but after leaving the tutorial area and going into the actual world I was having a blast. the exploration is fun finding loot to craft into stronger weapons or scraping for more materials to craft. I haven't been this intrigued by loot since borderlands. the way you can customize the weapons give it a unique look that make it feel more personal than most games. I wish more games can adopt this crafting system like dying light 2.
The world is gorgeous in motion and have really foo draw distance it was cool seeing an area then realizing i cant o in there yet till i required the right gear for the element. I felt like so far I have been always working towards something. the music is enjoyable to and enemies have been nicely scattered through the world(although i dont think they respawn in certain area but i believe they are working on a patch).
the combat is where i have had the most fun. it was really janky and bare bones at first but once i unlocked the wung fu combos for the gun and weapon i was using and earned a few abilities that complemented the way i play combat became a lot more smooth and fun. I do warn that this game isnt a hack and slash game or it will feel janky. once you are in a attack animation you have to finish the attack so you should be more methodical with you button inputs.
The story is probably the weakest aspect with it being straight forward and there just to string you along the world. if you are playing just for main quest story the game is not for you. I personally have enjoyed some of the character I have came across exploring and usually found worth while upgrades, loot, mounts or mini bosses through exploration.
the game has some jank and flaws but if im being honest I am having more fun with this game than the last few openworld I have purchased for 60$ (AC Valhalla and Fenix Rising) so I dont mind the price point comparing it off of those AAA games

I was hyped before the launching and then after some reviews I got little bit sad to buy the game. Even though I bought it and for my surprising I love it. It is true the narrative is not good but I liked to explore the world to find new items and craft some awesome weapons.

The game is good and the best price for it would be US 40.

This game combines so many things that make games of this genre unique and excels on all but one aspect. From the combat, to the story, to the art direction and soundtrack this games hits all the notes and draws you in immediately. But it does have one glaring issue, in the form of dialog. This doesn't take away from the game, but is a weird choice considering how the story is presented. There are so many places to explore and things to experience in this game that you'll be playing it for 50+ hours in no time. So in closing I recommend going out and experiencing this game with no prior knowledge or spoilers so you can get the full experience. Expand

This game is definitely meant for a niche of fans that miss the Rareware games of old. The combo strings are fluid and the crafting is fun. My only two complaint is the narrator when I could understand the language. After switching it to Russian I immediately started enjoying it more and just read the subtitles.

I’m on PS4 Pro and I have yet to experience any game breaking bugs that some people are claiming, although there are periodic frame drops. The art style and music are great, the graphics are fine, and I think the choice of a narrator brings a certain charm and an obviously different approach to the game than what people were expecting. The gameplay itself is simple. The “skill trees” aren’t very deep and are pretty straightforward, so there’s only so much variety between classes. Crafting is also easy enough to where you don’t stress over managing your materials, and you gain enough materials throughout exploring that you get to make changes often enough. The combat targeting/aiming could use some improvement, but once you learn to work with it and not against it fights go smoother.

The strong point of the game.
    - beautiful open world. So much love. The Grafik are not like horizon, but the world can compete with this Titel. But u can discover so much everywhere. Sometimes assets repeat themselves, but it's okay for 20 people, crating this.
    - combat can be fun and frustrating at the same time. But man Kung fu racoon. That's a beautiful funnything. Also u can gain tribal weapons with different combos, that are different than the normal guns and weapon.
    - dressing up, and crafting. Often I find myself lost in crating some new cool weapons and must lough about a new find. A head with rabbit ears or other stuff. So much loot and everything can be useful in its right. Maybe selling, destroy or for materials or use it to revamp a new weapon.
-interesting element system. U can also combine for example electro and fire, and u create a lot more damage than only with one element. And with ur gun u can stack a 3rd type.
    - wonderful creative stuff. Not only the animals ore enemies are sometime so cool designed. Also ur vehicals can be changed in look and are useful for boss fights and certain situations
-this game is so different and also the same in questing, as we know from other games. But u search for funny things, that humans needed, and the narrator explaining these things. That can lead to some funny moments.
    - everything is cute and the language of the animals make me lough a lot.
    - the world isn't empty, that's a lie. Their are parts of the world empty, but that's only realistic because in some parts u can't breathe or u are high up in mountains. The only thing that I can say is-a bit more epidemic life would make sense sometimes

