    - Mob scaling - Pointless, no feel of progression when getting better gear, just a waste of time for everyone involved.

    - Story, some of it.

The game is still in BETA despite being called a full release, if you aren't already playing, don't comeback till 8.3 atleast, its such a broken mess in its current state.

Warfront is biggest disappointment in 9 years I have been playing- just one lengthy collect/kill quest with no fluidity and with lengthy downtime between scenarios. A lot of players queuing on the first day were bored after the first run and then began queuing and going afk to simply collect gear at the end and this tactic is escalating.

PVP, worse than ever no true pvp gear and scaling for pvp and pve that does not work (gear drop for best arena damage right now)

Azerite collecting to level neck is one continuous grind that is repeating the same WQ over and over and over(no complaints on rep grinding as eventually that repetition can be ignored)

Big class imbalances being ignored weeks in

Horrible mistakes with warfront one of which gave one faction a two week edge over another on gear and an item level put into place preventing other faction from same benefit on gearing alts
Mount for alliance consists of drab horses and more drab horses.

Lots of server downtime in the first week but this has improved for most servers.

Positive: Island expeditions. Rather new concept with various options: normal, heroic, pvp, mythic. This varies the degree of difficulty. NPC upgrade in this new segment of the game is greatly improved and feel immersive. This sort of action is what Wow needs across the board in game but this would take $, something Bliz seems to be cutting corners on when it comes to new content.

Azirite armor is bad for the plain reason you will get an upgraded piece and not be able to access any of the traits until you grind your Heart of Azeroth out... which makes your gear actually feel like a downgrad since you are scaled to everything... like for Arenas you honestly should just bank your high ilevel azirite armor so you can use the lower ilevel ones to have access to all the traits. another big issue is pretty much all the new features added to the game as well have been incredibly lack luster... Warfronts are not entertaining at all, Island expeditions I literally did once and never tried it again and then the whole way "Allied races" or sub races are being handled is honestly disappointing. Expansions will probably improve over time but its launch is a complete fecal storm. The story of the actual expansion is okay... as a Hordie questing through Zandalar was alright... like it isn't a terrible zone but also isn't a good one either. Expand

    Sigh, where do we begin?

The story drops your character into the midst of another contrived race war between the factions of the Alliance and Horde. Because we didn't have five straight years of that already with Cataclysm and Mists of Pandaria.

Players are called upon to recruit new allies to the campaign with long reputation grinds in now-obsolete areas. Stubborn developers sabotage the Alliance's prospects, leaving them with underwhelming themepark mascots for some Void vs Light patch that probably won't materialize until the expansion after next. Design lead Ion Hazzikostas tells us "the Horde is there waiting for you."

But if being smugly derided with veiled accusations of Neo-Nazism for daring to suggest they finally make High Elves playable wasn't enough, Alliance players also have to deal with the developers funneling the best players to Horde for years with imbalanced racial abilities (funny how Arcane Torrent was finally "nerfed" from a silence to a dispel just in time to be faced with a ton of content that requires heavy dispelling) and then handing them a bunch of gearing advantages through the initial Warfront schedule.

But at least the questing content for Alliance is good, right? Well, sure, but after doing enough repetitive world quests to reach exalted with the three major factions on Kul Tiras, you can look forward to some 10,000g generic horses for your mount collection that look like they should have sold for 500g on a generic rep-free vendor outside of Norwington Estate.

    Moving on...

Combat at level cap is irksomely sluggish thanks to the new Azerite gearing system where three pieces of your armor will have no secondary stats, so have fun getting enough haste without mythic raid gear. The developers tried to distract from this by putting offensive buffs (and for some reason, the Ret Paladin defensive?!) on the global cooldown, which is also obnoxious.

Most of the power of this expansion-exclusive rental gear is tied up in traits that you must grind endless amounts of Artifact Power to unlock - a system that was already thoroughly panned when it was released in the previous expansion.

World mobs still scale with item level, making every trivial enemy into a damage sponge you can drill multiple finishing moves into. This was also wildly unpopular, anathema to the concept of an RPG, AND something the lead developer said they would NEVER do.

In summary, you might enjoy this expansion if you play primarily Horde and don't mind dull, slow-paced combat that never really improves even with full epic gear, but otherwise, avoid.

I bought the collectors edition and was super hyped to play. I lasted all of two weeks and was so bored out of my mind I cancelled my sub and was out the hundred dollars. I have been playing since Vanilla WoW and never have I seen such a huge failure as BFA. This entire development team should be fired and a relaunch like what Final Fantasy did needs to happen. This is unacceptable!

-The reputation rewards are just lazy, re-using the same assets for the blue's meanwhile reusing the same models for most of them on the red's. But clearly showing more care being done on the red's rewards though.
-The story centers around the red team, there is no question about it. This whole expansion starts off because of the horde and throughout the whole expansion thus far the horde continue to cause more atrocities and give the alliance more reasons to retaliate. There is no 'grey' in the storyline, horde are clearly evil and the alliance are clearly good. I don't know what the game director meant when they said it would be a grey storyline.
    - The warfront scenario is soo boring. All you do is grind resources to get siege tanks then kill boss, that's it. You also have to defend yourself from 'attack waves' and retake 'points' by just zerging down more bosses with other players and that's really it. Honestly this would of been a more interesting game mode if they just turned it into a RTS minigame instead. But since they didn't it's just zerg zerg zerg, so boring.

If you are a Warcraft fan then I'd suggest you save yourself from this dull expansion and just watch the cutscenes and storylines on yotube, you'd honestly have a more fun time watching then actually playing through this expansion.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The world design is stunning, the cinema-graphics are gorgeous! Those are the highlights of the expansion.

The problems are with the gameplay, game design, and QA.

    GAMEPLAY:
The expansion instantly reverted to WQ grinds, boring island expeditions, and even more boring warfronts within 3 weeks of the expansion launching.

