GTA would never be like Watch Dogs due to its lack of sophistication and obsession with gang violence. Walking the streets of Watch Dogs' Chicago might initially look and feel like GTA, but it is quite different. For a start the game provides you with the names, occupation, salary and some random bit of information (maybe they are into dog grooming) of all the citizens you walk past on the street. This humanises the citizen a little, but the citizens will help you in a minor way if you don't kill them on purpose. Because if your reputation is good with them then they won't immediately report you when they see you with a gun or when driving recklessly. This means that you start to respect the lives of the people around you, something that I haven't experienced in an open world game before. Normally my favourite thing to do is to drive down a pavement and kill as many joggers as I can, but in Watch Dogs I haven't done this because I don't want the hit to my reputation. I actively avoid killing people in car chases and avoid using explosives and causing collateral damage.

Many reviewers have complained about the unnecessary stealth sections, but in a similar way to the encouragement to not kill civilians, I found this to be a refreshing change to both GTA's gang warfare and Saint Row's madness. It encourages more of a Splinter Cell style of gameplay where you explore the area, setup your encounter and then execute a plan, often with gadgets to aid you. Watch Dogs is not about killing hookers or running around naked. It is about exploring a more realistic city and manipulating its systems.

The hacking in Watch Dogs is more limited than I would have liked. I really wanted to steal from the rich and give it to the poor, but this isn't possible as you can't give money or dig into a civilian's life like that. The citizens exist, but not beyond their name, age, occupation and income value. These aren't people you can follow home to meet the family. It would be overly to be able to be more intrusive into the civilian's lives, but obviously this shows the limitations of the current game simulation. Hopefully in sequels Ubisoft will start opening this up, but at the moment you are limited to playing with traffic lights, blowing stuff up, changing traffic lights, controlling automatic bollards and playing with computer controlled bridges.

For the PC version you need to get the graphics patch as Ubisoft has purposefully changed and degraded the graphics on the PC version of Watch Dogs to make it look similar to the console releases. To achieve this they removed a few shaders, changed the fogging effects, the lighting, shadows and degraded the texture quality. Get the community graphics mod, trust me. Plus it runs better with the mod.

Some of the side quests are a little lame, but it is a big game with many different side missions, Chess puzzles, drinking games, poker that you can partially cheat on, slot machines that you can't hack, gang racing matches, gang hideout missions and random crimes to stop. One of the unique Watch Dogs experiences is driving around and then having another player invade your game. This takes the form of another player connecting to your game and you having to find them before a progress bar reaches its limit. Then when you find them, you have to chase them down. This is a fun and sometimes an annoying surprise, but refreshing and different as it doesn't feel scripted or forced. Hacking is the central theme of the game and this enforces that theme more than anything else that Watch Dogs does.

There is an Android and iOS app that allows tablet and phone users the ability to connect to games and play a cat and mouse game where the app user tries to control the city resources to catch the hacker, but as the hacker I had so many disconnects that it wasn't worth my time to play. I suspect players were disconnecting before I won the matches because Watch Dogs takes experience points from players for poor performance.

Some of the characters in Watch Dogs lengthy story are cool like his sister and nephew, and his ex partner Damien, but Pearce himself is very bland and although given a reason to hunt down the people who tried to kill him, the game never shows why he is drawn to hacking as an individual or why he is called a vigilante and not just a normal hacker or criminal by the police. I would have liked to see more motivation and more demonstration on the vigilante part of his character. Or even an explanation of how he got the vigilante label.

The game was fun, it wasn't exactly what I was expecting, but still fun. The AI can be dumb at times and a few graphic glitches here and there(not to mention issues with UPlay), but still worth the money.

to the game it self: it tells the story abaut aidan apart from the mainquest and describes his person more passive, which has to be mentioned because even the magazines don't get that.
the missions are, ...well let's say not linear, but remind of crysis 2: they feel open but aren't.
city itself feels empty and sidemissions are not as interesting as we were shown.
the graphics are a bit ridiculous if we think of the specs. what concerns me the most is the bad port as expected. i really have to switch my graphic card from automatic to highspeed manually cause the program ignores that...this really gave me a shock on my first lunch when i saw the fps.
i bought a key through the internt (~36€). this is a fair price i think, but i wouldn't buy it for a higher one.

I think with this game it's just a matter of how high you set your expectations, if you expect it to the next- gen game that it was hyped to be then you'll most likely be disapointing. However without those expectations I think this game was quite enjoyable.

I really like the concept of the game and the hacking mechanics are extremely fun to use. The story is interesting and had me wanting more after each mission. The multiplayer modes are very fun, with my favourite being Online Hacking. The idea of being invaded is a unique one which I don't think any other game has done before, and I think that's a very cool feature.

Unfortunately I do have to acknowledge the release day issues, while I had no problem downloading the game and running it in offline mode, for the first couple of days signing into uplay was patchy which meant multiplayer aspects of the game were unavailable. Now though all the issues have been ironed out and I'm enjoying the experience.

There are plenty of things to do after you finish the campaign, as I type this I am still just 50% complete on the progression wheel so I've quite a bit more to do.

Finally, although I have seen many complaints from users about the performance of the game I myself have not experienced any issues with performance on this game so I think this issue will differ from system to system.

Graphics good, just not as good as Ubisoft's previous Assassin's Creed IV, or as advertised in E3 2013, not next-gen in any way, but certainly near the top of the previous-gen PS3/Xbox360-era. Enemies ragdoll, and most structures have real physics to drive through. The interface is very slick, with pop-ups and a cool fast white-wireframe transition when you hop from-camera to camera to keep you oriented.
Aesthetically it's boring, browns and blacks: I'm unfamiliar with real Chicago, but I wasn't walking through a distinct city the way Rockstar's GTA series made me feel like visiting the actual cities those were based on.
    STORY: 6
Story development is good if cliched. The protagonist is as boring as they come; when will game developers learn to stop making every hero an Everyman? Having zero character traits doesn't help me identify with him. I want to play as someone different from me, with unique quirks and flaws.
But the biggest problem is that plot isn''t really about hacking the way it pretends to be. I expect videogames to immerse me in a new culture, like Tony Hawk and skateboarding culture, but the script here was written by authors who had never even spoken to a hacker but threw together some Hollywood stereotypes. So of course the female character is the Girl-With-the-Dragon-tattoo. They couldn't hire one single actual hacker as a consultant?
Similarly, there are such wasted opportunities for philosophical discussions, i.e., the role of Anonymous as disorganized collective vigilantes "policing" the new field of cyberspace according to an evolving and non-codified set of ethics, copyright and the right to profit off your own work vs free expression, etc. etc. But the only plot threads the game cares about is the the dangers of overreliance on one centralized technology and Justice vs Revenge, both handled well, but again, if you're going to make a game about HACKING, I expect it to be ABOUT HACKING.
Every character does has a little blurb about them you can read by highlighting them, which adds a bit to the fun of interacting with them, but it's not developed enough for you to do anything more than hack their bank account.
    GAMEPLAY:7
I like that it is hard, especially at first. Without upgrades, you are very vulnerable, so stealth becomes a necessity during shootouts. There's no melee combat; you take down any enemy with one button press but this just reinforces the stealth aspects well, because you get shot to death unless you sneak up on a solitary enemy. You have no offensive capabilities while driving besides ramming the enemy and hacking nearby explosives, so you have to lead enemies on exciting chase. It makes you focus, whereas by comparison Saints Row is so easy it's a series of options for killing enemies rather than an actual "game."
The much-hyped "hacking" ability is just a "use" key that lets you do different things: explode nearby objects, start distractions on an enemy, raise/lower cover or elevators, activate traffic lights (which causes all surrounding cars to unrealistically pile into the intersection, but it's random because of the car distribution), or switch your view to any camera in your line of sight (so you jump from camera to camera). This all works well and adds alot, and it's possible to clear around half of each group of enemies without ever entering the compound if you're clever. But later, when you realize that instant takedown opportunities flash to get your attention, car chases stop being as exciting.
The "parkour" is functional but hardly as fun or developed as in Assassin's Creed.
Driving is ok. I particularly like the reckless speed vs easy crashing of the motorcycles. But it's not great, certainly nowhere near the Playstation2-era-GTA series (which remain the best vehicle control in any videogame). And that's disappointing for a game where you drive this much.
I like that the morality system is functional rather than arbitrary. Shooting feet/knees instead of torsos is a nonlethal takedown; so the distinction comes out of gameplay rather than just switching to a tranquilizer gun identical to your normal pistol. Because it added to the challenge, I also made a constant effort to avoid running over innocents during chases. It's a sign of good design that I did this even though there aren't any real consequences for mass-murderer.
I do like the nonlinearity, even in the main missions. If police show and who that hurts depends on citizens randomly calling when they hear gunshots. You are almost never ordered to use a specific vehicle, or to kill an enemy a specific way, so everything feels organic.
Bizarrely, the occasional hacking minigame is pathetic. I'm not saying they should and had you type in actual computer code with a keyboard, but what they came up with is sad.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Unique and engaging story, with somewhat contrived and repetitious yet immersive gameplay. There are many objects to hack and many skills that are easily unlocked via playing vs grinding. At first glance the many items you can manipulate feel uninteresting and samey, but they do often offer great exploration, distractions, weapons and even vantage points with which to do battle. There are many missions which involve brutal combat for a game that at first seems largely stealth oriented. It scales well in brutality as you amass more weapons and progress through the game though. It also has a nice suppression system whereby the player is shaken and can't aim as well when being shot, which keeps you on your toes as far as cover and tactics. In this sense it never loses it's stealth feel even in tough battles.

