    Greedier monetization, new bugs, and OP premium vehicles every patch have made War Thunder increasingly unplayable. While the core of the game is awesome, it is corrupted by an awful economy system, battle rating compression, and unbalanced matchmaking. Therefore, I cannot recommend anyone to play this game. The recent update on May 2023, has further highlighted the fundamentally flawedGreedier monetization, new bugs, and OP premium vehicles every patch have made War Thunder increasingly unplayable. While the core of the game is awesome, it is corrupted by an awful economy system, battle rating compression, and unbalanced matchmaking. Therefore, I cannot recommend anyone to play this game. The recent update on May 2023, has further highlighted the fundamentally flawed economy in this game. I strongly advise against playing unless you can afford pay-to-progress systems. Progressing to modern content, such as the F-16, often requires premium time and sometimes premium vehicles, but even having both won't guarantee a fair experience. Despite having 200 more days of premium account and owning 9 rank VI and VII premium vehicles, I am leaving the game. The developers are hardworking and cool, and I have no issues with them, but the management is really bad. Their decisions, like removing Steam from their site and rewarding positive reviews, have been questionable. If they continue to ignore their fanbase's criticisms and fail to change their ways, they risk losing their fanbase, just like what happened with Overwatch 2 and Battlefield 2042.… Expand

    The game is great, outside the grind and the economy and the contempt the developer is showing to the players, to the point where high tiers are F2P in name only.

    Progressing and repairing vehicles requires Silver Lions (SL). Gaijin has progressively increased the cost of SL over time along with adding more vehicle requirements to progress.     I have played this game since 2013. I have thoroughly enjoyed it, and this game has been with me through some hard times in my life. Every time I see old footage I nearly choke up and cry, because it means that much to me... but it feels like I'm looking at a dying relative who's forgetting who they were.

    The game I played had passion and joy in its design, it had the apparent intention to expand further to make the game feel more... I would say immersive but that's not the right word, but it's the best one I have for now. The game has turned into a schlop of greed and cheap additions. The developers no longer care for their original vision of the game, and they consistently go back and change their goals, or promises. They have made the in-game economy something that was roughly balanced, to a thing where if you are not spending money, you cannot progress at all.

    I will reiterate that seeing this game now feels exactly like looking at a dying relative, a relative who is dying not because of age, but of greed. It's painful, and it hurts. This game will never return to the days where you could feel immersed in it, it will never return to the days wherein it felt like things would change for the better, it will never return to the days that it had a soul.

    I'm a premium player, because this is the only way not to suffer.

    game itself is a brilliant piece of game-design, the graphics, vehicle models, penetration system, etc. but it all got ruined because of Gaijin`s greediness. they really do not care about players, only thing they care about is lining their own pockets. without buying premium vehicles and premium time, at rank 3-4 you`ll hit a MASSIVE wall, when you will barely make enough money to covergame itself is a brilliant piece of game-design, the graphics, vehicle models, penetration system, etc. but it all got ruined because of Gaijin`s greediness. they really do not care about players, only thing they care about is lining their own pockets. without buying premium vehicles and premium time, at rank 3-4 you`ll hit a MASSIVE wall, when you will barely make enough money to cover repair costs. but economy along with monstrous repair costs are not the only problems, but vehicle balance, battle rating system, map design, tone-deafness of developers, and their unwillingness to do anything about it. but of course, they are interested in adding two or three new premium vehicles every update. please, who sees that review and deciding whether he wants to start playing war thunder, do not do it. go play something else.

    War Thunder has always been a very grindy f2p game but it made up for that with an excellent selection of aircraft and the best mouse controlled flight mechanics I've ever played. Unfortunately the developer has been making the grind worse for years on end while also making extremely poor balance decisions. With that said, the developers insist on implementing predatory systems that makes the game borderline unplayable unless you consistently buy premium vehicles and a premium subscription.     Grind is unbearable, i have 1200 hours (F2P player) and 0 MBTs (except squadron and 1 premium vehicle i bought lately). And a premium vehicle will cost you 60$, and you need premium account as well.

    I have been playing this game since the very beginning. It is by far my most played game of all time and I have spent thousands of euros on it over the years. It is one of my all time favorite games. However, I'm afraid I can no longer recommend this game to anyone unless Gaijin makes some significant changes to their predatory monetization, game balance and community engagement.

    The company has become progressively more greedy over the years, purposedly releasing OP premiums and finally nerfing them after sales die down. They have steadily reduced research and silver lion gains, making progress unbearably slow, even if you perform well, have a premium account and use premium vehicles. With the ever-increasing size of the tech trees, this becomes an endless grind that is designed to frustrate you into spending more and more money to get ahead and enjoy the core gameplay (which has also become incredibly stale after 10 years of capturing circles on the map or just TDM across planes, tanks and ships). Their engagement with the players has also been downright condescending, with dubious polls on fake fixes, constant gaslighting and ignoring detailed, well-researched bug reports because it doesn't fit their agenda, not to mention the ever-present does of Russian bias, especially in the higher tiers, which is simply undeniable at this point.

