The gameplay, combat mechanics and graphics are awesome. That being said, I am not happy about the microtransactions. I feel like Ubisoft is forcing my hand when it comes to buying Helix credits to buy boosts and resources. I had to grind like crazy just to upgrade one weapon, it's insane. However, I am really hooked on this very good game and I am enjoying it a lot.

Assassins Creed is a beautiful series of titles spanning over the last decade, with the highs of its early success with the stories of Altair, Ezio and Desmond and the bumpy road of what came after an early triumph, it was when Ubisoft then gave breathing room for the franchise for the first time back in 2016 for the games to come when both the developers and fans are ready, 2017 was theAssassins Creed is a beautiful series of titles spanning over the last decade, with the highs of its early success with the stories of Altair, Ezio and Desmond and the bumpy road of what came after an early triumph, it was when Ubisoft then gave breathing room for the franchise for the first time back in 2016 for the games to come when both the developers and fans are ready, 2017 was the first sign of things to come with Assassins Creed: Origins, the 20th game from the IP and the 15th Console game.

Assassins Creed: Odyssey is however the turning point for myself, i think this game has done for this generation of consoles for what Assassins Creed II (or the entire Ezio Trilogy) did for the last generation of consoles, i would rate this title higher, but i think the original story outside of the animus needs revision, i don't think the animus is the first thing on the list anymore, its more of an afterthought, i don't want it to be a chore, i want it to be interesting again, but the rest of the game is absolutely superb

If this is the foundations of the next line of Assassins Creed games going into the next generation of consoles, this is the best position to be in with the franchise, i am saying this for the first time in a while, i am definitely anticipating the next in the franchise

In my mind they finally Assassin's Creed right with the move to being a full open world action RPG. One of the best looking games I've ever played, a great main character (Kassandra) and a lot of flexibility with the traditional strength of the series putting this in an interesting historical context. Props to Ubisoft for toning down the modern day parts significantly.

After 20 hours it's time to write my own review. So it's 9 of 10, and actually, I really want to mark it as 10 / 10 only because of weird bad marks here.

After 20 hours it's time to write my own review. So it's 9 of 10, and actually, I really want to mark it as 10 / 10 only because of weird bad marks here.

    1) Because people hate microtransactions, but they are absolutely not required. Not at all. I just play this game, enjoy it and have never visited a shop. Actually, I don't know what is inside it. because I completely don't feel like I need it.

Because usually, people visit a shop to have some advantage in an online game. Common, people, is it online game? Why do you rush this game and try to reach level 50 faster? What's a point?

    2) People don't like that it looks same as Origin. Yes, true, it's more or less same. It's not same battle system, and I like battles here more, than before. First, now enemies attack you simultaniously. Second, we have "assasins", which try to kill you ( up to 5 simultaniously). Third, we have "area battle" now.

    3) People paid for some gold or like this package and don't like it. Well, it was described, what is inside. So just read and check before buy it.

    4) People compare this game with "old assasin". Well, I am not fan of old assasin. So if you're fan of them, and don't like Origin - don't try this too. But for me it was new game, and I like it.

So, finally, it's good game. with interesting battle system, interesting plot. Of course, it's not excellent, don't expect brillian RPG, brilliant and completely new story. No, but it's good enough. So, finally, my mark is 8.5 (again, after 20 hours, on 20 level).

You can spend hours just looking at your weapons, gear, the temples, the weather, the ocean, the sky, the buildings and people..it feels alive, it is almost. After i platinumed this game. i am sure that this is the best assassin's creed game to date in terms of gameplay.
The action battle is amazing, especially fighting those 4 guardians (cyclops, medusa, mino, & sphinx)
The story is quite well-written but the ending is disappointing. The side quests are definitely better than ascreed origins. This game feels more rewarding than origins.

First of all, i can understand to some degree why so many ppl whine about the microtransactions and how the whole gaming market tries to rip us gamers out of more money for a game that costs 60$ to begin with.

However Odyssey does it right. Nothing is needed to win the game, its just added for people who want a fast progress. Basicly a cheat-tool for hasty people. I never once came across a point of lacking ingredients to upgrade or build anything. So for those who seek a answer to the question: "Is it worth buying AC Odyssey?", let me make something clear. This is one of the greatest open world games out there atm. with a compelling story playing in ancient Greece. Its defenitely worth the money!

