battlefield 3 is a great game but not a perfect game. reason is that it still have some major flaw with the sound delay when reloading and sudden quiet during online gameplay.

I am reviewing this on the campaign only, which is soooooo boring. I played the Modern Warfare campaign before this and that was outstanding but compared to a game that is in the future it shows that Battlefield might have a great multiplayer but the campaign laxks something.

A good game. The multiplayer is just great, nothing to say about it... But the campain is just... it doesn't look like a "battlefield" game, it is short, to linear, some bugs... The scenario is good I think, but that's the only positive point, I think. About the co-op, it is more a stopgap than anything else.

To buy only for the multiplayer ! Do not expect something clean and beautiful

Battlefield 3 was one of the most anticipated games in 2011, and this reviewer can tell you that it is absolute rubbish. The campaign is garbage, as usual with the Battlefield series. The campaign lacks a storyline, and cannot be easily understood other than "Shoot everything you can see". The multiplayer is unstable and buggy, and causes major lag issues. I really hate to finally play a game when it has received the amount of hype Battlefield 3 has. Even if I thoroughly enjoy every aspect of the game, it's not hard to feel somewhat disappointed when the hype has reached a fever pitch. Fortunately, this is not the case for BF3. I will say that the single player campaign was not on the level I was hoping it would be. I will say that the single player campaign was not on the level I was hoping it would be. The visuals and polish were astounding but the story's length and coherency could have been better. But that's not really why I purchased the game is it? I am a relative newcomer to the BF series so I can't help but compare it to Modern Warfare at every level. The first thing I noticed was a glaring glitch of some sort. Every time I shoot an enemy in BF3, they seem to fall over and I am rewarded with points. That never happens in MW3. All kidding aside, BF3 blows away the competition in every respect. The gun play is tight and the bullets are deadly. The movement and animations give me a real sense of control and help to immerse me in the fight. Add vehicles and environmental destruction to the mix and DICE has far exceeded the latest in the COD franchise. I would have loved to see MW3 improve on the now 5 game old formula but at least the excellence of BF3 will force the issue next year. I'm sure many will disagree with my take on the winner of this battle, which is understandable, considering many people like to hide in corners and wait until someone runs past for an easy kill from behind. At least in DICE's offering you can achieve redemption by dropping a building on the sorry sap. I see Battlefield keeping my interest for many months, if not years to come. Bravo to DICE and to EA for recognizing the innovation crippling business model that they almost pioneered. This is a first hand account of what they avoided by letting the creatives do their thing. Battlefield 3 and Dice step up and in my mind easily top COD: MW3. The new Frostbite 2 engine enhanced the graphics and physics in the game. The story is good but it is to short to me and this is the main reason it got a 9 instead of 10. The multiplayer is great and is very easy to get into the game unlike COD were it has taken me over 10 minutes to join a COD online game. It is the better buy.

There is a good mulltiplayer aspect to this game, but some flaws mage the game almos unplayable:

    1) A lot of people (me included) are experiencing an enourmous amount of input lag (some youtube videos measure more than 300ms); 2) Deadzone is too great (you have to move the stick much more than normal to start turning); 3) Aim acceleration is strange, when you move the stick just a little

Join these 3 things and you have a crapshoot, you can only hit stationary target with consistency. If a patch solve these things, it would make the best online experience to date, but for now, stick with BF3 on 360 or PC.

PS.: If you think you don't have the input lag issue, try playing any other FPS game (especially others with 30 fps like BFBC2) for about 30 minutes and then come back to BF3. You won't like the results.

This was worth a $3.00 rent at redbox. I played the main story for about 3 hours and was already bored of it. These games are really starting to get tiring. I have no intention to buy this game. There is nothing fun about the game and if you look at the story and game play from an arm length away, it seems like a cheesy B-rated action flick.

