It's assassins creed so basically it's the same as every other assassins creed game that's gone before or after. Hand to hand combat is still meh .If you ever wanted to visit London then this is for you.

Syndicate is another game made in haste, by the famous ubisoft. The Game has two playable characters and none of them captivated me enough for me to feel empathy. both are shallow and only do what they are told to do. There is nothing good about this except the setting, at least for me. When walking around gets boring, it´s very unfun to do just about everything. The setting is my favorite in any AC game, I loved to get to be there, a shame it was wasted by this game... and this franchise.

The negatives: there's plenty of story potential that goes untapped, the twins' relationship is hardly covered at all, there is still lots of busy work, some of the missions towards the end get fairly flat, the story doesn't really build to anything memorable and the villain is incredibly amateur (he runs London, yet at no point does he do anything to wrest back control!). A solid 7 - I enjoyed it but there's so much untapped potential in the AC series. Expand

I am a big (and loyal) fan of this franchise - though I am not a fanboy. I do admit that the AC franchise is tired, filled with mistakes, hypeless, not hopeless, though. Ubisoft biggest mistake is to release a game every year. No matter how good they are, people just don't care anymore.

Which is a shame, because, let me tell you: Syndicate is an INCREDIBLE game and a true homage to what the game (and the series) once was: a historical experience, where you have a city as your playground, just like Ezio did, back in the day. There is no **** this time; no multiplayer nonsense, no companion APP. Just you, the city, its characters. And a great story to write as you traverse Victorian London's corners in search for its secrets.

And the additions to the tired formula are also fantastic. First a grappling-gun (like Batman's) that makes climbing (and killing) fast and sweet. And the 2 protagonists, the Frye twins, are a joy to play as. Jacob is a brawler, while Evie is a thinker and this combination of traits results in a lot of great moments, different (ish) gameplay styles and funny banter.

Sidenote: the game is stable, the missions are incredibly well designed and the game is not riddled with bugs, like Unity. To be honest, the ONLY weird thing I noticed - during more than 20 hours playing - was a guy riding an invisible carriage. And that was all.

I loved this game, from start to finish. And it did give me hope that Ubisoft at least is listening to its loyal fanbase. Forget your prejudices, try to forgive Ubi's recent mistakes and play this game!

Assassins Creed Syndicate is the weirdest AC game so far, in that it doesn't feel like an AC game at all. You play twins this time around, idea of twin assassins is interesting but not explored in this game. Whichever character you choose it really make zero difference to anything. It'll force you to the specific character needed, but aside from a few missions, I didn't really notice much difference. It only really means you have to level up yourself, skills and weapons twice.
The idea is Jacob has slightly better for combat, hereas Evie has better stealth skills. However these are some of the last skills you get, so until that point there's no difference. Additionally from about level 7 combat is far easier for both due to the execute and mutilate skills for both, as well as more powerful weapons and better player health. So again aside from evie's invisibility I didn't notice a difference.

The game would've been more coherent with Evie oly, and honestly her abilities outweigh Jacob's.
Speaking of which, it's clear that Evie is modeled after and a reference to Eva Green. Looking at Victoria Atkin (Evie's model) it's clear there's little resemblance, but strong resemblance of Eva, also plot advancements further solidify the link to Evie Green.
I'm unsure why Eva. Perhaps they thought Eva was English (she's French). So it seems an odd actress to choose.

Unlike other assassins creed games, the present-day/Asbergo is mostly ignored and tacked-on. Aside from a very brief mention of it at the start, a single moment where you're pulled out for about 60 seconds, and a very awkward ending, you forget it even exists. The only dna/timeline-related plot going on is separate from Evie and Jacob, which I think is bad design.

One big change this time around is that enemies now have levels - signified by the floating numbers on them. This means you need to level up your weapons and character to have a hope in hell of surviving combat. This feels like the only reason to bother roaming the city. If you don't level up you will die because they are very difficult to beat, especially in groups.

