Just run a comparison of this xpacs features versus Legion or others.. If they added two new classes in BfA it would have made up for some of this nonsense.. but instead, they still don't have the existing classes finished, until 8.1... Good Lord...

As for warfronts, they gave major rewards to the horde while alliance got nothing for two weeks. Horde guilds are now leading the world first raiding purely due to the blunders of Blizzard developers. Decisions like these are riddled throughout this game. Once again, save your money and forget that this game exists.

Former Blizzard developers were not criticized for their arrogant attitude. That's because at least they have made a great game. However, current developers who have received the legacy are dancing puddles with the vomit turned over in the trash pile.
We have been patient with patience and will soon reach the limit. Other game developers want to learn a lot from Blizzard's failure.

BFA is Blizzard 7th expansion to the original World of Warcraft from late 2005, however with as mechanically bankrupt as this expansion is you could easily mistake it for an MMO produced in the early 2000s. It's little more than a shell of it's former expansions; boiled down to the lowest common denominator with next to no player agency, nuance and will less content than a single player rpg from 1991.

That's not to say that the expansion has no redeeming qualities; for an engine as dated as it is the art team absolutely nailed the feel for the expansion. The horde zones run the gambit from Bright, lush forests to barren wastes with a little dark swampy moodiness in between. The alliance side is both depressing ans spooky, setting up some fantastic world building for how the people of Kul Tiras live their lives.

However, that's where the good ends for this expansion. The shiny exterior hides the hollow shell of a game that it actually is. Not a game that was made by people that care, but one that could be mistaken as being made by a corporate office run by EA.

Story: While the Alliance side has some of the best story telling the game has ever seen the Horde side is,to avoid spoilers; sorely lacking. Characters and factions move and act illogically when compared to previous confirmed lore, even so much as completely retconning entire motivations, reasoning and culture to push a narrative that feels both forced and artificial. Each zone contains its own side story that doesn't exactly mesh well with the main narrative of the game and leaves the players constantly thinking "but what about X" only to have them grasping at straws. At best it compares well with low-tier middle school fan fiction at worst it's a broken mess that even the author of those sparkly vampire books would be ashamed of.

Sound: While nothing in BFA is objectively BAD there are quite a few instances of remixes from previous expansions strewn about. Also a multitude of poor Q&A work has led to some issues with the sound sometimes stuttering or stopping entirely, usually requiring a interface reload to fix if not a full logout sequence. Depending on zone this can be immersion breaking , depending on personal musical taste. My personal favorite is Vol'dun's music; it sings that this place is a depressing, desolate and dangerous all in one tune. Exactly like Cleveland, oddly enough.

Control: At one point wow was blessed with some of the better controls in terms of interface and timing. While it has not aged particularly well compared to others in its genre it cannot be called bad as it got the job done. However, BFA manages to take the one massive step back from Legion; the global cooldown change. While Legion combat and responsiveness will never be on par with say Tera's combat, it was still quick and to the point. Now, every single class in the game feels unresponsive , clunky and in the case of some caster classes (poor shamans) outright criminally slow. I went from combat being fluid and to the point to mistiming my attacks because of some dumb timer that's now far longer than it originally was.

Optimization: Put blankly; wow runs like hot garbage. Zones and dungeons take far longer to load than they should; even on SSD and the game under utilizes powerful video cards. While this is good for those on a budget it's not exactly good for those that want more out of their gaming experience. This continues Blizzards trend of their games running on nearly everything, but not on anything exceptionally well.

This isn't a deal breaker for most, but the engine is certainly showing it's age.

Content: As I am limited to 5000 Character I will have to make this section brief, but needless to say many parts of the game are bankrupt. Casual PVP is entirely dead as warmode did next to nothing to revitalize world pvp. The rewards are randomized, not worth the hassle and the wanted marker is reported on the map too slow to catch griefers; especially ones with stealth. Rated pvp is and always has been a mess, made even worse by randomized rewards.

Heroic dungeons are pointless as the very dull warfronts mode entirely invalidates their existence 3 week in. The same could be said for the Mythic 0 dungeons as warfronts give away epic gear as if it were candy.

The Azerite gear system is simply there to add more grind on time of grind and is far less rewarding than legions Artifact weapon system. This leaves players feeling weaker and shafted as their new drop gets an absolutely terrible random set of passive abilities they don't want.

    I could easily go on for another 10,000 words , but the shorter answer is this;

They took everything bad about legion and turned it up to 11. From the unrewarding rep grind to the invalidation of so much content early on; BFA is a dark mark on WOW,s history on par with WOD.

If 8.1 doesn't fix the problems, bail on this sinking ship and go play something more worth your time.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The world design is stunning, the cinema-graphics are gorgeous! Those are the highlights of the expansion.

The problems are with the gameplay, game design, and QA.

    GAMEPLAY:
The expansion instantly reverted to WQ grinds, boring island expeditions, and even more boring warfronts within 3 weeks of the expansion launching.