This is a game with LOTS of driving though, and it can be a pain or a pleasure depending what vehicle you're using, what mission you're on, and what system and spec you're playing on. There's lots of hacking puzzles that use 2 and 3 way intersection icons on a grid you must align to allow the source current to open up connections one by one. Some are timed, and some are just complex by design. The graphics are a mix of very good and mediocre depending on time of day, area of the map and of course system played on. In general night time and anything with sunrise or sunset looks very good. Optimization is hit and miss, with driving being the worst offender. They've acknowledged it and are working on a patch though.

WD is often compared to GTA, but it doesn't really play like the typical GTA. Besides a huge difference in stories, the hack puzzles and hackable objects while driving, ctOS scans that search for you, and the protag being a vigilante avenging his niece vs a glorified gang banger, it makes for quite a difference in the feel and focus of the game. It also has more replay value, with many difficulty modes. It as well has many mini games, but I find many of them aren't nearly as real world as those in GTA. Instead of bowling, darts, bike riding, etc, you'll often be engaging in very retro arcade silliness, like shooting cartoon-like floating aliens, chasing after glowing cash icons, etc. Yeah they'll throw chess at you as well, but rather than an actual game it's a scenario where you simply have to take X number of pieces in so many moves, which isn't that hard really. Side events are many but could be thought out better. My fave side mission is the finding of several weapon crates, culminating in an epic mission to take on waves of enemies with some elite weapons. Solving DedSec's QR puzzles was also very good, but I found it's final mission a bit aggravating. The main campaign's final mission can also be annoying and even confusing.

The biggest annoyance of this game though is the spotty vehicle handling, which is exacerbated by poor performance on PC while driving. For that reason alone I was going to rate it 7.5/10, but you can only rate in whole numbers here. They HAVE acknowledged the bad performance on PC though and are said to be working on a patch. Even WITH the spotty handling, if the patch significantly improves system performance while driving, I will bump my rating to 8.5/10, or 9 I guess since their rating system here isn't too detailed.

It's a very, very good game, let's just get that out of the way first. Of course, reading metacritic, you wouldn't believe that to be the case, given that the score is currently lower than dross such as Orion Dino Horde...

The reason for the lower meta score isn't because the game is bad in any way, it's more to do with the fact Ubisoft sold a lie with their incredibly over-optimised E3 video and thus expectations were through the roof. So, when those expectations are then not met, either graphically or in terms of gameplay, the Metacritic fume meter goes off the scale and you see the overreaction.

Graphically, on the PC on ultra, the game is one of the best looking games ever made, but it isn't what E3 painted it as, not by a long shot. This is on a par with GTA5, with an Assassin's Creed sheen over the top of it. Gunplay is fine, as is driving, despite the OTT criticism of it because it's a different, slightly more arcadey style to GTA, but it's simply different, not worse.

Hacking involves one button opportunist situations rather than anything detailed. However, it fits into the game, and when you're involved in cat and mouse chases and looking for terrain hacking opportunities the game comes to life. I'm not quite sure what people wanted here... Did you want to stop the game and put in code to hack the game? How would that work in a car chase?

The city is well realised and gives a fair degree of things to do, such as city spots and side games. However, compared to the all-encompassing freedom of other open world games, Watch Dogs often feels a bit cramped. Immersion is lost when you don't see reflections in windows, or when you cause chaos and no police are called, yet when you rob a car they're on you like a rash.

The plot is OK if not stellar. Characters are a bit hit and miss. Side quests provide a welcome distraction to the main missions, but don't have the diversity to really draw you in.

It is a game where you wouldn't regret buying it if it had came out of the blue and was just released. However, after an age of hype and expectation, it falls short. I can highly recommend picking it up, but don't expect the next-gen game changer that many thought it would be.

There are issues to be sure: the graphics could use some optimization (although they are by no means the horrible ugly mess some people are claiming; try playing games from 5 years ago you 12-year-olds!), the DRM is an issue, PC controls need tweaking, and the driving could use some work. Nothing to kill the game, though.

I was originally disappointed by the dumed down graphics but when i actually look at what they looked like at E3 its not that far off, the only wig difference are the lack of Wind effects and the NPC face textures The Gun play is Fun, the Driving although it takes a long time to get used to is extremely fun once you do get the hang of it. People keep saying that Aiden is a uninteresting Main character and it was hard for them to sympathize or feel connected to his character but i personally did not have that trouble but that's just me. all the other characters were interesting and i really felt for them. The story is pretty good, not great but still pretty good, with interesting Villains. All this is coming from someone who has been Hyped since the First trailer and you don't see me giving it a 10/10 or a 0/10 for that matter i tryed to keep a cool head and take everything into account and give it what it really deserves.     - awful graphics;
    - generic missions (like mini-games);
    - doesn't have a solid story;

This review will be solely based upon the game itself, not Uplay, not launch issues, not anything at all which is directly game related. But I would like to mention that the optimization is fine! People just need to update their drivers. I run the game at 1080p, high/ultra settings with a setup featuring a GTX 670 and an i5-3570, with an average FPS of 45.

The game itself looks great! It might be one of the best looking sandbox games at the moment. The reflections of puddles and the water is spot on. Textures look great, I have not yet found spots which are muddy or undetailed. Shadows are not static as some people mention, enabling anti-aliasing will help upon it and cranking the shadow details up a little. Furthermore, it's just amazing seeing how objects are following the wind, the trees, trash, paper, leaves etc.

The AI is not dumb, it's actually one of the most realistic and best responding AI I've tried in a long time. When stealing cars people call the police, if you draw your gun they run in fear and call the police, if you're spotted during someone doing a crime they stop it of fear. Shooting officers in the knee during a chase will take them out without killing them, why did it take so long for something so simple yet useful as this?

Gameplay works great. There are many mini-games, many crimes and many other forms of smaller side-quests to do, which are great for the most part, yet they will become repetitive in the long run. The main story itself is long and entertaining, without spoiling anything I can tell it's different and a fresh breath in the gaming industry. The hacking is easily done by a click of a button and I like that. The difficulty of the hacking is to do it at the right moment, so you can either get past guards, escape the police or take someone out. The driving works, yet is nothing fantastic. When you start to drive the car accelerates at an unrealistic pace, it takes a while to get used to, but isn't game breaking.
You can also see the game is made by Ubisoft, a little parkour borrowed from Assassins Creed is well executed and brings life into chases on foot.

