First Call of Duty game I've bough in maybe 10 years.. I fell outta love with the horrible groundhog day style multiplayer... I dig its jumped on the Battle Royal bandwagon but gotta say they pulled it off... fills the gap if you want something a little more serious than fortnite but not quite a sim like as Pubg.

    CONS
    - Constantly crashes (it's beyond ridiculous for such a big company)
    - HUD is clumsy as **** (you get tiny arrows to see your friends in the map...they are really tiny and you see them ONLY if they are not in your camera's direction.
    - Fans knows there is no minimap, but why indicate poorly players positions ? Just go full "hardcore" or casual, but not a weird clumsy mix between both. (Tiny arrows when you look sideways...)

    - Interface clumsy as well ( Mode selection actually mixes between modes, maps, AND difficulty, all of them presented the same way with banners). Do you even game design ?

    - Secrets are fun...but when EVERYTHING is secret it just becomes retarded. Do you expect your players to dive into the code or something ? We want to play, not to get into Matrix. We need both classic objectives and secrets. Again. Game Design.

    - Not enough content for the price. (not mentioning bugs...)

    - Badly optimised.

    - Last but not least : Limited lifespan. When you get to wave 34, waves are so long you just want to turn off your PC and go play outside. It has no point, no endgame objectives. You'll get all possible upgrades by wave 35. Do it once and get bored.

TLDR : Unstable game, too expensive, not enough content, clumsy interface and HUD..

Being a fan of the original Black Ops, and even BO2, I am not impressed with CoD:BO4. I personally find the BF4 Frostbyte engine from 2013 (!) more appealing than what BO4 presents. That is true for ingame, while the video sequences in BO4 are much more realistic. The gameplay is 100% arcade style, while the multiplayer maps are pure arenas instead of "combat areals", not to speak about the realism (bullet drop etc.). The awful color palette hurts the gameplay as well, not only regarding the avatars, but also the environment. Everything looks like in Ken & Barbie land, even the power ups and rewards.

To me, there is very limited bonding with classics like BO1-2, BO4 is more like a chimera from Blizzard's Overwatch and the original Black Ops.

Although the game does not include a single player campaign, there is a mode called Specialist HQ that is basically a tutorial for each specialist with each having a backstory.

I personally didn't play much of the previous Zombies, but based on other sites, it looks like they've beefed it up considerably with more play styles, 2 storylines, and 3 maps.

Finally there is Blackout which is very similar to PUBG, but stable. They've added perks (time limited when in use) to find as well. The map includes locations of previous COD games. They've also got a fun area with zombies that they threw into the mix. The additions work quite well and doesn't take away from the Battle Royale experience.

As with any new game, there are some tweaks that need to be made. Bad respawns in multiplayer. The base game is the standard $60, but I spent $100 for the deluxe digital edition. I also had to purchase Playstation Plus. So be prepared to spend some money at the get go if this is your first go around with COD.

I haven't seen a DLC ever worth the $30/$40, and my expectations are low for BO4 to be any different. If Treyarch is going to join the Battle Royale realm, I expect consistent content updates similar to Fortnite. But as I've said, my expectations are low.

If you are a fan of multiplayer gaming, you'll enjoy this game. $60 is ok to spend on this especially if you don't typically play with friends. If you do, then expect to put money down for the DLC as well unless you expect all your friends to never go beyond the base game. I enjoy it. I play on my own and sometimes with friends. Spending $160 (Deluxe + PS Plus) hurt, and although there is decent amount of content on the DLC, I hope for content updates for all players for at least Blackout. Hoping for the best, but expecting the worst.

Game is honestly very surprising to me. Didn't really expect it to be this good. It's got 3 modes that are all fun and replayable, no campaign so they can focus more on the other modes, and its very fun to play with friends. If you've got the console (or a PC that can run it), if you've got the money, I think it's all worth it.

Fortnite and PUBG have failed to give me that Battle Royal rush, but when I played Blackout, I began to have hours and hours played in solo and duo matches. So while I’m having a blast in Blackout on the gamefly rental, I’m definitely not buying just for that. Many of us asked for a remake, so they released remastered levels. Thanks Treyarch!
The multiplayer is back to how it used to be. Smaller maps, faster paced with no wall jumps, booster packs, etc. The guns are normal guns, and not unrealistic. Colours are bright, so it's easier to see, just like in the original Black Ops. They introduced player types, similar to Overwatch, which gives you a different advantage for each player. I will be logging many hours into this multiplayer. I haven't enjoyed many of the latest Call of Duty games, since Black Ops 2.