AC: Syndicate has much more of a focus on "leveling up" and the arbritrary reason to "level up" is enemies all have levels, despite all the characters looking identical.
It's very difficult to defeat (or survive) enemies due to how hard combat is now.
This is much more tedious, not only is it a lot harder and much faster paced. But as enemies have levels, you must level up fast to have any chance of taking on a group.
You can no longer just attack and counter with the traditionally large counter windows, but now combat has combos, you must also execute finishers with triangle, and also counter gunfire with triangle all whilst breaking defenses with x in a much more frequent basis than previous games. Timing windows for counters are incredibly low, by default almost non-existent, so upgrading the perk for a larger windows is a must. Plus health is very low in AC, it takes a lot of leveling up to get health to a bearable level.

This makes the game very grindy, you have to grind up the level to have any chance of winning fights in crowds, and without the darts and a de-emphasis on stealth, it means brawling is very important in this game (hence the changes in mechanics).

Speaking of grindy, Syndicate has an E-store to buy game currency or resources with helix credits, which are found with a lot of grinding, or bought with real currency. the in-game menus even equate credits to how many hours of grinding you'll save. This made me want to quit playing more than any Assassins Creed game I've played.

Missions aren't fun: in AD:S I found no missions actually fun, there's a ton of investigation type missions and they're far less enjoyable than before. it seems ubisoft decided to make investigations a big part of syndicate due ad they're worse than in Unity. Another common mission type is "kidnapping" enemies. Which is very dull. Find an enemy in a stronghold, then grab them and run back to a point with them. You can throw them in a carriage to transport them faster. Either way you'll be fighting enemies or crashing enemy carriages. It gets old quick.

I'm glad Syndicate brought back the rope launcher/zipline tool, which is the first time since Revelations. Initially I thought this was a cheap idea copy but as London rooftops vary in height so much, I ended up using a lot, so appreciated its inclusion.

Death sequences are more jarring now.
Subtitles are tiny! With no option to change size. Music bland.

Game completely froze and locked up many times. Also due to an unfixed bug I cannnot complete the vault. There's many reports of it online.

I had low hopes due to how poorly the story was told throughout but the ending is just shockingly terrible. Story-wise and execution-wise.

However, this is an Ubisoft game so the map is absolutely packed with pointless collectables and boring side quests. I know you don't have to do them but I'm something of a completionist and also you need to do a certain amount to level up enough to be competitive.

If Assassin's Creed Syndicate was more focused with a smaller map and less distractions this would have been a very good game. instead you spend 90% of your time clearing the map of random things and when you come back to the story you've forgotten who you're helping and why. Less is more Ubisoft!

The game looks amazing probably the best looking game of the year i`m running it totally maxed out everything on Ultra and top setting with 2x 980ti its barley getting 60fps at 1440p but with Gsync its runs very smoothly.

The biggest surprise for me is the combat and stealth actually really work well this time and the grappling hook makes the game so much more fluid and higher pace. Its still what you`d expect for a AC game but its the best one yet and i only planned to take a quick look at the game as i`m in the middle of Fallout 4 and ended up playing it for 18 hours in the last 2 days >.< ive never done that with a AC game before.

Its a great come back for AC and Ubisoft are back on form I hope there`s a ton of DLC cause this is by far the best open world city they have ever made the sound graphics and game-play are all not notch.

Jacob and Evie Frye are two of the most compeling assassin's the series have seen in a while. Gameplay wise, the game hasn`t envolved enough, only this time has been polished to a very solid state. I did not came across any bug or crash during my 60 hours of gameplay, and the framerate kept stable during 95% of my gaming sessions, and even when it dipped, it was barely noticeable.

Story is good, but nothing extraordinary, but this time it was presented on a more lighthearted way, and adding to that the music of Austin Wintory (Composser for Journey) surely gave this game a personality of its own, and sticks out among the series.

All being said, if you like Assassin's Creed, chances are you're going to like this game. But if you don't, i don`t see many things here that would make you think otherwise. But judging the game as its own separate entity, its good, entertaining, and beautiful to look at.

