(Which is for me still the best AC game.) Paris is beautiful and detailed, story is very simple but not so bad as in AC3 and Co-Op is SO Stupid and you can only get in if you take the player as your friend on uPlay..So game is pretty good if just "UPLAY" it without any other people. Here goes another BUT..If you have slower versions of i5 CPU or GTX cards lower than GTX780 series and less than 8GB RAM..THIS GAME IS SIMPLY--->NOT FOR YOU

As a tour of revolutionary France, AC: Unity is wonderful. It's graphics are great and Its level of detail in NPC behavoiur is quite astounding, making the streets of France feel very alive and busy. As a game however, it's playable, but increadibly unpolished.

From the very beginning i felt like it was trying to be something similar to Assassin's Creed 2, which in my honest opinion is the best Assassin's Creed game today. But it fails to deliver, it feels copied, cheap, unorganized!

It seems like Ubisoft tried to make the game look good, and then forgetting what the core of a game should be, which is gameplay as any avid gamer knows.

First off there's the FPS problems, now Ubisoft said 30 FPS was their target, which is fine by me considering it's a console game, but i rarely hit 30, heck, i rarely hit 20 FPS, I'm usually at 10-15 FPS. Then there's the glitches, i hop into a haystack, and I'm stuck, having to close the game and open it again, i could go on with the glitches but it's pointless, it's just bad coding and bad priorities.

Now if you ask me, i love the Assassin's Creed series, I've been played since the launch of Assassin's Creed 1, and I've loved every single one of them up until now.

I'm giving it 5, cause Paris does look quite good, but that's all the game is!

ACU. Don't really know what to say about the physics and condition that Ubi let this potential masterpiece go out with. But i must say that Paris is really great, Arno is likable. i feel bad that this game came out the way it did but you guys did an awesome job with FC4.

All-in-all. Frame rate aside, Enjoyed the game some what.

I've played them all. There's to many.
Ubisoft need to calm down. AC doesn't have to be a yearly release. Two more games to tie it up, two years apart. Thats all you're aloud ubisoft. It shouldn't be this mindless, buggy crap year after year. Probably should have ended with Desmond.

One thing i didn't appreciate was the micro transactions. £50 -£60 AAA title and they're still trying to milk more money out of you. In the game you're constantly skint. It waves fancy weapons and armour in your face, you run around and do all the side missions (pretty much the only way to make money) and by the time you've done them all you can only really afford one or two decent items.

Not their best effort but at least it didn't have any of that pirate ship pish

Set after the events of AC3 and AC Rogue, Assassin's Creed Unity is a big beautiful buggy mess. There were so much missed opportunities that can be implemented but I guess Ubisoft were greedy to give a smidt. At least, Dead Kings DLC is free though despite a broken love story that feels too depressing to care about.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game had some crashes while I used it, however I did not have any of the performance problems reported in the media. The story was disappointing though. They are in Paris during the revolution, and all that they can come up with is some cheesy love story? What about the motivations behind the revolution, for example? They could have gone into more details about the Jacobin Club at least.

I think that the game deserves some points for 3D modelling. Obviously a lot of effort went into re-creating Paris. There were some fun moments, and the fetch quests were not that bad. The controls were awkward at times but generally the combat was fluent and logical. In this sense the game succeeds from a core mechanic point of view.

Now lets start at the beginning, First the story. In the story of ACU we are introduced to Arno, a common a kid who orphaned after his dad died of a murder. He now lives with a family in the upper class. The daughter of the family he lives with is an obvious love interest. The story is not all that interesting, there is no cool plat twist. No character stands out, the only thing it does right is add to the lore of the AC universe. Arno is a pretty flat character. He is charismatic in all the wrong ways. So overall the story is not why you should buy this game. Now the game play, the game-play is greatly refined with a new parkour mechanic allowing to ascend and descend. However I think the descend mechanic needs some work. The parkour is also pretty glitch. While running on rooftops Arno will get stuck jump super far randomly and is generally pretty choppy. The new fighting mechanic is pretty good. It is now more challenging.... However they still throw enemy after enemy after you like in the old games. This is so annoying since combat is harder we cant fight 20 guys at once, however the game doesn't seem to care. Next the AI is pretty, who am I kidding its god awful. In combat the walk around and when they deiced to attack you they do a extremely dumb animation. Its like they growl at you before swinging. And the most annoying thing of all is the guns. The enemies will often just spam using their guns forcing you to get them first, however the controls to doge the gun fire is broken. To dodge a gun shot you have to push the X button however, if you are not near an enemy you cant doge it unless you run behind something. The gun system is horrible they need to redo it. Next lets talk stealth. To put it simply its crap. Mainly due to the enemy placement. The enemies are placed in a way that it is almost impossible to take out anyone without being detected. Unless you use the "phantom blade" which is basically a silenced gun. However you only get like 5 at a time and it costs so much to refill them all. The stealth seems like it was made for a splinter cell game. I say this because without a gun you are screwed. Now lets end this up with the multiplayer. It is odd. It is definitely enjoyable if you get your friends, but without people you now it is not all that fun. The stealth is a lot more enjoyable when you work together but not by much.
    Alright lets end this review.
    Final verdict 5/10
    Positives
    Impressive visuals and world
    New combat
    Decent Parkour
    Negatives
    Bad story
    Clunky gun combat
    Glitchy
    Uneven parkour
    Bad stealth

Only buy this if you are a true AC fan if not it is worth a pass. If you are going to buy it wait for a sale, this game should be priced 15 through 20 bucks.

