Simply excellent. Well polished and well developed! The campaign is teasingly short (but then again, these games are built for the multiplayer now, and the campaign is developed as a trainer) but the graphics, sound and charater movement are flawless and set a great standard in the FPS realm. Cheers to EA for delivering to the fans!

There is no fun playing this game. Only campers around the maps and there is nobody helping each other like I heard , no team working together. Modern Warfare 10 x 0 Battlefield 3.

After playing the COD series for such a long time, I have become rather bitter in their lack of innovation and same old game play. At first I was afraid the way of controlling the game was a bit too different from the norm but the more I played it the more I started to love it. I don't have people lunging at me with knives and getting 1 hit kills. Killing with a knife actually takes some form of skill. The sounds are awesome! The sound of the explosions and gunfire really helped seal it for me. I gave it a 7 because of the Single Player. If they separated the SP and MP it would have been a 9. Lets hope the new consoles can finally provide DICE with the equipment to run their games to their full visual and player potential. Expand

Battlefield was under pressure to perform after all the talk about it being the CoD-killer. Luckily, it has, but only in Multiplayer. The story is short and confusing, and slightly unrealistic. Although hard to get to grips with, especially since there is no tutorial, it is fun once you understand how to steer and shoot and evade enemy rockets. The graphics are right up there, and destroying buildings is always enjoyable.
I would recommend buying this if you enjoy play FPS online.

What an incredibly bad game. Single player is cliched and quite frankly boring, whereas multiplayer is infested, yes infested, with campers, hackers, boosters, and the lowest forms of gaming life. As for the gameplay the guns are pathetically weak, the graphics trying desperately to hide the ugliness that is the real Battlefield 3. Save your money and buy MW3, Uncharted 3, or Skyrim.

Get Battlefield for the multiplayer. If you get it solely for single player you'll regret your decision. Audio is superb. Having a grenade explode right next to you with surround sound turned on and the bass pumped up is nothing short of audiophilic bliss. With four game modes(Rush, conquest, squad rush, squad deathmatch) and huge maps/vehicles, the multiplayer portion of this game is such a breath of fresh air when compared to COD's archaic deathmatch types. Jets flying overhead, tank shells exploding and tearing holes in buildings as you run by them to get to the next capture point is quite simply gaming nirvana in my opinion, and well worth the price of admission alone. Partying up is easier than was in the beta, though playing co-op should be done with friends only to avoid being kicked from the game when the other person decides they have something more important to do. As far as the single player campagin goes, well, it's not great by any stretch of the imagination, but there are a few points during the campaign that really show off the Frostbite 2 engine, but other than that everything's pretty by the books. With the release of Back to Karkand slated for release in a month or so I'm quite happy with my purchase, and expect many more hours of muliplayer fun in the months to come. Bottom line: get it if you want a unique muliplayer experience, pass on it if you're a single player only gamer. See you on the battlefield Expand

While the PC version of Battlefield 3 is superior in all aspects to the console versions, that's not to say they are not bad, in fact they are great in their own right. The single player is the average fare you get with modern military shooters, while enjoyable it's not something you would want to play twice unless you're going for trophies. I also have a slight problem with how the U.S. Marines are portrayed in the single player. The co-op is very enjoyable with a friend, but with only six missions, it leaves much to be desired. The multiplayer is the bread and butter of all fps games and Battlefield 3 makes the most out of what its got on the consoles. While the destruction of the Frostbite 2 engine is good, it feels a little subdued compared to the house toppling destruction of the Bad Company series, although the Back to Karkand expansion maps are supposed to rectify that this December. Nearly all the weapons in the game feel balanced so that you could do no wrong choosing any of them. The jets are fun and all, but aerial vehicles in general have a steep learning curve and the jets really takes you out of the action as there are only 24 players on consoles. The game modes while few are superb and the maps are very nice looking and varied. Every kill seems to have weight to them compared to other modern military shooters, you feel accomplished after killing someone and taking a dog tag is oh so sweet. The only thing DICE could have done better with Battlefield 3 is if they changed the default voice option to team chat since I find that many people don't know how to change the chat settings or are too lazy to change it. This game begs for teamwork and if you can't hear your teammates other than the ones in the squad, how can you truly work together as a whole? The suppression system in my eyes is revolutionary, no longer will players in Battlefield take on bullets like Superman, no right minded person would not flinch after feeling bullets fly past them. Nothing is more exhilarating than firing back at an enemy when your screen is blurry from the bullets flying around everywhere. Battlefield 3 is a must buy for hardcore shooter fans period. Leave Modern Warfare 3 for the noobs. Expand