In a game where parkour around the rooftop is a major component of the gameplay, I think both new features feels out of place. Using the zip line and the carriage is the fastest way to move around London. Which is unfortunate because the parkour in this game is the best of all AC games. This game is a huge disappointment for me. The original Assassin Creed is one of my favorite game, because back in 2007 the game was innovative. Huge open world map with the ability to climb everywhere was new in the gaming world. However, as the years passed the same game is released every year without any major improvements. I had to force myself to finish it in the end but say it was an overall still pleasant experience. The Assassins Creed games share an overall story arc but you do not need to know the previous games. Basically before mankind a much more advanced civilization existed. Their technological abilities were so advances that some look like magic. Mankind was created as servant race but rebelled before the ancient society crumbled. There are however many relics existing which would grant imaginable powers to those who find them. Those pulled the attention of groups on them and there is a hidden conflict between the Assassins and Templars since centuries. Both sides have their merits in my opinion and while I lean more towards the Assassins it is more than simply black and white. The main focus is a technology that lets you relive ancestors experience like you were actually there. Here you use that to follow the adventures of the Assassin twins Jacob and Elvie Frye in 1868 on their journey to break the Templar's control of London and to stop their master plan. It is an uphill battle as you start as small group against overwhelming numbers and resources. I actually truly enjoyed the story and different layers of it. Sadly the side actives have weaker stories and become stale in the end. The gameplay is solid stealth action. You infiltrate, eliminate and gain influence to overpower your rivals. This is done via many missions. Those were good and challenging. You can unlock new items and other helpful things as you progress. There are a lot of side activities and exploration but like I said those become repetitive sooner or later. To give you a bit perspective: I am more the “Do all available side quest before advancing the main story” guy so it could be a better experience if you stick more to the main story. Also I like the characters. You can choose between Jacob and Elvie and both won me over as I was invested in them. The antagonist Crawford Starrick is a magnificent villain I love to hate. As per series standard you also encounter many famous people. Like Charles Dickens, Charles Darwin or Florence Nightingale to name a few. The characters and voice actors are a strength a get my praise. Graphically the game was really good too. I like the London as setting and it feels authentic for a non historian like me. I enjoyed the exploration of the interesting city. Overall it is a bit mixed. The game is enjoyable but gets repetitive faster than I expected. Other open world game to more in this regard. I think a 7/10 is fair and if you don't agree with my negatives it could be an 8-9/10 for you. Expand

I've been a huge fan of the Assassin's Creed franchise since the first game. All games were going pretty good until the Assassin's Creed 3, which I thought had a really great idea, but I couldn't help but hate the main protagonist, Conner. He was so whiny and it just wasn't good. Black Flag was totally different and I really enjoyed it. Had a lot of fun with the story. It seemed really good and it graphically, it looked really good. But just didn't meet my expectations. Ubisoft has gone downhill lately, like, a lot. They keep rushing games and they suck. I was very hesitant to buy Syndicate. I figured I'd be done with the franchise, but I watched the reviews closely and I caved. I bought it and I'm honestly satisfied. In some ways, they could've done a lot better, but I've had so much fun with the game that it gives me hope. Its a lot better than Unity and as far as I know, Ubisoft is waiting another year for the release of the new Assassin's Creed game. Maybe they'll do something right, but so far, Ubisoft has been giving me hope with their recent releases. Rainbow Six, Syndicate, The Division, have all been enjoyable so far. Don't **** it up, boys! Assassin's Creed Syndicate more than compensates for the blunder that was Assassin's Creed Unity. In fact I didn't play Unity at all because the reviews were so dissuading. Most of the game mechanics within Syndicate are ultimately engaging and I like the fact that you can freely swap between Evie and Jacob anytime you like.

Whilst the mission structure is more than adequate, the story suffers a little due to a plot decision midway through and the final boss fight is poorly designed.

Overall, Syndicate redeems the franchise after it's predecessor's mistakes and has me eager for the next Assassin's Creed game.

Recomendo demais.

