of the better recent releases, especially following last year's abysmal Infinite Warfare. The return to WW2 obviously means no jetpacks, double-jumps or futuristic tech that distracted from the actual gunplay, which for now, is a welcome change. There are plenty of issues too, which I will mention below, along with the positives -

    Pros

    - The single player campaign is fun, which is something that can't be said for the past few iterations of COD. It does visit settings and places that have been done in every other WW2 game but it does it with a level of polish that isn't seen in many others. Objectives are varied, so although it is the familiar campaign, it does help mix things up a bit. The introduction of squad mates who provide you with supplies/health packs/support is a nice addition that keeps you on your toes.

    - The multiplayer benefits greatly from the lack of futuristic nonsense (drones, robots, nanobots etc) and is a much more focused experience for it. Because of the WW2 setting, the developers are more restricted in types of weaponry available and the game benefits from it, meaning it''s a bit more balanced and not quite as chaotic as before. It also introduced Headquarters, which is a social hub, not unlike The Tower in Destiny/Destiny 2. It's initially overwhelming but once you get used to it, it's good to be able to run about in and check with vendors while waiting for a game to start.

    - Graphically the campaign looks great. Textures are nice, it's very polished and it all runs very smoothly.

    Cons

    - Graphically, the multiplayer doesn't look great (which is nothing new in COD) especially now that the devs have had a few years with the PS4 (and XBone) kits, which is disappointing. It looks like it could easily be from the last generation of consoles, but I suppose graphics aren't everything.

    - Considering that it's gone back to WW2, it's no surprise there isn't an awful lot of innovation, and nothing that hasn't been seen in other WW2/COD/BF games.

    - The biggest issue at the moment is the servers - at times the online is unplayable due to errors, extremely slow matchmaking (which has been confirmed to be an issue with the servers as opposed to my connection) and completely empty Headquarters hubs. It's completely possible that if you do manage to connect to the online services that you could be sitting in a lobby waiting for a game for 15 minutes - it's that slow. It is assumed that this issue will be fixed with a patch or update very very soon, but it's still shocking that for a game as big and popular as COD that this is such a problem.

    Other points

    - Zombies - it has zombies mode as usual. I don't care, and never have cared for Zombies but if it's something you like, it's there and is pretty much the same as previous Zombies modes in previous games, so if you liked them then yay! If not, it likely won't change your mind.

Overall, COD WW2 is an enjoyable enough game with a few issues holding it back, none more so than the servers which will hopefully be fixed soon. Definitely worth playing through and having a go on multiplayer - if you loved older CODs (such as 2, 3, Modern Warfare and World at War), then you'll feel right at home. If you don't like COD though, I don't think this will change your mind.

I don't understand the destiny style hub area though. it doesn't make too much sense since most people will rush to match lobbies rather than roam around in some place that could easily have been accessed in a menu. also, at least in Europe, i see no one in the hub area, like 0. I waited for a 1v1 match for 3 whole minutes and I was the only one in the queue the whole time. however, the multiplayer is damn awesome, I love the map designs, really fun and easy to move around in and the designs are actually really cool. cod should probably change their engine in the next coming years since graphics are starting to look dated, it's far from bad but we can see better from AAA games. it's kinda hard to understand how the whole hub area works, I have no idea how supply drops work even after 15 hours of gameplay, I just somehow get them from time to time. I also don't know how to get armory credits, like at all, the whole thing with the quartermaster is hard to understand. I guess I'll have to figure it out as I go along. the weirdest thing to me is that no one is in the hub world, I mean it takes literally no time to get a match but it's no man's land in the hub world. so far the game is 8 but it could be a 9 when I understand how everything works, it's so hard to figure out these things, right now but just playing this game is a joy, I really like these map designs even though the template is pretty much the same. Absolutely terrible spawns...how many times did I spawn in to immediately (seriously seconds later) be killed by the same exact person! OMG!

Its just so spastic of a game, all reflexes, no thinking. Quick-scoping!? really? Why keep that in these games!? I watched one play of the game where a sniper quick-scoped two people from 12 feet away! So stupid. Campers absolutely galore! Campers and quickscopers will love this game.

