It's too expensive for what it offers. Between the zombies and multiplayer combined it feels much less than previous Treyarch titles. There's no campaign, and Blackout will get boring quick unless they add new modes to it. Without a campaign and achievement hunting, it takes away dozens of hours of quality gameplay where you can sit back relax and enjoy yourself.

God knows how much you're going to have to spend to get DLC items for this game. This game should be $29.99 or at most $39.99.

This is in no way an improvement over BO3, its a downgrade in fact. I guess its better if you like BR but I don't. Healing system is stupid, takes away from the fluidity of combat. The Blackout mode is a ton of fun and I'm actually quite a fan of the gunplay in this game, but the overpowered kill streaks and uneven operative power-ups during regular multiplayer take away from what could've been the best Call of Duty game in years.

If the call of duty franchise needed a colonic this is where you would stick the tube.

First off, why is this called black ops 4? it shares virtually nothing with the previous entries apart from the specialist system which makes a return from the 3rd game and one of the zombies story lines. Besides this the multiplayer which is the bread an butter of any COD game is just all wrong.

First off, why is this called black ops 4? it shares virtually nothing with the previous entries apart from the specialist system which makes a return from the 3rd game and one of the zombies story lines.

Besides this the multiplayer which is the bread an butter of any COD game is just all wrong. While this game was in development someone in a meeting room stood up and suggested that they should tamper with the TTK (Time to kill) which is basically how much damage a player takes before they die, which in the core playlists was as perfect as it could be in my opinion, and instead of throwing pens at him, they said 'Hmmm good idea'. This ruins the core playlists for me so i played the rest of my games in hardcore which is still the same as the previous games. The weapon customization also has a few oddities, for example: in previous games you can equip a lethal grenade and/or tactical which has been replaced by the new specialist gear, which is fine but what is annoying is that it forces you to unlock traditional equipment by achieving a certain level. why would i equip a flash grenade when i can use a 9 bang? or a grenade when i can use battery's specialist grenade?

But the biggest issue by a mile is the micro-transaction system which is so absurd i cant believe practices like this are still legal. First you had their version of fortnite's battlepass system (Fortnite is free to play in case you forgot) which asks you to grind 100+ levels to unlock content you have already bought and my god is the grind is just moronic. I have put 60 hours into the game in various modes and i never even reached halfway on any of the 'seasons'. and then there is their lootbox system which conveniently came out a safe enough distance after launch to avoid making it into reviews. what can i say about this issue that has not already been said? if you employ a lootbox system in a game, it spoils it, simple as that. As soon as i see lootboxes in a game i know each aspect of that game will attempt to annoy me into buying their ridicules RNG 'reward' systems by either locking the best content you have already paid for behind additional pay walls or by forcing you into an excessive grind in order to access them. They may be optional but it impacts the entire game.

As for black out, it is about £50 too expensive, why would i not simply play fortnite or the very promising apex legends which costs £0? Maybe its because it shares the worst aspects of both games, it has fortnite's battlepass system and apex's lootboxes. I cannot comprehend why activation did not make blackout a separate free to play experience. Simply baffling.

Zombies is back but not quite how it was, there is a new slightly confusing perk system and the removal of Juggernaut *RIP*,the maps shipped with the game are actually very good, you have a remake of mob of the dead from black ops 2 with the original crew, and a new storyline and crew which appear on 2 additional maps, one on a titanic style ship and the other in an ancient Rome style gladiator arena. Zombies is really the only redeeming feature here and worth a look once the game goes on sale.

I wont mention the DLC because 1. not all of it is out yet 2. i refused to pay for the season pass so i cant play any of it even if i wanted to.

This feels like a free to play game and a bad one at that, multiplayer has been ruined, the maps have been taken from the recycling bins of much better entries and everything that made the old classics fun has been corrupted or discarded. The only reason this has not scored a 1 or 2 is the average experience of the multiplayer on hardcore play lists and the zombies mode.

    5/10-Avoid for now

6 months in the game, and except for the Zombie mode, the game has not grasped my attention in these months.

First of all, the multiplayer mode is very dull and repetitive. The variation between guns in similar classes are not very distinguishable and they all feel the same. The maps are (of course) the same three-lane maps we are used to in CoD, but except for the remastered ones, they have no height differences, no power spots and little variation. The 'specialist' features and the new equipment method feel very unnatural and seem to only fasten up the gameplay rather than help the tactical gameplay, something I enjoy from CoD games, even if the maps are a bit repetitive

As I am not a regular Battle Royale player, I wanted to hop in Blackout to experience what the fuzz was all about. Although I enjoyed how the map looked and how the different areas are connected, I did not enjoy the mere chaos and tornado of guns, equipment, attachments, vehicles, collectables etc. that are scattered around the map. The randomness of these things made it very hard sometimes to put up a fight with others who had a little bit more luck finding useful stuff. The bad loading of textures sometimes also did not help, as it sometimes blocked my view from enemies. Maybe these are very common issues for beginning Battle Royale players, but it makes it hard to invest time in a mode if I do not enjoy it.