    Negative things

    - the voice acting is great but also boring sometimes. Also some lines are repeated. Also in mainquests and side quests.
    - the narrator is a strange thing. Because he is the only voice u can understand in this world.
    - fetch quest are in their. Repeat this, and do this. Bring me wood to re build a city and so on.
That isn't for everyone. But it's definetly not so much as like in AC games.
    - no lock on camera. Makes fighting harder, but u can get used to it
    - the healing menue isn't intuitive. And the time do not stop, only goes in slow motion. That is tricky in the beginning.
    - ur bad and good behavior do things in the world. But not as much as u think.
Other villages get destroyed or some people talk differently to u. 101 could do a bit more with it.
    - some decision must be made without any warnings. And can't be changed. That's okay, but not mine.
    - playing the game nearly 30 h now, and I got the feeling u have to play it a 2nd time. NG+ times are not mine either. I am from generation. U can get everything in the first run

The world is beautiful but it seems that most of the budget was put into the engine and lead to assets being overly re-used, variety massively lacking, combat being clunky and quests left boring and uninspired.

The game itself looks amazing and I have to credit the devs for a lot of creative potential which is absolutely shining in this game but this is where the positive vibes already end. The game runs terrible on Playstation consoles. It is a 1080p60fps on PS5 and still has great trouble with stutters, texture pop-ins and occasional hang-ups. Whenever you travel too fast, kill an enemy or there is just too much happening the game freezes for a mere second or has very bad hiccups. Basically this disqualifies a game for me as being good and recommendable.

Beyond that the introductionary part in this game is horrible. Players get flooded by command prompts within minutes and after that cutscenes happen every few minutes rendering game immersion and "getting used to it" to insignificance. Looking deeper the game falls apart even more because the target aim is all over the place resulting in misses or getting hit. The game is so buggy, that sometimes you do specials but you cant hit because the game engine misses the collision progress. The combat itself tries to be deep by having categories and classes but honestly... it is most of the time just button mashing.

The UI and UX is also not the best. It seems that is has been tuned to seem modern but lacks practical placement. The menu is not intuitive by any means and you will find yourself pressing the wrong buttons over and over.

Gamewise I do like my random fetch quests and this is fine after all but the quests are really that bad and the loot is insignificant. I found a handful of weapons on my playthrough the rest must be crafted. Most of the loot is trash and not worth grabbing at all. I think this is especially again for casual players not the best design.

Now the game comes down to boss fights and where it matters you often dont control your character as usual but you are bound to use a device, mount or something like that. Ontop they tried to layer boss mechanics to make it appealing but failed completely in doing so leading to boss fights that are terrible finnicky and can be frustrating especially for casual players on console controllers.

Closing with one more very existential point. The story feels very bad, the constant narration gets overloading and the gibberish as well as the words used to describe the "fantasy world" makes it even worse and uninteresting. Half way through the game I just skipped through the dialogues.

I think there was a lot passion in developing the game but it feels bad to invest full price into a game that is just not worth it at all. I had some fun moments, but mostly I just wanted to get over with it. I do not recommend this game at the moment and even with performance and bug fixes which are needed bothways, the game still lacks. If you are still interested in this game I HIGHLY recommend to wait for at least 50% of sale and lower initial expectations.

The problem is that this kind of game needs to be immersive, not have an "outside looking in" perspective. Therefore the narrator constantly pulls you out of the immersion.

It seems like most reviewers lost their mind getting annoyed about the narrator and just pushed to finish this game asap to review it. A lot of the reviews are disappointing, often saying things that are completely untrue; the game is linear, the world is flat, the world is unpopulated, the enemies are all the same and not varied. All of this is provably false. Also rampant reports of the game being too easy while other reviewer say the unpolished combat is too hard. This game is at its best when you just explore and uncover fun stuff - when you are barreling toward the finish line to give this game a bad review, you haven't actually experienced the true game at all.

Lets be real - Biomutant is an unapologetically weird experiment of a game. While many feel that they got too far off the beaten path, I say its refreshing to experience something new, especially in this open work genre that is starting to get beaten to death at this point. Its not a perfect game, more like a jack of all trades. If you are looking for a game that's a master of something, this isn't it. Its a game about sitting back and enjoying the wild and cooky ride. If that is your mindset going in, you are going to have a lot of fun.

