I unsubbed after only a few days since I started playing Dragonflight, because I really don't want to support a company that is giving their players the same old content just with different colors on it.
How hard can it be to make this game more player friendly?
More social and less racist by removing that strict racial segregation system for factions? Why do they keep such outdated restrictions in the first place?
Why aren't they more up to date with it's graphics and customisations? With player housing and such?
Nothing of that sort can be find in this game.
The world feels very empty. If you only do certain activities like raiding and m+ then you’re quickly going to run out of things to do. I’ve spent countless of hours just flying around farming and I realize how bad that is so I stopped doing it. Crafting is just bad at this point and I really wish they would have put that effort to actual fun stuff like player housing, or again, creating new short intro stories for all races, so that they can start neutral like Pandaren and Evoker. Instead they give us this halfbaked crafting system, that almost nobody seems to enjoy from what I've heard.

Daily raw gold sources such as emissaries or callings are no longer provided, and weekly raw gold sources have been reduced.
    Mission tables are not available.
The best ways of earning gold through professions are restricted to personal crafting orders.
Racial segregation, which doesn't allows players to choose their favorite faction, thus players are still dictated by the devs, which faction to choose, if they want to look a certain way in the game.
Most crafting professions require crafting orders in order to earn skill and knowledge points.
Weekly quests provide no skill gains and only miniscule knowledge gains.
Painfully outdated graphics in many zones and cities.
Still very few and uneven customization options for playable races.
Outdoor elites and rares are tuned like dungeon enemies.
PvP quests are too frustrating due to grouped up, geared players and unbalanced classes.
Dracthyr can only use blood elf and human for visage, instead of all races.

Dragonflight is better than battle for Azeroth and shadowlands... yes, though that isn't really anything to brag about. The former expansions were really bad.

I'd like to give my take on some of the things, which people discuss here.

Beginning with the story... well, it is not easy to continue on the shattered ground the former expansions left us with. The story in those expansions were painfully bad. So I would at least say that Dragonflight is a bit more down to earth and that is a good thing.
The story isn't really amazing, but it goes in a better direction now.
I do understand the frustration however regarding all the loose ends in Azeroth. Especially all the losses of the Alliance, with Aszhara, Ashenvale, darkshore and stormgarde, Theramore, Gilneas and Teldrassil. Some of these zones are waiting for over a decade to get updated and are still shown in their demolished state.
Yes, that is indeed sad and it takes too long, I agree. However I think there is at least some small hope now for a new tree in Dragonflight. Would be nice to get all those zones updated, yes, but at least there is hope.

I think that brings me to the next point of criticism.
The visuals should be upgraded, yes. Honestly I don't know what to add here. For the money we pay for the game there should be higher standards. Don't really think anyone would disagree on that.

The drakthyr aren't that innovative, true. Only one class and a familiar story if you played demon hunters back in Legion. However the way this race uses it's wings and tail is in my opinion really nicely done. Personlly I have fun with that race.

Racism and lgbtq, probably the most controversial part.
Yes, it is true, that there are no genders anymore, if you create a character. However body 1 and 2 still have the same features as male and female and personlly I find the lgbtq stuff in the game not as on the nose as it is here described. So even if you don't like it, you don't see it everywhere like some people claim.
Racial segregation is there with the factions Alliance and Horde and how their races are treated, true. By definition that is probably a form of racism. I can't play a Draenei for example and stay Horde and in my opinion yes, that is a very outdated mindset and I too wish, that those kind of restrictions are removed as soon as possible. It would give players so much more freedom in the game.

With the island for new characters there isn't even a starter zone needed for all the races. They could get some tents or a building or a ship... something like that in the main hubs and are ready to go. Just change some voice lines and each faction gets all races. Would be pretty amazing.

    Dragonriding and Guild Wars II.
I can't really comment on that since I've never played guild wars. So I don't know, if the animations are copied. Personlly I had fun with dragon riding in wow though. Could be better, but it is still fun.

