Yes it is Ubisoft game and yes it games repetitive and boring sometimes. But ignoring the fact that it's an AC game, it deserves a 8/10.

What do you want more from an open world game? It’s one of the great game who has gorgeous graphic and amazing fighting physics. Good job, Ubi!

Playing DLC I’ve finally can say: This is very huge project. I’ve spend tones of hours and still every time got new content, new armour, new skills... Ubisoft done well with their Witcher like RPG! Bravo!

P.S.: All the transactions are not necessary! Ive finished main story without any spendings. So then I decided to buy DLCs and some skins, cause game deserves it!

The quests and narrative are no where near as deep as anything you’d find in the Witcher 3, but aside from that it’s entertained me for a solid 100+ hours. Combat is fun, the world and weapons are great and the cult and mercenary mechanics are fun also - best AC game I’ve played - I prefer this direction which Ubisoft are going in.

One of the biggest features was the gender of the Canon Protagonist (As the opposite could also be chosen). Being female makes a headline in an ever changing landscape in games, while this is nothing new for this franchise, it has certainly cemented the modern standards of the genre. Gender besides though Odyssey has lived up to my expectation is many other ways.

The vast open world and well detailed environments, have shone as its core features. Scaling the rock faces of forested cliff sides or that of the stone embodiment of Poseidon really stuck to the Assassin Creed roots. Though with the options of horseback and ship sailing, traversal felt better to combat yourself, rather than fast travel.

Odyssey is very much an improvement over Origins, executing more in depth RPG options both in dialogue and actions. Though this was much a positive, to me the RPG influences as of late are creating a different sort of game. I enjoy RPG’s and while this is not native to the genre in terms of a personal custom character, it really carries that pride. However, from the hoarding of gear and levelling mechanics, to RPG branching story arcs, the core of what Assassins Creed was, has worn away.

In conclusion then, Odyssey excels as a new addition to the franchise. It capitalises on all the things Origins had, and even pushes the boat out further. Though while it excels in what is has achieved, this new form of Assassins Creed will not carry the same effect as I think older instalments once did.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Played around 200 hours, this game is *** awesome !! People complaining about microtransactions saying that they're necessary are just really bad, they are by no mean necessary, I cleared the missions and got the best gear and had to put the game on the highest difficulty for it to be challenging.
I heard some comments about how it's hard to be stealthy ... are you fu*** kidding me!!? I cleared all forts in the game in stealth, you have to learn the game mechanics and how to approach your stealth game for it to be effective and not having to fight. Maybe because i played almost all AC games before i was really good at it, but what i'm saying is the game offers a perfect approach for stealth style.
And all the mythic stuff it has the the DLC, it's amazing, fighting the Minotaur was fun, the cyclops, Medusa, all of these were amazing. I don't understand the hate or the low score. THE ONLY thing i can think off is the mythical part of this entry on the franchise, and people only wanted normal AC stuff, and to that i say fu** you, the best part about the game was the historical places it took us to, and this entry did that PERFECTLY. So hats off to Ubisoft, i'll definitely play Valhalla and then go back and play Origins cuz i have not.

    a) The story is engaging and well presented
    b) The graphics are spectacular (especially the light effects, the sea, etc...)

    a) The story is engaging and well presented
    b) The graphics are spectacular (especially the light effects, the sea, etc...)
    c) There is a lot of content and there is important depth in the open world
    d) The naval battles are back (for those who miss Black Flag :))
    e) The gameplay is fun most of the time

There are some reasons why I think the reviews are around 6,5/10 and from my understanding, I see that a lot of players put 0/10 because of the microtransactions, the leveling system or the fact it doesn't seem as a traditional AC game.

However, the truth is that the microtransactions are not at all mandatory. We must consider side quests as main quests here...In fact, side quests give us reasons to explore the world, discover new areas, etc...