I don't even want to talk about the Black Market. I know why it is in the game, but I can not see these microtransactions succeeding, as I think that few to no players buy CoD points to actually buy that kind of crap. The core playerbase has shrunk drastically and not a lot of people play it for hours a day to actually care about reticles and camos if you have to buy these things.

One thing I actually enjoyed was the Zombies Mode. I have been a fan of Zombies for a long time, but have not picked it up in a while. Even though it was a bit different at first, I have come to enjoy the maps and the variations in classes, perks, guns, elixers, equipment and special weapons you can deploy to suit you own game style. However, I think that the core 'survival' gameplay that the Zombie mode had created, has been fully replaced by the 'do a lot of challenges' gameplay. Getting to round 15-20 without doing challenges in Zombies is easier than ever, while in other Treyarch CoDs getting to these rounds was always a fair challenge. Artificial difficulty have been created in the maps by including a lot of different challenges that make you feel that you sort of 'progress' through the map. The Gauntlets and the display of Easter Egg completions are the ultimate example of how the 'challenges' gameplay has become the dominant force in Zombies. If this is a good or bad thing, I leave it up to the reader.

To end at a positive note, I think that the size of the content that is available in the game should be the standard of AAA games. Even though the execution of this content lacks a lot of polishing and enjoyment, there is a lot to try and accomplish (like the 100% completion and Dark Matter challenge) that can make a game challenging and fun. The drop of the single player campaign was not really a bad move, as it possibly would have ended up as a boring and confusing story as in BO3. The replacement of the campaign with a Battle Royale mode, that can offer almost unlimited re-playability, challenging teamwork and draw people from Fortnite to BO4, was maybe the smartest move. However, the execution of it was poorly done.

I think this is going to be one of the last years of CoD. Activision has destroyed its own franchise with the $60 price tag, the $50 Black Ops Pass and the microtransactions. Because the lifespan of CoD is still only 1 year, few people are going to invest the money and time that is necessary to get the full experience out of the game. I am not determined to buy any CoD anymore if it does not contain Treyarch Zombies in it. Even then, I would have to think about it, as $110 is a lot for a game that you only enjoy for one-third.

I have been playing CoD since its first inception on the PC. After playing the SP I quickly became addicted to the MP aspect of the game. Joining up into clans and having my first taste of competitive gaming was amazing. I loved that I could mod the game to my liking and customize what I wanted in general servers.

The first take away I have with BO4 is that it plays very well on the PC. More so then the last few CoD games. Everything feels natural and I can react accordingly which is great.

The multiplayer feels like a more polished BO3 with references to past BO games. A few of the new maps do feel a bit like repeated versions of other CoD maps though unfortunately.

Updated specialists' abilities and the way you can heal yourself are a good upgrade to the core game.

While Blackout is very polished and retains CoD's signature gunplay, it lacks in bringing any innovation to the already saturated game mode.

The graphics are as good as to be expected. There is nothing that really stands out and feels dated.

The sound design is excellent though. A few corrections here or there and I would say they are perfect for a game like this.

I will admit I have never been a fan of zombies but I do like the 3 campaigns they have. I actually got into them a bit more then I use to. I don't want to say much else or criticize because I know the mode has never been my favorite.

The lack of an SP campaign is the major draw back for a CoD game calling itself BO4.

If they would have just called it, BLACK OPS X... or ULTIMATE BLACK OPS... or seriously anything else I could have been okay with it. There is a VERY small storyline they have that lasts for about 15 minutes through cutscenes that are mixed with bot matches but that is it.

Black Ops had a great storyline going and to say this is its predecessor … even given the multiplayer is just going to far.

Black Ops 4 is almost like a best of all the Black Ops... but not quite.

I feel like this game lacked direction in its making.

It would have been great to have the m-16 from BO1 fighting in the Jungle level against some future solider with the gravity spikes. Instead they just kind of gave up on making it what it truly could have been. A best of collection of all of the Black Ops games we loved.

Never the less... the game is great to play. The multiplayer has the CoD speed and fun you know and love. Blackout is great if you've never played a Battle Royale game before or have been searching for a more twitch based version. Zombies impressed me.

BUY IF: You are a lifelong CoD fan and your main focus is on MP and want a CoD Battle Royale. You will enjoy the gameplay more then ever and if your a PC player, you will enjoy the optimization.

