Cheat Code CentralI've already admitted I'm not the biggest Star Wars fan and I found Bounty Hunter dripping with entertainment value.
-
A joy to play.
-
Although not one the best games of the year, it still has a number of redeeming qualities and if youre a fan of either Star Wars or third person shooters, you wont be disappointed.
-
Controlling and moving around is simple enough, but once you have to start doing several things at once it can get confusing and difficult.
-
The game is still incredibly fun too play though, and makes good use of its true 3D stature.
-
Despite all the things Jango can do, control is streamlined and intuitive... A rock-solid action title that should keep Fett fans very happy.
-
Whats the point of eliminating wave after wave of identical baddie if you cant even buy anything worthwhile with the credits earned? My advice: keep your hard earned credits and use them to put a bounty on the head of the poor schlup that implemented the moronic money system.
-
The best part is to finally be able to control a cool villain outside of the confined restrictions of a shooter or fighting game.
-
Although it is hampered with framerate issues and a bit of a clumsy interface, the game delivers on mostly every other aspect.
-
If LucasArts can clean up that collision detection issue, it would be a near-perfect third person action engine for future releases.
-
GameNowFlawed, but fun. [Feb 2003, p.43]
-
netjakPlagued with some serious frame-rate problems and some rather questionable control decisions by Lucas, it still comes out as a good game worth at least a weekend rental.
-
A painful save system demands countless restarts and all but assures general frustration. On the whole, Bounty Hunter establishes itself as a worthy, yet flawed offering.
-
It is also, bizarrely, needlessly fiddly to walk in a straight line. Its almost as if the game is expecting you to strafe as your viewpoint veers to the left and right, causing you to correct the movement on a constant basis.
-
PSM MagazineGripes aside, Bounty Hunter still brings plenty of clever puzzles and exploration elements to the table in conjunction with one of the best presentations around. [Jan 2003, p.28]
-
It has strong characters and a story that's better plotted than the last movie, quite frankly. If only that camera was a little more tame.
-
The game by itself, is sort of bland and unexciting because of the lack of variety.
-
Serves up some decent platforming elements, and blasting hordes of opposition is fun to a certain extent, but there are so many trifling aspects to the experience that youll probably want to give up before you have a chance to appreciate the games interesting storyline.
-
Unfortunately the execution is extremely poor and not at all what we could have hoped for, at the end of the day this is just another action title with a Star Wars license blasted across it.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyA horrible camera often shakes uncontrollably like a drunken Corellian, and sloppy controls tend to make you feel just as uncoordinated. [Feb 2003, p.138]
-
Official U.S. Playstation MagazineI didnit dig the hassle of switching from ID scope to ideal weapon when six angry Gran would suddenly start shooting my way. [Jan 2003, p.122]
-
The camera is pretty awful, requiring way too much fussing by the player to maintain a clear field of view.
-
This is a very simple, very brainless third person shooter for people who want to be Jango Fett it wont challenge for a spot on your Christmas list, but it wont have you crossing anybody off yours if it finds its way into your stocking.
-
Game InformerWith an archaic graphics engine, dreadfully awful camera tracking, extensive load times, and some of the most atrocious mission challenges known to man, it becomes quite clear where this game went wrong. [Jan 2003, p.89]
-
Even if its technical issues were resolved, you'd still be left with a flawed, boring game design that fails to capitalize on the inherent coolness of its theme and character.
-
Unfortunately, the game has some pretty glaring shortcomings all around, and while the design might have looked solid on paper, it just didn't make for a fun, engaging, or good-looking game.
-
Could have been great, but relies too heavily on the "Jango Fett is cool" idea, and doesn't have the depth of gameplay needed to hold most people's interest.
-
It sounds great, as all Star Wars games do, but the graphics are bland at best and nauseating at worst, and the action is a redundant mess of blaster fire and jumping puzzles.
-
Entertainment WeeklyThe extra-large level maps offer vertiginous expanses to traverse, and since half the game forces you to zip from ledge to ledge, this leads to nagging depth-perception problems. [15 Nov 2002, p.143]
-
There are times when the frame rate staggers at an almost sickening pace. Couple this with a camera that moves like its suspended on a strand of stringy taffy, and you can quickly see why this game is so hard to look at, let alone play.
-
Play MagazineFlat control, annoying fish-eye perspective, and a schizophrenic camera that never settles down. [Jan 2003, p.80]
-
The possibilities for some genuine bounty hunting fun are in there, but too many kinks exist for this particular mercenary to make it to the big time.
