It's graphically quite beautiful, and the exploration plus both forms of combat really open the game up. I like using both combat systems, and while the level designs were lacking on DA:2, I was one of the people that loved that game (so you know where I'm coming from), mostly because the combat for playing a rogue was much improved upon Origins' terrible AI movement.

I was actually surprised by how quickly the story and motivations pulled me into this game. I shouldn't have been; BioWare is fantastic when it comes to characterization and story. Regardless, this game achieves one of those very hard things to do that so many other games I play fail at: it makes me forget I'm playing a game. I'm so absorbed in every aspect of it. It's completely engrossing, and transports me into the world of Thedas. This is, quite frankly, an RPG after my own heart. It's easily the best installment in the Dragon Age franchise, and one I'm far more likely to replay for that very same reason.

If you are an RPG fan, you owe it to yourself to give this game a real shot. I honestly can't believe why there are so many negative user reviews. People are too angry and bitter and their venom shows. 0/10? Really? That is not an honest assessment.

Inquisition easily makes it into my top three RPG video games of all time, and for that reason I'm confident to give it 10/10. Not to 'balance the negative reviews', and not to say that any game is ever truly perfect (there's always room for improvement), but because it delivers in spades everything I love about RPG games and rich storytelling.

Negate the hate! Do what you love.

The overhead tactical is very welcome, though disappointing that you have a clear required distance before you're capable of availing of it for attacks with ranged characters. Happy you're not forced to choose a certain race character. My only issue is with on-line use. The game can drop framerates, and get a bit unreliable if you're playing online as the game constantly attempts to access the Keep. It would be nice if Bioware had made Keep access occur only on saving so as not to interfere with gameplay.

That said however, this game is a fantastic game and well worth the expense, with the caveat that this game is far more open-world RPG than it's predecessors meaning that if you don't like walking and exploring or collecting, this game is likely not for you. If you're a completionist who really enjoys as much game for their money as possible, this is a perfect game for you. If you're an RPG enthusiast this is a prime purchase with hours and hours of entertainment.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I seriously don't understand why people are giving this game poor ratings. Bioware released two patches to fix issues on the consoles and on the PC, so please try them and see how you like it. I haven't had one single issue since playing on PS3. This game is huge and by huge I mean lots of areas to explore, lots of side quests, etc. I am currently just in the Hitherlands area and I'm taking my time, and I can tell you Ive put so many hours into this game and I haven't even completed all side quests. There must be hundreds of sidequests in this game. I like the way everything is set. Characters are easy to control and equip, upgrades, etc. Since playing on ps3, I've seen the graphics look very realistic, haven't noticed any glitches in this game yet. All the complaining people should download the two latest patches and try again. You won't be disappointed. This game looks realistic and so do the characters. The fighting is awesome. This game is a lot harder than the previous two games. This game also combines everything into one from the previous two games. You feel like you're playing the first one because you travel all over the wilderness fighting bears and yes bears will attack you, and you feel like youre playing the second one a bit, so it just combines everything from the first two. I'm having fun completing side quests. I don't know whether or not I will find everything I need to complete them because the environment is very huge! Thanks bioware, looking for some cool DLC Expand

I usually like medieval rpgs and this was no exception, I liked this game more than past dragon age games altho they were really good too, even liked it more than skyrim or Diablo 3, I heard this game is a completionist nightmare full off simple and boring fetch quests, but considering I am not a completionist, I just did the quests that seemed interesting to me and ignored what sounded boring, also read about all the complains on glitches, most of those are patched by now, the game played swiftly for me, no bugs, rarely any lag, this game was overall about 60 hours of fun for me, and I am considering a second playthrough which is extremely rare for me, I usually just finish a game and trade it or sell it. Bioware knows how to write interesting characters. Dorian, Solas and Iron Bulls back stories and story lines are very interesting and well told. For comedic relief you have Varric, Sera and surprisingly Cassandra at some points. The side quests / activities are mostly fun and add value to the total experience. The battle system works well but it is not as tactical as in Dragon Age Origins. It may be a disappointment for some people. The war table is a welcome addition. It provides missions which will be done by your advisors (mainly their subordinates). The outcome unlocks loot, new quest or knowledge. On the other side you can also unlock new missions by exploration of the areas, talking to npcs or making decisions. The crafting system in this game is also really well done. You collect various raw materials for example leathers and ores and combine them according to recipes to new weapons and armors. Each material has individual effects that boost abilities or add effects. You can also add runes and/or other materials to armors and weapons to increase stats or add effects. For potions and traps the game lets you increase the duration, the effects or add complete new effects. The graphic is fine for me it is not awesome but there is beauty in the game. The soundtrack is as in each Dragon Age game fantastic. It is fitting from beginning to end. Now I will answer the question why I did not give 10/10 points. There are some bugs in the game. I had total freezes and must total reset the game approx one time in 8 hours play time which also erased my save file twice (and I also lost some trophies I had before). Also the game starts a bit too slow / unimpressive until you reach a certain point. The characters are also unimpressive until the story (and their side stories) gains momentum. Don’t get me wrong. The characters are fantastic but it takes a bit too long until they get really good (There are many people that will say the characters / party are garbage because of this) Total rating would be 9,4/10. Overall it is clearly a must own game for me and worth the money. I hope there will be expansions and new content in the future. Expand