I would say the closest comparison that you can make for this game is Fallout. Every Bethesda game ever has been ripe with bugs and problems around every corner. While biomutant sure has a lot of weirdness, it has had a much cleaner launch. Yet before 76, bethesda games were showered with praise where Biomutant is getting dragged through the mud. While not perfect, this game is far from an embarrassingly buggy release that is all to common in this day an age.

Some of the biggest things holding Biomutant back are simply fine tuning. When new players get their hands on a game they like to band and break it in ways devs could never have imagined. This game is being broken in many ways that can be fixed with simple updates. Bring down some overpowered things, bring up some weak things. Mix in more perks. Fine tune some combat elements. Clean up some UIs. Most of the dirt can be cleaned off this game with a few basic content patches, and Experiment 101 has already announced they are working on it.

Regardless, this game is just pure fun and I'm having a blast with it.

The visuals are often times awe-inspiring, the narration and character design is top-tier, and most importantly, and one thing many of these "professional" (I use that term loosely) reviewers are not mentioning, is just how addictive and fun the game is to play. I fail to understand how a game like Final Fantasy Remake, which is barely an RPG and more of a guided tour in futility and frustration with absolutely no freedom at all (loved the original, HATED the remake) can garner such praise when a new and lovingly crafted IP such as Biomutant is getting crapped on. Ok so the world doesn't have a super lot going on at the moment...has anyone really played Shadow of the Colossus? Because they're ain't a whole lot going on in that games world either. And that game was also often times an exercise in frustration when it came to combat/controls/climbing. The sad reception of a game such as this, is living proof of why companies shell out mindless and soulless clones of COD and Madden every year. It’s super fun. don’t listen to all the hate and see for yourself; the graphics are not bad at all, the fps rarely drops on ps5 (it’s gonna get fixed with the ps5 patch anyway), the narrator is not that bad actually and the gameplay is entertaining. it’s super refreshing and relaxing. I strongly recommend it!

It's a nice unique game that comes around only once in a long while. The combat does need improvements especially the melee, but overall, I like it.

Don’t go in expecting a AAA title. Go in with an open mind and some patience and you’ll see the love behind the game. Played through once and already started my second play through. Plenty of options and character choices to keep things interesting for awhile. Looking forward to Biomutant 2!!!

Id like to start this review off by saying that I am a very dedicated Person when it comes to my health and fitness and I have been choosing to prioritize that over videogames for a decade now. I always make sure to workout before playing videogames.

Now, with that being said, I have had Biomutant for 5 Days now, and I have had the most difficult week in terms of my priorities in an entire decade.

I refuse to compare this title to traditional AAA titles that we play Today because it wasn't the teams intention. It also wasn't the average size team of developers either. Even with that being said, after my first 6 hours with Biomutant I realized that I prefered its style as a whole, over my entire collection of beautiful AAA titles.

Biomutant didn't impress me during its intro. It actually had me feeling conflicted, and worried about whether I would care enough to stick around just 2 hours in. It was about 6 hours in, when I had actually fuly grasped the combat, looting, crafting/scrapping system. Once I fully understood how it worked and how to benefit from loot and what do with bad loot, thats when the game as a whole came together and I realized that it was going to be an absolute blast of a journey.

I am thoroughlly enjoying the narrator in this story vs the narration in a game like Immortals Fenyx Rising. Not once, has the Biomutant narration thrown me off or made me want to avoid it. Its the perfect amount of quirkiness and seriousness. The narrator talks about the beautiful scenery as you enter a new tropical location and gives you a brief history lesson. I truly appreciate that. The way that the narration unfolds the story, past and present is very personal to a gamer like myself.

The combat system reminds me of a clunkier version of Insomniacs Spiderman. Its far from perfect but also far from imperfect. Its smooth and clunky at the same time and it works really well for the setting and pace of the game right now. The developers have stated they'll be working on that which is amazing but as it stands right now, I would be able to finish the game happily. Remembering the different melee combos is a task for me, one that Im actually happy to take on because its very rewarding seeing the name of the combo blow up on screen in comic book style letters to verify that it was done correctly. Its an instant shot of dopamine.