    - RNG is needed but it's taken over too much of the game and is being used to take the place of proper content:
The raids are fun, and M+ does provide a challenge, but the gear systems involved with those two though have just become way too RNG. They aren't even letting guilds guide loot anymore, making raiding and M+ a skinner box on steroids. With skinner boxes, there's only so many times a rat will pull a lever before it stops seeing the resulting treat to be worth the effort. Right now, RNG has tuned that lever to give drops of water instead of a trickle. For example, M+ had up to 3 drops all through beta. Then, without warning, the first chest had 1 piece. Instead of preparing the community, they replied officially that it was always supposed to be one piece of gear. When called out, Blizzard responded about bad luck protection rolls, which is even more of an insult. Not only is there RNG in getting loot, but now you've got to roll/fail on the first roll to get a weapon. That means your first roll has to fail, assuming it doesn't give you a piece you don't want or need already...then roll again and hope that roll doesn't fail or give you a weapon with stats you don't want! It's RNGxRNG to get a decent weapon in M+??? I've seen Blizzard eat crow many times, but this time...they flat-out allowed the community to be, albeit inadvertently, deceived in regards to M+ rewards by YT content creators without ever even addressing it with so much as a sentence of correction. Then they answered with a system that is atrocious! I place no fault here with the YT content creators, because the logic was solid all through beta, and the thought process was all over YT and not limited to even just a few WoW YT channels.

    - Game Design:
Blizzard is showing more and more that they don't care what the community wants, thinks, or feels in regards to their product. Just think about GCD changes which no one asked for, nor was ever really justified in a really meaningful way. The recent changes are bleeding the fun out of the game. I mean, you can't even guide your own toon's pvp gear progression anymore. It's ALL RNG! And why is it RNG, and why has 'bad luck protection' become a thing...simply put, it's because RNG and gated content is the direction Blizzard wants. It allows them to spend less creating new and high-quality content so they can opt to build-on-a-budget. They simply feel they can't generate enough quality content to keep up with the rate that players can churn through it, and so droplets of content are what we are going to get form now on. That wouldn't even be a deal-breaker except that the content that does come out is trash. I'd love to see how many people play warfronts or island expeditions in 3 months.

    - QA:
Lastly, this launch, and its following hotfixes, have been the worst since this game has been around. Not because of one big bug, but because of all of the bugs aggregated which should have easily been caught by a half-decent QA team. Every single new feature has been broken, lackluster in execution, or broken something else upon deployment. I work in software, and if our team deployed like Blizz has done since August, we'd lose customers left and right. You can't have people going into pvp and watching their mana drain passively, c'mon!

LOST THAT LOVIN FEELIN (Ion's 'No Man's Sky Approach):
All this to say that Blizzard's passion for the game is gone. The teams that brought the original magic to this game are no longer around, and Ion is constantly playing defense to justify the major problems in the culture of development and the design changes that have gotten progressively worse over the last few years. Go and read what Ion himself said on the AMA, "We see the current system as a foundation upon which to continue building".

    - More Money for Blizzcon Virtual Tickets Shows the Heart of The Matter:
Well that's great Blizzard, I can't wait to pay $50.00 instead of the normal $35.00 for a Blizzcon virtual ticket to listen to your team's next set of ideas. I also really hope that extra $15.00 gouge goes in ticket pricing is going to go to hiring back some of the original dev team who knew how to

Azerite Armors are combined bad things from Relic Weapons and the legendary items from The Legion. Barely get what you want, most of the traits are trash, STILL collecting relic power from the world quest etc.

Broken balance of each class. Everyone only looking for Rouge, Mage, Warlock, Hunter for DPS in Mythic Keystone, Death Knight only for Tank, Shamans are banned from every role.

Most disgusting thing is, global cooldown. Even FF XIV which has 2.5 sec global cooldown doesn't apply it to the big skills such as Tranquility or Empower Rune Weapon, Healing Tide Totem. I don't know what Blizzard is expecting from such a dumb thing like this.

So, my new rating of this expansion is 0 and nothing will change my mind. I will leave my first review below this, because those bad things are still relevant.

I give it a 2 because its still WoW, but that's the only good thing i can say about it. 90% of the "new" main content are content from Legion that became boring after Nighthold, the other 10% are the warfronts and expeditions and they were boring the first time i did them. In the end it just became a downgraded version of Legion. The new Azerite system is boring and flawed as well.

The story is bad compared to every other expansion so far, its boring. Classes are not well balanced and most of them doesn't feel good to play at all.

I might come back and change this review in the future, but for now i can only give it a 2, because there are tons of bugs, its unfinished and i can't play for more than 10 minutes without getting bored.

Many classes/speccs are unfinished and Developers said themself that the time was not enough to finish them and that we would need to wait for a content patch like 8.1, which will take MONTHS after release to come out.
Also, the leveling experience is the worst i have ever had in any WoW addon. When you played LEGION before and you started leveling a good geared character. Then it felt awful. Every level you became weaker even tho you gained more level and higher ilvl gear. Your character became horribly weak and slow.
Also, over that couple of years class design is on an all time low. They gave us artifact weapons with tons of traits and stuff that interacted with your base spells. Then they took this away, dumbed down the classes even more, and that feels really really bad. Especially, as you do NOT gain any new talent/spell or whatsoever over leveling 110-120. You LOSE things. And that is the worst exp. in an WoW addon since 13years.

