Finally beat this game; and let me tell you, IT SUCKS. The concept and potential of this game are incredible, even the story isn't all that bad. The thing that destroys this game from the inside out is the difficulty level, and the fact that it takes itself to seriously. The dialogue animations are laughably bad, the voice acting is sub-par or average at best. The difficulty is unREAL. IFinally beat this game; and let me tell you, IT SUCKS. I'm assuming you have already read up on what this game is about, so let's get to it. First off the story in the game is the best superhero origin story I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing. Not just that, but the story is extremely good! Although the ray sphere and super powers part of the game is not realistic, the world's response is. The government puts Empire City into quarantine and people go crazy. Major gangs form, and crime is uncontrollable. The game's map design and story elements really shows how this is a broken city. The voice acting is superb, although Cole's voice is quite gravelly, but it's not that bad for the tone of the game. Cole's best friend Zeke is awesome comic relief, although later in the game there is a more serious side to his character. Other characters are also well done. The best thing about the story is it flows and develops well and everything is believable and makes sense within the universe.
The karma system is mostly black and white, but there are some realistic and hard choices, as well as some silly ones, like choosing what poster best represents you. Although karma affects the story it doesn't really affect the final outcome. By the way, (no spoilers) but that ending is the biggest and best twist I've ever experienced.
The powers are very fun and gameplay is always new and challenging. The upgrade system works very well. You can upgrade powers differently based on if you are good or evil.
The game is open world and is fun to explore and find collectibles, do side missions, and mess around. The game has a lot to keep you interested after you finish the story on each side.
The only bad things I can say about this game are the graphics aren't the best and I've experienced a lot of glitches. So, not much.
I'm not saying the game is perfect, no game is. I'm just saying this is the best game I have ever played and it is extremely well done. It is rare that we get games this good. It really disappoints me that these games don't have a bigger audience for how good they are.
Play this game. If you don't own a PS3, buy one to play this game!
    Good job Sucker Punch.

the aiming controls are awful and not very efficient, the enemies are just reskins of each other or defined by what weapon/attacks they use, the missions get extremely repetitive where you either escort prisoners, save or kill certain targets, race from point a to b, etc and no lie when i spent about 10 hours just on the first island and went to the second and it was so similar to the previous one i thought i was still there. Everything for me just got extremely repetitive, monotonous and tedious. sorry i really tried to like it, but just couldnt, the 2nd one far surpasses the original in every way.

Constantly spawning enemies instantly dodge your electrical shocks, so combat feels like the game is trying to resist its own mechanics in lieu of fun or challenging gameplay. Upgrades are just Metroid-vania type time wasters which don't really make your abilities more interesting, and progress on a two short trees based on your alignment. So, basically, the only choice you get, gameplay wise, is when to acquire your slightly upgraded abilities. Still, its a pretty fun game. Its just not something you'll want to spend a lot of time on. It plays like a mash between The Force Unleashed, Crackdown, and DC Online. The side quests are so bad, they might as well be MMO grind missions. I just found it to be a waste of time, and that the mechanics were designed to slow you down. Expand

The powers in the game make it great to explore the map, they are also a good fighting mechanic. The upgrade system makes you feel like you truly are an average person who is still learning how to use these powers. The moral choice system is also a nice addition as the story will have a different outcome depending on your choice of if you wanna be good and save the city or evil and bring it down. Minor complaints I found with the game. Maybe a glitch or two but nothing you won't look past or even notice at all. The game looks beautiful and feels alive as the people around you flee during your battles and notice you actions regardless of good or evil. The sound and voice acting is well done especially for the lightning effects. What was really well done was the way the story was told, this superhero/villain story is told in the form of comic book pages instead of actual cutscenes and I found that to be really cool. Overall, a must own console exclusive and a must play. Expand

InFamous may have some character inconsistency and the missions may be slightly repetitive, but it earns huge bonus points for having a creative premise, truly awesome abilities, fantastic gameplay and an unforeseen twist ending that pays off. For any Playstation owner, this is a must-have!