And one more word to those finding it tedious to advance in the story:
It seems youve never played a AC before.
Yes Odyssey requires a lot more than the games before, but its also far greater and bigger and has so much more to show, what kind of player goes into an open world without swaying away into on or the other sidequest or dungeon?!

No other game besides maybe skyrim gave me this much gameplay time and still felt natural and not too repetitive. Im currently at 70 Hours game time and still not finished.
I can really recommend this game to anybody interested in open world games and astonishing story and game play.

The only downside i found in this game was extremely long travel times. As the Map is this huge, it kinda is tedious to travel to places that dont have a quicktravel option. And the other one is orichalcum being super rare and the mission kinda bad for it, and unlike Origins you cant use your endgame money you dont need anymore to buy the chests that give you purple or legendary items.

A somewhat improvement over Origins. This game is very addicting and feels more fun than origins since you get to make your own decisions. The setting is also a lot better and armour in this game is really cool. Only issues I have is the running animations for Alexios look pretty weird and the game can get pretty grindy when trying to reach level 50.

I've played all AC games and a big fan of the series. I also liked AC Origins a lot.

So when I first started ACOdyssey, I hated the game. Clunky parkour, bad combat, messy stealth, all of which appeared to be a substantial downgrade from ACOrigins. But after about 50+hours spent, I've changed my mind quite a lot. The game grows on you. Parkour, combat and stealth are still not very good

But after about 50+hours spent, I've changed my mind quite a lot. The game grows on you. Parkour, combat and stealth are still not very good I think, but the game makes up for it by having a great story and good character-building.

The game doesn't require microtransactions at all. I don't understand where this criticism comes from. You don't have to pay anything at all to level up or buy resources. The game provides them all, if you pace yourself and don't rush through the game. It is called ODYSSEY; it is supposed to be a very long and very big adventure. The best way to play this is not to grind, or rush, but maybe play a little bit (1-2 quests per day) everyday for weeks, or months. Grinding through will not be enjoyable, so think of this like a long novel to be read a little bit everyday and attain long-term immersion in the story. I don't have evidence on this, but I think the game is programmed to stop giving you interesting side quests after a certain amount of daily play. This is probably added as a hidden feature to prevent people from over-playing daily; but as I said, this is just a feeling and I don't have evidence on this.

I still dislike the game's combat, especially given how the series got it very right with ACBlackFlag. Why mess it up when you had near-ideal combat mechanics? Also, AC series is all about parkour and stealth. Both are sub-par in the game. This is probably because the map is so large that the only way to provide a uniform experience was to dumb down combat, parkour and stealth.

Another accurate criticism is the fact that the game contains very small portion of AC features. There is quite minimal linkage to the wider AC story line and the game doesn't feel like an AC game. Rather, this is the story of a dude and dudette having a fun adventure in the Greek islands with very little relevance to AC as a whole.

Overall, I think the game is good, deserves the time you invest in it and great holiday-season game to get lost in. Big world, lots to do and overall fun if you pace yourself and not rush through a fun experience.

I don't know why there has been so many negative reviews for this game. It might not be your typical AC game but it is close to the lore of AC than any other game. As others have said - if you like AC Origins, you will love Odyssey. I'm happy with the switch to RPG format. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. This game is well-made (mostly), grand in scale and thoroughly entertaining for hours on end.

AC Odyssey has only one glaring drawback in my opinion. In contrast to Origins, the melee combat in Odyssey is subpar. And since melee combat may be the overriding component of one's play style, I considered scoring this one 9 out of 10. However, I feel this game deserves a 10 because everything aside from melee combat is class. Plus, if you're accurately spec'd for ranged combat and good with the bow, you can easily one or two-shot literally every non-boss enemy type in HARD mode - including mercenaries - using basic arrows. Therefore, making melee combat redundant. Moreover, the mechanics of ranged combat in Odyssey are vastly improved over Origins.

At no point during my tens of hours of play was I interrupted by, forced to or felt the need to invest in a micro-transaction of any sort. All micro-transactions in AC Odyssey are neatly tucked away in a side menu - out of sight.