I'm enjoying this game immensely. Somewhere since AC4(?), they lost the godlike counter button and combat became much better for the challenge it gives. Stealth is also much more challenging at least until you overcome the learning curve. Graphics are a step up from AC4 I think. All in all a better than average installment.

It's a fun game, but it's basically more of the same from the AC franchise. The main story isn't really engaging at all, although the side missions are a bit more flushed out than they have been in previous installments. If you like the AC franchise, you will likely get entertainment value out of this, but it certainly won't make you fall in love with it.

The game is certainly better than Unity, as in it has less glitches and bugs, but not much else. The game starts out fun and then progressively become tedious and a chore to finish.

London is an impressive setting bustling with people making loud noises and different activities making it feel alive, but whether you prefer this to Paris is up to you. Paris was better, in my opinion.

London is an impressive setting bustling with people making loud noises and different activities making it feel alive, but whether you prefer this to Paris is up to you. Paris was better, in my opinion. However, my experience in London was ruined by the problematic parkour, the boring side-activities that are very repetitive and most fill no purpose other then improving your characters,

The story is ok, better then Unity's but not by much. It's ultimately cliche and never really evolves beyond taking London from the Templars. You play as Evie and Jacob Frye, twins, brother and sister; I was very disappointed at the very little difference between the two of them in terms of combat, skills and animations. Seeing as Jacob is more of a brawler, I was expecting his skills to be more focused on fighting, while Evie's to be more focused on stealth, but they both have the exact same skills, just separately.

As for their characters, they are fine; certainly better than the main characters from Unity. Jacob is more of a punk though not in a fun kind of way, more in a irritating kind of way; Evie is the more interesting of the two, though it also seems like they try too hard to make her seem 'cool'. The banter between them can range from entertaining to making your eyes roll; the dialog in Syndicate is inconsistant, despite the fact that they are well voice acted. However, you never really grow to care about them like you did with previous protagonists like Ezio, Edward and Shay. The rest of the characters in the game are forgettable, with a cliche psyhopatic villain that never feels like he pushes the two main protagonists to their limits.

The combat is bad, clearly derived from the Arkham series but poorly made; it's basically mashing a bottom to attack, one to counter, and one to break defense, with none of the variation combos like in the Arkham games. Not to mention that animations for the characters are horrible and it feels like they don't hold any weight. You have a choice between three different weapons which pretty much end up feeling the same. Although I will admit that the leveling up in the game is quite satisfying.

The present returns though it makes me wonder why; it adds nothing to the AC lore and is merely there to tell you to 'keep playing'. It's as if the developers knew that the game was going to be average and thought to remind you that you need to make the most out of the value of your purchase. It makes me wonder why do they even bother to include it anymore.

Overall, Ubisoft's annual release is starting to take its toll on the series. Very little innovation, glitches and bugs, repetitive and boring side-missions, weak main missions, bad combat, uninteresting characters all amounted to make my experience in London quite shallow, despite it's beauty from a graphical point of view.

I love the sights and setting, the sounds and atmosphere - it's all incredible. The gameplay is - mostly - smooth. The story goes along quickly, helped by the two protagonists chemistry together - and side quests with the likes of Charles Darwin. Voice acting and writing are top-notch.

The game at first is hard to really get into but one you've play a few missions and have familiarised yourself with the new equipment and other characters it becomes really interesting and fun to play. Although the game could of had a more exciting intro it does introduce the characters well with their particular skills; Jacob specialising in more hand to hand combat while Evie is more into stealth and is able to traverse the level without getting noticed much. Although we don't have as many weapons as Unity the combat and weapons are still really fun to use. The city of London has many different Characters and is really diverse, seperating the poor from the rich and the beautiful views from the top of the city. I would highly recommend this game to players who really want to immerse themselves in a good story and fun gameplay. Expand

The main characters are not bad at all, but the only thing Syndicate has better than Unity is the shining buildings and the bigger map, everything else is the same or even worse... And the plot... God the plot... Helping the queen? I thought it was the other way around, but no... the same "killing templars" plot, at least they could have added the "templars are not that bad" concept that Unity incorporated and that made Rogue my favorite game after AC II... but no, not even that...
I just give this a 5 because the gameplay is "funny" (even when the "God of War" smashing mechanism), but not better than the gameplay of Unity....

