I unsubbed after only a few days since I started playing Dragonflight, because I really don't want to support a company that is giving their players the same old content just with different colors on it.
How hard can it be to make this game more player friendly?
More social and less racist by removing that strict racial segregation system for factions? Why do they keep such outdated restrictions in the first place?
Why aren't they more up to date with it's graphics and customisations? With player housing and such?
Nothing of that sort can be find in this game.
The world feels very empty. If you only do certain activities like raiding and m+ then you’re quickly going to run out of things to do. I’ve spent countless of hours just flying around farming and I realize how bad that is so I stopped doing it. Crafting is just bad at this point and I really wish they would have put that effort to actual fun stuff like player housing, or again, creating new short intro stories for all races, so that they can start neutral like Pandaren and Evoker. Instead they give us this halfbaked crafting system, that almost nobody seems to enjoy from what I've heard.

The best ways of earning gold through professions are restricted to personal crafting orders.
Racial segregation, which doesn't allows players to choose their favorite faction, thus players are still dictated by the devs, which faction to choose, if they want to look a certain way in the game.
Most crafting professions require crafting orders in order to earn skill and knowledge points.
Weekly quests provide no skill gains and only miniscule knowledge gains.
Painfully outdated graphics in many zones and cities.
Still very few and uneven customization options for playable races.
Outdoor elites and rares are tuned like dungeon enemies.
PvP quests are too frustrating due to grouped up, geared players and unbalanced classes.

I'd like to give my take on some of the things, which people discuss here.

Beginning with the story... well, it is not easy to continue on the shattered ground the former expansions left us with. The story in those expansions were painfully bad. So I would at least say that Dragonflight is a bit more down to earth and that is a good thing.
The story isn't really amazing, but it goes in a better direction now.
I do understand the frustration however regarding all the loose ends in Azeroth. Especially all the losses of the Alliance, with Aszhara, Ashenvale, darkshore and stormgarde, Theramore, Gilneas and Teldrassil. Some of these zones are waiting for over a decade to get updated and are still shown in their demolished state.
Yes, that is indeed sad and it takes too long, I agree. However I think there is at least some small hope now for a new tree in Dragonflight. Would be nice to get all those zones updated, yes, but at least there is hope.

I think that brings me to the next point of criticism.
The visuals should be upgraded, yes. Honestly I don't know what to add here. For the money we pay for the game there should be higher standards. Don't really think anyone would disagree on that.

The drakthyr aren't that innovative, true. Only one class and a familiar story if you played demon hunters back in Legion. However the way this race uses it's wings and tail is in my opinion really nicely done. Personlly I have fun with that race.

Racism and lgbtq, probably the most controversial part.
Yes, it is true, that there are no genders anymore, if you create a character. However body 1 and 2 still have the same features as male and female and personlly I find the lgbtq stuff in the game not as on the nose as it is here described. So even if you don't like it, you don't see it everywhere like some people claim.
Racial segregation is there with the factions Alliance and Horde and how their races are treated, true. By definition that is probably a form of racism. I can't play a Draenei for example and stay Horde and in my opinion yes, that is a very outdated mindset and I too wish, that those kind of restrictions are removed as soon as possible. It would give players so much more freedom in the game.

With the island for new characters there isn't even a starter zone needed for all the races. They could get some tents or a building or a ship... something like that in the main hubs and are ready to go. Just change some voice lines and each faction gets all races. Would be pretty amazing.

    Dragonriding and Guild Wars II.
I can't really comment on that since I've never played guild wars. So I don't know, if the animations are copied. Personlly I had fun with dragon riding in wow though. Could be better, but it is still fun.

A mediocre expansion at best, a rather underdeveloped game at worst.

Things I like: The animations of Evoker. Awesome looking attacks and a funny dance. The new zone. Very beautiful. The evoker gets at least for wow standards a bit more customisations. Dragon riding, because it means we can fly right away without grinding. No dense faction war so far. Less chores. Talent trees.

    Murloc quest.