Too many WorldQuest grind. And at the end after you have done WQ and rep grind, it is all over the same stuff again as in legion. Raids, Arena/BGs, Mythic+... thats it. Same old content same old stuff, boring as ****

Island expeditions are a joke. Warfronts are Ashran WITHOUT the enemy team / without PvP. These two new things, are the most boring stuff ever introduced into the game, ever.

The Asterith gear and traits are just annoying and nothing special. And for that we no longer have raid set gear and set boni. It is a very lazy implementation. They just removed stuff that needs lot of work and time, like creating class specific raid gear and boni. And added like nothing to compensate. it feels like they wanna remove more and more from the game so they have less to work and need less time investment. So they can maximize the income of money. It really feels like that.

Most important thing, this addon is not fun, at all. After 4-5 weeks I am really bored because there is the same **** we did 2+ years already and nothing new. At least PvP is better than LEGION, you can get gear again, and gear matters again in PvP. But overall PvP is still worse than other addons years ago.
I canceled my SUB, because I think it is not worth the money for what it offers (the same stuff as legion but with so much worse classes and speccs...) therfor boring.

-loot system. In legion you could at least try to minimize the harm of titanforge and random by giving your mate some good loot in a raid. Now if that stupid bot is against you will not get anything.
-storytelling. I don’t know who thought that awful 6-year old “writer” could write a good script but it is here in cooperation with boring quests and old fashioned cinematics (not that from a trailer even for 1%). Cc-combo baby!
-outdated class mechanics or just odd ones. Sometimes you just don’t know where to put one of your hands so... try to be careful.
    - if you want new races... grind old content. And they are just a remarked old ones.
So this game is a money trap not worth to start. Better give these money to some charity because I feel bad when giving them to a lazy and disgraceful company which treats you like a money bag.

I'm trying to figure out a way to word this as eloquently as I can without coming across as an **** So let me start off with this. I've played WoW for about 14 (almost 15) years. I'm a WoW Veteran that has cleared higher end content for most of that time. In Legion (the previous expansion) I decided to wind down and go an easier more casual route with only raiding once a week with some seriously great people. Legion was a blast compared to WoD and I had fun raiding all the way through. When BfA came out, immediately I was let down by Azerite armor, by the lack of things to do with professions, by my abilities and passives that went away with my awesome legendary weapon, by forced personal loot in dungeons, with the bugs that I know I and others reported in beta, with the reduced reputation gains from world quests that literally DOUBLED the amount of time it took to get reputation leveled, GCD being added to almost every ability, RNG for your RNG with your RNG, Warfronts being like Wintergrasp except boring, Island Expeditions that are Cataclysm Scenarios with a timer, classes not even being finished on launch and told to wait for a patch, a game designer that gives little to no f*cks about the player base and displays his arrogant attitude every single livestream or AMA, once again being stuck to the ground with no flying mount, boring dungeons that feel like rehashes of other dungeon mechanics, the irritating timegating using reputation or gear...oh and did I mention the bugs (I've fallen through the ground more times than I can count in BfA than I ever did in all the other expansions COMBINED). I could literally go on for the entire 5000 maximum character count in this text box with the problems and issues this expansion has. I keep going back and adding more **** that's wrong with this expansion.

Needless to say, if you're an old WoW Veteran looking to come back and play again, don't. Just stay away. It's hot garbage. If you're a new player, I encourage you to wait until either the next expansion or the current game developer gets ****canned for this mess of an expansion. Don't listen to all the shills defending the developers or gameplay. Trust me, this is worse than WoD by a wide margin.

What a disgrace. I'm going to go take a shot now. I need one after writing that review and remembering all the **** that is wrong with a game that I used to love.

    Ugh.

It's been 3 weeks since launch and I'm already bored to tears. I have 16 characters on my account and I can't imagine taking the time to do all of this mundane grind on each of them. I expected Legion to be a disappointment, but it was surprisingly robust. It offered class missions for each spec, custom armor, class mounts and the introduction of appearance collections. I also liked the PVP tokens you could earn doing world quests to collect the classic PVP sets. All of that is gone with this expansion.

I'm feeling that World of Warcraft should be renamed 'War of World Quests' since both factions have different, but unique sets to do. I haven't noticed them involving any Alliance vs. Horde missions, most are still against a common foe in each faction.

With any launch, you expect bugs to come up from time to time. I'm finding that a lot of the changes that were made to the game were not properly thought out or handled correctly. In Beta, people commented that the stat squish made older raids and dungeons unsoloable. It's something many did to collect the armor sets for the appearance collection. And many of the changes to the classes made them clunky and awkward, taking away from the game. None of this was fixed so now we all get to experience this frustration. They also added pets to a lot of the classic dungeons and raids, and cut back on the amount of armor dropping from mobs and bosses, so it takes even longer to collect the desired set piece. More grinding ahead for those that still care.

I've had a lot of friends already put their account on hold hoping that they can come back in 6 months or so to see improvements based on player feedback. I'm not there yet, but with each repeat World Quest, I'm getting really close.

"Class fantasy" (as blizzard puts it), is pretty clunky. Damage is currently being balanced, but the skills and GCD flow need a lot more work

The game has been simplified and reduced greatly. Character customization is extremely limited and simplistic compared to before. Total amount of character abilities have also been reduced. Content is streamlined to a treadmill of scheduled quests, dungeons and raids. You are not given any time to just do whatever you want.

