    So I haven't been able to play many games due to work and being tired but I got this game for Christmas and was very excited. Honestly I've made time for this game and have stayed up knowing I'm going to absolutely exhausted the next day. I love everything about this game and I don't believe enough people have played it. Looking for a new game? Give Plague Tale Innocence a chance

    Fantastic graphics, sound, story and gameplay. Fans of The Last of Us may like to play this while they wait for the sequel, as it has similar stealth and crafting elements. One of my top 5 games of 2019. Superb.

    Ein absolutes Highlight des Spielejahres 2019. Das Spiel hat eine sehr gute Story und eine dichte Atmosphäre. Auch ist es ein schöner Kontrast zu den immergleichen Spielen von Ubisoft und co. Bitte mehr davon.

    One of the best titles of 2019 considering its budget. The rat swarm mechanics are frightening at times, while the story and gameplay ramps up signficantly as you progress. Even the voice acting is incredible. Definitely play!

    If you want insta kills for every mistake you make this game is for you. I like stealth games and puzzle games but I do not enjoy getting killed everytime I make even a small mistake, also I really don´t like games where your character cannot defend itself. There are plenty of instances where you kill an enemy that has a sword with him, why doesn´t your character pick that sword up, youIf you want insta kills for every mistake you make this game is for you. Overall an ok game, very linear (it could be good or bad depending on your tastes), it plays similar in style to Tomb Raider without the platforming or shooting, and with a lot easier puzzles.. One other thing the boy Hugo is annoying as hell so be advised that you´ll hear his annoying complaining a lot... This game has potential I would reallly like a sequel where your character could fight if spotted, without an annoying kid, and tougher puzzles, and maybe add platforming sequences..… Expand

    Such an amazing game, beautiful characters that get you hooked and you want to find out more and more! One thing that I'd recommend is to play this with the french dub as it feels much more natural than the english one

    One of the best games I've ever played and I've played a ton of games

    A hidden gem! Had the same feeling as when I found Hellblade - complete surprise that you can get this level of game experience from games that go a little under the radar. The story is beautiful, and the gameplay works well around it. Those darn rats are so creepy.

    This game is The Last Of Us meets 13th century France.
    I stumbled upon this game by chance and as soon as I found it I knew I wanted this one. The story is great, the dialogue is amazing.
    Docked points for graphics. It didn't look as crisp as today's games look, but man is this game amazing! If in doubt about this one I can tell you you'll love it!

    Where did this game come from? It wasn't hyped that much but turned out to be unreal.
    The first 10 minutes made me think it was going to be **** for some reason but it quickly turns that around.
    The story is one of the best I've ever seen in a game. Reminds me of the earlier seasons of Game of Thrones. The atmosphere is so good
    The gameplay is unorthodox but good as well. Solid 9.5/10

    A beautiful game with a wonderful story and characters to love and hate. The game contrast it’s beautiful set pieces and some generally horrifying moments. A highly enjoyable game i’ll remember for some time.

    All thru out of game strongly reminded me of The Last of Us. Stealth, check! Surrogate parent-child relationship going from total strangers to true family, check! Action sequences, check! Brutal environment, double check. It is like The Last of Us on budget, but Asobo did the maximum with limited resources they had.

When playing, you get very involved with each character feelings after being struck with many horrors and being able to see how they confront them while being able to maintain sanity is something unique.     My all time favorite game ever. Beautiful world, incredibly well written and rich story (possibly one of the best I've played), lovable characters that you connect with, and excellent voice acting. This game is worth every penny and more as it provides an experience you don't find in many games today. Easily falls in the MASTERPIECE category and deserves a sequel.

    On the other hand, if you prefer to wreck a town with heavy swords fromsoftware style then this game will disappoint you. My heart gives it a 4/10 but that’s my opinion.     It's definitely not as good as all the reviews said. The graphic and atmosphere was really good, but the story wasn't a big deal. At the and of the game, the gameplay was very frustrating. You had to fight, but it was originally a stealth game, so the compulsory fighting sections just didn't work. It's not worth 45 Euro.