    Things I don't like:
Evoker is just a reskin and not a new model, can only be one class, it can only be a male blood elf and a female human in visage form. Unlike all the other dragons, who can be whatever race they want to be.
Rest of Azeroth, at least all zones before wod look hideous with such outdated visuals.
All races still have almost no customisation options. Seriously, it is 2022. What we get here is laughable. It is also rather toxic to give some races almost no options at all, while others get in comparision a lot more.
Still racial segregation like other mentioned aswell. 2022 and still racism in wow. Sorry, but that is just a no go. Let me finally have my dark iron in the Horde. Not a fan of a racist faction system at all. Never was. All races need to start neutral.
I still miss player housing in this mmo. Again, it is 2022 and no player housing...

Dragon flying is copied from another game, so it is what it is. By all means, it's not bad and a nice little feature. It is good to have flying without that annoying grind we had in the previous expansions. For farming and similar things it is overall very impractical though. Normal flying with a higher speed would be better. Unfortunatly normal flying and mounts aren't allowed on the dragon isles, because this game is still all about restricting players as much as possible.

Speaking of restrictions, I'm glad more and more people start to criticize the racist faction system, because it really is racist and brings out the worst in some players, who use curse words and what not against other races in this game in chat.
Yes, it's just a game, but that doesn't excuse the toxic behavior, which racial segregation evokes in the wow community, which more often than not insult other players just because of the races they'd like to play.
I never liked how the wow devs force us to choose a faction based on the the races we want to be. That's very toxic and you really have to wonder, why such things are still in the game. It's also just unnatural to strictly divide races like this, as if they woudn't have any free will. As other people pointed out, a very outdated mindset.

I thought a little about some races, which would probably be the easiest to start with, if not all races would get neutral right away.

Easy Alliance races to start with for Horde:
Lightforged Draenei, Mecha Gnomes, Dark Iron Dwarf, Kul Tiran, Gnomes, Draenei.

Lightforged Draenei and Mecha Gnomes are on top of the list, because it makes zero sense for them not to be neutral.

Dark Iron Dwarves, because there are more DIDs hostile towards the Alliance than the ones under Moira. So there surely are some, who would join the Horde. Not to mention that their whole being and look is Horde like, more so than some current Horde races btw.

Kul Tiran, because some of them already worked with the Horde against the Alliance, so there are obviously groups, who would prefer the Horde.

Gnomes, because firstly there already is a love story between a Gnome and Goblin and secondly some Gnomes surely would like to have access to Goblin's tech.

As for Draenei, well they are very forgiving and they would be a good package together with LFD.

Easy Horde races to start with for Alliance:
Highmountain Tauren, Nightborne, Goblins, Vulpera, Blood Elves, Tauren

Highmountain, Nightborne and Goblins, because it makes zero sense for them not to be neutral.

Vulpera, similar to Goblins are traders. So taking a group of traders from Kul Tiras or elsewhere for the Alliance would be very easy.

Blood Elves as High Elves already are in the Alliance. Just take away demon hunters and they are good to go.

Tauren, more than enough neutral clans. So just take one, who wants to help the Alliance.

It doesn't take much to come up with good reasons for all races being neutral and it would give players more freedom and take away some of all the toxcity in this game.
Would probably be a reason for me to resub, even though wow would still lack many features in general and is pretty far behind for a game in 2023. But at least I could finally play the faction I actually like instead of being stuck in a faction I don't like at all.

For everyone searching for honest opinions, here is my advise after reading some reviews myself: You can ignore the extremes.
Dragonflight is not a 0, there are some nice things in this expansion, however, it is also definitely not a 10.
Those, who claim this game would be flawless are lying straight in your face and want to push a better score for a very mediocre and way too expensive game, that took a lot of losses due to the horrible decisions of the devs over the last couple of years.
However those, who only complain about the amount of lgbtq+, that was put in to the game aren't really a good source of criticism about the game itself either.

With that out of the way, personally I would give Dragonflight a 5 out of 10 at best and here is why:

    Pro:
The new zone is really beautiful, like all new zones and even though most of the npcs and nature elements you see there are only reskins of old models, it still looks great.

The music is also very nice.

Less grinding and chores than usual.

The talent trees from vanilla are back.

No more ridiculous and brain afk faction war stories so far.