It is a much better installment of COD, BUT everything that ever annoyed me about old COD games is still present. And the servers are absolute garbage so good luck not getting errored out. I would think game companies would be better prepared for releasing games than this...why run a beta if you cant even properly release a working game? Cant they figure out how stressed their servers will be by how many freaking preorders they had?!?! obviously not...very disappointed. Theres a good chance this is the last COD I will play.

I really wanted to like this game. I will play it some more. But today was Sunday, I woke up did some chores and played games most of the day, but did not once feel inclined to play COD WW2. 2 days after having it and I already was losing interest. That sums it up for me. I would love my 60 bucks back.

In fairness, the game maps are incredible although I wanted at least 2-3 more. The graphics are amazing. The story is pretty fun so far although not my favorite of the 3 modes. Zombies is actually gorey and dark finally with some amazing multiplayer fun to be had. But most of all the multiplayer is amazing. The servers had their ups and downs at launch so little 9 year old billy finds the need to lose his Hi C over it. but even with unstable servers so far the HQ is amazing, the camos aren't tasteless, it actually has better multiplayer achievements and gives you a sense of reward for good matches. Random supply drops ect... it needs more with updates added. More camos, more outfits and more calling cards. But all and all the game is legendary. Enjoy. :)

    - The campaign is too short, although decent, forgettable.
    - Game modes are banal (big surprise), done much better in alternative games of the same genre
    - Zombies are still fairly entertaining to play with friends, but the game mode is quite like the nature of a zombie – lifeless, often pedestrian, and mostly uninspired.

You play one of these crappy cod games and you have pretty much played them all... I have done enough research and have seen that the game is as I had expected. Trash... But hey... We smart people all saw this coming. We knew it was going to suck lol. Just another terrible cod game with the WW2 paint coat put on.

Short 6 hour campaign that's not very historically accurate as advertised. Also has dumb AI and glitches on top of stuttering issues many have been reporting.

Game also has micro transactions which automatically knocks the game down several points.

Lobbies and load times are totally garbage in this game. Dead zone issues with aiming have been reported multiple times.

Trash maps that are very few with many guns missing that I'm sure will be released over time through dlc/micro transaction horse **** and butt ****ery...

Here's the funniest thing of all... Apparently the ps4 version is working better than the xbox one version. The xbox one version was unplayable for the first few days of launch for most xbox one folk... At least the online multiplayer part. So why is the ps4 version getting a slightly lower metacritic critic score by the critics???? Lol whatever... Maybe it's got something to do with that over priced and pretty much useless for gamers console known as the xbox one x? Who knows who cares...

There are other problems but I don't care to remember them right now. I'm just caring enough to do this review for laughs and for the good of gaming. DON'T buy jokes of a game like this one. They exist to rob you blind and leave you with nothing but frustration. You people should honestly know this by now. I mean for ****s sake... It's cod... It's crap division... It's supposed to suck lol.

Decent visuals though... Lets not let this review be all negativity... Gotta give credit where it's due I suppose... Just to be fair and nice : )

Even without many of the problems I listed though... It's still just trashy cod at the end of the day so I would still give it a low score lolz.

However, where CoD WWII stumbled the most is in its scale. The campaign has its moments and ends up being a good reason to pick up Call of Duty to begin with but its multiplayer pairing is not so fortunate. Much of WWII's multiplayer feels heavily rehashed from previous games, adding little new to spice up the formula. Maps are typically dense and lead to more encounters between players but that doesn't translate to more fun. Often times, players can be cornered into spawn kill/deaths, especially if an opposing team knows where to stop pressing to keep the predictable computing from spawn-swapping. It really bugs me that no Activision title with the CoD moniker has fixed this problem after years of abuse. Nazi Zombies always has its fun moments, bringing a more visceral experience to the shooter. It's clear to me that this game mode is the only aspect that delivers time after time. It shows complexity, strategic thinking, and white-knuckle experiences because of how unpredictable the game mode can be. Good on Sledgehammer for keeping this part of the game fun and interesting. However, outside of an OK campaign, there isn't much to love here. Call of Duty continues to be nothing more than a re-skinned version of itself, year after year. This is a huge irritation as Call of Duty is begging to break out of its shell. Perhaps the future will yield a larger sandbox feel to CoD, especially as console and PCs continue to advance and offer more horsepower to smoothly handle the heavy computing that can come with AAA games.

