However, many many people who have played a Battle Royale game have seen it all. Injecting a bit of fan service will not sustain this game very long because the core fundamentals are boring. There is no skill ceiling worth attaining and even assists count as kills in multiplayer - yes everyone is a winner now. Now you can be a big winner and spend some of those COD points before buying more microtransactions. Wake up and realize this company is Call of Dutys doom and not their saviour. You all bag Infinity Ward but they at least had more than 3 great games. They saved Call of Duty from failure twice when Treyarch flopped (Cod 3, World at War). Yes their games are bad now but you are disrespecting their legacy by rating greedy Treyarch as the best.

Now to the game. No campaign is already a bad mistake. The little tutorial missions are boring and promote characters that have no substance are all 8 year old trash talk.

Multiplayer is Black Ops III without jet packs. Bland map design, poor hit detection, lag, server crashes, bad weapon balance, dodgy specialist gear and abilities and pay to win gamble boxes

Blackout is decent but is also plagued with lag and hit detection problems as well as no replayability after a few games

Never been a big Zombies fan so won't say too much about it but playing a few matches, I felt a good job was done here. Good map design and a variety of things to do will treat the dedicated Zombies fans well

Overall, some glimmers of hope but a generally trashy game with poor pricing that is once again piggybacked by the bandwagons

I completely understand the anger from the community due to a lack of a single player campaign, it is unfortunate and annoying for all of those who bought previous Call of Duty games for this feature. The Blackout mode is enjoyable, and while I need to spend more time with it I believe that as long as frequent updates are given to it, that it will be a good contender for Fortnite and PUBG. Multiplayer is refreshing with no more jetpacks and double jumping/wallrunning, and I believe the ability to choose when to heal is a great addition to a tactical shooter. The specialists are all relatively enjoyable to play, and while there are some that will undoubtedly be a "must pick" for a team to win, with proper balancing and practice they all have their own merit. Ultimately as of right now, I would give this game most likely an 8 out of 10, but have to overcorrect for people who are lashing out due to anger. Expand

The specialist missions are short, boring and serve no purpose other than being a tutorial on how to press 'L1 + R1' for your luck based ability that requires no skill to use. Multiplayer has only 10 new but mediocre MP maps. Making remakes is a lazy excuse to fill up a diminishing roster of garbage maps.

Blackout itself is a solid mode but not worth the hefty price tag. I personally like vehicles and realistic gameplay over building. However, it is not worth a single dollar if another BR game is free.

To Blundell and the Zombies team, bravo! You nailed Zombies again and are the only reason this dead beat franchise is even afloat. At least your remakes are genuine and have new storylines and content to the maps instead of being a straight up cut and paste like Multiplayer. The revamped perks system is a fresh perspective and the new cast are fantastic to play as. I like the historical approach to the new maps and the variety of Zombie villains. Zombies alone gets this game to a 1/10

The schemes of lootboxes, overpriced games, season passes and lack of content at launch is a Treyarch special. It's time to stop them and their paid reviewers from encouraging dirty tactics. You don't see Kratos opening loot boxes to find his latest axe. Treyarch and Activision love rigging their little game of monopoly. They would sell Whitechapel Road without the add on Hotel for the price of Mayfair. Wake up and stop falling for their lies and schemes

In fact, the devs of PUBG took lengths to create a balanced game by removing "luck-based" items from normal gameplay. More often than not in BLOPS4, the winner of a Royale game comes down to "is their armor better than yours" I even recorded a gameclip of someone coming up a ladder in level 3 armor, me draining every round from my LMG into them, still shooting them as they got up to my level, and then they turn around and kill me in a few hits (apparently no lag detected). The lack of tactical options (ie not being able to switch firing modes, no leaning, etc) also makes this a subpar Royale offering. The attachments were also underwhelming except for what level of zoom you were using for a scope. The entire experience obviously feels more like COD than a Royale game. However, it does offer a much more enjoyable Royale experience for someone who wants to play a few games by themselves.