The game is heavily time gated and constricted and doesn't really offer anything. The story isn't that driving and well put together, and has loopholes the size of the sun all over the place. It's easy to feel burned out rather quickly, since the game has very few things to do, and fewer still that are rewarding. The removal of tier gear means that your rotations will stay exactly the same so basically class design is non-existent and classes are all; very boring, repetitive and similar.
Then they have added scaling to the game which means that 110's with legendaries can destroy level 120s even if they have spent 30 hours farming mythic dungeons. So you get the feeling that you become weaker as you level.
The art looks really good and the music is some of the best in the game but you may aswell put spotify on and walk round an art gallery if you wanted 'Music and art'

The worst games i have played in order in the past few years are BFA, Sea of Thieves, No mans sky

Simply the worst expansion of the WOW, storytelling is boring and quests are scattered so distractedly that it's hard to focus on the main story. Contents after level 120 are very similar to the Legion, but the rewards are very small so it is not motivating at all. Even no talents and skills are added after legion , and this means your play will be almost same through the whole expansion.

This is coming for a WoW veteran. Perhaps i'm just done with the game altogether but lack of originality is really something that comes to my mind in every area when it comes to BFA.

I find BFA lacking in content. Compared to legion, the story is very weak and hardy even believable (I know it's a fantasy world but still). Blizzard over-promises and delivers very little content. At the moment, there is not much to do and features like island expeditions which were heavily advertise, disappoint.

One can do dungeons but the time-gating on blizzard's side is really visible here. Warfronts, raids and mythic+ dungeons are coming, allied races as well. It is clear for me that this expansion focused on player retention and moneymaking mechanics rather than something original. Something created not out of heart but in a corporate conference room.

I really have problems with game mechanics at 120. Players can do world quests or farm azerite power. Thing I've done in excess during the last expansion. They are straight up revolting for me and are nothing more than time-wasters put in place just to engage players in meaningless activities. I feel restricted like I'm getting some fun, just to stay and play but not enough to be really satisfied.

Writing in WoW has never been great but I feel like it is stagnating. C'mon blizzard, your players age. The game is almost 15 years old but the story is written for teenagers and very young at best. Characters are one-dimensional and their actions illogical. Maybe I'm just looking for a more mature story after we've all seen fantasy world created in eg. GoT.

The good thing are the visuals. It's astounding what can be done with such an old engine. I've only done the horde part but voldun is one of the best looking zones in the game, especially at the night. This is probably what designers envisioned for Tanaris or Uldum.

It's really hard for me to say 'don't buy it'. I personally feel like bfa does not changes enough. Yet, it is still good ol' WoW. Dungeons are fine, the raids will probably be as well. Classes play mostly like they have in Legion. I expected a different direction.

In addition to my disappointment, I ended up deleting my account due to Blizzards lack of support. I tried to escalate an issue but there is no where to escalate, you just have to accept whatever the game master tells you. This was a deal breaker for me as any company I have dealt with has somewhere to escalate an issue if you don't feel it is dealt with correctly. I feel sorry for you if you ever have to deal with their support.

I would steer clear of this one and steer clear of Blizzard support. Blizzard support sucks! But I'm sure you already know.

Corporate greed killed the video game star. Let's not kid ourselves, every video game these days is about making money, games in general just became too mainstream to be about the art first, and money second.

However, there is an amount of monetization that is acceptable, that doesn't kill the immersion into a game. Blizzard always walked rather carefully on this fine line, but now they've clearly stepped over it, at least in my perception. This is a pay2play game, with a monthly sub fee, full price expansions, ridiculously overpriced character services, a cash shop for cosmetics, and with the manufacturer even (indirectly) selling gold for real moneyz via the wow token.

We all accepted that for years, because the game still felt immersive and all the monetization around it didn't impact the game itself too much. But those days are over. Blizzard introduced Allied Races in Legion, and they made sure to gate them behind a reputation grind at the end of Legion. Now the next set of Allied Races made it to the game, and yet again they're locked behind a tedious rep grind. And if you actually managed to grind the reputation required, you will need to level your Allied Race character. And how convenient that Blizzard massively slowed down the overall leveling process in all zones of the game, turning it into a mindnumbingly boring grind. And how convenient again that the infamous character boost is now even 10 bucks more expensive, if you want to bypass all the grind.

Grind and timegates are the key words in this expansion, as Blizzard controls the player progression at every single step. The most ridiculous aspect of this is probably the item level scaling. No matter which level you are, no matter how powerful your gear becomes, every random pig in the open world will take you the exact same time to kill as it did 10 levels or 100 item levels earlier. And scaling now even applies to PVP, turning Warmode, which is pretty much the same thing as PVP servers before BfA, into a total travesty. Level 110 players farming level 120 players with ease, because the scaling is horrendously broken.

This whole expansion is about nothing but slowing the player down, and removing all RPG aspects from the game. You get to level 10 additional levels for absolutely no reason, as you won't even get a single skill or passive, and you don't become any more powerful.

Island expeditions, one of the new selling points of this expansion, are the most dull and uninspired PVE content this game has ever offered. And the only reason to do them is to boost your Heart of Azeroth via Ass-erite, the new Artifact power. It works pretty much the same way, just in a way more boring and meaningless fashion.