As for WWII - if you like the setting, this is not the game to play. Battlefield 1 offers a much deeper and open experience that encourages a little role play here and there. Only CoD fanboys that wait on the scraps that fall from Activision's table will ever find a lot to love here. WWII continues the tradition of CoD failing to impress. It is clearer to me year after year that the original Infinity Ward crew were the lifeblood of Call of Duty and once Activision broke up that team, some of which went on to make Titanfall years later, that the pulse of CoD fell dramatically. With the exception of Black Ops, Call of Duty hasn't been interesting since the Modern Warfare series. I'm still waiting for the franchise to be resurrected and WWII does nothing to make that happen. Buy at your own risk.

The campaign should be nominated for an Oscar. Zombies is alright. The Multiplayer is yet again another **** show. The graphics are really bad(PS4 Pro). It's like the game has a very hard time to figure out what to focus on which leaves blurring everywhere.

Metacritic needs to figure out away to tell if someone has actually played the game instead of letting the BF kiddies come one here

Well, although the campaign is much better than the last three entries (BO3, AW, and IW). There are mix of tank section, aviation battle, espionage, and stealth. However, tank and aviation battle especially sucks, because even though they are fun it only lasts about 15-20 min as part of a mission, and NOT as a whole mission. Espionage while entertaining, it's easy enough for anyone with basic stealth instincts can plow through. And Stealth.....oh my god, it sucks. There is so much stealth in this game. You'd think that would be nice taking a break from full frontal combat, but these stealth sections are annoyingly paced. I was expecting a brother-in-arms type of bonding with my npc comrades, but that never happened.

Multiplayer is also a lot better, but still kinda the same. We finally don't have jet-packs and futuristic abilities, so the gameplay is much more grounded (literally). It's still only fun when you are the one kicking asses, but you'll still be plagued with cheap shots, 6-year olds who apparently did your mother, and **** who are better than you. Oh and lootboxes, while unnecessary, shows the greedy corperate **** side of Activision in a full force.

If you are looking to get COD, WWII is the game I'd recommend(sorta). The game looks great, campaign has its moments, and multiplayer as always needs some serious balancing.

Russian guns in the Normandy, in under three minutes is Omaha Beach taken (it took about half an hour until they arrived at the bunkers in reality, even Medal Of Honor did this right 15 Years ago). That was the first Mission. Okay, it was okay, I didn't expect much but it got worse. The driving parts are so fast, its like playing Need For Speed. And then the tankdriving... Horrible, especialy when my little Sherman with his short 75mm gun takes out multiple Panzer 4s and a freaking Kingtiger... What a laugh! Over alll it was a really nice showcase of how freaking great the americans where and that they won the war ALONE. Well, no... for me it's just bitter how they try to tell this story. I am german and yes, my great grandfathers fought in this terrible war. I know a lot about it. The Story forgot the Brits and Canadians, even on the overview Map there where no signs of them, STUPID. The resistance part of the game was a bit new and gave a new perspective but here was also nearly everything wrong. First i thought the Voiceacting was cool, all Germans speak perfekt german and the conversations made sense but then there was this one offizier that name i forgot... He spokes very bad german with a stupid acsent... and the game lost me once again. So the unrealistic story went on and I played through.... but then there was the part i was most disappointed: The scene at the end with the KZ... Just some random buildings, two hanging copses, some corpses on the ground... nothing really shocking nd tht is the problem. If yo visit a real memorial site of a KZ and you read all the history and look at the pictures you can't sleep for days, thats how horrific it really is and this game needet to tell this story better, more shocking. But no, it looks like a random prison with some people who might have died. Seriously? The developers didn't take the time for research, everything is wrong about it. The Bunkers, the Tanks, the Soldiers, the Weapons... I've been even to france, I know how it should look like.
But CoD isn't really about the campaign, right? So what about the Multiplayer. Well... It's standart, the Wa Mode is fun but nothing really new. I wish i could wright more about it, but the last three days where just a pain in the you know where. Server problems, buggy HQ, Lootboxes disappering. Nothing really works and thats all AFTER closed and open Beta. so no... nothing to be proud of right now.
But there's a Zombiemode. And yes, it's fun, but not for so long. pretty standart, too.
Overall this game is screwed and no recomandation at all!
Battlefield 1 did so much right last year. The campaign was great, Told many storyyys and you cared about the characters. The multiplayeer WORKED and was fun, too.