In my 86 hours playthrough, I've never been underleveled and I finished the main story at level 49. I plan to continue until level 52 or so (still want to complete a few quests...). Here are a few recommendations to enjoy your playthrough:

    1. You need to explore the world and do side quests.
2 Don't do the random generated quests on boards or the time limited ones. There are enough quests with the yellow mark to level up appropriately
    3. Play on normal difficulty. I would consider possibly hard for rpg fans but avoid at all cost Nighmare because enemies are really really spungy
    4. If you have an assassin build, try to be 1 or 2 levels above your enemies. I t will help you to play more stealthy. If you have the same level or if you're a bit underleveled, the risk is that you won't eliminate totally your target with a stealth attack
    5. Don't play this game right after Origins, The Witcher 3 or Zelda breath of the Wild. It's a little bit too similar, so you will best enjoy this game after completing other type of games (I played Concrete Genie, Bioshock Infinite, Bloodborne and Yakuza 3 before AC Odyssey)

Gameplay, graphics, and other aspects are almost the same as in Origins.

Yes, the Odyssey hasn't a lot of changes but it's a big, very big game. Many resources have been invested to create that game and it's not ok to blame the game because it's big and took plenty of resources.

It's a good single-player game you could spend more than 100 hours on it. I've beat the main story in about 40 hours but am still playing it because of DLC and some side quests – I want to know who is the main cultist.

So kindly recommend to all who likes single player 3rd person action/adventure games.

UPDATE: I spend almost 100h for main story + 2 DLC + platinum trophy.

Odyssey builds further upon everything that origins did right about makes it better. Other than a few minor hiccups that are to be expected of a assassins creed game. This game went well above my expectations. I loved origins. But for some reason decided to skip out on odyssey, I had no rime or reason to not want to play it but for some reason, I just decided not too, but the Ubisoft sale was on PS4 and I got the gold edition for $40, and boy have I been missing out. I will list to you the pros of this game for me and then the cons.

Pros- The game world is HUGE, absolutely **** massive, and the amount of things to do in it are ridiculously varied. Quests everywhere, Merc’s Hunting you down, forts to clear out and loot, cultists to identify and kill, naval battles to be had, conquest battles (which are like mini war zone areas) choosing to fight for Athens or Sparta, upgrading your spear, your ship, your armor and everything in between. Wacky side quests, romance, and everything in between that. The armor/weapon system in this game takes it the diablo way allowing you to transmogify any armor or weapon style that’s youve found before and boy is there ALOT of Styles you can mix and match. The new addition to add in “superpower”esk abilities is also great fun. The classic spartan kick that can send enemies FLYING and is ridiculously satisfying, summoning a ring of chaos that’s basically a whirlwind that sucks up and pushes enemies away from you. There are tons and tons of different skills to mix and match to fit your play style and you can have 8 equipped (12 if you count the archer abilities). The world is pretty god damn good looking it’s hard not to be impressed every time you synchronize a view point. Combat is fast and fluid and just challenging enough to keep you on your toes. Also each quest you do, almost anything you do will tell you what the rewards are for that specific mission/side mission/merc/cultist so you always know what you are getting. Naval battles are few and far apart but anytime you feel like you miss the high sea you can hunt down pirate ships, board them kill everyone and steal their treasure...or if you’re feeling merciful you can knock out almost any enemy in the game and hire them to be a lieutenant aboard your ship. Almost every time I do a mission I find something better than what I had before, you get a sense of always improving, always moving forward not once have I felt like I was stuck because of my gear or felt I was ill equipped, if you feel that way and some how DONT get any new gear from playing the game. Black smiths in the game will level up your weapons and armor to your current level so if you found a level 11 sword and find yourself at level 18 now and for some reason can’t find anything new and better. Head on over to a blacksmith to bring up your 213 damage sword to a 534 damage sword....for a few dracmae of course.

Cons- the biggest complaint i have is the facial animations...rather just when they speak it can go from being ALRIGHT, to just god damn awful, I don’t know if Ubisoft heard of facial scan technology or not but I think it’s about time they invest in it. Another thing involving animation is the whole...weapons during a “kill cam” type situation where you execute someone or whatever is still kinda... ok, it really feels like your sword is going through a hollow enemy or something... it’s just not THAT satisfying. Don’t get me wrong it is better than what it used to be but if they Invested in some really solid decapitation style animations like the Witcher 3 did...this game would probably too 5 RPG games I’ve ever played. Moving on... for some strange reason if I get into a fight in a city or small village and I’m fighting guards or a merc, the citizens, the dogs the cows the cats and everything in between will also try and kill me for whatever reason? I’ve had a fight with a merc in a small town and the chicken across the road decided to jump in on the fight and try to kill me for whatever reason.