I do give them 1 point for the graphics of the new zones, 1 point for the music, and 1 point for ....well, I don't even know, guess I feel sorry for them - and all the players keeping up with this crap.

This expansion will tank harder than WoD, and if Blizzard doesn't correct course on a massive scale, this might turn into the worst expansion so far, or even be the final nail in the coffin of a once great game.

It sure is the end of the line for me, as I'm a player, and not a cow to be milked dry while being kept in a closed and controlled stall.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To be fair this expansion is nothing short, but a zero.

Blizzard is one of the greatest game developers with vast resources. Obviously the expectations are high, but even taking this into consideration this "expansion" is an insult to every fan. This is not what you can call an "expansion" and sell it for AAA price. This is horse ****

    What does it offer:
    1. They restructure how world pvp works and call it a feature. No, it's like a patch.
    2. They add "new" races that are essentially recolors of existing models and literally not interesting in any possible way (I understand it is subjective, but even the **** pandas everyone hate were more interesting). They add nothing to the game and overall feel extremely lazy
    3. I absolutely love Blizzard's stories, the animations they release, the cinematic, how come the game itself has a script that feels like it's written by a 8 year old. Its horrible.
    4. Level scaling in zones is a good idea in general, but they done it in a way that your character feels weaker as they progress.
    5. Beside the new zones (that look good, but otherwise I would not call it grand), the **** island expedition and the war zones it adds nothing new...
    6. No new classes/abilities
    7. They removed the artifacts (lazy) that we worked for years then add a **** trinket with the same mechanics AND **** abilities.

+1 This game is so old no matter how they tweak the engine it will never look as good how it could look if Blizzard would actually grew some **** balls and release a new game already. This is perhaps Blizzards greatest crime. They keep pushing this **** down on the masses' throats instead of moving on. I swear the best word to describe this is LAZY. And don't give me this "wow has a cartoon style" excuse as even cartoon styled games can potentially look at least ten times better. Not to mention the animations. I watch one in-game cinematic that supposed to be serious and cry that this is something that comes out in 2018. There is no excuse. Just look at battle of Lordearon cinematic when the lithe Sylvanas jumps off a rock after her monologue. I could cry, it's like a satire.

    All in all: "just wow"

Level- & item scaling - the higher my level is the weaker I feel. I can't remember feeling this weak in Legion once hitting max level.

Edit: This expansion feels bereft of imagination and interest in making an actual game that's fun to play and not insanely tedious. I've been away and back and then a few days away after a ragequit over TW. But I still end up with the feeling of not sure why I logged on and then logging off momentarily after.
The RNG is spreading throughout the expansion like a plague of not caring about the game. The more RNG - the less Bli$$ard has to care about the game. It's an expansion running in circles. I really, REALLY wanted to like, heck even love the expansion. But I find little or no love for this expansion. This expansion is fundamentally flawed beyond repair - I'm afraid. Or FUBAR if you will.

I wanted to like it, came back expecting to like it. It failed to deliver on all counts for me.

The gameplay feels like a slow metronome.

You can exchange 1000$ directly with tokens into WoW Gold. With the overall very low weapon drop rate in the world of BFA its not only recommended, but merely mandatory to buy a weapon in the AH. I did more than 60 heroics and not a single weapon dropped for me, or my friends. Therefore its the biggest of small past steps into the direction of pay to win.

Change their cash politics with your decline to play such garbage.

Time gating is everywhere, the quests are tedious and a pain to get too. Most terrain is rough and it is simply designed to be that way to slow your leveling progress down. This is a PVP expansion the perks come from being flagged for pvp and Warfronts. I got to 115 and finally said screw this POS expansion. I do not give a crap about how the end game is because I can't even make myself play through this pissy poor design. This is not worth $49 as it is pretty much just a game patch. They also added a GCD on all classes for all spells, which means you have to wait before casting a spell, making the gameplay even slower than it was. (and more tedious)

The game is trying to go back to it's roots with Alliance vs Horde, Orc, vs Human. But it doesn't make any sense, since PVP has been completely cut from the knees as well. Blizzard had the bright idea of removing PVP servers and replacing it with "Warmode". If you have this mode turned on you get increased experience and it flags you for PVP. Basically every server now is a Normal server and you flag yourself for PVP if you want to. The irony is palpable. It's ironic since the game is advertising itself as a PVP oriented expansion even though It's not. The New "Warfront" game mode was advertised as a PVP mode, but it's not. It's not even PVP. It's PVE. It's basically a 20 man dungeon that is incredibly boring and gets old after the first time.

"Island expeditions" are also incredibly boring and repetitive and serve no real purpose other than filler.

Nu-WoW is all about the aesthetics like most games today. It's completely empty and devoid of any real challenge or atmosphere. It's all about how long can we keep the player subscribed. Once you get past looking at the dungeons and raids, you'll soon see the game is a hallow shell. There's almost nothing to do outside of dungeons and raiding.

And since they've pruned so many abilities and added no new ones, added a GCD that the community did not want and was very vocal about it, dungeon gameplay and raid gameplay is even slower than it was. Your basically looking at a 4 button rotation for most classes and with the added GCD, I feel like I'm watching a golf tournament.