However the story is pretty engaging, everything is centered around you and you take direct impact in the plot, character are pretty unique (with several returning back) and are various, the beginning is just the worst part of it as you are weak and pretty helpless with out a party, but later on as you level up you get cool unique armor and equipment with new abilities making some battles easy others not so much. Speaking of the start: at first your put on a few linear objectives and guided by allies to do a thing, however a little later the entire world opens up to you as you're able to explore variety of landscapes, at first this is very overwhelming as you don't really know where to begin but the game does some what guide you through making it so several areas difficult so that you know what areas to explore first and then explore later. As for the quality of the game it's not so well at least of last gen, though this only hinders the experience slightly I recommend getting the PS4 version, as the PS3 (and 360) version is somewhat buggy with some quest breaking bugs causing me to either comeback to the quest another time or reload a save. I highly recommend this game to anyone who has a lot of time on their hands, anyone who buys this game but has a tight schedule so only like 1 or 2 hours of game time is a fool; the game demands patience and exploring, as such trying to run through it will hinder your experience. The best thing of this game for me it was the explorations, the game has 10 GIANT areas, where there are plenty of things to do. The combat was also amazing i always used the 2 cameras, the tactical camera to send orders to my companions and then i changed to the "personal" camera with my inquisitor to see the suffering of my enemies more closely. The subclasses are also very good (the tempest is epic). The graphics are also very good, of course the next gen versions have better graphics, but that was obvious from the start, areas like fallow mire, emprise du lion, or hissing wastes look gorgeus on the ps3 version, the unique area where the ambients could have been improved on the ps3 version was hinterlands, the first area. The scores isn't a 10 because there are some cutscenes where textures pop in after a few seconds, but still the game is really good, even on old gen versions, do not be afraid to purchase the ps3 version of this game ;) Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Bioware rightfully made the best fantasy game only beat by Skyrim. The real draw of this game is Character customization, choices, and discovery. I always love creating a female character and this game doesn't disappoint in that respect unlike Fallout 4 for example. Inquisition still has the best dialogue system and the most decisions out of modern games. So the only competition in that respect is between well, previous Bioware titles and Telltale Games. However, most choices don't have a big enough impact. No matter who you choose, Templars or Mages, you'll still have to defend Haven from the forgettable villain. I understand that part is critical to the story but Bioware has given much more weight to choices in the Mass Effect series
. But Skyhold really is a big improvement over the Normandy. The world is plenty big and the highlights visually are the houses in the Emerald Graves, the Eleven temple in the end, and the sand dunes of the Western Approach(beat Elder Scrolls to the punch). Due to the leveling and weapon damage system, enemies had to have large health bars to make the former mechanics work. There is no point in getting a better weapon if the Red Templars succumb to one or two hits. This makes encounters long and less fun. Dragons take so long to kill.
Only at the end does the story get intriguing. This is mostly thanks to Morigan(who I kept thinking was the villain due to the reveal trailer) and the Elvin lore.Since that I was eager to make progress in the game, I skipped most of the cutscenes, dialogue, and books;something I usually don't do.It ended up cutting my playthrough in half(about 50 hours instead of the average 100+)
In a world where Gods and magic exist, religion stills gets thing wrong. Something I only realized towards the end. Not that they were morally wrong(the chantry is clearly the old christian church and a lot of it draws inspiration from the real world) but that it's not certain who these gods were as Mythal turns out not to be an Elvin god but Morigan's Immortal human mother. And there isn't proof of the maker or the Old Gods existence. The only interesting part of Coryriphius (spelled wrong) was when he mentions that the thrones in the heavens were empty. That mystery definitely will be explained in future games.
The end seems to point towards a Grey Warden civil war being a plot point for DAV. It really sucks that EA most likely took the real ending and released it as the Trespasser DLC only for current-gen. That will probably stop me from playing it as I played it on the 360 and will likely get a PS4.
So the near future for Bioware is Andromeda. Something that is taking far too long to make. Is it going through development hell? Almost. Bioware is trying to make a far more ambitious game than Mass Effect 3. But here's the problem. This is in terms of content, not substance. Clearly the scale of this game is whats being built upon. And in my opinion thats a bad thing. Inquisition would have been significantly better in terms of story, pacing, and level design if Bioware didn't try to compete with the sheer size of Skyrim. Either way, I'm almost certain that Andromeda will be a great game:)