    - RNG is needed but it's taken over too much of the game and is being used to take the place of proper content:
The raids are fun, and M+ does provide a challenge, but the gear systems involved with those two though have just become way too RNG. They aren't even letting guilds guide loot anymore, making raiding and M+ a skinner box on steroids. With skinner boxes, there's only so many times a rat will pull a lever before it stops seeing the resulting treat to be worth the effort. Right now, RNG has tuned that lever to give drops of water instead of a trickle. For example, M+ had up to 3 drops all through beta. Then, without warning, the first chest had 1 piece. Instead of preparing the community, they replied officially that it was always supposed to be one piece of gear. When called out, Blizzard responded about bad luck protection rolls, which is even more of an insult. Not only is there RNG in getting loot, but now you've got to roll/fail on the first roll to get a weapon. That means your first roll has to fail, assuming it doesn't give you a piece you don't want or need already...then roll again and hope that roll doesn't fail or give you a weapon with stats you don't want! It's RNGxRNG to get a decent weapon in M+??? I've seen Blizzard eat crow many times, but this time...they flat-out allowed the community to be, albeit inadvertently, deceived in regards to M+ rewards by YT content creators without ever even addressing it with so much as a sentence of correction. Then they answered with a system that is atrocious! I place no fault here with the YT content creators, because the logic was solid all through beta, and the thought process was all over YT and not limited to even just a few WoW YT channels.

    - Game Design:
Blizzard is showing more and more that they don't care what the community wants, thinks, or feels in regards to their product. Just think about GCD changes which no one asked for, nor was ever really justified in a really meaningful way. The recent changes are bleeding the fun out of the game. I mean, you can't even guide your own toon's pvp gear progression anymore. It's ALL RNG! And why is it RNG, and why has 'bad luck protection' become a thing...simply put, it's because RNG and gated content is the direction Blizzard wants. It allows them to spend less creating new and high-quality content so they can opt to build-on-a-budget. They simply feel they can't generate enough quality content to keep up with the rate that players can churn through it, and so droplets of content are what we are going to get form now on. That wouldn't even be a deal-breaker except that the content that does come out is trash. I'd love to see how many people play warfronts or island expeditions in 3 months.

    - QA:
Lastly, this launch, and its following hotfixes, have been the worst since this game has been around. Not because of one big bug, but because of all of the bugs aggregated which should have easily been caught by a half-decent QA team. Every single new feature has been broken, lackluster in execution, or broken something else upon deployment. I work in software, and if our team deployed like Blizz has done since August, we'd lose customers left and right. You can't have people going into pvp and watching their mana drain passively, c'mon!

LOST THAT LOVIN FEELIN (Ion's 'No Man's Sky Approach):
All this to say that Blizzard's passion for the game is gone. The teams that brought the original magic to this game are no longer around, and Ion is constantly playing defense to justify the major problems in the culture of development and the design changes that have gotten progressively worse over the last few years. Go and read what Ion himself said on the AMA, "We see the current system as a foundation upon which to continue building".

    - More Money for Blizzcon Virtual Tickets Shows the Heart of The Matter:
Well that's great Blizzard, I can't wait to pay $50.00 instead of the normal $35.00 for a Blizzcon virtual ticket to listen to your team's next set of ideas. I also really hope that extra $15.00 gouge goes in ticket pricing is going to go to hiring back some of the original dev team who knew how to

Reputations - they were always in the game, but they were optional, if u wanted some reward they provided. But now, they are mandatory! On each new character you have to spend weeks farming the same reputation all over again, or your main piece of gear would be weak. I do not complain because farming rep is hard, it is not. It is very, very easy, but also very boring, repetitive and time consuming.

New races - one of the new, greatly advertised BFA features were new races. In advertisement: complete quest line to unlock them! In reality? Spend !! months !! farming reputations from irrelevant outdated content from previous expansion before you can start quest line to unlock new races. When I first hear this I thought it is some scam, because no one could be so stupid to implement this... but here we are.

On the other hand, new zones are great, story is great, music is great, and both dungeons and raids are great. I would really like to enjoy them, but it's kinda hard, when fundamental basics of this game are so, so broken.

Overall 2/10, unsubscribed, and because i love WoW, i am going back to private servers to play previous expansions. Yes, private servers are buggy, they might also crash sometimes, but at least the actual class gameplay is fun - and thats all that matters.

Class design which they're promised to be more "balanced" so people who want to push to mythic progression have more variety class in their roster are not fullfilled until now, take example feral class which is are now the lowest dps compared to the other class, even that class dps have more lower dps than tank, this making people who want to play feral not getting invited or must reroll to balance spec so they can keep their head up to other dps. the other example i can give maybe fire mage, where some people reroll to frost or arcane to push their progression. Holy paladin where they given a strong cooldown with aura of sacrifice now they change it with exact effect like devotion aura but worse, they also change warrior prot with lowest damage mitigation compared to other tank. i dont get the idea why they need to change playstyle some of the classes so much where that class have some positive feedback before, are they have diffrent persons to design some of the classes and they get no idea what are they doing for?

About BfA: The core experience can be saved with future patches. The ideas Blizzard made in BfA are great on paper, but didn't work out in practice. Islands are ment to be a 1 stop shop for Azerite power and with a weekly limit so you don't feel forced to grind. Yet it's a boring feature that offers nothing but repetitive gameplay. Warfronts are a missed opportunity. Azerite armor was made to keep the end game progression alive outside gearing but turned out to be a headache of chasing the best traits with limited sources & ways of doing so.

Like all MMO's you can't judge an expansion this early on, I'm sure BfA with its 77 patch day cycle will be a good expansion at the end just like Legion. Sadly the early days have been a cluster with bugs and terrible systems.

So, my new rating of this expansion is 0 and nothing will change my mind. I will leave my first review below this, because those bad things are still relevant.

I give it a 2 because its still WoW, but that's the only good thing i can say about it. 90% of the "new" main content are content from Legion that became boring after Nighthold, the other 10% are the warfronts and expeditions and they were boring the first time i did them. In the end it just became a downgraded version of Legion. The new Azerite system is boring and flawed as well.

The story is bad compared to every other expansion so far, its boring. Classes are not well balanced and most of them doesn't feel good to play at all.

I might come back and change this review in the future, but for now i can only give it a 2, because there are tons of bugs, its unfinished and i can't play for more than 10 minutes without getting bored.

It's little more than a shell of it's former expansions; boiled down to the lowest common denominator with next to no player agency, nuance and will less content than a single player rpg from 1991.

That's not to say that the expansion has no redeeming qualities; for an engine as dated as it is the art team absolutely nailed the feel for the expansion. The horde zones run the gambit from Bright, lush forests to barren wastes with a little dark swampy moodiness in between. The alliance side is both depressing ans spooky, setting up some fantastic world building for how the people of Kul Tiras live their lives.