Which brings me to my final point about all the fools complaining about microtrans, grow up. I have not spent a PENNY in the store and am getting along just fine. There are ALWAYS thing to do at your current level and all of them varied, you don’t need the XP booster or anything like that. If anything right now, Im a level or 2 OVER the recommended for the story missions. They don’t force you to buy anything. It is on the main menu of the game but unless you have the attention span of a squirrel or have the resolve of a heroin addict you can go through the game without opening that menu once. And either way all those items are obtainable IN GAME you don’t have to spend a penny to get the items you see in that store in the game. Of course they are more challenging to get but they made it fun by making you participate in daily and weekly quests.

Before this entry in the franchise, I had only played Assassin's Creed II, and found myself sadly bored, wondering why I didn't click with a game that had received so much praise from others who had played the game. But Odyssey, with its massive open world, was what I personally wanted from an Assassin's Creed game.

Odyssey is not necessarily perfect, and to some extent, I tend to agree with much of the criticisms levelled at the game. Its open world feels a bit bloated at times, and its combat is good, though not necessarily excellent. However, I felt that while these things did drag down the overall experience significantly, the game still shone in many areas. It has a solid story, and the gear system is fairly good as well. What elevates all these average aspects is the sheer volume of content available to players. And while individual players' mileage may vary, I truly did enjoy my time with the game.

Odyssey might alienate former fans of the franchise, but I personally found myself greatly enjoying the formula that was first introduced in Origins and refined here. I would recommend the game to any fan of open-world action RPGs, with the caveat that it may not reach the highs of other games within the genre.

    JUGABILIDAD:

I did give Black Flag a chance on the PS3 but it didn’t stick with me for some reason, and since then I haven’t touched an Assassin’s Creed game until now, after hearing a lot of good stuff about Odyssey. People seem to recommend it based on its RPG elements, as well as its beautifully crafted world and countless hours of playtime.

I believe I’m somewhere midway through the story, I haven’t been prompted to visit all islands yet and I tend to let the story tell me where to go, and I’ve probably spent 80 hours or so playing. There is A LOT of content and optional side quests and I’ve only recently begun to focus mainly on the story because for a while I almost burnt myself out doing quests that (originally unbeknownst to me) get refreshed continually. My OCD prevents me from leaving ?-marks untouched on the map and I guess I’ll just have to live with the fact that there are markers for optional quests cluttering my map, and those markers will just never go away.

If you play this game, you will do yourself a big favor by ignoring the timeglass quests which don’t serve any purpose besides padding your XP. They don’t make any sense either and they’re all the same: ”Bandits come here and destroy our crops, please help, we only want peace” (spoken by a peaceful looking old woman), ”Oh, so you want me to gut all the bandits?” ”Yes,” the peaceful lady goes, ”all of them must DIE.” and you just sit there wondering what’s going on. Anyway.

I do have a problem with this sort of wide-open narrative because it feels disjointed and I sometimes wish I could just do the main story and be happy but at the same time I feel the urge to explore everything the world has to offer. The world is beautifully crafted but can feel quite hollow since a lot of the quests are the same and the world just feels like a static scenery that you run back and forth through.

I enjoy the RPG elements and the ability to upgrade weapons and change their appearance is great, because if you find a weapon that has good perks you can always upgrade its overall damage, making them accurate for your level. I hated finding weapons with great stats in The Witcher 3 only for them to be quite useless after I’d gained two levels or so. Also, you can change the appearance of your gear so you won’t have to deal with a dramatic climax being ruined because your character is dressed in a tuxedo with combat boots, a beenie and black/golden Elvis glasses (looking at you, CP2077 - it actually had me laughing through the climactic ending because, well, it’s just impossible to take someone serious when they look like they’ve literally fallen unconscious and gotten dressed up by 3-year olds at a flee market). Anyway.