I am not a big first person shooter fan at all. My favorite franchise and shooting game of all time is the socom series which is a third person tactical military shooter. I started wit the single player because I wanted to get a feel for the game before embarking into the multiplayer. The single player is absolutely amazing my only gripe about it is that it is a bit short. But the story is great, the graphics are mind blowing, the guns are realistic the sounds make you think you are actually on the battlefield. It is a truly a gaming experience that can't be missed.

Once I beat the single player I jumped in to the multiplayer and I am still discovering that part of the game. So far I have stuck to team deathmatch and its a beauty. The maps are beautiful and fun to play I cant get over the sheer realism this game has. To me Call of Duty looks like a cartoon even on a 1080p tv. But Battlefield looks photo-realistic and true HD. Its amazing they can make a game look like this on a 6 year old console (ps3). The online also has a game mode called conquest where you can get in tanks, vehicles, jets and etc. as well as be a ground troop. I havent played that much as I said I am sticking to team deathmatch right now.

There is also a co-op mode that you can play with a friend online. Overall this game rocks. Its worth 60 dollars and you wont be disappointed

I've been a gamer all my life since NES days and first got into 1st person shooters with PS3's Resistance, not counting N64 Golden Eye, etc. That transitioned into COD4, one of the best shooters of all time. Next came COD World At War which was nowhere as fun. Then followed something a little better, COD6 (MW2), but not quite great due to annoying perks and sub-par maps. Battlefield 1943I've been a gamer all my life since NES days and first got into 1st person shooters with PS3's Resistance, not counting N64 Golden Eye, etc. That transitioned into COD4, one of the best shooters of all time. Next came COD World At War which was nowhere as fun. Then followed something a little better, COD6 (MW2), but not quite great due to annoying perks and sub-par maps. Battlefield 1943 was actually tons of fun and I enjoyed it very much, but I found less and less people online. Black Ops came out and is holding me up until today. Not quite like COD4, but better then its successors. Now comes out MW3 and Battlefield 3. I'm not a killing machine but my K/D ratio is at 2.58. I decided I wanted a game where I didn't have to kill like crazy and use more strategy, more like Battlefield 1943. So I went with BF3. Here are my thoughts ....

BF3: Graphics are great, air/ground vehicles are amazing. I was really pumped. After 2 weeks of playing all maps, and all game modes, I came to the conclusion this game is simply terrible.

    +PROS:

-Graphics amazing -Guns variety, attachments -Choppers, jets, tanks, cars -Map variety, sizes -Cinematic (chopper flying over you and unloading, etc)

    +CONS:

-Strategy. You get in a tank and the guy driving it is a retard. Probably a 5 year old playing it. This normally doesn't happen in the PC version as you need a $2000+ computer to even support this game and not too many parents are going to give their "kid" this to play video games. Way too many little kids playing this that are loners like me. Unless you play with friends, it's useless. Everyone does their own thing.

-Shooting. This is a mess. I swear to you I shot a guy twice with a sniper rifle and he did not go down!! Clearly I made contact because the landing bullet showed a red hit. I can't kill a guy next to me to save my life either. My K/D in every shooter has been between 1.86 - 2.58, not spectacular, but enough to say I'm pretty decent. I try shooting from the hip and aiming down the sights, and it is impossible. I tried several guns, still looked like a NOOB. I try camping, everything. Again, not saying I need a great K/D. I just want to be able to kill the guy I have in sight very close to me when he's not looking at me. Hell, I can have a great time being 5 kills and 8 deaths one game. Battlefield 1943 was awesome. Now that was a real simulator.

-Stabbing. The cinematic stabbing scene is great but seriously, when I stab, I just want a guy to go down and that's that. Not here, no way. A couple of times I tried stabbing a guy from behind while he was sniping and nothing would happen. I was hammering R2 and it looked like my guy had a stuttering movement. Finally after 6 secs, the guy turned around and killed me. Like I said, this happened more than once! Now I can stab a guy prone and it shows all this great action scene where I flip him over and stab him, but who cares? When I stab, I just want to kill the guy and move on! This is super annoying. I'm not saying I want to stab on the fly like COD but still, when the other guy has his back towards me, he should die.