As for the lack of a campaign mode. Who cares? They were only around 5 hours to beat anyways. The majority of COD fans want zombies, and multiplayer. All Treyarch did was focus on what the fans want! This is Treyarch's bread and butter.

For Zombies, I have not enjoyed ANY zombies maps since the original Black Ops. I've played all 4 maps. (Including the Pentagon remake from BO1... Thanks Treyarch!). All 4 of these maps were great! The arena one was extremely fun. They are brighter colours, and more space to escape zombies. You start with more health than in previous games, which enhances the experience. No more 10 to 15 minute matches, and wasting your time having to restart, after just getting into the groove of a match. This way you can really have a meaningful match each time you play!

For the blackout mode, they replaced the campaign with this. Doesn't that make sense though, seeing as this is the type of game mode that people enjoy to play right now. Fortnight and PUBG are some of the most popular games, and Black Ops 4 is giving you a superior experience in this regard.

All in all, don't listen to all the haters. Most negative reviews are strictly because it didn't have a campaign mode. How can you negatively rate a game for what it doesn't have? You should only rate it on what it DOES have. I will take blackout mode, over Campaign mode any day of the week. There's endless story style games out there.

This is an extremely fun game, and I would definitely suggest getting it, especially if you enjoyed the original Black Ops! This game was made for fans!

For the lack of a story/campaign they do offer a small story to get use to the character that are available at launch. The black-op mode is by far the best thing this game has simply because it's a grown up version of fortnite. A squad of your friends can make this mode that much worth it for your experience. The multiplayer version of the game is the same as before but the beauty of it is all everything you do matters and at least for me no more running and gunning. This came as a disappointment to me, because while I love myself a good multiplayer shooter from time to time (Overwatch, Titanfall 2), my heart will always belong to single player experiences. Some may be fans of Battle Royale games, but here's the kicker:

Battle royale takes almost no time to develop. After Epic Games realized that Fortnite: Save The World was a sinking ship, they threw together a battle royale mode in 2 months. 2 MONTHS. This combined with the fact that Blackout already incorporates assets from previous games in the franchise makes me wonder: Why did this take up SO MUCH development time that the campaign was scrapped?

Of course, this would have been excusable had Blackout been refreshing to play. After 5 or so matches, you have done everything that the game has to offer. This is what plagues battle royale games, the repetitiveness and lack of replayability.

Onto the multiplayer, which, in my opinion, is some of the worst the series has to offer.

Map design is a flop this time around, with the same boring, three-lane maps that we have seen since modern warfare. Not only do all of these maps play the same, too many of them are blatantly copy-pasted from other games. A majority of them feel as if they were designed for advanced movement, but sometime in the development cycle, the developers realized their mistake, removed the jetpacks, and the maps were left to suffer.

The overwhelming majority of the guns are all samey as well, both from an audio and visual standpoint. Now, I understand that the series must have similar weapons that are consistent between entries, but there could have been more effort to inject some creativity into the designs of the weapons. Like them or not, advanced warfare and infinite warfare had some of the most creative weapons in the series, because the futuristic setting gave them more creative freedom.

The hero-shooter esque class system is also a miss, because it forces COD in the direction of a hero-shooter, but doesn't do so fully, and we are left with a half-baked experience that feels generally unpolished and unbalanced. Why do ability cooldowns not reset to zero when changing rounds? Why are there almost no supportive roles? Why is teamwork not a large enough factor in fights? Why are there no ability interactions/combinations? Why do all of the characters look the same, not allowing you judge how to approach each fight? Why is the Time to kill too high for a hero-shooter, but too low for a Call of Duty game? These were just some of the questions that I had to ask myself as I played, and i'm sure you will ask these questions as well.

The zombies, as expected, is a great addition. It meets, if not exceeds the footprint that BO3 left behind. There are just the right amount of easter eggs, lore, and character interactions that add up to a pleasant experience that will be dug into and expanded upon as the next year progresses. And, 3 maps at launch is just the icing on the cake, it's the cherry on top.