I don’t really have anything bad to say about the graphics and animation - overall it looks great in my opinion, and it plays great and feels fluid like it should. It’s not GoW, but it’s what I’d expect from an Assassin’s Creed game. The combat does become a bit repetitive and after a while fights become too easy, but luckily there are mercenaries with certain abilities/perks who might still present a challenge.

Kassandra is a likeable character and I really like her voice-acting. The supporting cast is mostly just good but nothing stellar apart from a few exceptions. Being a history buff with an interest in ancient Greek philosophy helps to make the story interesting.

Like others have said, it feels more like a ”spartan warrior”-story than a ”templar vs assassin”-story, but the precursors of the templars and assassins are still there waiting to be uncovered. I would’ve liked a larger focus on modern day/animus and the whole conspiracy-aspect of AC though.

Microtransactions are there, yes, but they can easily be ignored.

Great music. Quite interesting character arc/development, Kassandra is likeable, the world is huge but ultimately feels quite hollow (though beautiful)…

At this point though I sort of just want to get on with the story. The game is like watching a 5-hour movie, you can’t help but feel like it would’ve been better if it was a bit more densely packed and effective in its execution. The grand scale instead, at least to me, lessens the impact that I believe the story could have had had it been shorter/denser.

The beginning of the game is not much fun and a bit grindy but after about 8 hours, it is so much fun! The story is not awesome but decent and unique how they did the brother-sister thing. Naval combat, exploration, killing mercenaries, fighting in the arena; were some of my favorite things to do. The animus interactions suck but luckily they aren't a bunch.

There is plenty in the form of customizing and even creating different builds with armor attributes and skills you can choose to level up. A lot to pursue like killing cultists to uncover their leader, the main story quest, tons of great side quests with dialogue decisions that determine the outcome of the stories. Discovering ancient Greece is great, the environments are interesting and look great. I found myself really interested in the story and all the different characters. The things that brought this game down a bit for me is the loss of it feeling like an Assassin game, I just felt like a Greek soldier really, if I’m not running around on rooftops with my hood up and hidden blades it just doesn’t feel the same. There is also a lot of needless microtransactions and level gating that annoyed me more than anything else. There is no real reward or incentive for sneaking around while you can’t even assassinate people with one hit most of the time. Also, the sheer size of the game started feeling too much when I finished off the number 1 ranked bounty hunter (which took a while to do) a whole new list of higher ranking bounty hunters popped up, I finally succumbed and said yeah this game is a little too big. Overall, I’m not sure if this new AC formula is the way to go, it does have some good things going for it, just not sure if its better than the previous just yet. Expand

Timed quests could have been left out,no need for them you get plenty XP from other activities.Huge loading times but this is a constant drawback for plenty ps4 games.

I did not find the first DLC offering very original as it tended to follow a similar pattern to the main story, but the second DLC (Atlantis) I really enjoyed. I managed to clock well over 400 hours on odyssey finding a few bugs and bits of lag. Also the ship combat element began to fell repetitive after a few hours on the sea. This does not stop me giving this game a 10/10. The micro transactions are not intrusive or necessary so do not impact gameplay. Expand

Now I have to admit that Odyssey is not the game for everyone, but it definitely was the game for me. Still I gave it a rating downgrade for the grindy nature.

Let's get to the parts I loved while playing this.

    1. Setting
Assassin's Creed Odyssey is set in ancient greece and executes this theme with mastery. The map consists of a continental part where the story takes place and a bunch of islands with side quests. The different areas are not hugely distinct from each other but there are differences and after all they are modeled after the real greece, so there was not that much freedom for the world building. One thing that stands out is the mythology. Ubisoft managed to weave it into the AC-Lore. I don't know about the AC part but it is a really exciting way to look at these ancient tales. This is especially true for the Atlantis DLC.