    There is nothing else out there quite like War Thunder, but these and many other issues have pushed me away from this unique game. I would NOT recommend anyone start playing this game now. It will frustrate you into wasting your money on premiums that will be nerfed in a few months or not be meta anymore. It will make you less of a teamplayer by incentivizing selfishness because of the grind with mechanics that disincentivize teamwork. It will give you serious FOMO with OP or unique vehicles that have be grinded in events that require more time than full-time jobs. It will frustrate you into spending money on basic modifications that allow you to be at least on par with your enemies (stock grind - jets without countermeasures, ineffective ammo on high-tier tanks, no fire extinguisher or parts on tanks and ships, etc). More and more this game is becoming pay-to-play and pay-to-win.

    This game will grab your attention using your fascination with military vehicles and squeeze every last penny and sanity you have so you can play with them. STAY AWAY UNTIL THEY MAKE SOME SERIOUS CHANGES!    … Expand

The income of game currencies is so small, that buying a premium account plus premium vehicles is mandatory, and even then you can make a loss after being in the winning team. As a less than average player I have no chance against veterans flooding the low rank games so they can earn some in-game currencies. Vehicles areI returned after some years to the game. Unfair advantages like camo-brushes can be bought with real money. The in-game market let you exchange vehicles with a special currency, gaijin coins, that is a 1:1 with real money, e.g € or $. Some vehicles are listed with up to 2000,- GC!
    All in all I can't recommend the game. The developers are not listening to the player base but try to press every cent possible out of the player. Do yourself a favor and avoid this game.    … Expand

    You need to perform exceptionally well to make a decent amount of in-game money, and if you fail, you get taxed and suffer.
    Also if you perform very well, you get treated unfairly in the matchmaking system by being put in matches with vehicles that are higher technology than yours.
    For example lets say you use a late WW2 tank and do very well. Next game you'll likely be placed with post WW2 tanks made in 1960s.
    Because the game devs doesn't want you to do too well.
    The game devs don't want to implement a rank/skill based matchmaking system that would be more fair to players.
    So to combat the well performing players, they simply get put in a highly unfair match with vehicles superior to theirs.    … Expand

The balancer does not play the game, but is based on the statistics of earned research points and silver lions. They recruit map makers from freelance, because for three years there was not a single normal map. Lods on maps are generally a separate art form, and especially in Helicopter PvE. In tank RBs at high BR, attack aircraft are not playable due to the abundant amount of air defense systems, the repair cost for these attack aircraft is unjustifiably high, and stock vehicles are the most unplayable vehicles in the game, if you want to play donate, if you want to get to the top vehicle faster, donate if if you want to have damage, donate (I don’t know how it works, but it works), if you don’t want to play on one map, donate. And your list of unwanted cards in this game does not count. And Gaijins wanted to sh** on the opinion of players who don't donate to the game. No donation, no game////

Спустя 6 лет игры в это говно, я бы сказал что оно не достойно вашего внимания в 2023, такое чувство что ты играешь в открытую бета, проект который требует от тебя доната что бы "поддержать" игру. В то время как инди игры которые разрабатывает один человек имеют листья нормального качества, в War Thunder листья не менялись с релиза игры, даже на новый картах. Балансировщик не играет в игру а основуется на статистике заработанных очков исследования и серебряных львов. Картоделов походу с фриланса набирают, потому что в течении трёх лет не было ни одной нормальной карты. Лоды на картах это вообще отдельный вид искусства а особенно в Вертолётных PvE. В танковых РБ на высоких БР штурмовая авиация не играбельна за счёт обильного количества ЗРК, цена ремонта на эти штурмовики не оправдано высока, а стоковая техника это самая не играбельная техника в игре, хочешь играть задонать, хочешь быстрее дойти к топовой технике, задонать, если хочешь что бы у тебя был урон, задонать (не знаю как это работает, но оно работает), не хочешь играть на одной какой-то карте, задонать. А твой список нежелательных карт в этой игре не учитывается. И Gaijins срать хотели на мнение игроков которые не донатят в игру. Нет доната, нет игры    … Expand

    The economy in this game gets worse and worse with every update and the monetization is getting out of hand. Every dev blog and update contains some sort of mechanism to make the grind harder or to milk the community more. The only thing gaijin does is exploiting its own community

