    VERY disappointing, glitches, bad art style/graphics, and lower frame rate on PS3 and Xbox 360 versions make this game a cliche'd crime story at best.

    I don't find this entertaining and fun. I don't mind the ability to steal cars and stuff but I don't know why it got 98/100 that is just ridiculous. But a game to keep in mind is....................WATCH DOGS!!! you can steal cars and hack and control literally anything! The game isn't out yet but it is definantly going to be better than this!

    I will not give a perfect score, because the graphics are amazing, the world is believable, the characters are perfect, but there are some problems with the game, such as driving, is a bit difficult to drive in this game, and once we got to the end of the game there are no activities to do.     The game is good I admit but its ower rated.. its not 10/10 game... you ahve a 4 city sandbox game with lot of things to do but the story line, the physics... They ruin stuff

    I guess for its time it was good but when other, better Rockstar Games release and they don't have a score close to this, you are going to have a problem. I don't really understand how this boring game got rated so high, games like Red Dead Redemption should have had this score. The DLC made this game 100 times better

Un mapa muy pequeño, gráficos que dejan mucho que desear, la jugabilidad es mala, no puedes hacer tanta variedad de cosas como en las anteriores entregas.     This particular GTA I found somewhat boring. The variety of things you can do is nice, but each mini-game is even more boring than the main game, which at least has some interesting aspects to it. I find the protagonist bland, and most of the supporting characters highly annoying. The story is lackluster, at least as much of it as I saw. I only got about 10 hours in before I gave up on the game.

    Here's hoping GTA V will hold my interest when it comes out on PC this January!    … Expand

    Genuine proof that Metacritic is bought and paid. How the hell did they earn this kind of rating for a GTA game? Not to mention this is undoubtedly the worst in a series that reached its peak with GTA 2.

    Worst game in the Franchises history. I was having fun for about the first 12 hours and then I got bored. I had to force myself to pick it back up just to beat it. NOTHING to do after the story mode, ZERO replay value.

    Twice i Have tried to play through this game and both times i have never finished it.
    This is one of those games that is just highly overrated and did not really leave me with much feelings besides negative towards it!

    Driving - was murky and shallow really not as fun as most open world driving games.

    Shooting - One of the biggest problems in the game aim was terrible the aim assist was always either good or extremely bad i mean its soo hard to free aim if you wanted to.

    Customization - Besides cars and clothing theres not really too much or at least anything really worth considering customizable

    Gameplay - I found missions to be mostly boring and a little too difficult (because of aiming) to be really enjoyable.

    My recommendation is if you have a ps3 still just get GTA V you dont need to suffer through GTA IV to play V    … Expand

    The terrible driving made the game unplayable for me. Worst GrandTheft Auto of all time. If your thinking of getting it just skip it for GTA 5 and you'll have a much better experience.

    As a kid this game was fun, going to a friends house, playing, shooting people, having all sorts of fun. At least, it seemed like it. Playing this game in the modern age shows that the game was amazing because it was innovative. And I respect the game for that. But the game itself aged very poorly. Aside from the (imo) average story, there is no fun to be had. Cars drive very clunky andAs a kid this game was fun, going to a friends house, playing, shooting people, having all sorts of fun.     Gràficament està molt bé, les animacions, la música, tot, tot molt bé... però amb aquesta merda d'historia, missions que la meitat no tenen ni cap ni peus, cinematica de 20 minuts amb converses de merda... no em va agradar gens, va ser acabar-lo i tornar-li al meu germà.

    For its time it was a very good game. Awesome graphics, fun physics, and it also finally includes an official online multiplayer mode. What was disappointing is that the map was not so big and that there were not even half of the weapons that GTA San Andreas had

    Overrated mindless games. GTA games always get positive reviews but I find them repetitive. Games like sleeping dogs were better than this.

    The game is decent at best this game definitely doesn't deserve to be considered the 3rd greasy game of all time and is judged out of pure nostalgia. the driving is ridiculously awful when it's supposed to be the keystone of the game. The story was dissopointing and the gameplay is sloppy and not fun.

    also if you die on a mission there are no checkpoints no health regeneration if you die you have to restart from the beginning man rockstar added some horrible gameplay mechanics in this one even sonic the hedgehog (1991) had checkpoints this game is game companies going back to horrid gameplay mechanics just to rush making a game so they can make millions and rockstar didnt even pay the actor of niko bellic he is the reason the game was popular but no they paid themselves millions and didnt pay him enough for his great contributions to this game. they did that with young maylay too the actor of cj from gta san andreas. this game was ruined by rockstar but the actors did great jobs.

    a gta game that i can stand is gta v which actually has checkpoints and health regeneration and it lets you skip a level if its too hard

    If you enjoyed previous GTAs, avoid this game at all costs. Its the complete OPPOSITE of previous GTAs, good graphics, boring storyline, dull characters, no variety in the gameplay,ect.

