    Stealth and story lead the way in this awesome 10 hour game! Really felt connected to the characters. The mood of the game was set and maintained well to always make things feel uneasy and dark although the older sister must keep hope and keep pushing for her brother.

    This game is criminally underrated. Great story and gameplay. Characters are very likeable and Hugo is literally the sweetest kid in video game history.

    Undoubtedly a unique game; but the game play reminds me of the time when we used to play games in our Pentium 3. I really hope that in the sequel of it, the gameplay would be more dynamic

    Amazing storytelling, great scenery, atmosphere, direction and graphics. The best parts of this game are the soundtrack and the unique way it has to keep you on your toes and create a series of emotions. A masterpiece, can't wait for a sequel.

The 10+ hour jaunt through medieval France delivered an engaging mix of gameplay and story telling. Excluding animation, most elements come together nicely to facilitate a memorable experience. Stealth, striking atmosphere, and a relatively nuanced soundtrack drive player progression and passionately aid what at first feels like a foray into 'B movie' territory.

    On the surface, A Plague Tale appears inspired by Naughty Dog's The Last of Us and reminiscent of Resident Evil 4 or even Dishonored. Dark Souls-esque embers define traversable boundaries while hordes of vermin run rampant across grotesque and poigant scenery. A supernatural force subdues the land and propels the main characters through a plague stricken realm of decay, while a megalomaniac and self-proclaimed 'saint' pursue with haste the blood of a very special (afflicted by a primeval curse) young boy. This curated journey reveals depth by the light of well-paced gameplay mechanics and a remarkable level of immersion.

    I'm generally impressed by the use of light in this game, be it formed by flame or the intermittent day/night cycle. Misty fog, dust spots, detailed textures, reflect nicely and the character dimensions blend well. Unfortunately, jarring animations break the immersive atmosphere, and a total lack of motion capture disrupts the impact of other well-crafted in-game elements. Strong gameplay loops save face for budget animations. Stealth works well, while the most suspenseful encounters occur via slingshot combat. A David vs Goliath vibe rings round my mind when the main character defends herself against the pig-headed henchmen of a holy inquisition. With odds stacked against you, ultimately destined to die and succumb to Hell on Earth, you sling for your soul.

    Hopefully this ambitious alchemical marriage garners enough positive feedback and sales to see a sequel emerge soon. This eclectic emulation of some AAA gameplay loops has set itself apart as a bold storyteller.

    A Plague Tale: Innocence score 7.5 (round up to 8)

    Gameplay 8 - Pros: Well-paced skill progression, fun mix of light puzzles. Cons: Repetitive combat.

    Graphics 7- Pros: Detailed environments, picturesque horror-scapes. Cons: Poor character animations and lack of motion capture.

    Sound 8 - Pros: Nuanced soundtrack, supplements suspense. Cons: Voice acting can sound a bit static and lack dynamic undertones. I thought the script wasn't delivered by the voice talents in a way that made dialogue flow smoothly.

    Story 7- Pros: Resident Evil like story that manages to balance grim or bleak archetypes with hope and faith. Hugo needs his mummy. Rats used seamlessly throughout the game for atmosphere, gameplay loops, story-telling, etc. Cons: Predictable plot and lack of enemy variation. Hugo needs his mummy.

    It is a smaller game, compared to some of the others I have played. But sometimes one wants smaller stories to experience. Focused ones. strictly character focused story based games.
    All of the components come together beautifully. The Performances by the voice actors, the musical score, the level design, the story, all of it.

    I wasn't a fan of the gameplay at first. To be honest this could have been an interactive movie about a brother and sister being pursed by the inquisition, and I would have been fine with that; but as it went on, it grew on me. By the end, when some revelations happen I was very much enjoying the sneaking-taking-cover and taking inquisition guards out silently.
    It is a small game, but it is told beautifully. The voice actors, devs, and the music composer all came to create a heart-touching, wonderful story of growing up, innocence, and love.