    Cons:

    Graphic:
Yes, the new zone looks nice... however the rest of the world really doesn't. It's been almost 2 decades, yet despite of all the money for the montly sub costst, the additional store and the costs or each new expansion we have to pay, there ist no overhaul regarding older zones.
Azeroth looks broken and like a very dirty patchwork rug with graphics, that hasn't be upgraded for over a decade.
I saw someone mentioning Stormwind and yes, that is probably the best example. It contains trees, buildings, statues, a sunny skybox, ships, some animal npcs and those poor, poor lion heads, that are still using the same graphic they had since the beginning.
I had to laugh as I've read how someone described that 5 lion head or so had been updated, while the rest was just left there with their old graphics.
It becomes clear very fast, that the devs are not putting the work in to the game, that they should.
Same goes for the character models and customisation options, which just don't give you what you would expect for a game in 2022, especially for such a high price.
    Really disappointing.

    Factions and racial segregation:
I'd also like to agree on the criticism regarding the racist faction system in wow.
As much as I like it to have 2 opposing factions in this game, the way they are handled is beyond toxic and resulted in a very serious faction imbalance. Instead of fixing the problem however, the devs made the problem worse by various acts of favoritsm.
Someone mentioned the destruction of various Alliance zones, aswell as putting all the mainstream races in Horde and even though I main Horde... because otherwise you don't get anything done anymore due to the lack of players on the Alliance side, I fully agree on that statement.
Unfortunately the devs made the situation worse again with Dragonflights by giving the Horde access to the female human model, which leaves absolutely no reason to play Alliance.
All mainstream races – blood elves, updated night elves in nightborne, Vulpera and now humans are found in the Horde.
And here of couse lies one of the biggest problems of the entire game. Racism is one of the main reasons, why there is a faction imbalance in the first place.
The race you want to play decides what faction you are allowed to join. It is a very archaic and toxic mentality, that should have been gone years ago, but here we are.
And I can see why people think of the lgbtq+ content as being hypocritical with all the racism going on in this game.
In order to bring balance back and just in general in order to get rid of such toxicity, racial segregation has to go. Every race should be allowed to be part of both factions.
Additionally of course the devs have to let us play with the other faction asap, at least make it optional.

    The Evoker:
Unfortunately this is not a new race, but by definition in wow only an allied race.
What we have here is nothing but a female Worgen reskin. A female human and a male blood elf model for visage and that's it. Don't treat it as a new race, it really isn't.
Their story is not innovative. It plays very similar to the story of demon hunters, which resulted in a rather boring experience.
They can only be one class, which makes them also rather unappealing.

The lore: So far they are ignoring all the big mistakes they made during bfa and shadowlands. Warfronts keep being warfronts despite the war being over and in general are older zones all in different time zones, which makes the world... again... look like a patchwork rug, not only because of the graphics, but also because of the lore. Conclusion: There is some nice content you can do with this expansion, however I can't recommend it due to all it's flaws and the expensive price.

For example, why is a soul rot blue magic when it doesn't feel like it meets the shadow and fire a Warlock is supposed to be. Convoke the spirits should be reskinned to be green to match the rest of the druid spells.

-it's great they removed covenants and dumb grinds but it just feels stale as an expansion.

    - the new class only came out with 2 talents. Can't stay in human form unfortunately...

-Why is dracythr a race instead of a class? Like Demon hunters are their own class but fall under blood elf or night elf. Dracythr are just a human dragon thing that cant xmog or do anything cool. Why are they considered Dracythr when it's just a dragon and a human form?

-the new flying is alright, but it literally makes the new mounts useless in cities like orgrimmar and previous mounts can't do anything in the new zones.

-I am a more casual player but I did do was mythic + and LFR. Got bored of it easily since some of the dungeons i've played IN OLD EXPANSIONS.

-It was a nice feel to it, however just stale in my opinion. I wish we could have a lot cooler talents with long cooldowns.

overally the expansion was good, but they played it safe and didn't do anything to make the game feel better besides remove all of the awful systems previously in place.

It's frustrating to spend hours battling through dungeons or raids, only to receive sub-par loot that isn't even suitable for your character's class or specialization. This system also promotes selfishness among players, as everyone is trying to snag the best items for themselves. It's a shame that Blizzard didn't address this issue before releasing the expansion.

Another major flaw is the outdated segregation of playable races. It's disappointing that players are still forced to choose between Horde and Alliance factions and cannot play as all races on either side. This limits players' choices and can lead to frustration when wanting to play a specific race on the opposite faction. It's time for Blizzard to move past this outdated system and provide players with more freedom in character creation.

