    It is definitely the best game of the GTA series. Their physique, npc reactions, story, dark tone and setup make the player addicted.

    Best GTA if you care about the purity of the physics, literally best use of the Euphoria engine before they cut it down in GTA V. BEST cops in the GTA series to date, on how they act to what they say during chaos and ooooo so good and funny! Recommended. PC port kinda iffy tho with performance.

    Grand theft auto 4 is one of the best games I have ever played. I like the graphics, AI and physics. It is good but I think the game could have added a bigger and more diverse map like gta san andreas or Gta 5. I think it is the only flaw of Gta 4. I recommend you to try it because it has one of the best storyline ever.

    I played this game ages and ages ago because my friends told me that the character is based off of me my actual name is Niko I am a Balkaner adidas wearer so I played it for the jokes, but THIS WAS THE BEST EXPERIENCE EVER, only game aside for Red Dead 1 and 2 I cried at their ending. 10/ADIDAS for me.

    Usually when "Grand Theft Auto" comes out, it takes a good week or two for the initial "WOW!" factor to wear off. I purposely put off reviewing this until I had completed the entire game, because by then I knew I'd have some time to take it all in and form a more objective opinion.
    First of all, early criticisms included accusations that the game was "too short." Yes,    Warning: Spoilers
    Usually when "Grand Theft Auto" comes out, it takes a good week or two for the initial "WOW!" factor to wear off. I purposely put off reviewing this until I had completed the entire game, because by then I knew I'd have some time to take it all in and form a more objective opinion.

    First of all, early criticisms included accusations that the game was "too short." Yes, perhaps - if you rush through it over the course of a caffeine-enhanced weekend. For those of us with modest social lives and jobs who can't devote 12 hours a day to a video game, it'll take a while. I played about 35 hours before beating the "basic" single player missions - and I say "basic" because there's a lot more to do in the game once you've completed the main structure. I can still get in a cop car and chase down criminals if I want to, or perform assassinations, or find all the stunt jumps, or street race cars. It's quite limitless.

    But anyway, like I said - it took about 35 hours to beat the main structure of gameplay, which translated into a solid two weeks. It may be a tad bit shorter than "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" but I had so much fun I wasn't counting.

    The pros of the game are: better graphics, more realistic graphics engine and physics, better on-foot fighting/gunplay controls, more attention paid to the storyline and characters, and an overall more expansive universe.

    The downsides are: even though the controls for fighting are better, they still need drastic improvement; the whole "duck/dodge" thing is quite lame and doesn't work half the time. If you lock onto someone and try to lock onto somebody else instead, it doesn't work correctly - or fast enough. Sometimes during missions I'd try to lock onto the villain and end up locking onto a pedestrian further away. The "free aim" pressure sensitivity is also confusing.

    I do think there's a bit of contrivance towards the end of the game as well. I won't put any spoilers in, but suffice to say you're playing a fairly ruthless thug who has a heart compared to past GTA characters but nonetheless has no qualms with kidnapping a girl and referring to her in derogatory terms, or killing countless people, but is then expected to show more depth towards the end for a female character that is underdeveloped to begin with. I can understand what they were TRYING to do and I admire that, but they should have expanded the relationship between Nico and Kate before attempting to pull that off. Nico ends up coming across as something of a self-absorbed person at the end, because you have to wonder if the motivation for revenge is really because he cared about this other person or whether it's just because he wants to prove to himself that he has room to care about someone.

    Really, though, that's the only fault. The overall mechanics of the plot and the expansiveness of it all is cinematic and deeper than any other GTA game.

    The physics are far better than previous games which has caused some people to complain because they can't flip their cars a hundred times and keep driving, but I liked it. Liberty City is totally revamped and looks and feels like a real, living city - it's amazing. The attention to detail is quite impressive - non-characters walking down the street just start smoking cigarettes or drinking coffee. Sometimes as you pass by someone too fast they'll drop their bag of groceries or stumble over. I can't wait to see what a GTA game will look like in ten years' time.