Crafting/Scrapping has become the most rewarding portion of the game for me now that I have a great understanding on how it actually works. I wasn't sure what the information was telling me in the first few hours of play but after reading some forums and comments I gathered my own understanding and started to run with it. I ended up sitting on a large collection of loot and started piling up resources and creating incredibly unique and funny weapons for my character to use. I now find myself thinking while Im at work "Can't wait to loot things for 2 hours when I get home". Its something that means alot to me as a gamer right now. Genuine fun.

Now as far as the map/locations go, Im truly confused with all the buzz on the internet about Biomutant being a lonely, dead World. Compared to what? I can barely travel on foot for more than fifteen seconds before seeing something to loot, fight or discover. And the "bare land" I have found is perfect for summoning your mount and taking some awesome photos. Right now I find myself wishing that you had the ability to climb. I really think they could have capitilized on hiding loot up top on narrow plankboards on abandoned buildings or something. But regardless, searching for loot is somehow refreshing in Biomutant comapred to many loot games and I dont know exactly why but I love it. I cannot stop moving the camera around to absorb the scenery. Its art style and locations are incredible. I love that it doesnt look nearly as good as games like Days Gone or Horizon Zero Dawn or The Last of Us 2 but it works just as well, in its own way and provides the same foundation of appreciation.

The story is something that I feel like I dont even have enough hands on experience with to be able to talk about it with confidence. I havent actually completed a single main mission aside from what the game makes you complete before throwing you into the open world. With side quest experience, I can confidently say that the story should open up and be as exciting as Im hoping.

All in all, at the end of the Day Biomutant impresses me, and leaves me hopeful for an amazing journey. Can't wait to put 50 more hours into this. Spectacular game.

Mission objectives usually require you to ride from point A to B, most of the goals are so far away that you need a long time to get there. Weapon crafting is great and I hope more games implement similar mechanics. The story is a disaster. Most of the main story-line comprises of fetch quests and then some boss fights, which are not memorable nor enjoyable. Some people probably enjoyed the narrator however, I can’t stand him, because every character seems the same and there is no variation, which is a shame as most of them look pretty cool. I understand that the game was made by a small number of people however it is sold for a AAA price and so it should be reviewed as such. It’s worth 20 bucks at most. Simply put, the game is not well executed, lacks cohesion, the story is very disappointing, some aspects are downright boring and uninspiring. One of the most disappointing game I have ever played, and one of the worst games of this year so far. I can’t believe how there are so many 10/10s. Save your money for something better Expand

Its graphical fidelity on the PS4 seems a generation behind; its "cutscenes" are extremely rough around the edges, its story is incredibly by-the-numbers, and its pretentious British narrator becomes grating after only a few hours. But despite all this, BioMutant is fun as hell. And while it may not be everyone's cup of tea, those that enjoy it will enjoy it greatly.

Where BioMutant really shines is in its mechanics. The crafting system is relatively deep, and its loot mechanics are also solid. Though the dedication to the post-apocalyptic aesthetic makes some weapon designs sometimes seem unwieldy and less than appealing, the fact that the game will allow you to upgrade weapons you do like the look/bonuses of means that you can essentially make some weapons you like using worthy of endgame play. Exploration, too, is enjoyable - while there is an admitted lack of originality or diversity in terms of what activities there are to do at each point of interest, the vastness of the map means that if you enjoy this sort of open-world approach, you will not be disappointed. In terms of comparisons, BioMutant seems to bear similarities to Assassin's Creed: Odyssey in terms of its exploration (though I would say it is a slight improvement over Odyssey in terms of quality), and depending on what you look for in a video game, that may either be appealing or off-putting.

A more debatable, middling and subjective aspect of BioMutant's features is its combat - much like its treatment of exploration, its combat seems like it could be appreciated by some, loved by others, and hated by others still. Its hack-and-slash style of play seems to resemble a sloppier Kingdoms of Amalur with guns, and possesses a similar lack of challenge. However, unlike Amalur, the feedback provided within combat feels lacking from both an auditory and physical perspective - there is no real "weight" behind the impact of your blows. Those looking for a Dark Souls-esque experience will be frustrated beyond belief at not just the lack of impact behind their attacks, but also the general ease of combat. This game does not treat combat as anything complex, and its simplicity will likely alienate many while also drawing some others in.