The amount of free-range you get per level is something I personally love! I can be tactical in this game with my squad or I can go Lone Wolf once in a while. I came into Battlefield 3 with high expectations and I will state this: I came into the game looking for something to satisfy my multiplayer cravings; not the single player, I knew the single player would probably be redundant so those who look at a game for its single-player experience, stop. This is not the game for any single player lovers. Has BF3 satisfied my multiplayer cravings? II came into Battlefield 3 with high expectations and I will state this: I came into the game looking for something to satisfy my multiplayer cravings; not the single player, I knew the single player would probably be redundant so those who look at a game for its single-player experience, stop. This is not the game for any single player lovers. Has BF3 satisfied my multiplayer cravings? I think so. It's insanely addictive, the teamwork that this game requires is a massive reason why I like it so much. I can still rank up just from resupplying, healing, spotting, piloting, and etc. A bit slow to rank up but I'm having a fun time ranking up, so why not? I saw the review that was complaining about the fact that the game doesn't remember your favourite map settings? Seriously? There are only 10 maps (soon to be 14 with BtK) and 5 game modes; if you can't remember what game mode you like best and the map you liked best, I pity your memorization capabilities. I have no problems; I know what combo I like best: Conquest and Kharg Island. Done. Simple as that. If you can't adapt to what they've given you by complaining about the difficulty of the game's targetting, man up. Don't expect everything to be given to you on a silver platter even if you paid 60+ dollars. It's called taking some time to actually adapt yourself to the game. There are a lot of things to say about this game's multiplayer but I can safely say that as long as you have an open mind, you will not be disappointed. Are there some short-comings? Sure. I have it for PS3 and the multiplayer gets incredibly slow-paced in the much larger maps like Caspian Border and Kharg Island due to the small amount of players. I'd like it if DICE could improve this somehow even if it means removing some of the destruction aspects of multiplayer. Any other disappointments? I know that some specializations for the vehicles don't work very well (TV Missile) and the forsaken Godlight (I'm sure that they're going to nerf this soon anyways). Rush is kind of a disappointment too, but mostly because if your team isn't very smart, they'll run through the same old gauntlet, die, rinse and repeat. Sniping is also a pain, but who knows? I will say that I suck at sniping but some of the sniper rifles are better without scopes. Jets? Difficult to fly but I do believe that learning how to fly it is incredibly rewarding. In the end, Battlefield 3 is a game made for the multiplayer freak inside of everyone. I can't completely demote it because it doesn't have a worthwhile single-player experience. I was so grateful that I pre-ordered this game; worth it. It does have some bugs and issues that it still needs to fix but I have trust in DICE, it will happen. So in the end, this is a very worthwhile game. I mean, it's not like we got a rehashed game made for a cash grab, right MW3? Expand

Great game, but the removal of bots means it is not perfect. It is absolutely perfect for people who love strategy based tactical shooters. the maps are large and battles are intense. It has great sound, graphics and one of the best FPS i have played. Once again, DICE have made only one mistake, the removal of bots for people who want to take it easy, practice, or have no internet connection.

Boring campaign, but after playing all CODs since MW i really liked the multiplayer offering DICE put up with MOH. I enjoyed the tactical pacing as opposed to COD's frantic running and gunning. Also, LOVED the sound. Personally, i became better at COD after playing MOH because i learnt to move better. Of course this may only apply to me.
Anyway, two days ago, i get my copy of BF3. i fire it up and it throws me into Rush on Caspian Border. As soon as i spawn i'm looking at a tank standing on the asphalt. Immediately there's a loud boom; the tank recoils and kicks up dust. A second later i hear another muffled explosion as the shell hits. i'm already thinking WOW, when a chopper buzzes overhead, machine guns spitting fire. There's a shout over the radio about an enemy fast mover, but i'm too preoccupied with the audio visual assault to catch it. A second later a jet buzzes low, chasing after the chopper. Its now that I start running for cover. DICE has thrown me straight in to a war zone. Welcome to Battlefield.
I have seen very few sights since i started gaming in the early 90s that made me just sit in awe. This was one of them. And many more followed. I've only played the multiplayer so far, so i cant comment on the campaign. i dont play FPS games for campaigns any more, although i did till MW2. i even played the MW3 campaign, but it didnt have that spark anymore. I'd already seen the washington monument destroyed. Manhattan was just more of the same. And the story was flat out cliched. I dont dislike COD. i've spent many enjoyable months on it, prestiged etc. I even played MW3 multiplayer. But it was almost more of the same. Enjoyable, yes. Amazing, no. Now i'm not especially good at online multiplayer. just average. But a day later, im still enjoying every minute of BF3. i cant wait to get back in the game. And not only because of the visuals. BF3 makes you feel like you're contributing with more than just kills. Spotting, repairing, healing; that's you being part of the team. And you get rewarded for it. IW is good at giving you small, frantic and personal gun fights, DICE is great at making you part of a team. MOH made me feel like part of a squad waging a small tactical battle. But that was just an appetizer for Battlefield 3. This, this is war.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Battlefield 3, while it may look nice on a PC and be groundbreaking graphically on a PC, lacks, incredibly on both the PS3 and 360. The entire game, is lacking.