DISREGARD IF: You are a casual CoD fan, like what CoD has to offer with SP and not a fan of Battle Royale. You will find this very repetitive to Black Ops 3, without any SP and no real innovation that stands out.

I hope this was helpful. First review.

This game is a great game. I really like the Blackout and Zombies. However, the Multiplayer is the worst. Infinite Warfare is way better. Zombies could use more maps, because my friend bought all the DLC and only got like 4 maps. Though, if you're going to play a Battle Royale game, BO4 is the way to go.

I had little connectivity issues, graphics aren't great but it's best first person BR I have seen.
Zombies - I don't care, I only play MP and SP in cods.
Multiplayer - it's not quite B03 but better B02. operators - I.e. classes, are OK, seem to be balanced for now, but game is too much team oriented, which cod never was.i still think armour is broken and health system is unnatural for cod.
game is just slightly better cod BO2 and not as jumpy as Bo3.
Sadly campaign is gone, but in all honesty - i didn't like bo3 campaign. Bo2 was good and so was bo1.
Some MP modes like Control is totally broken with easy spawn killing.
This game really needs some polish before I can increase my review score. 5/10 now.

Black Ops 4 in my opinion, brings back the simplistic entertaining gunplay of the Call of Duty of old. Gone are the confusing and unnecessary gameplay gimmicks of the last few installments and back are the simple symmetric and asymmetric maps with killstreaks and no enhanced mobility. I am not the most skilled COD player but I felt that I could hold my own in most game types.
Balancing seems to be much better in this game than previous installments but it still has its issues. If you are someone who is not a fan of leveling up in order to get more powerful guns and better attachments, you will be disappointed, as this staple mechanic is still present. It is not as bad as it has been in previous games but it is still noticeable. However, as I stated earlier balancing is much better and new players will notice that the barrier to entry is much lower than it has been in the past.
Personally, I have never been a fan of the class system and limited the classes I can use to a specific hero, which only two players per team can choose, which also come with their specific abilities. I feel that there is some major rebalancing needed in this aspect and it is a big turnoff for me. I would prefer to not have them at all honestly. But that is about it for the core multiplayer portion of the game.

    Blackout:
Blackout is a ton of fun personally. It is much easier to jump into Blackout for those who are new to battle royal games compared to the other options. Gunplay feels tight and fair, there has never been an instance where I lost a battle and felt like I was cheated in some way. Customization is very limited and most skins are locked behind some very difficult challenges or unrealistically large time-sink requirements. If I am being honest Blackout, in my mind, plays a lot more like Halo than Call of Duty. It is slower paced, it has much more focus on map and power weapon control and communication is necessary for team success. I really enjoy it and it is a very different experience than the classic COD experience. They invested a lot of time into the mode, and while it may not be for everyone, it is definitely a welcome addition.

    Zombies:
As for zombies, I do not have much to say. It's zombies. Map expansion and character dialog do feel much more meaningful and IX specifically has been a blast to play. The maps themselves are pretty creative and unique but still contain the staple zombies gameplay loop. On that same note, I do wish there was some more innovation to the game. There are much more meaningful story elements as I noted earlier and some levels have unique challenges in the form of different zombie types and some bosses and mini-bosses but that is about it. Don't get me wrong, it's still fun to play, but with how many zombie installments we've had, I really wish there was more that made this one stand out.

    Conclusion:
Overall Black Ops 4 is a fine game. The campaign will be missed. (However with how poorly received they have been lately, maybe it is better we didn't get one in the Black Ops storyline). The multiplayer is as fun and fastpaced as it has ever been and balancing, while still not where I should be, is much better. Simplified gameplay has made a welcome return and overall the game is of a decent quality. I stopped taking COD seriously after Black Ops 2 and this game has brought me back into the fold, a commendable feat, considering the many alternatives that are currently in the market. If you miss the old Call of Duty, I suggest giving Black Ops 4 a shot, but maybe try it before buying if possible, it's not for everyone.

The HUGE problem with this game is it's unstable, it's poorly optimized, and has probably one of the worst micro-transaction systems to date. In the Zombies mode, the game will crash EVERY TIME you try to get to a round any higher than 100 without any exploits. The game is also VERY buggy and glitchy, and there was an unacceptably large patch size for launch day with a shocking 50 GB patch size.

With these facts, you can tell this game was very rushed and Activision was desperate to milk the &*%$ out of this game with poor business practices and bad micro-transactions. It would've been much preferable if the game was released in November. It's just unbelievable how such a mess of a product was put out at launch. This game would've been actually GOOD if it were working properly. I really hope for the sake of this franchise that Treyarch listens to the community and fixes the game before the community itself starts leaving.