It may or may not be true that one can't simply play through the main questline while ignoring side activities, due to alleged hurdles in levelling. I wouldn't know because I did a heck of a lot of side activities throughout. There are many different kinds of level-boosting side activities in AC Odyssey. Yes, the daily/weekly side quests posted on billboards are mostly monotonous. But, there are other side quests scattered throughout the world that play out similarly to those in Witcher 3. There is a lot to do in this game - moreso than in Origins. Nonetheless, I understand that some players may not have time for side activities.

    Pros:
-Perfects everything from Origins and gets rid of the stupid shield.
-The Mercenary system is simple but really cool as they hunt you when you do stuff to piss of a faction or the people.
-There is another tree of bad guys that you must hunt across Greece.

-Does Greek history well (although not always historically accurate)
    -The story is fantastic.

    Cons:
    -Microtransactions, microtransactions, microtransactions
-If you aren't playing as a completionist from the beginning you will feel the grind of leveling. Luckily there is a TON of side stuff to help you out (didn't bother me very much)
-Level-gating areas reduces the feeling of an open world (although it forces you to explore the first areas more)

The experience boost in the store is unnecessary. I didn't have it and didn't miss it. The quests are pretty good and interesting enough for leveling, and the locations in which you do them or which you explore are pretty. I have at no moment needed to grind.

Some of the locales are really beautiful too. Found myself playing with the photo mode as well quite often. They also added historical information about the places you visit, which makes exploring interesting as well.

It's so expansive and you actually feel like a core part of the world. I'm far more tempted to explore and do all of the side activities than I have been for any of the other games in the franchise. Previously, the AC series has struggled to compel you to do anything other than the main story but no longer. You're having unique interactions with all NPCs, some have even heard of your legend already. There are a wide variety of unique activities such as conquests, naval battles, clearing forts, exploring ruins and caves, obtaining items from bodies that may seamlessly give you a clue about something else you can capitalise on for a reward (information such as bounty locations etc.) and an even wider variety of side quests.

The nightmare mode is also a nice addition if a little grueling, sometimes. While the challenge encourages you to navigate situations in different, fun and interesting ways - perhaps drawing one ship away from its 'fleet' in order to sink it, lest you get bombarded by 3 ships: which you WILL lose (skill plays a part I guess, but you can't be a one-person army in this mode) - it's also quite frustrating to constantly be cycling your gear around and trading equipment that you like for a garbage but higher level (and therefore has a higher dps/defence stat) item. If you don't do this, you'll be at a severe disadvantage when it comes to combat because all enemies scale in their leveling with you. You can upgrade, but the only way you're going to be able to get the huge amount of resources and money in order to be able to upgrade the better gear is by doing activities which will demand that you engage in combat in some form. And with sub-par gear in nightmare mode, you're not going to come out on top. It just costs (in terms of money and resources) a little too much to maintain your gear's usefulness.

But that's a small nitpick in an otherwise incredibly rewarding Assassin's Creed entry.

Odyssey is an amazing game. It is definitely an open world game with all of it's trappings, so if you don't typically like open worlds, it may not appeal to you. I personally love just picking a direction once the game loads and taking on any challenges I come across as I run, so this game rewards that kind of play in spades, as they have any number of locations such as forts, camps, ruins, and even the mansions of a country's leader that you can come across.

The combat is extremely fun with the abilities you unlock as you level up. You can assign up to 8 melee and 4 ranged into your hot bars and use them as you build up adrenaline through combat. You can taylor your character to suit your play style via 3 different styles of combat be it ranged/bows, melee weapons from quick daggers to slower swords or spears to heavy maces and axes, or you can go stealthy and play as the original Assassin archetype. The abilities are augmented by weapons and armors that you can pick up throughout the game that have stats that help boost various combat stats.

Character progression is cool at the surface, but it still feels a bit limited in the actual depth that you can advance. The mastery option they patched in later definitely adds some depth to it, but I'd like to see them split out from just 3 trees and maybe have a tree for each weapon type.

The story overall is good. It's not great, but it definitely is good enough to keep you engaged as you travel across Ancient Greece. The voice acting is pretty good in the main story bits, but on the random quests that are just there for extra experience as you take out locations, it's pretty mundane.