The profession system in Dragonflight is also complicated and convoluted. The crafting process is needlessly complicated, making it difficult to craft useful items for your character. It's frustrating to have to spend hours researching and crafting to create something that isn't even that great. The profession system needs a complete overhaul to make it more accessible and user-friendly.

The class balancing in Dragonflight is also unimpressive. Some classes are just much more powerful than others, which leads to an unfair advantage in PvP and PvE situations. This imbalance can make the game less enjoyable for those who don't play the strongest classes, and it's an issue that needs to be addressed.

The new race, Drakthyr, is also rather uncreative. Additionally, the fact that it can't use all playable races for its visage is a letdown.

Finally, apart from the new feature of dragon riding, there aren't many new features in Dragonflight. It feels like a missed opportunity for Blizzard to introduce innovative gameplay mechanics and fresh content that would keep players invested in the game.

In conclusion, while Dragonflight has its moments, it ultimately falls short of expectations due to its flawed loot system, outdated race segregation, complicated profession system, unbalanced classes, lack of open-world content and lack of new features.

All the issues in this expansion are proof that it was rushed and wasn't thoroughly tested, all because Blizzard was desperate to try to bring back subscribers as soon as possible after the failure that was Shadowlands.

Many players are suffering from poor performance since the pre-patch dropped and Blizzard has gone completely silent about the issue. Dragonflight's main feature, Dragon Riding, is terribly broken. Blizzard attempted to copy Guild Wars 2 mount system and failed spectacularly. Dragon Riding is clunky, buggy and overall broken. The more time you spend on it, the more issues you will notice. I have gotten disconnected from the game due to collision issues during Dragon Riding over 20 times in the same day. Dragon Riding also makes all other mounts completely obsolete in the new areas as they are designed with Dragon Riding in mind.

The expansion doesn't offer anything new or exciting, it's exactly what they've offered before. The endgame consists of 4 old dungeons, 4 new dungeons and a raid. That's it, there's nothing else that is good. The rest of the endgame consists in mindless tasks such as grinding reputation for different factions or doing boring events, most of which doesn't even require you to do anything except being present during the event.

The game is also infested with bots that ruin gathering professions by teleporting from one gathering node to another and Blizzard doesn't take action against them and makes it nearly impossible for players to report them.

The expansion is also full of bugs in every aspect of the game. Broken visuals, broken abilities, broken talents, broken quests, etc. Blizzard also continues to use the Race to World First as live beta testing for the Mythic difficulty because they don't want to bother testing the raid themselves, after all, they know that the top raiders in the world will test them for free anyway.

Creative Business Unit III continues to prove being better MMO developers than Blizzard and it looks like it's never going to change.

I wish I could rate this higher. There's a lot to love. The new Race/Class combo is super fun, and can look pretty cool with the right cosmetic options. The new zones are gorgeous and a lot of great improvements has been made to the core content. Old functions are slowly getting overhauled and this really does feel like the first time WOW has played like a modern game.

But the narrative is just too poor. No matter how good an RPG is, if the dialogue is so painfully cringe-worthy that you don't even want to read it, what's the point? Unfortunately, despite all its beauty and fun gameplay, Dragonflight is not an MMO to get lost in. The dialogue and narrative are overly childish and disney-esque in a way that I doubt will appeal to its overwhelmingly adult playerbase.

The game has a good base. But Blizzard still lacks in creating content that is not only challenging but also FUN. M+ is not based on fun but based on obstructions. That is just a bad game design.

The game is decent not amazing by any means still holds a candle to Legion. If the story wouldn't be so cheesy and not fun and a bit longer. The areas are beautiful but no wonder, the art team carries the game for a while now.
The music is pretty good, some recycled parts but overall decent.
Dragon Riding is nice but buggy for now. For questing nothing really changed, still the old formula

For questing nothing really changed, still the old formula and reputation grinding, at least now it's the "fake" I respect your time aspect since it's account based, but still the same world quest and event stuff what we got for years now.
The new race, well nothing much to add other than lazy design. Overall the game is not a 0-3 but definitely not 8-10 much more a 6 at best. Final verdict: Better than Shadowlands. If you want to come back it's the same WoW formula but wrapped nicer.