    I am extremely dissapointed with rockstar, the only reason it scored so high with the critics was because it happened to be the first next-gen sandbox game on the market, GTA4 has failed miserably.

    Not my favorite GTA game by miles but it is still top notch Rockstar quality. The game chooses realism over fun at parts which can be boring. That being said it's still a great experience.

Graphically the game stands out from any of its predecessors and the gameplay as you would expect from the GTA series is superb. There are a few minor glitches in the targeting system, some features taken out from previous versions but the greatness of this game hugely outweigh the flaws and ultimately doesn't stop Along with CoD4 and MGS this is a must have game for any PS3 owner.     What a useless piece of crap...was enjoyable for about 5missions! you can't by properties, vehicles are fairly limited over all and they mostly feel like you're driving the same thing.Graphics were crap.Sounds were crap. San Andreas was way better. Dont know why the critics thought it was so awesome.something tells me i won't be believing the "critics" anymore.

    Brilliant story, great characters, fantastic atmosphere but the RAGE engine definitely has its problems - most notably the framerate is absolutely horrible and IMHO almost never reaches 30 fps. The PS3 version lacks antialiasing (360 has 2xAA) which is compensated by some sort of blur filter which makes everything a little bit too muddy. It's definitely not deserving 100%.

    Online on PS3? Nope...haven't been able to get online since the release and my game keeps crashing. Why do PS3 games always screw up when they are first released. I am so annoyed i want to trade this thing in for a 360 or wii...

They all follow their preset formats. GTA takes on the form of yet another villain ariving in Liberty City. You get all the things you got before and even more. There's nothing really bad about this game. If A lot of people say that this game is a lot like all the other GTA in the series. But I ask you, is that not what all game series are are? From Tomb Raider to Duke Nukem to Fifa. They all follow their preset formats. GTA takes on the form of yet another villain ariving in Liberty City. You get all the things you got before and even more. There's nothing really bad about this game. If you've played the other GTA games then you have a fair idea what you have to do, if you have never played it before it won't take long to get used to it. What makes this one slightly better than any other titles of the same name, is that it's not based on forming a gang. Remember the last GTA you had to form a gang, and it was all typical sterotypical American Style Gangsters. Well it's not this time around. You are integrated slowly into the Liberty City UnderWorld of corruption. Doing menial tasks to begin with, but with the use of Email and Mobile phone you stay in constant contact for missions. You forge relationships between the characters and even get the choice now and then to eliminate some of them. You make friends, and this allows you a break from the missions by visiting strip clubs, bars (getting drunk), play pool, bowling, darts and many other activities. The shooting and cop chases are totally revamped. The characters are interesting and plausible. Why did I give it a 9? Well here's the thing, every game that I buy there is never any sort of young people, animals or anything in there. No dogs, no cats, no kids, nothing really. It's all the same characters from adults to oap's. Now I'm not saying that you should be able to hurt the dogs, cats, fish, kids etc. it would be nice to see them. Because I've never visited a city that didn't have them. That for me takes the realism from the story and the game play. I know it's petty, but this day and age it can't be that hard to program so alternate characters. In fact you don't see grave yards or anything like. There are freighters parked at the docks you can't steal. Planes at the airport you can't steal. It just seems to me that you're going to build a city then you make all the vehicles accessible. There isn't even any bicycles, skateboards or anything there. You can't walk down a street these days without seeing some kids skateboarding, in any country. So for me, it gets a huge thumbs up, but the environment is a little stale and could use a brushing up of characters, like kids, dogs, cats, fish, a stray bear, and how about some fish in that water, a shark or something would be interesting.… Expand

    The game is at first awesome and the content in the game is overwhelming. The missions are very well directed (Three Leaf Clover). The only downside to it is that it has a really slow beginning. I also would like my friends to call me less frequently (in the game :P) because somtimes they can get really annoying.

    This game has a lot of realism and makes the video game playing community take a real look at the series. Grand Theft Auto IV has become a next-gen game for a next-gen system. There are a lot of buildings that you can walk into like the previous games of the series, however the graphics and the modernization of the city very well makes up for this.

    What else is there to be said about this game? This game is just awesome. Taking a cab and enjoying the ride in the back seat, is one of the most realistic things I've ever seen on a video game. Fantastic game.

