    What an mediocre game! Filled with progressive garbage, and above the protagonists can not use shields being supposedly Greek warriors. So the protagonists are Greek warriors and can not use shields? Well, if so, I'm not interested in using your mediocre game

    Assassins Greed Odyssey is by far one of the worst entries on the franchise full of bad game design and poor story telling. Let´s start with the dialog and story (NO SPOILERS), so the dialogs system tries to be like witcher 3 dialog but unfortunantley falls flat, in one mission I tried calming down a little girl and appeard a dialog for it but what my Alexios said was a brutally opinionAssassins Greed Odyssey is by far one of the worst entries on the franchise full of bad game design and poor story telling. Let´s start with the dialog and story (NO SPOILERS), so the dialogs system tries to be like witcher 3 dialog but unfortunantley falls flat, in one mission I tried calming down a little girl and appeard a dialog for it but what my Alexios said was a brutally opinion and harmed the poor girl´s feelings and this type of dialogs are spread in all the game side quests and main missions. The flashbacks are cheesy with no impact at all, and the romance system is so boring, it doesn´t requiered attetion to the character you trying to romance, just press the romance of option and BAM you just got a hot date with a boring no meaningful character, were in other games you need to actually put effort in doing it.
    Now the combat: Origins did a great job evolving AC combat and it was simple, functonal, with a functional lock-system. But un AC Odyssey is a complete mess, the parry requieres two buttons to work LB+RB which if you ask me is pointless,when in other games like witcher 3, dark souls, origins, etc., you only press one button for the parry and it worked so good because hey just requieres pressing one simple button. When you hold LB for a special attack or parry, your character is completley vulnerable and thanks to the delay of buttons in the game, you´ll end up getting hit, (NOTE: Im playing this game on nightmare mode), the lock system is crazy, with a small move the joystick you´ll change the lock to multiple enemies, a cool feature on ORIGINS was when you were close to a structure, plant, fence, etc., you could see through those things so you wouldn´t miss the character and concencrete fully on the battle, when AC Odyssey doesn´t have that helpful feature and last but not least the special attacks are broken, specially the spartan kick, you know your game has problems when people abuse the special attacks and that makes the game unchallenging when they´re charge.
    Difficulty: like I said, Im playing on nightmare mode. As someone who loves a challenge, the difficulty on AC is not challenging but absurd, when Im fighting against the legedary animals Im so concentrated on them that when all they call more animals to aid the "boss" my enjoyment is completely ruin by a bad game design wich is that, when you are fighting a boss is suppose to be between you and the boss and not their minions+boss and the problems mentioned before made the battles more frustrating and the same goes to captains, ORIGINS nightmare mode made it fair and challenging. -OH JUST LOWER THE DIFFICULTY DOWN, yeah like lowering down the difficulty will fix the problems of game design in the game.
    Special features:
    Bounty: the bounty was a create concept, but poorly introduced. Mercenaries appeared out of nowhere next to you after 5 seconds into the bounty, they´re crazy powerful or weak mercenaries, they aren´t divieded by zones. The phylakitais on ORIGINS worked so much better, all of them were powerful but fair and divided by zones.
    System Isolation: I hate the new armor/lvl/combat system, they isolate the stealth, combat and ranged combat. When I tried doing my playthrough stealthy I was completley rekt, why? Simple, my assassin armor was weak, and if I used the hunter or warrior armor, they´ll decreased my stealth damage, at the en I gave up on my stealth playthrough and went combat only which is a shame since I love my stealth missions and playthrough. The bows are completley useless even with full hunter armor. Games like MGSV, origins, metro, etc. Reward you for stealth and aren´t isolated by a stupid and painful system isolation.
    Animations: thanks to the poorly lock system, the mess of a combat system, and bad game desing, the animations paid a huge price specially on the combat, they are so many bad animations for the enemies that I usually miss a parry thanks the to poorly made animations, some enemies will hit you with an invisible attack that connected with you even 2mts away. And the climbing, I always get stuck on various parts of the maps thanks to a poorly placed polygon or bad programming.
    Enemies: the female enemies with spears are crazy powerful, they´ll hit you non-stop even if you hit them they wont flinch at all, the big ones are easy but with creazy powerful attacks, but mostly easy, the one handed sword are fast for its own good, and then the shield ones thata are like mountain with a crazy defense or weak defense. There is no balance and so many other enemies that are more broken than FOR HONOR at launch.
    I could keep going and say more about the problems about this game, but Im running out of characters. So at the end, DO NOT HEAR THE GAME JOURNALIST AND GAME CRITIQUES LIKE IGN AND GAMESTOP, they were paid to said good things about this game (like always). After this awful expirience Im never buying a game from ubisoft quebec ever again.    … Expand

    I liked AC Origins as it refreshed and breathed some much needed life into the AC franchise, and I was even willing to overlook the fact that it was less about Assassins and more about political warfare.