The game is worth it's price. I haven't met any issues yet and I recommend to anyone who enjoys sandbox games! Now go hack a dude who often buys online porn!

Let me start off by saying this is NOT a bad game. It may be poorly optimized for PC, but it's still a great game. It may not bring anything new in modern Third person shooters, but it does a great job of making Chicago feel alive. Everyone has a name, and you can also learn their secrets too.

Contrary to other people's reviews, I found this game very great, and I've been playing through it solidly since release. The shooting is nice, responsive and fantastic! Hacking your way around Chicago is great and it really does help out in those car chases and battles.
Driving could do a bit of work, yet again I'm not a driving enthusiast when it comes to games, but yet for an open world game the driving could have been better. Too slippery. The story is really well done, and late into the game you begin to sort of feel an attachment to these characters, it's really great.

This is not worthy of GOTY 2014, but it's still a good game to play, rent it if you want.

This game is unfairly rated because of overly high expectations (even though it was overhyped) and simply bad optimization. Here is a FAIR, unbiased review:

    -

    The Pros:
+ Great, Seamless movement/parkour system (worth at least 1 point out of 10)
    + Awesome Graphics
+ Good Story Missions (even if the story is more than a little shallow)
+ Gigantic, detailed city (from every warehouse to every park to every alley, the city is beautifully crafted)
+ Vigilante System - You build up a reputation, the worse it is (killing cops, hurting civillians) the more likely it is that citizens will report you to the police; same goes for vice versa
+ Great audio (especially for weapons)
+ Lots of minigames (Chess, Shell game, Drinking game - although it feels a bit as if its trying to live up to GTA V's standards)
+ Feel like batman without the cape (even sound like him)
+ Immersive environment - I love learning the backstory of almost every citizen that passes by
+ Side missions are alright, if a little rushed (such as the missing persons branch where you have to track down a serial killer, the ending is somewhat anti-climatic to be honest)
+ Stealth is great in this game (especially for gang hideouts) IF you try hard enough, if you're lazy and rush in without thinking you'll just spoil it for yourself
+ Realistic firefights, you take a lot of damage from bullets etc and the game actually feels challenging as opposed to other open world games
+ Great characters, but not paticularly Aiden (Jordi Chin and Bedbug are the best)
+ Innovative Multiplayer - Kind of like the matrix. A player blends into your game, you don't even know they're there then POOF! they're gone. Along with some of your money. And XP.

    The Grays:
x Cover system - Not the best system ever, but certainly not game-breaking
x Hacking is very useful at times but somewhat feels like a gimmick to be brutally honest and is not always viable in gunfights or car chases. Fun to play with though... for a while
x Progression System - Had a lot more potential, but was let down by not enough unlockable perks in the hacking and combat tree
x Hacking minigames - More potential, quite boring to be honest and only give you a tiny litlte kick when you get them right after hacking a billion cameras and unlocking hundreds of doors only to get a few minigames as a bonus for unlocking a ctOS station.

    The Cons:
    - The gunplay is barely above average and feels somewhat clunky
    - The story is uninspired - I was expecting a deep, rich story which roped me in, just to find that I was let-down with a hard to understand (at some points) and unevenly paced story branch
    - THE PERFORMANCE!!!!!!!!! I can run the game on Ultra with about 36-50 fps on average but there is TERRIBLE stuttering which usually comes when I'm skyping, the game hasn't been patched since day one, this is the REAL game breaker for me and so many others. Fix your damn game Ubisoft
    - UPlay. This uninspired piece of crap almost ruins the whole experience.

Verdict: Without the performance issues and UPlay, this would get a 9/10 but I'm going to drop it down to 8/10. The game deserves a chance which most will not give it - hating on it simply "because". The game is great, go get it *IF YOU CAN RUN IT* or wait until the price drops/the game is patched.

Watch Dogs is a great game if we bear in mind that it's the first title in that category from Ubisoft. As a Nvidia-user there are almost no bugs except for the stuttering while driving around. A lot of people have been giving this game very poor reviews based on launch reactions. As a result a lot of people colorfully added things such as "nothing to do in the city" which I might add is an outright lie and people saying things such as NPC's are lacking in intelligence, which is also a lie. I suspect this is the result of many people who could not actually play the game, but the fact that some people list their total time played regarding the game as two hours should be a big understanding.

Before I get into a review of the game itself, let me just say that PC version of the game is buggy to being outright unplayable right now (that should change at the end of the week or sometime next week when a patch comes out) as well as poor optimisation issues. Once this changes I will go ahead and amend this portion to let people know how well the game runs. So if you're looking to get the game, I would recommend waiting till they patch the game.

Now for the content, after playing about 6 hours I just got done with the main starter mission and just entering Act 1 (which took only about 15-25 minutes getting through btw) I spent most of my time actually using ctOS system to hack away at people's account's, profiling people to see what they've done and what their footprint is, stopping randomly generated crimes and hunting down people who just decided to cause a public altercation. The wealth of this content kept me quite busy when I finally realised I was playing way for over 4 hours before I decided to do one of the Digital Trips.

The one I did was about the Spider Tank and I can tell you it is as fun as it sounds. You control a Spider Tank and wreck havoc on the city itself. It is so fun causing chaos and destruction I had to force myself to get away from it when I realized I hadn't eaten for 8 hours. When there comes a time I have to force myself to stop playing in order to eat because I hadn't had anything in the last 8 hours, to me that is a great first impression.

Now about the hacking, a lot of people complain that the hacking is one button contextual notions and has nothing to do with real hacking. To those of you have similar criticisms or to those of you have seen them and agreed, might want to understand how script hacking works because most people need to understand one obvious thing, in a central computing system where the security is overarching and the same, such one button exploits are not only possible, they're inevitable. This is coming from someone who actually frequents hacker forums where these kinds of discussions are almost routine among the political forums.

So how is the hacking you might ask? It's fun as **** I can't tell you how much I began to laugh my ass off when I started a traffic jam by screwing with the freeway lighting system, which systematically ended up turning into a riot after a few people started punching each other after arguing for about five minutes about who's fault it is. It was a natural chain reaction that felt totally emergent and it literally made my insides hurt.

With the profiling there is a bit of satirization that makes me just laugh my ass off. One person I profiled had an internet footprint of actually purchasing a crap load of hentai... I'm not making this up, I literally died laughing when I saw it, it had an almost GTA style parody feel to it which made it all the more interesting.

Car's handle like **** not much to say, but then again with the keyboard and mouse I tend to hear car's don't work well together. Will give a better detailed impression once I try it with a gamepad, but suffice to say, the car's handle like they should, but just not optimized for keyboard and mouse.

Now just to let people know I have given this game a 7 simply for the fact that I have not played that much of the content so far (even though I get the feeling I'm going to be playing the game for the next 6 months and not get tired of it) but I will amend my score based on more gameplay and will probably rewrite this review as time goes by. As a result, the score will also change. But I have a feeling that this game will probably get a perfect 10 if not a 9 from me.

Sadly, the game doesn’t live up to expectations, though not for the reasons that many of the people who complained about the graphical downgrade (the game, frankly, still looks pretty decent) seemed to think was the cause.

The game starts off well enough – the protagonist, Aiden Pearce, is confronting the man who caused a car accident that ultimately killed his niece. It was a hit on Pearce in revenge for Pearce doing a job at the Merlaut hotel, where he walked in and hacked into the system along with his partner, the shady Maurice. After beating up the man in search of the men who sent him on the job, Aiden still doesn’t get the answer he wants. He is forced to sneak out of the stadium and create a distraction while his new partner, Jordi, smuggles the man out.

