I dont care if Ubisoft makes the most amazing game in the word if I cant even play it after paying my hard earned money for it.

    This is what happened:
DAY 1 - Cant Login or after login the PLAY button does not work.
DAY 3 - Still cant play without waiting A LOT, decide to get the Crack and play the game at least.
DAY 6 - After 3 days of smooth gameplay I decide that Uplay issues may be fixed, so I reinstall a clean copy from the disc; then; UPLAY for some inexplicable reason DELETES ALL MY SAVEGAMES (Checked everywhere); I decide to play from the Start; 10 min into the game, there is a power failure and when I boot the system back up, UPLAY insists that WATCH_DOGS is NOT INSTALLED AT ALL!! When all the files are on my drive and are not corrupt at all!!! Now I should spent another 45 min reinstalling the game after playing for just 10 min??????????

I AM NEVER BUYING A UBISOFT GAME AGAIN; I will pirate them if I feel like playing them; the same thing happened to me in FAR CRY 3 and BLACK FLAG; I ended up playing pirated versions of both of them despite buying the game.

WHY SHOULD I BUY UBISOFT GAMES IF I HAVE TO PLAY THE PIRATED VERSION ANYWAY????

The focus is WAY too much on driving for a game that doesn't have great driving mechanics.

On the plus side, some multi player modes have been really fun, unfortunately they are quite buggy and pairing is patchy, sometimes can't get an online session for ages. overall, if if it wasn't so hyped i probably wouldn't be so disappointed, I have been playing it and enjoying it, all the while thinking how much better i thought it would be ;) If you pick it up in a bargain bin a year from now, you'll probably love it.

I think with this game it's just a matter of how high you set your expectations, if you expect it to the next- gen game that it was hyped to be then you'll most likely be disapointing. However without those expectations I think this game was quite enjoyable.

I can only assume, the metacritic score is so low because the people enjoying the game are too busy playing. Giving it a zero would be comparable to Big Riggs or Desert Bus. That seems ridiculous, because it is ridiculous.

The singleplayer is not bad but it isn't very good either. If you can get the game for around 30 that is fair.
The DLCs btw. are mostly all ripoffs.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is disappointing. It has the potential to be much larger than the sum of its parts but the overall execution of the game is clunky and uninspired, it feels like each individual component of the game is unpolished and the optimisation of the game on this platform (PC) is woeful at this time.

The story is pretty weak, the ending is a quick time event, the driving feels like you're driving through treacle, the shooting and moving feels like Aiden wants to hump the environment all of the time and the hacking is simplistic with no real depth.

Overall the game has very little replay value although there is plenty of things to do during your first play through - side missions consisting of the same routine over and over again, gang hideouts consisting of the same thing over and over again, in fact... no, there's not really that much unique content to go through, just lots of the same thing over and over again.

This game wishes it was Grand Theft Auto when it grows up, GTA with quick time events for hacking. Unfortunately, it will never be Grand Theft Auto when it grows up, because by the time it gets there Grand Theft Auto will have moved on to its next big thing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Facts about Watch_Dogs:
-Some idiot cracked it and released a bunch of fake copies of the game a week before the official release
-In the real edition the game plays smoothly with very few bugs (which is more than can be said about other games Thief, BF4, etc.)
-The actual system runs really nice if you play it the way its meant to be played (instead of running in guns blazing try stealth for once)
-Comparing it to GTA 5 is completely out of question, GTA is like "pew" "pew" oh yeah BOOOOM while Watch_Dogs has an actual story
-If you have played the game more than two seconds you would realize that Aiden's major flaw is being over protective of his family and if you have played even up to the second act you would find that Damien has kidnapped Aiden's sister giving a realism to what he is doing and why. You even see it in the objectives, if its a mission where you are protecting a family member you have to kill everyone while in others you are free to play how ever you like.
-The alleged "unintelligent AI" actually follow patrols and act like normal people, if a man were to park on the side of the road coming from a speed of 120 miles per hour, you would be scared, you are just mad because you keep crashing into people and lowering your rep (How would you feel if a "vigilante" was killing random civillians?).
-The city they made is huge with tons to do, don't want to go on with the story, try online playing, fed up with that, stop crime, not enough well then infiltrate an optional high security ctOS center, your tired of that to? try a fixer contract and go on a high speed car chase using your intelligence and hacking skills to take down vehicles, bored with all of that then you can covertly walk down the streets picking up bits of info and finding even more missions of all kinds or just generally find out personal information about people
-oh no static shadows, this is a tragedy God no, why didn't they take the time to make the shadows move with the 30 minute days? It should have been their priority instead of making the rain look amazing, or making all the cut scenes for every one of the 100 (relative) outfits you can where, or perhaps optimizing the game, or making dozens of songs specifically for the game, or copying almost every detail of Chicago (seriously, I found my brother's apartment building), come on people, complaining about static shadows.