    2. Combat
In my opinion the combat in Odyssey was extremely fun, skill based and open to experiment with. There are plenty of fun and useful abilities. The variety of gear with stats that really matter makes it possible to create lots of different builds that all feel unique. With the right build it is possible to beat every enemy that is up to 10 levels above the level of you and your gear.
The stealth system worked a lot different from that in other parts of the series though. The main difference being that stealth is now a choice you have to actively make. I think this is a good design decision. I played huge parts of the game as an Assassin and had a stealth focused build up to the point where that got way to easy (killed every miniboss in one assassination + ability and did stealth area damage). I had to sacrifice some physical strength to achieve that though.
Ship battles were not that exciting but still ok and rather optional.

    3. Story/Immersion
Not only the world design but also the quest design is focused on letting you feel ancient greece. While the gameplay of the quests is ok and the storytelling has its highs and lows, with the best being the island side quests and the ending, what really stands out is the immersion. I was able to do everything I wanted to do in Greece and the story fully revolved around feeling like a greek hero. Slaying beasts, fighting epic battles, invading fortresses or forging mighty weapons which, together with your skills, let you feel like a god.

As stated above you might not like Odyssey. You might start the game, play 20 hours then get bored of the gameplay and move on. This game has flaws, for example the repetitiveness or the amount of time it takes to level yourself or your gear up. I was constantly at the need of upgrade material. However, if you love the theme of Greece and its politics or mythology, if you like a varied combat system and like hours of it, chances are you'll love this game.
I am such a person. I sunk 230 hours into this game and its two DLC's and I don't regret a single minute of it. And if there was more of it I sure as hell would play that as well. I did every cultist, every riddle, every quest or side quest, fought my way to the top of the mercenary ranking, collected every legendary gear piece that can be found on the map and even completed every single one of the roughly 750 locations on the map. So yes, I loved that game.

It's also quite different from traditional assassins creed games but I view that as a good thing as I found the old formula quite stale and AC Unity was the last AC game I played and I wasn't able to finish it.

    Pros:
    * This game is huge and looks very good for such a large open world game.
    * The gameplay is quite addictive. I loved how they changed the gameplay to become more of an RPG. You can optimise your playthrough to become either a Hunter (archer), Warrior, or Assassin. I've read that being a Hunter does the most DPS but I find being an archer boring so I went for a Warrior/Assassin hybrid. The warrior combat is the most fun.

Being an Assassin is also necessary as a lot of fortresses have way too many soldiers to kill in open combat so it's good to invest in this skill tree and find weapons/armour that increase your assassination damage. Unlike with older AC titles, many times you cannot assassinate someone with a one hit kill despite sneaking up on them. This being more of an RPG, you need to invest points into the Assassin tree and optimise your weapons/armour to deal the most damage whilst you're sneaking around. Usually polemarchs/warlords and captains cannot be killed in a one hit kill assassination but investing in the assassin tree still makes sense as your assassin damage is exponentially higher than your warrior damage so you can deal most of your damage upfront making open combat a little easier.
    * Gameplay is more varied than past AC games (except maybe origins but I haven't played that). You play as a mercenary so you can side with either Athens or Sparta. I chose to remain neutral as you get better loot that way.
** There are conquest battles which is like one big battle between Athens and Sparta and a few mercenaries. These are heaps of fun and one of my favourite aspects of this game. I always choose the side which has a difficulty rating of hard (the other being normal) as you get better loot that way.
** There are mercenaries who hunt you down when you get a "wanted" rating, for example when you commit crime out in the open such as stealing or murder. At first I thought these mercenaries were unique as they appear in the mercenaries menu however they get replaced by other mercenaries so this can get quite repetitive. For e.g. I killed over 250 mercenaries in my playthrough.
** Fortresses and/or bandit camps. You need to take out fortresses which involves killing polemarchs/captains, destroying supplies, and looting treasures to lower the nation rating to trigger conquest battles.