Wake up and realize this company is Call of Dutys doom and not their saviour. You all bag Infinity Ward but they at least had more than 3 great games. They saved Call of Duty from failure twice when Treyarch flopped (Cod 3, World at War). Yes their games are bad now but you are disrespecting their legacy by rating greedy Treyarch as the best.

Now to the game. No campaign is already a bad mistake. The little tutorial missions are boring and promote characters that have no substance are all 8 year old trash talk.

Multiplayer is Black Ops III without jet packs. Bland map design, poor hit detection, lag, server crashes, bad weapon balance, dodgy specialist gear and abilities and pay to win gamble boxes

Blackout is decent but is also plagued with lag and hit detection problems as well as no replayability after a few games

Never been a big Zombies fan so won't say too much about it but playing a few matches, I felt a good job was done here. Good map design and a variety of things to do will treat the dedicated Zombies fans well

Firstly, I appreciate the developers incorporating the favourites of Black Ops series including Slums. Treyarch has really listened in this area and grabbed hold of what their fans enjoy. I also enjoyed the step back to traditional COD multiplayer to go forward in the series. No more wall running and jetpacks...to me this was a winning aspect. However, you decide whether or not you like this or not. The next thing I really liked was the step to grab hold of the huge and exciting new genre of Battle Royale. Now I am not one for Fortnite, PUBG or H1Z1...but I really do enjoy some aspects of Blackout.

Now onto the bad... You will see some reviews saying "best in the series" or "great multiplayer"... I say 'Yeah, nahh'. To me, it feels like Treyarch was very lazy in all three areas of the game - multiplayer, blackout (battle royale) and zombies. In multiplayer, I experienced very similar gameplay to black ops 3, just without the boosters and the most frustrating thing of all was the spawn killing. I played approximately 30 matches and can say in every match I played I got spawn-killed at least 5 times. The battle royale mode, Blackout is very good looking and at first, I really enjoyed the movement and overall gameplay. However, after playing for around 10 matches, the battle royale mode got extremely bland and it took every strand of motivation to keep trying to give it a chance to impress me and hook me...but sadly it did not.

Zombies is fun and I really enjoy it. The new arena based map is very enjoyable and gives the player a lot of satisfaction of searching around for guns while zombies and other bigger foes try to take you down. If I was to rate the zombies experience, it would be an 8, compared to my favourite old school maps like Kino and Moon.

All in all, I am disappointed and will be returning my copy of Black Ops 4. After playing the game for approximately 6 hours and really trying to see the good in this new addition to the Black Ops series, I found that I played everything I needed to in just 6 hours. Oh and p.s I am exceptionally peeved off that Treyarch released the game with a day one update of 55gig. Absolutely disgraceful Treyarch. A pass grade for this attempt Treyarch, but you didn't give us much to play with...literally.

I admit I haven't played a Call of Duty game since Black Ops 1 on the PS3. Its really frustrating when you look on a kill cam to only see you shot the person in the head two times but to die from them gut shooting you to death. This alone puts it into a different genre all together. Its become a game like Overwatch except not as good. I've never been really into Battle Royal games so Blackout isn't important to me. Zombies is still what you expect which is good. The base traditional MP is way too cartoony now. I can't take it seriously when I pump half a magazine into someone and they don't die. Sure it got rid of the silly insta-regen. Only to make it more ridiculous with this bullet sponge system. Expand

CoD campaigns have just been a formality for me personally, so I wasn't affected by that choice.

Blackout was pretty good to me. I haven't really gotten into the Battle Royal phenomena the last couple of years, but I did buy PUBG and have donated dozens of hours into Fortnite trying to force myself to liking it. The reason I give Blackout my thumbs-up is because it feels more like a legitimate shooter that both PUBG and Fortnite couldn't really do. Although I have now put in about a dozen hours into Blackout, it seems I will never fully feel passionate about a Battle Royal gamemode. It's fun every once in a while, but not why I play FPS games.

Multiplayer is where I am conflicted. Ran into very few errors this past 6 days, other than network errors, but still ahead of most games in this league on opening week. Treyarch has completely ditched the wall-running and double-jumps, and that's how I like it. I got pretty competitive with BlOps3, so I got used to the movement there, but I now know this is what I prefer. As for the classes... meh. They really feel unfocused. To keep classes in a game like this balanced, you gotta be all in or not at all, and it felt like Treyarch went in half-way. It also feels like they are trying to add some "teamwork" and tactics in a game that is primarily a twitch-shooter. There is a game-mode like Counterstrike where you lose your abilities and just buy better guns and perks as the matches go on, but I kind of doubt there will always be a big pool of players lasting on that. Collision still seems a bit off, which makes me think this will never be a highly game for me as it's not sharp enough. But I had a good time. Just don't think I'll be playing this game at all in six months... So overall, do feel like a 7 out of 10 fits this game about right. I'll also be purchasing Battlefield V, so time will tell which one I will like more.