Sadly, BioMutant's successes cannot prevent its players from noticing just how much this game looks like it was released as an alpha build. It is hard to know where to even begin in terms of describing these issues, because there are so many. The astonishingly unpolished cutscenes, the graphical glitches, the jumpy transitions, and the visual presentation in general are shockingly below expectations. For all the aesthetic beauty of the game's open world, there is something remarkable about how sloppy some parts of this game look. Combining this with the occasional grammatical/spelling mishaps, occasional gameplay glitches (such as not being to activate the glider before re-loading the game) and "janky," erratic combat issues (such as bullets from guns missing their target for what seems like no apparent reason), and you start to get the idea that this game could have used a lot more time in the oven.

As far as a story goes, BioMutant seems to treat any narrative beats as secondary to gameplay. For those who don't pay much attention to the story (i.e. skipping cutscenes and narration), this will be a moot point - however, anyone looking for a rich, deep story can give this game a pass. Few characters really stand out in any way, and nothing about their "dialogue" (read: The narrator putting words in their mouths) is worthwhile or interesting. You go out into the world, you be the hero (or the villain), and get one of two endings based on whether you are good or bad. Again, this is another element of the game that will seem archaic and uninteresting to some, but appealing in its simplicity to others. Whether you can take it or leave it, it would be silly to give this game credit for its storytelling.

Like some other non-AAA studio efforts, such as Greedfall and Outward, BioMutant is ripe for classification as a potential cult classic. Its egregious lack of polish is obvious, but for those who can see past this, there is a wonderfully entertaining open-world game that will grab your attention for hours and hours. Rather than mass appeal, this game will likely attract fans of action RPGs who are willing to stomach a metric ton of jankiness for the sake of tried, tested and true action RPG and open-world mechanics. I have personally enjoyed the game greatly thus far, but its appeal is narrow - consider what elements of video games you enjoy before buying this one, and be aware that if BioMutant does seem appealing to you, it likely will be. For those who will enjoy it, its price is reasonable - for those who prefer polish, interesting narratives and more nuanced, weighty combat, I recommend ignoring this one.

Which is hyper focused on shooters, gore and over the top cinematic. This game has been lovingly crafted for years by a small group of people. Does it have its issues, of course. But it most certainly does not ruin the experience. Once through the tutorial the world opens up and the vision comes to life. This is a love letter to simpler times when games were made to be fun, quirky and make us feel like a child again. The combat, crafting, exploration is all top notch. And open world games being some of the hardest games to make this is truly an achievement and testament of this small studios talent and creativity. I realise that 10 hours isn't enough to justify a full-on review, so my angle will be this:

I can't find the motivation to go back to the game as it's suck all of that out of me.

    1. The narrator and the constant interruptions that stop you actually playing the game are the worst I've experienced. The game is action focused in the way the character is controlled and set-up, but the action is stopped every minute or so because of the narrator or some other thing freezing your progress. It makes it ponderous and boring.

    2. The quests and puzzles are boring, repetitive, childish and lazy in design.

    3. The loot is mostly useless and there's rarely anything to get excited about.

    4. The combat is a weird hybrid that doesn't nothing well. You don't fully lock on but you do hit them bad guys if you are generally pointing in their direction. It's just not satisfying.

    5. From the screen shots and trailers, I expected the graphics and animations to be much better - they are very poor compared to what we've seen pre-release.

    6. Game play aside, this game might have been put together by 20 people in a kind of Indy way, but they should have measured that against the price of the game i.e. not an AAA game but charging an AAA price. The game is a £29.95 game at most and I feel like I have wasted all of my money because I was not entertained at all and I just want to uninstall is and get my valuable hard drive space back.

Unless you have some die-hard affinity towards the designers and what they are trying to do, then save your money.

Combat could use some polish by sometimes it feels unresponsive and parrying and dodging does not always seem to work correctly. But smacking a big guy head first to ground is so statisfying when executed. Story and Quests are generic but everyone who played any AC game should be used to it. The most fun I had so far is the crafting. The combination of all the funny parts Items and what not is just a blast and once you get a hang of the menu it’s all not that big of deal. So in the end it’s definitely no GOTY masterpiece like a ghost of Tsushima or last of us but I never saw it that way. It’s the first project of a development team with 20 people in it and most people seem to ignore that but please ask yourself when you did something for the first time , was it perfect ? I bet not but that’s no reason to put these guys to shame for trying to bring fun into your lives. Especially in times like this. So enjoy the game if you can and if not just don’t play it or at least give constructive feedback. Cheers

I really want to persuade myself that this is a good game but I just can't.