    Too much has already been said about this game for me to add anything new or insightful, really, but I will end this by saying I disagree that it's "by far" the best game of the series. I love it about as much as I loved "Vice City," which was probably my favourite. It's hard to compare them because each has their strengths. I didn't like San Andreas quite as much as Vice City but even "San Andreas" had the benefit of planes and skydiving and bicycles which have been removed from GTA IV. But basically I think this fits in well with the others; it has enough advancements to be truly "fresh" while still providing the same dark humour and basic gameplay attributes of previous games. It's a solid addition to an already excellent franchise and just a lot of fun.    … Expand

    Such an underrated GTA game, the jump from GTA 3 to 4 was massive... can't wait for the remastered version of this game as long as rockstar doesn't get lazy like with the GTA trilogy.

They also dropped a ton of features, virtually no customization as far as clothes and cars. Another area that's seriously lacking in this vs previous GTA's is in the characters.     Grand Theft Auto IV is by far the most serious game in the series, even though it's not as over-the-top as the other games, I really dig the darker aesthetic this game has, and the music fits very well.

    The story is interesting and I really like how the game isn't all about "shooting people and having fun", instead it's a mature story about how awful the life of a criminal can be.     The gameplay is fun, there's not much action especially compared to the other games but it's still enjoyable.

    Overall it's just all around a great game and revolutionary when it came out.

    Unappealing Story, loaded up with so much **** it is insane, most certainly over hyped, fraterate issues (got the PS3 complete edition), put all the genres in the game and you get one giant mess of a game, I    Let me just say that this game has caused so much chaos irl, murders from kids, teens and adults to negatitive influcence on young minds like rap music and much more explicit things.

Also led future games of this monstoroity genre which is called open world, it certainly influenced a generation of new gamers. Thus helped with the decline of modern gaming, among the popularity of online gaming era the game does not deserve any awards and a complete joke. No good radio stations. Game Crashed more times than I can count. Killing all the pidgeons was a point of Insanity.

    GTA IV hat mir sehr viel spaß gemacht und die Geschichte hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Aus heutiger Sicht muss ich dem Spiel aber eine 8 geben, weil:
    Wenn man bei einer Mission versagt (was manchmal fast gewollt ist[man startet falsch herum mit dem Auto in eine Verfolgungsjagd, bis man gewendet hat ist vorbei]) muss man die Mission + den Anfahrtsweg komplett wiederholen. Wenn das mehrmals    GTA IV hat mir sehr viel spaß gemacht und die Geschichte hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Aus heutiger Sicht muss ich dem Spiel aber eine 8 geben, weil:
    Wenn man bei einer Mission versagt (was manchmal fast gewollt ist[man startet falsch herum mit dem Auto in eine Verfolgungsjagd, bis man gewendet hat ist vorbei]) muss man die Mission + den Anfahrtsweg komplett wiederholen. Wenn das mehrmals passiert ist das frustrierend.
    Außerdem wiederholen sich manche Missionstypen sehr häufig.
    Dazu kommen die Anrufe der Freunde zum Treffen. Man kann nur annehmen oder ablehnen --> warum kann man nicht einen späteren Termin ausmachen? so ist man häufig auf halbem Weg Richtung Mission und muss wieder umdrehen.
    ABER: Die Geschichte, die Optik und das grundlegende Gameplay sind wirklich spaßig, auch noch 2022.    … Expand

    GTA 4 is hands down my second favorite gta game right behind GTA sandandreas, and the first time playing it I just didn’t really feel the magic but as I got older, I loaded it up again and my god it was amazing. It’s not as like goofy as some of the others but that’s kinda what makes it feel more real and more intense. I can definitely see how some people would find it repetitive but like what I do is pretend I’m in this situation in real life and really grasp the feeling of the pressure these characters might be feeling and it makes the experience way more intense. There’s literally a mission where you are told to plant this truck in someone’s garage but then you get a phone call and are told that the truck is rigged with explosives, so now imagine your doing that in real life like that’s some intense **** It’s definitely a pretty mature game which is probably why some people choose to put it down but when you look at it (or any other video game) like this it’s a whole new experience… Expand

    Despite the fact that this game is far from being from the GTA saga, I really think it is a good game for its characteristic atmosphere and the depth of the character, for a 2008 game it has good physics and two equally good DLCs.