I was recently refunded after thinking the game would change after playing Beta. I honestly did not thing they would still have the GCD change after the community even signed petitions to get it removed. Blizzard-Activision does not care about you. They only care about your money. Which is ironic since if they listened to the community that has supported the game for a better part of almost 15 years, they would probably make more money if they didn't add changes that nobody wanted in the first place.

Blizzard is currently in panic mode. They're trying to get back the old players that have unsubbed a long time ago (look at their TV ads) by bringing back the Horde vs Alliance nostalgia that hasn't been a thing since Vanilla. They are also releasing "Classic WoW" which they are trying to get the thousands of players that are playing Vanilla on private servers. They are losing subscribers fast. it seems though that the Nu-Blizzard design team has no clue what they're doing. The old design team is long and gone, the magic is gone. It's a corporate business model now like most "Triple A" games today.

And if your wondering if change is good, yes it is. WoW needs change every expansion. The problem is when you make the gameplay more and more tedious and boring to play it makes the game a chore to play. And incredibly boring. Google "Warrior GCD GIF".

But people will continue to buy every wow expansion. Either out of habit, being a "loyal" blizzard customer or maybe thinking the beta changes would be reversed at launch.

You want Blizzard to improve it's game? Stop giving them money. Vote with your wallet. That's the only way these companies listen to customers.

    Money talks and **** walks.

Same goes for classes - the amount of "skill" and knowledge one needs to have to master his class is fraction of what it used to be in WOTLK for example. I honestly find this game being a disgrace and I feel like it's closer to lobby games like League of Legends than the kind of MMO it used to be - you barely make any friends nowadays, everything is anonymous and minimum social interaction is required. The game might as well be singleplayer and i dont think it would make much difference at this point.

Leveling is an absolute bore in BFA, I never enjoyed leveling since I started playing over a decade ago but I could at least put on music or something and get through it. Up until now you could always look forward to a new ability or talent point, BFA removes all that. Once you hit 100 that's it, that's as far as you're rewarded for hitting a new level. Your character will play exactly the same at 120 as they did at level 100, albeit worse because you've lost so many stats due to leveling. Gone are the skill tree you had with your artifact weapons, now it's replaced by the "Heart of Azeroth" a necklace that does nothing but collect points to unlock boring passives for Azerite armor, pieces of gear that have no secondary stats attached to them. Azerite armor was Blizzard's way of not taking the time to create new abilities, instead they offer passives that prior two-piece set bonuses would laugh at. Thanks to Ion's crazed obsession with removing things from classes, most characters now have a piddly four button rotation, and even fewer have any procs to make things interesting. Hope you didn't spend a lot of money on a shiny new Naga or Scimitar because all you need these day is a mouse wheel. Too much has been removed from gameplay to make it fun or engaging anymore, I've never felt more bored playing the classes I've loved over the last decade, my sub runs out in October and once it's gone I think it'll be time to walk away from WoW or look at private servers. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The pre launch expansion event totally destroyed my desire to play WoW, and I’ve been playing on and off since burning crusade. The story is contrived, predictable, and I have no desire to go through it. Maybe an unsubscription is in order. Once again, the Azerite system is here, but this time it’s a necklace. Kul Tiras is visually impressive and is a good looking environment, but the only good I can see in Battle for Azeroth is its detailed environments and art style for bosses. The rest is where it pales in comparison to its former days. Here’s why:

Story- the Horde and Alliance are at their throats again. But why? How many times have we worked together when the sky is falling down? We’ve fought Arthas, Deathwing, and the Legion. The Horde vs Alliance plot may have worked back in TBC or Vanilla but it’s no longer relevant. I mean, they’ve written themselves in a corner because they’ve exhausted the same tired old Saturday morning cartoon villain plot all they can do is try to make a contrived plot about war when it doesn’t even make a lick of sense. The trailers were a little misleading, the burning of Teldrassil was so unsafisfying, depressing, and filled with bad writing that it genuinely has made me move on from the game. Just that alone, but the siege of Lordaeron was incredibly underwhelming. Nothing like it was advertised in the trailer. And let’s not kid ourselves, this entire story is going to end with an old god being a baddie, or the heroes save the day once again, just for another baddie to appear. Wohoo, i’m totally digging the old god and garrosh 2.0 cliche. Jaina is neither a compelling or interesting enough character to get through the story with, she’s just a deus ex machina character. Saurfang is a one sided character who just drills “honor honor honor” watch him save the day in the end, because Blizzard is terrible at story writing and if you can think of the most predictable ending to the expansion, it’ll probably happen.

Gameplay: I don’t mind the longer GCD, as I play FFXIV, but no new spells? No new talents? Where’s the class fantasy Blizzard? Haha who are we kidding, you took that out in WOTLK.

Some of the allied races are ok, and their lore is fleshed out, but others are just lazy reskins (void elf and high mountain anyone?) Kul Tirans don’t look like they belong in WoW. Anyways, that’s just my opinion. I don’t have any desire to play WoW in its non immersive world, with its boring and predicable story, deus ex machina plot, and streamlined game.

The world of BFA is expansive. The questing and leveling though isn't really improved over recent Warcraft expansions. The legendary neck item increases in level as you collect more azerite. It does seem poorly implemented in comparison to the legendary weapons in Legion. For one thing, you can't see how close you are to attaining the next level.

