Although not as prolific as the Walking Dead series, Batman is a super interesting take on the Dark Knight. Choose between being an insanely violent Batman, or the Batman with "rules", and decide the direction of Gotham and its people. The only obstacle I faced when it comes to WANTING to play more was the first episode. The first episode is clearly an introduction to who Bruce Wayne and he came to be Batman. We all know how Bruce Wayne came to be Batman. I thought the introduction was completely redundant. That said, after that I was totally hooked. So many twists and turns, not to mention choices that really made me consider the consequences for. It was not easy. My biggest gripe is the engine. Outdated and inconsistent the so called Telltale tool engine is a "ball and chain" to telltale games. Horrid frame rates, consistent crashes and sometimes ridiculous lag spikes really take away from the overall experience. I just don't get it. This engine has been a problem for Telltale since the first Walking Dead season. Several series, and seasons later we are still seeing the same, which gives me the impression that Telltale just doesn't care. They really should because it is starting to show incompetence. Telltale games aren't doing anything technically demanding. It is simple as simple can be so my question is why? Why can't we get these games running as intended? Supposedly the engine used for Batman is a new engine yet here we are again. Ok. Rant over. Despite all of that, Batman is worth playing, and at 25 bucks its a lot of bang for your buck. A note to Telltale if they happen to see this: Please, Please, Please for the love of Christ, fix your engine! This is insane, and quite frankly there is just no excuse for this in 2016! Expand

Good but not Great. I really had so many expectation with this game but only few were fulfilled. Telltale Batman is a good game with really good action scenes and good story but it didn't left any impact on the mind, I mean very few scenes I can remember from this game because I recently just finished it and by the time pass I may not remember that this game even exist. I'm not saying its a bad game, its just that I expected from this game to deliver just like Telltale did with Walking Dead Season 1 & 2 and also The Wolf Among Us.

Batman in this game is really awesome and trust me He is the best thing in this game, Catwomen had her charm and was an interesting character, James Gordon didn't felt like a powerful character because he had less screen time, & Hervey Dent felt more of a beggar then a politician.

Now don't get me wrong by telling about the characters because its just my perception about these characters maybe others who are playing may like them. There are some scenes where you get so much in to it because the scenes are so tense but this happens 2 or 3 times in this game.

Story is good, Batman is amazing and the point where you have to create links is amazing because you get so much involve to find answers and when you do it feels really good.

So the final verdict is that if you are a telltale series fan then you should definitely try this game because this Game may have its ups and downs but overall its a good game.

But with that out of the way, after finally finishing the game a couple of days later, I found also its biggest strengths: a very engaging dive into the dark knight's persona, his emotional scars and the weight of his choices, some very nicely put story moments and some well handled branches that really feel meaningful. So all in all, Batman: A telltale series is a flawed game that nevertheless presents an overall well crafted story of the dark knight and it's probably the best game to handle the Bruce Wayne part of the character so far, and that barring a few disappointing moments, it does things well enough to satisfy me as a fan. Can't recommend for everyone though, specially if this point and click games aren't your thing, but if you are a Batman fan, pick it up, you won't regret it. Final verdict: 7.1 Expand

Telltale's had the same "storytelling formula" for years, and Batman:TTS follows that formula. None of your choices *truly* affect the outcome in ways that are significant, but they are good writers, and you WILL be entertained. That said, they need to do something fresh with the formula, because it's 100% starting to get stale. Changing the settings and stories can only work for so long when it's obvious that the player's ability to actually influence the story is minimized by the system in which the story takes place. Just my opinion.

It's a failure as a point and click adventure. That said, the animation is great, fluid, much better than any animated Batman movie or TV show. The acting is excellent, and the story so far seems great too. As a Batman animated movie, this might be a 10, better than all the rest. But as a game it's just too easy. Unbelievably easy. I wish Telltale games would put some effort into their games' difficulty. They can include the game as-is, but make that the super easy setting for non-gamers. They can add meaningful choices and real puzzles that actually require thought, for a harder setting. Telltale has everything in place to make games that are every bit as good as Lucas Arts in its heyday, but they just don't seem to want to go there, preferring instead to make games that look fantastic and tell great stories, but really do not rate as games at all. Your average Nancy Drew point and click game is far more challenging than this, and frankly is better as a game. Expand

My review on Batman: The Telltale Series. Score: 5/10. And I'm stil being generous with that score! I'll explain why.

Back on summer we all were like 'OMG, a Batman game by Telltale! Finally more detective puzzles". Wrong. These are non-existent. There's one or two per episode, and they are as easy as click and read and just connect. Nothing that resembles to investigate nor think. Trial and error (if you can fail, lol).

As said, these games are all starting to feel the same. You read, you choose, decide... The game makes you think your decisions are important, but they are not, except in very few occasions. You can be an **** and then be nice and the result will be the same.