    For me, this game didn't add anything to previous titles except for a new storyline. Didn't find that storyline engaging at all and barely played this title compared to the others. Would've thought this was an excellent game if I'd never played the others

    11/10 Must play, best game of the PS3. This game contains very realistic mechanics. It's very advanced for its time. For a 2008 game, the physics are very well developed, and overall the game feels very realistic. Everything about it feels like that, from the city ambient to the NPC's interaction.

    O game envelheceu mal, comparado ao GTA 5 no quesito diversão ele fica pra trás, em questão de mecânicas e físicas pode até ser bom, mas muito realismo em games pode ser um tanto chato, em fim, na época que lançou talvez tenha sido algo que impressionou bastante a Crítica, mas hoje em dia vemos o quão envelheceu esse Game.

    The most underrated Grand Theft Auto game of all time. People would argue that the game isn't underrated though since it's the joint 2nd highest rated game in Metacritic's history but in terms of the user reviews, they don't believe that this game shouldn't have as high of a rating that it does which I can see to an extent.     It may not be the best gta game but it is one of the best games I have ever played. Its got great graphics, great voice acting, so many memorable characters, good sound track, good realistic driving physics and one of the best stories I have ever seen in a videogame.
    But that doesn't mean the game doesn't have problems. Sometimes the framerate drops when the action gets too explosive, so    It may not be the best gta game but it is one of the best games I have ever played. Its got great graphics, great voice acting, so many memorable characters, good sound track, good realistic driving physics and one of the best stories I have ever seen in a videogame.
    But that doesn't mean the game doesn't have problems. Sometimes the framerate drops when the action gets too explosive, so many nice features from San Andreas and other previous gta games have been removed, its smaller than San Andreas and once you have finished the game there aren't a lot of fun activities to do but once you are in this situation you can always have fun with your friends using online multiplayer(just check out KYR Speedy's videos on youtube).
    My verdict is that even though its different from previous gta games its still a great game for current gen because of its graphics and physics but don't go into this game expecting it to find features from other gta games just play to experience the thrill of playing a gta game on a new gen of consoles.    … Expand

The game is old by now and yes it shows, looking at the graphics, but it doesn’t matter because what they lack in detail they make up for in composition and general stylishness.     This game is the game that brought me back to video game playing. It is completely immersive and stands the test of time. It is a must own and must play. After 4 playthroughs, I am still not bored at all. It is such a good game that even adding your own music and just driving around the city is fun.

    A game with an interesting plot, colorful characters, a great atmosphere that lasts until the end. There are disadvantages, for example, soap graphics and the length of the plot, but as for me, they are tolerable against the background of the advantages. I advise everyone to pass the game, a great start to the HD GTA universe!

    If you enjoyed previous GTAs, avoid this game at all costs. Its the complete OPPOSITE of previous GTAs, good graphics, boring storyline, dull characters, no variety in the gameplay,ect.

    I am extremely dissapointed with rockstar, the only reason it scored so high with the critics was because it happened to be the first next-gen sandbox game on the market, GTA4 has failed miserably.

    It's OK...the game is fun, with a lot of action and a world full of things to do. The story is good but the characters are lame. The interactions of Niko with his friends, family or pairs never feel real. Niko is like a robot that only kills for money. Personally I experienced some serious bugs in very important moments of the game, wich is very annoying.