    So why the two stars? Well, so much of this game is copy and pasted from Origins! It is far too similar, as if they literally reskinned characters, towns and missions from Origins and    I liked AC Origins as it refreshed and breathed some much needed life into the AC franchise, and I was even willing to overlook the fact that it was less about Assassins and more about political warfare.

    So why the two stars? Well, so much of this game is copy and pasted from Origins! It is far too similar, as if they literally reskinned characters, towns and missions from Origins and somehow did a bad job of it. There is not a lot of new content here really.

    That been said, I could have understood the lack of new content since this was released a year after Origins, but it seems a year was not enough time to make new content but was ample time to shove in microtransactions within microtransactions! To save you and I time, just look up Jim Sterling's Jimpressions on YouTube for this game. He gives more detail. They have also made the game slower and more grindy to encourage people to PAY MORE MONEY to progress through the game faster.

    Absolutely ridiculous. Avoid this tosh that isn't worth £20, never mind the ludicrous prices Ubisoft want you to pay. I've given up hope for this franchise now. It was one step forward and five steps back.    … Expand

    I don't know where to begin since this game is a complete and utter mess. The entire game is focused on selling microtransactions and every part of gameplay suffers from this because it's all created to make you want to buy them. Not to mention the constant FPS drops, loading while walking, loading while talking, loading...while doing everything always along with the bugs/glitches.

    I've come to realize that AC fans just don't know what they want and ruin the series with reviews that don't make any sense or accurately depict what is going on. Ubi comes out with a fresh take for a stagnating series and adds some open world RPG elements that were not perfect in origins but I step in the right direction for the future of the game. Biggest issue there was story. Now, Ubi implements some Witched esque elements (which makes sense for a now open world series w RPG elements as the Witcher is a prime example for this genre) and fans lose their minds over aspects of the game like 'grinding" or "not really AC". Well, if the fans would have supported Ubi instead of lost their minds over small issues earlier in the series Ubi would not have had to experience a crisis of identity or format and arrive at this game. This is far from the original gameplay and story that made AC famous but that does not make it a bad game. It plays great, its vast, the story isn't bad (though the voice acting budget might need some love), and its a step in the right direction. Don't let the hate keep you from enjoying an intensive and well developed game that isn't perfect. 9/10 for me. Room to improve.… Expand

I hate bad customer support, and I hate a company so big that they don't actually care about the individual person using their service. So they lost whatever money they got from me over roughly $2.50 in imaginary currency.

    This is the first Assassin's Creed game I have bought in a long time. I found the other ones repetitive and eventually boring. Decided to give Odyssey a chance. Game play was good, graphics were good and the story was good. None of that was a problem. However on principle alone I returned the game. Upon completion of Chapter 2, you are supposed to receive 200 free Helix credits. This is actually a very, very, very, very small amount. Its literally worthless in their store. I don't particularly care about the credits. I couldn't have done anything with them anyways, which is fine. It's free and its value is inconsequential. What I have a problem with, is that I never received the credits. No big deal, I figure just contact support and I'll get the credits back. I figure, surely they aren't going to care about $2.50 of imaginary currency, for imaginary products in an imaginary world. Nope, they sure as heck do. They care so much that even when I told them I would return the game if I wasn't given the same product as other customers that paid the same amount, they still said THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT. Like the helix credits are locked in some freaking safe, with a key that someone threw away upon completion of construction of said safe. That is insane to me, that a company that received probably at least $30 in PURE PROFIT from me, is willing to lose that business for $2.50 of imaginary currency. I will never ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever buy another ubisoft product again.     People like Origins so Ubi gonna explode this formula to sell... How many games? Probably 2 or 3 more, all the games they can before the fans pissed off

    Crashes immediately within the first 5 seconds everytime. Lots of people having the same problem. Ubisoft support is useless. Spent hours trying generic fixes none of which had a hope of working.