That brings us to the story. It's fine, but not exceptional. It's almost the very beginnings of Batman's crusade, so he's a bit green. With that, the story introduces us to the typical Batman's foes, yet modernized: Two Face, Falcone, Penguin, Catwoman... and a bit of The Joker, whom, just like in the movie "Suicide Squad", you expect more of him but you get a bit dissapointed (SPOILER: although he isn't presented yet as a Batman's enemy in this storyline, to be fair). As a fan of Batman, I wanted more, but feels right.

Once more, the game experience: I've already talked about the decisions system and the detective parts, now comes the more 'dynamique' sections: the fights. Of course, it's a Telltale game, you can't expect it to be super dynamique: for that, we have the Rocksteady games. But once more, just like the decisions, it doesn't matter again: if you fail the moves, Batman will still hit and win. In very scarce moments a fail means 'Game Over'. You could sometimes leave the gamepad still and win. LIKE THAT. It'd been ideal if, you failed a move, the combat would prolongate, or the combat result would change even if a bit.

For last... well, I played the PS3 version, but still, this game's graphics look like they come from a PS2 and yet the frame rate is insulting, at time the game it's very slow, which is bothering during a fight. And then another annoying thing is how the game is constantly loading, and sometimes every 10 seconds it stops for 2-3 seconds before jumping to the next scene. I don't know if it happens with the PS4/XBOne/PC versions, but the PS3 one it gets annoying. Same comes with the texts sometimes (specialy the Spanish version, with tons of mistakes and sometimes they translate it wrong, or forget to), yet the voice acting is acceptable.

And with that, my last review of the year. If you ever are going to buy it, do it when it is very cheap, or on some Steam Sale. If not, then I'd recommend playing the The Walking Dead series, or The Wolf Among US (I ignore if Game of Thrones is any good, and I'm looking forward to Guardians of The Galaxy nex year).

It didn't help how the game tried to make it look like an investigation game in some parts: you can't do mistakes and there's no variable: it's either you do it or do not. There are no consequences really.

Add the fact that it's highly unstable on ps4 (fps drops, crashes) despite not looking really complex (heck I think walking dead looked better), makes this port very questionable.

I recommend it if you can get it cheap, or else either go to pc or another game entirely...

All of the characters you know are there but this is a very fresh story that builds into something very unique that holds your attention well.

    Gameplay: 3/10
Unfortunately, gameplay is where marks are drastically lost...
I'm no stranger to TTG (Tales From The Borderlands and The Wolf Among Us are 2 of my all-time favourite games) so I wasn't expecting much in the way of gameplay but it's the flakiest bugfest TTG have had the cheek to release!
There's graphical glitches all over the place, the sound and video regularly go out of sync, QTEs expire before they appear and it crashes so often that you feel using the disc as a batarang!
I'm playing v1.05 so God knows what the previous versions were like - The residents of Arkham Asylum are more stable!

    Overall: 5/10
The story was just good enough for me to bear with the technical shortfalls of this game but I would recommend staying away from the PS4 version until all the bugs have been worked out.

Technically each episode suffered from various glitch, sometimes even freeze which is unacceptable for an interactive story and a studio with so much experience in this domain. It's probably because they improved their engine a lot which offers much nicer graphics (very close to an actual comic) but I'd have preferred a flawless game with the older graphics.

The gameplay is the same that in every Telltale game, meaning you'll choose different course of actions/dialogues as the story unfolds. You'll pass the action sequences with QTEs. It's not really a movie, it's not a full gaming experience neither, it's something in between like all their games and not everybody will like this.

The story is a new interpretation of a young Batman (he doesn't know any of the classic super villain yet) with their own new touch. The extremely rich lore of Batman offers a infinity of scenarios possible and on this point the game doesn't disappoint, unfortunately there will be some moments that don't mean much. But the biggest disappoint is how little your decisions will change the events and you'll have to wonder if there's really a choice. In addition the game is very short (between 1 hour and 1 hour and half for each episode) when you remember that for their first games it was 2 hour per episode and a lower price tag it hurts a bit.

In conclusion this series will please Batman and Telltale fans despite multiple bugs and a short story that doesn't change that much depending of the choices. But if you don't know how Telltalle games work there are better options to try it out.

Not everything is bad though. As I said, the intrigue is very slow to start, but once it’s started, it actually gets interesting and pretty well written. Moreover I think they did a very good job on what regards the artistic direction and the environments. Gotham feels very Gotham and in general the Batman universe vibe is heavily present. I think that this element and the story make it worth playing if you get it for free, but not otherwise.