Many of the regions also have their own quest line that tells its own self contained story, and i think that is great. In fact I wish more open world games would give up trying to tell one giant narrative and focus on doing this approach.

However, one of the things that I think they struggle with, is the fact that they try to do TOO much at once in one game. Starting with the Story. There isn't just one main story line of quests, but 2 or 3 going on at once.

You also are dealing with 3 primary game play systems as well. You have the normal "on the ground" game where you go and fight enemies/targets and gain the spoils of said victories to advance. Or you can hop on a ship and spend almost all of your time on there, fighting your target(s) of choice on the open waters and even advance and customize your ship as you go with the spoils of defeated enemy ships. Or you can go and pick a side in the conflict between the Athenians and Spartans and involve yourself in their large scale battles. The problem is, if you just want to focus on just one of those systems, you are sometimes forced to participate in other ones to advance the story, which you have to do as some abilities/unlocks only happen at certain points in the story.

Overall, this is one of my favorite games of 2018. However, I do need to stress that I'm a huge fan of Open World games, so this is purely based on that. If you need a more focused experience, this game will actually have the opposite effect as they really do have an issue with staying focused to the point that even I wasn't head over heals about.

I understand what people say about it feeling less like an assassin game because particularly as you level up, you find you have to fight your way through places and it becomes less stealth and more a fighting game.

The weapons and armor are fun but i would have liked a bit more variety in gear.

Pegasus was a much needed add on to make travelling by horse much more accessible.

Hunting down the Cult members was always fun and discovering secret areas and the sea exploration and ship battles reminded me of Black Flag, which was great.

I think this game is far better than Origins and is maybe even my favourite AC to date. I'd definitely recommend the game.

The game itself is beautiful. The landscape seems to go on forever, climb up high and see a mountain in the far distance, you might think to yourself I wonder what's on the other side of that? On this game you can find out! There's just so much game here that depending on how many side missions you want to do, mercenaries you want to hunt down, the cult you want to take out,get to max level, try this build try that build, max level your ship... Ypu could easily spend hundreds of hours playing this game!!!

For people who like to finish games and by the end of it feel like you've done everything the game has to offer, and do it in a timely fashion to move onto the next game might he disappointed. For ne the games absolutely epic, with a fight system that can be as simple or a deep as you decide to make it. Different weaponn types have different combos, mixing in dash attacks at certain points delivery faster attacks. It's just an epic adventure as long as you've got the time to play it. You get out of Odessy what you're prepared to put in.

The PS5 60fps means it runs smooth as butter and this vastly improves the visual experience and especially the combat, and I had major issues with these 2 aspects back in 2018. TW3’s magic was in the quality of its side quests. How I went through some amazing stories because I sought them out. Odyssey is the same in this regard. While the main story is in fact good, some of the best quest chains and boss fights are in the optional content. I followed my curiosity and sought these stories out. By the end I was the top ranked mercenary, champion of the arena and I had wiped out the entire cult, and I finally completed the “sci-fi” quest chain too. All these things I did because I wanted to. I’m just 70 hours I feel I lived through a life in Ancient Greece. I was completely lost there during the holidays. I’m so glad I played this game and so many people judge it for not being something it’s clearly not intending to do. Sometimes it’s good to let the past die because old AC had run its course. To be honest, Kassandra is probably the best choice as she reminded me so much as Ezio Auditore from AC2 and the voice capture performance by the actress is top notch right there. In terms of story, it is about as generic as any other AC game has to offer in terms of delivering a decent narrative, but the 60+ hour main story is bloated and somewhat forgettable which frustrates most players. Aside from that, the open world that AC Odyssey offers is huge filled with interesting background perspectives and detail that makes you want to stay and learn more about Ancient Greece and it is historical perfection. Lastly, the combat and RPG mechanics has been vastly improved which is an absolute delight if you want more action and choices for you to do while spending time in Ancient Greece. AC Odyssey might not be an Assassin's Creed game we all know and love, but the Spartan influence is so strong that this game will make the player feel like a Spartan badass as there are things to see and do in Ancient Greece thanks to its influence that impacted our society of tomorrow. The world of Ancient Greece is so well put together that when you stopped running from point A to point B and took time to absorb all of the finer details you realise just how immersive this game could be. Kassandra is a real badass, and spending the 100+ hours diving into shipwrecks, fighting epic battles, assassinating cult leaders and accidentally leaping off of tall cliffs on my trusty steed (sorry Phobos) was a memorable experience that surpassed nearly all of the other AC games to date (ACII still holds out as a favourite).

