Thoroughly disappointing game. For an open end sand box game, there's really not a lot to do outside of playing the same missions over and over again. This reminded me a lot of Assassin's Creed. There's really nothing to do. The story missions are the meant and potatoes of this game but when you've designed an open world, shouldn't there be more to it than Thoroughly disappointing game. The story missions are the meant and potatoes of this game but when you've designed an open world, shouldn't there be more to it than what's here? Also, the moral choices you make are absolutely pointless and simple. They did nothing to change gamePLAY. Yes, you get different powers whether you're evil or good, but the gameplay is the same so you really never feel any consequence to either choice you make. The game is a blatant rip off so many games some of which weren't that good to begin with (Assassin's Creed). Fun for a few hours but not worth a trip to drop $60 bones plus tax for. Expand

I can't say how I'll like the ending or the remainder of the story, but after 9 or so solid hours of playing, I can say that inFAMOUS has bumped Crackdown a notch down on my "superhero sandbox" games list. Although the power leveling system isn't as robust and interesting, the format of the game has really kept me going. I agree that a few of the side missions are a bit tedious (following the courier comes to mind), but what game HASN'T had tedious side missions of some sort? The replayability is a tiny bit above Grand Theft Auto 4, with a whole set of new missions for an "evil" playthrough, Cutscenes, while sparse graphically, are still interesting and fit the story perfectly. The "comic book" feel is really prevalent and I enjoy it thoroughly. Combat and controls are EXCELLENT. While still challenging when thirty people are shooting at you from surrounding rooftops, it's easy to feel like a superhero when you do a charged drop on a group of bad guys and spin around shooting bolts of electricity everywhere. Incredibly satisfying too. Honestly, I'm a bit wary of people who have rated this below a 7.5. Not that I don't believe that they have their own opinions, but out of all of them, Eurogamer is the only site that has had any sort of justification other than "I don't like it, it sucks" generalities and various nitpicks. The 60 is just unforgivable. Expand

Gang members will run through the streets shooting at windows and the innocent, or will be getting in a occasional fight with another gang. Probably one of the best sandbox games I've played in a long time (I liked it much better than GTA IV) The controls are amazingly responsive, platforming in every game should be this fluid. The combat is fun and there are several ways to handle any combat situation (the game rewards you for being creative). The story is a little lackluster, but the immersion is there. As perfect as it seems at first glance, I do have a few complaints. First off, sometimes the motion animations are a little wonky, this isn't a huge deal but sometimes I wish Cole would just stand up straight. Some of the sound effects (namely the running sound effect) are also a little... odd, especially the footsteps sound effects (which unfortunately you hear all the time). Those complaints are very forgivable and only skindeep. My biggest beef with the game is it penalizes you for playing realistically. Upper level skills are unlocked via the karma system, which only has 2 options, play as a saint, or play as the devil. If you try to take the middle road the game slams you by not letting you unlock the highest rank abilities. While that might not be a problem for some, for me it kind of hurts the immersion of the game. In one mission I might want to kill the guy who just called me a terrorist, but that doesn't mean I want to kick puppies later on, however the game gives you no choice if you want those amazing shock grenades. There should be an option to be neuteral and still be a badass. Those flaws aside, the game is ridiculously fun to play. The side missions are diverse and plentiful (and fun to boot) the story missions can be challenging at times but overall the game is at a pretty low-moderate difficulty. A very fun game none the less, if you have a PS3 you won't be disappointed buying this game. Expand

I see plenty of people bashing this game for minor technical glitches. If you focus on technical glitches, many games this gen are littered with them. Take a close look at the heavily praised Gears Of War games for example. They have their fair share of technical glitches, especially online, but they are good games so people look past it. If you have a strong focus on the negative when reviewing games then that is what you will find. Obviously there are visual glitches such as jagged lines and pop-in throughout the game. Glitches aside, I play on a 46" Sony Bravia HDTV and this is a very good looking game in full HD. The lighting effects and the textures are particularly well done. Also, the story is interesting and the comic book style cut scenes are beautifully done. While traversing Empire City what struck me is how fluid and intuitive scaling the entire city is. Cole can climb the way I wished that Altair could in Assassin's Creed. One thing I love is that I can jump off a tall building and land on a powerline far below if I aim correctly. I also like the fact that Cole can engage in a shoot out no matter what his position is. You can be hanging from the ledge of a building and still shooting reapers down below. The fact is, if Sucker Punch had created a game that was entirely derived from market research then we would have the same crap we have seen repeatedly over this current console generation. while playing Infamous I feel that I am playing a game that was designed first and foremost to be fun to play. I know that Sucker Punch designed this game, just as the Sly Cooper franchise, from the ground up with a fun gameplay experience being the main objective. They have achieved this admirably. This game plain and simple is fun as hell to play. That in my book is the most important factor in gaming. A job well done for Sucker Punch. I look forward to playing any future titles they release as well. Expand

It blends some of the best known features in the world of consoles and does it well. You have the rural climber aspects of games like Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed. You have the Force powers style of Star Wars games. As your character evolves you get in to rail grinding at high speeds like SSX and traversing city-scapes at high speed like in Mirror's Edge. You will even get an ability to semi fly after jumping. You fight gangs and bosses, and accomplish missions like in Crackdown. All of this in an open sandbox city full of unique looking and unique voiced citizens, who dynamically change their dialog and actions based on how you behave in the game. For example, if you are a champion in the city, and the people love you, they will seek you out to help heal those who have fallen. Cheer you on and give words of encouragement. Take pictures of you as you go about your task of making the city safe. You will get powers to aid and help the citizens of the city. The controls are tight and responsive. All you need to do is think it and your hands seemingly get you there with ease. Simply amazing how smooth and in control one feels when playing. Even things like finding collectables become fun as you get a radar that locates them (there are over 300), powers to help you get to them, and a reward of more power as you find them. The fighting is fluid. You can stomp a baddy fist to boot, zap him from mid range, blow them up with grenades, toss them like leaves in the wind, throw cars at them, deflect their own explosives back, or even slow down time and snipe them from afar. There is a lite cover system implemented as well. The story is told through missions, npc contacts, cut scenes, television news stories, outlaw radio stations and hacked communication dishes. Voice acting is superb and convincing. You actually like the guy you are playing, an important bond in any sandbox game. A must buy game for any video game fan of the above mentioned games. A very good start for a IP we are sure to see more out of. Some sort of territory war DLC add on would make this game complete. A rare 10 out of 10 from me. Expand

I like the controls. Climbing around the city is fun. The missions are boring and repetitive.

This game is absolutely awesome. Cole's powers, the way you play, the liberty you have to do things. Believe me, it's awesome.

Cole's powers are cool, the graphic novel cutscenes are stunning, the story is intriguing, and the city is alive.

Most importantly, the movement and combat mechanics are fantastic, while the firefights (and the starring role of electricity) are a true spectacle. In this game the city is both your playground and your plaything, and you'll feel like a bad-ass.

While not wholly original, the game's blend of open world ideals with superhero powers is done with a verve that’s unsurpassed, and the mesh of platforming and freeform combat is uniquely satisfying.