However, that's where the good ends for this expansion. The shiny exterior hides the hollow shell of a game that it actually is. Not a game that was made by people that care, but one that could be mistaken as being made by a corporate office run by EA.

Story: While the Alliance side has some of the best story telling the game has ever seen the Horde side is,to avoid spoilers; sorely lacking. Characters and factions move and act illogically when compared to previous confirmed lore, even so much as completely retconning entire motivations, reasoning and culture to push a narrative that feels both forced and artificial. Each zone contains its own side story that doesn't exactly mesh well with the main narrative of the game and leaves the players constantly thinking "but what about X" only to have them grasping at straws. At best it compares well with low-tier middle school fan fiction at worst it's a broken mess that even the author of those sparkly vampire books would be ashamed of.

Sound: While nothing in BFA is objectively BAD there are quite a few instances of remixes from previous expansions strewn about. Also a multitude of poor Q&A work has led to some issues with the sound sometimes stuttering or stopping entirely, usually requiring a interface reload to fix if not a full logout sequence. Depending on zone this can be immersion breaking , depending on personal musical taste. My personal favorite is Vol'dun's music; it sings that this place is a depressing, desolate and dangerous all in one tune. Exactly like Cleveland, oddly enough.

Control: At one point wow was blessed with some of the better controls in terms of interface and timing. While it has not aged particularly well compared to others in its genre it cannot be called bad as it got the job done. However, BFA manages to take the one massive step back from Legion; the global cooldown change. While Legion combat and responsiveness will never be on par with say Tera's combat, it was still quick and to the point. Now, every single class in the game feels unresponsive , clunky and in the case of some caster classes (poor shamans) outright criminally slow. I went from combat being fluid and to the point to mistiming my attacks because of some dumb timer that's now far longer than it originally was.

Optimization: Put blankly; wow runs like hot garbage. Zones and dungeons take far longer to load than they should; even on SSD and the game under utilizes powerful video cards. While this is good for those on a budget it's not exactly good for those that want more out of their gaming experience. This continues Blizzards trend of their games running on nearly everything, but not on anything exceptionally well.

This isn't a deal breaker for most, but the engine is certainly showing it's age.

Content: As I am limited to 5000 Character I will have to make this section brief, but needless to say many parts of the game are bankrupt. Casual PVP is entirely dead as warmode did next to nothing to revitalize world pvp. The rewards are randomized, not worth the hassle and the wanted marker is reported on the map too slow to catch griefers; especially ones with stealth. Rated pvp is and always has been a mess, made even worse by randomized rewards.

Heroic dungeons are pointless as the very dull warfronts mode entirely invalidates their existence 3 week in. The same could be said for the Mythic 0 dungeons as warfronts give away epic gear as if it were candy.

The Azerite gear system is simply there to add more grind on time of grind and is far less rewarding than legions Artifact weapon system. This leaves players feeling weaker and shafted as their new drop gets an absolutely terrible random set of passive abilities they don't want.

    I could easily go on for another 10,000 words , but the shorter answer is this;

They took everything bad about legion and turned it up to 11. From the unrewarding rep grind to the invalidation of so much content early on; BFA is a dark mark on WOW,s history on par with WOD.

If 8.1 doesn't fix the problems, bail on this sinking ship and go play something more worth your time.

Former Blizzard developers were not criticized for their arrogant attitude. That's because at least they have made a great game. However, current developers who have received the legacy are dancing puddles with the vomit turned over in the trash pile.
We have been patient with patience and will soon reach the limit. Other game developers want to learn a lot from Blizzard's failure.

Many classes/speccs are unfinished and Developers said themself that the time was not enough to finish them and that we would need to wait for a content patch like 8.1, which will take MONTHS after release to come out.
Also, the leveling experience is the worst i have ever had in any WoW addon. When you played LEGION before and you started leveling a good geared character. Then it felt awful. Every level you became weaker even tho you gained more level and higher ilvl gear. Your character became horribly weak and slow.
Also, over that couple of years class design is on an all time low. They gave us artifact weapons with tons of traits and stuff that interacted with your base spells. Then they took this away, dumbed down the classes even more, and that feels really really bad. Especially, as you do NOT gain any new talent/spell or whatsoever over leveling 110-120. You LOSE things. And that is the worst exp. in an WoW addon since 13years.

Too many WorldQuest grind. And at the end after you have done WQ and rep grind, it is all over the same stuff again as in legion. Raids, Arena/BGs, Mythic+... thats it. Same old content same old stuff, boring as ****

Island expeditions are a joke. Warfronts are Ashran WITHOUT the enemy team / without PvP. These two new things, are the most boring stuff ever introduced into the game, ever.

The Asterith gear and traits are just annoying and nothing special. And for that we no longer have raid set gear and set boni. It is a very lazy implementation. They just removed stuff that needs lot of work and time, like creating class specific raid gear and boni. And added like nothing to compensate. it feels like they wanna remove more and more from the game so they have less to work and need less time investment. So they can maximize the income of money. It really feels like that.

Most important thing, this addon is not fun, at all. After 4-5 weeks I am really bored because there is the same **** we did 2+ years already and nothing new. At least PvP is better than LEGION, you can get gear again, and gear matters again in PvP. But overall PvP is still worse than other addons years ago.
I canceled my SUB, because I think it is not worth the money for what it offers (the same stuff as legion but with so much worse classes and speccs...) therfor boring.

Azerite Armors are combined bad things from Relic Weapons and the legendary items from The Legion. Barely get what you want, most of the traits are trash, STILL collecting relic power from the world quest etc.

Broken balance of each class. Everyone only looking for Rouge, Mage, Warlock, Hunter for DPS in Mythic Keystone, Death Knight only for Tank, Shamans are banned from every role.

Most disgusting thing is, global cooldown. Even FF XIV which has 2.5 sec global cooldown doesn't apply it to the big skills such as Tranquility or Empower Rune Weapon, Healing Tide Totem. I don't know what Blizzard is expecting from such a dumb thing like this.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Lazy for Subs is just lazy and awful form all angles.

Gameplay: Slow and weak with gear level scaling after years of feeling like a god form WOTLK, it is very off putting. The stat squish is way over tuned and made leveling form 1 to 120 a bore. Endgame is slow slog that we don't have flying and 80 percent of the endgame is just rep grinding with world quests. The opposite faction island dont have flight paths till we do the long *&* war campigan to unlock more paths and more is opened after revered. Better enjoy those long jogs on that mount because it a long run.

leveling Dungeons is nerfed to heck and pointless. Happiness is swinging a epic sword 20 times at a squirrel.

