Game World Navigator MagazineDec 24, 2014It seems that the Assassin's Creed series came to this stage when new releases should be evaluated not by the novelty of the process, but by the presentation of the game, abundance of events and action. Indeed, what new score can you give to the gameplay that essentially remains unchanged? [Jan 2015, p.66]
-
Play UKDec 18, 2014Plays like a greatest hits album for the series so far. [Issue#251, p.72]
-
Nov 14, 2014This game is not the sequel the world was waiting for, but that does not mean it is not entertaining. The fans can finally finish the American chapter of the game and get to experience the story from the Templars point of view. The gameplay has not changed, which is unfortunate as the franchise could use a freshening up.
-
Games Master UKJan 31, 2015Rogue's filler is the killer. [Feb 2015, p.64]
-
Dec 4, 2014It feels far more like a fleshed-out and glorified DLC than it does a true sequel.
-
Nov 25, 2014Rogue is not one of the best in the series, in fact I’d put it pretty low on the pole. But they did give it a good try and there’s hope for more intricate gameplay in the future, though this is certainly the last AC game developed for the previous gen consoles.
-
Jan 14, 2015Adventures of Cormack and the different point of view of an old conflict are the only positives of Assassin's Creed Rogue. Everything else is already well-known.
-
Playstation Official Magazine UKJan 13, 2015An interesting story means Rogue is essential for fans of Creed lore, but it rests on its laurels by using Black Flag's naval combat wholesale, just in a chilier setting. [Jan 2015, p.87]
-
Dec 15, 2014Assassin's Creed Rogue is primarily a game for veterans of the series. If you are a beginner this is not the best game to get into this great adventure.
-
Dec 15, 2014Rogue may seem an odd release but it is a worthwhile one that any Assassin completionist will want to play and won’t regret doing.
-
Dec 3, 2014Quite a funny story bonus to endless Assassin's Creed saga suffers mainly due to technical obsolescence and dev aversion to any significant changes. AC3 and AC4 fans are welcome - others can pass this one.
-
Nov 25, 2014Though enjoyable, Assassin’s Creed Rogue plays like a greatest hits version of previous games in the series.
-
Nov 25, 2014If you’re an experienced AC player, here’s my advice: Rogue feels like a good expansion, and it’s worth seeing Shay’s role in the ongoing drama. But because it’s so similar to Black Flag, I think you’re better off waiting for a price drop.
-
Nov 24, 2014Assassin's Creed: Rogue is not just a shameless commercial operation. Yes, it uses the same assets of last year and yes, it really brings nothing new. But the plot has been able to reveal some nice surprises, magnifying the lore of this famous saga in a way that we could've never imagined.
-
Nov 24, 2014For anyone not yet fatigued by Assassin's Creed's relentless release schedule, Rogue is a fine game in the series, but for those who had their fill of looting and plundering the high seas in Black Flag, this could be one to miss.
-
Nov 20, 2014Assassin's Creed fans who enjoyed Black Flag will likely enjoy Rogue as long as they're up for more naval adventures.
-
Nov 17, 2014For all its faults: the agonizing familiarity, the workable plot, the insipid characters and, perhaps worst of all, the intrinsic absence of novelty common in most of the series’ open worlds, Assassin’s Creed Rogue — Unity’s last-gen partner in crime — is astoundingly stable.
-
Nov 17, 2014Assassin’s Creed Rogue isn’t really a Black Flag sequel, but nor is it Ubisoft cashing in on PS3 owners. It feels more like a really expansive piece of DLC that’s loaded with things to look at and places to go while acting as a solid continuation of a successful story.
-
Nov 14, 2014If Unity feels like a star ballplayer calling his shot to the bleachers, popping it up for an easy catch and losing the game, Rogue is the result of that same ballplayer keeping the ball on the ground and hitting a nice solid double.
-
Nov 14, 2014Being more of an epilogue than a sequel, Rogue falls short of delivering a full-fat experience.
-
Nov 13, 2014It's a game that you've basically already played, by the name of Black Flag. That doesn't mean everything is to despise in this more of the same, namely a lot of gameplay content, some good action sequences and a couple of interesting assassinations.
-
Nov 12, 2014Assassin's Creed: Rogue is conformist and well-done but it has no ambition. Shay is a Templar, a rude new protagonist who reveals new secrets of the whole saga. Too many sea battles and very uninteresting murders or traditional missions.
-
Dec 12, 2014Being a Templar is not nearly as interesting as being a pirate.
-
Nov 28, 2014Play this videogame about playing videogames in order to make the videogame you are playing.
-
Nov 15, 2014Story aside, so much of Rogue feels redundant, repetitive, and ultimately in need of reinvention.
-
CD-ActionFeb 7, 2015The biggest disappointment for me was that although you play as a Templar, it has almost no influence on gameplay. The historical backdrop is not exciting at all and it’s pretty obvious that the whole game was designed so that the assets from Assassin’s Creed III and IV could be reused. The whole naval module borrowed from Black Flag is still fantastic, but after having played 7 games of the series I need something better than just more of the same. [01/2015, p.46]
-
Nov 17, 2014Maybe the big lesson is that Assassin’s Creed doesn’t have much left to say, or to offer. Maybe all of us, Assassins, Templars, players and developers, need to take a break.
-
Nov 14, 2014Assassin's Creed Rogue offers more of the same, both at sea and on land. While the attractive combination of naval battles and playing murderer on land is fun, the game simply fails to live up to expectations.
-
Nov 13, 2014It was a decent entry into the catalog of games for the series and ties itself to the other titles wonderfully, but short of being a bookmark between two landmark titles, Rogue simply doesn’t bring anything new in terms of gameplay.
-
Nov 18, 2014Shay Cormac is the most mature character of the franchise. His motives are believable, his destiny comprehensible. The team draws a vivid picture of the former antagonists – but the recycled mechanics lack this depth even more with this ending to the North America trilogy.
-
Edge MagazineJan 9, 2015Assuming you're simply content with content, Ubisoft busies you with donkey work. [Jan 2014, p.110]
-
Dec 18, 2014Somewhere beneath the threadbare cloak Rogue is wearing, last year’s far superior title exists and as such it’s not a disaster, but a missed opportunity seemingly not given enough time.
-
Nov 19, 2014The promise of playing a Templar is the only new appeal of Assassin's Creed Rogue. Everything else was already shown and done last year with Black Flag. The experience is solid but still disappointing.
-
Nov 13, 2014While walking in the shoes of a Templar sounds promising, Assassin's Creed Rogue's dull story, uninspired characters, and largely recycled visuals offer little the franchise hasn't already done better.