    Great game.
    I played it first alone and then with my 11 year old daughter.
    Strongest points are story, visuals, gameplay and music.
    I loved the game's length, it took me some 15 hours.
    Not a fan of games that are repetitive for the sake of extending its lengths.

    Very surprised by this little game. Picked up when on sale and didn't regret it.
    Interesting use of limited range weapons, stealth and "extra" abilities later on. It's suspenseful as fun. Short chapters make this an easy on to pop in and out of. Must play for lovers of indie games!

Also, there was way to much trial and error where you gotta die and fiddle around with dumb controls to get the solution to work. The last few chapters I longed for it to be over.     I can see the developers put a LOT of love in this game, and because of that it is very sad for me to admit that is need quite a few improvements. The story, worldbuilding and characters are mostly great but the game holds your hand WAY to much.     I hadn't heard of this game until seeing it for sale on PSN, and though I'm now ashamed to admit I purchased it second hand - I would have happily paid full price for it.

    The game started off with a great setting, interesting plot and good skill curve. At some point everything starts to crumble it seems: characters act inconsistent, the story seems too foreseeable and the gameplay is the same, combat also too easy. It seemed to me like they wanted to finish the story off quick. For short, it's a moderate game for me.

    One of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. The story and character progression is fantastic. The overall immersion and the world building is extraordinary and so is the music. Yes, the enemy AI isn't the best one, but the writing and pacing does save it from breaking the immersion.
    The puzzles aren't the hardest ones around but that is to not mess with the pacing of the story    One of the best gaming experiences I've ever had.     * storyline is beautiful, enthralling and thrilling; nice to also see a female character in the lead
    * restarting from last checkpoint is blissfully quick - it only takes as long as the very nice animation that transitions you to your past state * voice acting is very good - dramatic moments come through and set a very convincing mood * load screens are beautiful; also, when    The Good:
    * storyline is beautiful, enthralling and thrilling; nice to also see a female character in the lead
    * restarting from last checkpoint is blissfully quick - it only takes as long as the very nice animation that transitions you to your past state
    * voice acting is very good - dramatic moments come through and set a very convincing mood
    * load screens are beautiful; also, when starting the game up, you get a short text describing the situation: those are beautifully worded, and set the mood even before the game loads (great idea that one)
    * nice touches like the character's frightened breath accompany one through stealth moments - super nice touch
    * nice interaction between protagonists, with each having complementary skills; a VERY real sense of team-work is present
    * puzzles increase in difficulty to the point where several tries might be necessary - very satisfying once you do figure them out
    * soundtrack is vvvery on point

    The Mixed:
    * visuals are beautiful (played on a ps4 pro @ 1080) but stuck at 30fps the game is a bit jarry, especially on a large panel. either way - everything, all the assets are. simply. beautiful.
    * the rats offer a very interesting dynamic - I only wish they were solid ... as they are now they pass through objects and at times simply despawn/walk into into solid rock floors

    The Bad:
    * game mechanic is a bit underdeveloped, jumping over obstacles is a bit un-natural (not tragic though); in some forest scenes there are areas where the player can't walk ... invisible barriers mean all of a sudden you're walking on the spot, I would've liked a bit more attention to such details (like having bushes or something to fence in the explorable are (this is done mostly, but not always)

    Closing thoughts:
    * there are similarities between this game and The Last of Us, however, whereas realism is pushed to a scientific extreme in The Last of Us, a more lax approach is taken here; similar mood though - which I did enjoy
    * in my view any game that earns itself a comparison with TLoU is extremely worthy.
    * it also passed the threshold to ear a permanent spot in my collection - I usually sell off games after I'm done with them -- not this one    … Expand

    I tried this game out since reviews were really high and I enjoy emotional narratives. The graphics/atmosphere were breathtaking. That was my favorite part of the game. I also liked how the game was split into chapters which were usually evenly paced. It felt good to progress forward and beat the game. The gameplay was something different and unique as was the plot.     A Plague Tale: Innocence is a great game with great graphics and gameplay. The Voice acting is outstanding. The story is dark and engaging and would like to see more games like this all in 10/10 and a must buy for anyone who likes this kind of game

    Such a great game, a lot of the AAA companies could take a slice of it. Interesting and mysterious story. Lovable characters. The voices and especially the soundtrack were superb. The price is more than fair for the content you will get. For me the most surprising game of 2019 so far.