Professions are a mess because of the overall amount of bugs, exploits and stealth nerf, which lead to a quite frustrating experience.
    Some examples:
Instransparent breaking points for higher quality items. Sometimes the required points for a higher quality are met, but it’s still lower quality. This has already been reported on beta and obviously not been fixed. Exploit for Artisans

Exploit for Artisans rep, where some people just switched between all professions and got their rep so high they could buy all the good stuff and have a huge advantage in the economy.
The Alchemy exploit from the start of the expansion. Some people finished the experiments countless times and got all Alchemy recipes on one day. There was no rollback, no bans, nothing.
    Big stealth nerf to Fishing.
    Other issues:
Huge amount of lags in some zones.
Outdated looking gear, customisation options, race models - for some races at least and outdated visuals in Kalimdor, Eastern Kingdoms and Northend.
Evoker is op, thus pvp is still a mess with so many unbalanced classes.
Same old faction restrictions, both for races that are stuck in only one facion and all the limitations for social interactions between players.
The new ui keeps resetting for some reason.
Lore is... well, very focused on love couples this expansion.
Too many reskins and reused assets instead of actual new stuff.

A mediocre expansion at best, a rather underdeveloped game at worst.

Things I like: The animations of Evoker. Awesome looking attacks and a funny dance. The new zone. Very beautiful. The evoker gets at least for wow standards a bit more customisations. Dragon riding, because it means we can fly right away without grinding. No dense faction war so far. Less chores. Talent trees.

    Murloc quest.

    Things I don't like:
Evoker is just a reskin and not a new model, can only be one class, it can only be a male blood elf and a female human in visage form. Unlike all the other dragons, who can be whatever race they want to be.
Rest of Azeroth, at least all zones before wod look hideous with such outdated visuals.
All races still have almost no customisation options. Seriously, it is 2022. What we get here is laughable. It is also rather toxic to give some races almost no options at all, while others get in comparision a lot more.
Still racial segregation like other mentioned aswell. 2022 and still racism in wow. Sorry, but that is just a no go. Let me finally have my dark iron in the Horde. Not a fan of a racist faction system at all. Never was. All races need to start neutral.
I still miss player housing in this mmo. Again, it is 2022 and no player housing...

This game plays like a Beta version.
It's insane how many bugs there are. Climbing quests, more often than not, are a mess. Hunts in Azure span 9 out of 10 times are bugged aswell. World boss, yep, also bugged. Multiple quests are bugged and don't reward you or aren't even clickable.
Considering how expensive this game is for players... no thanks. I don't spend anymore money on it. Bugs

Considering how expensive this game is for players... no thanks. I don't spend anymore money on it. Bugs aren't the only thing, which "bug" me about this game however, but so many other people already spoke about it on metacritic, so I would only echo them, I guess.
Like the horrible, horrible! looking graphics in older zones. Like... wtf is going on in this game?
As a new player... it truly feels as if they haven't spent money on wow since it first came out and that was around 2005 I think. Like seriously, the graphics are outdated.... really, really outdated and don't even get me started on those clunky character models, especially for male humans, Worgen and night elves. They look ugly, so very ugly. Why aren't those things updated? Aswell as the older zones?
Or are the devs of the opinion everyone would just buy a level boost instead of leveling through these zones? And even than, Stormwind for example is a main hub and despite of that it too looks extremely outdated. What are the devs doing with all the money they get from the players? It's really a shame.
And what is it about the racist faction system? I wasn't sure, if I should point that out, because some people might tend to call you woke and stuff, but my god is the system with Horde and Alliance racist. xD Seeing how other players pointed it out on metacritic however, I definitively want to criticize it, too.
Sorry, but being a specific race should not!!! define a faction loyalty. That is just wrong on so many levels. Jeez... Even if Horde and Alliance start yet another pointless war in the future, there is absolutely no reason to keep racial segregation. An Alliance Tauren can fight a Horde Tauren, just like all the other races can fight against eachother. Like Pandaren and Evoker they all need to have free will and free choice, instead of a hivemind mentality.

This game sure is something else, but not in a good way. I tried it for a few months and unfortunately I don't plan on playing it anymore.
I don't feel like it is worth it's money, seeing how the devs don't care for their world and races and on top of that value very questionable mindsets.