I see that the PS3 version of this game is getting very mixed reviews, with people either rating it very high or very low. I wanted to weigh in to help people who haven't made the transition to the new gen systems with their decision about buying this game.

First, I will point out the negatives of the game. Obviously, the graphics are no where near as strong as the new gen versions.

That being said, I still really enjoy the art direction in the game and I found myself still feeling very immersed in the world of Thedas. I would say that the reduce graphics in the game are not a deal breaker if you are more about story and gameplay than graphics.

I have had the game freeze up on me a few times. I have put about 25 hours into the game thus far and it has frozen up on me about six times. It is annoying and frustrating, but it is also something that is not uncommon for a PS3 open-world rpg. During the majority of my playing sessions, though, I have had few technical issues.

Now for the positive. The game is huge. There is a ton to do and explore. I have found all of the areas in the game to be interesting and full of enjoyable quests, as well as having lots of things to find through exploration.

I have really enjoyed the story of the game thus far. The breadth of side quests can cause you to easily ignore the main story for long periods of time, which can make it feel a bit disjointed. I have found that I really enjoy exploring the relationships with my companions and doing the side quests related to each of them. Getting to know all of them really enriches the experience of the main story, in my opinion. It makes you care more about the events in the game.

The combat is also very enjoyable. I like that it brings back some of the tactical elements of Dragon Age Origins, while maintaining the more frantic pacing of Dragon Age II battles. The one thing that I have found a little annoying is the mixture of leveled enemies in each area. It is frustrating to be wandering through an area, easily dispatching enemies at a lower or equal level to you, and then suddenly coming across enemies several levels higher than you. This has caused me to flee in terror from more fights that I care to share.

Dragon Age Inquisition is certainly not a perfect experience on the PS3, I will be honest. However, I have found that I am able to overlook some of the technical and graphical issues to see the solid game at its core. I am a more casual, adult gamer, who has yet to upgrade to the current gen systems. I have found that the game has more than met my needs and I do recommend it to other longtime Dragon Age fans.

You are the “accidental” savior of the new world, sent about to fix the problems of all those you run into. This includes everything from the mundane (collect X of plant A and X of plant B), to the true-to-life and believable (help stabilize the region and give it’s people protection and peace to gain XXX new ability/unlock), to the absolutely amazing and unique!

    Graphics – 6.0/10

I honestly feel bad giving a game of this type of quality such a sub-par graphics rating. All the signs of greatness are there. The game has (had) great lighting (kindof), the game has (had) advanced physics effects (sortof), and the models for all the weapons and armor are top notch (kinda sortof mostly), but when it comes down to brass tax, is there ANY excuse for the war-paint on my main character’s Quinari face to look like a blurry smudge from a PS2 game with jagged edges from a Tetris game? I certainly think not.

The game itself from an environment perspective is respectable. Despite the long load times, and they can be a bit too long at times. the game does a great job of rarely ever having to load after being in what is to be considered a “world area”. The game pre-loads everything from the start based upon where you are going, but does struggle to keep up in a number of situations. Large battle scenes really make the PS3 stretch itself to its limits, along with sudden changes of environments and large numbers of spells and graphical effects going off all at the same time.

All in all, the Graphics are decent for PS3 game that was clearly designed for the PS4. There numerous issues with pop-in textures, low-res models, frame-rate lag, and other visual glitches, but overall, the core of the game is generally unaffected, and once you move past these, the game itself is still quite impressive.