All in all the game is solid and I have not run into any of these major, game breaking bugs all of everyone speaks of. Honestly if you only got 5 hours of game play out of this game, you cannot truly call yourself a gamer, no true gamer blazes straight through the story you always stop for at least a few side missions. Oh and if you expected to really learn how to hack then you are a complete idiot, even when the game was first announced I knew that it was going to be the strategy element it is (once again, try playing stealth). If a game is not what you expected that doesn't make it bad, I was pleasantly surprised with the game and found it to be amazing. Just the concept, the story, the action, the detail (every person has their own personality, and every alleyway has some sort of secret), and scenery just made the game completely worth it.

It isn't pleasant to play with mouse/keyboard, but it also manages to forget my controller settings each time it crashes. 2/5 times it will crash immediately on launch. UPlay occasionally errors and kicks me out too.

Game-breaking visual glitches abound (even with latest NVIDIA drivers); entire screen flickers, freezes for seconds on end, textures blink in and out, and sometimes entire objects are simply missing.

Oh yeah, the gameplay... the first mission seemed cool, the simple hacking mechanic is novel and fun to use, character models and animations look good.

Vehicle mechanics are lacking - you won't feel connected to road, even when using a gamepad. Handling is just all over the place.

I'm less than an hour in, with 6 hours of wasted time trying to get it stable and playable, so I'm done with Watch Dogs for now. I'll revisit once (or if) it's patched and playable.

It's a very, very good game, let's just get that out of the way first. Of course, reading metacritic, you wouldn't believe that to be the case, given that the score is currently lower than dross such as Orion Dino Horde...

It's a very, very good game, let's just get that out of the way first. Of course, reading metacritic, you wouldn't believe that to be the case, given that the score is currently lower than dross such as Orion Dino Horde...

The reason for the lower meta score isn't because the game is bad in any way, it's more to do with the fact Ubisoft sold a lie with their incredibly over-optimised E3 video and thus expectations were through the roof. So, when those expectations are then not met, either graphically or in terms of gameplay, the Metacritic fume meter goes off the scale and you see the overreaction.

Graphically, on the PC on ultra, the game is one of the best looking games ever made, but it isn't what E3 painted it as, not by a long shot. This is on a par with GTA5, with an Assassin's Creed sheen over the top of it. Gunplay is fine, as is driving, despite the OTT criticism of it because it's a different, slightly more arcadey style to GTA, but it's simply different, not worse.

Hacking involves one button opportunist situations rather than anything detailed. However, it fits into the game, and when you're involved in cat and mouse chases and looking for terrain hacking opportunities the game comes to life. I'm not quite sure what people wanted here... Did you want to stop the game and put in code to hack the game? How would that work in a car chase?

The city is well realised and gives a fair degree of things to do, such as city spots and side games. However, compared to the all-encompassing freedom of other open world games, Watch Dogs often feels a bit cramped. Immersion is lost when you don't see reflections in windows, or when you cause chaos and no police are called, yet when you rob a car they're on you like a rash.

The plot is OK if not stellar. Characters are a bit hit and miss. Side quests provide a welcome distraction to the main missions, but don't have the diversity to really draw you in.

It is a game where you wouldn't regret buying it if it had came out of the blue and was just released. However, after an age of hype and expectation, it falls short. I can highly recommend picking it up, but don't expect the next-gen game changer that many thought it would be.

    -

    The Pros:
+ Great, Seamless movement/parkour system (worth at least 1 point out of 10)
    + Awesome Graphics
+ Good Story Missions (even if the story is more than a little shallow)
+ Gigantic, detailed city (from every warehouse to every park to every alley, the city is beautifully crafted)
+ Vigilante System - You build up a reputation, the worse it is (killing cops, hurting civillians) the more likely it is that citizens will report you to the police; same goes for vice versa
+ Great audio (especially for weapons)
+ Lots of minigames (Chess, Shell game, Drinking game - although it feels a bit as if its trying to live up to GTA V's standards)
+ Feel like batman without the cape (even sound like him)
+ Immersive environment - I love learning the backstory of almost every citizen that passes by
+ Side missions are alright, if a little rushed (such as the missing persons branch where you have to track down a serial killer, the ending is somewhat anti-climatic to be honest)
+ Stealth is great in this game (especially for gang hideouts) IF you try hard enough, if you're lazy and rush in without thinking you'll just spoil it for yourself
+ Realistic firefights, you take a lot of damage from bullets etc and the game actually feels challenging as opposed to other open world games
+ Great characters, but not paticularly Aiden (Jordi Chin and Bedbug are the best)
+ Innovative Multiplayer - Kind of like the matrix. A player blends into your game, you don't even know they're there then POOF! they're gone. Along with some of your money. And XP.