Renaming reputation for example into renown doesn’t make them any less tedious. It's still a grind fest.
Primal storms events are very lackluster, not to mention all the lags and bugs in general.
Group Loot definitely hasn’t been a massive hit and leaves many players frustrated.
Another frustrating factor of course is the strict division of playable races between factions. This game is the only big game out there, which activly makes you play stuff you don't want to, just because Ion and his crew of devs is holding on to a racist faction system as the foundation in warcraft. Enough with the dumb compromises already and let players play the faction they like and have them the races they want.
Vault still generates duplicate items to what players have equipped. Feels not really rewarding.
The Inspiration Catalyst takes 6 weeks to appear. Stop with all the time gating already.
    Loot is still terribly scarce.
Dragon riding is an ok feature, but not comparable with normal flying and only allowing dragon riding in the zone is another bad limitation.
Old zones like the warfronts in bfa for example didn't receive any updates whatsoever and are left as never ending loops. It is annoying that they are treating their game as a patchwork rug. It also shows in the outdated graphics.
Vault is still limited to 1 item out of a potential 9.
    The story is rather disjointed.
Professions are horribly designed in this expansion.
Customization options are simply a joke in this game.

But even if the world wouldn't look like a patchwork rug, the lore is just overall really bad and full of many, many retcons, that make you cringe, if you spent even the smallest amount of time trying to follow the lore from the start.

Speaking of a patchwork rug, the same goes for the visuals. you will find newer visuals inbetween lots and lots of outdated visuals, that look as if they haven't been updated for decades.

Customization options... this is a mmo, yet the customizations are... well, almost not there for playable characters. And what is it with this toxic attempt of the devs to give some races noticeably more options than others?

Speaking of races, this is the only game I know of in this age with open racism for it's races. If it would treat racial segregation as a bad thing, then I could let it slide, but open racism is treated as essential and good for the two playable factions.
Races are separated between factions, so if you like a specific race you can't pick one of the two factions. Do I need to add more? It's crazy that such a toxic and racist system is still existing in the year 2023.

The game design is also not very social. It doesn't allow us to be in a guild with players of the other faction or run lfrs or just simply trade or talk with such players. Talk about toxic game design... They really butchered the gameplay experience in a lot of aspects.

Also as someone coming from other games, where is the basic mmo stuff like dyeable gear and player housing? Warcraft is for some reason all about running m+ and raiding. The whole mmorpg feeling is completly lost in wow. It feels like an e-sport game.

Professions are overly complicated and a grind fest.

Speaking of grind, we aren't even allowed to play through the whole story in Dragonflight, because it is locked behind renown.

I also don't understand why they sell us customization options like Mecha Gnomes, Kul Tiran, Lightforged Draenei, Dark Iron, High Mountain Tauren, Zandalari etc. as entirly new races. Is an overweight human an entirly new human race or what? The mentality of the devs is really something else. Or gnomes with disabilities are apparently also a complete new race. Interesting...

And what is it with these unbalanced classes? Didn't the devs check how bad the situation is for some classes?

Well, I just quit this game. It's really a mess.

It is good to have flying without that annoying grind we had in the previous expansions. For farming and similar things it is overall very impractical though. Normal flying with a higher speed would be better. Unfortunatly normal flying and mounts aren't allowed on the dragon isles, because this game is still all about restricting players as much as possible.

Speaking of restrictions, I'm glad more and more people start to criticize the racist faction system, because it really is racist and brings out the worst in some players, who use curse words and what not against other races in this game in chat.
Yes, it's just a game, but that doesn't excuse the toxic behavior, which racial segregation evokes in the wow community, which more often than not insult other players just because of the races they'd like to play.
I never liked how the wow devs force us to choose a faction based on the the races we want to be. That's very toxic and you really have to wonder, why such things are still in the game. It's also just unnatural to strictly divide races like this, as if they woudn't have any free will. As other people pointed out, a very outdated mindset.

I thought a little about some races, which would probably be the easiest to start with, if not all races would get neutral right away.