    FINAL THOUGHTS:

You either make this a hardcore simulator all the way, or you don't. It shouldn't take more than around 4 shots to kill a guy. This is a game where you need to get inside a tank to do anything. I don't mind camping but this is ridiculous. You can camp for literally 5 mins waiting for a kill in a great spot, but you either wait longer or get killed. SHOOTING AND MOBILITY IS THE MOST ANNOYING FEATURE ABOUT THIS GAME. It's like spending $60 to watch a movie not play a game. Yes, it looks beautiful but plays like crap. If you want to buy this game, I suggest getting on blu-ray "Blackhawk Down" or "Saving Private Ryan", looks just as great and much cheaper.

I never thought that a shooter exceed the MW, but Battlefield 3 has been filled and exceeded my expectations in every way, without dimensions scenes that make you feel in the game.
The online and co-operatives are well made and small wars carried out in Rush mode are great.

A near perfect shooter. I like to put it this way: The Call of Duty games are great, awesome, fantastic fun, and Battlefield 3 is FAR SUPERIOR!! A few minor glitches and limitations prevent this game from being perfect. Newer players beware there is a serious learning curve here and it takes awhile to unlock most of the best items/equipment/attachments. 9.5/10

Having moved over from COD I tried to play it in the same run-and-gun way, and got very frustrated with it. After 1 day I nearly took it back to the shop for something else. I stuck with it though, changed the way I played, and can say hands down this is better than MW will ever be. Better graphics, better sound, more realistic, no overpowered perk drops, just way way more fun. The game isn't perfect, but MW3 being so poor makes it look so. BF3 needs a training mode otherwise it is madly frustrating getting owned by some 30+ rank dick of a sniper. Couple of the weapons need rebalancing. Couple of the maps are frustrating. Love the size and scale of the maps on Rush mode. Getting your hands on a jet is rare. I have played BFBC2 and enjoyed it very much prior to the release of BF3. On the PS3, players will notice that DICE has implemented a server browser which makes it all the more easy to select games you want to get into. With the addition of prone, jets, flashlights, melee kill animations and falling debris that can kill you, this game definitely adds new content to the Battlefield series. Rush and Conquest remain as the primary game types which encourage players to forget about personal kill/death ratios and go for the greater good of the team. Seeing your team emerge victorious just seems to be more gratifying than boasting about how you got a ton of kills and only a handful of deaths; that sort of thing is done in another not so unfamiliar FPS game. What many veterans of the franchise may not like is how the game has been injected (or infected, if you will) with a certain style of play not original to Battlefield. An example would be the playstyle on the map Operation Metro. This map is devoid of vehicles, turrets or anti-air guns. What usually occurs is a short skirmish o gunfights that leave the player thinking "Hey, what I've just played through doesn't feel so much like Battlefield is supposed to feel like". I'm not mentioning any other game but I just disliked the fact that BF3 sort of tried to be like other FPS games when it excelled best when it presented it's unique style of the FPS genre. That being said, BF3 boasts its addictive multiplayer experience and should definitely be one of the games you get this year. Maybe even for Christmas. Pros and Cons +Addictive and powerfully engrossing multiplayer +Great graphics on the PS3 +Improved internet connection from BFBC2 +Battlelog which tracks your stats and also your friends' is a welcome addition. Best part is that it's free -Sometimes gameplay tends to imitate other FPS and it does not suit BF3 -Coop seemed unnecessary and a bit uninspired -If you've played a lot of FPS campaigns, BF3's bet seems like a hodge-podge of campaigns, not an entirely unique and new adventure Expand

I know that other games do this as well, but it just seems more frustrating in this game. The characters have no personality differentiation unlike BF:BC2. I know that this game is supposed to be a serious game and all that jazz but it just lacked in every department. It is pretty sad when a gamer really just wants a game to be over. Graphically, the best part of the game was the lighting effects. The lights are incredible. Other than that, EA/Dice did not really update anything. I have been deceived by screen shots. The leveling system is a huge leap forward from the Bad Company 2. Highly recommend this one.