    The Grays:
x Cover system - Not the best system ever, but certainly not game-breaking
x Hacking is very useful at times but somewhat feels like a gimmick to be brutally honest and is not always viable in gunfights or car chases. Fun to play with though... for a while
x Progression System - Had a lot more potential, but was let down by not enough unlockable perks in the hacking and combat tree
x Hacking minigames - More potential, quite boring to be honest and only give you a tiny litlte kick when you get them right after hacking a billion cameras and unlocking hundreds of doors only to get a few minigames as a bonus for unlocking a ctOS station.

    The Cons:
    - The gunplay is barely above average and feels somewhat clunky
    - The story is uninspired - I was expecting a deep, rich story which roped me in, just to find that I was let-down with a hard to understand (at some points) and unevenly paced story branch
    - THE PERFORMANCE!!!!!!!!! I can run the game on Ultra with about 36-50 fps on average but there is TERRIBLE stuttering which usually comes when I'm skyping, the game hasn't been patched since day one, this is the REAL game breaker for me and so many others. Fix your damn game Ubisoft
    - UPlay. This uninspired piece of crap almost ruins the whole experience.

Verdict: Without the performance issues and UPlay, this would get a 9/10 but I'm going to drop it down to 8/10. The game deserves a chance which most will not give it - hating on it simply "because". The game is great, go get it *IF YOU CAN RUN IT* or wait until the price drops/the game is patched.

My desktop is an i7 @4GHz, 16GB RAM, 780Ti GTX. On Ultra settings with every possible extra maxed out, I'm getting about 50-70 FPS. It varies, however when you drive fast it can drop to like 45 which creates quite a stutter. I used MSi afterburner (Rivatuner) to lock the framerate to 45 fPS and it plays completely smooth all the time with no stutter. 45 FPS is more than enough. The next gen consoles run it at 30 FPS.
My laptop is a i7@3.80GHz, 880M GTX and it runs it on the same settings (apart from it didn't have the highest AA options). I fix the framerate to 33 FPS to stop any stuttering and it plays silky smooth even at 33 FPS.

So what does this game DO others didn't? well it would be easier say what the other DID that this didn't.

Well, this is a new game so its obviously going to look better, but only by a few degrees, I would actually say Sleeping Dogs in some way looks better.

Things to do, well the main point of Watch Dogs is your phones ability to hack stuff.

Like phone junctions boxes outside peoples houses, for which you then can spy on them earning some XP while watching some cute cut scene, this was relatively amusing, but very basic. Some had a little puzzle to complete, similar to them pipe puzzle where you need to get water from one end to the other by moving the pipes, but this was electricity.

    you can also hack -

CCTV camera: This makes sense, these are used to move around inside buildings and getting up to higher places.

Traffic lights: This is somewhat amusing the first few times watching cars smash into each other- Dumb idiots. OK this makes sense, and its used to stop people chasing you, police and bad guys.

Bollards: Which comes up blocking roads, also to stop cars, this also made sense.

Drains:? or Gas Mains or 15 Pounds of C4 buried in the road? Not too sure about this one, its nice to trigger, but makes no sense seemed like a lacking in things to hack imo.

    Bridges, phuck it why not.

Forklifts & Cheery Pickers? what? just getting stupid now desperately adding things to hack, Oh and apparently you can only make them hackable to move up and down?

And some explosive floor bombs, wall circuit boxes and & other pointless stuff.

ALSO, you can hack the pointless & moronic citizens of Chicago, listen in to their text and phone conversions, which is amusing but after 200+ its gets pretty dull, furthermore you can steal their bank account details and take some of their saving, but after reaching about 300k you can pretty much buy everything that can be bought, so money is useless, this is just a gimmick and a game filler, I can see people doing this for ages like it did, then release it was all for nothing.

The Campaign or main story is OK nothing great, and the protagonist is a total arse. Most unlikable character in any genre, be it movie, books or games, his reasons & action are so poorly written, it feels so cobbled and rushed together.