Easy Alliance races to start with for Horde:
Lightforged Draenei, Mecha Gnomes, Dark Iron Dwarf, Kul Tiran, Gnomes, Draenei.

Lightforged Draenei and Mecha Gnomes are on top of the list, because it makes zero sense for them not to be neutral.

Dark Iron Dwarves, because there are more DIDs hostile towards the Alliance than the ones under Moira. So there surely are some, who would join the Horde. Not to mention that their whole being and look is Horde like, more so than some current Horde races btw.

Kul Tiran, because some of them already worked with the Horde against the Alliance, so there are obviously groups, who would prefer the Horde.

Gnomes, because firstly there already is a love story between a Gnome and Goblin and secondly some Gnomes surely would like to have access to Goblin's tech.

As for Draenei, well they are very forgiving and they would be a good package together with LFD.

Easy Horde races to start with for Alliance:
Highmountain Tauren, Nightborne, Goblins, Vulpera, Blood Elves, Tauren

Highmountain, Nightborne and Goblins, because it makes zero sense for them not to be neutral.

Vulpera, similar to Goblins are traders. So taking a group of traders from Kul Tiras or elsewhere for the Alliance would be very easy.

Blood Elves as High Elves already are in the Alliance. Just take away demon hunters and they are good to go.

Tauren, more than enough neutral clans. So just take one, who wants to help the Alliance.

It doesn't take much to come up with good reasons for all races being neutral and it would give players more freedom and take away some of all the toxcity in this game.
Would probably be a reason for me to resub, even though wow would still lack many features in general and is pretty far behind for a game in 2023. But at least I could finally play the faction I actually like instead of being stuck in a faction I don't like at all.

For everyone searching for honest opinions, here is my advise after reading some reviews myself: You can ignore the extremes.
Dragonflight is not a 0, there are some nice things in this expansion, however, it is also definitely not a 10.
Those, who claim this game would be flawless are lying straight in your face and want to push a better score for a very mediocre and way too expensive game, that took a lot of losses due to the horrible decisions of the devs over the last couple of years.
However those, who only complain about the amount of lgbtq+, that was put in to the game aren't really a good source of criticism about the game itself either.

With that out of the way, personally I would give Dragonflight a 5 out of 10 at best and here is why:

    Pro:
The new zone is really beautiful, like all new zones and even though most of the npcs and nature elements you see there are only reskins of old models, it still looks great.

The music is also very nice.

Less grinding and chores than usual.

The talent trees from vanilla are back.

No more ridiculous and brain afk faction war stories so far.

    Cons:

    Graphic:
Yes, the new zone looks nice... however the rest of the world really doesn't. It's been almost 2 decades, yet despite of all the money for the montly sub costst, the additional store and the costs or each new expansion we have to pay, there ist no overhaul regarding older zones.
Azeroth looks broken and like a very dirty patchwork rug with graphics, that hasn't be upgraded for over a decade.
I saw someone mentioning Stormwind and yes, that is probably the best example. It contains trees, buildings, statues, a sunny skybox, ships, some animal npcs and those poor, poor lion heads, that are still using the same graphic they had since the beginning.
I had to laugh as I've read how someone described that 5 lion head or so had been updated, while the rest was just left there with their old graphics.
It becomes clear very fast, that the devs are not putting the work in to the game, that they should.
Same goes for the character models and customisation options, which just don't give you what you would expect for a game in 2022, especially for such a high price.
    Really disappointing.