So far, some cons to note are the networks have been off and on, and they disabled HQ mode while they fix it. Honestly, the destiny-style hq mode annoys me - id rather go through menus than fake interactions but whatever, its down right now if thats your thing.

Steep upgrade curve - until you get a few attachments, your basically cannon fodder feeding the silly negative reviews on here.

And i'll just address the negative reviews head on, it certainly feels to me (as someone who swore off any more cod games until I had tried this one and was won back over) that many of these reviews have not actually played the game, and have it out for the devs. Reviews that talk about bad starts, probably legit, but just be wary.

But the main drawback (which is a huge one) is the multiplayer...thank god they added the War mode and the headquarter as a lobby to join friend! Finally Activition is trying to improve, but that is pretty much it. The rest is still the same as always, corridor maps, run and gun, corner camping, people that plays for their kill ratio instead of the objectives. The singleplayer was great with memorable characters and missions. Call Of Duty leads you towards the action and makes you feel more like a real soldier. Enemy A.I has "EXTREMELY" improved with its actions. Friendly A.I react very realistically to their movement. The problems with the singleplayer are, that when characters talk, the characters don't even look like they are talking, and plus the beginning of the campaign felt like you were more than special but after the first quarter, you start to feel like a real soldier.

Multiplayer is "Astonishing" with its well-paced gameplay and great animations. Call Of Duty WWII supplies you with weapons used in the 1st and 2nd World War. When I first played this, I had a big smile on my face because of how fun the gameplay was. But there is a big fall down with the multiplayer and it is the map design. Though some maps were great, in Call Of Duty WWII's map design, it felt like you knew where to go.

Zombies was a disappointment but I didn't say it was bad. Zombies put you in a great stance if you want to get scared. The experience was great but I didn't play too much of it.

Call of Duty WWII comes from the sledgehammer studio that made advanced warfare and modern warfare 3…
This game features a 5 and a half hour long campaign, a Nazi zombies mode and of course an online competitive mode
The star of this game is hands down the campaign..
Here you play as Daniels, a member of the United States army during World War II…
You occasionally play as a few surprise characters to infiltrate or take control of a tank for example...
But the games campaign mostly focuses on him…
And the story here is so personal, that for the first time in call of duty’s history I felt this soldier and his story wasn’t throw away…
Easily my favorite campaign in the entire call of duty series…
These characters are so fleshed out, all having their own personalities to them... it feels like an interactive movie..
You have a girl waiting for you to get home, and you feel her pulling you through the entire way as you feel immersed in the battleground of world war 2
Unique to this campaign is that you have to manage your health…
It’s definitely takes some time getting used to patching yourself up rather than taking cover and waiting for your health to regenerate..
But this leaves you being more cautious and aware of cover…
This health management is made less of a nuisance thanks to your squad members... stopping this from feeling like a survival game…
depending on the mission you’re on you’ll have different squad mates with a cool down meter to give you a med pack or ammo for example.. Mark enemies in the field…
Again immersing me into the game, caring about my position and where my squad mates are…
There aren’t really those epic moments you’d expect from a call of duty campaign... as this one feels more grounded in reality…
But there is plenty of variety as you’ll be in the trenches, in a tank, in a plane, you’ll go undercover as a Nazi.. There are car chases...
Making this campaign hard to step away from…
but once your time in the campaign is over its back to what you’re used to from call of duty// zombies, multiplayer, and regenerating health…
The zombies mode this time is all about Nazi tech, you’re killing zombies for points to buy new weapons, armor, upgrades, and unlocking gates and fulfilling objectives, not so much boarding up windows this time around…
And then there’s the online multiplayer which currently during launch weekend is a complete mess…
The game will get stuck on a load screen… there are server issues that force you to reset your router to fix.. End game results freeze on screen not giving any indication anything is happening... finding a match is a chore…
once you do finally get a match you’re thrown into your typical call of duty modes around some pretty weak maps…
probably my least favorite maps in the game’s history…
And since this is a world war 2 game the weapon variety doesn’t feel that present …
you start choosing your infantry out of 5 choices based on your play style and working on leveling them up to unlock their unique perks…
making matches and players more unpredictable…
once you choose your infantry you’re given that classes weapon, though you aren’t stuck with it as you can unlock any gun with rank tokens…
And then you take your favorite gun out into the call of duty world and level it up to unlock attachments for it…
    Pretty typical stuff
There are also daily challenges for you to do to unlock items like supply drops or earn currency to buy cards in game and unlock a special weapon or cosmetic item to give you an xp bonus or a one hit kill bonus in zombies…
giving players something to work towards and play for online..
It could be just me... but the maps, modes, and variety of weapons just couldn’t hook me…
And the games awful server issues at launch didn’t help this...
That being said... this game is worth picking up on its own for its campaign...
I give Call of Duty WWII
    an 8/10