Aiden is forced to cause a blackout, turning out the lights in the stadium and creating distractions so he can get past the cops unseen. When he gets out, the police chase him in an exciting car chase, and after Aiden finally escapes, he goes back to his hotel to talk with a mysterious hacker who might be able to get him some more information.

This sequence is really great and does a great job of selling the game to the audience – we see a number of characters, we get a revenge plot going, we have a central mystery to solve (both who ordered the hit on Pearce, and why), we see the comedy relief in the form of Jordi, and we see… okay, Pearce himself sucks, but whatever. How can all of this not come together into something awesome?

    Ubisoft found a way.

The trouble, in the end, is that the game is very scattered. The central premise of the game is that you are a reformed “fixer”, a hacker/thug, but a great deal of what you do in the game is not only blatantly criminal, but the main sidequests are taking out hits on other people and stealing information. For a supposed vigilante, you’re pretty much just blatantly a criminal, possibly even worse than the people you’re facing off with given your body count and reckless use of various military grade weapons, including the game-breaking grenade launcher that one-shots almost all enemies and vehicles.

The phone spying only rarely really ends up mattering – while looking at people’s private lives seems cool, in the end it is just random stuff that pops up and frankly has little weight after a while. I just started tuning it out by the end of the game, and while some of the ideas – like sending people distracting text messages or phone calls based on the snippets of their personal lives – was neat, there was very little of it that was actually used directly in the plot.

Indeed, for an uber-hacker, you really just feel like a thug with a gun and a magic smart phone that various real hackers soup up for you – which would be fine if the game actually called you out for that, but it really doesn’t do much to do so.

About three quarters of the scattered plot is driven by Pearce himself being blackmailed rather than Pearce’s own quest for revenge. The identity of the people behind the hit ends up being a letdown – built up to be a scary organization that cannot be beaten, you instead find out you’ve been fighting (and handily beating them) the whole game. And for a game about hacking, the game seems to focus an awful lot on shootouts with people, with only the odd bit where you guide someone to safety through cameras – a neat idea that only gets used a few times, and feels much more cerebral than just mowing people down with your grenade launcher and sniper rifle. Most of the time it is easier to just kill the bad guys than use stealth, which feels wrong in a game about a sneaky hacker, and in the end, the hacking mechanic feels more like a gimmick stuck into a cover-based shooter than the central aspect of the game.

The only thing that the game really does well is the multiplayer. While several of the modes are not so great, there are two modes – tailing and hacking – which are really amazing. The reason why? These modes are fully integrated into normal gameplay. According to the game, you have “fixers” out after you – people trying to hack you, steal your data, and identify you. But the brilliant part is that this is *other players*, who from their point of view, are going after bad guy “fixers” on behalf of the citizenry. You have no idea whether or not someone is after you – your first and only warning of being hacked is that you’re told that someone is hacking you, and you need to track them down within a location. You’re never even told that you’re being tailed – unless you notice someone following you around and looking suspicious, you’ll have no idea that you’re being tailed. It creates a real sense of paranoia.

Sadly, the rest of the game isn't so brilliant. In the end, it is a mediocre cover-based shooter.

It varies, however when you drive fast it can drop to like 45 which creates quite a stutter. I used MSi afterburner (Rivatuner) to lock the framerate to 45 fPS and it plays completely smooth all the time with no stutter. 45 FPS is more than enough. The next gen consoles run it at 30 FPS.
My laptop is a i7@3.80GHz, 880M GTX and it runs it on the same settings (apart from it didn't have the highest AA options). I fix the framerate to 33 FPS to stop any stuttering and it plays silky smooth even at 33 FPS.

I do not understand why users are so angry with the game.
It really is not a GTA but is not crap.
I thought it was good and I'm running perfectly in settings optimized by Geforce Experience.
    Without graphics problems.

The multi-player hacking adds excitement to a single player story game. The side-missions like the QR Code solving make you really think compared to other open-world games trying to find those hard to find cameras. Makes you think outside the box.

Yes, there is some things that are not great about it... the driving at first felt like I was driving a semi-truck... now I figured it out better and treat it as a drifting game. I can easily win any get away missions or multi-player races. People... think outside the box. I do agree having a pipes game is a horrible add to hack into security. It just doesn't make sense. Also, there is some minor 3D building issues I have run across... but just minor. Not the hype problems the video game media is saying.

I highly recommend if you want a problem solving, mini multi-player open world game. I'm hoping that the DLC is as good in the future.

...And a note, if you are having technical issues with the game not working, Upgrade Your Machine! I haven't had one problem and I'm running on a 30" Dell Monitor at 2560x1600 with a single NVidia 770 GTX.

If, however, you're happy as long as you feel engaged by the immediate situation of the mission you're playing at that moment, you'll be fine. Frankly, I find it a bit strange to knock WD on story as if games are a medium that excel in telling stories - after 40 years, there's still a long way to go - and given the number of games with AI that simply hides behind walls and plays Whack-A-Mole, the AI is a lot better than it's been given credit for by some. The AI will flank, it'll try and bring you out of cover with grenades, and that's a lot more than can be said for many open world games. Expand

Story is awesome! Still there is a bunch of true misses like really bad car-phisics and city-scape made of concrete and paper)) Srsly, all you can brake is as fragile as paper)) But! Stealth and shooting mechancs are OK, no more no less. Chases and car-stealth are realy something new to me. And there's one thing that makes them all shine with new colors.. it's HACKING!

So I've been eagerly anticipating this game since its E3 debut. So far I've loved it. I've read a fair few of the negative reviews, and while there are a couple points I agree on, and which are the reason for not giving it a 10, all in all I think the PC players were expecting a little more than what is realistic. So I've been eagerly anticipating this game since its E3 debut. So far I've loved it. I've read a fair few of the negative reviews, and while there are a couple points I agree on, and which are the reason for not giving it a 10, all in all I think the PC players were expecting a little more than what is realistic. So here goes:

Story: 8/10. Like most open world games, the story suffers because when you have an intense story, you can't help but break immersion to go play poker or treasure hunting. If you were to stick to the story I think it's good, but not fantastic.

Music: 4/10. This is the bad part. The soundtrack is so lackluster that I usually turn the radio off the moment I get in the car. The ambient sounds of the city are more interesting than the music choices.

Map: 10/10. Easy to get around while still feeling like a real city. Haven't run into any places yet where I felt stranded or lost.

Driving: 7/10. Not as bad as people make it out to be. If anything it feels a little more realistic than most games. That may not be something that many people want. GTA V felt like the cars were on rails. This game punishes you for poor driving. Cornering in particular.

Combat: 9/10. Being as I use the environment as much as I can, which I think is the spirit of the game, I rely on firearms as little as possible. Generally I only break out the big guns if I make a mistake and have to shoot my way out. Otherwise I only use my silenced pistol and baton. Guns are not ridiculously accurate. If you get angry that you can't make a perfect headshot with a pistol from 100 yds every time, this isn't the game for you. Likewise if you want to group 15 rds fired on auto into a 3 inch circle at 100 yds. Isn't going to happen.

Mini games. 10/10. Great games in and of themselves, in my opinion. Spider Tank is gleeful wanton destruction. The shell game will actually challenge your attention. Took a couple failures before I even realized the guy quickly swaps the ball into other cups, just like the real dudes on the street. Poker moves a bit slow for the sake of realism, but it's fairly solid. The drinking game is pretty fun. I've spent the most time on the chess challenges. Most of the games you find set of puzzles to solve with pre-arranged boards. Like capture 8 pawns in 8 moves with a single queen, or survive 6 moves without being check-mated.

Graphics: 9/10. Here's the big one. So many reviews I've read complain about being mislead about the graphics. I completely disagree. Ubisoft has been very upfront with the huge video card requirements you will need to run this at max settings. My rig can run just under max, and the game is beautiful. Dynamic shadows, consistent wind effects, damn near photo-realistic water. I can only assume the people complaining are running at low settings.