I will say that buying this game on disc opening day really accentuates the growing problem with our modern physical game-copies: even with the disc, I had to download somewhere close to 90 GB over my internet connection. I imagine that size will grow as the game goes through updates. Since you can't pick what downloads first, I was only able to play Blackout that first night. I think it's almost time that physical game-copies need to start coming as some sort of solid-state drives that wouldn't require downloading the entire game to the system's SSD.

*EDIT*: Well now one week passed by most people already hit prestige one and two and the weapon meta is here. And by god is it broken. I like to play with lmgs cause they have a nice kickback and sound good and of course cause i have a small dick. Guess i can go **** myself because by now people play only mp or shotgun. I can understand that its "good gameplay" if someone ambushes me and kills me with a knife. Im ok with that. But if i get melted by someone dual wielding a mp and the only way to counter is to not play guns i like, thats just annoying and bad balance.

Anyway. It serously feels like something new in this goddamn franchise. Because while everything after ghosts seriously didnt do anything new. This game atleast tries to go in a new direction.
Health regeneration is gone which is good because now health atleast gets a bit more tactical. Operators can now only picked by one team member which gives every operator an important role and more importance for the team. The weapons feel nice and have the right kick behind it, but there arent too many. Hopefully they add more, but it will be locked behind dlc because this is Activision.

Zombie mode is were Treyarch keeps shining imo and while i havent played the zombie maps that much yet, i already like them.

Listen. This is Cod. What do you expect? Change? They tried and im more then impressed, keeping in mind that ghosts, aw, iw and ww2 were complete horse s**it, this atleast doesnt stink so much. Its fun, im having fun and thats all i ask for tbh. ITs ok for a cod game.

Still it doesnt justify trashing the campaign. I hope they just acidentally f**ed up and didnt have the time to fix it. But it probably was greed, and waht they could do.

The game comes with 16 maps at release compared to the normal 13, three zombies maps instead of one, and of course battle royale. But, all this extra multiplayer content comes at the expense of a single player campaign.

As for multiplayer, outside of a few changes to health and specialists, there's nothing new, and the changes aren't exactly for the better or may not appeal to the casual audience. The changes made such as the removal of auto health regeneration and only allowing one of each specialist per team may turn off the casual player base. Streaks are copied from previous titles with nothing new or exciting. The maps follow the same three lane design that has been overused throughout recent titles making them bland and repetitive. BO4 multiplayer does enough to separate itself from previous entries, but whether these changes are good or not have yet to be seen.

CoD finally has battle royale, Blackout. The mode itself is well done, but it does nothing for the battle royale genre itself copying mostly from PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. It does have some unique gimmicks though to help it standout such as famous maps from previous Black Ops titles, Black Ops campaign and zombie characters, and even a few zombie locations with AI zombies that you have to deal with, but as for adding and expanding the BR genre, it does nothing special. Overall, it's an enjoyable BR experience due to its optimization and performance. Casual fans that may not have enjoyed PUBG and other hardcore BR games may enjoy Blackout far more than other hardcore battle royales while still offering a somewhat serious FPS that may pull fans away from the silly and cartoon themed Fortnite BR., but hardcore BR fans may still prefer the realism of PUBG or the uniqueness of Fortnite more. But overall, it's an enjoyable experience that you will definitely sink your time into if you are into battle royales.

Zombies has been my favorite experience of BO4 so far. Offering the most maps at release than any other CoD, zombies is going to pull in the CoD zombies fan base hard. The mode is definitely more difficult than previous zombie modes which may turn off the casual fan base that grew in love with BO3 and IW zombies, but I welcome the challenge of bettering myself at the mode.

CoD continues to still push the Season Pass, however, in the form of the Black Ops Pass. The Black Ops Pass offers a bonus zombies map at release in Classified which is a remake of Five from Black Ops 2 and 12 multiplayer maps, 4 less than the usual Season Pass, while still maintaining the $50 price tag. It also includes character skins for Blackout BR. If you are a zombies fan then the BOP will definitely be worth it, but fans of multiplayer are stuck with 4 less maps than usual in the least hyped mode of the game. As for Blackout fans, it only offers skins. So unless you are a zombies fan, the Black Ops Pass does not seem worth it.

As a whole, Black Ops 4 is a decent entry into the CoD franchise. It does enough to pull in the battle royale and zombies fans, but fans of multiplayer have been given the short end of the stick with campaign fans left with nothing but specialist training missions. I give Multiplayer a 6/10, Blackout a 7/10, and zombies an 8/10 for a combined score of 7/10.

