Instead of employing trivial jump scare tactics, Visage expertly toys with your senses and messes with your head, first causing uneasiness, and then evoking authentic fear. There’s no reason to weep for the cancelled Silent Hills anymore. We’ve got Visage, the best horror game of the year, maybe even the best in years. [13/2020, p.51]

Visage creates a palpable playground for fans of horror to revel in, tapping into different flavors of fear to create an unsettling experience. All too often, genre titles fall back on repetitive jump scares and shock value, but Visage lets the house burn into your brain and leaves you questioning every decision to open a door or descend a staircase.

Visage is quite possibly the most oppressive experience we've had since Amnesia: The Dark Descent. The variety of gameplay and terrifying set pieces make this surreal nightmare of human psyche and things lurking in the dark, a must play.

Visage is a truly terrifying psychological horror, worthy heir of PT.

Visage drapes over you like some ghastly blanket, smothering you with unsettling ambiance and high-quality scares. Though it fumbles a certain stretch of gameplay, its otherwise meticulously designed structure, head-scratching puzzles, and creative manipulation of level design more than pick up any slack.

Sometimes Visage shows the seams of a project with less resources than the games that serve as its inspiration, but the final result overcomes it and translates into a long and varied experience with an absolutely terrifying atmosphere.

Visage is a great survival horror that will scare you with terrific atmosphere, the jumpscares and its grotesque phantoms.

Visage is a game survival horror fans must experience for themselves at least once to fully appreciate, even with its flaws. Watching the game through the eyes of a streamer simply does not compare to the masterful way it manipulates its players emotions and tension levels. Visage is not just another edgy PT wannabe, and if players can get past the controls and be patient with the puzzles, they're in for a genuinely frightening ride.

Visage is quite simply one of the best horror games to hit the market in recent times, an experience you won't easily forget. [Eurogamer Italy Recommended]

Visage requires patience as you progress through some truly horrific chapters, rewarded with even more nightmares as you encounter many supernatural elements. There are some beautiful environments to investigate, but the reused assets and unused space only hurt this game’s immersion. In many ways, this works as an adventure inspired by PT, but it’s defining elements are found in its unique features.

A more than discreet survival horror that stands out among its congeners.

Visage is close to being of the best horror games of recent years, but it's held back by some annoying aspects. The inventory controls are awkward, there were still a few bugs that prevented me from interacting with the environment, and the chapters are far too uneven, with the third being particularly bad. That being said, if you are prepared to work through these issues there is a lot of spooky fun to be found here and it is more than just jump scares for streamers (although there are plenty of those). With a little more polish and a better third chapter, this could have been an essential purchase. Instead, Visage is somewhat haunted by the spectre of what might have been.

Visage is one of the most terrifying games I’ve ever played, full stop, but it’s not going to be for all horror fans. The game’s perplexing puzzles, convoluted story, and rough edges will turn off some, but if you can stick it out, there’s a good chance it will eventually sink its hooks into you. Good horror can take time to process, and I believe Visage’s dark presence will only grow with time.

Incredibly excited to finish it. Atmosphere is so tense, and that sticks with you throughout, so scary in parts i needed to take a few breaks in between. Any fan of horror games, do not miss this, play it and invest in the finished game. Full Review »