Game play: Comparing this to the other open world GTA style games, this is by far the worst, the City is open straight away which leads little to no discovery, buildings and just closed lifeless boxes, apart from the odd news stand, café or bar where you can buy a drink/snacks that fills your bullet time thing, which I never used.

The main Campaign is 90% chase that guy or follow this guy, and escape the bad guys or police, these type of mission were the worst parts of the other games, I hated them and GTA only used them to add filler to the their games, and Sleeping Dogs never used them at all. But Watch Dogs is mainly these, and these are awful- Reason! the driving is nasty.
Well part from those terrible missions, the other few consist of get in/out without being seen, tad like Metal Gear solid style, they see you and bam, start again time, these mission were even worst then the driving ones, and finally a very basic but and probably the best part of the game, cover shooting which worked fine, but pretty easy if you took your time.

Side mission, were basic and dull, the gang hide out is basically a cover shooter, where you attack some goons then hit their boss with a stick, you kill him its start again time, but you can kill his goons np, this one one was ok the other 2 pretty Crappy..

NOW THE WORST PART OF THE GAME: Wow the driving, omg, For example the boats actually handle better than the cars, absolutely awful & just embarrassingly bad.

So Watch Dogs? An awful, cheap and hurried game, that actually takes the genre back to 2004. From the lies about the visuals in the 2012 E3 Trailer and the nasty PC optimization, and the fact that the last 2 bosses are basically QTE, or the fact that you character can't do anything in the city, apart from bump into the citizen steal pointless money, or play dull chess. or even the terribly coded Hulk mentality of the police-POLICE SMASH -. wow they literally have one line of code those guys.

But that fact they have Released DLC for $5 without fixing Uplay or stabilizing the game for people that have paid upwards of $70

Before you read this review; mind that many of the negative reviews are based upon launch issues as well as individuals who are either mad that their PC can't handle the game or don't know how to update their drivers.

This review will be solely based upon the game itself, not Uplay, not launch issues, not anything at all which is directly game related. But I would like to mention that the optimization is fine! People just need to update their drivers. I run the game at 1080p, high/ultra settings with a setup featuring a GTX 670 and an i5-3570, with an average FPS of 45.

The game itself looks great! It might be one of the best looking sandbox games at the moment. The reflections of puddles and the water is spot on. Textures look great, I have not yet found spots which are muddy or undetailed. Shadows are not static as some people mention, enabling anti-aliasing will help upon it and cranking the shadow details up a little. Furthermore, it's just amazing seeing how objects are following the wind, the trees, trash, paper, leaves etc.

The AI is not dumb, it's actually one of the most realistic and best responding AI I've tried in a long time. When stealing cars people call the police, if you draw your gun they run in fear and call the police, if you're spotted during someone doing a crime they stop it of fear. Shooting officers in the knee during a chase will take them out without killing them, why did it take so long for something so simple yet useful as this?

Gameplay works great. There are many mini-games, many crimes and many other forms of smaller side-quests to do, which are great for the most part, yet they will become repetitive in the long run. The main story itself is long and entertaining, without spoiling anything I can tell it's different and a fresh breath in the gaming industry. The hacking is easily done by a click of a button and I like that. The difficulty of the hacking is to do it at the right moment, so you can either get past guards, escape the police or take someone out. The driving works, yet is nothing fantastic. When you start to drive the car accelerates at an unrealistic pace, it takes a while to get used to, but isn't game breaking.
You can also see the game is made by Ubisoft, a little parkour borrowed from Assassins Creed is well executed and brings life into chases on foot.

The game is worth it's price. I haven't met any issues yet and I recommend to anyone who enjoys sandbox games! Now go hack a dude who often buys online porn!

OK, so lets begin, we start the game with some guy stealing from everyday people, then move on to a scene where you learn his daughter got killed. Firstly, he deserved it, and his entire rampage is unjustified. besides a poor story, the characters are all poorly designed, the physics makes me want to cut myself, everything is the same, you are not a hacker, you simply have an app, thisOK, so lets begin, we start the game with some guy stealing from everyday people, then move on to a scene where you learn his daughter got killed. Caveat: My PC runs Watch_Dogs without crashing, and it runs it at good graphics with a good frame-rate, so this is not a "technical review".

In other words, the low score is because the game brings nothing new to the table. Walk/run/drive around, shoot people, do random/disconnected side-missions, press a button whenever you're in the vicinity of a bridge, door, phone, grate, vent, sign

Walk/run/drive around, shoot people, do random/disconnected side-missions, press a button whenever you're in the vicinity of a bridge, door, phone, grate, vent, sign (etc) to "hack" it. Oh, and the vehicle physics is horrible and makes you feel like Bambi on ice.