Assassin's creed should always improve in stealth and parkour, always. But somehow it is reversed. We don't have a hidden Blade. We don't have social stealth, we Don't have Parkour and most important, No Assassins. I do not want to go much into detail as I would be just repeating other players, but basically this is not game what you would expect in the end of 2018.

    Story is really bad, non-existent, uninteresting, badly scripted. The whole drive of AC franchise has disappeared, mostly because of lack of Assassins and Templars. This game is called Assassins Creed but You, as player, do not belong to any fraction. You are just mercenary who in his attempt for vengeance is fighting randomly for Athens or Sparta with no core drives. Main quests and also side quests are very repetitive, offering no challenge or innovative approach. All actions are mostly limited to “go there, kill somebody, come back, but it is not enough, you need to return back where you came from and bring something else”.

    AC franchise was mostly interesting for its illuminati-like narrative, retelling history, legends and myths in its own and very original way through eyes of secret organizations operating behind main events in human history. But this aspect is hugely missing making entire story very boring and history turned upside down just to serve sick political and race correctness in slavery states in acient Greece.

    Except the story, the gameplay is literally disaster. It never happened to me on any console that any game was freezing or lagging as AC:Oddysey does. Graphics and animation compared to Horizon Zero Dawn from 2017 or God of War from early 2018 is on lowest level.

    Combat system based on levels is also very painful and poorly designed, making it nearly impossible to defeat character even 1 level above you (3 levels above are marked with red skull). This strips any challenge on any difficulty and chance to defeat your enemies just with your playing skills. You basically need to be correct level to proceed to locations or even main story, what brings me to next point.

    Hated microtransaction, yes, they are plenty and players are rightfully angry about it. Oddysey is not cheap game, not even in most basic edition without all DLCs and bonus content, and still Ubisoft is forcing players to spend another 20 EUR for some “Time savers” to get right amount of experience and game currency so you can continue in main story without running around and completing repetitive side quests.

    But worst of worst is loading time of game which is amazingly long. Especially in age of eliminating loading time to minimum, in this game you will get longest loading time between in-game cutscenes and gameplay I have ever seen. The worst it is when you wait several minutes to load cutscene which is couple seconds long and then you wait another minutes to get back to gameplay. Fast Travel option just lost all meaning when travelling by by foor is qicker than using fast travel option with insane loading time.

    All in all, I need to acknowledge size of this world and plenty of side quests and characters. I would say that main reason behind all microtransactions is that 60 USD is not real price of this game, rather 100 USD in basic edition, thanks to its enormity. However, poor combat system and terrible gameplay experience make it one of the worst games I ever bought.    … Expand

The story is very disjointed, the graphics - I know I already mentioned them, but I have to say again - are simply terrible. It feels like they knew the game was no good, but had to get it out the door so they released it anyway. My recommendation: RedBox it first. I have played most of the AC games since the original, and while they sometimes seem a bit repetitive, I've like all of the ones I have played. This one might be the series jumping the shark.     Animations bad, no or bad Parcour, alwys the same quests, very bad TW3 Copy, Romances without feelings and or actual Footage, short Main Story, nothing to hold on to, also very expensive, PC Performance could be better without using a Supercomputer, one of the worst AC so far, UBI PLS MAKE A AC1 Remake

    I'm a huge fan of the combat in AC Origin and if you feel the same DO NOT BUY THIS!!!. The combat in Odyssey is clunky, unpolished, and feels like they took several steps back from the previous title. I really tried to be positive, but this game is complete garbage. I'm not happy with how poorly this game turned out and wanted to voice my opinion on it.

    Ubisoft took Origins a made everything worse. Boring camps with reused assets (legitimately every camp looks the same), terrible bounty system, non-functional stealth, bullet sponge enemies, useless bow, grindy as hell. Story is slightly better than Origins, which isn't saying much. Some sidequests are cool.