    Disclaimer: I stopped playing the game at chapter 5 because I found the voice acting unbearable: Why do the French people in this game speak English with fake French accents? Perhaps that's a personal pet peeve of mine, but it completely takes me out of the story and prevents me from relating to these characters. I can't stand it when movies do that either.     I bought the game expecting a (somewhat) realistic historical adventure (in the vein of RDR2), I didn't know it was going to be a supernatural fantasy horror, especially after reviews praised the game's realism. Sure, I could have read summaries and watched in-depth reviews, but I didn't want to spoil the story, as that's what I bought the game for.

    Everything else has already been said in the other reviews:

    - yes, the controls are somewhat clunky
    - yes, the gameplay is redundant and linear (the stealth mechanisms can get a bit tiring for my taste)
    - yes, it looks good
    - yes, the score and atmosphere are good
    - yes, the boy is annoying;-)
    - the gameplay mechanics force some laughable decisions onto the characters, as the game constantly needs to come up with reasons why we can't take torches or other sources of fire with us
    - the AI enemies are often times just too dumb to be taken seriously: So you throw a rock at a metal object a few steps away from a solider, to which he reacts by saying "Oh, what a strange noise, let me investigate!", then waltzes to the metal object, literally staring at it for 20 seconds rather than checking its surroundings.

    I bought this game to experience the story – I'm not a hard-core gamer; I just like good storytelling, but the French accents, supernatural story and (to me) overall silliness of the swarms of fire-fearing rats took me out so much that I could never really enjoy this game, even though I really wanted to based on all the good reviews it had received.    … Expand

    I really really really enjoyed the story and the characters. I really enjoyed the game. The music, pacing, and acting was perfect. I can't wait for the next gen to shore up some of the kinks. KEEP GOING WITH THIS!

    For once I’m agreeing more with the critics. It was definitely a fun game with good story, but it wasn’t amazing.

    Little variations in combat, and I noticed the game was a bit glitchy at times.

    It truly has potential though, if they ever choose to make a similar game.

    Story: 8/10.

    Gameplay: 6/10.

    Graphics: 7/10.

    A simple tale aimed at a younger audience / children I guess. Decent enough gameplay, though basic, as it takes you through the story, graphics are ok, nothing special though. Limited in scope, and a short story. Glad I only paid £10 for it, not worth much more imo.

    La ambientación y gráficos son espectaculares, gran recreación de escenarios y la historia es muy buena y te hace estar pendiente del juego todo el tiempo. Como puntos negativos veo el que los combates son muy ortopédicos, echo en falta las voces en castellano y la división de capítulos a veces está muy descompensada.

    A played through this recently on Xbox game pass and loved it. Really great story great characters, I couldn't stop playing it. Would definitely recommend. I hope there is a sequal someday

    This game is a masterpiece in its graphics, has decent gameplay, a compelling story and impeccable scenarios. However, the story and characters are a bit bland, it's very short, the facial expressions are mediocre and the photo mode is quite bugged. But the platinum is very good, even if the game costs a maximum of $ 15.

The visuals are beautifully colored, but the vibrant colors do not ruin the dark mood of the story at all.     The gameplay mainly consists of sneaking and fleeing past the enemies. At times, it can be satisfying to escape without detection. Other times, it feels like the game is just playing itself because the path forward is pretty obvious.
    The game establishes really strong characters. Each one is distinct from each other and clear with their intentions.
    It does not have much "replay value," unfortunately. Therefore, I suggest you should take your time and really enjoy your first playthrough. Subsequent playthroughs feel like a long trudge through sticky mud.
    A couple minor issues include: allies getting in your way and some unnatural dialogue that seemed out of place.    … Expand

    A good game but not a great one. I really liked the beginning of the story but towards the end it got a bit weird imo. The gameplay is nice. The graphics are good. The characters are lovable. Just wasn't the fan of the end of the story or what setting the end of the game shows.

Так круто передана атмосфера чумы, просто бомба нигде такого не видел, + особые механики геймплея тоже впечатляют очень необычный опыт.     It's hard to assess this game because considering it's a AAA game it's 6 out of 10. But Considering it's AA game it's 8 out of 10. So 7 out of 10 is something in the middle.