    Cons:
    * My biggest complaint with this game is that it's very repetitive. I personally found the gameplay addictive enough to get through this however I still felt that it was a slog a lot of the time. The world is huge but much of it is recycled. If you've done one fortress, you've done them all. I would've preferred for this game to be more varied in its quests at half the length. Mercenaries was a nice touch even though it blatantly ripped off the Shadow of Mordor/War series.
    * The storyline and characters were mediocre at best. As the protagonist, Kassandra has a much better voice actress than Alexios so if you're choosing to play this game as a female or male, pick female. Pretty much all of the character you meet are forgettable and it's hard to care what happens to them.
    * Horse riding speed is very slow inside or near cities. Basically when your horse trots around in a city, that's the same speed as running so you're better off not using your horse in cities as while running, you're better able to traverse through obstacles like climbing over walls, houses, etc.
    * Bugs and more bugs. Most of the bugs I encountered in my 70 hour playthrough weren't game breaking but more annoying. AC titles are buggier than a lot of AAA titles I've played. The main one is characters disappearing and reappearing elsewhere during combat or disappearing altogether. This one probably isn't a bug, but sometimes Kassandra can climb over a wall or column that is pretty much flat but other times she can't climb something which is obviously less smooth. Not a huge deal but breaks the immersion as it's inconsistent.
    * Choices and consequences. Most of your decisions don't really influence anything, at least not long term. There are a few decisions that do however but these are few and far in between. Romance is the most shallow as you can "romance" some people and they'd go off and do their thing offscreen but you'll never see them again unless it's storyline related and they'd act as if it never happened. The game also gives the impression that it was written for a male main character as most besides one or two or Kassandra's love interests are female. Whilst I don't mind my character being a lesbian, it would've been nice to have more options.
    * The game is lazy with its weapons and armour.

However, the story in this game is fantastic, Ubisoft really did a good job writing these characters and I cared about each one. The choices you make can have a major impact on the ending which I find great as well. Combat is decent, but i found myself only using swords or daggers because the other weapons didn't feel right to me. Controls can be frustrating as well at times and your character won't jump or run where you want him to go. The game is quite buggy with frame drops as well. However, its really the story that makes this game and the adventure it takes you on. Ive never played a game nonstop so much in my entire life. Its fantastic. Expand

Let me preface this review by saying that this actually the first Assassin's Creed game I've ever played. I think that's important to know because a lot of the negative reviews seem to be coming from longtime fans who were let down by the direction Odyssey took. I think that's important to know because a lot of the negative reviews seem to be coming from longtime fans who were let down by the direction Odyssey took. That's too bad because, as someone who didn't have the previous installments as a frame of reference, I found this to be one of the best games I've ever played. This game is big, beautiful, and thoroughly engrossing.

Let's start with the superficial--the graphics are absolutely gorgeous. I'm a history buff, and I spent most of my playthrough in awe as I ran through the recreated streets of Athens or the imposing Minoan ruins in Crete. The textures are stunning. The colors of the Greek cities and countryside are vivid and beautiful. One of my favorite in-game activities was running through the scenery and finding new locations to synchronize (this is what unlocks different parts of the map for fast travel). Even though graphics aren't the most important thing in a game, this is a testament to the fact that they still do matter. The fact that something as mundane as unlocking fast travel locations became an experience of breathtaking beauty demonstrates how great graphics can improve a gaming experience.

In terms of gameplay, the sharp controls are a critical factor in making this game what it is. The combat system is complex and requires a great deal of precision and timing from the player. Poor controls could have derailed this game. Instead, they make the combat fluid and fun. Setting up your opponent for devastating combos is mechanically very easy to do and the only limiting factor is the player's sense of timing and accuracy.

That's not to say that they're completely perfect, however. There are a couple of annoying things that become noticeable from time-to-time. For example, you'll often find yourself fighting enemy mercenaries in the middle of crowded cities. When this happens, it's almost impossible to not take out one or more of the many innocent bystanders by mistake. This in turn raises your "bounty" (the game's system for deciding how much of a wanted man/woman you are), and before you know it, you can find yourself getting attacked by multiple mercenaries at once. It's a frustrating part of an otherwise flawless experience.

As far as the story experience, Odyssey has it all. This game is as epic and sprawling as Gladiator, Braveheart, and Troy all rolled into one. The main quest is full of dramatic twists and turns. Things can go from farcical comedy to unexpectedly emotional in a matter of a few scenes. I actually, genuinely laughed out loud a few times, and honestly got choked up at one particularly powerful scene. The side quests are generally pretty entertaining, and, even though Odyssey has its fair share of fetch quests, most of the side quests are quite enjoyable.

