Although the graphics could be sharper, this game suits players who love to explore vast environments and tackle puzzles along the way. Based on factual science and history, this is a must for survival lovers that want to learn as they conquer this harsh and unforgiving landscape. Also, hat’s off to this game for offering a unique storyline and gameplay experience, striving away from the open-worlds with maps and guidelines that we are used to playing as gamers.

Ancestors The Humankind Odyssey is tough to master but fascinating to play, thanks to the freedom of its atypical open world. Every discovery becomes an exciting moment, although not always easily interpretable; in addition, the later release of the console version allowed the developers to improve it in all its features.

A game that not everyone will appreciate for what it really is: a raw and faithful experience of what the first steps of humanity really represented. It suffers from certain shortcomings, but we believe that the final product is a title worth giving a chance.

Ancestors is more than a survival game. Panache Digital developed some interesting mechanics about evolution, learning and neuronal development. But the game has technical issues and gets repetitive after a few hours.

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is a brave and original video game that seeks to surprise with a unique survival experience.

Patrice Desilets’ study of our primitive ancestors in the aptly named Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey has come to consoles and brings with it a host of improvements, but still suffers here and there with some points of frustration.

Ancestors is a beautiful game that pits you against all odds in the simulated perspectives of our forebears. Go about through millions of years of evolution, but don’t expect your hand to be held throughout. It’s about exploration, survival, and learning. Curiosity and patience have to be your biggest drivers to get by. Aside from questionable AI choices and oftentimes monotonous tasking, it’s an interesting experience.

Ancestors is a large, fussy, and at times uneven survival experience, but it's also deeply gratifying once you sink your teeth in.

Ancestors has an intriguing concept, but its slow gameplay and the high degree of precision required to succeed make it a mostly frustrating experience. Worth a try, but you might want to wait for a discount.

The things that make Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey so appealing are the same thing that make it frustrating. Many things stand in the way of your progress, many of those things being mechanics, and rewards come sparingly. At the same time, there is something wholly unique here that, if you can properly sink your teeth into it, you could find yourself completely engulfed in it.

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey aims to tackle the evolution of mankind from our animal forebears, a hefty task for any one piece of media. While the goal is incredibly admirable, Panache Digital Games puts too much on its plate. It attempts to break down the process of human development in a fascinating way, but the concept ends up being tremendously difficult to translate into typical controls and gameplay. The information conveyance and gameplay implementation are ultimately disappointing, given how much curiosity the game fosters and inspires. The game still offers interesting content, especially in the audio and visual departments. While the effort put into the game is certainly laudable, the result of Ancestors is ultimately middling.

While the slow-paced nature of Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey was a bit too much of a slog for me, there are plenty of players who will be up to the challenge. An effective ‘Human Simulator,” the ambition of the game is seen in its graphics, audio, and overall immersive long-haul gameplay. Just be prepared to put in the time. After all, evolution didn’t happen overnight.

While the idea of being able to influence the evolution of your clan of apes seems novel and exciting the reality is that it’s a bit of a repetitive slog. Through bad decisions or sheer bad luck, it’s far too easy to wipe out your whole clan which means that you’ll have to start all over again from the beginning. It’s an interesting experience but one that’s tough to recommend to anyone but the most patient of gamers.

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey has some good ideas, but the slow pace and repetitive gameplay will wear you down quickly. Watch some gameplay footage before picking this one up.

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey has a huge gene pool of potential, but endless repetition and clunky controls need to be removed from its DNA. For die-hard survival and exploration fans there is a worthwhile experience here, but for everyone else this is a game that’s so repetitive it’ll drive you bananas.

    Ancestors The Humankind Odyessey
Not really a game for me
If you’ve been around long enough you know that assassins creed is my favorite gaming series of all time, so when I found at the the creator of my favorite series is making a new game, I couldn’t not play it.. so I hopped into ancestors with excitement and intrigue… excited to create a new lineage of primates, go through the struggles, the trials and tribulations of becoming human.. and after about 2 hours of monkeying around, I discovered that this experience just isn’t for me…
Ancestors The Humankind Odyssey is a survival game where you start as a male, female, or random character thrown into the jungle… and I actually got assassins creed vibes right from the jump.. with that classic bird opening, even as im climbing trees and swinging from vines.. this felt like the true assassins creed origins… but the longer I stayed in this world the more it furtrated me and the more it pushed me away….
I feel a bit tricked… the game opens with a little cutscene, youre given a mission to hide, and then go find yourself as a member of your little money tribe… I was kind of under the impression that this game was going to deliver a story, but it doesn’t… it goes from you have my attention to I have no idea what im supposed to be doing… and that’s kind of the point.. our ancestors didn’t know what theyre supposed to be doing either… they had to figure everything out.. so you set out to discover, find food, tools, landmarks…deal with predators, and use this gain knowledge to pass it onto a new generation, to evolve and advance your species… this is a game of discovery and survival.. and its this survival part that kills the game for me personally… I am not a survival fan at all… I’m not into dealing with injuries.. especially in a game with fairly clunky feeling mechanics… im not into finding water, finding food.. dealing with poison and cold, and sleep systems… not even a little bit… but even if I were.. these systems make you feel handcuffed… you feel restricted to exploration because your meters ae draining, and if you venture too far you risk hysteria which instantly pulls you back and respawns you.. like a glitch in the animous when you go beyond that blue wall the game doesn’t want you to see yet… which in turn kind of take away the mystery of the game, it takes away the feeling of exploration and just turns it into survival and discovery.. . which again just isn’t my kind of thing…
if you are into survival type games though, I do feel that ancestors offers a very unique experience.. this isn’t a bad game by any stretch of the imagination… its just one of those kind of games that either its your thing or its not… and if youre not it wont do anything such as having an interesting story to give it a chance to become your thing…
I give Ancestors The Humankind Odyessey
    a 6/10

For when the goal was to relax but also to enjoy the essence of something different, this is the game. I can't stop exploring and although that there are a lot of issues such as control lock, bugs, no saving points, no on line approach. But the game itself is 5gb full of emotions, beautiful ideas and an original evolution system which will make you turn every rock, collect all leafs and alter any object.
This is not a run to the final level, this is a story and to dive in give it time, don't think that you need to beat the game, go back to roots when you were just playing in your bedroom without any contact with outside world or who's the best out there.
This is a very underrated game.
