Battlefield 1 is a great game, but the people giving it 10's are crazy or haven't played the game long enough. The single player is a solid 10. It's super fun, immersive and tells a great story... but it's pretty short. The graphics throughout the game are gorgeous, and everything is perfectly fluid.

Multiplayer unfortunately is about a 6, which is where you will spend most of your time. You've still got the great graphics, but in terms of actual gameplay it too often feels like a just whole bunch of chaos. War, of course, is chaos... so in some sense I guess that works, but the gist of what you do in every multiplayer scenario is run around randomly until you get killed or see a hint of moment and start shooting. There's sniping and healing, etc... but for the most part you play for a short burst until you get clipped by a random bullet. It's really frustrating when you start taking damage and can't figure out where it's coming from which happens constantly, and if you run around a corner an another enemy appears, skill takes a back seat to luck... what weapon are you carrying and how twitchy is your finger.

In Conquest mode, for example, you can choose to spawn on other teammates or certain spawn points, and before you have even turned around or walked two steps you are shot in the back of the head, and forced to respawn again. You might run out of a building and a bomb from a plane drops on your head... respawn again. Spawn in a tank, but the tank is at 10% health and you're suddenly dead again. And don't forget the enemies can spawn anywhere too... You might round a corner only to have someone spawn behind you. There's nothing you can do but take the death.

You will never feel like you are in control of the game or that you can just play better to change the outcome. Nor do you ever feel like winning means anything. You'll continue to play to get more weapon upgrades, but at the end of the day whether you are at the top or bottom of the scoreboard means nothing. Your team feels soooo impersonal.

Basically multiplayer feels very "casual".... It's really cool to chill and play like you're in a real war, but the randomness feels unrewarding and wins feel unrewarding.

Don't get me wrong... Battlefield 1 is a solid 7 great game. But it is far from a 10... It's a war simulator with very realistic graphics and effects. It's multiplayer is fun to play, but begins to get boring due to your lack of control of outcomes and generally unrewarding feeling you have after each match.

This is LITERALLY the exact same game that DICE has been shoving down our throats for years. Uninspired combat, awful weapons, and the ever so lovely "run run run die" style that makes pretty much all BF games terrible.

It's not a FPS war simulator. At all. It's a zerg fest with poor weapon options. The end.

Scoring system in the game is horrendous.. If one team gets up a couple hundred points early on, it is impossible to overcome.. You almost always know which team will win by the first 5 minutes of the game or so. The matchmaking is horrible, which has always been true of Battlefield games... You'll start a game with 30 people on one team, 20 on another, and the 30 person team builds a big enough lead before the other team fills up to guarantee them a win. Lastly, the guns kill too fast, which has been a trend of Battlefield games over the last 10 years..It's not something I appreciate.. I don't like getting shot in the back with a couple bullets and dying before I can turn around and engage the enemy.. I guess I'm in the minority in this thinking, but it's extremely frustrating to me.. I don't get any sense of accomplishment when I walk up behind a dude and waste him in 2 seconds either. Still a good game though. Expand

Some things need to be changed though:
Reviving someone should be 100 points to encourage people to do it more often, or just make it exactly the same as in bf hl.
The medals shouldn't need tracking or have different stages it should just be possible to do it all at the same time.
Assist counted as kill needs to be lowered to 75% of health like in hl.
The rest of the game though is brilliant or good enough despite those small setbacks and the core gameplay is fun and exhilarating.

Instead of modern time warfare, the franchise decides to go back 100 years where, “the war to end all wars”, begin. Now to many people, it may seem to them that it might be too boring because WW1 was very low on technology, weapons, and gear back in the past. But seeing the gameplay and the trailer, it is unbelievably fantastic and stunning. Just seeing the gameplay and improvements makes the gamer get into the action and play more. The big question, is this the best Battlefield game ever made of the franchise? When the first trailer came out, I watched it and first thing I thought was, “Wow this is WW1 I’m seeing”. And also seeing the gameplay makes more exciting and intense. And this totally made me buy the game, and playing is breathtaking. The game was fantastic, you get to play in the trenches, dog fights, ride horses, improved graphics, the savagery fight, and more destruction and chaos. Also multiplayer is really great, my favorite mode of playing multiplayer is operations, it’s a large scale map, and you either need to defend your sectors or conquer it. If you are someone that is a gamer and loves to play first shooter games but not those future fake warfare stuff, then I recommend buying this game. I think people would love this game because this is actual warfare that took place 100 years ago, and this game is very realistic to play. My preference of games, I like the realistic war games, either something in the past or modern. Now like future wack games like call of duty, to me they took it into future games, and that’s when I lost my favor of call of duty. So this makes Battlefield 1 the best game made in the battlefield franchise. Expand

