Actually it’s not a wonderful game. However you can’t stop play it again and again. You can enjoy this world, and find some special view to this world. Don’t lose your mind and find the truth.

First of all anyone who is a fan of the tabletop coc or has read the novel should play this. Second I’d like to mention this game has great world building and really does a great job in immersing the player in the theme of madness. Unfortunately this is where I have to end my compliments for this game. The game suffers majorly in the character building. For someone like myself who is a big dnd fan it’s not that big of a deal but in the video game market characters are shallow, forgettable, and in some moments in important scenes you will be like “who is that again?” Second the game looks like something that was supposed to be on the xbox360. It’s not bad but again in the market it’ll be off putting for people. Lastly for many who are looking for a horror game that’ll keep you up at night it’s not this. While I believe the game is tense and has a few great scenes it pans out a lot like a story game. Again I want to reiterate that is not bad for the target audience. But please be warned that this is made for a small crowd of people. If you are looking for a game that makes you question reality. Come truth seeker. If not there are plenty of other games. Expand

As the evening goes on however, he's having a beer to much and the session starts to get a bit weird. However, everyone had fun and you leave in a good mood.

The graphics are average at their best and pretty bad at their lowest. Puzzles are alright and there is no combat system. It's primarily narratively and stealth focused. It's also not a lovecraftian monster cabinet - which is good, because the game is at its best when there isn't a monster around. Much like Soma, which is a good comparison as well.

In the end, if you're looking for an interactive lovecraft story, this game is currently your best bet as far as i'm aware off. If you look for a lot of cool lovecraftian monsters and a bigger focus on combat, this game might not be what you are looking for.

I have to admit that I'm a big fan of Lovecraft's work, and had been looking forward a lot to this game (and Next year's "The Sinking City") as Lovecraft's influence is all over the place, but work actually based on his (and Derleth's) universe is rather rare (and in most cases they aren't any good)

So I was rather happy to open this game and find that the game is filled to the brim with nods to all of Lovecraft's work (both Cthulhu and otherwise), the atmosphere is spot on, even with the more last-gen look of the graphics it still works. When it comes to gameplay it's a bit more old-school then current games are, for me it felt like a game you loved in the mid 2000's and re-opened after 10 years, and you realize it's really as good as you remember it.
Sure the AI and gameplay feel a bit dated, but it really did not bother me at all because everything the game did well (story, atmosphere, mechanics, ...) it did so well that the lesser points (graphics, dodgy FPS sequence) just didn't really bother me.
I played trough the game twice now (PS4) and am thinking about a third play trough with a different build to experience some of the scenes in a different way.
Now, I do have to admit that maybe if this wasn't a Lovecraft game I might have liked it less, but let's face it, it is a valid reason to like something more.

It's true that you will find lack of action, maybe the sounds could be made it better for some situation or the graphic quality it's not as a AAA game but for something of this caliber made it for a small group of people show that story can be delivered in a nice and terrific game and opening the universe to the people who didn't read the books to look at it.
    A-mazing job.

Call of Cthulhu is a prefect example of a game that is more than the sum of its parts. It is obvious that the game did not have a huge budget, people move awkwardly, every second npc shares the same face, and there are too many find this than do that puzzles.

The story on the other hand really sucks you in and for me at least, that is more than worth the cost of admission.

I think this game is quite underrated, though at the same time I can understand some people dislike it because it's highly story-based and you have to like Lovecraft's world to enjoy it (I've read negative critics about this game for being too abstract; well, it's Lovecraft, and it's not an action game). I actually believe it's one of the best adaptations of Lovecraft's short story "Call of Cthulhu" ever. The atmosphere is unique. The graphics have been criticized, but the truth is that the game is very powerful in terms of setting. There's not even time for it to become repetitive because it's rather intense. There could've been some extra variety when playing as other characters, and maybe a little bit of action (it's clearly a modern graphic adventure), but I find it great overall. Expand

It is a narrative game and as such it works excellently. Its main mechanics include exploration, puzzle solving and a slight survival horror and RPG component. If you like Lovecraft's work, you will enjoy this game, the setting is quite good in that respect. However, there are superior games in the survival horror genre. 'Soma' or 'Alien: Isolation' surpass it.

In this game, it's possible to summon Cthulhu so at least because of this it is worth playing. In terms of detective, I believe Frogwares would do better but for some reason they didn't have a chance. It's not a good idea to pass the game in development from one studio to another. But anyway I think what Frogwares did makes the game playable and sometimes interesting. Call of Cthulhu’s strange and eerie visuals somewhat succeed in recreating the atmosphere of Cthulhu mythology. However, instead of contributing to the story, stats such as Sanity feel like they deny the player’s trial-and-error. From shooting to stealth segments, the wide array of different systems needed more polish as well.

At best, this is just a very gimmicky adventure game. Each level having its own thing is a bit refreshing from always having to pixel-hunt for objects, tying simplistic stats into the mix adds some planning, and the way this title forces players to commit to their actions is nice. Sadly, as the journey reaches its half-way point, the story unravels in a very unsatisfying manner. Characters are built up and don't get the proper pay-off, while some disappear entirely.

Call of Cthulhu is not a horror game as such, It’s a title filled up with suspense, amusing moments, even surrealism is in there, which, to be honest, is the most entertaining part. Also there are moments in which you don’t know what are you doing playing this game while you could be doing anything else. Lovecraft’s universe is placed in a game that cannot reach the immensity of Lovecraft’s imagery. And It ends up being a heap of circumstances and mechanics so positive as others that we should left behind in the past.