It showed the war without embellishment, real, brutal war. We have forgotten what it is. We used fun to kill enemies in video games without hesitation. After CALL OF DUTY: WWII start to appreciate the peaceful times in which we live.

The story tells the usual story of a military soldier. Together with brothers in arms wades through a real hell. We've seen similar stories in games, the war has not been shown so realistically. Basically, this effect causes dismemberment. Very often we will see people without body parts, burning people and the atrocities of the Nazis.

The plot is simple, but you believe in this war, believe what is happening on the screen. All the characters have their own character, everyone has their demons. It is interesting to observe the drama of the characters.

The gameplay is now in spirit first every part OF CALL OF DUTY. Because of this the gameplay has become more boring. You sit behind cover and aims at enemies. Diversity is not. But there is one good innovation. The developers decided to implement in a single company element of teamwork. If we need supplies, first aid kit or swegene about the enemy - we are asking comrades. This is an interesting thing. and Yes, now health itself is not restored - it is necessary to look for kits. Here you don't feel like a super soldier ready to kill everyone, you could die at any moment.

Call of Duty: WWII is a game about realistic warfare. A single company is not very long, but no time to get bored. It's not the best Call of Duty, gameplay and artistic design can to lose IW, but nevertheless it was nice to return to the battlefields of WWII.

The first thing I noticed was how HEAVILY supply drops are advertised in this game, that whole headwaters thing or whatever is the most shady thing Ive ever seen in a game. You're basically encouraging little kids to watch other people open their supply drops and get all those cool guns, encouraging those kids to ask mommy and daddy for money so that they can get them. On top of that you have the supply drop matchmaking which puts bad players against good players who have Supply drop weapons, on purpose, in order to further advertise them. If you're a parent DO NOT BUY THIS GAME FOR YOUR KIDS
The game takes a ridiculously long time to load , the graphics look horrible. The hit detection and lag and insanely bad too. And last but not least , speaking of insanely bad , the MAPS are the worst maps ive ever seen in call of duty. Not only is it super hard to see people in the first place, but the maps themselves have so many openings, so much stuff everywhere. It doesn't matter how you play , you can get shot from behind. I can barely hear footsteps too. There is no way to tweak the graphics to make it easier to see ppl either ,everyone is headglitching and spawn camping in what seems to be an endless labyrinth of bs. The menu is awful, I want the old create a class point system. How does a 5KD player in all other boots on the ground cods struggle to get a 1KD in this game ? How does my 50mbps up and 50 mbps down drop to 2 bars every time I meet an enemy ?
Every cod game seems to be getting worse and worse ever since Ghosts and every time they are trying harder and harder to push supply drops . Its like its not even about the game anymore, its about, what kind of shady bs we can do to sell more supply drops.
You know what Im not even mad. Thank you for the refund PlayStation ! This is the 3rd CoD game I return following Ghosts , Advanced Warfare and Infinite Warfare.
I swear on my mothers grave I will never buy another CoD game every again ! Not only that, I genuinely feel relieved and dont feel like id miss anything.
Let's conclude this with the fact that supply drops should be made illegal, this is literally gambling, and Im not really concerned about me, as I haven't spent a dime on that scam, I'm more concerned about the younger audience. Manipulation of young innocent children to such high extent with what should be ILLEGAL gambling like I said should be made illegal.
Every single game that has supply drops in it SUCKS, as they are nothing more than a corrupted scheme to steal people's money and CoD WW2 is the perfect example of what happens when you try to push this ever harder.
Good luck dealing with legal trouble in the future Activation , it won't be long till you start getting lawsuits and all those money which you manipulated people and pretty much near stole it from them is going to be taken away from you.