    HOWEVER - there is one thing about it that is absolutely inexcusable - the voice acting. For a tale of many characters, tons of text and a lot of    There is a lot to like about A Plague Tale - gorgeous environments, intrigue, a good flow and sense of momentum, and a good trickle of new abilities to keep you learning to play as you go. It's not difficult by any stretch, but that's fine.

    HOWEVER - there is one thing about it that is absolutely inexcusable - the voice acting. For a tale of many characters, tons of text and a lot of speech, it really breaks my heart to see how bad it is. I don't accuse the actors though - the person who decided that the entire game should be conveyed with the most awful French impersonations should get a kick to the head. What WERE you thinking?? That it sounds more authentic with thick accents?! "Chernobyl" got it - if you're not going to be speaking the native tongue of the setting - don't distract your audience! Don't cripple your actors! Literally none of the emotional moments in this game land because somebody insisted it makes more sense for characters to sound "authentic" than for speech to sound natural, and that is an absolutely BAFFLING decision..

    But do I recommend it? Well, it's an okay, sometimes great game with gorgeous environments and mediocre animations overall. It maintains momentum at the expense of being a bit basic in terms of gameplay, and that's fine, not everything needs to be a Hardcore RPG where You Died all the time. The accents weigh down the score quite a bit, since the story is interesting and I wanted to connect to the characters, but it's really impossible to do when they're busier trying to force out a fake accent than to express any sort of emotion, and that, for a plot-heavy game, is really too goddamn bad.    … Expand

    I really liked this game. It's unique in several aspects. The Setting is very unique and interesting. Also the gameplay is not something you see that much. I liked the way, how the game slowly introduced more weapons/ways to defeat enemies. I loved the characters, especially the two protagonists.

    One of the best (story) games I‘ve ever played - definitely on a stage with TLOU or Heavy Rain for me. So **** EA... Single player games are dead? They are more alive since ever and a Plague Tale is a masterpiece :) not like the **** other AAA studios produced in the last years...

I am so happy this came out because I have been disappointed terribly by the 2019 games so far. The voice acting was great, as were the relationships between the characters. I like the graphics, and like the Unchartered games the gifts were very difficult to find. I do believe you can go back and replay the chapter to pick up what you missed. I found the combat, and puzzles very challenging. Getting around was interesting, and the concept of the game was good. The story was amazing. I enjoyed every minute I played. The game was just so much fun. I didn't know a slingshot could do so much damage. I was glad it was all about the combat, and a lot of stealth involved (Hugo) was great. I had just come from playing Sekiro, and the was so much more fun. There were plenty of tense moments. Please support this small developer, and buy this game. We need more games like this and Hellblade.… Expand

    I'm quite disappointed with this. Why? Because the first 30 minutes were incredible! I loved wandering about the mansion / castle grounds, chatting with the servants and experiencing the great details in the location. So much potential for creating a true exploration game with puzzles and intelligent game design.

    Instead **** hits the fan pretty quickly, you are told to start running / sneaking, and it basically doesn't let up from there. Plenty of pretty locations, but it's like a long tunnel and you don't get to appreciate it at all. Ugh.... So much potential!!!!    … Expand

    Cons:

    - Graphics - For some reason to me they look a little blurry/foggy/hazy on a ps pro. Despite me fiddling with various settings I wasn’t 100% happy (I got used to it) but perhaps its partly to do with the art style?

    - Stealth (+movement?) - Later in the game when the difficulty ramps up a bit on a few occasions I felt frustrated by a few sections & ended up dying on a few occasions whilst trial & error-ing my way through. This may partly be down to poor choice on my part, but sometimes solid cover as opposed to long grass led to a few awkward camera moments and being detected by ranged enemies. Basically at times when you are presented with various options, it’s difficult to know the best one.