Classes again is unbalanced, just roll a rogue or a hunter and win. Even with the baby numbers we do now, they cant get classes like druids right. So the Blizzard solution is always to wait to the next patch and roll a top class or a spec. They are the master of the favor of the month.

No new talents or spells at 120 and the new Azerite gear made the game just mining for Azerite. The traits is boring and again it no options to choice what we want, just get Thunderous Blast and call it a day. The better the armor the more mining have to done just to unlock the traits. SO again at 120, they can just call it a fantasy mining RPG. My last tier Azerite armor better have diamonds, platinum and gold on it.

War fronts is boring and only good for loot and the mining simulator, errr islands is junk also. Why cant we loot and RP as pirates?

Story: You wont think it was no war at all once you land on the islands and quest that same old junk with a new skin. The alliance is just copy pasta form old RPGs and stories. They really missed the mark with the pirate theme. land based pirates that don't loot the islands??? The Horde have the troll lore that have not been overused to death but the sense of a world war is missing. The War campaign is so spaced out that we doing world quests to complete it, than feeling like in on a war front.

Allied races: My my, why do we need to beg these people to join us after saving their (*&*( and needing to do chores like I am the karate kid huh? I protected and saved the people form doom but I need exalted rep to even unlock them. I see them walking around in some of the cites and it a recruiting hall but nah got to grind. This the biggest cover up in the expansion of all. It is stupid lore wise and just a gate to get subs running. ( add to that, to get the new armor skins that one need to level each races to 110 and leveling is at the slowest with the only real option to quest with everything else nerfed and cant buy a boost to skip it.)

Music: its good but the great budget cuts took its toll and it just very short loops than the full rich scores form the older expansions.

Art: Why remove tier armor for Azerite gear? The leveling armor looks better than the raid gear and leveling gear should look like &*&^. The zones looks good and more high rez but that alone wont cut it. The problem is that path finding again rears its ugly head and looking for some rares or a way down a mountain is a chore.

Overall: We went form great champions that saved the world to miners that looking for rocks and beggars that have to do chores to unlock everything. The freedom to choose our adventure is gone and we have endless forced events if we like to run raids or Mythic plus on the side or spend like 6 hour or more a day before enjoying anything else. Grinding is everything BFA stands of.

Grinding for Azerite gets a zero form me.

I have guildies to play with, and don't mind solo contents, however, it really doesn't provide you many new contents.

Island Expedition has an issue with Heart of Azeroth / Azerite system not being interesting therefore the rewards are neither attractive or motivating,

Warfronts, Allied Races, even the War Campaigns are time gated. The biggest difference and the problem of this expansion is that, the stench of EA-esque, business-friendly ideas are EVERYWHERE, and extremely obvious.

I'm not one to blame corporations trying to make money, however, BfA feels like an unfinished college student's project that has shiny cover art and words, but no substance. I've never seen a WoW expansion feeling so rushed, unfinished and business-oriented. Do not subscribe or purchase the game if you expected a polished and finished game product.

Boring, uninspired, full of badly designed features (expeditions, warfront, azerite gear and grind).
Oh and there is no faction war. The exact opposite! For the first time since launch each faction was given their own island to play on away from the other...

This is the worst wow you ever played. all the outplay potential is out of the picture. we have many few abilities. new azurite system is 100 times worst than artifact system we had. they kept the grind part of it and removed the cool stuff from artifact system.

Poor gameplay elements makes for an unfun experience through the World. Instead of getting stronger each expansion as it used to be, you grow weaker and lose essentially everything going forward. More gets removed each expansion, instead of gaining more things.

The gameplay is buggy, rewards are great; they really should be made into a 20 vs 20 battleground...

    Class game play:
"Class fantasy" (as blizzard puts it), is pretty clunky. Damage is currently being balanced, but the skills and GCD flow need a lot more work

The response from Blizzard to the community is a train wreck... just about everything they do with weekly updates gives me one less reason to play...

    - We were tired of world quests at the end of previous expansion and imediately when we finish main plot in each zone we received world quests which were of course based on the quests we had just ended. Emisary rewards are also some kind of joke. 600 gold, it was a guaranteed award in legion + something else. here we receive AP, gold of item 340 (that's quite ok at the beginig)
    - Leveling was not a pleasure. Main plot was not separated from side quests and it was intermingling and I was confused what exactly I should have be doing. I got lost in Zuldazar main quest line and I was forced to contact with Blizzard support. Unbelievable
    - There's no endgame zone. There's no zone like Suramar or Tanaan Jungle that will keep us for some time, doing quests and going through the progress of the zone while upgrading the reputation with its
    main fraction.
    - Island Expedion, theoreticaly it should have been something new, creative and interesting. To be honest, after completing this activity twice I've already been tired of grinding Azerite Power. Only pvp mode is gripping, but on other dificulties it feels like 3v3 pve content which quickly gets boring and very repetitive
    - Oh yes, Azerite Power.. of course it's not a copy of Artifact Power tho...
    - When it comes to dungeons I enjoyed doing them, but huge disadvantageit's their lenght, numerous of trash which fills up the large halls for example Shrine of the Storm it's nearly tiring to enter this dungeon because you know that you will loose around 40 minutes of your life to complete it. Mechanics are repetitive from Legion. I almost cried of laugh when I saw the last boss mechanic from Freehold. Was that twin of Gul'dan? ;)
    - Another thing that is really anoying is that I completely don't feel the progress of my caracter. I can't say "Yeah, now I'm more powerful I can do things more easily or on higher dificulty"
    - Horde main town is beautiful when it comes to design but pragmatically it's horrible. Hundred of stairs, no portals up and down, profesions on the site that is only visited because the scrapper is there, We spend most of time in the harbour while trying to get to Alliance's zones.
    - Professions have lost on value. 3 stars of everything in first 2-3 days, but the frequency of a plant like Anchor Weed is on 5% lvl

To sum up, the plot and the story is great and that's the only thing I like in this expansion. I've got tired of this game and I won't subscribe for the next month, because it's just the waste of money for such terrible game.