    This is arguably the greatest game ever, with arguably the best main character ever. Highly recommended to anyone that hasn't tried it yet. Holds up exceptionally even today

    the first hour was good but then they give us obnoxious characters which give us obnoxious missions notably elizabeta and brucie kibbutz the writers who thought they were good choices to add to this game is beyond my understanding also if you die on a mission there are no checkpoints no health regeneration if you die you have to restart from the    i like it and hate it

    also if you die on a mission there are no checkpoints no health regeneration if you die you have to restart from the beginning man rockstar added some horrible gameplay mechanics in this one even sonic the hedgehog (1991) had checkpoints this game is game companies going back to horrid gameplay mechanics just to rush making a game so they can make millions and rockstar didnt even pay the actor of niko bellic he is the reason the game was popular but no they paid themselves millions and didnt pay him enough for his great contributions to this game. they did that with young maylay too the actor of cj from gta san andreas. this game was ruined by rockstar but the actors did great jobs.

    a gta game that i can stand is gta v which actually has checkpoints and health regeneration and it lets you skip a level if its too hard

    That game on 2008 maybe not so good in graphic but in and not so many have costume things like San andreas but much better story and so many work in details and very very good game in levels designing and that power of rockstar and I realistic cars physics!

More than a video game it's like experiencing a movie, excellent story, main character has depth, a degenerate society masked by glamor , they think that where they go will give them many choices, but actually there is not choices, If there is a choice, they are all trade-offs. The nature of American society through a satirical perspective. Graphics very nice,colors create sadness, the color is a bit cool fit for story, perhaps RS wants players to feel the same way with Niko. Gameplay exciting. Mission story, ramdom charter, side game, all very good. Many people are not satisfied with GTA IV, I started playing GTA Vice City first and then GTA SAN, GTA IV and V. The theme and the tone of the game was dark. It gives you choices, like life gives you, questions your morality and doesn't justify crime.

    whilst the driving and the shooting mechanics aren’t the best the overall experience cancels this out with an amazing story, great characters and atmosphere, it has 2 DLCs that bought back what the original game was missing such as tanks. The game also offers an online mode, despite the main mode being the single player story mode, it provides a way to experience the world with other people. Overall glitches aren’t too common and on a PS3 the game runs quiet well. There’s also a fun unpatched glitch where you’ll be able to to launch things (including yourself) off a swing… Expand

Playing this game in the modern age shows that the game was amazing because it was innovative. And I respect the game for that. But the game itself aged very poorly.     Me encantó, probé GTA III (8/10) GTA SA (8.9/10) GTA VC (8.5/10) GTA V (9/10) y debo decir que este juego lo considero como el mejor juego de la saga ya que se siente fresco. La historia, mecánicas, jugabilidad, música, etc. se sienten frescos y renovados. La historia la considero exelente ya que a diferencia de las otras entregas, no hay explosiones por todas partes y acción frenética.Me encantó, probé GTA III (8/10) GTA SA (8.9/10) GTA VC (8.5/10) GTA V (9/10) y debo decir que este juego lo considero como el mejor juego de la saga ya que se siente fresco. La historia, mecánicas, jugabilidad, música, etc. se sienten frescos y renovados. La historia la considero exelente ya que a diferencia de las otras entregas, no hay explosiones por todas partes y acción frenética. Las mecánicas y jugabilidad hoy en día pueden llegar a ser estresante, pero benefician a la estética, ciudad e historia. Posee uno de los mejores catálogos de música y se me pegó la "The Soviet Connection" sin embargo no supera a las radios como la de Fallout 3. La ciudad a simple vista es realista pero de vez de en cuando la inmersión se destruye completamente con cosas como los bomberos que prácticamente no sirven para nada o los npc que no actúan cuando te ven con un RPG. La optimización es una mierda eso sí (en ps3)

Sure, at the start it feels kind of repetitive, but that's exactly how the game wants to express the fact that there is no difference between his life in LC, and his life during the war.     Grand Thef Auto IV has the best story of all gta games. Atmosphere is very dark and very dirty. Physics and mechanics are really good for 2008 year.