Next up: the monetization. The Black ops Pass is inexcusable, especially since we are in an era when consumers are as educated as we will ever be about the impact that companies such as EA and Activision are putting on the gaming industry.

Having convenient spending options for your consumers will never be a bad thing, and Activision has overwhelmingly demonstrated this with the Black ops Pass. DLC has always been a feature in COD, and it has been passable up until this point. With the black ops pass, it's all or nothing, either you're in, or you're out. You can either shell out 50 dollars, or you get virtually no content on the side. This begs a couple of questions:

Why couldn't we have had smaller, yet individual DLCs, priced at 3.99 to 9.99, for each map pack/zombies map/weapon bundle?
Why does Activision constantly screw over their consumer base?

    A few other, minor complaints:
-UI is bland, and the cursor on PS4 is unnecessary
    -Same overall artstyle/engine as BO3
-Lack of classes/characters compared to other hero-shooters

Overall, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is another entry in the COD franchise, though its designers want it to be everything but, including Fortnite, CS:GO, Overwatch, and Rainbow 6: Seige. It ends up being a jack of all trades, and master of none, if you will.

    MP- 1
    Blackout- 2
    Zombies- 8
    Monetization- 0

    Overall rating- 2/10

There is none of the innovation or creativity we usually see from Treyarch. Its a Microtransaction vehicle meant to see if they can get away with offering very little and making the usual CoD money.

There are still hit detection and latency issues with Treyarch releases you dont see in other CoD games.

Treyarch still has the best gun play but the new ttk plus the bad hit detection ruins what could have been a positive.

Instead of being the usual highlight of the franchise, Black Ops 4 is not only forgettable, but unfocused and a step back for the series.

If you MUST buy it, wait a week, There will be piles of "used" copies everywhere......

Bl Ops 4 might end up being more forgettable the CoD "Ghosts" It feels like a soulless cash grab.

Itll be the first CoD since before Modern Warfare, that i dont keep on my shelf forever.

Being Part of the 30% that actually likes Story mode in Cod Games this game is just a true disappointment for the franchise for me.
On a up note the game runs far better than Cod WW2 but will crash multiple times a day. This is due to the outdated and unstable game engine that only gets patches instead of being upgraded. If this franchise is to continue they will need a new game engine as their competitors have already made innovations in this regard.

I would give this game 7.8 out of 10.

I have been playing CoD since its first inception on the PC. After playing the SP I quickly became addicted to the MP aspect of the game. Joining up into clans and having my first taste of competitive gaming was amazing. I loved that I could mod the game to my liking and customize what I wanted in general servers.

The first take away I have with BO4 is that it plays very well on the PC. More so then the last few CoD games. Everything feels natural and I can react accordingly which is great.

The multiplayer feels like a more polished BO3 with references to past BO games. A few of the new maps do feel a bit like repeated versions of other CoD maps though unfortunately.

Updated specialists' abilities and the way you can heal yourself are a good upgrade to the core game.

While Blackout is very polished and retains CoD's signature gunplay, it lacks in bringing any innovation to the already saturated game mode.

The graphics are as good as to be expected. There is nothing that really stands out and feels dated.

The sound design is excellent though. A few corrections here or there and I would say they are perfect for a game like this.

I will admit I have never been a fan of zombies but I do like the 3 campaigns they have. I actually got into them a bit more then I use to. I don't want to say much else or criticize because I know the mode has never been my favorite.

The lack of an SP campaign is the major draw back for a CoD game calling itself BO4.

If they would have just called it, BLACK OPS X... or ULTIMATE BLACK OPS... or seriously anything else I could have been okay with it. There is a VERY small storyline they have that lasts for about 15 minutes through cutscenes that are mixed with bot matches but that is it.

Black Ops had a great storyline going and to say this is its predecessor … even given the multiplayer is just going to far.

Black Ops 4 is almost like a best of all the Black Ops... but not quite.

I feel like this game lacked direction in its making.

It would have been great to have the m-16 from BO1 fighting in the Jungle level against some future solider with the gravity spikes. Instead they just kind of gave up on making it what it truly could have been. A best of collection of all of the Black Ops games we loved.