On an Xbox One X with a new 55" 4K TV and HDR, the graphics were underwhelming and not much has changed. Even with the caveat that the graphics need to support 80 players in Royale, I just wasn't impressed. COD4 blew my mind, BLOPS4 just blows.

Ultimately, the price does not justify the content and the flashy new Royale doesn't have the staying power or the draw to keep me coming back time after time.

Treyarch are no better than Activision and people supporting this game are also supporting gambling, ripping off consumers, brainwashing kids into wasting money and half made games to get that extra dollar. EA has crumbled through their fans taking a stand and not buying Star Wars and Battlefield 5. Treyarch fans should take a note out of EAs book. Take off the nostalgia goggles and see that all you are buying is Black Ops III that is

    (1) Ripping off other trends to stay relevant (e.g. Fortnite, Overwatch, PUBG, Rainbow Six Siege)
    (2) Gradually reducing original content (a whopping 7 remakes this game including Season Pass content)
    (3) Still using an outdated Season Pass model whereas other developers have dropped this unethical trend
    (4) Pushing loot boxes onto a $100 game for multiple modes
    (5) Taking a mode which Fortnite did for free and charging for it
    (6) A 55gb day one patch for yet again server drops
    (7) Clear cut evidence of no money being invested into a better engine. Graphics look worse than Black Ops III (slow rendering, dull colours, poor textures), game mechanics are worse than Black Ops III (lag, bad hit detection) and so called skill based match making is shocking (joining already half finished games and being paired with the 5 worst players against the 6 best)

I don't know how people support this money soaking trash. Treyarch has been ripping you off since Black Ops II when they put a weapon in the Season Pass. Then it turned to gambling supply drops with no odds shown for getting a weapon. Now it's taking free game modes and charging them whilst shoving Black Ops II and III tactics in your face as well. Black Ops V will force you to pay to play on the Call of Duty servers if the sheep continue to devote to this mediocre company

Call of Duty hasn't ever been known for the campaign and they really have never been good for that fact, at least since MW2. Look at Rainbow Six Siege and tell me you need a campaign for a good game. Second they absolutely lack any true criticism other than: "So overrated. Why so much hype?", "completely online awful game!". This is most likely due to people that actually never bought the game. They are just worried that because this game doesn't have a solo campaign that it will push other devs to stray away from them. Lastly the monetization after the 60 dollar price tag. Which I practically agree with, we don't need loot boxes or any MTX in a 60 dollar game. Let the free games or cheaper games do that. Although this is where all games are at now. Single player games like Assassins Creed odyssey literally have pay-to-not-pay MTX, Boosters and just straight buying equipment. So I will treat all games the same now based on MTX.

Now Call of Duty Black ops 4 as it stands is a very content fulled experience. Multiple different modes are set in place to compensate for the lack of campaign. 3 zombie maps, an entire BR mode and all the multiplayer versus modes. Anyone that says they don't have a lot of content in this mode is blatantly lying or misinformed because they haven't actually played the game. Blackout BR mode is practically a stand alone game that i would hands down pay 30 dollars for. A very fast paced and polished mode. Im not going to go in depth of on the modes but try just giving you the facts. Now the Multiplayer mode has two new modes and all the classic modes. You might say two isn't a lot but the other modes are great and fix something if its not broken. They have changed a lot and added some new stuff. Healing is now the here instead of regeneration of health which adds more tactical approach. Thrust jumping and wall running is gone but still has a very fast paced gameplay. Now I haven't actually played zombies yet. But It looks very in-depth and they have multiple modes and maps to choose from.

Don't let other people confuse you on this game, do your own research on the game by watching gameplay. If you are only interested in solo stuff, this might not be for you. Though they have a little bit of story and solo stuff with the specialist characters. You can easily get 100s of hours out of this game. Get bored of close quarters versus, move to the huge long range combat of BR. Getting tired of player vs player, move over to the zombies mode or the Specialist headquarters mode. Well worth the 60 dollar price tag.

The next FPS level of innovation we'll see will probably come from ProjektCDRed's Cyberpunk... but that's an FPS-RPG.... which is totally different, but which, seeing what is happening to other franchises (namely Assassin's Creed), is probably where Blops is eventually headed. In other words - SUPER CUSTOMIZATION.