Battlefield 3 is supposed to support the most realistic graphics of any game out there, bringing a large amount of reality, with the simple physics the game has, to the FPS genre. Well, it doesn't. The game looks no where near as well as it was advertised too. While they may have been showing the PC graphics, no mentions nor footage was made available in any advertising of the let down the consoles had to offer. For being such a hyped part of the games advertisement campaign, I am very upset with both DICE and EA on this one. And this is only the graphical fidelity, I haven't even touched on the many, many in game graphical bugs that are absolutely game breaking. Part of the "realism" is the lighting. Honestly, it is some of the worst lighting I have ever seen in any game. Rather than the enviroment looking as though you are a person seeing everything, it appears that you are in fact just a wet camera lens. Every light in the game gives off a blinding glare. Even flashlights from 600 yards away, in the middle of broad daylight, will blind you as if you are starring into a 5 million candle powered mag light. I won't even go any further with these horrendous problems. For what the game was hyped to be, graphically, it is a gigantic let down filled with a multitude of bugs, at least 10 of which I haven't even spoken of.

Now gameplay for BF3 is split into two areas, a Single player campaign and the online multiplayer. I've played both, and both are terrible. Every single scene from the single player campaign, has been ripped from a call of duty dating back to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. From a terrorist setting of a nuclear weapon, a top down mission from a jet fighter reminiscent of the AC-130 level in CoD-4, ride a lont rail shooting levels like that in World at War, shooting innocent police officers because they get in your way in a crowded public area, Modern Warfare 2, to the entire back drop of the single player campaign where you are being interrogated and are playing through flashbacks, Black Ops, to a destroyed Paris overflowing with nerve gas, Modern Warfare 3. There isn't a Call of Duty, that the single player campaign hasn't stolen from. It really is, pathetic. Just more proof, that BF3 really isn't "above and beyond the call."

Now, multiplayer. Where do we begin? Should I start with tactical flashlights that when mounted on a pistol can blind in broad daylight from 500 yards away or should I start with how if someone is aiming a weapon with a laser sight on it at your feet you are for some reason blinded? Not only are there some terrible implementations like these weapon attachments, but some previous mechanics such as destroying a tank, has been made near impossible without an entire platoon working on it at once. It takes 7 rockets to completely destroy a tank in the multiplayer. Yet only maybe 5 seconds to fully repair a tank to full armor. Some terrible items have been added, such as the Recon classes Recon Drone, which for some reason, you can run over and kill someone with a flying object the size of a basketball. The weapons are completely inbalanced, the bullet drop system only works half the time, the suppression system is just havoc, and once again the EA provided servers are absolutely terrible beyond usage nearly.

Honestly, this game would not even be worth a rent. I feel bad for the person who buys my used copy from the game store after I return this, only to have to purchase an online pass to play this lackluster title and just become frustrated with it.

This game is really good, the graphics are elite for a console. The destruction is so fun to watch, all you'll want to do is blow stuff up. TDM i think is really good, the spwans need some fixing but its not that bad. Overall this is a game to get if you like FPS

Just got this game on black weekend at best buy for $30. I thought this was going to be a fun game but it is terrible not unplayable but just bad. The campaign was boring and the multiplayer was horrible a campers wet dream. Trying to shoot someone was a chore and almost impossible but what was harder was trying to find someone on the map. Last but not least I'm not Call of duty fanboy

They set the charge. Oh no Game over i thought but then soomething swept across me; a defiance; a determination to win it for my time and I turned the corner as a wall got blown up next to me shaking the camera and I sprayed a clip into the blurrs I saw on the screen. Then points after points came up. Triple kill, defender, savior e.t.c. I then diffused the charge much to the relief of my team mates and my friend shouted across the mike f***ing awesome. Of course I knew it. But usually you get these moments at least once a match and I love them. The single player although very well executed feels a bit linear and less freedom is given although the storytelling is a lot better than MW's so called "plot". This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have to give this game a 10 out of 10, it surpassed my expectations. After hearing the large number of complaints that the campaign was exactly like Call of Duty, but I was surprised to play it and it being nothing like the Modern Warfare games. Where Modern Warfare was based around the US and Russia fighting each other. Battlefield 3 campaign is specifically about fighting a terrorist organisation. Where the only fight against Russians was not open warfare, but Russia trying to take the same target as the US. This being said the excellent graphics and sound complemented it nicely with the Destruction being fun. I was a bit disapointed that the destruction wasn't amped up more and sometimes on some Multiplayer maps, there was less destruction on buildings than the same type of building in others. But this being said, I had allot of fun blowing up buildings.