    Audio – 8.0/10

Voice acting on this game is top notch. Every character has a voice their own, and even the NPCs, even the ones that you just pass up as “oh that’s blahblahblah who sells me potions” has a back story all their own, and is interesting to talk to. Nearly every character that you run into, even the random NPCs with conversation selections options are voiced.

Overall, this game provides an excellent score of music, with varied and diverse soundtracks for every area in the game, swinging from the pulse pounding drums when a boss crashes onto the screen, to the slow cry of the clarinet as innocent lives are lost by uncontrollable events. Just be aware that as mesmerizing and as inspirational as these moments can be, no situation is safe from the mess of potential glitches that lie in wait.

Controls – 6.0/10 to 9.0/10 (depending on your skill and battle planning)

The game is streamlined with the “casual” everyday player in mind. For those of you looking for more of a challenge fear not! Dragon Age: Inquisition offers you what I like to call the “overlord” mode (sorry I don’t remember the proper name for this). With the push of a single button, the “overlord” mode zooms you out to an overhead view of the battlefield, offering you the ability to control every facet of the battle. With this you can queue up attacks between some or all of your party members, choosing exactly where and when they will be using what specific skills. To accomplish this to the best of your ability, Bioware has introduced a new real-time “fast-forward” button while in this mode, allowing you to see how events play out after you have issued your orders, but also going to back to a pause-state the second you release the button.

    Gameplay – 9.0/10

Simply put, this game puts it all it offers into a (bitter) sweet package for its control scheme, but for all its faults, it turns up on top at the end of the day. As far as controls go, the menus can be a bit of a monster to deal with (on console). The over-world maps are what you will be using the most while traversing areas, and related quest menus are thoughtfully bound to the D-Pad menus and easy to access maps are available without frustration or lag.

    Summary: 7.0/10 (PS3)

Overall, Dragon Age: Inquisition provides an immersive world with multiple branching storylines, with extensive play time per playthru at 50+ hours, and that’s if you’re rushing. Most players will spend 80-100+ hours per ONE playthru, and if you gauge games like I do on a $$$ per hours played, this is a definite buy. From my perspective, this was a PS4 gem scaled down and made available to the PS3 masses, but as such, suffered massive setbacks. The game still has massive play value, and even offers story-line carry-over from previous Dragon Age titles.

It's much more open world then the last and gives you fairly big ares to explore with your party. The combat is a great mix of fast paced action and strategic planning, with some fights forcing you to quickly change who your playing or send out orders. The amount of dialog between characters is astonishing and there is multiple ways most situations can play out and endings to the game itself. You'll find yourself playing through more then once just to see how it all can end.
The Multi-player feature to this game is amazing and I find it very fun even more if you have friends to play with. The game-play in Multi-player reminds me of the Baldur's Gate series which I also enjoy a fair amount.
Any fan of RPG's or the Dragon Age Series should take the time to play this installment of the franchise and experience it's story telling and vast world for yourself. Don't forget about "DragonAgeKeep.com" witch allows you to build a background story to Inquisition and shape the world you play in.

Its broken and unplayable Expand

It feels like Dragon Age II combined with a poor imitation of Skyrim. The story would have been more interesting if the main quests weren't so spread out. Most of the side quests aren't really interesting on their own or relevant to the story but I have to complete some of them anyway to earn more Power so that I can get back to the main story.

One of the main issues with DA2 were the re-used environments but Dragon Age: Inquisition has a different problem. Many of the areas are now so big that the rest of the game can't keep up. There's just not enough interesting things in these areas. Once you've seen 25% of the Hinterlands you've seen it all.

The party members are all interesting in one way or another. However there seems to be a bug that stops banter between party members from triggering. This meant most of the random conversations they had with each other while travelling didn't happen in my experience.

Another change in DA:I is that there is no longer any music outside of the main quests. So battles and travelling around now occur in silence with the exception of the various combat sound effects. Auto-attack is also gone and the Tactics system from the first two games has been reduced to only a handful of options.

It's not a bad game but to me it feels like it only won so many Game of the Year awards due to a lack of competition at the time from other games in the same genre. It seems like the Dragon Age series is trying to get as far away as possible from the things that made the first DA game a good single-player RPG. DA:I should have focused on the strong points of the series rather than trying to be more like other games.