Oh, but the critics love it, don't they? Well, they would, given that most of them reviewed it at a special swanky event held by Activision, closely supervised for their impressions whilst having their every need catered for. "Gaming journalism" indeed; integrity personified. Amazing how that little tidbit of trivia isn't widely publicised eh? Pfft...

I am convinced people buy this out of habit at this point. I certainly don't buy it, but I think everyone has that one friend who still does because the series made him happy when he was a teenager or something and it's become a drug to them. They tolerate any level of pure crap the series throws at them because they scored that perfect kill 10 years ago and it made them smile.

Good for them. For the rest of us who can't casually discard our brain, CoD:WWII is a complete waste of time and epitomises every single last thing wrong with this ridiculous industry.

The campaign and zombie mode seems fine, but I am here for the Multiplayer...for your reference, my favorite games in the series were Modern Warfare 1 & 2 and Black Ops II, in no particular order.

This is one of the bigger disappointments in my gaming life, my friends and I were going to get the gang back together, after one day of this mess we will probably all be returning the game.

This is one of the bigger disappointments in my gaming life, my friends and I were going to get the gang back together, after one day of this mess we will probably all be returning the game. This game might look like boots on the ground WW2, however it doesn't feel like it at all. You're zooming around the map like it's nothing, it's a twitch shooter, I can't remember a COD game that felt so, for a lack of a better word, wrong. Advanced and Infinite warfare weren't my cup of tea, to say the least, but the way they controlled was in line with the setting and equipment.
My biggest complaint might actually be the maps. Not only are they tiny, they are weirdly streamlined, don't feel like authentic environments, just corridors with a coat of paint (ugly coat of paint too, the graphics in mp are very underwhelming). The interface in my opinion is a mess, the hub world completely unnecessary. Bottom line, I have no intention of going back to the game. Which is kind of sad, we were all really looking forward to this. Even World at War was a superior WW2 shooter. I won't give this game a 0, because it obviously just doesn't deserve that, but I do believe a 5 is a fair score, I am shocked by the positive reception by some gaming sites (apart from the single player). I'd say stay away from this one...

The error codes present a link to www.callofduty.com/wwii/status where you can check updates on the server status however this page is clearly not updated because no one on my friends list can access any online function of this game yet the website indicates that all systems are green...

The worst part, is that they have censored WWII and made it politically correct.

Next Gen video games are ruining the gaming experience because video game developers seem to be simply riding the hype of next gen gaming while putting minimal effort into the actual performance of the games. Micro transactions have turned gaming into a profit first industry, have removed the artistic integrity of games, and have completely disregarded the consumer.

My advice is to buy this game used on Kijiji and prevent these developers from making m.ore money than they deserve

The sad part is that as usual the lowest common denominator will keep enabling this kind of practices until is too late.

I got the deluxe edition hoping it would be a throwback to the good old days where you'd snipe from a destroyed building, lurk through tall grass, or hide in the carcass of a downed helicopter, but instead they got rid of all that realistic hc Tdm stuff to appease the trigger fingers of people who complain about camping. The result is that it feels more streamlined than ever, in a very backward way. No you can't climb that tower it's decoration. No you can't hide in that grass, it's decoration too. BF1 really ruined COD for me, that was truly next gen and I got this hoping Cod was really gonna go back to the roots and then innovate from there. Loved advanced warfare btw, sledgehammer makes good games, but the slow boots on the ground doesn't work IMHO if you're using a map style still suited for fast play in the vein of advanced or infinite warfare. Slow play should have a tense stealth element to it which is what made the old games so fun for me, Expand

This game is simply a cash-cow for Activision: a guarantee'd earner: micro-transaction hell.

In multiplayer: the graphics are pretty dismal. The maps nothing new. Weapons boring. I'm trying really hard to think of anything that impressed me.

On day of release the servers were running really slow. Sometimes we waited 5 minutes+ to get into a match. One thing in particular that I found annoying was the 'Headquarters' a place where all online gamers congregate prior to finding a match - more like a pen to contain the sheep.