Now the Multiplayer, the maps are fun, unlocks excellent the vehicle warfare excellent, just everything A++. I like the jets and helicopters, I'm just a little disappointed that when your flying the transport helicopter the most points you can get is, 10 per gunner getting a kill and that the scout helicopter's machine gun is a little under-powered.

Overall I have to give it a 10 out of 10 because it's faults are far outweighs by it's positives.

And if you thinking of buying this or MW3, go look at the user reviews for MW3.

They know what they are and thats a MP experience and if you wanna try support the single player, then you obviously haven't played any other proper single player experience this year as the market is littered with better experiences. Now back to battlefield 3, i'll start with a list of innovations in gameplay and graphics.... The destruction system, while flawed and not red faction, its still really immersive and realistic. Terrain deformation, bit of wall flying off wen trying to hide.... its insane who good it looks. I mean I see a bunch of enemies hold up in one area, fire a rocket above them and the building falls and kills them all. Like wow! It brings new levels of realism and immersion to the experience. The animation system they built is incredible, characters die, move, shoot, you name it, they do it so realistic its makes you stop a marvel at the true innovation they've incorporated here. Vehicles looks amazing, firing a tank in a wooded area and all the trees bend to the shockwave of the force from the cannon.... WHAT GAME DOES THIS! So amazing to watch. Small little innovations to gameplay also to balance the experience are implemented like flashlight blindings, laser sights so blind snipers out of their camping poistion, not to mention the lense flare if the sniper point in scope at you specifically. All these little things help push the genre forward. The sound in this game is unrivaled by ANY game. Just amazing, I feel like I'm in a real battlefield from start to finish of a map and it truly shows what can be done these days. This is the game you show to non-gamers to show them how far games have come and how much room for improvement a lot of games need to make to even come close to competitive with this great title. You can tell they put so much time and effort into a truly deep, immersive and NEW experience than its previous iterations. New engine = yes imo. DICE you've done it again 10/1 Expand

One more of the things they have changed with the multiplayer is that they reward you for helping the team, for example, you can revive your teammates and you get as many points, as if you kill an enemy.

If you are going to put quicktime events in, you have to make it an experience where for every motion you do on screen, there is a relevant button press or sequence. Call of Duty, for all that people discredit it, perfected these sequences in MW1-MW2. Considering that BF3's single player is completely ripping off the CoD formula, I don't think it would be too much to ask to go that extra mile. The multiplayer is the bright spot here, even though I have a feeling that the 30fps is only something consoles achieve in an empty server with nothing going on. Once the flashlights are tweaked, it will be a fairly balanced experience. Well, as balanced as a Battlefield experience can be. While some of the classes are decently equipped to take on vehicles, the fact of the matter is that the playing experience in a vehicle far exceeds being a typical soldier. Your opportunity to actually get on a roll is far easier in a tank than it is on the ground. Considering how many rockets it can take to blow up a tank, things get a little hazier on the ground. This is still the most complete package of a Battlefield product we have seen yet. I hope they continue to tweak it to make it a better playing experience (the input lag on PS3 is very annoying), but it is still a very worthy purchase despite its several flaws. Basically, this is a good game that just got too much hype for the way it turned out. Expand

The last shooter I played was black ops, I accidentally fell upon battlefield 3 beta and I was in awe. I decided to buy bf3 and I have never played or seen a shooter so imense and fun. Some people may not like as it's realistic with shooting and you can't just run in solo and take on 100 people. Well not all the time. But I love it, best shooter ever.

Upon entering the single player campaign you'll probably be thinking two things... "I hope this is fun" and "Oh em gee let's skip this cutscene..." The game spits you into the back of an APC with your comrades engaging in conversation before being greeted by the sun as you step out onto the dusty street of a war torn bazaar. The graphics. The graphics. The graphics are nothing short of great-to-look-at, especially on a high definition TV, the sound quality is even better! Well, the presentation of the look and sounds is just fine, but what about the experience itself? Being perfectly honest, the Battlefield 3 campaign is lacking. Although it incorporates the different styles of play battlefield has been known for, it removes the freedom of play and destruction we all know so well. So anyway, you're prodded along by a stick of gunfire and yelling soldiers through the narrow corridor of offline gameplay, and pretty soon you'll be getting sick of that stick, trust me.