Looking back after completion, this game was all filler and meaningless fetch quests that had zero impact on anything. The world was big, but felt so empty, like an mmo with no one else playing. I feel they wanted their version of Skyrim, but completely missed the point. Instead they made their own Kingdoms of Amular, hell even the villian was similar. Bioware's writing is getting awful.Looking back after completion, this game was all filler and meaningless fetch quests that had zero impact on anything. They won't fool us again, hopefully. I feel overall it was a step sideways from Origins rather than the step forward we wanted. Expand

I'm really disappointed with how they made DAI on PS3. I know this is old gen but they could at least do better. So many bugs, glitches, texture pop in, clunky UI, delayed texture loading and not to mention the constant frame rate drop and lags. THOSE SHINY HAIR, SHINY LIPS and SHINY ARMORS are hilarious. Did i tell you how stupid the loading time is? How can you enjoy a game like that? They're so many open world PS3 games out there that don't have all of this problems all at the same time. It's like they didn't bother to put more time to test their game. No game is perfect I get that but I wish they could've done better. This is after all their top AAA game this year. So we're just going to wait for their patches and update right? I'm sick of this habit from game developers.

Positive: I like the Create you character and race mode, decent amount of choices. The story and characters are good and enjoyable. That combat and skill tree is good. The maps are nice (that's why I'm disappointed by how they treated this game on ps3), great content, so many side quests and collectibles to get, the music is really nice, and they put so much effort on the Lore and Codex. I love the recurring characters too. So yeah these are the things that prevented me from giving this game a lower score but still very disappointed because the game is great but they just didn't give it more time and attention to polish it.

I actually liked most of my companions and the opportunities to talk with them and others in the world. Though, considering how long playthroughs can take on this game, you can run out of new conversations with your companions far too quickly after each major world event. There are some amazing places to explore, and some of the screencaps for the game are quite beautiful.

Sadly, on the PS3, some of the beautiful graphics my friends have shared in pictures and vids just aren't there. I couldn't look at a character in the game or a landscape and mistake it for anything but a video game, unlike those with PC, XBox One, or PS4. And I expected that, given I'm on an older system. There are also a lot of graphics bugs, even the occasional blocky character that makes me think I've picked up an original PS game and Crash Bandicoot or Spyro would be making an appearance.

Unfortunately, I'm a completionist, and this game is a completionist's nightmare. It's been said in other reviews, but after finishing the game with dozens of simple fetch/find quests under my belt, I felt like Bioware hadn't really respected my time by offering interesting quests to fill in the space between the plot.

I am not a diehard fan of Skyrim (though also find it to be a good, if not great, game). I frequently get bored with the game only to pick it up again a month or so later, but I can give that game credit for giving lots of interesting side quests. Sure, there are plenty of fetch quests, but it also provides you with interesting dungeons, dealings with that world's gods, a drunken night you must piece together "Hangover" style, and guild quests to allow you to really roleplay your character outside of the main plot. So many of the quests that did not relate to the plot or to my companions in Inquisition were forgettable or, worse yet, memorable for being annoying, like scouring a region for that 12th mosaic piece only to find out that your only reward was a codex entry and minimal experience.

I love Dragon Age: Origins and even respected a lot of Dragon Age 2, though that game could have been a few thousand of times better with another year's development. Extra development might have gotten us some other environments rather than reusing the same areas over and over. So, I felt Inquisition was pretty mediocre in comparison to its predecessors.

I have played every possible outcome in both Origins and 2, and immediately after I finished each for the first time, I wanted to start up a new game, and often did as soon as the credits closed. When Inquisition ended and I thought about the questlines that had bugged that I never got to do (Dorian's personal quests in particular, which I have been told are some of the best companion quests), the bugged trophy that is keeping me from a complete set, and the fact that to complete these things will require starting over... I groaned. I wasn't excited to play again with a qunari mage or dwarf rogue rather than a human warrior to see how different it makes the game like I did with Origins or even the different classes/genders in 2.

And for someone who buys few games but repeatedly plays the ones she has... that's a problem.

I want to love this game, but I just don't. And from any other company but Bioware, I would be a little less harsh on it Unfortunately, they've set the bar so high that it's maybe too much to live up to.

It wasnt one of the best games i played but still enjoyed fast walktrough. It was the first DA game i played so it took me a little bit longer to catch the story but as i said i enjoyed it.