    1. The movement design of the game is not convincing: All the characters in the game move in a way that I can't understand. I can't feel power in those moves of the little beast yet it bounce forward like 5 meters away, or some times it just sprint forward for 50 cm. I feel like floating on a layer of air in stead of standing, walking, running and fighting on a solid ground. The moving distance produced by the same action is not the same so I just confuse about what I'm should do during a fight, since I just can't presume the outcome of the move after making it.

All the attacks hit like waving feather at a piece of wood and hitting feedback from the enemies is confusing plus with the problem that sometimes they fight back, some times they don't, I just can't tell if I've hit them or not.

    2. The animations that cut in all of a sudden are disrupting: After all most every 5 minutes of gameplay in the first hour, there is a animation which will stop me from operating my character and that really piss me off. It was like I finally seems to sink in the game but the narrator just pull me out of it for another wait. Whats more, the animation don't quiet match the last movement I made before it cuts in so my character might flash away form the place where it last stopped and I can feel the cut like, for example some frame is missing due to the censorship.

    3. All the conversation with the NPC is the same of the animation I've mentioned above, so...

    4. The so called mutant is just another skin for "build" in common RPG. You are just picking skills like before so don't be too excited about it.

In a word, this game is like half made beta and even the main spot light: act and kongfu is not appealing at all during my game play, not to mention the rest of the parts.

Perhaps in the future the game with be patched to a nice one but now It just doesn't worth the price. Skip it and skip the regret.

    Trust me plz.

I've sunk hundreds if not thousands of hours over the years into games like BOTW, Borderlands, Fallout, and Outerworlds, Red Dead Redemption, ect. so I think I have a solid understanding of all the aspects that make them enjoyable and not so enjoyable. So far I have about 40 hours of play time in Biomutant and I gotta say my honest opinion is that although it lacks depth and scale compared to other AAA rpg's I have played I still think its a wonderfully crafted game that is both beautiful and charming. Its relaxing to play and I love its quirky characters and story telling. Not to mention the character armor and weapon crafting is super satisfying. It seems a main complaint from players and critics is that after awhile the game feels repetitive but I know if you play any rpg long enough they all get repetitive. In every rpg i've ever played at some point or another I inevitably find myself racing through what seems like a never ending chain of fetch quest in order to finally feel the sense of achievement I get from advancing the main story without skipping anything along the way. I think the real issue with Biomutant is that some of the side missions and puzzles are too similar or simply repeated throughout the entirety of the game which I will agree makes the game feel basic and/or dated. Some people are also crying about the narrator being overbearing and claiming the names the game uses to describe things is too silly or childish. I didn't have a problem with either of these issues, for starters there is an option in the game menu to lessen the frequency that you hear the narrators voice while you play and as far as the silly naming conventions, they are no different then similar made up words used in movies like Willy Wonka, Harry Potter, or the B.F.G to list a few examples, all of which are very popular very successful movies. Other than that I really don't have anything critical to point out about the game. I really enjoy the oriental overtones in the games music score, artistic style, and combat mechanics which I feel all work together to bolster the colorful and beautifully designed world environments. Bottom line I really like Biomutant and I hope that it is successful enough where the small dev team that made it can continue to build upon the great foundation they have created and get to work crafting a bigger and better sequel in the future. 10 out of 10 to offset negative reviews I think are completely unjustified. Real score 8 out of 10. Expand

It's my honest opinion that the combat in BioMutant feels a LOT better than Breath of the Wild's, and the world feels less empty to boot. So I can only imagine that going by these newly raised standards, Breath of the Wild would get a 4/10.

I'm not just being facetious here, either. A lot of these reivews are simply unfair. Some bring up elements like the baby-talk, without having an ounce of the self-awareness required to realise that this is a game that's meant to appeal to kids. If 50~ year olds are having problems with a game like this, perhaps they shouldn't be playing it in the first place?