On the other hand, the online action is remarkable. In a good way. Kicking it off you have a small, yet diverse array of weapons and gadgets at your disposal. Leveling through the ranks you'll broaden your horizon in regards to options of combat utensils, and there's even upgrades for each of the vehicle types. The maps are of a large scale, yet still comfortable when made smaller for Team Deathmatch and Squad vs Squad game modes, environments are diverse and real enough to be made into your comfortable second home, at least for awhile. Unless you're a powerleveling experience whoring beast of victory, it should take at least a few months to progress through the main levels of experience, with the top level being 44. After 44 levels you'll enter the prestige state of leveling, you'll gain a new emblem and it will take more experience to level up, but you'll still retain your unlocks. I got really bored and I can't be bothered to continue the review. Anyway, it's a fun balanced game with a couple bugs which will be ironed out, and the singleplayer is not that good.

Second, is the issues on multiplayer like, unbalanced weapons, low weapon damage, game latency and last but not forgotten is the horrible respawning problem. "Unbalanced weapons" An example of this is the PP-2000 out gunning a Shotgun at close range enough said! "Low weapon damage" Nothing drives me more crazy than wasting an entire Mag on someone to kill them, I mean come on 15-31 rounds into someone standing still before they die is just stupid! "Game latency" proof of this as most people knows who have played the game is while taking fire you run for cover only to be killed once you've made it around a corner or behind an object by the same player who was shooting you to begin with. And now to the worst of them all is the awful "Respawning" for TDM. I can not count the amount of times I have been killed because I have been spawned right into the sights of an enemy and shot dead before i could even hit the run or shot button. I am giving this game a 7 because of these issues and a few others. I ama little disappointed in this game but it is better the most of its competitors and its good to see that DICE is taking the proper steps to correct these problem.

The control sensitivity was all jacked up, the button configuration was confusion, and the campaign story was a copied version of a couple of other games, such as EA's 2006 game BLACK and Black Ops. Whether I am playing alone or with friends, this game has killed time like no other. I've owned the game since its release and have barely noticed the days of playtime that I've already put into it. If you aren't use to FPS controls, they take some getting used to, but the control-design of everything from your soldier, to both air and land vehicles, and even to the way projectiles are affected by gravity are all superb - fluent and intuitive. Minor bugs have popped up here and there, though this is almost always the case with newly released online games and luckily none remotely game breaking (some being nothing but amusing); they are being dealt with and fixed anyway. However the multiplayer experienceis much better I have had no problems finding matches and the option to use a server browser makes finding my kind of games far easier, everything in the multiplayer game seems to work very well and though it can be frustrating at times I feel that this is due to the inherent competetive nature of online shooter rather than any flaw with the game. My only real complaint here is the quality teamplay capabilities, I have only been able to form parties of up to 4 (I believe this is intentional) which is much smaller than I would like in addition to this our group was often split up apon joining matches often onto opposing teams. The quality of voice communication also leaves some to be desired it is often difficult to understand squadmate and you can only communicate with your squad. For this I must dock battlefield points. Overall though with a solid online component it would be difficult to view this as anything but a good buy for an fps fan. Expand

Firstly just to get the elephant out of the room or in this 'review', the single player. Battlefield series has never been much of a single player title and battlefield 3 is no different. Due to very restrictive gameplay, very cliché story and worst of all, getting repetedly killed by an enemy from one corner of the room whilst you are dealing with the enemy in the other die. The only reason why you will want to play the single player mode is to unlock the maps in CO-OP missions. I am not going to talking much about the CO-OP missions since i have only played 2 matches. However the main reason why anyone is going to buy BF3 is for their multiplayer mode. Dice really have shown what they can do with the frost bite engine 2.0 here. From the amazing vehicle damage to the the complete destruction of building it really is a unique experience, compare to other FPS in the market. All of guns feel solid and powerful. Graphically the game looks amazing but I do feel DICE could have done better however what it lacks visually they more than make it up in sound. Its is mind-blowing. From assault rifles to snipers they all sounds amazing. I cannot even tell you the experience of hearing the building next to you being completely obliterated, coming out of the head set. YOU NEED TO HAVE A PROPER HEADSET FOR THIS GAME.

One other thing DICE have successfully done is rewarding you for every action you do in the game. The game reward you for almost anything you do, so you can be the best player of the match without even killing any of the enemy player. In my opinion Battlefield 3 is the best shooter in the market. DICE have truly have made something special.

The nine multiplayer maps seem to be designed specifically to let players come up with their own creative strategies. Compared to COD, this gives the player a real sense of freedom. There is no such thing as a perfect strategy or a trotten path. [December 2011, p.74]
