Fur-miliar ideas are rarely evolved but the world is an inventive place. Fur what it’s worth, it’s not enough to overcome a furssy script and confused tone. [Issue#2, p.74]

It’s rare that I’ll forgive lackluster story or mediocre combat, but the unbelievably positive energy in its other aspects creates such a winning atmosphere that I find it hard to hold its failures against it. Yes, Biomutant‘s story could be a lot better, but it’s also an adventure where an otter in a wetsuit builds the player a jetski so they can cruise to an archipelago and battle mutants around the rusty remains of ancient shipwrecks. I wish the fighting was more thoughtfully designed, but then again, a lemur taught me how to use a submarine so I could fight a giant turtle in an underwater city. What Biomutant lacks in polish, it makes up for in audacity, and I appreciate that.

Biomutant is flawed from almost every angle we look at it but still manages to be fun. Nothing is truly original or innovative, but it is melded together in a fashion that makes the game work. It is an RPG in a huge open world, with tons of action, even more freedom, and its very own personality. For a first game, it is not bad. Some things can be improved, but you can lose yourself in the game world and you will have fun with it. Despite the flat jokes and repetitive secondary quests, Biomutant is a game worth a try.

If the DNA of Biomutant sparks a re-evolution of some of the genre’s dull spots, perhaps we can forgive the dull spots present here.

Biomutant is a good game with a strong promise and an identity of its own, which you won't find in any other title. For this reason alone, the adventure is worth trying despite its visual and technical deficiencies. We can only advise you to take your time, to explore the world and not to follow the traditional codes of the genre. Otherwise, you might miss the game experience that the developers of Experiment 101 wanted.

While this review may well make it sound like Biomutant is full of bugs, the one thing I might not have made clear is just how easy it is to lose hours to this game. With so much to do, time can fly by without you noticing. Yes, the graphics may not be the best with stuttering and pop-in in places, and there were occasional game crashes, but nothing is game breaking and it’s a lot of fun. The humor will especially appeal to children, while the game is complex enough for adults to enjoy too.

Maybe it's worth to wait for any potential patches, fixes, and changes to the overall balance and technical side, that will make Biomutant more engaging and fun, but as of right now it's hard to give a lesser score to such a charming game.

Biomutant's concept of a colourful post-apocalyptic kung-fu adventure is an intriguing one, and when all the pieces come together, it can be a riveting ride. The world is rich and exciting to explore, with plenty of hidden secrets to find and an important, convincing environmental message tied into it and a lot of freedom in how you build your character. But poor pacing holds back the narrative potential, and for all its open-endedness, a lack of finesse in the combat system leaves Biomutant feeling messy and awkward instead of hitting those stylish action high notes it's shooting for.
  9. Biomutant has not fully utilized its high potential. It deserves a chance even if it doesn't appeal to everyone.

Biomutant seeks to offer a simple and fun game, with a fast and spectacular gameplay in an open world full of secrets. Unfortunately, it is loaded with technical errors and artistic decisions that affect the gaming experience, leaving it behind other titles of its genre.

Biomutant’s faults are especially frustrating because it's so wonderfully weird. The stronger and faster you get, the more you want to explore and conquer. Each new gizmo you discover presents an opportunity to change up your playstyle, and its map holds some genuinely startling surprises. But despite a rich customization system, it’s hard to connect to everything the way it's presented. It’s a clever and colorful world, it’s just not very cohesive.

Biomutant consistently shows glimmers of promise but it takes patience and a pair of rose-colored glasses to see them. I genuinely loathed my first several hours with the game, but once I made cooler weapons that made combat more tolerable or admired another postcard-worthy sight, I felt more disappointed than anything. Biomutant has all the ingredients of a unique, entertaining adventure. It just spends too much time doing everything possible to try and impress its audience instead of polishing its handful of strengths.

Pretty environments can't save what is ultimately a bland game. Biomutant lacks character and excitement, which is a shame given the early promise it showed.

From creating your own character to a wide array of vehicles and a unique world, there’s a lot to love in Biomutant – which makes its shallowness all the more disappointing. The inconsistent battle system and the amount of bugs doesn’t make things any better. While the game certainly knows how to hook you, the fun doesn’t last very long.

While everyone was expecting a revolution in the action-RPG genre, Biomutant proves to be just a derivative open-world experience with a pretty decent combat/crafting system and a weak mission design.

Landing combos, and zipping around the sandbox is amusing enough, and the game’s progression systems offer the usual RPG hook. But overall it’s a case of light entertainment and not truly innovative design.