I have picked up the game without paying the full price for it, so far i reached act 2 and this is what i have to say about the game. The game itself is amazing the city feels alive with plenty side missions etc, i do not recommend picking up the game for PC simply because its poorly optimized. Apparently the 4.6 AMD beta drivers help boost the fps and gameplay.

The game is pretty cool. Compared to GTA V, this game pales. But although the game isn't perfect, I can't say it's not a good game. Yes, I quickly finished it, but the concept is innovative and I like the game. We can wait a Watch Dogs 2 fixing any small defects.

The story is not bad but nothing special. I managed to finish the game in a few days so in terms of campaign content there 20+ hours in there, What I enjoyed most was the free roam; There are so many things that are destructible in this game as well as a good amount of cars to choose from. I felt that I could waste away hours just fooling around.

    Pro (IMO)

    - Good Amount of side content
    - Rather Enjoyable game play
    - Awesome Free-roam

    Cons (IMO)
    - The UPLAY experience
    - Texture pop ins
    - Mediocre Story

In my honest opinion I feel that this game deserves way more than the 3-5 people have been giving it as I enjoyed it to a good extent so I will be giving it a 8/10 :)

The open world is a little lacking but is better by bounds than any of the Mafia games or LA Noire. I found the driving rough at first but that was because I was used to gta v's driving and once I practiced a little with the drifting I actually turned out to be really fun. It's challenging and more realistic as it should be. I would ultimately give the game a rating of around 8.5 if I could as a user review but I decided to give it a 9 since most of the user reviews are people who are giving a 0-3 because it's not the 9.9 game they expected which is just unfair. Maybe wait for it to decrease in price a little but overall worth playing at least once. Expand

This is not a "realistic" game, hacking did not involve searching memory for pointers and references, but a simple mini-puzzle. Cars where extremely resilient when you drove them, and the physics were definitely comic. However, that made it more fun.

Gameplay seemed most fun as I tried to sneak through the majority of the hostile areas, but then resulted in Max Payne slow motion gun fights towards the end. I found it very entertaining.

This was a fairly solid game, the worst thing I can say about it was the pre-release hype which was so obviously BS. I'm glad I bought this game, I really enjoyed putting down the main antagonists at the end. Why do we have so many Trolls?!?

Fun game to play but not a masterpiece. If you are waiting for a new game to play then pick it up for a few hours of fun, but don't bother if you are looking for a complex game with an in depth story line. There is a person in my game and they have been tailing me. They are trying to still info from me and i didn't know it until they started hacking. I was just about to do a mission. This game is amazing and if they add co-op missions to the free roam it will be one of the greatest this year. All the negative reviews will either have no merit or purely be based on how they couldn't get the game to work. In that regard thats not a review of the game it self but on either their hardware or Ubisoft horrible servers and bad optimization. Games great and you may have to fiddle the settings i give it a 10/10 (9.5/10) truly but gotta counter the trolls.

The best comparison I would give this game is to Assassins Creed 1, this game is solid w/ a lot of potential, and its sequel will make the most of that potential and be phenomenal, but the original will just remain solid.

    Positives:
    - Hacking is fresh and fun
    - Upgrade system is well done
    - A lot of fun extra's to do (Such as Digital Trips)
    - Solid Voice Acting
    - A city which feels 'alive'
    - Enjoyable Multiplayer
    - Good music system
    - Generally interesting story
    - Fantastic Gunplay

    Mediocre Gameplay Elements:
    - The graphics are decent (rarely detract from the experience), but could be a LOT better
    - Sometimes generic missions
    - Limited Player Customization

    Negatives:
    - Stiff Driving
    - Abysmal Uplay Multiplayer Servers
    - No Car Customization
    - Occasionally poor AI

Additional Thoughts: I have enjoyed my time so far with watch dogs, I have put in about 20 hours, it does start a little slowly, but it picks up later on and the story-line gets fairly interesting.

    Overall: 8.5
A great start to an awesome new franchise, but the potential wasted is unfortunate. Most likely the sequel will be immensely better.

The main gameplay is rather simplistic and uniform. Run or drive around doing and mostly pressing Q to hack something, and occasionally shoot at something.
But it is strangely intriguing to escape the police by stopping a train, jumping in and drive on.
Also there's some stealth gameplay when taking out gangs and racing gameplay when driving challenges (although car handling is waaaay out the window and actually quick frustrating as your over civilians for penalty).
There's gameplay where you stop crime where it can be difficult to avoid detection (eagle eye NPCs) and then take down the culprit at the right time. So there's a good deal to do - but as said - most of the time it's rather uniform and ultimately simplistic.
It's also completely overpowered that you can almost instant hack from surveillance camera to camera and blow up bad guys that way - but I guess it would be difficult to make a proper stealth game when the theme is hacking.
Money in the game comes from just randomly hacking civilians back accounts and then going to an ATM - again - rather simplistic.
The story I've not advanced much but it is also a minor thing compared to the sandbox game.

I did get some sort of hacking mini-game when hacking a cTOS tower, but there wasn't much game in the mini-game as it was just pressing some nodes to allow a data flow.

I did try an on-line portion and this might be where the game shines a bit more. There are a number of missions where you either hack or prevent hacking from real life player enemies and some driving contests (which given the handling of the cars could be quite chaotic). Unfortunately I suck in this game and failed my first on-line mission terrible - so newbies might get run over by experienced players and that would kill the on-line part for newcomers and detract a lot from their experience - but I think the online part could be an addictive and different experience compared to so many other games. Especially if they expand a bit on the missions and make a few more non-combat missions.

All in all - the game is decent enough in smaller doses (I don't see myself playing 4 hours in a row) and does have a lot of qualities. But it is let down by simplicity which makes me wonder what they've actually spend all the time on.

The city is beautifully created - but as always with all these games. There's not much to do as most building are closed to you. A lot of civilians are rendered giving a nice populated feel to the city, but these moving objects are little other than ways to get cash.

For a game with the hacking theme I feel this game misses it mark and it could have been much more fleshed out instead of just pressing Q to hack traffic lights, Q to hack trains, Q to hack signs, Q to hack for money, Q to .... well, you get my drift. It could just as well be any theme game.

But all in all - it still is strangely fun, but it just falls short. It's definitely not a 9 or 10 game but neither is it a 0 or 1 game.
    7/10 from me so far

Am I disappointed by this game's graphics? A bit, I expected better. Did I try to compare it to the E3 demo? no, because the point is not to compare the game to it's E3 demo, it is TO RATE THE GAME AS IT IS.
The whole "fake E3 demo" thing doesnt show that this game is bad, it shows that some guys at ubisoft are liars. You know what? welcome to the world kiddoes, because it is common knowledge to not believe everything you see or hear !
And it's not the first time there are blatant differences between an E3 demo of a game and the published game itself.
There are, I'll admit, some issues with the game performance wise, I had some lag spikes myself, however, Skyrim has lag spikes too, do you see me giving it a 0/10 because of that? no!
I haven't had any other problems apart from some very rare crashes (only three times during my playthrough of the game).
If you had any more than that, considering the average age of the people who reviewed, I'm guessing you didn't check to see if your PC had the minimum specs for running the game.

This was my message to the +1000 who came here just to give this game a 0/10

    Now to my review.
The game is quite good, the gameplay is innovative and interesting, though there are some problems like the fact that police can sometimes be evaded too easily with the use of a boat.
The game comes loaded with side content: the girl rescue missions, the Augmented Reality mini games the High-on-drugs mini-games.
It's definitely a fun game to play, even if it doesnt last very long.
Gunplay wise, I appreciate the fact that you can use cover everywhere and stealthily approach your enemies, though I believe that maybe having access to 20 weapons at once is a bit exaggerated.
I personally thought that Aiden Pierce was quite a realistic character (obviously not many people think the same way), he shows that he has human emotions and throughout the game he has difficulties coming to terms with his actions.
I personally love the way cars handle, I might as well remind you that this is NOT a racing game.