Black Ops 4 follows the same COD formula with exception to the new Battle Royal mode, which is an obvious rip-off of other successful battle royal games. I get that some players might not like it, and that some think there's still too much sci-fi going on. I like it. I do miss a single-player campaign though, which has been sacrificed for the focus of online multiplayer, which is what this game is all about. It's still character-based abilities with a familiar customisation of weapons and gadgets. The maps are all really good and updates keep coming. You get cosmetics like skins, camouflage and stickers by normal gameplay progress, as long as events are up, and most look really good. It's a solid buy which you at least should get at a seasonal discount at this point, especially if you and your friends plan on getting something new to play.

I'm not a hardcore try hard player, but I've been playing most of these games, and Black Ops 4 is breath of fresh air. Not the sensation of that time when we all played Modern Warfare 2, but a nod towards that time saying "Ok, yeah we're stepping back a bit to resemble that". I found it easier to play as a senior player too, maybe because of the exclusion of wall-running and all that, but also because of how you still can get top Killstreaks with a little bit of luck and good effort. So, if you liked the old games, this flirts with you.

(Also, there's Blackout. Which is a battle royale setup. I've only played it a handfull of times and twas a new experience for me. Quite fun. I haven't played much Fortnite, PUBG or whatever so I can't compare that much, but from what I hear through my friends they really like it by comparison. My review here aims towards the core gameplay, playing mostly Domination, Team Deathmatch and the usual stuff.)

While initially disappointed to hear there would not be a single player campaign, the offerings provided in the multiplayer alone is well worth the price of admission. I have never clicked with the PUBG/Fortnite style gameplay but am enjoying blackout mode.

With all the tweaks, adjustment, fluidity, and removal of characters flying all around the screen it has honed the gameplay performance. The added feature of non-regenerating health makes it feel more tactical allowing for various maneuver, strategy, and a stronger sense of teamwork. It is not Rainbow Six: Siege levels but much more than previous installments.

EDIT: Since the micro transaction kicked in, I have lowered my score from a 8 to a 5. I can't believe the grind for the simplest thing or paying a dollar for a single red pixel.

I hate to say this but this game was SEVERELY hindered with boots on the ground; the specialists and boots on the ground are not as fun than in bops 3. It's almost as if this game was intended to be black ops 3, and they flip flopped iterations with 4. I mean it's literally the same specialists, with one new generic ability. and some that are score streaks in other cod... The maps are cluttered and feel like mazes, one thing all other black ops has are open maps whether medium or large. I also feel like the guns have the same blueprints as other black ops guns, they just renamed them and made them sound different.. (ak?.. skorpion like smg?). Bottomline is you've seen 75%-90% of the game before in previous iterations. I'll skip reviewing blackout, never been a fan...but..um.. campers..getting shot from behind..so yeah. And even after all that trashing, this is still a decent game, especially if you're looking for a casual multiplayer game to pour hours in that has some addictive elements. If over watch and black ops sound good to you, then this is the game for you, if you're looking for innovation to this franchise, look elsewhere. Btw... ignore all these 0's and 10's, they're clearly the vocal minority. Expand

The zombies mode is quite developed but I feel it's way too messy. I miss those of World at War, simple and dark maps without too much useless complications where you really feel that dark vibe. Here it looks more like Disneyland, and that's the case for several previous CoDs as well.

In what regards the multiplayer, it's really nothing really new nor better than before. I feel like playing Black Ops 3 without the jetpacks, in a slight worse quality actually. That being said, it's still enjoyable and I still play it regularly. I just really hate this carnival vibe with all those crazy camos and unrealistic childish things. We'll see if MW2019 does better, because it's now quite a while that CoD doesn't improve anymore.

I really thing this game is a step back.

install from disc takes about 3 hours + updates, so it might be several hours before you are actually playing...

the graphics look good, the controls handle well, and there are tons of customization options, but it still feels disappointing...

while some games have too much hand-holding, this game has no hand-holding, and very vague tutorials; even for a veteran gamer it is a bit confusing getting into your first mission...

a few modes to choose from with little-to-no explanation, and a few locked modes also with no description what they are or why they are locked leads to trial by fire, and quick, confusing deaths - especially if you try to jump into online multiplayer...

the closest thing to single player, Zombies, has a Resident Evil meets Left 4 Dead feel to it, but even on Casual is pretty difficult and confusing... why i would run out of ammo so fast and have no idea what my objective was, on easy mode, is beyond me...

after some online research i found out i had to earn points to open doors (point-gates), to get artifacts, to unlock more point-gates, rinse-repeat; and points i earn also unleash new waves of zombies, upping the difficulty…

only by looking online did i find out that i could add AI teammates, called Bots, to my squad; adding Bots only seems to complicate things more, even though the Bots have pretty competent AI, you cannot command them in any way at all, they are liable to steal your kills/points and may or may not open doors for you, but they will definitely raise the wave difficulty fast, potentially leading you to quicker deaths...