With level 35 you can one shot everyone on old locations and gather loot from them for crafting effectively rising classic professions as a rocket so this system simply broken, useless and looting in old locations brings no fun at all. On the other hands balance of the dungeons is something .. extremely hard to understand. Sometimes your party using same tactic beat the boss for easy, other time with the same approach it fails completely. I know most of this came from previous addons, but why this problems didn't fix?

So blizzard says in summary - we have old content, right ... but if you want to play it - go to classic because we broke everything classic in the modern WoW.

I can imagine only reboot of the WOTLK line and completely redoing everything that was after. If you can't save old content normally - REMOVE IT, DON'T LEAVE IT BROKEN, please, Blizzard.

Also you make so many gold on quests and mobs you don't really need to use professions anymore to make money at least on mid levels, so, upon reaching 60+ you basically spending your time just rising levels and it's ... boring? Even with auto leveling. In WOTLK and BC it was interesting on the whole timeline. Quests don't feel that bad as people describe, but more empty, that's true.

All I heard about the crying hardcore fanboys is: racist factions and no housing, lol you idiots, that will never happen. Why not talking about the grinding dailies, complicated and useless professions, terrible imbalanced classes, long queued pvp and the worst: no content for weeks, even months? This expansion is going to be as bad as WoD, RIP WOW.

    It's fine.

It's not Shadowlands for sure storywise (good), but sadly, there feels like a lot less to do once you finish the main campaign (which is passable). Dragonriding is fun for a bit, but loses its luster fast. This is clearly Blizzard trying to figure out where to bring the game post-SL/BfA etc... but this feels like such an unfinished expac... more like a cheaper DLC.

It isn't bad at all, but there's very little of substance here and WoW is really showing its age at this point.

Levelling was fun, end game is no different from shadowlands and in fact worse for me personally with the addition of legacy dungeons included in the m+ rotation which I've already played to death.

Game is riddled with bugs, poor optimisation, renown system takes too long and the rewards are rubbish, too many reps to grind out, PvP is unbalanced, world quests still suck, music is good,

Overall it was fine for like 3 weeks but after that you're back to the same stuff you've been doing for the last few expansions and it's boring, not the best expansion there's been by a longshot I honestly preferred 9.0 but that's just me. Mediocre at best.

The things I like about DF:
-No mandatory progression (such as Torgast in Shadowlands)
-Talent trees returning -Dragonriding makes getting around the world feel better than before -Professions are actually engaging for a change -Completing content always gets you something. Even if you don't get gear, you're still getting valor or something so there's always progression -Content

-Content release pacing is the best it has ever been.

    Here's what I don't like:
    -The story is terrible
-It doesn't really make sense that I keep paying a monthly sub and paying for an expansion, yet the game still has microtransactions. WoW isn't so superior to the competition that it can justify this.
-They aren't exactly reinventing the wheel here. After 20 years there's really not much they can do to make the game feel fresh. They've already done just about everything their engine will allow.
-I don't generally care one way or the other about the LGBT stuff, but it feels like they prioritized finding ways to add it into the game rather than writing a good story and allowing that stuff to appear naturally within the context of the story.

Overall, the game is more fun to play than Shadowlands and BFA were. That is a low bar and I would probably have more fun playing one of the other top MMORPGs on the market, but it is a decent game. Not like the 0 reviews that are clearly just people hating on the game for the sake of hating on it.