Would I recommend this game for purchase? Absolutely, if you like GTA-like games that is, However I strongly recommend you try out Saints Row and Sleeping Dogs first if you haven't already because those two games deserve more praise than this one.
Still, this game is far from bad and shame on the people who say otherwise.

A lot of people bought it without knowing about 64bit requirement, not knowing that the ultra textures are optimized to work in 4k resolutions.(not MUCH difference between high and ultra on 1080p monitor)
Geforce tweaking guide (which some people show to each other as proof that nvidia knew of the supposed bad optimization) is nothing more than guidelines for making the game look prettier.

I even saw some youtube videos showing users shooting every npc on the street, and saying to the listeners: "I can't find any fun in this game.i'm looking for some fun, but i cant find any! *Boom*Boom* Maybe five more minutes and something fun will come out of it!"

The game is solid, the plot is a little cheesy, but what do you expect in this day and age?
(times with best selling AAA action games without any plot at all)
The graphics are very nice, LOD's are beautiful, light reflections are gorgeous, i didnt saw ONE ugly texture (on high). Water rendering is quite pretty.
That said, there is something wrong with dynamic shadows, there ARE shadows from small light sources
but the dynamic shade for the city is somewhat lacking, (eg The shadows are not moving dynamically with the sun, but rather have stages) and there are no shadows cast when walking through the front of a car with lights on. (GTA IV had them)
Finally, the game adds some nice new options and ideas to your classic city GTA-ish experience.
The hacking really finds its place in the sandbox universe, from slowly setting-up the traps using the cameras, to dynamically influencing the infrastructure in high speed chase.

The only thing that scared me off is this dubstep-ish feel to mini games ("digital experiences"),
bit like in the last Saints Row game. It looks like the game was in production for a long time, and they
added (after the shocking success of Saits Row IV) some teenage arcade touches (breaks the realism
of the game a bit, but nothing excessively brain-dead)

I, personally, can't imagine an objective point of view from witch i would give this game anyting less than 5/10. Anything less than 5(maybe 4) is trolling or frustartion from first-week technical problems, or AMD owners with little patience for driver fixes.
I remember the same problem few years ago with EA's The Saboteur (sandbox city simulation too), which hated ATI cards, and was unplayable (i owned one at the time), but the users Metacritic score is 8.0 !!!

There is something wrong with common PC user. If you expect plug and play - type of games, stick to the consoles, if you don't have the energy needed to make PC games look their best (by fiddling with driver options, using beta drivers, comparing different graphic levels, using the web to learn how to utilize the power of your hyper-powerfull setups) why bother buying expensive PC's?

I would give it 10, if not for the publisher problems (uplay is horrible), too much marketing, and giving all these moronic promises about 60fps and next-next-gen graphics.

The game runs on High textures, Ultra quality all options switched on - all besides shadows (high),
TXAA x4. My setup is i5-2400, geforce GTX 660, 8gb Ram. No SSD. Around 30 FPS, maybe less, the trade-off is worth it, TXAA 4x really takes the textures to the next level (even distant ones).

If you want to play with Ultra textures, and you have similar PC to mine, buy SSD drive. It takes the hiccups away even with 2GB vram.

I found only one irritating bug - the textures and the shader sometimes break, and surfaces become transparent (you can see things behind the textures). But changing the resolution reloads the shader, and everything comes back to normal.

Firstly, i am using an i7 4770, Zotac GTX 770 2GB AMP!, 16GB RAM, and i am running the game on ultra with very little frame issues. Sometimes i get fps drops, but hey, its a new game, and it won't be very well optimized until after a few patches.

The game itself is very nice, the graphics may not be on par to what was on the footage shown at e3 a year ago, but what game has been like

Gameplay has been good, i have played 7 hours and barely touched the main story as i have jumped straight into the side missions which have interested me greatly. This is especially with the intrusion missions (Which let you see into peoples lives) and the code missions.

So far, i am very happy with the outcome of the game. I just wish to see those few reviews which moan about Uplay servers and down vote the game to take that to Uplay themselves rather than hitting it at the game.

Personally I was annoyed that I cannot run it with vsync, because it really kills performance. With vsync off it mostly runs at 1080p / 60 fps on high details (my machine is i5-2500k, gtx 760 oc). Do a bit of research on your hardware before purchasing, to avoid frustration.
As for the game - I really enjoyed the 1v1 seamless multiplayer - hacking and tailing, which allows other people to come into your game and try to stay undetected, while you search for them. Similarly you can invade other people’s games, but the key point is that the aggressor can never use weapons (or he gets kicked). This type of multiplayer involves many game mechanics - sneaking, hacking, shooting and driving - all in all a great experience and I’m looking forward to its evolution.
Stealth gameplay also deserves a mention - you can choose lethal or non-lethal approach and a lot of the hacking mechanics complement it very well. Hacking was probably the focal point of all marketing surrounding Watch Dogs - in my view it adds interesting twists to traditional game mechanics - car chases, online racing, hacking, and stealth.
As a conclusion - if the game sounds interesting to you, don’t get caught in the hate, and try it out.

First I'm going to talk about the problems I experienced with the game, then I will talk about graphics and finally I will tell you why I still like the game a whole lot.
I had to deal with frequent crashes (a minimum of one in two hours), bad performance (running 680s sli), bad mouse and keyboard handling (played with my xbox controller after the first 5 minutes ingame) and finally a bug corrupted my save file and I had to start the game all over again. Also there were the Uplay problems on the release day that were really easy to avoid.
The frequent crashes were annoying but I can live with that. Bad performance? Turn the settings down. Yes it's that easy. Playing with the controller was actually very nice after I got used to it. The corrupted save files really pissed me off but I really wanted to play that game and I was no that far into the game anyways.
Now let's get to the graphics. Complaining about stupidly hyped graphics is ridiculous, especially if you own a crappy PC that is not even close to running high or even ultra settings. The game looks nice, you can't argue that. It is not the best looking game ever that's for sure but it plays in a very high league. The textures partially blew my mind because they are god-tier on ultra. You have to consider that Watch Dogs is an open world game, so uber graphics as you can see in Metro: Last Light for example (if you don't like the example just take one of the best looking games you personally know) are not possible in this setting because then performance would be even worse. Considering that Watch Dogs performs pretty okay, hopefully a future patch will make it even better.
To round it all up, yes, the game has its problems but I had tons of fun playing it. It is far from perfect, definitely not the game of the year, but damn, it's fun!
The hacking is fun because you just have to press a button (many people complained about that) because it keeps gameplay fluent. The minigames are fun. There is actually a lot of stuff to do in the city (I already have more than 20 hours ingame and I never got bored) and your actions affect the city a little bit. If you just randomly kill people and cause a blood bath on every corner of the street, people will notice you and call the police. If you are very nice the police won't even come after you because the citizens see you as a hero.
My conclusion is the following: the hype really hurt the game, the game is far from perfect but it really is fun! Go buy this game ;)

The game has performance issues on PC, but it is not a bad game, the game has great quality graphics, immersion, good script and excellent gameplay. The physical vehicle is simple, but nothing that detracts from gameplay. Many negative reviews are given by the hype created at E3 2012, but even so the game deserves that where negative critics.

    3. Hacking - everything - from bridges to car alarms to grenades to steam pipes to police helicopters to cameras...awesome stuff, and easy to do on the go.
    4. Firefights - gunning baddies, not necessarily fatally - shooting knees neutralizes them, for peaceful amongst us. You can avoid most of the combat through smart stealth. Cover system is solid.
    5. Puzzles
6, Minigames - lots of them, and fun ones!
    7. Narrative and voice acting
    8. The best multiplayer I have ever played - you have to see it to believe it, pairing people in different scenarious, even with players on mobile phones with a special app!