In Legion, classes were disastrously balanced for mythic+ dungeons. If you watched any of the MDI matches, only specific classes were represented like BDK, holy pallies, resto droods, and affliction warlocks. It will be interesting to see if other classes will be represented this season in MDI. Time will tell but I don't have much faith in Blizzard's ability to balance classes.

It's got trolls, it's got Mesoamerican art and architecture and its got dinosaurs. What more do you need? 13/10 Would recommend. I'm sure there's some good Alliance stuff too, but whatever. For the Horde!

I gave it a 1 because some of the visuals were interesting.

But otherwise don't waste your money and most importantly save your time.

Garbage RNG simulator with no sense of achievement.

And at first you will pretend everything is fine, there were issues before. It is time to justify the investment. After that you might play a bit more. You have friends in game after all.

Now lets see what would be the next? It takes time to find the motivation to quit and Blizzard makes a fortune on a game that gets worse and worse every year. If at any way to try the game after launch of expansion it is a still a bad game both in the new areas and in low level content not paying a cent is far easier and far more wise than feeding Blizzard for ages.

It is a very broken game now.

This game is an absolute disgrace to true Blizzard. The Blizzard that unfortunately no longer exists. The name lingers behind the shadows of Activision, but Activision has poisoned, infected, and killed off every inch of Blizzard. Honestly ask yourself this one question: Who is left that holds the true vision of WOW?

There are forever fan-boys that are brainwashed into believing that this expansion holds value and is made with quality and care, but it is not. I genuinely feel bad for them; I truly do.

    Pros:
    -Cinematic
-Fun with friends (as long as it lasts)
    -2 hours flasks
-Grind azerite power using follower missions
    -Purchase WOW subscription with gold

    Cons:
    -No class depth/development/skill cap
-Mindlessly push 1 of 3 buttons to do dps
-Raids are terrible (more people in older raids than new raids)
-Dismantled community (feels like a roller coaster single player game)
-Most professions can be maxed within 15 minutes
-Azerite armor makes no sense (give us abilities rather than a fist full of passives)
    -Simcraft (requirement)
-Neck grind becomes extremely dull/lame/bored very quickly because there is no end
-After initial expansion, flooded microtransactions appear
-Gear grind feels exactly like Diablo 3 (farm for the same gear in hopes for a minor upgrade to titanforge)
-Epics still feel like greens since everyone gets them
-Elites are still a joke (excluding mythic+ 10)
    -Tons of bugs
    -Overall terrible gaming experience
    -Inflated economy
-Ability to essentially purchase gold (selling token)
-New capital is constantly empty (disappointing)
-Participation trophy (constantly rewarded gear over and over)
    -Followers
-Complete disconnect from player to developer (Lore does not do his job. Like.. at all. He would rather call the players d*ckbags than interact with them. Or, to resolve sincere issues.)

This is my opinion. Take it how you wish, but don't say I didn't warn you if you try this expansion despite my laundry list of cons. However, if you do think BFA is good, then maybe you should consider selling your PC for an expensive phone to play Diablo Immortal because you are the demographic here. I am not being sarcastic although it may appear this way. I am 100% serious.

Allow me to quote a review that gave this game a 9/10 by "warlockdots":

""* On a side note about the negative user reviews below- its quite obvious that most of them are viewers of a certain popular WOW streamer on Twitch- not only from the time of the posts (he visited the site on stream), but because most of them are over dramatic, over-generalizations about how EVERYTHING sucks in the game and "OMG BfA is so bad blah blah blah" (but don't really lists specifics, nor can they come up with 1 positive thing about the expansion).""

Either your projecting, or this is beyond baseless regarding a twitch streamer being the cause for all negative reviews... The reviews appear to be slowly written over 2 months.. that would be one persistent streamer to visit the rating sites long ago, and many viewers that would have visited frequently thereafter. Tinfoil hat much?

As far as positive aspects to this xpac, I personally liked the art (visuals, graphics, and music), and the story. So that's two things.

    warlockdots:
""Its unfortunate that they are being given platforms to express their specific concerns with the game, say how they believe it should be fixed... and instead they just want to jump on the "I hate this game, gamers rise up, lets stick it to Blizzard" hate-wagon, drop a 0 review on every review platform they can find, and then log back into the game and continue to play while they farm Reddit karma and wait for a transmog contest. ""

Mentioned many times in these reviews are the issues that exist, if blizzard felt the need to fix them. If I can find the issues, a team at blizzard better be able to. Here are a few of the problems with this xpac listed below. The specifics of the issues within can be extrapolated further, but they have been reviewed ad nauseam already.

    Azurite power gear issues
    Repetitive World Quests
    Island expeditions
Inability to reroll (similar to legion legendary issues)
    War fronts
    Unfinished classes
    Conquest gearing system
Warmode system (major problem that hasnt been addressed yet, please research this)
    Balance ineptitudes

I would suggest not belittling every review at every website across the net, just because it suits your mental picture.

I ask you warlockdots, is it also a conspiracy that this xpac has the lowest Critic review ratings vs any wow game ever? The Critics probably just obeyed that one streamers demands as well? Too much Tin Foil for me...