    Factions and racial segregation:
I'd also like to agree on the criticism regarding the racist faction system in wow.
As much as I like it to have 2 opposing factions in this game, the way they are handled is beyond toxic and resulted in a very serious faction imbalance. Instead of fixing the problem however, the devs made the problem worse by various acts of favoritsm.
Someone mentioned the destruction of various Alliance zones, aswell as putting all the mainstream races in Horde and even though I main Horde... because otherwise you don't get anything done anymore due to the lack of players on the Alliance side, I fully agree on that statement.
Unfortunately the devs made the situation worse again with Dragonflights by giving the Horde access to the female human model, which leaves absolutely no reason to play Alliance.
All mainstream races – blood elves, updated night elves in nightborne, Vulpera and now humans are found in the Horde.
And here of couse lies one of the biggest problems of the entire game. Racism is one of the main reasons, why there is a faction imbalance in the first place.
The race you want to play decides what faction you are allowed to join. It is a very archaic and toxic mentality, that should have been gone years ago, but here we are.
And I can see why people think of the lgbtq+ content as being hypocritical with all the racism going on in this game.
In order to bring balance back and just in general in order to get rid of such toxicity, racial segregation has to go. Every race should be allowed to be part of both factions.
Additionally of course the devs have to let us play with the other faction asap, at least make it optional.

    The Evoker:
Unfortunately this is not a new race, but by definition in wow only an allied race.
What we have here is nothing but a female Worgen reskin. A female human and a male blood elf model for visage and that's it. Don't treat it as a new race, it really isn't.
Their story is not innovative. It plays very similar to the story of demon hunters, which resulted in a rather boring experience.
They can only be one class, which makes them also rather unappealing.

The lore: So far they are ignoring all the big mistakes they made during bfa and shadowlands. Warfronts keep being warfronts despite the war being over and in general are older zones all in different time zones, which makes the world... again... look like a patchwork rug, not only because of the graphics, but also because of the lore. Conclusion: There is some nice content you can do with this expansion, however I can't recommend it due to all it's flaws and the expensive price.

I left feeling like I wasted my money yet again to be honest. This was such a loss in my book all around.

Talent trees? Well, how about they would have never removed those in the first place?
New race? Good joke. Just a scaly female Worgen and unlike other dragons we can't even use all races for visage. Why? Because the devs love restrictions.
Changeable ui? Ohhhh, great! wow reached the year 2010.
Dragon flying? Can I copy your homework, GW2?
New zone? How about you would update like 80% of the game, that is still using visuals from the early 2000s?
Actual modern customisation options with sliders, color palettes and such? Nah, we don't keep up with time here at Activision Blizzard.
Can we finally socially and freely interact with people from the other faction, joining guilds and stuff? You know, stuff you usually do in a social game like a mmo? Woah! Being social in wow? Of course not!
Did the devs finally remove racial segregation and let all playable races have their own free will and with that all races start neutral? No! We wanna keep racism as a foundation in wow. B- but look, we are totally progessive by removing genders! Right?!

I could go on. Just not a game worth spending time and money on.

Speaking of low effort, there are no new customisation options for the other races. It is so embarrassing how far behind this game is... in so many aspects. Same goes for visuals in so many zones. They never fix old zones. They just keep them with their old visuals and outdated lore like the warfronts to name only one of many examples, which are stuck in an endless loop, despite the dumb and forced war being over. Or other zones, who are literally using graphics from 2005... it is so embarrassing how this game looks.

Dragon riding is fine, but it is copied over from guild wars. So you can hardly praise Blizzard for this feature.

Updating the archaic graphics, bringing customization options to a modern standard, removing frustrating restrictions like faction locked races, guilds, lfr, lfd and so on.... nothing. They did nothing of that sort.
No visual updates, no limitations removed, no real features... no, dragon flying is not new, it is stolen from another game and they didn't even care to use a new skeleton/model for the so called "new" playable race.

Where to begin... So... we aren't allowed to choose male or female, while creating a character... fine then? But why do we have to be genderless in order to not offend anyone, while at the same time being forced to participate in a racist faction system? Why are almost all races treated as if they have a hivemind, instead of free will?

Recycling old races and mixing them into one is not what I would call a new race.

Character customisations are not only extremely limited, they are also extremely uneven between the races, so that some races have a lot more options than others. Just way?

Speaking of races, racism is still the very foundation of this game. The devs force teir players to use racial segregation in order to choose a faction.

That is definitely not a new race and shouldn't be treated as one.

The new zone looks nice and I can give some points for that, but what is up with all the other zones in that game? You would think with such age old graphics, that you are still stuck in 2004. Very, very bad looking.