I started the game on hard and while I did play through a rough experience at first, I only encountered impossible scenarios as I progressed. More often than not, I had to 'cheese' my way through enemy encampments just to progress the story. Being 1 level under an enemy leader, my assassinations did little damage and my swords acted as feather dusters. I attempted to lower my difficulty from hard to medium, then to easy, and enduring the god awfully long loading screens that come with this process. At the end easy proved no different from hard. Enemy count was not reduced and my feathered dusters were only slightly upgraded in damage to nerf swords. Even before this broken levelling system pushed me over the edge I was frustrated with the camera and controls. WHY is getting off your horse a different button than getting on it!? Even after trying to remap the controls, and fighting with conflicts, did I still not get the desired effect. I would give this game 2 points for world design and textures... If I could even zoom in the camera to see more of my character and the world around me but no, it is fixed far behind the player. The writing is also god awful. The characters outside of the animus are more lifeless than the simulations it recreates. I dare anyone to get through the first cutscene (after the MANDATORY first battle) and not cringe. The characters have no depth and the starting story is easily dismissible. The side missions, storywise, are pointless. I have never played the bad guy in a game before, but because of my growing frustrations with Odyssey, I always chose to make life hell for anyone I encountered in the game. This should not be considered a triple A title... It lacks too many features included by other studios and is a tremendous letdown. Save your money, replay black flag or Origins.… Expand

The naval battles also leave something to be desired, again, they need to learn from previous games like Black flag. The fact that we have to choose the answers to everything ourselves now is an incredibly a stupid concept, especially if we need to get certain ones in a certain way to get the whole family together. Some people don't like sitting through the dialouge hence we sit there clueless ass to what to choose. The map is sooooo unclear at all times, you can never find the necessary symbol, just filled with a lot of jibberish. Fix these issues in Valhalla plz. I love the greek mythos and on the first impression, I thought, wow I can be Leonidas and I can be Themistocles. The game is not greedy. You can not purchase anything and yet be OP. The classification of gear (Common, rare, epic, legendary) is rewarding enough. The boss fights are draining, but the rewards are worth it. The game has a pretty good sense of humour too. Jesting with characters like Alkibiades and Socrates is quite funny. The perpetual Peloponnesian war never lets this game end and you can switch your allegiance at your whim! That's what a mercenary does right? The Skill tree is not too complicated and fun to use. The USP is the Sparta Kick, paying homage to Leonidas' legendary "This is Sparta"! I would've liked it if I could upgrade the Ship (going from a sailboat to the Black Pearl), but the ship's shape and size remain the same. There is always more than one way to achieve an objective. This AC would keep you hooked for hours with over 200+ hours of gameplay before the main quest line ends. Then again, you can still explore various island nations, do Bounty or side quests. Gameplay-wise, it's quite nice. Decent map pointers move mechanics are uniform and refreshing combat mechanics. You can't just pound your enemy into submission (maybe you can in the later stages of the game), you have to wait for the opportunity to attack. Fighting to run away from an OP enemy is also looks quite genuine. Customizing the gear and character and gear looks is sweet, one moment I am a greek hoplite, in next one I am a Persian assassin..ha! Fun right?
    My verdict: Please buy, you won't regret it!

This time around however, the characters aren't switched between throughout the game but selected once at the start. I checked if there was any substance to the choice online, but there isn't so I just chose Kassandra as she was easier to understand.

    Speaking of false choices, due to Assassins Creed trying so hard to be an rpg these days there's now constant choice prompts in character interactions instead of the traditional cut scenes. They're mostly redundant and just serve to demand player attention and interaction giving the illusion of choice. 99% of choices only give a different responding sentence and don't otherwise affect the conversation or the gameplay in any way.
    I would've enjoyed the game much more without them and had to stop myself from spamming circle to skip through conversations.
    An example early on of the falsity of choice is choosing a horse. You have to ask about each horse to get told of their "strengths", you go to pick the one with the desired strength only to be told it has a weakness which you dont get told of, then told to choose again or decide. Turns out the horses are all pretty much the same, have the same "weakness" response when selected, then have the same name, and control and travel the same speed.

    As with Origins, ubisoft are constantly ruining the controls of the game, now taking the horrible rpg-like controls from origins and further worsening them by removing shields and requiring multiple simultaneous key presses to block attacks. Additionally, heavy weapons have been nerfed since Origins, where they used to provide a block type move mid-swing, now no longer do so in Oddysey, so heavy weapons are now slower and offer no defense.

    You have the false illusion of being able to assassinate, except assassination doesn't kill on a single hit unless you are of the same level as the enemy. I long for the days of real Assassins Creed, where enemies weren't all gods.