If you love Greek mythology, sprawling open world adventures with hundreds of quests available, weapons and armour to collect and horses which come back from the dead after a long fall then I would definitely recommend Odyssey.

I got this on PC a few weeks ago....
It is graphically excellent,, the beauty of the world,, the way the weather and the sea act is superb.
The The Towns Cities and Villages are beautiful.. I enjoyed the Fighting,, the swimming, climbing and so on.. Stealth works great. Horse riding is fine, though I often collide with someone or A Bear or Wolf and poor thing is no more. Story

Story is great fun, though in some places I think Your Fame SHOULD have been know, and in other places a different reply by you should have been there.

I felt that you should have been able to Talk to the people you Recruit as this is meant to be an Rpg, espc your mother lol..

Over all,, I love the game..

Something new to do every single month.

I honestly cannot believe it wasn't talked about more. People complain a lot about live service games and their value but when a game does it objectively better than any game ever before, no one even bats an eye at it. Ubisoft should be praised for how they handled Odyssey after release in my opinion. This is how you do a live service game and release new content.

Love this game! I didn't stay interested in AC: Origins, but even after beating the main story and the expansions, i still find myself roaming around doing side quests and stumbling across cool sites and fights. The only negative I have is the Helix Credits store is still really expensive.

A big upgrade to Origins. Do not read the rantings about micrktransactions. They are there mostly for cosmetic reasons. You can complete the game easily without any. One of the only true RPG's left out there. Can't wait for Valhala

Surprisingly good action RPG. It has great settings, historical characters, mythical monsters and existing places.

The worst about this game are the "Assassin Creed" parts (mostly present parts), without them the game would be much better. The game also does not have proper ending with ending credits. It was huge disappointment which left me like not finishing the game after 90 invested

It was huge disappointment which left me like not finishing the game after 90 invested hours. After this enormous time I was looking forward to already finish the game and move to something else. I believe most mature players these days have enough money, but they do not have enough time (e.g. I will not be able to finish in my life all the games and books which I own). From the authors of the games I would expect to prepare the game as good as possible without any fillers and with proper ending respecting its players (and customers of the authors). Quality is more than quantity and Assassins Creed franchise is not the type of game like Monster Hunter. The proper length would be approx. 40-50 hours. Or at least the mains missions (like hunt for cultist) should not be hidden between hundreds of side quests.

Also the movement is little bit clunky and fighting is quite simple. I have played RDR2 right before it and then started Death Stranding. Both these games has much better feeling of moving in real environment.

Simply said without great characters and ancient Greek setting, I would enjoy the game much less.

Greek mythological figures such as Medusa also eventually appear. Unfortunately, the side-missions are mainly fetch quests. Combat mechanics and the Mercenary system recalls Shadow of Mordor more than Assassin's Creed. Fans of "Origins" will certainly love this. But if you didn't like that Egypt-set adventure, then you'll probably skip this one. The franchise has become a "Witcher"-like action game for better or worse. I would rate "Odyssey" with an 8.3 out of 10. Expand

I cared more for these characters and the world than I ever did in previous Assassin’s Creed games, and I think that’s part of why this reboot is so successful. Playing Assassin’s Creed Odyssey left me feeling valiant and triumphant as I worked my way up the cultist food chain, and and I was always excited to see what Kassandra was off to discover next.

If someone had told me couple of years ago that Assassin’s Creed would become a full-fledged action RPG that would not look out of place on a shelf next to The Witcher 3, I would have snickered. But here I am, over 80 hours into Odyssey and still unable to believe that really happened. [12/2018, p.44]

It also commits a few of the same sins: in particular, the deluge of gar drops feels vaguely insulting, conditioning the player to lust after items exclusive to the in-game store. It's lifted, however, by the relative wit and intelligence of its quest design, and the delicate notes of uncertainty and curiosity introduced by Exploration mode. [Christmas 2018, p.108]