Never the less... the game is great to play. The multiplayer has the CoD speed and fun you know and love. Blackout is great if you've never played a Battle Royale game before or have been searching for a more twitch based version. Zombies impressed me.

BUY IF: You are a lifelong CoD fan and your main focus is on MP and want a CoD Battle Royale. You will enjoy the gameplay more then ever and if your a PC player, you will enjoy the optimization.

DISREGARD IF: You are a casual CoD fan, like what CoD has to offer with SP and not a fan of Battle Royale. You will find this very repetitive to Black Ops 3, without any SP and no real innovation that stands out.

I hope this was helpful. First review.

So I'm not totally in to the whole battle-royale thing, but that was probably the better part of this game. Known as Blackout, it adds the Call of Duty twist to an already tired and oversaturated genre. I wouldn't call it new and fresh by any means, it's more like 'fresh' in the way food is 'fresh' in the bargain bin at your local supermarket. It gets old quick.
Zombies - I'll be honest, I barely tried. I got bored during Black Ops 3 Zombies and I don't see it getting any better.
Multiplayer - Oh my god the multiplayer. I hated every minute of it, the gunplay felt clunkier than a PS2 game, 6-7 body shots do absolutely nothing and I hated the new healing yourself aspect. The specialist abilities were boring and most of them recycled from the last game. I hated every moment of it.

In summary, this game is like watching a train derail in slow motion. Its painful. If you are hugely dedicated to Call of Duty, you will get this no matter what. If you are a normal gamer, you will probably get tired of this annual franchise very quickly.

They could possibly tweak the merit system just a bit to give out damage merit for those that get assists or aid in taking a player down and maybe make it a bit easier to track a supply drop. Adding zombies was genius, and adding more events to the BR mode from time to time would be fun!
All the multiplayer modes are totally solid. Heist is an interesting mode, but I usually just stick with the classic old TD or KC. Also like the single player tutorial mode for each of the specialist so you can decide which one you like. super big on the zombie mode but me and my wife have fun with it as you can add AI bots that seem to be not as dumb as I thought they would be.
Does anyone even play a campaign anymore? I haven't played one in years. I guess if that is all I came for I would be a bit disappointed like some people are.

The spawns, in-game audio and hit detection all suck. It feels like I need ADHD to enjoy the pace. I can't go around the maps at a steady pace and try to strategize without being shot from behind every 5 seconds. Also, my friends and I are hardcore players and every year it seems like the hardcore community gets screwed. We just want to play hardcore capture the flag and the Black Ops series has always had that game mode as well as being the best series in the franchise. So we believed BO4 would be good and like the others in the past, but we were wrong. There's usually a campaign to fall back on, but not this time. This game in particular just feels like a mashup of other games - not Call of Duty. I admit I'm an older player but it's obvious they're catering to the younger generation and turning their back on the older players who got them rich and famous to begin with. They've simply gone away with what made Call of Duty fun and original in the first place. I get that you can't just remake the same game all the time, but how about spending time on making a good quality game instead of spitting one out every year like Madden. Or at least show some good faith by remastering your older games for the older players who had fun playing those games. You would have plenty of people buying BO1, BO2, MW2 and WaW if they were remastered. You can still find games to play on MW remastered. I hate saying this, but I won't be buying another Call of Duty game unless it's a remaster or if major quality changes are made. Until that happens, I'm moving on. It's unfortunate but I had fun (for the most part) while it lasted. Don't believe all the paid positive reviews. Expand

Been a massive cod fan since the original cod. Played them all and have felt the worst ones were the more recent entries. But Bops4 changed everything.

Campaign has finally been stripped away. Cods campaigns have been soulless for years now. Tacked on 6 hour story mode with bad a.i. This seems to be the problem with all the negative reviews. Don't mind them. There are 3 modes.

There are 3 modes. Blackout being the most hyped, lives up to all expectations and more. Fast fluid cod gameplay. Sublime movement. Lots of gadgets and toys to play with. And land, sea and air vehicles to mess around on. This is the pinnacle of BR gaming imo.