They have murdered this game. I will start by saying that I have played WoW since 2005. I have been a hardcore top 10 US guild raider, and I have been an LFR trashcan pug. I can tell you guys that right now (and at launch as well), the game is not in a polished state characteristic of a full release game. It is clear that the game was rushed out, and that is why people are calling it "BetaThey have murdered this game. I will start by saying that I have played WoW since 2005. I have been a hardcore top 10 US guild raider, and I have been an LFR trashcan pug. I can tell you guys that right now (and at launch as well), the game is not in a polished state characteristic of a full release game. It is clear that the game was rushed out, and that is why people are calling it "Beta for Azeroth".

A few key issues with the game:

    1) Numerous bugs on release, such as invisible mobs, exploits, combat bugs, UI bugs, main story quest for Alliance was bugged and let people bypass Siege of Boralus (which means nobody even bothered to level an Alliance character on the live candidate to discover this bug) and once you were done with the quest, you couldn't zone into Siege lol! Just recently, there was a bugged mythic world quest in Atal'Dazar which resulted in double spawning of all the trash mobs (wtf?)!! Stuff like this is ridiculous, and pure beta quality.

    2) GCD changes: The fact that everything is now on the GCD is extremely frustrating for most players. I don't think anyone enjoys this change, and it slows down the combat and makes the game feel clunky and less fun.

    3) Azerite power/Artifact power/Azerite traits: Basically, the Azerite trait system feels very lackluster and RNG based due to it being tied to gear. The traits themselves often don't have much of an impact on how you play. The catchup mechanics of Artifact power makes farming Azerite feel pointless. Also, there are no new abilities from leveling the artifact. They also took away our Legion artifacts and legendaries, which were very exciting and fun traits. This is horrible design.

    4) Scaling - The stat squish nerfed all secondary stat ratings across the board for every class. This makes combat slow, clunky, and awkward. The world mob health also scales with itemlevel, which is extremely frustrating. Furthermore, their scaling system is horribly broken and results in painfully long leveling for lowbies. The devs clearly don't have a clue. (For example, on live, they released a "fix" to PVP healing that resulted in lowbie chars having -1000 mana regeneration...wtf?)

    5) Storyline - The game's story is pretty generic and scattered. They injected a feminist agenda into the game. I am all for feminism and equal rights/representation, etc. But when the vast majority of female characters are in leadership positions, and the male characters are portrayed as idiots, it is kind of obvious there is an agenda being pushed. Also, the whole way Darnassus was burned left a really bad taste in my mouth. I am not happy with the direction the story has taken, and I feel like WoW's lore has become mostly a joke ever since WoD. There is no context for Siege of Boralus to Horde, and no context for Uldir and King's Rest for Alliance (like there isn't even an intro quest to send you there.).

    6) Faction bias: It really seems like the devs favor Horde. The recent warfront fiasco illustrates this. Alliance players feel like an afterthought. The way they sharded warmode doesn't seem to work correctly either. Overall, the imbalance leads to many unhappy players. Most top PVE and PVP guilds are now Horde.

    7) Timegates/Rep Grinds/Grind: There is lots of waiting around in this game. (Wait for warfronts, wait for worldquests, wait for lockout resets, etc) You only get a limited number of world quests to do, and a lot of progress is tied to rep grinds where world quests are the only source of rep. The way they dealt with Allied Races was extremely dishonest (They seriously expect players to go back and run Legion's worst content to unlock these races?) Horrible grinds for crafted items. Mats are scarce. They have made demand for gold very high to incentivize token purchases.

    8) Lack of polish: Be it the lack of flavor quests for raids and dungeons, lack of class fantasy and class specific quests, lack of profession quests, lazily not even making the make loh go quests randomly generated, etc, there is no shortage of a lack of polish here. The game feels like a crude beta. It seems like they meant to add things, but never bothered. The Uldir raid was released to be extremely difficult on normal, and unrealistic for pugs. They then stealth nerfed a lot of it. It's just dumb that they need to tune the entry level raid this much after having months of beta testing.

    9) Class balance : PVP feels more Rock. Paper, Scissors than ever before, and PVE class balance is horrible. Feral druids and elemental shamans are really having a horrible time right now, and it's just sad.

So why do I give it a zero? In spite of all these issues, doesn't it deserve at least a 2? I say no because it is a HUGE step backwards from what WoW was. I have watched the quality of this game slowly decline due to Activision's greed and poor decisions by the dev team. I am giving it a zero because this is WoW, and we, the players, expected and deserved better than this.

Unfortunately, the rest of Blizzard really let these artists down by filling these new zones with the most uninspired, half-baked content I've ever seen in this game, and I've been playing since vanilla. Coupled with this half baked content are anti-consumer systems that are designed to maximize time played metrics for shareholders. I know WoD is generally perceived as the worst expansion yet, but I was not this bored and disillusioned by WoD as quickly as I've become with BFA. The magic is just gone now and it's been replaced by the type of systems you see in mobile games.

The Azerite armor system is completely broken in its current state and it makes itemizing your character a Sisyphean task. If you're wearing a piece of 325 blue gear and you get a piece of 340 purple gear for the same slot it should be a no brainer that the 340 piece is an upgrade. But not here. More often than not you will not have the required Azerite Power to unlock the new Azerite abilities on that 340 piece and indeed your DPS will suffer if you equip it. Of course, you'll only notice your DPS suffering in raids and dungeons, as the new scaling system means that mobs in the open world take just as much time to kill at level 120 as they did at level 1, regardless of how good your gear is.

Island Expeditions promised procedurally generated content and exploration but instead they are a mindless zergfest that reward absolutely nothing except a measly amount of AP and the occasional pet. Yippee.

Warfronts are content that you can only do every 2 weeks. One side gets 8 "kill 20 X" quests which can only be done once per cycle. 7 of these quests reward Warfront materials, which are largely useless because the Mission Table, which requires Warfront materials to operate, is also largely useless. The other side gets a scenario that they can spam over and over again for 340+ gear.. After 2 weeks, the sides swap and the cycle starts over. This was a heavily advertised feature of this expansion and it turned out to be little more than a catch up mechanic for alts. Why there's already a catch up mechanic like this in the game let alone why you'd ever have an alt in this expansion with the terrible rep grinds is something I don't understand.

Speaking of which, allied races are locked behind awfully tedious rep grinds that can only be done through extremely repetitive and uninspired world quests. 4 of these races require you do these world quests in the previous expansion.