    I understand why all of the critics give it a 100, it reaches a new level of realism and immersion. They go so far beyond imagination in terms of detail. But sometimes I wish there was an off switch for that stuff. I shot the driver of a car in the face and stole his car, and the passenger waited until I made a complete stop do get out of the car! Also, the aiming mechanism is crap. No more going to the gym to work out and learn new melee moves, no more barbershops for different haircuts, tattoo parlors, no more vigilante missions, taxi cab missions, fire truck missions, house theft missions. However, if I wanted realistic driving physics in a video game I'll play Gran Turismo, not GTA4. The driving simply isn't as fun as it used to be. OK, so blasting through a police barricade at 150 mph and continuing on with barely a scratch wasn't realistic but hey, it was more fun than the overly critical driving controls in this game! Some of the games are downright undriveable and you'll find yourself desperately clutching any fancy, good handling sports car you come across. Speaking of options that have been removed from the series, NO MORE PROPERTIES! What am I accumulating all this money for? I can't own properties of my choosing, I can't buy businesses, what am I supposed to do with this fortune I've amassed. I can't get cool Fresh Prince haircuts, I can't get sweet Motley Crue tattoos, so what am I supposed to do with this money? There are no more gangs. Granted, it did occasionally get annoying having to be shot at whenever you entered a hostile area but I felt it did lend some character to the game. If you've been screwing the Triads over repeatedly throughout the storyline that it's only appropriate that their going to shoot at you when you roam around in their territory. Furthermore, it was always great running into your own gang members and watching them fight for you. No more of this in GTA4. Overall, I feel that the storyline holds up pretty well with the rest of the series. Niko and his brother are solid characters and the voice acting is also strong, although I don't think anyone will ever beat Ray Liotta in Vice City. You'll find yourself running up against some of the big cats in Liberty City and the cast of supporting characters also holds up well with those of the previous series. However, the entire friendship dynamic is implemented in a horrible fashion. You'll find yourself feeling obliged to go man-dates with certain characters just to keep their benefits going, such as postponing that retry of this mission you've been dying to beat so that you can drive halfway across the city to take your potsmoking Jamaican friend to Cluckin Bell so that he'll keep selling you discount weapons. Again, good idea in theory, but severely annoying when implemented in a lengthy game like this. Furthermore, the ability to use the internet and access the police database is really just a tease. Most of the internet sites consist of pointless drivel and you'll often find yourself mysteriously unable to access most of it. Another sadly implemented gimmick. I could go on and on about this game. Just for the record, I BOUGHT THE PS2 TO PLAY GTA. In my opinion each of the previous games had a separate strength, I felt the storyline of GTA3 was the best while the environment and world of Vice City excelled and the sheer scope and amount of various activities in San Andreas was amazing. I don't really see any areas in which GTA4 excels over any of its predecessors. All of those fun, albeit "frivolous" activities in San Andreas have been removed, Liberty City takes itself to seriously to be stir as much entertainment and nostalgia as Vice City and the story of a tough guy immigrant rising to the top still doesn't strike me as much as the silent protagonist of GTA3 battling for and against the Italian Mafia. Definitely a step back in the series.… Expand

    Graphically this game is leaps and bounds above San Andreas. But boy is this city devoid of anything to do. I had more fun buying property in Godfather's Don Edition. Money is useless in this game. There isn't any gambling, any dirty business with strippers, no racketeering, pimping, extortion (yeah one store with a rock in the window...) Kind of a bland morose city.

    Great physics and story. The RAGE engine is beautiful and the city is well designed. However, the gameplay lacked some key GTA elements, such as buying safehouses or businesses. The multiplayer wasn't implemented very well and the removal of ambulance & fire truck missions was very disappointing.

    Amazing game. So what if it's not perfect? People just give it low scores because they're afraid poor little children may be corrupted by it or because they think they're smarter than other reviewers. All of the websites and magazines give it perfect scores because it's perfect despite its few flaws. It is utterly amazing and totally realistic.

Having played all prior version of GTA i thought there could have been just a little more individuality to this one.     This is a good game for about a week since you have pretty much played this game before. Its the same thing if not less than the other GTA's. The thing is i hear critics raving about the story but the truth is you have heard this story in thousands of other places.     Decent but lacked the extra stuff that makes GTA so fun. I mean I was at like 800k$ when I finished the game because I simply could not find a way to spend it.

    This game is one of, if not the best, game I have played in my whole life. The car textures are great, there are a large variety of weapons, and can do whatever you want to do in the city of Liberty City.