Believe me I'm in the same boat blizzard has almost made me quit WoW entirely but they've brought me back with dragonflight let me name some of the things I like about this expansion. The lore/story is good. I love the new bad guys in this expansion. The incarnates, especially iridikron are cool and intriguing... They really do seem like an actual threat and their motivations make sense as opposed to *cough* the jailer *cough*. The story leaves you wanting more and even includes throwback moments reuniting you with old characters from even classic wow. World content is also very good. Dragon riding is VERY fun and it's an absolute blast to explore the dragon isles looking for treasures and glyphs in order to max out dragon riding. It can feel slow at first but MAN is it awesome when you max it out. Raiding feels challenging but not punishing. They really toned RNG mechanics this time around at least for heroic mode, I don't know about mythic. Mythic+ is great and you can gear up really quickly in a short amount of time. Can't comment on pdvp since I haven't pvp'd in a LOOOOONG time and never really did arena but I'm sure it's fun there too. Professions are actually worth leveling and maxing out and profession gear can even scale up to mythic ilvl pieces giving you more options on how you gear your character, and for tmog farmers out there a TON of old tmog gear previously unavailable have been made available includinng the entirety of old scholomance in this recent patch... Now the downsides... Renown at times can feel like it takes WAAAAAY too long to grind for and since you need more renown to continue chapters of the story it can feel a little draining having to do world quests to max that out. With season 2 they introduced flightstones and crests that allow you to upgrade gear. Which is good but you have to grind significantly to get these crests to upgrade them and there are different crests for different levels: "whelpling" which is basic world quest gear "drake's" which is for upgrading gear from heroic dungeons "wyrm's" which is for heroic raid gear and "aspect" which is for mythic gear... You are going to use a TON of crests in addition to flightstones when upgrading gear and they will hog your inventory once you upgrade your gear to the Max a good thing is if you have a piece that is already upgraded to max you don't need crests to get a piece of lower upgrade lvl to get tothat other piece's ilvl overall a very good expansion that is a huge stepup over the travesty of shadowlands where content droughts are short with a ton of options with how you can play the game. I recommend you check it out. It's definitely worth your time. Take it from me who was a BIIIG skeptic over this expansion. . Expand

Blizzard did 1 thing right in dragonflight. Restore 2014 warlords era pvp gearing. Theres now again just 2 sets of pvp gear, in shadowlands boosting was so rampant because every interval of 200 more rating like 1600 vs 1800 meant higher item level gear. While you can still upgrade your gear this is for the outside world item level only and means no difference in pvp combat.

The aesthetic and story are really bad. I feel like im dragontales a kids show not warcraft. Shadowlands didnt feel like wow either but it was still a cool aesthetic. Dragonflight goes back to traditional fantasy themes which is fine but im still not getting a wow vibe. The next expansion should be back to the barrens with a faction war again.

Blizzard cant make good games because they dont want to.
Dragonflight is a pretty good expension and I again joined after my firt time playing WoW in awful Battle for Azeroth.

My main problem ist that u dont play the game the game plays you.
Renownsystem is an awful mechanic that wants to force players invest dozent and dozent of time to fully enjoy a game with monthly payment.

Warlords of Draenor, Shadowlands, Battle For Azeroth. All 3 are big disaster's and were really tough experiences that led to so many leaving the game and I do not blame them one bit.

So coming into Dragonflight the question was "What can Blizzard really give to restore WoW to a better place and make the game fun again?"

Well they brought back Talent Tree's, Mythic + dungeon Rotation, Augmentation Evoker, Evoker in general, World Content (Early), Dragon Riding, ect....

They really made good strides to better the game that were extremely needed.

But, it also doesn't come without it's faults. Mythic + for healers is not fun as there is too much spike damage all the while Healers are expected to do at least 3-5 other roles and handle many forms of mechanics in them and when it goes wrong it's not a good sight. Raiding is good but there have been some big stinkers of boss fights, Overtuned classes that don't get touched until it's too late and undertuned classes that remain in the wayside and never get anything to better them. Classes/Specializations getting things that make them more desirable than the opposite leaving players that are that opposite unable to find groups because they don't bring what is basically required.

Recently some of the class problems have been being addressed such as Holy Paladin rework and the inc Rogue rework, but it's not enough.

Overall a big step up from Shadowlands, WOD and BFA but still lacking in certain areas.

Dragonflight is still de facto at the beginning of its life cycle. Still, one can't help feeling that we desperately needed an adventure like this. With all its pros and cons. [Issue#325]

World of Warcraft: Dragonflight is somehow a breath of fresh air and a celebration of classic design principles in equal measure. The return to more dynamic, old-school talent trees enhances the class fantasy with a seasoning of new abilities across the board. At the same time, the retreat of pressuring, artificial power-gating systems promotes a more healthy gameplay loop. The game is also gorgeous, with a more promising storyline, elevated cinematic delivery mechanics, and deeper core systems which make for one of WoW's best expansions in years.

I appreciate the new interface (it needs getting used to though) and talent system (those dilemmas!), as well as changes to crafting that raise its importance. I enjoyed dragonriding a lot and found quests to be engaging, but was disappointed by dull dungeons and repetitive endgame content. World of Warcraft: Dragonflight is a pretty safe expansion and I expected a bit more from it, but I do feel it has a huge potential that could be fulfilled in the near future.