I wish I could be coming away from Biomutant recommending it to other players. In fact, before starting it I was damn near certain that I’d enjoy it, but it sadly didn’t live up to my expectations. It’s charming and has a great suite of RPG mechanics and customisation, but it’s also surprisingly generic in most of its mission design and has combat that is unique but unsatisfying. I had some fun with it, and I’m sure others will too, but I walked away from it mostly feeling nothing, which is the biggest shame of all.

Biomutant is a game that's still evolving. Plenty of bugs need to be ironed out, its combat system could use another coat of paint, and it desperately needs new puzzles – they rarely move beyond a simple "match-two-colors" format. Much of the game works exactly as intended, including a robust crafting system, a fantastic suite of side quests, and an open world that's begging to be explored. Dozens of great ideas are lurking just below the jank, and so is an enjoyable game if you're able to look past them.

Biomutant is a charming open-world RPG that is blatantly aimed at children, with a low difficulty level and overly cutesy tone that will likely put off older gamers. Combat is fun with a large range of craftable weapons and mutant powers at your disposal, but boring puzzles and a barebones story means there isn’t much else here to keep you captivated.

Biomutant isn't a terrible game -- the fighting and crafting systems are both top-notch and give players a ton of choice. But while the world of Biomutant is hauntingly beautiful, the game lacks any sort of narrative substance or character. If you're looking for a strong story or even a weak story, Biomutant will leave you unsatisfied. However, if you enjoy exploration for the sake of exploration, then you'll probably lose yourself in Biomutant.

Biomutant has a lot of the building blocks of a top-drawer action RPG but its cookie-cutter approach to objectives and puzzles starts feeling very repetitive very early on.

A lot of bugs and crashes will spoil the experience. The game design and the storytelling with one camera shot never switching angle feels outdated and don't do any justice to the brilliant artistic vision and message hidden behind Biomutant.

Simply put, Biomutant is an enjoyable but medicore RPG that tries to bite off more than it can chew. It has good ideas and a beautiful open world, but it fails at execution. Experiment 101 showed they have great talent, and I think their next project can be great. Sadly, Biomutant falls short.

Biomutant fails to present an ambitious open world. After a couple of hours it becomes a monotonous game.

Biomutant bites off more radioactive waste than it can chew. It's an action game with a multitude of ambitions, but none of them are fully realized. The very dated presentation and poor performance only further hamper its already weakened potential.

Biomutant is like the potato salad at a cookout. Some folks might like it and may even come back for seconds but nearly everyone else will wonder why the heck anyone would bother, especially because there's a huge stack of juicy steaks and burgers right there.

Biomutant tries to do a lot of interesting things. It offers a potentially captivating world and unique crafting mechanics. Even the combat's fine, on the surface. The game, however, doesn't exactly play well, with clumsy controls, repetitive missions and an overemphasis on drawn-out dialogue that bores instead of inspires. This really could (and should) have been a lot better than it is.

BioMutant is teeming with potential, but a lot of that potential has been squandered. It's not a bad game, but it isn't going to be the standout project THQ Nordic fans were hoping for. Still, even with all of its issues, players may find themself booting up New Game Plus mode once their journey has been finished, despite breathing a sigh of relief when they finally see the credits roll.

Even after getting used to everything that Biomutant throws at you, the array of options at your disposal spreads the game rather thin, leaving precious little room for depth.

It’s a shame that Biomutant isn’t a better put-together piece of software. Its world feels unique, the way it blends different combat styles is fun and it’s a visual treat to look at on a big 4K TV. But countless bugs, performance issues, overly talkative NPCs, boring quest design, and a sense of overall jank makes it hard to excitedly share this game with people. If you can put up with the rough edges and don’t mind an annoying narrator, you might have a good time with Biomutant. There is certainly a lot to do. But if you prefer more stable games, I’d advise waiting.

If you had to pick a console family to buy the game for right now, it would have to be Xbox. The game is only played through backward compatibility on the new generation of consoles, but as we’ve seen on plenty of occasions, that leaves Xbox Series X owners able to play at 4K, while PlayStation 5 players are running at last-gen resolutions and frame rates. In this case, the game is stuck at 1080p on PS5, and even then the frame rate has been a bit variable. That’s improved through pre-release patches, and will hopefully continue to improve. so you order a pepperoni pizza normally right, you've got you toppings and it all tastes good together (when doesn't pizza taste good)

a Biomutant pizza would be a pizza in a box, but instead of everything being combined together to form a wonderful delicious circle of happiness. what it actually is, is a box containing-

    a base
    some pepperoni
    some sauce
    some cheese.

that's what Biomutant is like, it *should* be really great but it's just not combined in a way that makes it enjoyable. (well to me anyway)