Zombies only starts with three maps: Titanic, Alcatraz, and Roman Coliseum... Titanic offers some exploration, but feels limited fast; the Coliseum is immediately claustrophobic and annoying, this type of level design really doesn't belong in a shooter, if it wasn't confined enough, walls of flames lock you into close quarters with dozens of zombies and limited ammo almost immediately, baffling considering melee combat is so limited; Alcatraz looks good and provides some room for exploration, but is also frustratingly linear, repetitive and overwhelming...

my few attempts to join online multiplayer took quite a bit of settings guess-work, loading and holding screens (15 minutes) only to be instantly killed over and over (within 30 seconds or less) while i had no idea what the heck was happening, where i was supposed to go, who was on my team, who was shooting me, what was the objective, etc... i found that pretty frustrating as i'm sure did my teammates, whoever they were...

i am not completely incompetent at shooters; i've completed Doom, Destiny, Wolfenstein, Battlefield, previous CoD's; but man, getting online here is just instant death and frustration; not motivated to figure out what went wrong, why, or how to improve....

you can tell a lot of work went into this game, but it seems like it was trying to appeal exclusively to multiplayer online shooter savvy gamers so much that it leaves any newcomers or solo players completely left out; it is customizable, modal, and online-centric to a fault: it's hard to find a fun entry point or any sense of direction as a casual gamer looking for a story or campaign...

comparatively, i really enjoyed the single player campaign of the last Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare; unfortunately this new CoD is clearly not meant for gamers like me, nothing like that experience can be found here...

i just kind of don't care if i never play this again after one frustrating night, no wonder the price dropped to $39 so fast..

anyone looking for a fun, single-player shooter, i could easily recommend recent Doom, Wolfenstein, Resident Evil releases over this

And battle royale does get boring after some time. Especially since there is only one map (it is a good map, but still - it gets repetitive).
So if your fine forking up the price to just play the battle royale, you will probably enjoy this. But for me, ultimately it feelt like it was not worth the price. And they seem to have no plans on expanding on it either. This game should have been 30 USD, or it should have had a good singleplayer experience. Which is why I can only give it a 5/10 - it just is not worth the asking price

My favorite game mode right now is gun game and it's truly great and reminds me a lot of Bo3. Though Bo4 did try to implement something new - "blackout" so far i have mixed opinions, it can be very fun but things like looting bags (how long it takes) and frame rate dips need to be addressed, it's clear it does need a bit of polishing.

Moving onto 'Blackout', which is honestly still a flaming hot piece of garbage, but nonetheless I'd much rather play that than Fortnite.

Zombies is where I am giving the game a 5/10. Only because no matter what, Zombies will always hold a special place in my heart. Even if Activision love being tight-asses with their DLC, I will always play the Black Ops series just for that.

IN CONCLUSION: Don't expect anything 'different' in this game, just Black Ops 3.1 with no moon-jumping.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a very odd take on the Black Ops series. The game fells almost like a free-to-play app. The removal of a campaign and the addition of a battle royale makes Black Ops 4 feel way different than it's previous installments. It was well received when it was first announced back in May 2018, getting everyone hyped for a new Call of Duty. When it first came out in October, the game was praised for it's intense gameplay and its cool new battle royale, but the game's glory didn't last for long. The graphics from the new engine BO4 ran on was a bit potato compared to BO3. The DLC rolled in, and the hate began to hit real hard after that. A lot, and I mean a lot of the DLC was "recycled content", consisting of guns from older CoD's, and re-used zombies maps with a "new story", and the return of supply drops; Because you can't make a Call of Duty game without micro-transactions. Blood of the Dead, Ancient Evil, Alpha Omega, and Voyage of Despair were very big let downs and were developed with the intention to make them "better than ever." The guns in previous Call of Duty's were balanced very well between each other, and while the base guns that don't require a supply drop to get, the other guns are very pay-to-win. Although some are okay (And some suck), others are very unbalanced and unfair at times. The S6 Stingray, AN-94, Grav, and Peacekeeper are all pretty powerful, and you don't even need a supply drop for the Grav. The Locus is a re-used weapon as well, but it's "meh", and the Vendetta is weak. The point is, Black Ops 4 is a game that was primarily made to compete against other Triple A titles and for nostalgia. I can't finish this review without talking about Tag Der Toten. In BO3, the final map to end it all was supposed to be Revelations, but everyone paniced, so Treyarch had to continue the Zombies story for just a little longer. Tag Der Toten (Day of the Dead) was named to be the opposite of Nacht Der Untoten (Night of the Living Dead), which was the first zombies map ever. The map is a re-master of Call of the Dead and takes place in the summertime, rather than winter (It's still cold). The map has the Victis crew (From Tranzit) as the last crew to ever see. The map is overall a great ending to a well-loved series, and I for one think that even though Black Ops has some pretty bad flaws, doesn't make it terrible enough to stop playing. Expand