    In two words game is worth to be played. Plot is not bad, stealth is good, combat system is quite poor but ok for AA game. Locations are very unique. And of course rats. Rats are awesome here. Visually speaking, the game had some haunting imagery. And the soundtrack is excellent. The gameplay itself is nothing spectacular or groundbreaking, but engaging and solid. I have interrupted my Horizon ZD playthrough already 5 times without finishing although its no doubt a 10/10 game which brings everything. Plague tale had great mechanics for combat, stealth was okay (AI is stupid just like in all other games). There were some bugs here and there. What I hated10/10 because it brought a story that made me want to finish to game immediately without breaks. I have interrupted my Horizon ZD playthrough already 5 times without finishing although its no doubt a 10/10 game which brings everything.     I stumbled upon the trailer for this game on YouTube one day and was so excited I immediately bought it and started playing. Less than a day later, I was finished. Here are my thoughts:

Less than a day later, I was finished. Here are my thoughts:

    soundtrack that fits and enhances your gameplay

    Cons:
    mechanics got a little repetitive for me
    some super cheesy dialogue sprinkled throughout
    graphics seem like a step down for a game that is relatively newer
    it's basically a lesser-version of The Last of Us
    Pretty quick game - only 10-15 hours (may be a pro for some people)

    That said, I enjoyed playing this game for a day. However, it definitely left me a little disappointed after how pumped I was watching the trailer. If you're into stealth games, you will find some value here as it is not too expensive and offers a worthwhile campaign. 5/10    … Expand

Over the course of the roughly 15 hours I spent with this game I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed this game, despite it's flaws.

    The game let's you play as Amicia de Rune, a young noble woman, who is tasked with taking care of her brother, Hugo de Rune, after an event that takes place at the start of the game. The story is well put together and the pacing is just right, it keeps you engaged while throwing little bits of information at you to piece the story together.

    Gameplay however, can be a chore at times. The gameplay varies from light puzzle solving to stealth/combat. The combat and stealth is very linear and it is almost always very clear what direction you need to go. Only after getting different abilities the combat and stealth start to open up but that is roughly 3/4 into the game. It's a shame because the stealth is tense and rewarding because Amicia only has a sling, you're not a soldier. The game would benefit from more player choice in tackling objectives and getting through situations.

    Sound design and music is incredible, low strings make my hands sweat during stealth sections, slow and high strings make emotional scenes that much more touching. Voice acting, especially the English voices, are lacking in some areas. On top of that, some of the animations are quite rough and in scenes where facial animations can add alot, there are barely any. Throughout the game there is a dissonance between what is being said/happening and how the characters react to that.

    It is clear to me that the team who made this game is incredibly talented and passionate about making experiences that people get emotionally invested in the world and characters.     I just finished the game and i all i can say is, It Is really good. The game itself may not be long but the scenario is wonderful from the beginning to the end. The games goes straight to the point and show us what we came from. A story about the Plague and a sister who tries to save his brother from his curse. I wish i could just explore the world i little more but its still really good.

    A plague tale is a gem of a game. It has a lot of heart and the devs clearly put a lot of effort into it. The visuals are very impressive for an indie studio, the story intriguing, and the characters interesting. The combination of stealth, sling combat, and light based puzzles make for an interesting experience, set in sceneries shifting from gently lit woods to grotesque corridors. The different types of ammo that are unlocked during the game allow for different approaches to scenarios which I enjoyed. Though toward the end, sling upgrades allow for the basic ammo to get the job done for the most part.

    The game did fall short for me a bit on the gameplay side. I found the controls quite clunky and unresponsive at times. It caused a lot of frustration when I couldn't lock onto enemies and kept dying. The gameplay and puzzles also got a bit repetitive toward the end for me.

    Game has full potential to become one of the best series in gaming. The only negative side would be Hugo, the little brother, who is always by your side and if left alone starts screaming. He does get a power by the end of the game but it comes too late. Other than that, if you like games like the FIRST The Last Of Us or Thief series, this game is a MUST. Broadly speaking, the player engages in a immense amount of violence, some of which the protagonist is horrified by. By the end of the game I have only found half of the game's collectibles. Meaning that I missed out on learning 50% of the provided learning material concerning the historical time period.     Beautiful game with an interesting story. Generally I don't like games that are one big escort mission, but it never became tedious in this... just another obstacle to overcome. Loved the mechanics of it, the graphics, the story... very little not to recommend about this game.