    - Replayability - Whilst I’m probably going to spend some time gathering in game collectibles to obtain the platinum trophy, beyond that I don’t think there’s much else... Whilst the game does have a chapter select & easily tracks what you’ve collected so far unfortunately you can’t replay earlier chapters with your current upgrades. I was disappointed to discover this earlier, as it would have been cool to go back to earlier parts of the game all ‘maxed out’.
    As for dlc? I’ve not heard anything and I’m not sure its the sort of game where dlc would be added which is a shame. Plus I think it’s a small studio so probably not :/

    Summary:
    Solid story with good characters & interesting gameplay unlike anything you’ve probably played. It’s dark, gritty, you feel vulnerable & enemies pose a real threat if you aren’t careful in your approach (particularly end-game). The game challenges the player to use a variety of different mechanics to manipulate their environment. A few ‘dodgy’ stealth sections, non-sharp graphics & a lack of replayability just slightly take the shine off this gem of a find, but it’s a well put together game nonetheless. 8/10.    … Expand

    Such an amazing game! I love single player only driven stories, no multiplayer is needed. A Plague Tales stealth is really quite enjoyable, Amecia's bond with her brother Hugo is such a good one, and the supporting characters fit right in with the story. If you are a lover of story only games and are tired of mindless multiplayer crap shooters, than this game is a must play!

    This is the first game of this type I've ever played and I am really delighted. This is just something wonderful and I did not expect such a wonderful game.
    The story and atmosphere drag you into the game so much, you won't stop playing.

It's not even a long game. However, the framework that holds it together from the music to the graphics to the pacing is scripted, acted, and directed to perfection.

    Cons: Uninteresting gameplay. AI are idiots. Stealth is weak. Puzzles are childsplay. No FOV slider. Camera is tied to movement when in motion making it impossible to survey your surroundings and enjoy the graphics unless you stand still. Mild shadow and texture pop in, worsened ehen not playing in HDR. Babysitting can get quite cumbersome when trying to explore.    … Expand

    This game isn’t challenging one bit, however it still manages to be engaging,
    Its no walk through the park, you have to distract guards and use fire to get your way through the sea of rats
    You aren’t completely defensless though, you’ve got a sling
    You can gather materials throughout the world to craft different items for this sling, you have a rock that can be used to distract guards or head shot them and as the game progress youll unlock new abilities such as setting fire to burnable object to scare the rats just to name a few…
    This adds a styx or even a dishonored layer of theres more than one solution to moving onto the next section of the game
    and chckpoints here are great, so youll rarely have to redo large sections of the game if you fail..
    And thankfull A plague tale does a great job of keeping the environment fresh as well as the gameplay, however this is where my biggest issue with the game comes into play,
    A plague world goes for a tense feel rather than a fun kids creating mischief feel which is fine…
    This means that you cant just run through the game crafting whatever whenever…
    you need materials to upgrade your arsnel and certain materials are scarce
    These items are more for I have no other option…

    A plague tale doesn’t suffer from pacing problems, in fact it does a great job most of the time at giving you a break from the action to just enjoy story pieces and sets.. but I would’ve liked more of this… more slow walk, talk, enjoy the plague moments…
    All in all A plague Tale Innocence is a unique experience set in an intriguing world with a well written and directed story guaranteed to keep you hooked

    For a game that comes from a small studio this game is incredible. I urge everyone to buy this game and support the creators of this game because they fully deserve your money and they should have the resources to be able to keep making games like this.

    i thought the last of us was tense, but this game made to re-think the concepts of being tense. The game started simple and mysterious, im close to the end, and i couldnt help, i had to come here to say that this game was a surprise to me, i knew it would be good, but not that good.