When I first got into Battlefield (Bad Company), I never saw myself using an armored trooper with a Maxim machine gun, dropping bombs on populated sector or charging into a hail of gunfire to cheat death or fall. Battlefield has always been about bringing the intensity of the combat, newer things to flesh that experience out. Battlefield 1 does it in the best way possible, all out war and large scale operations and vintage (mostly historically accurate) weaponry.

For new players, forget what you know about every other shooter. Battlefield will train your failures into success the more you play it. At first, you may charge into battle hoping to find another to kill. At first, you will realize, that you are gunned down before snapping a shot in. So you die and respawn, begin to realize that moving too much is your enemy and that proper teamwork, accuracy and attacking carefully is the name of the game. (provided you aren't in a tank, which does change the dynamic slightly.) Second, you begin to understand what the hell classes/gadgets are and how they improve how you fight and survive longer.

Once you figure out that, you'll realized what you've missed all these years and realize that Call of Duty was the wrong shooter to play. Battlefield is where its at!

The game play is also well paced and each story they diversify what your doing. Its a shame they a so short because the characters never have room to grow and they all feel a bit rushed. For me the are a couple of important issues with this game though. performance on this PS4 version when playing large battles is poor, quite poor actually. The other issues for me is that I miss all the extra add-ons for the weapons that make the multiplayer a lot richer. Seems to be a bit of lack of content in my opinion. Battlepacks feel quite lame to me, I don't see the point in unlocking visuals although I do quite like the new medals system.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is a solid one. But...

    the good:
+The game force you to play objectives over Rambo kill. This is not a spawn kill game anymore, at last, no like bf 1943 where spawn kill is the real way to win.
+ tanks still overpowered. Yes, tanks need to be overpowered, is a f*king TANK! tanks were a new invention in ww1 and they were the fear of every one. indeed u have many effective ways to destroy them.
+ no hackers on console, or may be there are but really few. Actually hackers are a big problem for the PC version, EA you need to work on that, it is one of the few problems on pc version but a BIG one. FIX IT!
+ New mode called OPERATIONS. this mode is a brilliant idea, it is a mirror of how war really is. The match can be really long.
+ The campaign mode has a very good storytelling.
+ The gameplay, graphics and sound are 10/10. Thanks DICE for your awesome job.
+ the colossus weapons. they big war machines the game give to the lose team when the game is half ended. (Armored train, a zeppelin and a battleship.)

    the bad:
    - the campaign mode is good but to short, about 5 hours. An ideal campaign mode should be minimum 12 hours for a shooter, especially a WW1 shooter were many, many things happened. History is big, an the campaign to short.
    - no russian or french soldiers so, no russian or french weapons. This is a big disappointment for a game taking place in WW1. They said it will be sale in expansion pack. but, but, i have payed 70$ for a complete game!!!! this expansion should be free. Take example on Rockstar, EA, they sale millions of copies of GTA 5 because they did a complete game and expansions are for free!
    - only 9 maps for lunch day. A new one coming for free in dec, i hope a night map. Anyway, maps still really big like in previous release, thanks for that.

the game have positive and negative points, like any other game. so, i want to thanks EA and DICE for bringing us a really nice era of the human history for a badass FPS game.

Ok so the first thing i noticed was how bare BF1 is compared to past games. (more on that later)

This is not a perfect 10 by any long shot (pun intended) but the multiplayer is solid and connection issues are few and far between. But there are some annoying bugs and the lack of customisation is a let down too, the battlepacks are given out randomly and only ever contain weapon skins.

EA seem to have included some Battlefront style pick ups too, like the suit or armour (cant remember what its called) which basically feels like the Juggernaut perk from older Call of Duty games.