Zombies are back in form. And Black Ops is grounded again, but due to the pace, there's this odd sensation that one is still "flying"....... or is that just me? And I spotted more than enough people jumping while shooting to know that they felt they just HAD to. Something I didn't see in WWII.

The big deal is its own Battle Royale. It's the best there is right now, no question about it, and not just in visuals. Naturally, it is trying to become the king of BR on hardcore platforms, while leaving the mobile market to Fortnite, which is king there. And I think it may just succeed.

Game looks good. No, it is not "just like Blops 3;" there are improvements. Go compare them side by side and you'll see. If anything, it has about the same graphics as Infinite Warfare, but better than WWII. And yeah... it's not going to look better than Battlefield 1 OR V. It can't. That game takes forever to load for good reason. This is a fast-paced game. Let's just drop the argument already. This is like arguing a luxury sedan vs a sports car.... it's stupid.

Multiplayer is still where I spend most of my time, and for me it's a win this time around. I like that they brought back those 4 old maps, and I actually like the Blops 1 and 2 similarities of the newer maps. Someone at Treyarch has realized those games had the best maps, and they finally picked up on it.

The game comes with 16 maps at release compared to the normal 13, three zombies maps instead of one, and of course battle royale. But, all this extra multiplayer content comes at the expense of a single player campaign.

As for multiplayer, outside of a few changes to health and specialists, there's nothing new, and the changes aren't exactly for the better or may not appeal to the casual audience. The changes made such as the removal of auto health regeneration and only allowing one of each specialist per team may turn off the casual player base. Streaks are copied from previous titles with nothing new or exciting. The maps follow the same three lane design that has been overused throughout recent titles making them bland and repetitive. BO4 multiplayer does enough to separate itself from previous entries, but whether these changes are good or not have yet to be seen.

CoD finally has battle royale, Blackout. The mode itself is well done, but it does nothing for the battle royale genre itself copying mostly from PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. It does have some unique gimmicks though to help it standout such as famous maps from previous Black Ops titles, Black Ops campaign and zombie characters, and even a few zombie locations with AI zombies that you have to deal with, but as for adding and expanding the BR genre, it does nothing special. Overall, it's an enjoyable BR experience due to its optimization and performance. Casual fans that may not have enjoyed PUBG and other hardcore BR games may enjoy Blackout far more than other hardcore battle royales while still offering a somewhat serious FPS that may pull fans away from the silly and cartoon themed Fortnite BR., but hardcore BR fans may still prefer the realism of PUBG or the uniqueness of Fortnite more. But overall, it's an enjoyable experience that you will definitely sink your time into if you are into battle royales.

Zombies has been my favorite experience of BO4 so far. Offering the most maps at release than any other CoD, zombies is going to pull in the CoD zombies fan base hard. The mode is definitely more difficult than previous zombie modes which may turn off the casual fan base that grew in love with BO3 and IW zombies, but I welcome the challenge of bettering myself at the mode.

CoD continues to still push the Season Pass, however, in the form of the Black Ops Pass. The Black Ops Pass offers a bonus zombies map at release in Classified which is a remake of Five from Black Ops 2 and 12 multiplayer maps, 4 less than the usual Season Pass, while still maintaining the $50 price tag. It also includes character skins for Blackout BR. If you are a zombies fan then the BOP will definitely be worth it, but fans of multiplayer are stuck with 4 less maps than usual in the least hyped mode of the game. As for Blackout fans, it only offers skins. So unless you are a zombies fan, the Black Ops Pass does not seem worth it.

As a whole, Black Ops 4 is a decent entry into the CoD franchise. It does enough to pull in the battle royale and zombies fans, but fans of multiplayer have been given the short end of the stick with campaign fans left with nothing but specialist training missions. I give Multiplayer a 6/10, Blackout a 7/10, and zombies an 8/10 for a combined score of 7/10.

This game is stripped of everything.
    No Campaign
    No achievement/trophy hunting
    Bare bones menu system
    Lack of customizable options
All maps are upscale models of old Black ops Games
This feels like Black Ops 3.5 this easily could have been a season pass for BO3 not a full retail game.