This game is epic... I have bf3 and mw3 and I cant stop playing bf3... the graphics alone sink me into the game... But the gameplay driving vehicles and the destruction and the realism... so amazing THANK U EA!!! made one hell of a game. Now on to skyrim tonight :)

Overall great game, although this DOES HAVE A LEARNING CURVE! No other game has maps as large and dynamic as this game and actually enforces teamwork. I love this game, it's a must have for anyone who is a fan of war, FPS and action titles.

There is no doubt this year. I have always been a hardcore call of duty fan, but after playing battlefield 3, I was blown away. The multiplayer will keep you going for months, if not years and is worth the 60$ alone.. If not more.

Amazing! Graphics alone are stunning. Amazing online and gameplay. Campaign story line is a little difficult to follow and more like CoD, but fantastic game!

Multiplayer has no good game modes. Maps are huge without enough players. No lobby between games sucks. The only thing saving this game from a 0 is the vehicles. Jets are sick, choppers are sick, tanks are sick, everything else is wak. This game has the potential to be AMAZING. But its NOT.

BF3 rocks! It is great to have the large maps and vehicle choices, and most of all something to do besides just kills. I have played BF and BC games since the 1st, same with COD but COD gets very boring with limited space and the non-stop barrage of killstreaks going off left and right. I have always enjoyed BF games (and the variations) the most.

I bought BFBC2 and hated it because I was so used to the fast paced, action packed, tighly quartered CoD gameplay. Thinking BF3 would be a nice change of pace, I bought it. It has not disappointed. I find that this game is more realistic and more innovative than CoD. The levels are massive each with a variety of attack options. If you want to engage in an aerial assault, you can just jump in a jet or a helicopter, no killstreak necessary. If you want an armored ground assault, you can jump in a tank (drive or ride, either way). If you are hundreds of meters away from your objective, you can jump in a humvee/jeep and drive until you are comfortably close. The recoil on the guns is crazy, but at least there is recoil and it's not just hold the "shoot" button. The weapons have a variety of different attachments and the customization is refreshing. If you don't fire in controlled bursts, you will likely miss your target. The different classes were hard to get used to at first, but once you adjust, the experience becomes enjoyable. Sniping takes on a whole new meaning, requiring you to adjust your aim to account for distance so that your bullet takes the proper trajectory to get the kill.

If someone is camping in a building, you can literally destroy the building to flush them out or they will die trying to hide inside of it. There are things that need fixing, however. The "squad" feature often separates parties and the voice chat is less than desirable. I used to love Call of Duty and Modern Warfare. I had great times with those games. I even bought MW3 hoping that all the critics would be silenced. Instead, I have become one of the critics, and one of those who appreciates Battlefield more for the better experience it provides. Battlefield 3 is worth it if you enjoy a realistic (and at times frustrating) experience.

I usually snipe, so I just great to set up post like 750 yards out of the middle of the map and snipe away without being detected. I swear this being my first Battlefield game purchase Im def satisfied. There's only one problem the chat doesnt seem to work effectively. But the way this game is built its made to last year for the entire year going into 2012. All building are capable of being destroyed. It felt like I was in Saving Private Ryan when I shot a rocket a Tank and he turn around and blew half the floor out on Seine Crossing. The guns and sounds are live action, especially if your playing with surround sound. Your handgun is capable of taking out two guys with one clips, this is unheard of in COD. These makes the game so more realistic. And the teamwork it takes to win makes the game so much fun, even tho there isnt much communication thru the game b/c I guess the chat system, everyone is usually on course when it comes to the objectives of the game. I was the gunner in the tank and I had a guy driving the take and we were just calling tangos out I would shoot in the direction and he would blow the area up with the M8 shells. Here another cool thing, I ran into a building on Noshahr Canals, I guy parachuted onto the top of the warhouse, it was no way for me to reach him to I just went in the building and blew the roof of, he came falling thru and I shot em dead. There's so many different situations to get kills, its def a fun game to play. Take this from a Socom 2 and 3 player whos's use to 3rdPS and only having one life per round. This is by the most realistic game out there. Expand

Hopefully EA reconsiders its approach to toppling Call Of Duty in the future, and allows its games to develop their own personality, rather than imitate something else.

The nine multiplayer maps seem to be designed specifically to let players come up with their own creative strategies. Compared to COD, this gives the player a real sense of freedom. There is no such thing as a perfect strategy or a trotten path. [December 2011, p.74]