    The mechanics of volume shells were added to the game back in 2018, but as practice has shown, this mechanic does not allow you to pierce what you should pierce. Also interesting damage to light vehicles that do not die and sometimes do not even break through.
    There are also a lot of cars in the game that need to change combat ratings because they are too high.
    The economy is also not in the best condition, it does not allow you to play for 7.3 - 11.7 plus on earnings, which forces players to grind or buy higher premiums.    … Expand

    I've played about 1,000 hours since 2015 and in 2020 my patience ran out. Finally, I'm not the only one who's had a breakdown. As an experienced player I would like to list the "pluses" of this wonderful game that have been introduced.
    1) Taking away points for taking off and landing

    9) Elimination of helicopter modes and the complete inability to pump helicopters without donation
    10) Even from their highly questionable and controversial battlepasses they cut one vehicle, making them 3 instead of 4
    11) Points from capturing the point is now divided among all, rather than given to each, so there is no point in waiting for people on the point
    12) Removal of crowbars as stock ammo for tanks
    13) Removal of small prizes in marathons (previously there were 6 prizes, but now there are only 4)
    14) Introducing tank based vanshooting anti-aircraft guns to the centre of the map
    15) Nerf rewards and orders for farming in battle

But now days the economy has jumpped off a cliff to the point that as a free to play player you simply can't afford to play the game, and even if you buy premium and premium vehicles you'll still barely break even or make a profit. Combined with the fact that even with premium time and vehicles the grind is still on the level of free to play to the point that it feels near pointless to even spend money on the game. All this combined with Gaijins lack of communication with the playerbase to the point that they are literally detached from reality just adds to the frustration, not to mention that on the few occasions where they have decided to actually collect feedback it has been after enourmous effort from the whole playerbase threatning Gaijins bottom line that they have come out with a half baked appology, followed with talking down and patronizing of their players and finally a poll with two equally bad options for the players to choose from. This cirlce repeats every so often and its results usually wary from keeping the status Quo to making the game even worse, while celebrating the success of "Co-operation" between the players and Gaijin. Not to mention that the Publisher threatened to shut down the game if they recieved any more negative critic and the fact that they refuse to consider any comments and or suggestions that aren't posted on their forums, in which in order to post something it has to be reviewed by a moderator and accepted before anyone can see it.

    This free to play game offers you the option to either not affording to play the game for free or buying premium and still not affording to play the game, all the while talking down to and patronizing the customer.    … Expand

    I'd say it's been a constant downhill slide, but it's more of a constant, growing squeeze towards making exorbitant pay-to-play in-game purchases the only sustainable way to research and maintain a roster of vehicles. The game is soul-sucking and mostly painful. The company is greedy **** The occasional high of shooting down a jet at mach 2 in no way makes up for the rest of the smell.

    I dont wanna make a negative review on warthunder but they make the game worse, it used to be fun in the past if you kill 3 tanks you will get 1k rp but now it got nerfed so much you need to kill atleast 5 tanks to make 1k rp and if you make a mistake then say goodbye to your silver lion
    Btw, download this game is a huge mistake I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT

    The game is a simulator of how people were pushed around in the Soviet regime. You are constantly mocked and sent to another place, treated as cannon fodder or... punished (with or without reason and of course without the possibility of appeal).
    Servers down? (common issue) You may ask when we can expect the repair? Your question at best will be deleted. "Everything works, comrade! Don't ask or... BAN." Have you encountered a strange phenomenon (maybe BUG) and are trying to figure out if it's just you who has the problem? You will get everything from mockery to further warnings but no answer. Want to get anything done? "This is not the place, comrade. Run from department to department. From institution to institution (so as not to get anything done). Do you want to complain about illegal activity? If you have not been banned yet... you are probably in the wrong place and the person to whom you are addressing "has absolutely no supervision, contact or causative power" xD
    As for the game itself. Nothing depends on you here either. Battles are so "random" that you lose even if you play great (but you are "unlucky"). Sometimes everything works out strangely (because in this battle your opponent is supposed to be defeated). This is trully the BEST SIMULATOR OF SOVIET UNION I've ever encountered. The game can be very instructive for fans of "great Russia". It's pity the Pope didn't play it...    … Expand

    One of the cornerstones of War Thunder is that player’s skill is more important than his wallet. Premium vehicles offer no combat advantages, there is no “microtransaction-only” ammo or consumables, so no amount of cash will buy you a spot on the top of the food chain. [Issue#216, p.56]

    The official launch of War Thunder reminded me why I like this game so much. It's adorably chaotic - in contrast to the reliably designed World of Tanks. That's why it can be really fun and frustrating at the same time. There's tons of great vehicles (and the planes are superb!) and a difficult simulation mode, but there are also balance and technical issues.