BTW on Xbox 360 and PS3 when they released a multiplayer only COD it was $39.99 not full price

Feeling like the best COD since Blops2 - Removing Campaign is a bug plus for me as i never touched it in any COD's.

MP - Feels really smooth. Maps are 3 lanes. Surprisingly playing this more than Blackout
BO - Easily by a mile, the best BR on the market.

Don't play Zombies can't review it.

You're getting 3 different modes, it honestly feels like a steal for $60.

The first COD I’ve liked since 4.

It’s all about Battle Royale, which is the best one yet! I only dock it because of the lack of Single Player, I wouldn’t mind if the name was different, but carrying the Black Ops name is a bit odd.

The graphics on PC might have been good six years ago. Even with everything maxed out and still running at 60+ FPS, it looks pretty bad.

Regular multiplayer plays like a generic FPS, nothing really exciting about it.

Blackout is really disappointing, it feels like a poorly executed PUBG clone. I got second place my first match, and for the final one-vs-one we were both in the open strafing and shooting at each other. Again, nothing really exciting about it.

I can't say much about Zombies mode, my play time was limited in it. What happened to the original Nazi Zombies from WaW? This feels convoluted. I do see other people really enjoying it, so it's probably just me on this one.

I would comment on the campaign but there isn't one.

If this title was $29.99 I would feel slightly disappointed. I feel really sorry for anyone who bought the $99.99 and above editions. I probably won't buy any Call of Duty title again.

I don't necessarily think this game is a 10, I do think it's an 8 or 9. I'm rating it a 10 because there are far too many disingenuous reviewers who haven't played the game and are bitter that it doesn't have a campaign. They're not writing honest reviews and, quite frankly, it's annoying. If you're not gonna buy a game, you can't review it. The removal of an average single-player campaignI don't necessarily think this game is a 10, I do think it's an 8 or 9. They're not writing honest reviews and, quite frankly, it's annoying. If you're not gonna buy a game, you can't review it. The removal of an average single-player campaign that never stood out as good and is barely touched is not a reason for a 0.

You review based on the quality of what's in front of you. And so far, I find the quality to be incredible. Smooth gameplay. Well-optimized. Blackout is a ton of fun. If you like battle royales and you like the smooth responsiveness of Call of Duty, you will adore Blackout. PUBG and Fortnite are fun games in their own right, but even the most avid of their fans can agree that gunplay is very meh in both games. Not to mention being third-person.

Zombies is fresh and innovative. A new system for perks that removes overpowered crutch perks in favor of less dominant, more balanced perks across the board. Tons of room for player choice and role strategizing. The gameplay loop has evolved to something new. Plenty of people are resistant to change and don't like that. I find that the new loop is improved on the old one, which was getting stale. This is coming from a day one Zombies player and lover.

Multiplayer is the mode I'm least excited about. Mainly just because over the years, Call of Duty has bored me. Black Ops 4 is decently fresh. A collection of maps that is larger than any game in the current console era, that includes remasters of popular maps from previous games. The map count keeps the game fresh for longer, the proven quality of the remasters keeps the entire group afloat.

in the end, this is the most quality Call of Duty game that we've had in well over half a decade, if not longer. As always, there are always tons of people who are more interested in hating on CoD than giving it an honest try. Hell, I'm pretty sure two of the zeros below are from the same person on two accounts, because he typo'd "company" where he meant to say campaign, in both comments.

Only 10 new Multiplayer maps which look dull and uninspired; and they all have the same 3 lane design. Same hit detection, lag, server and playability issues. Rewarding bad play with participation trophies such as specialists. Bad gun design and sound effects. Cringe worthy quotes and emotes from forgettable characters.

Blackout is okay but after a few games you have done everything. This mode should be a free downloadable game and not have a price tag like it currently does. It will end up like PUBG and burn to the ground by next year due to its price and more than likely decline in quality like regular Call of Duty games

Zombies, great as usual. Really enjoy the variety of maps and new characters who are actually engaging to the player. 3 maps on launch is a treat and the new mechanics make the mode feel fresh and fun. Sadly one diamond in a pile of dirt does not make the dirt valuable as well.