Class abilities and talents have been pruned to death and every spec of every class is dreadfully boring. I suspect this pruning is because Blizzard is preparing for a console release of their next expansion. Tacked on top of boring 3-4 button rotations is a new GCD which makes combat arguably slower and worse than FFXIV's combat used to be.

What does that leave? Dungeons and a raid, i guess. Again, the art department shines here. Most of the dungeons look spectacular. However, since time played metrics is all Blizzard cares about now, these new dungeons are designed to take a very long time and as such are stuffed to the brim with an absurd amount of trash mobs. There's only so many times you can run a dungeon like The Motherlode before losing your mind on the 40th trash mob pull.

All in all it's mostly a dumpster fire of an expansion, albeit a very nice looking dumpster fire. Sadly I'm not entirely sure the game can be salvaged at this point. Not until certain lead designers are canned and the company no longer remains beholden to its shareholders.

Regarding class changes - the took away our artifacts, set bonuses from raids, legendaries, and put some of them into talents. In general, the didn't improve classes at all. They just took all the features away and made us weaker, than in Legion. I don't have an idea why the didn't add one more talent set on 120 level.
Lots of bugs, disbalance of classes
If you are new player, you may be drug into the game by allied races. But there is no ad that says that you MUST gain reputation in old content of Legion to have an access to those races.

After playing WoW since late vanilla, I can honestly say that BFA is the most boring, grindy and unrewarding expansion of them all.
Just LAZY at an epic, nay, legendary level. And to be perfectly honest, all those f2p Korean grindfest MMO suddenly don't look so ridiculous if you compare them to the dumpster fire that is BFA.

Leveling and questing is atrocious. The mobs are so tough now that they don't go down in 3 hits even if you have good gear. This is a major problem when coupled with the slow gameplay created by the new GCD system as well as resource starvation on some classes like rogues, monks and feral druids, making for a very unfun and annoying gameplay.

Also, I'm tired with how much Blizzard enjoys **** on Alliance, both lore-wise and game-wise. It's like Blizzard is making a reverse Saturday morning cartoon where the bad guys are the protagonists, and the good guys are a joke. Which could be a funny idea for an actual TV show, but not when your chosen faction is the joke of the show.

I can't believe I quit this game only 3 weeks after the release of the expansion. This never happened before.
Cancelled sub and uinstalled. I'm done with WoW with the foreseeable future, and also done with Blizzard games, as WoW was really the only thing I was interested in playing.

The only thing to do is pull a FFXIV and apologize for this mess and then take it back to the drawing board, but then we know Western companies lack the honor to admit their mistakes.

Welcome to Battle for Azeroth! Enter the continents of Kul Tiras and Zandalar and quest your way to level 120 and then repeat the very same quests that you did to get there but now in the form of WORLD QUESTS that reward DEPRESSING amounts of GODLY AZERITE to SMITE YOUR foes. Enter the fight as a Lv110 god-like hero, defeating hordes of enemies on your own because once you hit Lv120 the very same mobs will be KICKING your ASS. That's right, KICKING your ASS! Because you'll become much weaker. Enjoy running a dungeon for 20 times before you get your first drop, but that's okay because dungeons are filled with packs of TRASH, ONE after the OTHER!

Activate Warmode as a Horde and enjoy all the benefits that come with it such as 10% extra Exp or activate it as an Alliance player and get ganked every 10 seconds.

Despite insisting on keeping WoW as a game of two factions, the developers clearly favor the Horde, giving them more story, more cinematics, better racials and even the first shot at new content. They cannot separate the player from the developer, so they continue with their Horde bias, and the only people that deny it are the Horde players.

The story is terrible, it's like they took some random Tumblr fanfic and put it into the game. The writers continue to rely on plot holes to advance the story in the favor of the Horde. Sometimes I'm not sure if WoW is being developed by Disney considering the current villains, I expect them to start singing anytime they appear.

Transmog, which has become the endgame for many is truly disappointing this expansion. There's just a handful of sets added and on top of that, class sets are gone so now every class of the same type of armor looks the same. You'd think that still recycling meshes from 10 year old content and a lot of the gear being nothing but body-paint allowed Blizzard to develop more gear sets but you'd be wrong. making helmets, shoulders and belt buckles take all of Blizzard's artistic manpower but hey, at least the frogs have better models now!

Battle for Azeroth's major features are disappointing.

The Heart of Azeroth and Azerite Gear are basically the Artifact weapon and Netherlight Crucible, but now they have a different name to make you think it's entirely new. You're gonna spend the entire expansion farming for Azerite (Just like how you spent the entirety of Legion farming Artifact Power) so you can unlock Azerite traits from the Azerite gear, which are like the relic traits that you unlocked in Legion. The level of the Heart of Azeroth determines how many traits you can unlock in every piece. You need to level the HoA over and over if you can unlock the traits of higher ilvl gear.

Island Expenditions are a 3 player scenario where you need to collect a certain quantity of Azerite before the other team does. Anything you do rewards Azerite, so... it's like doing the same things you do outside, but now you are racing against other players.

Warfronts are 20 player scenarios where the only way you can lose is if everyone goes afk. It's dumb, brain dead content, but at least it gives players nice looking glamour. However, here's the problem. Just like everything else if BFA, it's time gated. The Warfront is only available for one week a month per faction. The Horde got access to the Warfront itself first because why wouldn't they? The developers play Horde so they want access to it first. The only requirement for Warfront was to be level 120, allowing Horde playes to gear up all their brand lv120 alts and have them ready for raid, and then they patched it to require a minimum of ilvl 320 to enter, which isn't high but it means that no Alliance player will be able to gear up their brand new 120s.

There was a beta for months, yet Blizzard ignored most of the feedback and released this pathetic excuse for an expansion, filled with bugs. Just a month into the expansion and terrible bugs keep showing up, Blizzard used to say that they release things when they are ready, but clearly that motto died when the good people of Blizzard left. The director, Ion Hazzikostas does not care about player feedback, he has decided he's the person who decides what is fun and what isn't. This is what happens when you put a player with no experience in video game development at the head of a game. Unprofessional attitude towards the players and constantly telling players who chose Alliance to switch to Horde if they want the good stuff.

But worry not! Should this expansion fold like Warlords of Draenor did, they will just wrap it up and announce Return of the Lich King, with all the villains that you killed 10 years ago back again because villains being dead has never stopped Blizzard from recycling them for future content. Enjoy Dalaran for the third time.