Having played the wolf among us I knew what to expect from the gameplay. Primarily quicktime events and decisions which affect the outcome of the story. That was fine but what let me down was the story and presentation of characters.
First of all, the game was a little too focused on Bruce Wayne. His ties to Harvey dent's mayoral campaign, problems with his company and issues surrounding the legacy of his parents. I'd prefer to see a stronger focus on Batman and a stronger version of Batman as well. He came off as being a little too sensitive at times, certainly not the dark, brooding figure i'm more familiar with.
The villains weren't captured well either. Penguin was tall, slim and good looking. He didn't have his characteristic vicious attitude either and attempts to build interest in his character through flashbacks fell flat.
The worst was probably the joker, the voice acting was pretty poor in comparison with Mark Hamill and he certainly didn't give the impression of being a psychotic genius bent on bringing Gotham to its knees.
There's a new villain too acting as main offender in the series and they are just quite dull.
By the end of the game I was quite happy it was over. It certainly wasn't terrible, just a wasted opportunity to tell a much richer story. There was never a real sense that Gotham was in danger or that Batman had lost anything. In the end victory came quite easily and with little sacrifice. If you'd like to try a good telltale game i'd recommend the wolf among us but not this. It's fun in parts but certainly nothing special.

Telltale's Shtick is getting a bit old at this point; of course it doesn't help to have a story that has plot holes the size of the Grand Canyon and have technical issues across all platforms despite the relatively simplistic art style. It's not a horrible game by any means, however it is nothing memorable at the same time. This game isn't the game we need, and it surely isn't the game we deserve.

    So to sum it up:
    Game itself: 9/10
    Technical state: 3.5/10

The stand out part of this experience is that I could chose to be a edgy darker version of Batman or not.

I can see why Telltale is failing as a company. Not just due to the same old formula again, but with the ignorant level of writing just wow. This feels like it is a elsewhere Batman story and if it was what they was going for? Then I get the very off direction with the Wayne family.

This was the first Telltale game I have played, and that was probably a mistake considering that I have heard there are some really great ones out there like Tales from the Borderlands and The Walking Dead Series. All in all the game is an easy Platinum Trophy and the story is kind of weak, but I guess it is set up in a way to lead into more Batman stories. Finding out Lady Arkham's back story was surprising and a bit grim. Like other TT games, there will be no reason to replay this again unless you have someone in your household that has not played it yet. **My review is based off of the disc version of the game and is scored slightly lower than my review for the XBox One version due to some of the episodes starting off very sluggish and choppy before the game engine catches up with it.** Expand

What do you get when you mix the Caped Crusader, know for an amazing rogues gallery, being the greatest detective alive and a master hand-to-hand fighter with endless gadgets with Telltale's on-rails, choice-based storytelling? The answer is a decent story which focuses more on Bruce than his alter ego which both gains and struggles due to the constraints of the TellTale formula.

The Good - The story presents a nice twist on a good bunch of the Batman characters we all know and love and is engaging. It usually allows you to be the Batman you want to be and more than a few times showes you that your decisions actually do matter, tho not to the maximum extent one would wish.

The Bad - An endless amount of graphical and audio bugs. Considering that this is far from a visually impressive game, there is 0 reason for there to be any bugs at all, let alone the absurd amount on display here. Storywise, the finale ends up being one of the weakest parts of the story, giving you a half-baked payoff to what could have been a legit emotional story. Also the Shadow Mode should be free considering it's a BW gimmick which only ever looked good 3-4 times during the whole game - very little effort was put into it.

Verdict - Batman:The TellTale Series is a good if a bit disappointing game that allows you to be the Batman but only if your idea of Batman falls in line with one of their binary concepts of what the Caped Crusader should be. Meh ending aside, it's a story worth playing through. - 7/10

In general, I found it was a good story. It took classic Batman elements and told the story in a different way than we are used too. The only downside to it is that this is the only Telltale in which I felt my choices didn't matter. I replayed it and mostly there are small details that change but they don't deliver the same impact as other Telltale games.

Played this as I got it free a while ago for being a playstation plus member. Man, it was quite disappointing to be honest. Lackluster story, quite obvious plot. I do like a Telltale game, something that tells a story, is no effort to play where your choices have consequences. Something to play if you're tired and want to chill out to.

I am a huge fan of Telltale Games and their Batman isn't as great as The Walking Dead of The Wolf Among Us is but it was worth playing. It was nice to see a Batman game designed by Telltale Games.

I am a huge Batman fan. I love the character and have enjoyed all other Telltale games I've played. I don't mind the copious amount quick time events or the lack of impactful choices that their games typically feature. I'll be writing a short review for each episode giving them all a score. Then I'll use the average score (rounding up) to dictate the final score for Batman: The TelltaleI am a huge Batman fan. I love the character and have enjoyed all other Telltale games I've played. Then I'll use the average score (rounding up) to dictate the final score for Batman: The Telltale Series developed by Telltale Games (obviously).