Activision and Treyarch's revenue strategies are appalling and need to be reviewed by gaming regulators. Loot boxes (gambling) in Multiplayer, an expensive season pass with less content, liquid divnium, Blackout content and ridiculous base price for half of a Call of Duty game.

Treyarch could have been the saviour of Call of Duty but they are the cash grabbers who will exploit every person's wallet if they get the chance. If they cared they would have left Activision, they're in it for the money as well. I feel sorry for people like Jason Blundell who work so hard to make a fun game and it's ruined by the top corporates who seek to leak you of every dollar.

How this works is each category gets a score out of 2, add all and that's the score out of 10

    Single Player: 0
    Multiplayer: 0
    Blackout: 1
    Zombies: 2
    Pricing/Content/Ethics: 0

Overall: A lazy and uninspired effort by Treyarch. Black Ops 3 without the jetpacks and ripping off more trends to keep a dying franchise relevant. First they ripped Titanfall and Halo, now its Overwatch and PUBG. If it was going to be a cut and paste game, charge it like one and not like its God of War or Spider-Man. Buy whatever you want, but if you want to see change to what you buy and be charged fairly for what you play, you need to stop buying these unfinished products. $200 for all map content + additional money for Micro DLC and a 55gb day one patch for servers to play up. Poor form Treyarch

This game is incredibly boring and pedestrian compared to Black Ops 3. They think this is what people want, but 3 years down the road it will not have the community that BO3 has. In BO3 you could actually USE the map. You could customize loadouts for meaningful gameplay variety. In this game everything blends together and the maps are Swiss cheese. Very disappointed.

After a lot of series fatigue, Call of Duty has finally landed on it's feet.

Until I got a PS4 and a steady group of friends to play them with, I only bought Call of Duty games for their campaigns and Zombie modes. Never bothered with multiplayer or Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare series, I was always a Treyarch guy. Less of a hardcore fan and more of a casually interested enthusiast.

Never bothered with multiplayer or Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare series, I was always a Treyarch guy. Less of a hardcore fan and more of a casually interested enthusiast. However, for the past 4 years, I've bought every COD game from Advanced Warfare and onward. Treyarch, always reliable in their quality, has proven to be the only development team working for Activision capable of holding my interest for long periods of time with their games. I can't tell you how many hours exactly I put into Black Ops 3, but let's just say that I got to Master Prestige within a year of that game coming out. Not to mention all the wonderful Zombies content included in that game.
Advanced Warfare was neat for a while, but I never made it past first prestige. Infinite Warfare was too much of a copy/paste of Black Ops 3, except it lacked the personality and fun factor (this is excluding their excellently done Zombies in Spaceland). WWII was great at times, but even after Prestiging three times, it didn't feel like the time put into it was worth it (especially the Nazi Zombies mode).
For the first time in years, Call of Duty has found a way to blend new and old together to make a cohesive multiplayer experience. Multiplayer feels great. A good blend of floaty and weighty. While it's cool to see some of the past game's specialists returning, I really enjoy the new characters. Has more of a tactical feel than a lot of the past games in the series. This makes game modes like Search and Destroy have a kind of Overwatch feel. The new Heist mode is amazing. Very similar to CS:GO. Zombies has changed in certain areas (no Juggernog or Speed Cola makes it feel a little weird), but it's still the Treyarch zombies you know and love. Blackout, the new Battle Royale mode, feels fantastic. Even though this is their first foray into the genre, Treyarch did an excellent job at making a fun BR experience.

I highly recommend this game to anyone that's ever loved a Call of Duty game. It feels like they put a lot of love and care into designing this game. While they're not in the game at the moment, lootboxes will be returning, so be prepared for some RNG **** with weapon drops and what not. Also, while the content in Multiplayer more than makes up for it, I still wish Treyarch had some sort of single player campaign. That's really the only negatives I have about this game.