Zombies is back! As in the real one.......as in Treyarch Zombies. Nobody does it better. This year we have 3 big beautiful maps to explore. And they are all brimming with fun weapons, toys, secrets, missions, glorious visuals, seriously it's stunning. New modes are available too.

Multiplayer, for me, is the best cod i've played since bops1. Which was my favourite cod ever. This is incredible. 9 new maps. I'd say honestly after 20 hours of play in this mode, 7 of them are amazing pure fun. Most importantly the map layouts are masterfully crafted. The other 2 maps aren't even bad. They are good. But the others are almost perfect. To make up the numbers 4 classics return including slums and jungle. These maps are as good as they've ever been. Nuketown surely on the way shortly as well.

This year cod has a bigger emphasis on class ability use. Almost becoming a 'very lite' hero shooter. And it's a very welcome change. Healing in fights is now essential and adds a new layer to gameplay. There is a couple new modes added this year. One of which turns the game into a counter-strike type of game. Players start with a pistol and some money and must buy weapons, gadgets and abilities as rounds move on. This has become an addiction for me today.

I have been blown away by the quality in this years cod. All the modes are outstanding. There's no better word to describe it.
The best cod has ever been? For me personally, yeah.

The Multiplayer was setting standards for what FPS shooters in Multiplayer could do and where they will go in the future, with a sense of progression that was unrivaled at that time.

    What you have now:
    No Singleplayer
Chasing trends from other games (Overwatch and PUBG)
Selling a Season pass without the option to buy single map packs
Blatantly lying about a bold new direction for the franchise
    Very dull weapon sounds
    No sense of progression
Horrible Map design (3 lanes with very little variety)
Almost no maps (10... whoop di f***n do)

I could go on but in all honesty, I don't want to bore you with my personal frustration from a once great franchise. I pains me greatly that activision got their greasy paws on what was once a paragon of FPS shooters. This is not COD anymore, this is a hollow shell assembled from a soulless developer and publisher trying to make money of people that don't know any better. Do not buy this game, it's not worth 20 €. Don't help these greedy bastards make money and ruin other franchises, when Studios get bought. (The titanfall franchise will be the next one to get completely ruined mark my words)

on good side - Battle Royale works well, taking account that this runs in old cod engine, it works well.
I had little connectivity issues, graphics aren't great but it's best first person BR I have seen.
Zombies - I don't care, I only play MP and SP in cods.
Multiplayer - it's not quite B03 but better B02. operators - I.e. classes, are OK, seem to be balanced for now, but game is too much team oriented, which cod never was.i still think armour is broken and health system is unnatural for cod.
game is just slightly better cod BO2 and not as jumpy as Bo3.
Sadly campaign is gone, but in all honesty - i didn't like bo3 campaign. Bo2 was good and so was bo1.

Most of the 0-3 scores I've read appear to be salty PUBG fans mad that it's better than PUBG and costs $60. I played many hours in PUBG and enjoyed it, but Blackout is a far more polished experience.

Multiplayer feels like a top-tier Treyarch MP experience, and zombies is always a blast with friends. It is not a perfect game, but it is certainly worthy of $60 (I ended up paying $100 for the Deluxe Edition with season pass, and I do NOT regret it.)

The guns are boring and the specialists are way too important to win games compared to BO3, which by the way, this game is basically BO3 without the jet packs. There are barely any recognizable guns other than 4 or 5 and the maps are pretty boring. They clearly focused on the new Blackout game mode as they took most of the same assets from previous Call of Duty games to put in multiplayer and zombies. Speaking of zombies, they over complicated everything way to much. Now you can only have certain perks that you put in you class and you have set gobblegums whenever you want called “elixirs”. If they wanted to compete with Fortnite and PUBG, they should have just released Blackout as a free game instead of packing a half-assed multiplayer and a over complicated yet boring zombies mode only so the could wop the $60 price tag on the game. If I could get a refund, I would. For anyone considering buying this game, don’t or wait for a price drop for around $25-30. Expand