Getting a 79 as AAA game from critics is pretty impressive. We all know Critic reviews are inflated :)

    warlockdots
""Edit #1- (1)I didn't mean to imply "every single bad review" as I referenced that the streamer was just currently on the Metacritic site. i know this because I was a viewer in the chat at the time and watched the reviews going up during that time period. I will accept that I could have worded it better as to what "group" of 0 reviews within the list I was directly referring to.""
(2)Your attempt at accusing me of criticizing multiples sites is you projecting now, as this is actually one of the only times I've addressed it. Mainly because its technically also a derailment from the issues/solutions. (3)You gave a 1/10... a ONE..So do you really want to start insinuating "inflated" reviews. (4)Its pretty clear that deflated your review in the same way. Even if your argument was that the few things you listed are only 10% of the game so worth 1pt/10, then you're saying that you 100% hate every other single aspect of the expansion (as you gave 0 of the remaining 9 review pts). (5)Seems pretty extreme. People in glass houses you know.""

(1)Yes, im sure posting to Meta increased due to a streamers visit. However it doesn't explain months of poor reviews (especially before he/she visited), or every site on the net, or the Critics worst wow score ever (trending downward btw).

(2)Your second point, I assumed (incorrectly) you understood this was a widespread phenomenon. If you believe this is Meta only.. ok

(3)I gave a 1 because I think that's what it deserves. My rating of 1 is unrelated to the known inflation of Critic reviews. I know you wish to conflate them, but its best if you don't try that.

(4)You assume I deflated my review? You are incorrect, I think it deserves a 1. The reason you failed with your assumption here is reflected in your own retort. You weighted the problems I listed as 10% of the game? Says who? To me, that could be 100% of the game.. or more importantly, 100% of the additions/content in the expansion from Legion.

(5)If that list carries enough weight TO ME (not you), it could easily justify me rating it to anything, including 0. Its my opinion...

I wont try to assume what you find important that lead to a 9/10 aside from what you directly state. I am not that arrogant.

Upon releasing BFA blizzard admitted that they indeed did not have enough time to balance classes within the game. Many players are now forced to play through the expansion with broken, boring, and incredibly weak characters that require such a high ilevel to compete with other classes who at the end of the day, bring more damage, healing, utility, suitability than the underpowered classes. In order for these classes to compete, they require a higher item level. The problem with this is due to the way the WoW community is, where everyone, even those who aren't completely within the competitive scene know the current meta it becomes increasingly harder to gain ilevel as an underpowered class due to groups of higher end content refusing to work with your class.

It has been 2 months since the release of BFA and most if not all classes who were underpowered to broken within the beginning of the game remain at the same state with blizzard promising to help these classes even though some (marksmanship hunters) have received no indication as to changes in the future.

Beyond that the constant amounts of RNG on top of RNG has made the game not only frustrating but unfun and unrewarding. It is clear with the current game design decisions the goal of bfa was not to create an exciting experience and to refresh world pvp and faction pride, but to test the player base and see how long subscriptions could be pushed with the least amount of content. Class specific raid gear, tier sets, removal of any sort permanent player progression and a complete draining of class skills has left BFA with less and forced players to grind more only with the knowledge that like Legion all your work at the end of the day will be worth nothing due to end game catch up mechanics and removal of the azerite necklace at the end of the expansion.

Legion's game design set up BFA to feel bad when weapons were made to be removed but player were not to retain their benefits in some way. BFA will set up the next expansion in the same way with the removal the azerite necklace leaving the next expansion in a similar place where classes will feel empty and no actual amount of character progression has occurred over the next two years.

World of Warcraft is setting itself up for a dangerous pattern of game design where mistakes are completely erased and not iterated upon and players who play the game for other amounts of content other than raiding in mythic plus will be left with nothing to do in the future due to the lack of iteration upon pvp systems and crafting systems within the game. World of Warcraft is on track for a downward spiral, and only new direction and acceptance of mistakes will help this dev team move forward in a positive direction.

We arrived at a point where this game is zero fun in the gameplay.

It's also the expansion where the devs finally completely destroyed the Alliance as a playable faction. It started with blood elves in bc of course, continued with various acts like the destruction of several Alliance zones, racials and other disadvantages in favor of the Horde and well, the final nail on the coffin are better looking night elves/nightborne with a huge zone and city and more customisation options for the Horde, better looking troll based on the night elf model, aswell as the only cute race in this game in form of Vulpera/fox race.
In return the Alliance became... no new race like Vulpera but instead disabled gnomes, blue discount elves with tentacle hair and almost no customisation options and awful hair styles and overweight humans. Just wow... plus the only elves city of the Alliance completely destroyed, 2 other zones/warfronts destroyed while the Horde... lost literally nothing.

So yeah, the Alliance is unplayable thanks to the devs.

The faction systems was always toxic, racist and unbalanced af, but the devs managed to make it even worse.

    Horrible game in general though.

Battle for Azeroth offers everything you could expect from a World of Warcraft expansion, but its scale is visibly smaller than Legion’s and there’s no truly new quality here. All that doesn’t change the fact that the charm of this extraordinary MMORPG appeals to me almost as strongly as 13 years ago. [10/2018, p.42]

Blizzard plays it safe, incorporating few innovations while trying to salvage the lore situation of Warcraft due to its constant escalation. Despite all this, BfA remains an entertaining expansion with a lot to offer in endgame for a casual player.