Anyway, the positives have been covered elsewhere. I just find the negativity suspicious. It really does smack of human chauvinism.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sad to see all the people giving it 10s to counteract the bad reviews, or because the game has “heart”.

Unfortunately if a game has a AAA price tagged, it gets reviewed as a AAA game. There are plenty of masterpiece indie games with less than $20 pricetags. Though the team had vision, they overreached their goal and ultimately fell extremely short on the execution. If this was being sold for $30-40 dollars, the reviews would be much different to reflect that.

As $60 dollar game this would be a 6 tops Unfortunately the rating is 6.9 due to fake 10s so I will be giving it a 1.

The world is empty and shallow.
    The narrator always repeating himself.
No matter what build , guns will always outshine everything.
Special Powers are not even worth it.

I understand the dev team is small but this game didn't quite make it and not worth the price ( I would pay 10 bucks for a thing like this ).

Yes it's a game with only 20 developers, but since it's full priced - i've taken that out of the equation. The game is £25 $30-35 at most. The price they're selling it - is outrageous.

I'm writing this, so you don't have to play it. You don't have to slog your way through the worst game of the year so far. Got to level 50, would have got the platinum but one of the trophies is bugged, and the less said about the glittermoths the better. Really. Once they're done, I'll uninstall and never have to think about this game again. Like mass effect andromeda. It'll just be a bad memory.

Karma - It's useless. The funny thing is you'll come across shrines in graveyards. some are dark. some are light. You have no idea what one it is until you activate it. But if you're worried and wanna be light just pick up every animal you see "pet and keep" and your light will be in the majority easily. Yes the system is useless. And feels worthless.

Quests - You know those RPGs where you have a favourite quest, one that just resonated with you - whether it's Mass Effect, Skyrim, Final Fantasy, Tales of, etc. This game has none of those. No quest that makes it feel worthwhile. No quest with a storyline that you enjoy.

Combat - it can be fun, but that wares off by level 25. So in the end you make sure you have a fire sword for armoured and shield enemies. And your rifle takes care of anything else. There's a variety of weapons don't get me wrong, especially the tribe ones but they're not all that good. The only one that made me smile was a burning rolling pin.

Mounts - The only useful one is the googlide, but even then if you see a body of water and think wow the googlide would be perfec... it doesn't summon everywhere. Only in certain areas like the rest of the transports. They're mostly used for bosses or the blimp to reach an area you can't get to otherwise. (in this game if you can't pick up, use or get to an area there's usually a convoluted quest on the other side of the world in 6 parts that helps you)

Levelling up/Gear - There's loads of loot, but most of it will be useless. In fact 90% ends up being useless. But there's plenty of it. So there's that.

Puzzles - even with a decent intelligence some of them can't be solved in the moves given. it's randomly set up each time. So you'll get it, they're not difficult, some are just impossible given the amount of moves they give you. The only interesting ones are the X, Y and Z but they're in short supply.

Graphics - the game is pretty and it's a fairly large world. Dark in areas especially nuclear fallout underground.

Also if you're going to play it, as I did on the PS5. Keep a manual save updated regularly. The game only crashed twice but each time it corrupted the two autosaves that the game keeps.

It's a 6, it would have been a 7 but the terrible fast travel system, the poorly written quests. The terrible male orientated characters (you'll come across maybe 3 female characters out of 16 and none of the tribe leaders are female). You can change the frequency of the narrator. Do that. Straight away.

Just be prepared for repetition which would make any MMORPG blush.

As usual the review bombing doesn't convey correctly what this game offers.
I'm sorry to need to offset it with a 10/10 here, in reality my vote is basically an 8.
Let's break down the reasons. TECH GRAPHICS | 9: game is gorgeous, lush and vibrant environment, dense. Think of Horizon Zero Dawn. Not a 10 because there is a tiny bit of repetition especially in insides / bunkers SOUND

    Let's break down the reasons.