My other vice is that there's nothing really new in terms of missions. It's the same formula that's been done a number of times already in prior AC titles and the story is unfortunately not engaging at all.

It captures the bustling industrial era atmosphere well, and with a number of side quests and items to collect for crafting there's definitely a lot of content, unfortunately it just feels repetitive.

If you're a die hard AC fan, you will enjoy the game. As it does what the previous AC games have and does it well. But if you're looking for something compelling or novel, Syndicate isn't it. The title is need of a breath of fresh air.

The game is more polished, stable and solid than it's predecessor and features a cast of like-able, charismatic characters. The city of London is nicely designed too. It's not as detailed as the streets of Paris and is lacking in interiors, but it is still a commendable effort from the team. The return of a dynamic day and night system is another pleasure to have in this game, which drastically improves the atmosphere of London.

But on the gameplay side of things is where things get a bit shaky. The series is still struggling to reinvent itself. Combat, while faster and more responsive, is still the same ol' "mash the attack button, while you get barely any positive feedback from your attacks" style combat. Mission structures and designs are the same. The only thing that is different is the grappling hook. It boosts the traveling speed quite a bit a la Batman, but I cannot help to feel that it goes against the core principles of the AC parkour gameplay, which (the Parkour) still needs a level of polish that's has been missing since Black Flag.

And the story, well...... it's Assassin's Creed. The interactions between the characters, both fictional and non-fictional, is a lot more interesting than the "plot". It's kind of there, but it lacks the power to keep the players engaged and things just happen because they have to.

Don't get me wrong, Assassin's Creed Syndicate is still a fun game to mess around with that will definitely give you some hours of fun. But I just cannot shake the "been there, done that" feeling I had when playing this game.

I attempted to play the original game and then another one on the Sony PSP but this was the first start to finish one I have played. To summarize the overall experience "Pretty ****ing Awesome". This game had a lot of positives I enjoyed running through the streets and assassinating all the blighters and police officers I saw in the street. I appreciated the open world Arkham Knight type world. The collectable items were not forced on you like the Riddler trophies in Arkham Knight. The individual memories / quests from notable historical figures was a great addition. Helping out Winston Churchill in WWI, Protecting Karl Marx during a protest, and helping Darwin go ghost hunting was all a lot of fun. The one downfall to the games story telling is the Main Story / Sequences. This is probably where I lack since I never played the other games in the series. So it was hard for me to understand what was going on. They also never really truly explained what was going on in present time vs the memory sequences. You get a quick brief interaction in the present in the beginning of the game. Then in the middle you get another cut scene. Then finally at the end of the game after the final battle you get another glimpse at what's going on in present time. But this never gets fully explained. So if you're new to the series like I am you are sort of at a loss of what is going on. This is where the game fell short for me. I was just never captivated by the main story since I had no connection nor did I have any idea what I was looking for in the main story. Still even with lack of story telling for a new comer to the series the game was a blast. The one draw back that most of these open games seem to struggle with and Batman Arkham Knight did too is the repetitive nature of the side missions. Conquering territories was a very mundane but fun tasks. Most missions have you either saving children from labor, kidnapping some one, and or killing a bunch of blighters. There is a big lack of variety in this mission ops. The good thing is if you play the game like I do you can mix in conquering neighborhoods with finding all the games collectibles. What did cause met a little bit a grief is I was really looking to get the coveted PS4 Platinum trophy in this game and did a pretty good job of getting close until I realized the only 2 trophies left were the Platinum and destroying 5000 objects while driving a carriage. Now if this was on the Xbox One it would not have been a big issue for me since they feature achievement tracking and you can see how much you have left. Most of the games trophies aren't bad at all but this one is truly a punch in the you know what. Though a tracking system would really be helpful. Now I understand that this is more of a PS4 issue than a Syndicate issue but nothing stops UBISoft from releasing an patch that will have a stat tracker similar to the Uncharted and MGS:TPP where you can see how close or far you are. So while the game has its flaws a lot of the major issues I had were more user / OCD related. This is a great game to pick up whether your a fan of the series or not and just run around and have fun.