This was an awesome game when it came out in 2009. It was an excellent sandbox, with cool graphics, tight gameplay, and a cool story. The game did have some problems including some glitches and repetitive gameplay, but all in all it was definitely a good 15-20 hr time sink.

Graphics it had a cool artstyle with great looking character models, and the framerate was for most of the time consistent when things got really hectic during combat.

Gameplay All the controls felt good, during combat and roaming around empire city. The only problem i had was using the sixaxis during supermoves. Other than that the game had multiple side missions, along with main missions, and fun challenges. The only problem i had was that sometimes it felt like that a lot of the side content felt repetitive and rehashed.

Audio This was excellent, the music was perfect during combat, and the voice acting for cole was perfect. He had the gritty voice that help portray his character in a unique way.

Overall This is a pretty fun game, with some excellent level and free roam designs. Has a cool story with some cool graphics, and just running around the city being a superhero/ supervillian is a cool idea. The only problems i encountered were some repetitive side missions, and some inconsistent framerate when a multitude of things are happening on the screen, like multiple explosions.

Since the scoring on this website goes up bye 1s, i gave it a 9/10, but to me this game is more like a 8.75/10. Just some more polish and different side missions would have helped it to be a even better game.

    Good job Sucker Punch

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While waiting for the network closing in April of 2011 to end, Sony finally ended it two months later, and gifted players with two free games on the PS3. Of one of those two games, I got inFamous, a brilliantly engineered third-person shooter game created by Sucker Punch, the creators of the critically acclaimed Sly Cooper series. Using a unique style of influence (Karma) and the powers of electricity, protagonist Cole McGrath must figure out who gave him a mysterious package that decimated six square blocks of Empire City, and why he/she gave it to him.

One day, Cole McGrath had to deliver a package to someone who was somewhere in Empire City (a depiction of New York state), specifically in the Historic District of the city. When the package was opened was opened however, Cole was in for the biggest surprise of his life. The package opened with a bang; a six square-block wide bang, that is. An electric explosion rocked Empire City, causing six-square blocks to be completely levelled and utterly destroyed. The rest I won't spoil, except for one thing: Cole gains the power of electricity.

The gameplay mechanics of parkour and karma really help to drive the game towards perfection, even though the area does manage to attract Cole to everything he can grab onto (magnetizing ledges and such). The music (albeit boring after a short time, making you wish you could listen to your own music) is really good; making each individual track must've taken time and effort to help fit in with some of the situations in the game. Each area of Empire City is cleverly designed to challenge Cole with strengthening enemies and twists at every turn in the storyline. Overall, the game is great, but most games are better than their sequels; this game is no exception. 10/10!

In the story are many great missions which will take you across three islands of Empire City and ,not spoiling anything, the story has a huge plot twist at the very end. The cutscenes are cool, the way you see them in a graphic novel sort of feel. The only downside to this game is the graphics which were a bit disapointing for the time and the lip sync is a bit off. But even still to sum it up in three words YOU NEED INFAMOUS! I give this game a 9.7 for its gameplay, powers, story and cutscenes. What I do not like, is the idea of, essentially, TO NEVER LET YOU REST A SINGLE MOMENT OF THE ENTIRE GAME! I really...REALLY hated that the game won't let you rest a moment and enemies will keep trying to kill you over, and over, and over, and OVER again!!! I was almost killed right when I woke up at the hospital, and when enemies would die, more would appear to replace them! However it's a good thing that you can shoot at them from the distance even though the controls are bothersome, but won't take long before you get used to it. However...WHY NO ENERGY BAR?! The idea of not putting an energy bar wouldn't be bad if the enemies wouldn't keep stalking the hell out of you and give you no rest, especially since this game isn't an fps, but an action, and even if not a bad idea in total in this game just ruins the experience, because you'll NEVER know when you're going to die exactly, not because of the colors fading, but because you're not gonna understand how much damage you're receiving, and in an free-roaming action game that information might be useful. This might be more of a rant, but as I said I DID like this game a lot: the fact you're a superhero is great, the powers are great and splitted in good and evil trees, the controls are loose but works just fine. I really couldn't stand the constant fightings in the street and the senseless idea of not giving you an energy bar...and if the energy bar isn't that much of an issue, the enemies will still be an issue and even if you try to escape, they all seem to be sniping with their rifles (no kidding, their aiming is very precise: you'll take more damage on the air than being on the streets). Maybe it's just my bad luck and I'm very sorry I couldn't rate this game higher: if you can pass over the flaws this game is going to be a lot of fun, but if you can't well I say..."if I want constant fighting to upgrade my skills in order to go on with the story and fight better, I'll play an RPG". Who doesn't love to have the options of just going crazy on the baddies or the civilians/police.. and now we get to do it using the most electrifying moves ever invented. It takes a while to get all the powers, but that is when it truly gets entertaining. Having evil and good powers and endings make you want to play it over and over again.

