This is, for all intents and purposes the same game that was released for the DC over a year ago. It was great then, it's still great now.

Adds nothing to the well-worn formula but wraps everything up in a glossy package which makes the previous outings look like primary school projects. This is classic Resi at it's finest.

A necessary part of any adventure gamer’s balanced breakfast…Masterful storytelling and superb graphics. [Sept 2001, p.144]
  4. Players who haven’t experienced Code: Veronica need to. It’s to die for.
  5. Little more than a slightly enhanced port of an already excellent game.

It is another fantastic foray into survival horror by Capcom, who have successfully taken the genre started by "Alone in the Dark" and turned it into four of the most thrilling and fun-filled gaming experiences around.

After having played so many Resident Evil games, I want more from it. I want better controls, less ludicrous key-searching missions, and more forgiving camera angles, for starters.

This PS2 port includes slightly enhanced graphics and some new cutscenes. While the game hasn't aged very well, it's still good. Using 2001 standards, I would rate this version with a 9 out of 10 . This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I first played this I didn't like it very much, thought it was kinda boring and too cartoony looking for a horror game. But as I kept playing I really started getting into it and in my opinion it's actually one of the funnest games in the series, as well as the longest. This game could easily take you weeks to beat. However even though this game is super long, not even the amount of character development saved this game from cheese... I still laughed when Steve died. BUT I digress. This is a great game even on it's own, definitely worth a play if you can commit to a 25 hour long play. Expand

I think I only did the first half (as there are two halves to this game). But that experience was so memorable that I'm positive of my rating.

Graphics, sound, and controls are ok.
Voice acting borders on B movie (just like any RE game, especially the first).
However, the environments, gameplay flow, difficulty and different scenarios overall are so very memorable. The graveyard, the giant worm, the bats in the tower on the hill, the moving body bag, the trapped researcher... Every room is worth remembering. A prison island is truly a terrifying place for a zombie outbreak. There's a little bit of backtracking, but that's always been part of these games, avoiding zombies you couldn't previously handle. You can very easily run out of ammo, especially at the beginning, and you do need to save it for later boss fights; I think this works great in the survival horror setting, and adds a sort of pressure to make sure you handle things properly which I personally find very engaging, as you shouldn't be reckless in these kinds of games.

If you like classic Resident Evil, this game easily fits in as a sequel to the originals. I really wish they'd remake this one!
