I am a huge fan of Quake and enjoy a game of Diablo every now and then. But neither Quake nor Diablo held my interest for as long as Zax has. The reason: it just plain rocks.
-
If you like isometric action games, you'll love Zax. It may not be new, creative, or genre bending, but it sure is fun.
-
Zax's raw emphasis on action is its most severe and debilitating limitation, but the simplistic, refreshing, and enjoyable control scheme by which this action is delivered is at the same time its most redeeming and distinguishing quality.
-
Zax is simple and repetitive in the same way that simple and repetitive arcade games of the past offered action-packed, addictive entertainment.
-
PC GamerZax is good fun, though it suffers from too much déjà vu. [Feb 2002, p.65]
-
A classic shoot 'em up, plain and simple, and it's a damn good one.
-
Computer Gaming WorldThe buggiest game Ive ever played: I stopped counting types and incidents of crashes after 45 train wrecks spanning multiple, top-of-the-line computers at our lab. [Jan 2002, p.110]
