    Dev team became greedy and tried to milk their already too-forgiving player base even further than they've already had, If you wanted to enjoy war thunder, build a time machine and travel back to when ground battles were first added, or even further back and go back to when it first came out.

    I wrote a long review only to get 403. So here is the short summary.
    Bad balance.
    Broken vehicle models. Bad map balance. Bad netcode. Devs ignore issues and rather keep adding stuff to chanel the attention elsewhere. Massive grind. Smurfs. Any time they decide to fix some real issue it gets worse or the change is reverted for some reason. Like "playerbase didnt like the changes"    I wrote a long review only to get 403.     The developers are doing their absolute best to make f2p players quit the game. The economy sucks, a lot of bugs aren't fixed despite many bug reports from players and if this isn't enough some premium vehicles are much better than their tech tree counterparts. My advice is don't waste your time and go play something else.

    There is a very good game to be found here, providing an experience unlike any of its peers. Unfortunately that game is buried by devs who act seemingly to harm the community, doing their best to make the game less fun and more frustrating. They are also constantly adding new monetization methods to the game at increasing costs, whilst also providing less for the money you pay. Not to mention they do their best to gaslight the playerbase, telling them that the changes they are making are good and that the playerbase should be happy, whilst it is clear to everyone it is the exact opposite.

    They have also previously given the community the option to pick what they would like the new end of match reward multiplier to be for a win/loss, however both options resulted in a net loss of rewards for the playerbase. Then when critiqued about this decision, they constantly blame the community for the loss of rewards, saying it is what they chose, when no matter the outcome, the rewards were to be lower.

    War Thunder has serious potential, too bad Gaijin would rather squander it in favor of making a quick buck.    … Expand

    Cute, but no. The game will lose players right when it stops providing enough of regular non-premium currency to enjoy playing the vehicles they EARNED by playing. The player is punished for sinking the time into earning a higher tiered vehicle and will have to play each match with this vehicle in looming anxiety over underperforming in a match and losing money. When enough of those bad matches happen where the player loses in-game money instead of earning it they will be pretty much blocked from playing that specific vehicle because the earnings will never outweigh the repair costs.

    And when do the earnings outweigh the repair costs? When you purchase a premium vehicle. Don't fall for the blatantly corporate-speech written blog posts providing you with reasons defending why you can't play matches with your Abrams or F-14 for several days.

    The audacity of Gaijin to teach us what it means to progress in a F2P game. Gaijin spits in your face and expects you to take it like a little **** and kiss their feet for it.

    If you value your time invested in a game and expect it to respect that time don't even bother installing this. This may have once been the best game in its genre but those days are long gone, stomped by greed and disrespect into the ground. Gaijin doesn't deserve your time, let alone your money.    … Expand

    One of the most frustrating and simultaneously "satisfying" games I've ever played. The grind in this supposed free-to-play game starts around rank III vehicles and the RP (Research Points) and SL (Silver Lion) costs skyrocket from there.

    While it is fun to collect rare and valuable vehicles, it requires an abhorrent amount of time and effort to complete seasonal challenges to get them.    One of the most frustrating and simultaneously "satisfying" games I've ever played. The grind in this supposed free-to-play game starts around rank III vehicles and the RP (Research Points) and SL (Silver Lion) costs skyrocket from there.

    While it is fun to collect rare and valuable vehicles, it requires an abhorrent amount of time and effort to complete seasonal challenges to get them. The requirements for these seasonal challenges and events increases in difficulty each year.

    The playerbase is incredibly toxic and hostile, no-doubt caused by the frustrating grind and "cheesy" tactics and vehicles used by some players. Gaijin sells vehicles and offers nations, on a rotating basis, overpowered aircraft and tanks, nerfing them after sales slump to appease the complaints of the playerbase.

    Overall, I would NOT recommend this game to anyone until Gaijin becomes a more customer-focused business and introduces fun into their game.

    * EDIT 05/18/2023: This game is still terrible, don't play it and waste your time or money. Gaijin doesn't care about its playerbase, and it never has. It's increasingly clear that there are no actual developers working on this game, only code monkeys with little scripting ability that simply put commissioned assets into the game.    … Expand

    I've played the game since 2016 and it was fun then now gaijin can go to hell with the economy nerfs, make the game fun again. Remember brothers no GE, no Premium and make the servers dead on 26th of May.

If you knock down your opponent, you get 2,000, but if you fall, you lose 10,000. If you want to make money, you have to knock down five people like you to make money. But the developer thinks it's normal to get 1,000 silver and lose 15,000 silver with the new update. The developers have shamelessly tweaked the mechanics, making it virtually impossible to thrive without pouring in an excessive amount of time or resorting to spend an absurdly large amount of real money. The relentless focus on monetization has tainted the game's essence and alienated the player base.
    Moreover, progressing within the game has become an uphill battle, devoid of any joy or satisfaction. Instead of fostering a sense of accomplishment, the game constantly throws hurdles in your path, discouraging any aspirations for advancement. The once-exciting journey has devolved into an infuriating grind, leaving players disheartened and unmotivated.
    Perhaps the most agonizing aspect of War Thunder is the unbearable amount of time it takes to unlock essential features, such as vehicles, and earn in-game currency (silver lions), even if you buy premium time. The sheer amount of effort required to progress in the game with or without premium time has reached unprecedented levels. This prolonged process not only drains the fun out of the game but also signifies a blatant disregard for the players' time and dedication.
    To add insult to injury, the developers' empty promises of addressing player feedback only serve to highlight their lack of genuine commitment. Despite their attempts to appear receptive, it has become painfully evident that our concerns fall on deaf ears.     I genuinely want to be able to recommend this game, the graphics are nice, and there is no other game like it, but it just feels like every update they want to make things worse for you, the grind gets worse and worse, money rewards go down, prices keep going up.     For those that are new to the game and looking for a great game about tanks and planes (excluding helicopters and naval because those are ass), War Thunder is not for you at the moment. The economy is so bad that you NEED to be a god-like player to play and gain. For now just look the other way and wait for improvements.

The economy in this game is so broken. Unless you pay them real money for and advantage, there is no way to ever really break even in matches, especially in higher tiers.

    The grind to top tier tanks and planes are long, and when you reach the top, you realize being average is not sustainable. They make you pay an arm and a leg for dying, and give poor reward multipliers when you play well.

Theres also a lack of effort on the companies end to actually put effort into any other portion of the game. No new modes, a couple new maps but they added copy paste mapsUsed to be a great game. It's even worse, if you don't want to or simply can't spent any money on the game. If your interest lies in modern vehicles and you can't spare money, you shouldn't even think about touching it.

    Another thing is, the management and pr department of gaijin is just extremly arrogant, which is one of the reasons, why the current uproar even exists in it's form. Not only aren't they listing, they also think, that they have to explain what a free-2-play game is, while contradicting themselves in the said explanation.

    So, unless they have a honest change of heart, I can't recommend the game at all. It's pretty sad, because it has a lot of potential.    … Expand

    The official launch of War Thunder reminded me why I like this game so much. It's adorably chaotic - in contrast to the reliably designed World of Tanks. That's why it can be really fun and frustrating at the same time. There's tons of great vehicles (and the planes are superb!) and a difficult simulation mode, but there are also balance and technical issues.
