Reminds me a lot of Layers of Fear when that arrived in early access, been waiting for this game for some time, and from all game play seen so far, has always given us a promise of a true horror experience, and we have gotten exactly that, although the game is still in early access, (day 1 ) presumably 20 hours game-play left spanning over the entire game! Incredibly excited to finish it.Reminds me a lot of Layers of Fear when that arrived in early access, been waiting for this game for some time, and from all game play seen so far, has always given us a promise of a true horror experience, and we have gotten exactly that, although the game is still in early access, (day 1 ) presumably 20 hours game-play left spanning over the entire game! Incredibly excited to finish it. Atmosphere is so tense, and that sticks with you throughout, so scary in parts i needed to take a few breaks in between. Any fan of horror games, do not miss this, play it and invest in the finished game. Expand

I normally don't write reviews, but Visage was different, so I felt obligated to write one

The atmosphere and the vibe generally felt dark and depressing, maybe lonely, mix that with random events happening throughout the game and the sense that everything seems normal but isn't. The game also doesn't give you much to work with at first, that's maybe a bit confusing, but the game

Visage for me is psychological horror at its finest, and something no horror fan should miss out on

This is one of those hidden gems that you encounter and then ask yourself "Why haven't I heard about this game before?". If ever there was a varied and deeply unsettling horror game, this game is it. The settings and themes contained within scared the crap out of me.

And it wasn't because of cheap jump-scares (those are part of the game too though, so if you like those, you will get to

And it wasn't because of cheap jump-scares (those are part of the game too though, so if you like those, you will get to change your underwear several times). This game is far more intelligent than that. It's a psychological horror game. And it will get under your skin in the most depressing ways. And while that might be a problem to some, it is exactly what I want from a horror game. It dares to go where most other games don't.

You will have to bring your a-game though, when it comes to patience - it's by design. The game progresses in very subtle ways. You will have to look and listen for the clues. And you will be awarded with some amazingly atmospheric and beautifully depressing vistas and the stories contained therein.

It's also a puzzle game. So if you are worried that it is a walking simulator, it is not. You will be walking a lot mind you. But there is always a point to it all.

    I love this game!

A must play for horror fans.
If you are a hardcore fan of horror games or just horror in general, you must play this game. Overall, as a game it is a 7/10 kind of game, but for us die hard horror fans, it's a 1000/10, by far the best horror experience I've ever had

Really challenging game and many ways to keep you anxious and scared. I've been playing this game on stream and the amount of times my viewer are laughing at me being scared is hilarious.

Instead of employing trivial jump scare tactics, Visage expertly toys with your senses and messes with your head, first causing uneasiness, and then evoking authentic fear. There’s no reason to weep for the cancelled Silent Hills anymore. We’ve got Visage, the best horror game of the year, maybe even the best in years. [13/2020, p.51]

Visage is close to being of the best horror games of recent years, but it's held back by some annoying aspects. The inventory controls are awkward, there were still a few bugs that prevented me from interacting with the environment, and the chapters are far too uneven, with the third being particularly bad. That being said, if you are prepared to work through these issues there is a lot of spooky fun to be found here and it is more than just jump scares for streamers (although there are plenty of those). With a little more polish and a better third chapter, this could have been an essential purchase. Instead, Visage is somewhat haunted by the spectre of what might have been.

Visage drapes over you like some ghastly blanket, smothering you with unsettling ambiance and high-quality scares. Though it fumbles a certain stretch of gameplay, its otherwise meticulously designed structure, head-scratching puzzles, and creative manipulation of level design more than pick up any slack.