The gameplay online is also very much like its competition, you will spawn behind enemies and they will spawn behind you. The maps are much more compact and encourage rushing in, the focus is now on ground combat it seems.

It all feels a little barren and here's whats missing (at launch) that was present in past BF games:

    *Commander Mode
    *Hardcore
    *Customisation of soldier
    *Customisation of weapons
    *Squad game modes

These are my impressions of multiplayer at launch, im sure EA will patch a lot of whats broken (like those damn horses) but as it is, today, its good but just not great.

This game is amazing. Since the launch of the new generation consoles there hasn't been a game that has exceeded my expectations until now. DICE has done a tremendous job at delivering wonderful product. We are taken back to The Great War in an immersive environment filled with jaw dropping gameplay. There is quite a bit of content which will keep me engaged for quite awhile

Battlefield 1 offers a truly incredible multiplayer experience. Unlike most games with well done graphics, the jaw dropping effect doesn't really go away with this game. This is because there is almost always bound to be some sort of surprise had in store, be it from a plane crash missing you by an inch or a tank popping up out of nowhere and blasting you to oblivion. And during all ofBattlefield 1 offers a truly incredible multiplayer experience. Unlike most games with well done graphics, the jaw dropping effect doesn't really go away with this game. This is because there is almost always bound to be some sort of surprise had in store, be it from a plane crash missing you by an inch or a tank popping up out of nowhere and blasting you to oblivion. And during all of this action packed excitement the game pulls off the task of looking great.

Because of this the game succeeds in immersing you in the action. The serious tone that it took accompanied by a piano-laden music score and solemn narration creates an internal consistency and gives the game a more mature undertone.

Nevertheless, the game does suffer sometimes from performance issues. This seemed to occur to me the most when playing medic, as I'd toss out my medic pack and nothing would happen for a full five seconds, which is a bigger deal than it seems when every second counts in battle.

Furthermore, the campaign suffers, like most other Battlefield games. Battlefield 1's campaign is certainly better than its two predecessors, but that isn't saying much. Often times the emotion that they were trying to convey in the story felt underwhelming due to lack of complex writing and uninteresting gameplay. There are a few good moments, but those are somewhat far and between.

Overall, however, Battlefield 1 really makes up for its faults in the absolutely stellar multiplayer experience, an experience that contains much more depth (the ability to customize, the historical accuracy, the map design, etc) than other multiplayer games like Overwatch.

Stunning visuals and fun multiplayer action!
BF1 is an amazingly fun game. It may not be historically accurate but it is fun!
EA and DICE valued fun over historical accuracy which may be frustrating to
the gamer who is a historical shooter fan, but I don't mind what it lacks in
historical accuracy it makes it up in the sheer fun factor alone.
I greatly recommend this game. 10/10

For example I thought the modern BF games were tremendously boring on PS3 (on BF3 the maps were too big for so few players, for example). With that in mind, I was a bit skeptic to say the least when BF1 was announced. During the beta it was confirmed: I did not like BF. But I tried it at a friends place over new years and got hooked. This game is so well built.

The single player has a surprisingly good campaign that doesn't end in 4 hours. I don't know if the game is worth it solely for the solo campaign, but it's close. They have managed to capture the gritty feeling of World War I; BF1 does a very good job at presenting the hell this war was. The campaign is composed of several short stories that offer a variety of missions. Best of all: it doesn't feel like a tutorial for the multiplayer.

The multiplayer is also very good. Several different game modes, from the bombastic Operations (a more story based kind of game mode that could well take 1-1,5 hours to play) to the fast paced War Pigeons which is sort of a mobile "capture the hill", or a version of Capture the flag but without bases. It is super intense and an instant favorite. A round could take anything from 3 to 30 minutes. But it feels longer. The game is also well balanced for each class, so that none of the 4 classes are overpowered compared to each other. It's all down to how you decide to play. A positive consequence here is that if you get bored assaulting, simply switch class to something else and change your way of playing. It will add new dimensions to the game.

There are few minor mishaps that prevents this game from getting a 10, but those problems are quite easy to oversee.

In conclusion, this is by far the best Battlefield game I have ever played and the most fun I've had with the series since when 1942 was first released. I hope they stay away from modern warfare games for a while now and let this game brew a lot longer.