One thing I would have personally liked to see is more RPG elements. I understand that the addition of so many RPG elements was a point of contention among many longtime fans, but from my perspective, I think it could have used even more. The story is so emotionally heavy and the dialogue so rich and enjoyable, I would have appreciated more options to customize my character's personality with traits like charisma, lying, intimidation, etc.

Overall, this game is one of my all-time favorites. It does just about everything extremely well, and the things that it doesn't do well are typically more minor annoyances than real negative drawbacks. I would highly recommend this game to anyone who has a few dozen hours to kill.

First of all, I'm not an avid fan of AC's franchise, this is my fifth AC games (Rogue, Black Flag, Syndicate, Valhalla and this one, yes I'm going backwards), and I sort of understand why everyone hating the new direction of their beloved franchise (like I dislike modern RE games except the remakes, well that does not include RE 3 Remake of course).

However, as an avid stealth adventure game fan, of course AC games will always piqued my interest, and since I started the new AC from Valhalla, I personally believed this game is A LOT better than the successor (I'm playing Origins as I started writing this review).

It has less repetitive rinse-repeat side quests (not counting the generic mercenary's board quest of course), it's more simple in terms of the combat (although the active skills is a bit bothersome to handle sometimes), better MC, and better story (main campaign).

Minor gripes probably the same with many other open games as usual, less convenient fast travel point to the quest, and the ride/horse is just not as reliable as it can't cross a river (this is more like a nitpicking), and the amount you have to spend on your ship for a certain trophy, even though the ship is less important to the main campaign (you don't need to invest heavily).

So for a neutral player point of view, I don't mind AC heading this direction, it's inevitable since they have to expand the universe, it's still a stealth and open game, with beautiful lore and historical place, try it, if you have the chance.

So this time we are in the Ancient Greece, in the time of the Minotaur, Cyclops, and many known characters like Sokrates, Hippokrates, Perikles,... The story of a Spartan family and the Greek world being destroyed or manipulated by the Cult is brilliant and well-made. In every part of Greece there are different quests and challenges, land to conquer or plunder, either being a Spartan or Athenian. After some time side-quests become too repetitive and you will propably try to skip them. Well, after at least half of the game, everything starts to feel repetitive, in every location, always same activities, but if you are a completionist like me, you will probably spend another few hours trying to finish every location activity. Aside the quest being repetitive, the world of Greece is amazing, so beautiful, many historical locations and different cities.
Talking about rpg elements, the skill tree is well detailed and gives you many options, stealth assassination not the best but acceptable. Main character movement not the realistic one, falling from a cliff and you don't die, weird running animation and not many parkour animations.

All in all I enjoyed playing this game and it took me more than 100 hours to finish it, but it was worth the time.

Downside: The leveling system in the late games are pointless. The auto-scale of enemy level just keep you constantly changing gears that are acquired by random spawn. This keeps you from focusing on the build. The expense at upgrading your favorite builds prevents you from doing it. Besides, the auto-save feature could have been improved.

With AC: Odyssey, I have been hooked from the very beginning. Kassandra is a fantastic, strong, funny and engaging protagonist who is curious and questioning at just the right times (I'm sure Alexios is equally engaging, I just chose to play as Kassandra). The world itself is absolutely stunning and I found myself running around just exploring for the sake of exploring more often than not. The story itself, I found very interesting as Kassandra journeyed around ancient Greece, taking on cultists and trying to piece her family together.

While the gameplay occasionally felt quite repetitive, it was easy to grasp and understand. The world is open and you can go wherever you want, climb whatever you want and see whatever you want. It has an easy-access photomode for those that enjoy taking screenshots.

I cared more for these characters and the world than I ever did in previous Assassin’s Creed games, and I think that’s part of why this reboot is so successful. It also commits a few of the same sins: in particular, the deluge of gar drops feels vaguely insulting, conditioning the player to lust after items exclusive to the in-game store. It's lifted, however, by the relative wit and intelligence of its quest design, and the delicate notes of uncertainty and curiosity introduced by Exploration mode. [Christmas 2018, p.108]