EPISODE 1: I really enjoyed this episode from start to finish. It was well balanced as well as paced. The acting was incredible particularly from the brilliant Troy Baker as Bruce/Batman and Richard McGonagle as the main villain Carmine Falcone. Baker has an excellent range, I mean he voiced Batman twice, Joker twice, Robin and even Two-Face for crying out loud. Hearing him deliver, "write it down, now" in a Conroy-esc voice and tone sent shivers down my spine. Perfect casting.

I'm definitely interested in the takes Telltale has on these villains particularly Penguin who has a shockingly lean and lanky build for the character. Overall the atmosphere is thick and the story is well written and engaging. Telltale clearly has a great understanding of The Batman lore and isn't afraid to be bold and show their own takes on these beloved characters. That makes me excited for what's to come.

I really enjoyed the detective aspects of this episode as well. Often Batman stories forget that The Caped Crusader is in fact "the world's greatest detective". It was fun to connect the dots and piece together mysteries. The soundtrack is moody and full of gravitas embodying the dark, heroism that Batman embodies. It's up there with Walker's theme for me honestly.

I must say though, it didn't seem like my choices affected the outcomes of this episode much. As an example, I thought I was wise refusing to shake Falcone's hand at the manor but it didn't seem to make a difference in the end. Maybe these choices will pay off later. Even if my choices don't make a noticeable mark and even if Telltale's opening phrase "The game series adapts to the choices you make. The story is tailored by how you play" is perhaps exaggerated I enjoyed the opening to Batman: The Telltale Series. I give it a 7/10.

EPISODE 2: Immediately this episode establishes a darker more sombre tone. Exploring the fractured, damaged psyche of Bruce and the duality he is forced to confront as the situation gets more personal and tense.

Episode 2 seems positively more choice based as a Telltale game should be. There is even an interesting choice given to the player on whether or not to tackle a situation as Bruce or Batman. It becomes apparent this is a younger Batman, early in his career, rash, violent and more headstrong. Some of the plot developments were very interesting and the relationship between Bruce and Alfred is as gripping and tear-jerking as ever. I also really enjoyed the stylistic choice of giving Penguin a creepy, realistic and grungy mask.

This episode is definitely shorter than the previous one. And the pacing, though still tight, is poor in some places. In particular, there was some lacklustre, half-baked sections of detective work which let me down since I really enjoyed those scenes in the previous episode.

I wasn't a fan of how they tackled Batman's fight scenes. I understand him taking the less stealthy approach considering the point in his career but he simply felt too powerful in the fight scenes. Don't get me wrong, the choreography is brilliant and the action is fun to watch play out but he barely ever takes a hit and only suffers minor setbacks. What makes Batman such an inspiring character in the DC universe is that he is only human. He takes hits, physically and emotionally, he bleeds and loses but he keeps getting up to fight for what's right. All in all, I enjoyed this episode immensely if a little less than the previous one due to a shorter run time, some jarring tonal shifts, less variation and some graphical glitches. I also cannot wait to see how a major final choice on whether to save Harvey or Selina impacts future episodes. I'll give this one a 6/10.

EPISODE 3: I'm running out of space to write in depth reviews of each chapter so I'll keep things brief. The 3rd episode had be truly invested in the plot. My criticism with the previous episode was that Batman felt invincible and unstoppable which made him less relatable and the villains less threatening this was remedied in this episode with Batman suffering a crushing setback psychically and mentally. I'm loving Selina and Harvey's character arcs. I'm not sure how to feel about the truly shocking final twist as of yet. I'm so engaged in the plot and can't wait to see where it goes next. My choices didn't seem to affect this episode much unfortunately. Better than episode one but only just so it still gets a 7, but a high seven. 7/10

EPISODE 4: I'm running out of space. Great episode. 6/10

    EPISODE 5: 5/10

The story might be alright, but the sheer number of qte's needed to make this 'action' game work makes it boring to play. If rather the action took place while you watched, rather than pressing 100 different button combos in the span of a minute.

I played this in Aug 2022 for the first time and enjoyed the story but there was a few times that characters should have been talking but it was silent along with parts that should had have music but once again silence. License expired? If it wasnt for that i would have probably given this game an eight. They did good job telling a Batman story.

Batman: The Telltale Series started strong and ended the same way, and with many characters’ fates left undecided and new characters appearing in the final act, a second season seems inevitable — I look forward to it.

An underwhelming Batman game, but a great Bruce Wayne one. A satisfying counterpart to Rocksteady's Arkham games, but it won't win over Telltale naysayers. [Feb 2017, p.93]

With so many Dark Knight adventures in our movies, TV, comics, and video games, you have to do something special to stand out. In the first few episodes, it looked like Batman: The Telltale Series might actually bottle lightning and create something excellent. But as the finale rolls in, it series fails to separate itself from the many Batman outings we’ve already experienced elsewhere.