Mythic + dungeons feel like a Diablo-esk style theme to make you get better gear than having to earn in in an actual raid- ie. mythic raid or heroic.

In 2 months of paid subscription the expansion will give you meaningless quests, reputations grind, a bunch of dungeons, one raid. Not a single trace of battle for Azeroth. You cant conquer anything for real. Looking at the percentage bar of the other faction waiting to rape some NPC is the greatest emotion. False advertising and misleading product title at best.

TLDR: Great expansion at first, but minimal and somewhat pointless endgame content leaves you bored after a few weeks. My suggestion, get it and sub for one month. Come back when there's more content. For the first time ever, questing is the more interesting part of wow.

    ----------------------------------------------------

It's a difficult one to rate. There's many good and bad aspects. The new areas are beautiful and detailed, interesting to explore. The expansion focuses more on story than most previous expansions and playing those story scenarios have been a big plus for me.

Horde is heavily favored in this expansion, from story, to areas, and even items and mounts, all are more detailed and varied for the horde. Alliances experience is a bit more bland, and somewhat cartoony in areas such as Stormsong valley.

Dungeons have been varied, and they are trying to incorporate more raid mechanics into the dungeon boss fights. This makes it great as practice for upcoming raids if you've been away from wow for a few months or years. But there's one big issue with the dungeons, the balancing between normal, heroic and mythic is completely off. You can spend days/weeks in normals, while leveling, once you're 120, you'll spend maybe a day on heroics and then there's no incentive to ever do heroics again. The dungeon finder becomes completely useless, since you'll only be interested in mythics, which don't use the raid finder. So you'll need a group of friends, fly to the dungeon, and pretend it's a raid. This removes all quality of life they've introduced since WotLK. Right now, only a few weeks after release, mythics are easy with all the gear thrown at us, so a random group with the right ilevel is easily possible. So this restriction is really just an inconvenience.

Only one raid has released so far, but we flew through it with relative ease. And unfortunately, unlike everything else so far, has had very little storytelling (without reading up outside of the game). The boss encounters are hit or miss, some are great and require a well coordinated team, but some clearly had no thought put into them. Heroic was a little more interesting, and was somewhat of a challenge, but we did it in the first week of release. The raid itself seems somewhat bland in comparison to the detailed areas we explored in the new areas of Zandalar. I find myself not interested in running the raid again, the ease with which we ran through it ruined the experience.

Island expeditions are introduced as a pve(simulated pvp) or pvp, offering very little outside of leveling your necklace for the first week or two.

The new war campaign instance is practically pvp but for some reason is pve only. Similar to alterac valley but pve only. It's extremely drawn out, taking up to 40min. There is very little reason to do this more than once, to get your 370 ilvl cache. And worst of all, in order to access it, players need to give up their hard earned crafting materials.

This is the quickest I've become bored after doing all end game content. Very little left to do until new raids are out (and hopefully new questing areas). The only thing left to do is run higher and higher mythic+ dungeons and I've run those instances more than enough now.

Despite the new warmode, which turns any area into PVP

World quests started off interesting, and the rewards scaled for a short period. But they quickly become a means of grinding rep and nothing more. The mission table gives such menial rewards that it's not worth doing either, and is so awkwardly placed that you can get the same amount of rep that an 8hour mission would take, in the time it would take to get to the table by doing a world quest.

On the one hand I feel like Blizzard are trying to drag things out so that you will subscribe for longer, but those efforts are also undermined by the various ways to overcome it, which also ruins the usefulness of the new endgame content they've provided. It contradicts itself. The longer you wait to play it, the easier it will become to level and breeze through end game content.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This expansion is not ideal, but also it does not deserve red marks from dissatisfied troll army (not Horde, just trolls).
Things, that Legion was criticized for, were corrected in one way or another. Omnipresent random in looting legendaries was replaced by azerit armor and traits.
World Quest system and Mythic+ dungeons were saved almost unchanged as they were quite well received by the audience.
Storyline has divided big part of players into the Alliance or Horde fans, and what is good for first ones also is absolutely unacceptable for another part. And this is normal, WoW always was a story about war, opposition and competition, not friendship, peace or pacifism.

What do we have now, except M+ and WQ? Very strange Islands system, which has lots of rewards, but no chance to get them (only reputation items and doubloons for 50+ expeditions).
Dungeons, were trash is much more dangerous, than bosses themselves (Shrine and Underrot for example).
Broken crafting system, that forces players to take crafting for their own type of armor, which is strange at least.
Disappointing fronts, which are not competitive, just long scenario with pathetic realization and free epics for one of sides.
Warmode system with really bad phasing and balancing, so there is very often situation, were you just one against army of other side, which leads to respkill and other FUNNY game-play. Or not?

Also we have a lot of content (also divided for fraction, so Uldir Raid has no prerequisites for Alliance) on leveling, but on cap there is not so much what to do. No content for passive playstyle players (like it was with fishing or cooking earlier), just lots of grind and farm.

Hope, developers can fix bugs, exploits and glitches, so biggest part of the expansion is in the future. Only because of that mark is not 4 or 5, Blizzard can rework really much, like it was in WoD with very bad start. WoW is not dead, but it needs us and more our support, not only criticism.

This public beta is a glorious example of over-promising and under-delivering. The hype surrounding this expansion and all of the press leading up to its release touted diverse, randomized, emergent gameplay in the form of Island Expeditions. Epic faction warfare in tug-of-war struggles over landmark zones in the form of Warfronts. Allied Races to earn and level.

During the official beta testing phases players sent mountains of feedback concerning these modes, as well as many notable bugs. These feedbacks went entirely ignored and the released version of the game came with no changes to broken systems. Many of the obvious reported bugs are still in the game to this day.

Island expeditions were touted as infinitely replayable due to randomized islands, events, and a super-AI that would confound players with how awesome they are. In actuality there are a small batch of islands that are on a 3-set rotation per week. The events on the islands operate on a timer, with the exact same events happening at the exact same time every run. These are not randomized and are not rewarding in the slightest. They are a slog and a bore.