One of the worst CoDs ever. Worst MTX we have ever seen and many unnecessary new features were added that make the game just worse (for example 150 health and self healing). Also the maps are all pretty bad exept the remastered ones which is pretty sad. In addition to that there was almost none new content after launch. Only good thing is the movement and the BR mode.

Blackout was one of the better parts of the game and it was a really good spin on the battle royale franchise. Though I didn’t play it a whole bunch because I wasn’t into BR. But I did try it a few times and it was good.

Last but not least there’s zombies , i feel like zombies was a really fun game mode with new storyline and a new way to play it. Though not as good as black ops 3 , it still had a very good style of game play that I enjoyed. I think the one thing that disappointed everyone was the micro transactions , but what did you expect. It is activision i mean. They will always do this with every CoD. But it wasn’t as bad as Bo3 ( in bo3 there were like 50+ weapons in supply drops compared to now where there’s only around 7 or 10 ).

Would be higher if the micro transaction system wasn’t so anti consumer From the beginning. This game in its entirety would be a 9 if it included a true campaign and had a better micro transaction system from the start.

Honestly, ever since “pick a weapon bribe” was added, the game has been a pay-to-win festival. Don’t buy this game in 2020. Black ops Cold War is a far superior game. Expand

I'm not going to give this a 10 out of 10 for anyone who thinks it is not a perfect game but it is a fun game multiplayer has Bud, good gunplay Malaysian some stuff can be born William a lot time the map design is really restrictive an annoying multiplayer has really good Gunplay but yeah the maps suck but Gunplay is good to tell the story I'm going to have to knock it down a lot of points Casino doesn't have a campaign and stuff with yeah you have to have a campaign zombies really fun adventuresome people say it's trash and stuff but it's not it's fun enjoyable 9 probably the best one the other Maps layout of kind of mazes what do you know the layout real story is amazing the characters are memorable a lot of people pissed off that this is where the story ended but yeah I didn't play the original story so I can comment on that zombies the Easter one do blackout black
Elders enjoyable it's just battle royale no looking back on this in 2021 by the way I was supposed actuator but it's okay it's realistic ish and it's just enjoyable they could have gone the way of pubg and they kind of did with stupid microtransactions and I'm sorry I can never give any card a 10 out of 10 except for the older games cuz it's freaking microtransactions

Tried out Black Ops 4 after skipping Black Ops 3 in the series. Don’t like that multiplayer has armor now Graphics still don’t look good. There is no campaign. Hardly played this game.

The MP was pretty solid and blackout was a bit underrated, I preferred it over Warzone. Zombies were very bland and no story is an insult.

Multiplayer is what I hoped most for and I got the short end of the stick. It just takes way to long to level up weapons and, player level. Zombies and blackout are worth it but multiplayer weights it down.

I got bored of this real quick, the characters are more unique which was cool but this game is just off in a lot of places, notably how it takes four headshots to kill a person, the characters in this game are the definition of damage sponges, oh yeah and the BR mode was just straight up bad ngl. overall mid as ****

Answer: 75 characters is between 10 words and 19 words with spaces included in the character count. If spaces are not included in the character count, then 75 characters is between 12 words and 25 words.

very fun multiplayer that can make hours go by fast. Also blackout was one of the only battle royales I enjoyed, even better with Avenged Sevenfold on the track. Lack of story mode for a 60 dollar game is bad though, even a simple story would be already enough.

It’s not that I can’t respect it — it seems to offer decent value in that it’s essentially three different types of shooter in one package, but aside from the new Blackout mode, I’ve had significantly better experiences from many of its competitors. And honestly, Blackout’s main competition is a free-to-play game. It may be better than Fortnite in my opinion, but sixty dollars better? I’m not entirely convinced about that, and without a decent singleplayer campaign attached, it’s a pretty hard sell for anyone who isn’t already a fan.

Despite its generic title Black Ops IV feels like a fresh start for Call of Duty. The multiplayer and the zombie mode is very much the same as always, but with Blackout, Treyarch takes everything that is good with Player Unknown's Battleground and makes it better.

With no campaign to test your trigger finger, the trio of a safe (albeit polished) battle royale, waning multiplayer, and rotting Zombies make BLOPS4 feel like a relic next to a post-Forsaken Destiny 2. [Issue#156, p.94]