This game is like a shooting game but with thunders instead of guns, way more interesting in my opinion. One of my favorites on ps3. The story has a lot of choices and the ending is pretty cool. The powers and updates were very useful and the bosses were challenging especially the last one.

I would say it it even better than Uncharted, because the world is much more open and you are free to go anywhere, as opposed to being limited to predetermined pathways (like in Uncharted). When inFamous started out, I was doubtful of what this game would turn out to be. Then as the story progressed I understood of why everything was happening and during the last cutscene, my mind was blown. It was genius. Anyways, without any spoilers, inFamous is a fun game as you take the role of Cole Macgrath and it is up to you to defend....or destroy your city. The choice is yours, have fun.

After all, justice wasn't gonna fight for itself. After having contemplated trading the game in a few times early on, the story eventually picked up and gameplay started to kick ass as I unlocked new mission types and abilities. I could air glide and sticky bomb mutant vagrants for days if I had to. The 2D watercolor comic cut scenes were wonderfully rendered , and helped create an atmosphere that appears as if it had been taken out of a genuine comic book. I'd buy a digital graphic novel version in a heartbeat. The story unfolds and concludes brilliantly, but I didn't care much for some of the supporting characters. Cole's GF was a **** and Zeke was a bag of douche, whose douchebaggery only intensified as the game went on. Voice acting was simply okay, save for Kessler's, who sounded delightfully ominous, calculating, and badass at the same time . While it starts off slow, InFamous doesn't take long to deliver and ends on a supremely satisfying note. It is the template most superhero games should strive for in the future. Expand

The story is rather subtle because, you know, it gets in the way of the ''blowing **** up'' part of the game. So what do you do the entire game? you electrify, fry and zap everything that's in your way. The missions are varied so you usually don't do the same thing twice. The dialog is simple enough and has it's charm. The comicbook style of the game is very cool and the characters are interesting. The fact that you can choose how to play the game(evil or good) isn't that importent, except that you get a few different powers and moves and the story barely changes. of course, it's stil a nice touch. The free roaming in the game is really fun and intuitive. I really think ''Sucker punch'' did a fantastic job with this game, just as they did with the sly games. A brilliant game that lets you choose if you want to be a hero, or one of the bad guys. The gameplay and the looks of the game are solid, and it is great fun to just walk/run/climb/hover through Empire City, whether you are saving or electrocuting its inhabitants in the process. Obtaining new powers is fun, and the XP system forces you to prioritize which you really need.

Minor faults haunt this game though. For weird reasons I randomly dropped through the level or was able to climb on unclimbable objects. It is also hard to feel real sympathy for the characters, as they are not quite recognizable.
Still, playing the game is great fun, and highly suggested if you own a PS3.

When I got this game over a year ago, I was amazed of what Sucker Punch would do other than another Sly Cooper. The pros of this game is the comic book type story, gameplay, and voice actors. Maybe a little late reviewing this as it's been out for a couple of years but I just picked it up on a whim from the PSN "Welcome Back" pack (it was therefore free, therefore nothing to lose). OK, lets start with the bad. It does look a little dated, the graphics are a little ill-defined and could use some better anti-aliasing. Some of the voice acting is a bit stereotypical/dodgy and sometimes the "grab onto anything" parkour movement system can be a little iffy, sometimes you can't grab something you want to because you miss by a half inch and sometimes, like when you're trying to dodge a bulletstorm by jumping off a roof... you'll grab an edge and end up full of lead.