Unfortunately they didn't update the playable races, which means that races like night elves for example are still stuck with a very ugly looking model and what is it with these devs, that males always look like they are on stereoids and cranky old man? In general male... or now "body 1" humanoids look like clunky gorillas. They really aged very poorly.

Dragon riding... yeah well, others already criticized that. At least give credit, if you have to copy other people's homework, Blizzard.

I also noticed all the lgbtq pandering. I mean, fine, if you have to. But how about you remove the obvious toxic aspect in your game?
    Racism.
It's the very first thing you let your players participate in.

Like wtf, Blizzard? You can't claim to be progressive while at the same time keeping racial segregation of all things.

I can't even with these toxic devs... That shows more than obviously, that all the lgbtq stuff is also nothing but a facade they put on.

    What else about this expansion...

Well, for up to 90 Euro on top of the monthly sub costs you get a new race, which consists of humans with too much make-up and female Worgen with scales, tails and wings.

I don't know why I even gave wow another try. Guess I was full of copium...

As an Alliance player I hoped that the devs would finally stop being so biased and start caring for the Alliance... I was wrong. Very, very wrong.

To give you some examples for what I mean by the devs being biased and toxic:

    - Teldrassil, Theramore, Gilneas, Ashenvale and probably some areas I forgot were all destroyed by the Horde and we never got them back in game.
They still are presented as being destroyed and under attack.
    - Stormgarde and darkshore are also destroyed by the Horde and are now stuck in a never ending loop of being a warfront.
Again, we never got them back.
All these zones and cities are left looking like trash now, thanks to the Horde.

Yet the Horde never lost that much and even though they were the aggressor, attacking Alliance zones again and again, they got Undercity immediately back, after they poisoned that place themselves.
    - Night Elves and Worgen meanwhile are getting ignored and are still being refugees in Stormwind.
And they didn't even care to update Stormwind. It uses graphics from 2004...

So the abuser is being rewarded and the victims... nothing. How fair.

    Playable races:

    - Space goats for Alliance vs the only halfway decent looking humanoid race in that game, blood elves for Horde,
Updated night elves/nightborne with now even more customisation options than night elves with a gigantic zone, the biggest city in the entire game and rich lore for the Horde vs copy&paste blood elves with terrible and very few hair styles, almost no customisation options, no zone, no city... they literally live in small tents on a rock... and almost no lore for the Alliance.
    - Better looking trolls, that use the night elf model vs... overweight and way too big humans...

    - And the biggest insult, the only new race Vulpera, a mainstream fox race, that could be straight out of a Disney movie vs... a customisation option for gnomes, the least played race in the entire game.

And these are only some examples of the devs and their toxic behavior. Yet they claim to have no idea why there are almost no players left on the Alliance... sigh

With dragonflights I hoped that we could at least get a zone for the night elves back and Gilneas for the Worgen. Nothing. We got nothing.

Not only that, with the new dragon race they gave the Horde the very last halfway decent looking race on the Alliance side for the Horde, female human + the female Worgen model on top of that.

Just wow. Well then, this was my last attempt of giving this game a chance. I don't want to be forced to pick the favorite faction of the devs. in order to be able to play this game, because the few, who are left playing this game are almost all on the red side.

World of Warcraft: Dragonflight is somehow a breath of fresh air and a celebration of classic design principles in equal measure. The return to more dynamic, old-school talent trees enhances the class fantasy with a seasoning of new abilities across the board. At the same time, the retreat of pressuring, artificial power-gating systems promotes a more healthy gameplay loop. The game is also gorgeous, with a more promising storyline, elevated cinematic delivery mechanics, and deeper core systems which make for one of WoW's best expansions in years.

I appreciate the new interface (it needs getting used to though) and talent system (those dilemmas!), as well as changes to crafting that raise its importance. I enjoyed dragonriding a lot and found quests to be engaging, but was disappointed by dull dungeons and repetitive endgame content. World of Warcraft: Dragonflight is a pretty safe expansion and I expected a bit more from it, but I do feel it has a huge potential that could be fulfilled in the near future.