    TECH
GRAPHICS | 9: game is gorgeous, lush and vibrant environment, dense. Think of Horizon Zero Dawn. Not a 10 because there is a tiny bit of repetition especially in insides / bunkers
SOUND | 8: does it's job, no outstanding OST or anything but just the right support to the game play

    GAMEPLAY
COMBAT | 7: this is a mixed one for me. I love combat but I feel it could be polished a little bit more. What is lacking the most is "weight" especially in the melee, a more responsive and clean parry and a balancing (ranged can get overpowered fast, needs to be toned down a lot). Would be interested to have more often enemies resistant to to melee, ranged or powers
EXPLORATION | 10: this is one of my favourite sides. I always feel encouraged to look each nook and cranny to find scrap and use it for crafting. Tons of secrets, funny and quirky things to discover. Many traversal options with vehicles, mounts and "parkour" via double jumps and weapons combos
CRAFTING | 10: another easy top vote, hands down the best crafting system I ever seen in a RPG. NOT BOUND TO A STUPID SKILL. Tons of configurations. Results can be broke back down to their components. Very fun to create crazy weapons mixing and matching scrap. I SO LOVE IT.
CHARACTER PROGRESSION | 8: there are ton of option, the fact that you are virtually never locked out of options is both a strength and a weakness. I cannot push the score higher here (and maybe is even generous) because sometimes the choices feel impactless, and maybe a bit more restrictions would be beneficial. Also not a fan of flat skill trees, I think it adds more depth if the skills are lined in paths to take and go deeper

    STORY
OVERALL | 6: here we are touching the very weak points. Story is there, adds the right context to the overall world but it never got me hooked. I didn't find it compelling or special.
DELIVERY | 5: here the weakest point for me. The character don't have interesting dialogues, often they repeat themselves. The narrator, while a reasonable choice for a "fable" as the devs call it, removes TOO MUCH SOUL from any character... they should have been voiced independently to make them memorable. Also the continuous presence of this voice makes the overall experience very flat an monotonous. I'm aware this will come down to personal choice, but is kinda objective that a different direction would have made the story and the character much more interesting and likeable. I'm aware you can disable it but that's not the point: he's the main pillar of the narration, the solution isn't muting it. I have too say it it wasn't always negative, he made me chuckle lot of times but he generally overstays his welcome after a while.

Its aesthetics are a bit all over the place but it has a clear theme of messed up evolution on top of the ruins and junk of the now extinct mankind.

The introduction phase is quite long because it crams a lot of tutorials in narrative style. The dialogues can slow down the pace a lot, so it takes a while to get into the game. But the core of it kicks in and the paths open up once you are free to choose your quests, find your mount, build your character, wander anywhere you want given you can survive the elements.

Skills and weapon types have different learning curves so they feel unequal at first until you find your favorite play style. After a while using the first thing that worked on most mobs it gets boring, but the character development is open enough so you can change directions and there is no need "respec" to keep your build viable. Sometimes the combat gets messy when there are too many mobs in the same fight, especially when there are two opposing groups involved in a fight.

I'm not giving 8/10 to counter the review bombers. It's a good game. Biomutant isn't perfect but it's not a botched release, it runs very well a. It does what many open-world action RPG's have done up until now. It combines many recipes of what made the genre popular but it looks like people suddenly decided to raise the bar sky high for story, originality, content and variety in a genre that rarely stands out in those aspects. I bet the bar will be low again on time before the next Ubisoft releases of sequels of upon sequels if you know what I mean.

I'm not saying it doesn't have its flaws, as in people not enjoying the narrator (not my case), the sound being a bit off sometimes, some bugs here and there, the transition between gameplay and cutscenes being a little harsh and a few more things. For on open-world action RPG developed by a handful of people, Biomutant makes a very striking impression. It’s hard for me to imagine someone not falling in love with the beautiful, unique world conjured up by Experiment 101. Sure, the game as a whole is not perfect, but if a sequel is ever created, I’ll be the first in line to play it. [07/2021, p.38]

From creating your own character to a wide array of vehicles and a unique world, there’s a lot to love in Biomutant – which makes its shallowness all the more disappointing. The inconsistent battle system and the amount of bugs doesn’t make things any better. While the game certainly knows how to hook you, the fun doesn’t last very long.

Biomutant tries to do a lot of interesting things. It offers a potentially captivating world and unique crafting mechanics. Even the combat's fine, on the surface. The game, however, doesn't exactly play well, with clumsy controls, repetitive missions and an overemphasis on drawn-out dialogue that bores instead of inspires. This really could (and should) have been a lot better than it is.
