I must say that I was actually very impressed with the sounds in SWAT: Global Strike Team.
-
The presentation and setting aren't always quite up to par, but that's forgivable when the game's underlying action is so solid.
-
PSM MagazineThough the missions are somewhat short (they average fifteen minutes in length) they possess a great deal of replayability, thanks to the fact that you can solve each one in so many different ways. [Dec 2003, p.50]
-
The game is literally begging for a random scenario generator. Truth be told, creating one shouldn't be too hard either.
-
TotalGames.netThis isn't the most gratifying FPS game out there, or is it the deepest but it does have its place. You all know us, you know what we do for a living so you should realise that we really don't like saying that a game would make an ideal rental.
-
While not the most polished title on the market, theres plenty between the voice-recognition and the various tactics available to make SWAT: Global Strike Team a worthwhile endeavor.
-
If you are a tactical shooter, this isn't your game. It's the combination of many small parts from different genres so it will probably only appeal to the casual fan.
-
The levels are linear, the enemy AI is not very smart, and the game world feels weak even with the background chatter of your teammates and the constant radio contact with your superiors. Overall, SWAT: Global Strike Team is a good but imperfect game.
-
Surprisingly a solid FPS game, offering simplistic controls and a fun gameplay environment.
-
The first-person shooter action doesn't compare with the likes of "Half-Life" or "Red Faction" and the team-based strategy element couldn't carry the night vision goggles of either "SOCOM" release.
-
Controls are solid, graphics are passable, and the upgradable weapons are a nice touch. [Dec 2003, p.150]
-
SWATs action isnt of the highest caliber. But with 21 levels, some cool concepts, and great multiplayer support, its a fine rental for most and an enjoyable mission for FPS fans.
-
It'll make for a pretty good rental, especially if you have a headset lying around.
-
Edge MagazineThere are neat touches: you've got infinite ammo, brilliantly, and inhaling gas leaves you with a temporary cough that ruins your aim but it needs a few more tactics to make it more than the sum of its admittedly solid parts. [Christmas 2003, p.116]
-
GMR MagazineThe novelty of yapping it up boosts this game from mere mediocrity into a somewhat-intriguing solid title. [Dec 2003, p.86]
-
A very average game that is perhaps worth a weekend rental. There's too many other games that are more fun out now to give this game a better rating.
-
Despite the crushing averageness that SWAT displays in the visuals and the by the numbers level design, it's a strange experience to reflect on how much we enjoyed it.
-
Official U.S. Playstation MagazineA competent shooter for gamers not quite ready for "Rainbow Six" - despite the questionable feature of essentially letting you command your team to do everything required, which almost means you're having the A.I. finish the game for you. [Nov 2003, p.142]
-
Play MagazineThe most interesting shakeup to the action is the emphasis being placed on incapacitating thugs instead of always going in with guns set on blood-thirsty kill, but this idea works much better in theory, growing old fast and never playing out like you might expect. [Dec 2003, p.82]
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyShawn's right about the wonky enemy A.I., and SWAT's crude, blocky graphics feel seriously dated. Some exciting teamwork potential exists (especially in co-op missions), but sloppy execution bogs it down. [Dec 2003, p.192]
-
Thoroughly mediocre.