Warfronts are not what was claimed either. Warfronts operate on a monthly basis with each faction only being able to do the actual scenarios during a single week out of a 4 week cycle. During this single week one faction is able to spam the scenario for endless 340 item level rewards, nullifying the efforts of players during this first month grinding dungeons and mythics. The opposing faction is given 6 Kill 20 X quests, and that is all. This whole system is a horrible time-gated slog that sees 3 weeks of non-action for 1 week of spamming a scenario that doesn't change, and then 6 horribly boring quests.

Outside of the touted features, BFA is just a dumbed down and poorly implemented Legion. The only new systems are terribly implemented, boring, and not rewarding. The Heart of Azeroth system is poorly implemented and counter-intuitive to Blizzard's past ideology that higher item levels should be upgrades. The traits are boring. They also are not balanced in the slightest. For most classes the best traits are those that have nothing to do with your class. The difference between the best traits and the worst traits are sometimes in the area of 2k dps which is a huge amount.

The dungeons are not very interesting. Out of the 9 or so dungeons there are only 2 that really stand out as well designed. Most are just huge trash slogs where they have packed the trash so closely together that you constantly have accidental pulls. The trash is also at the same time very punishing if all of your group isn't religious on their interrupts.

The raid so far is further down the rabbit hole of tying a victory to the perfect execution of every member of the raid. The mechanics are horrendously punishing to the average human who has lapses in ability or lag in their connectivity. These encounters are not very inspired and don't feel rewarding enough.

Once you are exalted with certain reputations there is no longer an incentive to do World Quests, use the Mission Table, do Island Expeditions, which leaves only Warfronts, raids, and Mythic +. For those who are casual players this means there is no longer a reason to play the game. Nothing has decent rewards; World Quests don't reward Azerite Power in any meaningful amount (~150 per quest, where you need 8-15k to level up), their gold rewards are pathetic, the reputations have a limited life span, and the gear is capped and meaningless after a week or so. The rewards from Table missions are also petty and meaningless. Legion had an issue with table missions being too lucrative at 1-6k per pop. Now they give about 10-50.

As usual the art and cinematics are great, the music is great. However this is nothing new for WoW. Everything else though feels like a flop. Class balance is still not sorted out in the slightest. Every day we seem to get a new hotfix that changes class balance, azerite trait balance, boss damage, etc. Every few days we run into another huge exploit or bug that Blizz takes a while to sort out. This does not feel like a finished product that consumers should pay 65$ for. This is a beta-test that is being sold as a product.

I know that in this day and age companies feel like they can release garbage and then polish it in later patches. That would be acceptable if there wasn't an up-front cost attached to the garbage. There is nothing of value to do in BFA. Every new feature is a complete mess. Bugs and exploits are plentiful and some classes have not had any effort put into them to overcome losing their Artifact weapons (those will have to wait 'til 8.1 which has had no timeline set out). This is an unfinished Beta and no one should be wasting 65$ to jump in at this time.

I love this game, and probably always will, not because of its gameplay as it can be a letdown, but mostly because i've been following the Warcraft (Multiverse now?) since Warcraft III with the Scourge of Lordaeron campaign, which for me was an introduction to the whole Heroic fantasy genre ( that and the release of LOTR), so I'm very biased and sentimental in my appreciation of the game, as long as the story keeps progressing I'm in.

This Expansion from an artistic point of view is a masterpiece, Neal Acree and whoever did the soundtrack with him have done an amazing job at recreating the right musical atmosphere, same for the cinematics and story evolution...those things are only one side of a coin, in order for them to be delivered, it has to go through gameplay, and man how much they got it wrong, they almost diluted all that hype and epic "moments" that the art team crafted for us.

Right now, compared to this time in the legion release, I'm pretty much bored from this expansion already, and thus because of the following points :

Me and literally all the people I play with dislike Island expeditions, even though we were pretty hype for it, they just feel soulless and are a step down from Pandaria Scenarios, where each scenario had a "story" behind it. In the case of Island expeditions it's basically just farm Azerite, couple this with Magni obsessing with it makes it anecdotical where the stakes were presented as being pretty serious with Azeroth being in the verge of collapse and what not, we don't really feel that as much in the game. In my opinion Cataclysm did a way better job to transmit that "urgency" feel of imminent doom.

The biggest frustration for me are Warfronts, it's basically all I ever wished from blizzard, bring back that WARCRAFT aspect in a PVE way, so I pretty much was very hype for it, especially after finding out that it has RTS elements. The fact that you only get to do it once every sub is a huge letdown as it's one of the major selling points, it's what is DIFFERENT from what you have done in the previous expansion. The funny part is that it lasts for like 15-20min? it lasts less than a dungeon, it's less challenging than a dungeon, and yet Uldir (which is a RAID) can be done more often than it - Which BTW is a great raid -

This point isn't very important but I still feel it has some relevance in the greater picture, tier sets are damn ugly, uninspired and a huge downgrade from what we were used to.
Speaking of gear, Azerite pieces are the most confusing mess i've ever seen since TBC, it just doesn't make any sense, the progression isn't "visible" and you feel like you have that kind of horizontal varied POE progression, without having the depth of POE gameplay, the traits are just not that impactful in the class gameplay besides % increase of dps which in the end can all be replaced by a stat increase of other items lol...

Which brings me to one last problem, that I mentioned in the warfronts part, Timegating/Repgating content... the way it has been done this time put the emphasis on what people criticized it for in Legion. It was tolerable and the whole Suramar zone/storyline made it worthwile, as you could still explore and be mesmerized by the zone. In BFA it's just soulless...the 7th legion reputation has nothing impactful about it, the War campaign is not as striking as the Suramar rebellion so you just feel like you're in Zuldazar just because Blizzard was like yeah the other faction has to see how amazing visually these zones are, dont let me start with reputation grind for allied races being locked behind a time consuming rep grind....(that is not even grindable at your own pace, wait at least 3+ weeks)

TL;DR : Timegating is fine til it sucks, same for repgating. Warfronts being once every sub in average is just frustrating especially when you know that that piece of content isn't really that deep to deserve being gated this much. BFA took all the criticism people had about Legion and made it its main feature. Dont waste your time until they fix it.

Battle for Azeroth offers everything you could expect from a World of Warcraft expansion, but its scale is visibly smaller than Legion’s and there’s no truly new quality here. Blizzard plays it safe, incorporating few innovations while trying to salvage the lore situation of Warcraft due to its constant escalation. Despite all this, BfA remains an entertaining expansion with a lot to offer in endgame for a casual player.