    Many moves which were default in Origins now need to be unlocked, eg Overpower. Even worse, "revelation" aka "pulse" aka eagle vision (rip) something that has existing since AC1, now has to be unlocked and isn't default by points (which makes no sense in an AC plotline). It's also pretty much useless even maxed up as the eagle (up arrow) is far better at finding and identifying things than the revelation/pulse.

    Ruined the lore. According to an item at the beginning within Oddysey (not even part of the plot), the precursors took the names of gods rather than being mistaken for gods as per the original Desmond plot of AC.
    Instead of being assassins vs templars, this game is a soap opera about a family. It's the most boring assassins creed game i've played, and perhaps the most boring game in general I've played. Also, there's now supernatural mythical enemies now. Origins had some mythology, but it only did this within the pharaoh dlc and within the guise of curses. This is just straight-up running around hack-and-slash grinding identical enemies with varying level mixed with mythical beasts.

    I don't understand what this game was trying to be. Obviously some sort of RPG, for some reason. But.. it's a terrible rpg. There's no real role to play. There's no feeling of accomplishment. No variation in missions. No meaning to choice or actions. Only a few decisions actually matter and honestly I didn't care about a single one of them as the situations are dull. Inventory management is rubbish.
    Quests are disposible. There's no plot, it's just a character traveling around trying to find other characters, and whilst doing this having sex with as many people, male or female, as they can. And not in a funny way like Leisure Suit Larry. Just a cringe way like pandering to teenagers. None of the relationships matter, and the sex doesn't do anything for the character or story. The ending even hammers home how pointless all of these interactions were.
    The plot was already quite thin with Origins, but at least what there was of a plot was fairly memorable. The characters mattered and the main arc made sense. There's really nothing memorable with Oddysey.
    Horizon zero dawn, was a much better action rpg, it's such a superior game in literally every way.

    As a fan since the original Assassin's Creed in 2007, this will be the last Assassin's Creed game I will buy. I never imagined one day i'd be stuck playing an assassins creed game where I have to roam around spamming slash attacks on artificially leveled-up enemies and worse, fantastical monsters, while searching for members of my family only for nothing to really happen when I do.. This was meant to be a game about assassins and stealth, good vs evil, vox populi vs capitalism, and the origin of humankind.    … Expand

    Repeatable and boring game. Nothing new, terrible story. You have to complete 300-400 identical locations - kill 10-20 mobs, loot chests, rinse and repeat.

    It's so boring, with beautiful landscapes and sea views, this game provides you with the same stupid quests. Dialogs between characters so boring that it make no sense to listen to them. What can I say - another assassin creed.

    Origins was great, then they decided to just make a game with the same mechanics but in worse and no fun. Thats what u gwt with this game - no mea ingful queats, just random stuff to do that never leads anywhere

    One of the best Assassin's Creeds so far, I liked every second of it and it pushed me to turn PS5 everyday to end the story despite I am a guy who doesn't have a lot of time to play any game even once a week lately!
    Also I liked Kassandra character and I think they can even expand this game with this protagonist

    Used to be an 8, until the DLC came out. For every step forward in sexuality choices they ruin the "canon" of all of your decisions by forcing your character to be straight. Absolute blunder of a decision considering this game used to be wonderful.

    Microtransactions are aggressive, just like everything Ubisoft does now.

    Dont by this **** I completed AC origin - its not bad game, and I expected the same from Odyssey, but better. Not. Totally degradation. DONT BY THIS **** do not repeat my mistakes

    Graphics are good but the rest is just awful. The identity of Assassin’s Creed IS LOST. If it didn’t have AC in the tile you wouldn’t even know. The RPG mechanics don’t fit this saga, combat is just silly and cartoony and the atmosphere is just too politically correct. It’s a boring and grindy game and the end of an era.

    I cared more for these characters and the world than I ever did in previous Assassin’s Creed games, and I think that’s part of why this reboot is so successful. Playing Assassin’s Creed Odyssey left me feeling valiant and triumphant as I worked my way up the cultist food chain, and and I was always excited to see what Kassandra was off to discover next.

    If someone had told me couple of years ago that Assassin’s Creed would become a full-fledged action RPG that would not look out of place on a shelf next to The Witcher 3, I would have snickered. But here I am, over 80 hours into Odyssey and still unable to believe that really happened. [12/2018, p.44]