Sure, you encounter the stereotypical "rat in the basement" in various RPGs but Asobo created a creepy and deadly threat that keeps you on your toes. The story is very interesting and leaves you in the dark for quite some time. It builds up nicely and so does the relationship between the protagonists. I found myself hating the characters at some points and understanding why they acted the way they did later on. This is how character development should work. The environmental design is perfectly done. Stunning landscapes change into creepy and disgusting areas and back, each change reflected by the hauntingly beautiful soundtrack.
    The controls are a bit wonky at times and the walking/running looks slightly unnatural. Same applies to the facial animations. They often don't reflect the feelings that the top notch voice acting transports. Also, I would've wished for a slightly more challenging stealth and puzzle part. However, this is not an AAA developer and if you keep this in mind, it's an absolutely gorgeous game and the reason why I give it a 9 instead of an 8. Highly recommended.    … Expand

    Yes the puzzles in this game are on the easier side but that is also fine. Not all puzzle obstacles need a genius to solve them, especially when the story is this captivating.     Very interesting and unique game that is a good mix of horror and suspense. Although there are small issues here and there such as slightly choppy game mechanics/animation, overall it is very a refreshing game that I am enjoying very much.

    The gameplay    With beautiful visuals, haunting yet atmospheric music, excellent sound and voice acting and brilliant and heartfelt writing with incredible polish that rivals AAA titles, A Plague Tale: Innocence is every bit a game AAA titles should aspire to be. Yet a small team of 45 has done the unthinkable and has outdone most games far above its budget with pure love and passion.

    The gameplay provides a linear and streamlined experience with enough variety to keep players interested without giving too much to overwhelm or distract the player from the heart and soul of the game i.e. the tale of a journey of two innocent children through a medieval dark world full of death and chaos. This game brings the savagery of Game of Thrones, the heart of The Last of Us, the polish of Unchartered 4, the atmosphere of Bloodborne and a decent stealth-based mechanic that will appeal to casual players as well as satiate more hardcore players.

    If you've been repeatedly disappointed by the run in the mill AAA games that frequently fail to deliver to the hype, buy this game instead, you will not be disappointed. This game is easily a best game contender of 2019 with the likes of Resident Evil 2 Remake and Devil May Cry 5.

    I literally signed up for an account just to give love to this game. Studios making original, unique single player games are too rare in 2019 and we should all be thankful and encouraging when something this gorgeous and thoughtful is released. From somebody who doesn't generally love linear games, all I can say is "This game is as perfect as it set out to be." I love it so much.

    This is phenomenal for an indie game. Yeah, it has a few flaws and it is a little simplistic. But it is just so much fun to sneak around and take out the bad guy in such unique ways. I never found it dull or boring.

    There are even a couple nice boss fights that remind me of the 2000s Tomb Raider games, or maybe Baba Yaga from Rise of the Tomb Raider.
    Overall it is somewhat easy, but still a great experience, and quite beautiful. In that respect it reminds me of Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice.
    If you like any of the above-mentioned games or Inside, Limbo, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, RiMe, or Thief you'll probably like A Plague Tale.    … Expand

    There’s a lot lifted from other games in A Plague Tale, but somehow there’s nothing cynical about it. This is a full-hearted reach for the big time of AAA storytelling that succeeds in the most important departments, thanks to its sparkling polish and subtle characterisation. It’s one of a handful of games for which I could tell you the personality traits and motivations of not just the protagonists, but four or five secondary characters. Consider this review a carrier: Asobo Studio is a name that’s going to spread.

    Aside from the basic gameplay and a few rough edges, A Plague Tale: Innocence tells an incredibly gripping story about a couple of kids in the most grim circumstances imaginable. It nails the horrifying setting with standout visuals and a thick atmosphere that is worth experiencing at least once. If you're looking for the next great story to play through, A Plague Tale is definitely it.

    I thoroughly enjoyed A Plague Tale: Innocence from start to finish and cannot fault this title at all. While the gameplay is fluid that is accompanied by excellent graphics and audio, where A Plague Tale – Innocence shines is with its characters and the way it tells their story. So if you’re upset at how Game of Thrones ended and need a story that is told correctly, A Plague Tale – Innocence does that flawlessly.