I loved the rope launcher and how you can play as both evie and Jacob, but their skill trees are much too similar
I also think that the crafting system did not really fit in the game and that there was definitely limited customization and I would have like it if the customization was the same as unity
I also loved riding the carriages and the new combat
The awesome: open world historical people side missions, rope launcher, story, characters, carriage riding, and gang
    The Average: repetitive side missions
The bad: similar skill tree with evie and Jacob, crafting, lack of customization

As for the story-telling, Assassin Creed Syndicate is another pinnacle of perfectly executed cut scenes and voice acting. The writing and the execution are simply phenomenal, no other way to put it. Frankly, the game is so immersive and addictive, I wouldn’t even mind replaying it from scratch.
You’ll most likely love this game whether you’re a fan of the franchise or not. I’ll go ahead and call it ‘the second true Ubisoft masterpiece after Far Cry 3’. Being my first Assassin Creed experience, having finished it, I’m ready now to play just any title of the series, eyeing ‘Origins’ for next.
Assassin Creed Syndicate could’ve easily been the Game Of The Year, or least get a ‘Must-Play’, very surprised it didn’t. It’s not just one of the best games I’ve ever played, not just one of the most beautiful games, but one I still play even after getting the platinum trophy.

One of the most underrated games of the year. It brings the franchjse back to life. A really enjoyable game with amazing visuals and great gameplay. The story could've been better but it's decent even though the ending was just out of place.Overall it's a great game. Ubisoft might just have gained my trust.

It's smooth, the story is good, the characters are good (Frye Twins), you care actually about what you are doing in the game and every side missions seem to get you somewhere. I love the hook that you can travel between buildings, it doesn't require you to climb a building, having to jump down and climb another one and so forth. A lot has been improved. Although I am of the few that loved the present day story, I do wish that Ubisoft would go back to that. I love reading the manuscripts and listen to the audio logs that you can unlock through helix fragments, it gives you a deeper story to the past titles.

It is definitely a title I can finally feel like I am not being screwed over by Ubisoft, it feels like AC went back, or at least came a good way, to the spirit and the magic that I used to love with AC.

Now that I think of it, this game is very similar to Batman Arkham series which might be why I like it so much. HUGE open world map. Lots to do and explore. Tons of collectibles. The graphics are spectacular. The gameplay is typical AC - sometimes your character doesn't go exactly where you want, but it's not too bad. The story is good and the side missions are relevant to the main mission. Overall, AC Syndicate is a really good game.

    + Interesting story and characters
+ Huge world to explore providing many hours of gameplay

On the other hand, while mechanics are not bad, battles are just button mashing (and there are very few types of enemies as well), and missions are extremely repetitive.

The best thing about this game is the story. The chemistry between the characters is organic and doesn't feel forced like it did in previous games. The story is a bit generic but the gameplay is familiar yet polished with new mechanics in play. The game is short but sweet.
Very nice to see another female protagonist in an AC game.

Jacob and Evie are fully realized characters with a story that makes you grow genuinely attached to them and effort towards bettering their outcome. The art, direction, writing, voice acting, and cinematography, as well as the character-specific choreographed fight styles entices you to play more. The rope launcher pretty much fixes parkour, as does the "parkour down" ability. The missions are carefully selected and build to important assassinations, as they should. The modern day is a bit disjointed and lacking, but it actually moves the meta-plot football along if you have been following that portion of the story. They have set the stage for what could be a very interesting modern day franchise title in coming years.