    While I do not think this is the best game in the series, it is a very good game with an engaging storyline and memorable characters. The radio stations could use a lot of work as they lack a lot of the variety of San Andreas. As a matter of fact, the game lacks many aspects of San Andreas such as the large open world and variety of air vehicles. But in overall they maked the shootdowns better. graphics are better, and the overall is much better. but it still have some major bugs too like you get stuck on ladder where you need to restard the whole game so i give this game 8 out of 10 it is the game that everyone needs to buy. and in the end i just wish tho reach to inside the game. take that phone blow it up to million pieces and make it sure they will never have that phone thingy ever in gta series.… Expand

    this game totally sucks compared to other GTA's. the only thing better about it was the graphics. there's absolutely nothing to do before or after you finish the game, missions are boring and repetitive, and it has the worst story ever. They pretty much took out everything from san andreas that was fun and replaced it with some boring crap like internet or taking friends out. there's no more planes (one of the biggest problems) which meens no more parachuting, no more tattoos or haircuts, no more gang turf fights, no more jet packs, 4 wheelers, hovercrafts, or bicycles. i was also really dissapointed at how small liberty city feels compared to vast deserts and forests of SA, the only thing that made liberty city seem big were the tons of streets crammed into a little island. on top of everything else, (goes back to bad story) where the big finale at the end. where's my big mansion with a helipad and the feeling that i am in control of the entire city. GTA 4 pretty much just ends, with nothing that you didn't have at the beginning of the game except a measly 4 safehouses and a ton of worthless money. if rockstar plans on making all of the GTA's like this from now on then ill save my 60 bucks and go buy a game thats worth it.… Expand

Sadly, GTAIV only offers two tiny sets of weapons, a quarter of a page of cheats, which won't be that fun after a while. Lately I withdrew another point when I switched from a 29" SD CRT TV to a 37" full HD LCD TV. The graphics looked impressive in SD, because it blurs out all the little imperfections, but on a large full HD TV these become painfully easy to spot and the sum of them is quite detrimental. Shadows in particular are so badly made they look like something from a game made 10 years ago, and people, cars and buildings look so rough around the edges sometimes you'd think they were partly pixel-based.… Expand

    The words spectacular, jaw dropping, fantastic and breathtaking don't do justice to how great a game GTA IV is. GTA IV was make by 1,000 people at the cost of approximately $100,000,000 and the time, effort and attention to detail bleeds from this game. This is one game that will be spoken of in 20 years from now.

    The sheer amount of detail is stunning. The city looks really lived in. The dialog is sharp, witty and any minor flaws can easily be overlooked when considering all of the options available to the player. Easily the greatest game this generation and most likely the greatest game I have ever played PERIOD.

I expected a fantastic sense of humor, and was hit with a brilliantly insightful satire of American life. It truly rises above the notoriety of being an ultra violent cesspool of immorality that wants nothing but Beyond what I was expecting. I expected a great script, they include an incredible script.     Good game but nothing new that we haven't already seen before. People giving this game perfect scores are just hopping on the hype wagon. Graphically I find it quite poor compared to some PC games. The game suffers from extreme blur with the more distant objects and I expect was done to keep the frame rate up.     This is not a revolutionary game. Its simply the next installment of the GTA series. I guess I'm too old to get into this game anymore. Graphics are nothing special either.

    The graphics look good, but the gameplay is nothing i haven't seen before. San Andreas was a bigger step forward than this game is. For me, I regret to say, it's the most overrated game of the century.

Bottom line, all of this has been done before, just not in such a large, living city such as Liberty City. The storyline so far (3.5 hours in) is great. There's great action, the AI is right on, the sound is great, but ultimately it's nothing all that ground-breaking to warrant a I think a 100 score is a bit over-zealous and an effort to push the GTA series into the limelight. Bottom line, all of this has been done before, just not in such a large, living city such as Liberty City. The storyline so far (3.5 hours in) is great.     Great game, only a few things that bug me, one being the ragdoll effect when you fly out of a car, but everything else is awesome, online is fun, though it can be laggy.

    I give 8.8 to this game. The environment is awsome it makes me think: "wow, how did they manage to build an entire city with so much details?". But the game loses in gameplay. It's way too repetitive. "Go from point A to point B, get your mission, go from point B to point C, kill dude". I'ev played 40% of the game and I'm already tired of it.

    Truly worthy of the 10. This game defines the generation and what it is possible to achieve with current technology. Enormous draw distances, euphoria physics / AI, lighting, HDR.. etc. The works. At lets not forget that the gameplay is second to none Amazing!

The physics, graphics, and comedy are top notch, but compared to the last two console incarnations, GTAIV falls flat on its face.     The bad outweighs the good; poor quality graphics (for next-gen), appalling load times, crashes often, corrupts saved games, sludgy car controls, clunky character controls, multiplayer disconnects, and it takes too long to get to any gameplay. I envy the players who got past all that and managed to enjoy this shoddy game.

    I think that GTA4 will definitely be long remembered and is an instant classic. It is incredible and no 2 times playing it are the same.It's way better than GTA San Andreas, graphics, engine, sound, characters, story, excellent game must-have. Also, multiplayer is incredible, no 2 times are the same and more than a few multiplayer modes which all suit any type of player.

    Grand Theft Auto IV is not a perfect game, but it is fantastic through and through, from start to finish and beyond. It is so massive, vast and impressive that it is almost mind-boggling to imagine how much work must have gone into the game to come up with so much detail.
