I've never wrote a review before but after seeing the score this game has received I feel like I should. The campaign while short I did enjoy at first but as it progressed I only found myself playing it just to see what happens to Soap and Captain Price and I wouldn't play the campaign again. I did however enjoy the CoD4 references such as Kamarov and Cpt. MacMillan making small returns and watching the sniper shot to Zakhaev and Al Asads nuke going off from the other side too. I wasn't a fan of the original spec ops and I'm not too impressed here either. The missions are recylced with different objectives and I personally didn't find it all that fun, even with a friend. Survival mode is a new addition to mirror Nazi Zombies and holds up well. You can choose from any map to play on and have access to air support and an armory. It's fun but why can you only play with one friend? If you could play up to 4 it'd be even better. Now the main part of CoD, the multiplayer. On paper it seems the most balanced CoD yet, there doesn't seem to be any overpowered perks and strike packages add a new twist to let even the worst of the players achieve something. The weapon leveling I approve of too. But the map design is awful, I could find 2 or 3 maps that I really enjoyed to play on. The rest have no flow to them. I'm not the best CoD player nor the worst but even I couldn't find that much fun to be had here. It's still a lot of headless chickens running about with UMPs or ACR's and you're killed almost instantly. Still it's always fun to kill half an hour or so. Overall I'm not impressed with this game. It is the same as before which is both good and bad but the CoD series is getting very boring to me now. If anybody reads this I hope it somewhat helps you. Thanks for reading and this is only my opinion. Expand

Not a bad game, but it's really just MW2 repackaged to sap more money from gamers.

It's just too much like the previous game to warrant the price tag. This is becoming the norm for this series though...thankfully BF3 doesn't disappoint.

Love the game but even with a good connection on line play just lags all the time. I can go back and play other games in this series and have a great online experience. Not really sure how they messed this up in Modern Warfare 3 but in my mind I wasted my money.

To be blunt, part of the low scores reflect the anger at feeling duped by critics who have given scores that only seem strengthen the belief that reviews are contingent upon a culture of satisfying the developer$ need$ at the expense of game development and industry health. Everyone understands the need to be profitable, so what you have here is the first shot across the bow that a great marketing campaign and the good will of fans of previous entries will no longer work in an annual business model. Which brings us to the extremely specialized evolution of the franchise, and not for the better. For me MW3 is still riding on the coattails of COD4: MW in terms of gameplay. MW was a hyper-realistic fast-twitch fps that had great map variation and a variety of builds/playstyles that were all viable. With MW2 you had sleeker graphics and even twitchier gameplay. The problem is that map variation and playstyle variety really started to suffer. I killed quicker, died faster, and looked prettier doing it. Unfortunately I had far less fun doing it and far less ways to do it competitively. With the advent of MW3, the game has evolved to an exclusionary extreme where map memorization and fast-twitch gameplay are 95% of the game. If your hand-eye coordination isn't top-notch or you don't invest 10+ hours a week into the game, frustration ensues. To add to the betrayal, it's almost all rehash and no innovation. Maps no longer offer any sense of variation and feel like rushed, inferior versions of previous entries in the franchise. Builds are a joke. Don't expect to properly breach with close combat builds, snipe properly from long range, or use a stealth build to gain any kind of edge. Fast-twitch and map recognition (along with a fast connection) are now kings of a long-since dead kingdom. Many of us are very angry that it cost us $60 to find out the hard way, and after being lied to ta boot by critics. Unless the franchise is revolutionized, I'll never buy another MW game. Expand

MW3 is a great game. The only problem is that it's the same damn thing. They think that just because they add the littlest things to every new COD, that people will still think it is fresh. I know same ol' same ol' repeat of modern warfare 2, but that comment pretty much sums it up. The guns are the same, with the exception of a few pretty good guns. The maps are the same maze driven, dirt roads, burning cars, busted up buildings, --and with what seems to be caution from the creators-- few great spots like in MW2 and black ops (even with how bad that game was). The addition of the strike packages add a new twist, but realistically, along with the kill streaks, they are the same as MW2. One thing i really did like about the multiplayer is being able to carry streaks across deaths, being as how for me its kill, death, kill, death, and so on, and so on. (Also, drop zone is the one thing that kept me playing the game. On to campaign, overall it was an alright campaign, for the fact that it was fresh, and a little interesting, but always being on the brink of death isn't fun in any of the Call of Duty games. In spec ops, the addition of survival is pretty fun, but it is a poor attempt at combating Treyarch's/ Activision's zombies. The missions are a nice challenge. Expand

I noticed the lag is not as bad as it used to be so I think they are working on that issue. I think this game deserves more because the maps are just flat out fun. Seriously where is China??? the second most powerful country in the world, if there is a ww3 than certainly China would have a part to play. The multiplayer is just basically the same formula from mw2 with changes for balancing issues but I did feel infinite ward got lazy with this title and just rehash everything from the previous mw2 and change the 2 to a 3 just so they can release another game. But nonetheless they got what they wanted, the number one largest entertainment launch in history once again. It's amazing how much money a company can make once they get the formula for an addictive game play down, at the same time it's also pretty sad. I am glad this game was merely a gift, as I would not spend a single dime on this "Modern Warfare 2.5" as many are calling it. If Activision really wants to make a better call of duty they NEED to change their engine, and NEED to spend more than 1 year developing a game. Most good games are developed over a long period of time, you cant make a game in one night or even one year for the most part. If Activision really does want the call of duty franchise to continue with the success they have driven them selves into these past years, they really need to sit down, start something new from SCRATCH and not take a dump in one night and slap MW3 on it in a plastic box. In this sense it is the WORST game in the seires. However, This can also be described as the BEST game of the series. The weapon, perk, proficency, and equipment balance seems to have been extremely stressed. The proficiencies have made unpopular or unusuable weapons quite effictive. I also like the new sounds despite the Deagles wimpy sound. The addition of Survival mode has made the co-op section of MW3 compete with Black Ops's Zombies. The SP is decent and will provide a good 4 hours of challenging fun. I felt that CoD4's SP was better, but the last mission of MW3 was a stumper and added a strong closing to the Modern Warfare Series. To me, both quanitity and quality were in mind with this game. New modes, more weapons to tinker with, and will certainly fill your appitite for newness, at least until the DLC comes around. However, I still feel they went overboard on quality and quantity of content (other than maps) and dragged the maps behind. This game is my grandmother stuffing bittersweet chocolate into my mouth. There's a tangible insistence from gamers that this series needs to evolve, but it seems unwarranted when it still leads the FPS class.