HOWEVER, everything else about the game is brilliant - the parkour movement system (other than the odd foible) works very well, you can climb pretty much anything - you're a free-runner who can leap off tall buildings without suffering injury AND you can shoot "lightning bolts" out of your hands... what's not to love! So it's a little dated now, playability-wise it's probably still one of the best games going - it's just, well, fun - lots of fun. Definitely a game every PS3 owner should have - I'd give it a 95, closer to 10 than 9 anyway :)

One of the few superhero games, that actually made me feel all "giddy like a school girl". Infamous is also one of the few games that I replayed a few times, which I consider a shining recommendation of its brilliance.

InFamous is one of my all time favorites. It is a great break from boring and repetitive FPSs. First, the gameplay: new, fresh, fun, and dang enjoyable. From the protagonists, antagonists, and everywhere in between, the story makes you care about the characters and what happens to them. The plot has great twists and turns as you discover more about the world you, Cole McGrath, has been flung into. Sure there are a bit ends and odds that could be tidied up and a more innovative hand-to-hand combat system would be amazing, but this game bring the comic book genre into the new generation. A great game and a worthy buy. Expand

inFamous is an exciting open world game with a solid story, good moral choices that change the outcome of the ending, great controls, fun mechanics, and some good graphics. Some repetition does hurt the mission structure towards the end, and RPG enemies on hard difficulty are frustrating and tiring, but otherwise this is a great game that Playstation 3 fans should own!

Fun game to play. I liked this game a lot, finally a robust superhero game. Like most superhero games it gets old BUT, this is has the chance to choose whether to be a hero or a villain.

Infamous is a great superhero game. Just understand that you are designed hero. If you get that and you like electricity as a power then, this is the game for you, otherwise you will hate this game. Really it comes down to that.

The others are great in their own right, but if I had to choose one I'd go with InFamous. Incredible gameplay, great powers (wish for some more spectacular powers but that's just nit picking), great story and an amazing art direction as well. People compare Prototype and InFamous (and some throw Crackdown in there too) since they both came out around the same time, but they're both different games in how they handle and how they approach things and have positives in their own right. Infamous is very amazing and I for one cannot wait for InFamous 2 in a couple weeks! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A game that is throughly enjoyable from start to finish, no matter what path you choose.
In inFamous, you play a messenger known as Cole McGrath. After a freak explosion, which caused Cole to gain electrical related powers, you go on a journey throughout Empire City to find out the truth on why this happened to you. I really like the comic book layout when it is displayed through various cutscenes, as it gives a true sense that this is a 'superhero' kind of game. One of the main factors that I really liked was the whole Karma system. The Karma system throughout the game, is where certain decisions you make in the game, affect your appearance, the colour of your electrical powers and how characters react to you. Basically you can either be hated upon, or looked upon as a hero in the eyes of the stricken city. The Karma system gives more depth and realism to this sort of game. Instead of just being a straight forward game, where you just have to play as the 'hero', this game gives you the choice. You can help the citizens of Empire City or restrain or kill the citizens.
For all of you that have a Playstation 3, this game is a must buy.

The gameplay is tiring and repetitive, and the plot had no thickness to it that dragged me in and made me stay with this game until the end. Instead, I was sitting, regretting my purchase and wondering why this game had been given such high reviews. Cole's powers are cool, the graphic novel cutscenes are stunning, the story is intriguing, and the city is alive.

Most importantly, the movement and combat mechanics are fantastic, while the firefights (and the starring role of electricity) are a true spectacle. In this game the city is both your playground and your plaything, and you'll feel like a bad-ass.

While not wholly original, the game's blend of open world ideals with superhero powers is done with a verve that’s unsurpassed, and the mesh of platforming and freeform combat is uniquely satisfying.