I can't say enough good things about that game - there are negatives too.

Main character is too .... two sided. Game is not sure whether it wants him to be good protector of innocent or just an **** murdering people for no reason. His character is a bit flat too, graphics is a bit average(google the worse mod - makes the game look 10 times better and stutter less), and some missions are bit repetitive.

I think many of the comments here are based on either console or playing this with a controller on a PC (a ridiculous idea in both cases). Those complaining about graphics on the PC side clearly have under-powered rigs as I've been delighted with the game. If you enjoy story driven open-world games and aren't just out to steal cars and smash stuff up you'll really enjoy this game. Comparing it to GTA and other open world games I find it refreshing to finally be playing a character I actually LIKE and can root for! Kudos to UBI-soft Montreal for creating a character who isn't a black and white stereotype.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've made an account just so I can write a review that gives some justice to this game. It's obvious that the majority of the unfavorable reviews come from people who didn't bother to play the game for more than a few hours. It's true, I had the exact same reaction after the first couple of missions. The driving seemed awful, the hacking... simplistic and the world cluttered to the point of it overwhelming you.

But you know what? I'm glad hacking simple objects is as easy as tapping a button. If I had to solve a puzzle every time I wanted to change all of the lights to green just so I can confuse the cops chasing me, then I really would have been frustrated. The hacking process gets more complicated, it just depends on what you're trying to access. I think it's well implemented and fun, without ever becoming too repetitive.

The driving seems awful, but again, it's cleverly done. You can't just hop in a minivan and expect it to handle like a sports car. Some cars are unwieldy, because they're unwieldy in real life as well. Driving a Camaro or a sports hatchback is a whole different experience. What do you know? It's actually fun.

I don't generally care about the graphics, but even so, the game is not an eyesore. I think they're more than adequate.

The story and the voice acting are really good. Some of the characters are very likeable, some are the hate magnets they were designed to be. And most importantly, the story does what it should do. Get a reaction out of you. The human trafficking mission broke my heart, especially since one of the girls I found around was of my own nationality.

Even the side missions, whom you would have expected to be crappy, manage to be engaging enough to make you want to finish them all.

I've experienced no technical difficulties whatsoever with the game, although some complain about them.

The bottom line: It's not a copy of Assassin's Creed or GTA. It stands on its own, and it's doing a great job out of it. It's a good game, and it damn well doesn't deserve all of the negative reviews.

WTF: Random Character Profiler “HIV Postive, Occupation: Blood Donor”

Watch Dogs being one of the most (if not the most) hyped games of 2014 so far, we have to wonder if it lives up to the hype train behind it, so hop on and lets find out! Chu-chu!
You play as a character named Aiden Pearce, a highly skilled criminal hacker in a futuristic day Chigaco which is hyper-connected to a centralized system called CtOS. After his niece is killed in an attempt to shut Aiden Pearce down for good, Aiden seeks to bring his own form of justice to the ones who caused it making him a vigilante.
From the start of the game you are thrown into a short (and I mean short) tutorial mission, afterwords being given a huge city to run around and explore. You can tell Ubisoft put lots of effort into this games environment because it feels alive. From citizens taking on random actions such as forgetting coffee on the roof of their car which they go back to retrieve or a police chase soaring past you while you're using your phone to manipulate the world in your favour. This leads to many interesting game mechanics, the obvious one being a highly skilled hacker with the entire city at your fingertips.

Hacking traffic lights to cause major crashes, stopping and starting trains, and blacking out the city with your smart-phone to help escape or pursue left me feeling extremely powerful. Who thought such a tiny concept could leave such a huge impact to both the player and the in-game world. Now, an in-game progression wheel does limit your hacking abilities until you can level up to gain skill points which can then be allocated into a skill tree but a really neat thing that Ubisoft did is that once you beat a couple of missions in the game, you unlock ALL the skills. This means it doesn't require you to become a certain level or beat a certain side task. All you need are the appropriate skill points and you can choose what your strengths are. The system isn't extremely in depth but you can tell effort was put in to try and balance it.
Another system that was brought into Watch Dogs open-world game was a morality system. Stopping petty crimes and saving peoples lives grants you vigilante status, meaning citizens will often come to you and take pictures. While killing citizens and causing chaos leaves you to be a villain, causing citizens to be fearful and more likely to call the police on you.

This game is definitely huge, Ubisoft was right about that. The sad thing is, the game looks heavily downgraded from their E3 demos which seems to follow their recent bait and switch advertising techniques. Along with a PC port that causes fps lag even on high end computers and a bunch of bugs/crashed even after first day patches really makes it hard to recommend the PC version. I haven't played the console versions of the game and after having my save file become corrupted due to a known game breaking bug, I don't think I want to go out and purchase a console copy, no matter the hours of entertainment the game gave me.

One thing I never got to try was the unique multiplayer, pitting hackers versus hackers sounds amazing. Definitely something I might watch online but playing through the game again to get my save back isn't appealing enough.

I would rate Watch Dogs for the PC a 7/10, boosting it up to an 8 if the bugs/optimization are fixed.

Disclosures: This game was obtained via publisher and reviewed on the PC. Approximately 6 hours of play was devoted to single-player modes and 0 hours of play to multiplayer modes.

Parents: According to the ESRB, this game contains: Blood, Intense Violence, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, Use of Drugs and Alcohol. There's no question that this game is absolutely intended for adults and no children should play or watch. Some scenes reference sexual and violent manners, even walking down the street with the profiler on can reveals possible offensive material. I still would consider the GTA series to be far worse.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing: Subtitles are available for all of the dialogue—and there's a lot. Multiple languages are supported as well. I have not personally tested them however so things may very from language to language.

People haven't dreamed about a game like this. This is beyond the doubt, the most intense world-open game I have ever played.

It struggles when you're driving to bigger city points, the frame-rate drops when you're using low settings, although I have no problems when using high textures. I have no problems with the story-line, it's takes a while to complete but yet fine.

I did after a while, and then it wasn't quite as bad... but there are several things about the game that are lacking, and yet I still found it very entertaining... I probably wouldn't recommend buying it for $60, but if you see it on sale for $30, I personally think it's worth it

Cons: the driving could have been much better, the game is a resource hog (with 12GB of RAM, I had to reenable swapping on my system in order to be able to play it), police chases can be extremely frustrating (especially with the helicopters with snipers)

Pros: I personally enjoyed the story and although the missions were repetitive, I still enjoyed playing through them, the game looks and feels great if you've got the hardware to run it, the side challenges can be fun and challenging, and they do offer some benefit to the game play... this includes the various investigations, etc...