It feels like someone tried to make a game, but couldn't quite decide if they wanted it to be GTA, Infamous or Assassins Creed. Then they realized they needed to make it unique, so they added "hacking". True, not all hacking is as simple as clicking a single button. For some of it you actually have to play a mini-game where you, by clicking a single button, rotate breaker switches to lead electricity from A to B.

Gimmicky, boring, and after haven given it three serious attempts (which have taken me about 5-6 hours into the game) I find absolutely nothing that makes me want to boot it up again.

    Fast Facts.
    - Terrible graphics.
    - History, level of Hollywood blockbusters.
    - Pathetic gameplay.
    - Good soundtracks.
    - Permanent friezes.
    - Terrible optimization.
I do not even want to write about this misery, great review.

Thanks to awful games like this we can appreciate how great is the work of other software houses, like Rockstar Games.
    - No longevity (boooring gameplay).
    - AI is absolutely terrible.
    - Physics is joke.
    - Full of bugs.
    - Short gameplay.
    The list can go on.
You should really don't spend money on this game.

Great game, gets fun when u get your way around the hacking system and got some enjoyable puzzles, not too hard, but not too handhelding either. The graphics are defidently the best i seen in a game like this so far, some people say its not that good but think of one other game like this that isnt a mod, that looks this good.

it also runs well, didnt have one crash. What people are saying that they perform bad on amd gpus is mumbo jumbo , cos if you check on official benchmark, it does not say so, so its apperently something they are doing wrong.

i think its at least an 8 out of 10, but i chosen to give it a 10 out of 10 cos of the idiot herd reviews here.

Worst driving mechanics in the world. This game is boring from the beginning. Nothing innovative about hacking...just press Q. It's basically GTA without the ghetto and less of an open world. Boring. Graphics are scaled waaaaay down in comparison to the E3 preview. It's just an overall ugly experience.

Oh watch Dogs, I want to love you, but I can only like you. First let me say that I'm "trying" to play this game on an AMD HD 7870. Ultra settings will KO my computer to the tune of a Blue screen of death(which I didn't even know could still happen as it's been years since I had one, like 4 iterations of windows ago) High settings will get me about 20-25 FPS, while playing on medium willOh watch Dogs, I want to love you, but I can only like you. Now to the actual game, it's good and fun, it's kind of a mixture of GTA, Splinter cell, with a little Assassin's creed on top. It has a good story, although it can be predictable. I like the way you can attack missions head on or use stealth and cameras to neutralize the enemies. I do recommend this game and from what I've read if you run Nvidia, you'll likely have a smoother experience with it, but for us AMD users it's not really optimized very well yet and might be worth waiting on if you haven't picked it up yet. New open-world IP with an underground hacking setting and a revenge plot. The writing could be so much better, some characters are underdeveloped, some are introduced only to get pushed aside, main villain lacks any real motivation.
Gameplay mechanics are pretty straightforward - complete main story missions to move the story forward, like in GTA, however this game lacks in side

The game doesn't look as pretty as the 2012 E3 demo but it's still gorgeous, certainly one of the best looking open-world games.

I am sorry but the game sucks, a lot. Bad AI. Boring and dead world, not breathing and alive as they made it out to be. Graphics could be better and over all the game has not lived up to the hype. Driving is horrendous. Terrible game. Very bad optimisation for PC. Entire game is scripted as hell, plot is so bad that I cannot believe that someone really made this. Everything is about hunting for mcguffins from the beginning to the end. A lot of bugs and Watch Dogs is sooo booooring.

Do not buy. You will waste your money for this piece of crap. This game should never be released in this state!

Самая провальная игра года. Физики нет, оптимизации нет, завышенная цена, графика 2010 года. При убогой графике игра супер-гипер-мега требовательная к железу. Юбисофт, вам не стыдно? Ubisoft's flagship title has a really, really repulsive protagonist. The entire storyline feels like it was cranked out of a automated story generator. On the positive side, Watch Dogs looks really good on PC, especially after modding the graphics to match the visual splendor of the early E3 demos. [Aug 2014]

There are some strong gameplay elements in Watch Dogs, but overall it's merely an adequate open world game. [July 2014, p.46]

Nothing could have realistically lived up to the immense level of hype that Ubisoft stirred up for this game, and while I value strong narratives and envelope-pushing technological advancements, I place just as much importance in the ability to enjoy the gameplay that's being offered to me. Watch Dogs is one of the more exciting sandbox games of the last few years, and if this is to become Ubisoft's next big franchise, I'm excited to see where they take it.