An astonishing and refreshing title in the whole bunch of sci-fi arcade shooters. Useful SP to learn the basics, incredibly rich MP, where to spend up to thousands of hours, and never feel it's enough.
There are some netcode issues from time to time, acceptable at the end of the day for a title which is monthly updated stil after 2 years from release.

    ---The Campaign---
Holy s*** a BF campaign I actually care about and enjoyed, I haven't had this feeling since the days of Bad Company. In the BF game you will "Relive" some epic moments of many different soldiers on many different fronts. Sadly no French, Russian, Ottoman, German, Austria-Hungary. The game just feels epic in ANY of the campaigns you play in, probably the least enjoyable to me was the Italian campaign but that may just be me.

Now to the issues I have the campaign and I'll s*** on this game alot for it (But don't let that mislead you, it's still an incredibly enjoyable game). The SJW themes in this movie. White/Europe/British just as bad as the Ottomans, thats the message I got from the story tellers especially in the middle Eastern campaign. And you'll get this theme alot of the game designers overly trying to be inclusive.

    -----Multiplayer-----
"We wuz snipers en shiat" Sorry terrible joke on part but continuing on from the SJW talk, yes I have yet to play a "Sniper class" that isn't Black. Even for the Germans, apparently the Germans enlisted heavily from their massive black population to feed into the meat grinder. I'm of course joking, and find it laughable that the game devs couldn't atleast attempt to keep it close to history. And because it doesn't stay close to history it personally breaks the immersion for me occasionally. But again NO BIG DEAL, just a minor gripe.

The multiplayer is very fun, even getting spanked and losing horribly I've yet to have a "Throw my controller" moment because the game is still fun even when losing. There is just way to much to talk about for here, just pick it up and try yourself YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!

Battlefield 1 is a first person shooter placed in WW1 and published by EA. This action packed shooter starts at a price around the $60 range and is rated M. An explanation for Battlefield 1 having such a good reveiws is because the Campaign is unique, it is split up into 5 different war stories from different people and how they were affected by the war.

Battlefield 1’s Multiplayer is one of the best ever created, the game modes included are Conquest,Rush,War Pigeons,Operations, and Many many more because BF1 has an option to make your own mode to your own liking.

While playing BF1 multiplayer you are given 4 options for classes + Extra Special classes like mechanic and pilot. The normal 4 classes include the medic, support, assault, and scout. All of these classes include different abilities and gear so it is good to have your team balanced with a decent amount of all 4.

The bad things in BF1 are actually the glitches that can occur while playing multiplayer. These glitches are usually not that bad but it could go from not being able to quit a match or even not having a gun.

Besides the unfortunate glitches, Battlefield 1 is one of the most balanced and solid game i have ever played because of the graphics, story, and overall being different from other franchises. If i were you i would grab a copy of BF1 now.

A visually stunning game, with depth and emotion tethered into the single player campaign. It's the only game I've played to make you feel the gravity of war and what it meant to those fighting in it. The single player is a little short, but that doesn't mean it isn't thoroughly enjoyable.

The multiplayer has had me hooked for months. Stunning effects, explosions, destructible structures and a wide array of vehicles to play with. When it comes to the weapons, I've read other reviews complaining about how inaccurate they are, how weak they are etc etc. Well, newsflash, World War 1 was over 100 years ago, so expect the guns to be 100% perfect.

Overall, a brilliant game, occasionally buggy, but thoroughly enjoyable nonetheless. I plan on playing this game for a long time to come.

But this games bread and butter, at least for the cost of $60, is clearly in the multiplayer. This is where most players will probably spend their time and justify their expense. For me, I just cannot get into the multiplayer. I don't understand it, and I am not good at it. I feel like I am running around like a chicken with its head cut off, not sure where to go next and what to do, and when I finally get a small sense of direction and what my goal is - I die! Wait for the respawn and then hop in and do it again. It is just "wash and repeat" for me, which is no fun. To be fair this is how all multiplayer games are for me, not just this game. If you love multiplayer games, then this game will probably be for you. But those who are looking for a nice satisfying single-player campaign (which I would give a 9 score for that), I would wait for the price to come down to around $25. It is a really nice campaign, just too short to spend $60 in my opinion. I made the mistake of buying this game digitally (my bag). Now I am stuck with a game I may only play one more time in the single-player. Should have bought disc and then sold for $45 on Glyde, but lesson learned I hope. Expand

    Multiplayer:
Wonderful, classic BF multiplayer. Large scale 32 vs 32 battles always keep the action flowing throughout entire Conquest matches. Surprisingly in the 15 hours that I've put in, I haven't experienced one connection issue. The only negative that I've experienced is that there are certain instances in which hit detection has felt a little "off".