You play as a girl that travels together with her brother and one of the main tasks is to avoid hordes of rats and solve some environmental puzzles that aren't too hard, most of them.     This game is the best game I have played in 2019. As a game with linear gameplay, storytelling and graphics are the 2 most important things for me. This game did perfectly in these 2 aspects. This game is a must play.

    Excellent game. Very atmospheric, great music, great storytelling, beautiful and olays well. Highly recommend it if you’re into story-based adventure games. Not for the faint if heart though, its brutal (both in terms of violence and theme).

    I must say that I've been surprised by how easily I got engaged in the story. You really get invested into it and it's a damn good one. The ost, voiceacting, level design are all on point. Despite the amazing story, gameplay wasn't really that great, nothing "wow" about it. I highly recommend this to everyone that loves a well written game and we don't really have enough of these these days.

    Found this game on sale and what a find. Beautiful music and engrossing story carry you on an adventure in dark times. The gameplay is more stealth and puzzle with a touch of some action and a little bit of some rpg with how you upgrade your equipment. Fully recommend

    Fantastic game! Loved every second of it. I would recommend it for anyone that wants a good story. Graphics are genuinely gorgeous, gameplay is smooth and responsive, and again the story is great! Acting is also glad to say top-notch! Really nothing to disappoint here as long as it's story that you are after!

    This game deserves your hard earned cash! Do NOT trust the average review scores by major gaming websites. The story is GREAT, the graphics are GREAT and the game-play is also GREAT! End of story. ASOBO studio has tried something different where the player is not using classic weapons such as rifle, shotgun etc. Graphics 9/10, Audio 9/10, Gameplay 9/10, Loading 9/10.

    I was interested in the release of the game because it was a story driven game based on the black death and it intrigued me, I am glad I played it, because it was a blast, on the shorter side but well worth it.

    Ok, the game has beautiful scenery and has a great sense of the period to it. You feel yourself really in this time period walking around, however the way how you walk around brings you back to a 90s 3D game. It is ridicules. The idea of the hordes of rats is very nice but again poorly executed. All in all not a triple AAA but a good A title and definitely worth to pick up in a discount

    One of the best games of 2019. Story-driven with a clear scope, good choice of period. Nicely designed, linear levels. The gameplay mechanics with the rats is awesome - it's sometimes challenging, but not unbeatable. Could have been better optimized for the PS4 Pro.

    The game is a third-person action/puzzle game, relying on sound and lighting to create tension and a lingering feeling of danger. As a character you are always vulnerable, and rely on tactical displacement to get past the danger. You have several tools, weapons and a little brother that has the plague or something. And that's the game.

    While the way the story is told is pretty good, i find the story itself to be rather shallow, predictable and uninteresting. The fact that the gameplay of dodging patrols, creating fire and causing distractions is very repetitive doesn't help either. The best part of the game is the level when you cross a Battlefield. Apart from that level all the other ones don't feel distinctive or interesting.

    I had hopes that this game would be entertaining in its own right as many people praised it. But having played it myself, i don't see it. It is a passable game that is just to repetitive for my taste. I give this game a 6/10.    … Expand

    There’s a lot lifted from other games in A Plague Tale, but somehow there’s nothing cynical about it. This is a full-hearted reach for the big time of AAA storytelling that succeeds in the most important departments, thanks to its sparkling polish and subtle characterisation. It’s one of a handful of games for which I could tell you the personality traits and motivations of not just the protagonists, but four or five secondary characters. Consider this review a carrier: Asobo Studio is a name that’s going to spread.

    Aside from the basic gameplay and a few rough edges, A Plague Tale: Innocence tells an incredibly gripping story about a couple of kids in the most grim circumstances imaginable. It nails the horrifying setting with standout visuals and a thick atmosphere that is worth experiencing at least once. If you're looking for the next great story to play through, A Plague Tale is definitely it.

    I thoroughly enjoyed A Plague Tale: Innocence from start to finish and cannot fault this title at all. While the gameplay is fluid that is accompanied by excellent graphics and audio, where A Plague Tale – Innocence shines is with its characters and the way it tells their story. So if you’re upset at how Game of Thrones ended and need a story that is told correctly, A Plague Tale – Innocence does that flawlessly.