Secondly blackout just feels like it leaches off of battle royale games for a quick buck visuals look same might I add even worse than the previous call of duty games, the game play is fine but just feels like pubg with advanced weapons. Lastly the multiplayer where call of duty usually shines but falls way short, multiplayer has added a few game modes completely inspired by other games and maps are just ripped straight out of older games in the black ops franchise there is very little amount of originality here. The weapons you start out with are some what terrible and it will take you a while to level up and some weapons like the ICR are very overpowered and overused to a huge extent I have experimented to see what was the most used gun by players and the ICR took the throne i found the two to three players in an entire lobby used a different weapon. Campaign was a no show in this call of duty making this call of duty odd in a way but the stories behind the specialists did seem interesting and i wanted to know more about them certainly they could have my a campaign on the specialists there back story's were just amazing, but do not replace campaign in any way. The content does not justify the price tag. Especially since they cut the campaign mode. You can get similar amount of content in some free to play first person shooters. At the moment there are no loot boxes in the, all camos are challenge based and I hope it stays that way, I prefer challenge based progression and feel it gives the game a simpler feel to your personal player objectives over the newer games. The maps are really good, one of my biggest complaints with bo3 was the maps but bo4 has great maps that feel like old school black ops or bo2. Specialists are back, never liked them I don't feel like the things we're shooting should have much personality or individuality if they're meant to be expendable I much prefer the random grunt soldier look from bo2 or other old cods. The specialists are at least not extremely over powered as they can usually counter each other but specialists don't hold a major impact on the outcome of the match rather than your skill as a player. Black out is good, like really good. Feels like a battle royal made by cod shpuld feel. Pubg on consoles is pretty much obsolete now I'd say, black out blows it out of the water. Zombies feels weird this year but since that's treyarchs baby I'm assuming they'll fix it so I'll hold back for now on that. Overall I've hated every cod after bo2 and finally they release one that I really like. I never review games, I'm usually very harsh on cod every year when it comes out but this one has blown my expections so I figured I should review it. Don't listen to the people giving 0s for uninspiration, this cod game appeals mostly to old time players the game does a great job of bringing back that "good ol day bo1 bo2 feel" Expand

Blackout mode is just a cheap version of Battlefield. The developers promised the "best and most refined mechanics" in the trailer, yet the mechanics are terrible. You can't even destroy any buildings. This game mode lacks vehicle variety. There are no jet fighters, or any planes to be found. Zombie mode lacks innovation. The regular Multiplayer is boring and repetitive. The maps are about the same as the last game, with a fresh coat of paint.

The worst part of this game is that it requires a 50 GB patch to play. That makes the physical copy pointless. You can play multiplayer and Zombies with bots and splitscreen offline. But what's the point of having any of that if you need Internet to play? Not everyone has good internet, and it's pathetic how anti-consumer the developers are. The CODs before WWII didn't required internet. I don't recommend this game at all. Internet required games are a disgrace

There is no futuristic BS, all tech we already have at least in development stage. There is no flying, only the grappling hook (and only once each Team) and small slides, which are realistic movement.

The game runs smooth (PC) and is well done. Have no Problems with anyting, perfectly polished.

Secondly... there is NO WAY this game deserves a 0, if its not YOUR type of game, DO NOT REVEIW. Its that simple, im not a fan of final fantasy... couldnt get into it, why would i reveiw it???

I understand bo4 have taken a different approach, but you know what, i havent played a cod campaign since bo1, lets be honest multiplayer zombies have been the hit, not campaign.

Lastly, lets get to the actual game... im not a big fan of the future stuff like the powerups and slams and stuff, so simply i just focus on zombies (which are always good to play)
And.... the new blackout br, what can i say, finally a game that ive been waiting for, its almost a perfect game, what more could you ask for, and the whole point of the mode is to survive till the end, who cares if you dont see anyone until the last 10 players left, i love the mode and for me thats all i be playn.

Now getting onto the price of the game, i got it for $60au what the hell do yous expect, its a aaa game, new release, i bet most you reveiwers that gave crap score because of price and content have almost cirtainly PAID MONEY TO BUY VBUCKS ON FORTNITE for skins that (MAKE YOU LOOK DIFFERENT) im sorry but thats rubbish, so whos the money grabbers???

On conclusion to my ramble, i will say this game gets a 9 atm, and hopefully they tinker and change the br map every now and then, and mix up some things, then the last point will be added ;) all you reveiwers **** about other crap, please think about what your saying, do t drag the score down because you dont like the game...