If you enjoy FPS games and want to go back in time to The Great War, this is a 1000% buy. Hell, even if you are fans of great games, pick this one up.

The most perfect FPS game I've ever played (and I'm playing games for >20 years), with the best multiplayer I've ever experienced. Call of Duty is nowhere near this work of art, which to me makes this game dominate the FPS genre.

I wasn't a fan of battlefield and was very scepticle when it came to getting this game. But it's definitely been worth it so far. Beautiful gameplay. I didn't score a 10/10 due to a few minor bugs I've seen with scope sights sometimes missing, and i've fallen through the map once lol.

Battlefield 4 is more addictive. And 1 has too few online trophies, and Bad Company 2 had such fun helicopters and jeeps where in comparison 1 feels like a lite version of the more hectic modern games.

Also, it seems they adjusted the health-bar so that soldiers die faster from less damage. So there are few real shootouts, more instant deaths just when an enemy pops into view. Maybe

The only totally positive aspect of 1 is that there's a sense of exploring a historical period. It feels detailed and well researched. Oh yeah and it runs well enough.

However since the fall of Call Of Duty, and the general disappointment of FPS in general I have kept a vested eye on Battlefield 1. Seeing the gorgeous visuals, and the return to the World War, I had hoped for the definitive War FPS game of the new generation.

The only thing I had heard about the game in the negative was the campaign being a bit lacking, but honestly since playing it I have to say it's one of the best FPS campaigns since COD4. It's a brilliant series of stories that really pack the punch of mortality and survival.

So the most important points to cover are gameplay and visuals. This game looks incredible, I had to pause and shows others the levels and atmosphere on multiple occasions just because how stunningly real everything looks. I will be replaying and coming back to this game for a long time just to re-live the visuals and atmosphere.
The gameplay is perfect. The guns feel old and exactly as they should, but also aren't too hindering, they're fun to shoot, they feel very physical. The movement is good, moving around maps isn't as frustrating as it is with many other games which constantly weigh you down, or burn down your stamina very quickly, making every movement a chore. The level design is great, and feels very much a warzone rather than just a paintball gun game arena. The cities, desertscapes and mountains all feel real, beautiful but fragile, and the stories add to the game rather than distract from it. Every mission feels like something you need to do because you are the character rather than a chore you have to fulfil to further the story, which is something I havne't felt with an FPS for a long time.

Absolutely recommend this game if you in any way like FPS, this is the FPS to get.

As a side note the recent Wolfenstein games are pretty good as is Doom 4, but honestly they failed to keep my interest SP completion, and Rainbow Six Siege is a pretty well made tactical fps,but it is a little too trapped in grinding and unlocking, and digital currencies for my liking.

    Graphics
The game looks amazing, from the textures to the particle effects - a true next-gen Battlefield game!
Motion capture has been used for the cut-scenes which makes the characters look far more realistic and expressive.

    Sound
The return to a classical score adds to the drama and suits the era well.
The voice acting is mixed - the foreign and British voices come across well but the American actors are terrible!
The shots, flame, explosions, vehicles and soldier banter all sound great... the horse sample however, is terrible! It sounds like The Sugar Hill Gang are scratching it :p