Missions are boring. It's nearly impossible to play the game stealth. Framerate is terrible. The character "customization" outfits all look the same. The collectibles are way too abundant. The multiplayer is terribly laggy with lots of rubberbanding and invisible enemies. Lastly the combat is tedious and feels like I am trying to poke enemies to death with a sewing needle.

No worries, I then decided I'd just play the game in English. Well tough luck Frenchie, all the NPCs that populate the city are voiced by the same Quebec voice actors as the French version.

I recognize this is a very regional problem that affects just a handful of people, but if they're going for historical accuracy and realism, they should go all in, rather than say 93%.

Ultimately, between actors and micro-transactions, it was hard for me to enjoy this game and I didn't finish all objectives/trophies as I normally would for a game like this one.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Finally picked this game up to try it after reading that Ubisoft had actually done enough patches that the game was mostly playable without running into grotesque looking NPCs or falling through the Earth. The game itself is indeed playable, I finished the whole story but wow was it a lackluster experience. If you're here looking to be immersed in history like we were during every AC game prior, you're going to be severely disappointed. Arno exists during the French Revolution, yes, but he lives completely apart from it. And it's like he's completely oblivious to the fact that a revolution is even occurring. You'll hear things once and awhile, like the storming of the Bastille (you literally are jumping off the fortress when the people are about to come through), and sometimes see things; King Louis got executed (the closest you got to being near history) and you briefly meet Napoleon (probably the best part of the game albeit too short). You won't walk away from this game feeling as though you learned anything about this piece of history, you'll be lucky if you understand who the names of people that are literally just tossed at you or thrown into your codex actually represent. Indeed, half of them aren't even close to what their real-life counterpart was like.

Onto gameplay, you may not run into people with missing faces but you sure are going to get your fill of other glitches. You'll find yourself falling off many roofs that in any other game the character would have been grabbing on to stop themselves from falling, not here, the whole grab ability is nonexistent, I mean you're lucky to properly climb a building in some sort of fluid motion, good luck going down in some sort of climbing fashion. Arno cannot climb into a window fluidly, you will be climbing all around that window trying to hit the trigger when it appears. Some of the co-op challenges can be completed on your own, but most of the 5-star ones need other people to play with you, but good luck finding anyone to do those with. A particular co-op mission in which you finish your army training by having to climb and jump to collect flags, you can drop waist deep into the ground and get stuck. People actually crowded around Arno and stared, as though they were mocking the fact that I had apparently found a quicksand pit. The blood effects are sometimes horrifying. Particularly during story missions after you just killed a couple guards and go to talk to the NPC objective, Arno will turn around his whole face just soaked in dark blood, as though he's a mass murderer. It's a terrifying sight to behold. Indeed, one part was with Elise and Arno said something about their previous escapade not having as much blood, in which he once again was drenched in it.

For the story itself, once you discover that Elise is a Templar, you would think that would play a huge role in the story but it has no gravitas to the story at all. in fact, for the first quarter of the game she says you murdered her father and disappears to god knows where. And when she finally does return, she perfects the line of 'Let's split up.' Every mission the two of you split up and you're once more doing things on your own. If you couldn't figure out how to add meat to the character then why even bother having her? Speaking of having little meat to the character, how about Arno himself? He could've been a fascinating character. The whole Assassin/Templar confliction in regards to his father is murdered by a Templar and his adoptive father is a Templar murdered by a renegade Templar. He's searching for his adoptive father's murderer (which makes him oblivious to the whole French Revolution thing) but it's just like Point A to Point B and it's just shallow. And let's talk about how Arno joined the Assassins, he gets thrown in the Bastille and just happens to meet this guy who's an Assassin and knew Arno's father? And in an undefined amount of time (way too short to be any sort of competent Assassin) after training with a wooden broomstick? you're ready to give your life to the Brotherhood and taking on complicated missions. Also, stare at this wall Arno, look you've got Eagle Vision! (Eagle vision that must now recharge as well) And you know you did your story wrong when upon meeting this guy, Bellec, you instantly know he's gonna turn against you later and you're going to have to kill him. Oh, Arno also joins the Brotherhood by saying he wants revenge for his adoptive father's killer, literally says that's the only reason he's here and later on, the Council says they believe revenge is the only thing on Arno's mind. Uh duh? He straight up told you that? The best part was that Arno was basically just using the Assassin Brotherhood for his own ends.

I could write a book about how disappointing this game was. The worst part was that it could have been great but Ubisoft doesn't care about great games, they just want as much money as fast as possible with little work.

Expand

An excellent and huge game. The positives are emphasized by detailed world that seems more alive now than ever before.

Unity is not a bad game, but it certainly doesn’t feel like it advances the series very much, especially for the first title in the series to be a fully next-gen game.

Bugs really throw Unity under the guillotine. [Jan 2015, p.78]