I have bought and played all of the Call of Duty games since CoD 4 and watched as Activision have run out of ideas and produced lesser titles. I honestly didn't think anything could have been a greater disappointment than Infinite Warfare. This is.

The reality is a group of 6 of us - gamers who loved playing CoD were talking about trading the game in on day 2 of release really puts it in perspective.

If you enjoy FPS don't waste your money on this pile of tripe. If we keep buying this junk and filling their purses without saying how it really is then this is the end of gaming. :)

    Have a nice day.

My main problem with this supposed next generation of maps is that they are no different than last gen, where is the dynamic settings? why cant there be a physical changes to the map randomly i.e. a battle on a sinking battleship or a war around you with buildings exploding? its just lazy and derriviative but compared to what Activision charges for season pass / map packs its just insulting!

Loot crates are obviously there, disgusting to have them opening on normandy batlefield in your "social area" and visable to all, there really isnt an "enough money earned here" is there!

Overall I feel more down on the franchise now than ever before, it needs to go away and have a high level rethink about COD's future as come next year, COD will not be a pre order or even a day one purchase for me!

I love it. Characters are great, the story is compelling and both audio and visuals are of the best quality I have ever seen in CoD. I can see myself playing it again and again alongside the first games. Props on this one. And man, I wish I could buy a singleplayer only for a third of a price because the rest of this game...

Zombies have zombies. Enough said. I vomit with zombies. Movies, TV, games, zombies are everywhere. They are boring. They were boring years ago. Just stop making zombie games and movies already! They've been done to death... Pun intended.

Multiplayer is weird. You have that new hub section where a bunch of people run around, open boxes with random **** and do nothing but look for a menu to see the multiplayer modes. It's confusing at first but it is a good idea... but seeing loot boxes being open, seeing other people getting some random junk made me realize that the point of this hub is to gloat about your loot. Nothing social or interesting takes place here, just consumerism at its finest! The gameplay itself is like CoD of old. No recoil, no strategy, no thinking. Maps are built with sniper nests and choke points from grounds up, so... every game looks exactly the same. It gets boring after a while and because of how weapons handle you feel like the game was programmed as your first shooter - when you're done go play something better (most games are better).

To sum this up. Singleplayer campaign is an easy 9/10, multiplayer is for me 3/10 (7/10 for CoD players) and zombies is about -1000/10. It's a shame you can't buy just the singleplayer, I'd pay for that.

This game is SO poor: graphics are nowhere as it should be on today's consoles, animations are the same as 10 years ago, explosives are poorly done and the indestructible and hidden borders of the environment is something retarded.

That's because of the old engine from the beginning of the franchise. They just 'modified' it but the basics remain the same. The download package is 70GB (!!!!), all of which is bloatware. We're not talking about ultra HD graphics are heavy renedering for next gen consoles.

The gameplay in multiplayer is very arcade, very fast and it's like I'm playing against and with bots. They all move so jerky. Shooting mechanics are poorly done, it doesn't feel right, it's all too fast. After a MP round, it takes ages and ages before a new game starts and you have to stare five minutes at the scoreboard without any possiblity to go to another screen.

What's great? The unlockables, the perks and kill cams are still great and something to play for. But the gaming experience is so so so poor and it's painful to see how the gaming press keep giving it high scores. Perhaps it's because of the Campaign Mode, which I'm not interested in.

But the whole game experience and above all, the game mechanics are retarded and outdated. This is a game for PS3, not for current gen consoles. Once again, you should be ashamed Activision to support publishing a cheap rip off of this franchise. IW or Sledgehammer MUST create a new engine for this game.

This is like like playing FIFA 07 on a PS4 in 2017.

I really wanted CoD’s return to World War II to be something more than a solid game – but it’s not. I couldn’t shake the feeling that I’ve already seen all this, that the developers (or perhaps the publisher) chose to create something as safe as possible. There’s just one campaign mission that surprised me with its scale, the rest is just a disappointing “best of Call of Duty”. The multiplayer is as good as usual, but it was infused with unnecessary systems resembling mobile titles, e.g spending in-game currency on pointless tasks of the “kill 100 enemies” variety. Missions that make you watch other players open their loot boxes are the pinnacle of absurdity. [13/2017, p.64]