    Gameplay
I wasn't alone in being concerned about the weapons and vehicles that were used in WW1 but fortunately, Dice decided to drop historical accuracy in favour of playability which (pedantry aside) was the right choice.
The weapons are mostly usable but the class restrictions can be limiting. Mortars are great for defending objective-based games.
Sentry kits are a nice addition, available to pick up in certain spots in the game, they give you a unique weapon setup and armour. There's anti-tank, flame-thrower and a very powerful and rapid SMG.
There's a decent selection of tanks and aircraft (if you can find them) but the bike is atrocious.
The horse is a nice addition but overpowered - you can charge against 10 guns and come out mostly unharmed. It's annoying however when your horse gets stuck on a random bit of scenery as standing still will get you killed very quickly.
The Reinforcement vehicle (Train / Dreadnought / Blimp) is another nice addition - the idea is to grant the ailing side a chance of getting back into the game with a powerful armoured vehicle... I've seen it turn the battle a few times but mostly, it's poorly utilised by a selfish pilot who just wants to boost their own kill count, rather than getting close enough to the necessary base so that all gun emplacements can be used effectively. They need to take the most powerful gun away from the pilot seat to fix this.
There's a decent selection of maps but after just 2 weeks, I'm already thirsting for more.
There's the usual CQ, Rush, Domination and Deathmatch game modes but couple of new modes: War Pigeons and Operations.
War Pigeons is a close-quarter fight where you have to acquire a pigeon and stay alive long enough for you to attach & release a message - a bit of fun for 10 minutes but no lasting appeal for me.
Operations is immense! It's what Rush should be. It's a multi-stage Rush-style game where you have to capture and retain all bases in a sector - if you do, you clear out remaining defensive forces and push on to the next sector, signalled by trench whistles and the rousing cheers of your countrymen - if you fail, you get 2 more pushes but importantly, you get a reinforcement vehicle after a failed push.
It's incredibly tough to complete Operations when attacking (especially the 3-stage "Oil of Empires") but it's the best addition to Battlefield game modes in a very long time.
The single-player "War Stories" are very good and definitely worth playing.

    Summary
If you only buy one FPS this year, make it BF1!
Occasional glitches (going under the map or being unable to shoot), server and squad joining issues prevent me from giving it a 10 but it's the most functional BF game at release that I can remember.

BF1 has single-handedly brought them back from the dead. They have dared to turn the norm on its head.

The main story-line is absolutely epic. Engaging in REAL battles that actually happened during the first world war is not only thought inspiring its actually informative too. WW2 Europe is as deadly as it is beautiful.

The graphics are what next gen are supposed to be, Crystal clear. Movement is fluid and loose. The sounds and voice actors are spot on. The environment is brutal and as realistic as your gona get.

Multiplayer is such an improvement on all previous shooting games. BF1 is all about team work and supporting your squad. Rewards are based on objectives, not kills. This gets rid of the camping douchebags of other FPS games hiding in corners with a shotgun and popping off enemies to get in that precious unearned air support.

Battlefield1 absolutely owns all other first person shooters. The dominance of money grabbing 'Call of Kerching' is long dead.

Go buy BF1 now, you wont be disappointed.

When I first heard about it, I loved the idea of a WW1 shooter. When I played the beta, I was honestly disappointed. When I finally picked up the game, I was immediately hooked. It had one of the best intros I've ever seen in a video game. Before I even saw the main menu, I was thrown right into the middle of a giant battle with what seemed to be the Americans and the Germans. Each time I died, I switched to the perspective of a new character, really giving a feel for how many people died in World War 1. This prologue is the first of 6 War Stories, Battlefield 1's campaign. Each one tells a different story of a soldier in the war. I will admit that I enjoyed some more than others, but the overall experience is good. It is short, however, only running at about 6-7 hours long. But the multiplayer is where Battlefield 1 truly stands out. All of the regular Battlefield modes have been brought back, but one new addition is Operations, in which you take over territory on a large map, then push forward to a different map once you've taken the first one. It's easily the best part of Battlefield 1, and I've already invested a number of hours into it. Some of my favorite moments have come from playing Operations, and I have no doubt that they'll keep coming. Now I bet a lot of you are asking the same question: does this game have microtransactions? Well no, actually. Points to EA because you can't purchase Battlepacks with actual money. I didn't expect to see restraint from them in this area. One problem that I do have with this game is all of the "coming soon" options you see in the menu. It's clear that this will be included as DLC down the line. It's a minor problem, but that and the short length of the campaign keep Battlefield from being a 10. That doesn't stop this game from being incredible, though, as Battlefield 1 is easily the best entry in the franchise yet. I didn't expect this to be a game of the year contender, but that's exactly what it is. 9/10. Expand