The World War I rift is gorgeous and inventive, and makes excellent use of game mechanics by adding in touches of "Rogue" game play, and the other side activities such as "Child Liberation" and "Investigations" are fun and interesting. Fighting is still quite simple, but that's not really what this game is about. If you play the game with the understanding that the "Optional Objectives" are the "correct" way to complete a mission, you will have a blast. Stated another way: Many situations lend to cheesing by abusing game mechanics or fighting through masses of enemies, but if you play as if you were an assassin who is not Neo from the Matrix, you will have a lot more fun.

The story of this era of London is told through more than just the missions, so it is key to read. Evie's notebook, the animus database, and even the NPC chatter in the streets all tell a more complex and 3-dimensional story than if you were to simply play through as quickly as possible.

I have to place this title in a tie with Assassins Creed Black Flag/Rogue for gameplay, and place it as Number One for telling a more nuanced and subtle story of a sibling relationship set at a time when the world was changing faster than anyone could quite grasp.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This was the first AC game I truly enjoyed and actually finished. The gameplay was fun, albeit a bit repetitive the more you played. Once you levelled up enough it also became quite easy, again still fun.
Unlike AC Unity, I encountered no issues whatsoever with Syndicate.

You play as two characters, a brother and sister who are both equally enjoyable to play as, even though the sister has a cool chameleon ability you can eventually get.

My biggest gripe comes with working with Karl Marx, in particular the mission "protect Marx". I failed it the first few times I tried it, simply because I sat by and watched him be killed. As a staunch anti-marxist and anti-communist I struggled with the thought of saving him.

Since I picked this up on sale for $30CDN with all the DLCs and extras I believe it is well worth the money. I look forward to playing the DLCs soon.

This entry into the long running assassin's creed series adds nothing new and several of its gameplay features and mechanics are starting to show their age. I've played every game to date apart from rogue but found this one a bit of a chore. I'll start with the cons.

    Cons -

    1. The controls are quite temperamental, in particular the climbing mechanics. You will at several points find yourself climbing the wrong wall, moving the wrong way or struggling to move at all. This is something that's always been a problem though throughout the series.
    2. The controls have been altered slightly, you need to hold r2 and O when you want to move forward and down and r2 and X when you want to move forward and up. This took quite a lot of getting used to.
    3. Graphically this game seems to be a step down. Unity blew me away with its visuals but this game is less detailed and environments lack character.
    4. The city is London this time and that means more grey skys, brown buildings and lots of chimneys. Personally the setting doesn't compare to Paris or The Caribbean.
    5. The new grappling hook isn't user friendly. It's not clear where and when it can be activated. It's also very slow. Developers have spaced buildings further apart and made them less easy to climb as well so you're forced to rely on it.
    6. Missions require much less stealth this time around. Unity was more required a greater deal of thought in its missions in my opinion.
    7. The story is quite dull, this is particularly true of the villain who just tries very hard to come across as psychotic.
    8. The combat isn't aging well. The counters, break defenses and repetitive attack animations make it feel quite dull. Other games like Batman and Shadow of Mordor are simply much better at climbing, combat, grappling and level design.
    9. It can be buggy at times. Some bugs prevented the completion of missions which was very annoying.
    10. The load times are crazy long. This make dieing incredibly frustrating.

    Pros +

    1. It's quite fun and there's a lot of content
    2. There's almost zero eavesdropping missions this time which is nice.
    3. The story is dull but the good thing is that the modern day storyline which has been consistently awful is very much in the background this time.
    4. The introduction of carriages is quite fun. Ramming others off the road and zipping around the city is a nice touch.
    5. The skill tree and ability to develop two characters in different areas (strength or stealth) worked well.

So, overall it's not a bad game and i enjoyed it but there are better games. The series really needs to improve its gameplay because it is falling behind. It's worth playing but only if you can get it really cheap (like 10 dollars) or don't have anything else to play.

Another Assassin’s Creed game that you can either buy or ignore sight unseen depending on whether you grew tired of the old formula. Some innovations (e.g. the grappling hook) are a welcome addition, some (like two playable characters and their development system) feel forced and not really thought through.