Good job on blackout devs :)

I just want to point out that after reading through the low score reviews, most of you are angry at the fact that there wasn't a story/campaign. I don't know about you guys but i have not played a call of duty campaign since modern warfare 3. Not that some of the past campaigns were terrible, its just that if i wanted to play a campaign/story game i would play something like God of War or Last of Us not a story from call of duty since "war" stories get repetitive. If you bought a $60 call of duty game in the past just for its campaign then you "screwed" yourself over. Yes black ops has an overly expensive price tag but it has lots to offer through multiplayer, zombies, and blackout. I was a little hesitant at first to buy BO4 because i was not on the battle royale bandwagon (did not like building in fortnite and am old school multiplayer). After i tried multiplayer and blackout i knew I would enjoy the game more then i thought i would. I agree that it was lazy to remake old maps and count it in as the release day maps for multiplayer but the 4 maps they chose to remake had me reminiscing about past black ops games. Zombies has had my attention since the first black ops and i have only ever played black ops zombies since they are the most creative and intense zombies experience. black ops 4 zombies exceeded my expectations and they proved that they put a lot of work into the new story and gameplay. Zombies is much more customizable this time around. Difficulty settings along with other things make it so a beginner can pick up and play and not worry about being "bad" zombies player. Multiplayer is fluid and offers one of the best online shooter experiences at this time. Not once was i kicked out of a lobby or disconnected from a game, which has happened in past call of duty releases. The thing i like about the black ops franchise is that they really listen to the community. A lot of people (including myself) did not like the jetpack boosts going on in BO3 which is why BO4 stuck to boots on the ground. I also am convinced BO4 will be supported for the next 2-3 years just like BO3 was and that is a good feeling to have on a game you spent $60 on. Finally Blackout...I was very nervous about Call of Duty treading into the battle royale scene. I cant say this enough that black ops was for sure the one to pull it off. Not only did they get the battle royale formula correct but they did in a way that was fun easy to learn while keeping true to black ops gameplay. I gave the game a 8/10 for using old maps as fillers for multiplayer and that splitscreen was a disappointment since it condenses the screen and you have to squint to even see an enemy when playing on the same screen with a friend. Overall the call of duty era that included campaigns/stories are over because of the new generation of gamers today. everything is online and fast paced now which is what call of duty is adapting too. Black ops 4 offers a little bit for everyone and to those not buying a game for the lack of a campaign are missing out on a fantastic first person shooter experience. Expand

Very impressed by this game! very impressed that for $60 you can buy THE cheapest game on the market The art style makes it feel like a mix of Overwatch and Warface and feels like a free to play game. You can't build your own class until level 5 as well. Very lazy overall. Not fun.....and just an overall waste of time. A literal giant middle finger to those who were excited to play this. Expand

The game just feels cheap! Reused maps, 3 shot consistent kills on normal, boring art style, and gun game similar to a free-to-play. It's fine for nostalgia to toss in a few, but every class from Black Ops 3 is back, and maps from Black Ops and Black Ops 2 appear in the NORMAL playlists. It's down right lazy.

Not to mention the fact there is no single-player campaign or loot system (CoD WWII). It seems the only reason this game was even released was for the Battle Royale mode. That mode should have been a stand-off so that the rest of the game could come together.

Not worth more than $30, at best.

It’s not that I can’t respect it — it seems to offer decent value in that it’s essentially three different types of shooter in one package, but aside from the new Blackout mode, I’ve had significantly better experiences from many of its competitors. And honestly, Blackout’s main competition is a free-to-play game. It may be better than Fortnite in my opinion, but sixty dollars better? I’m not entirely convinced about that, and without a decent singleplayer campaign attached, it’s a pretty hard sell for anyone who isn’t already a fan.

Despite its generic title Black Ops IV feels like a fresh start for Call of Duty. The multiplayer and the zombie mode is very much the same as always, but with Blackout, Treyarch takes everything that is good with Player Unknown's Battleground and makes it better.

With no campaign to test your trigger finger, the trio of a safe (albeit polished) battle royale, waning multiplayer, and rotting Zombies make BLOPS4 feel like a relic next to a post-Forsaken Destiny 2. [Issue#156, p.94]
