It's a shame because I wanted to get know the cute character I had created (that why it gets a 2) but sadly I had to leave her. The quests are dumb, the tactical camera is a joke, the crafting is tedious, the sound is off in spots, etc. It's like Bioware simplified the important parts of DA and made more difficult things like crafting. The world is like a Skyrim wannabe with shades of LOTR. Additionally, on the PS3 the controls go wonky during battle - for example, you press triangle to do a spell and the world map comes up!! Very frustrating. I've also had the game crash three times. Very disappointed. It's not tragic with funny characters merchants, it's just plain BORING!!! Can't even finish it. Expand

I can honestly say I've never been so disappointed in a game. This thing no longer bears any resemblance to Dragon Age Origins. Where do I even begin?

It's pretty obvious the devs feel so very proud of themselves for their new engine and "open world" gameplay. And you know what? It resembles an MMO perfectly: tedious, boring grinding and fetch quests. There's so many it's practically a joke. If you play this game, this is 90% of what you do. It's every bit as tedious and boring and it seems. I've seen many people claim that the game magically becomes much better after you invest the ludicrous sum of 20 hours into the game. I'll tell you straight up: it doesn't. They try to throw a bunch of crap in your face to try and distract from it, but it's sure as hell still there.

I have my gripes with the combat as well. Of course, there's no auto-attack. The tactical camera is almost worthless since micromanaging your team has been disemboweled. No longer can you stack commands and control every detail. Instead you can marvel at your teammates teleporting next to you and mages running into melee range. I played a 2H warrior, and it was honestly completely boring. Battles only really come in two flavors: ones that require no thought, but go on forever because they have ludicrous amounts of health, or battles in which you die instantly because the game makes no attempt to communicate enemy levels to you. Limiting potions seems to be a decision made solely to leash you and force you back to a camp all too often. It's hardly even worth mentioning how worthless the AI is in the game either.

Graphically is where this game surprised me the most, by not surprising me in the least. They were pretty clearly pumping this up to be something huge, but it looks awful on previous generation consoles. Both of the previous games looked far better.

The biggest issue of all is the optimization. This game is beyond broken. Over my 25 hours of play, I experienced countless freezes, more graphical glitches than you can shake a stick at and all kinds of wild and wacky bugs. Facial textures seem to often fail to load, and pop-in is horrendously slow, often only catching up near the end of cutscene. Slowdown is a very common occurrence as well. It really is a marvel of poor programming.

The story is choppy at best. Most of it a fairly bland affair, but the characters get a few glimmers of interest here and there. However, it's only enough to make you hope you were playing a better game. Wholly, the characters just aren't very interesting or likeable. In general they'll be fairly one-note the entire game.

The Dragon Age series deserved better. I can only hope that it'll be left to rest in peace, but given the slavemasters in control of the IP, we can expect to see it die a slow painful death as they wring every last penny out of it's once good name.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have played Origins and DA2 and liked both because the characters were interesting and the story was good.
There is no story in Inquisition. It is unfathomable how boring they made it, I really tried to like it. I'm on my fifth play through and have only had one laugh in all the play throughs so far. Part of what I liked about the other 2 games was their comedy.
Hawke is a snarling and sneering mess in this game. Varric has zero personality left, his story with Bianca doesn't even make me curious its so badly done. The only character remotely interesting is Solas. Cullen has some good scenes but truly uninspired by the lack of depth in all the characters.

I have never said this before, and I hope to never say it again: this game is so ugly it actually distracts me from being able to play it. I cannot even properly review it because of how awful the graphics are. It looks like an alpha build, they clearly just flipped the switch on some effects, halved the texture sizes and called it a day.

No one expected it too look it's best here, but it could have at LEAST looked DA:2 in quality. There are launch titles that looked better. There are PS2 games that looked better. I'm not just being facetious; texture resolution varies wildly, things pop-in everywhere, the lighting is a combination of far too dark and way too bright (how did that manage this?), people float around and animate through things, and there are tons of visual glitches like the screen tone constantly shifting for no discernible reason. At first I thought there was a day-to-night cycle, this is just tragically bad.

I was super excited that they decided to bring this out for the last gen consoles. I didn't expect they would. The pop-textures and the PlayStation 2 quality graphics were seriously distracting. It's pretty disturbing how bad they are on the PlayStation 3, considering how good their other games they've made were on the eyes. Example would be Mass Effect, the whole series. With that said, it felt like they just put this together and hoped it could be masked in, what I believe to be, a decent storyline. But it only detracts. I'm hoping some sort of patch will help this out, but I don't hold my breath.

As for the story, its truly massive which is normally great for most games. Such as Elder Scrolls Skyrim. But in the case of DAI, I felt overwhelmed by all the info being thrown into my face all at once. It truly made me feel anxious and unfocused on any one task. Not a good thing, in my opinion. Nothing felt casual about these encounters - it just felt like an MMO scripted and forced.

All that being said, I'm speaking in past-tense because I plan to stop playing this mess and wait until I get a PS4 in hopes that I can stop feeling nauseated by the terrible graphics and focused on what is a decent storyline. One can only hope.

I am sorely disappointed as I had such high hopes for this game. They should have stuck to what made the games great instead of designing it more for people who've never played a DA before. I only wish I could get my money back. Maybe I can sell it on Amazon.

I love Bioware games so those by themselves would not be an issue. I've played buggier games for the story alone but, the straw that broke the camel's back came when I was climbing a ladder in the Forbidden Oasis area and the game decided to slow to a crawl. It took my character a good three minutes to slowly, agonizingly ascend the ladder. No big deal though I'll just keep moving and it will sort itself out. Ten minutes later it had not. I figured saving then reloading might be in order. How wrong I was as I reloaded the game only to find that the lag had been saved along with the rest of the game. I tried moving to a new location in the game world via fast travel. The lag now persists in the entire game world becoming more of a threat to Thedas than the rifts in the sky. I might pick this game up when I upgrade to the PS4 next year. In the meantime I would discourage anyone thinking of buying this game for the PS3 from doing so. If you enjoyed the other Dragon Age games then this one will just make you angry. It's nowhere close to the caliber of the first two entries into the series and has made me wish that they never even bothered to try to port it back to the former generation of consoles. Expand