As a long-time Call of Duty player and lover of the Black Ops series, I have very mixed feelings about Black Ops 4. I shall start with what I enjoyed about BO4 and then get completely blunt honest for all of you gamers who need a solid answer on whether or not to go out and spend your hard-earned cash on this game.

Firstly, I appreciate the developers incorporating the favourites of Black Ops series including Slums. Treyarch has really listened in this area and grabbed hold of what their fans enjoy. I also enjoyed the step back to traditional COD multiplayer to go forward in the series. No more wall running and jetpacks...to me this was a winning aspect. However, you decide whether or not you like this or not. The next thing I really liked was the step to grab hold of the huge and exciting new genre of Battle Royale. Now I am not one for Fortnite, PUBG or H1Z1...but I really do enjoy some aspects of Blackout.

Now onto the bad... You will see some reviews saying "best in the series" or "great multiplayer"... I say 'Yeah, nahh'. To me, it feels like Treyarch was very lazy in all three areas of the game - multiplayer, blackout (battle royale) and zombies. In multiplayer, I experienced very similar gameplay to black ops 3, just without the boosters and the most frustrating thing of all was the spawn killing. I played approximately 30 matches and can say in every match I played I got spawn-killed at least 5 times. The battle royale mode, Blackout is very good looking and at first, I really enjoyed the movement and overall gameplay. However, after playing for around 10 matches, the battle royale mode got extremely bland and it took every strand of motivation to keep trying to give it a chance to impress me and hook me...but sadly it did not.

Zombies is fun and I really enjoy it. The new arena based map is very enjoyable and gives the player a lot of satisfaction of searching around for guns while zombies and other bigger foes try to take you down. If I was to rate the zombies experience, it would be an 8, compared to my favourite old school maps like Kino and Moon.

All in all, I am disappointed and will be returning my copy of Black Ops 4. After playing the game for approximately 6 hours and really trying to see the good in this new addition to the Black Ops series, I found that I played everything I needed to in just 6 hours. Oh and p.s I am exceptionally peeved off that Treyarch released the game with a day one update of 55gig. Absolutely disgraceful Treyarch. A pass grade for this attempt Treyarch, but you didn't give us much to play with...literally.

Blackout mode is just a cheap version of Battlefield. The developers promised the "best and most refined mechanics" in the trailer, yet the mechanics are terrible. You can't even destroy any buildings. This game mode lacks vehicle variety. There are no jet fighters, or any planes to be found. Zombie mode lacks innovation. The regular Multiplayer is boring and repetitive. The maps are about the same as the last game, with a fresh coat of paint.

The worst part of this game is that it requires a 50 GB patch to play. That makes the physical copy pointless. You can play multiplayer and Zombies with bots and splitscreen offline. But what's the point of having any of that if you need Internet to play? Not everyone has good internet, and it's pathetic how anti-consumer the developers are. The CODs before WWII didn't required internet. I don't recommend this game at all. Internet required games are a disgrace.

Wow!!! I didn’t think they were able to pull it off but black ops 4 proves that cod can still provide the action and gritty war game that fans want. Blackout is on a whole new level and great addition to the game multiplayer comes back and is still great, and the zombies is fun and challenging like we’ve never seen before. I can’t say this is the best cod game to come out recently but thatWow!!! It’s not that I can’t respect it — it seems to offer decent value in that it’s essentially three different types of shooter in one package, but aside from the new Blackout mode, I’ve had significantly better experiences from many of its competitors. And honestly, Blackout’s main competition is a free-to-play game. It may be better than Fortnite in my opinion, but sixty dollars better? I’m not entirely convinced about that, and without a decent singleplayer campaign attached, it’s a pretty hard sell for anyone who isn’t already a fan.

Despite its generic title Black Ops IV feels like a fresh start for Call of Duty. The multiplayer and the zombie mode is very much the same as always, but with Blackout, Treyarch takes everything that is good with Player Unknown's Battleground and makes it better.

With no campaign to test your trigger finger, the trio of a safe (albeit polished) battle royale, waning multiplayer, and rotting Zombies make BLOPS4 feel like a relic next to a post-Forsaken Destiny 2. [Issue#156, p.94]