After a tragic accident kills his niece Lena, Aiden seeks to bring his own kind of justice to the people responsible, all while protecting his sister Nicole and nephew Jackson. Honestly, the story here is your generic revenge story mixed in with a "Taken" style kidnapping plot. You'll be able to predict this story and there's no plot twist here. Another problem is that it takes awhile until the story begins to pick up some steam. The entire 1st act along with half of the 2nd act felt boring and actually made me stop playing the game for a few days because I'd rather play something else instead. The 3rd act is where things finally got interesting but the ending also felt like a disappointing conclusion to the 30 plus hour plot. Aiden is also a pretty boring hero. He isn't as boring as a mute protagonist but he has no interesting personality traits and he often does a poor man's Christian Bale Batman impression. The side characters are WAY more interesting than Aiden since they have more personality in them, more charm, and some of them have a good backstory. On a side note, why didn't they resolve Poppy's side plot well enough? It felt so unfinished to have an interesting character for only 1 mission then to just throw it away like that. Overall, the story here is bad and Aiden is a boring hero. If the sequel is being planned, give us a more interesting hero Ubisoft. 4/10

    Gameplay:
Watch Dogs's main selling point is in the hacking, and they did a solid job on delivering on that promise. With the help of some skills, you'll be able to hack objects like cameras, blockers, spikes, traffic lights, steam pipes, generators, and more. As said, you can unlock skill points via leveling up, or completing gang hideouts which are infiltrating a gang hideout and incapacitating the leader(s). You can use these skill points to unlock skills for hacking, driving, combat, and crafting. The crafting in this game contains a good variety of new gadgets to mess around with. You can craft devices that cause blackouts, jam nearby electronics (essential if you want to avoid the cops), IED mines, grenades, and pills that increase your focus. Focus is a feature that lets you slow down time while you're shooting, driving, or on foot. Think of Michael and Franklin's abilities from GTA 5 mixed together. Like with other Ubisoft games, there are a ton of activities to do outside the main story. You can hack cTOS towers to reveal items on your minimap (sound familiar?), take over cTOS control centers (also sound familiar?), solve crimes, complete gang hideouts and criminal convoys, hack into surveillance equipment and spy on other NPCs for a short period of time, and more. I also liked the stealth aspect of this game because instead of sneaking into a base and highlighting enemies as you infiltrate like in Far Cry 3, you can use cameras to highlight enemies, trigger noises and explosives, and generally mess around with the A.I. (go "Paranormal Activity" on them by making electrical objects go off around them). I also really liked the shooting in this game as it feels tactical compared to other open world games. Instead of going in guns blazing and shooting everything, you actually have to go behind cover and use your environment to your advantage. The driving in this game though sucks mostly due to how poor the handling is. I don't mind the arcade-y physics as it helps whenever your car crashes and trust me, you'll probably crash your car about a dozen times or more. I also DESPISED the cops in this game. They're way too accurate with their shots (I don't care about realism if it ruins the fun of a game), the helicopters are hard to get rid of unless you have the hacking skill or a grenade launcher, and since you can't shoot your gun while in a car, it can be a chore just to get away from them. There's also a lack of customization in this game as there's no gun or car customization, and the clothing options suck. There's also a reputation system if you're interested. The gameplay's fine, but its' missing some items. 7/10

    Graphics:
On max settings, the game looks good, but they seriously downgraded it from E3. I'd suggest getting "The Worse" mod if you want more from your game. 7/10

    Sound:
The sounds here are well made with the ACR gun sound probably being one of my favorite gun sounds in video games ever. The soundtrack is ok but it isn't as good as Saints Row or GTA. 7/10

    Multiplayer:
There are 6 available modes here: Online hacking and tailing which are my favorites as they create good tension for both sides, Decryption which I wasn't a fan of, races, free mode, and mobile challenges which are fine alternatives. At least the multiplayer here isn't tacked on BS for once. 7/10

Verdict: The game suffers from having too much hype and having an awful launch because of uPlay. I'd say lower your expectations and get this when the price drops.

    Rating: 7/10

Sound & Music: OK, not special.
Gameplay: Perfectly functional for me. Hardly groundbreaking, but OK.
Car controls: Not good, but doable, especially with a controller. Hope they'll patch this up.

I hesitated buying Watch Dogs after the onslaught of complaints, but now that have it, I do not regret the purchase (for PC). AMD apparently has problems, so I can understand the frustrations there, and I hope this will be sorted out. My setup works without a hitch. Also, the PC version looks better than PS4, I've seen both. This is a decent game - not a great one, but certainly not the disaster some people make it to be!

The graphics ain't great- I'm running it with high textures followed by all grahics setting at ultra with HBAO+ & SMAA but still the graphics ain't great.
Nothing like the graphics shown in E3 shows of the previous years.
Multiplayer is awesome in how many games have you been to other people's game and beat the **** out of them(This new concept is definitely a cult concept).
The overall I could give for this game is a 7, because you'll not get bored or frustrated by it's repititive missions except for the plumbing hacking part.

You should play this game to blackout the whole city. The best thing in the game is creating that 15 second blackout. All streets, buildings, traffic lights i mean everything goes in to a darkness and the silence later on. It worths trying.

Other than that, it worths playing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Watch dogs is a truly unique game which provides a great open world to explore and a hacking experience which is uncommon in modern day games. However, it does have many bugs in its game play such as lag and stutter issues. The people who are complaining about their unbearable game play and giving it 0/10 for just that reason should try to be more patient because Ubisoft are working on updates to fix those issues. The combat system in watch dogs is well refined with the addition of focus. Also, the driving in the game feels very realistic unlike GTA V where the driving was ridiculously sensitive (im not going against GTA V in anyway but Watch dogs driving mechanics feel right). Car chases in the game are always entertaining because of the many ways you can take down cars from ramming to road spikes to disable wheels. However, after about halfway through the storyline hacking becomes quite repetitive and the storyline is not very engaging to the player which did not live up to the expectations during the long wait for this game. Overall Watch dogs is a great game which provides great 3rd person action but could use a few more tweaks to make game play more enjoyable. Which is why i give a 7/10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Facts about Watch_Dogs:
-Some idiot cracked it and released a bunch of fake copies of the game a week before the official release
-In the real edition the game plays smoothly with very few bugs (which is more than can be said about other games Thief, BF4, etc.)
-The actual system runs really nice if you play it the way its meant to be played (instead of running in guns blazing try stealth for once)
-Comparing it to GTA 5 is completely out of question, GTA is like "pew" "pew" oh yeah BOOOOM while Watch_Dogs has an actual story
-If you have played the game more than two seconds you would realize that Aiden's major flaw is being over protective of his family and if you have played even up to the second act you would find that Damien has kidnapped Aiden's sister giving a realism to what he is doing and why. You even see it in the objectives, if its a mission where you are protecting a family member you have to kill everyone while in others you are free to play how ever you like.
-The alleged "unintelligent AI" actually follow patrols and act like normal people, if a man were to park on the side of the road coming from a speed of 120 miles per hour, you would be scared, you are just mad because you keep crashing into people and lowering your rep (How would you feel if a "vigilante" was killing random civillians?).
-The city they made is huge with tons to do, don't want to go on with the story, try online playing, fed up with that, stop crime, not enough well then infiltrate an optional high security ctOS center, your tired of that to? try a fixer contract and go on a high speed car chase using your intelligence and hacking skills to take down vehicles, bored with all of that then you can covertly walk down the streets picking up bits of info and finding even more missions of all kinds or just generally find out personal information about people
-oh no static shadows, this is a tragedy God no, why didn't they take the time to make the shadows move with the 30 minute days? It should have been their priority instead of making the rain look amazing, or making all the cut scenes for every one of the 100 (relative) outfits you can where, or perhaps optimizing the game, or making dozens of songs specifically for the game, or copying almost every detail of Chicago (seriously, I found my brother's apartment building), come on people, complaining about static shadows.

All in all the game is solid and I have not run into any of these major, game breaking bugs all of everyone speaks of. Honestly if you only got 5 hours of game play out of this game, you cannot truly call yourself a gamer, no true gamer blazes straight through the story you always stop for at least a few side missions. Oh and if you expected to really learn how to hack then you are a complete idiot, even when the game was first announced I knew that it was going to be the strategy element it is (once again, try playing stealth). If a game is not what you expected that doesn't make it bad, I was pleasantly surprised with the game and found it to be amazing. Just the concept, the story, the action, the detail (every person has their own personality, and every alleyway has some sort of secret), and scenery just made the game completely worth it.

Ubisoft's flagship title has a really, really repulsive protagonist. The entire storyline feels like it was cranked out of a automated story generator. Nothing could have realistically lived up to the immense level of hype that Ubisoft stirred up for this game, and while I value strong narratives and envelope-pushing technological advancements, I place just as much importance in the ability to enjoy the gameplay that's being offered to me. Watch Dogs is one of the more exciting sandbox games of the last few years, and if this is to become Ubisoft's next big franchise, I'm excited to see where they take it.
