    It really upsets me when people give a game like this a 0 just because they don't like it. I'd only give a 0 if it was the worst game I've ever played but this game is amazing. This game doesn't seem too interesting from the screen shots and stuff but once you get into it it begins to unravel why there are so many positive reviews for this game. Now nostalgia may be a factor on why thisIt really upsets me when people give a game like this a 0 just because they don't like it. I've never played Earthbound and I don't have any nostalgia for old games anyway since I've been gaming since the PS2 came out which is pretty recent. I can't really write about the story since the game really impacts you if you don't know anything about it first. All I can say is that you should play this game. You won't be disappointed.… Expand

    Anyone who says this is not a good game wouldn't know a good game if it came right up and punched them in the face. This is not just a good game, it is one of the BEST games you will ever play. Unless you have no soul: then you're going to have a bad time ;) The detail, the thought, the ingenuity and originality of this game is second to none, and equaled by very few.

    Do yourself a favor and play this game without knowing anything about it. This game is a whole other experience. This isn't just a simple rpg, Undertale has created its own genre.

    Everything about this game is amazing.

    The bad puns.

    The goofy characters.

    The hilarious and entertaining boss fights.

    Everything is just designed to perfection. This game deserves every ounce of hype it's received. It honestly changed the way I've looked at video games and even life itself! Everybody NEEDS to give it a chance.

    Heart. It can mean a lot of things, even in games, in Undertale, a heart is used to display your soul, but it represents so much more than that. When a game, especially an independent game is given so much time and effort by the developers not just to improve quality of the game itself, but to improve the experience of the players to something better than we could ever hope for.     This is a game that draws heavily from the Earthbound school of RPGs with strong characterizations, interesting looking character designs and a LOT of well written humor. The graphics, while simple are very well animated and expressive with a few surprises.

    The battlestyle of this game is quite unique, and reminds you of old RPG. It's very intuitive and becomes quite a challenge later in the game, and becomes even harder depending on some of your choices.

    The music is phenomenal. When buying this game I would highly recommend buying the OST to go along with it. It's great. It really adds to the gameplay.

    You get so into it you get lost track of time. That's really all there is to say without spoiling any of the game.

    It's a masterpiece and it's only ten bucks. Go buy it and try it out.    … Expand

The gameplay is rock solid, with an ingenious battle system which blends aspects of shoot 'em ups (how come we never saw more of this? It is brilliant!).     I wasn't expecting much I first saw it, it was like: "Hey, another 16-bit videogame, it looks pretty cool though. Might check it out later". Then the main youtuber I follow started playing it. Oh my god, he was awful, not beating it 'cause it's a really easy game.. for the most part, but he was hating on everyone spoiling it and doing everything wrong, so I dw it.. Well before I even purchased it I tried to read a review that basically told me to stop reading it, check the score (it was a 10) and just go play the game. They were right.     Im going to keep this short because I dont feel like delving too much into it but this has been the first game in ages to strike such an emotional cord with me. Everything from the writing, the dialogue and the OST are stellar. I haven't been this emotionally invested in a game in a long long time. In a sea of AAA games with no creativity left, this game is a wonderful breath of fresh air. I know I'm being incredibly vague and general but the dialogue and interactions you have with each character are incredibly cleverly written. If you like games that take your actions into account well Undertale is great for that.     I picked up Undertale because my friend told me to. I did.
    At first I thought it was like Earthbound, but it was nothing like it. The character and dialogue writing is amazing. Could be the game of the year.

    I was wrong. This game was amazing! Quirky, effortlessly fun. The morality system, characters, and replay value all contribute to this being one of my favorite games this year. Not only that, but I feel like this might be one of those game that even people who aren't traditional gamers can get into.     when i first started playing this game i had decided to do 2 runs, one peaceful one evil. But after playing this game through just 1 time, i could not get myself to do an evil run, this game is so amazing, at the end, i got hit by a feels bus. i really came to feel for the characters in the game and i have never had this much feels from completing a game, this is a 10/10 from me.     This is the first game made me cry like a baby, I couldn't stop for a few minutes. It was amazing experience for me and I think It brings new unique piece to the game genre. Those who just started the game and wandering "what's so special about it, why they give it 10/10?" then you might justify that after you finish it. Especially after finishing it following the advice:

    And honestly, that's really the best way to play this game.

    Doing so brings us back to the old days before everything was on the internet in 5 minutes, where there were never any surprises anymore, where every new game we played as kid was like a new adventure for us, filled with wonder and amazement, wondering what was going to happen next or what else we could do in those games.

    My game of the year for 2015. This is a fantastic example of a literally excellent independent video game, one that is filled with soul, dedication and effort. To play Undertale is a necessity for RPG fans and those that are not. I could go on for hours about why Undertale is such a great game, but to know why, you need to play it yourself, not knowing what to expect in any way.

    I love this fantastic game. The moral of the Pacifist run and how Genocide gives everyone the feels. Its just so wonderful to see the game sprouting after all these years. Hehe. You can go live without any harm done. Its so unique how you can just free everyone instead of fighting them to the death. Lovely, 10/10.

    For a game developed by 1 guy, Undertale proves to be a fantastic Indie game experience that has rocked the gaming world since it's release. The unique game play, the fantastic characters and deep mysteries have spawned a large fan base. This game is one of the greatest RPGs and Indie game ever made.

Although the art-style is a bit outdated/retro the way it is worked with and used makes it visually appealing anyway. The gameplay is a mix of turn-based rpgs and bullet hell where every move you make matters in the over-arching story.     I went into this game expecting a soulless Earthbound clone. I was so wrong. It's personality, atmosphere and characters all mix together in such an amazing way. Near the end I was in tears. I played and finished it at a friend's house but when I get enough money I'm going to buy it on Steam and play through it again. By far the best game I've ever played. Would recommend to anyone.

The meh Characters are kinda lackluster at time, the puzzles are not challenging at all and some of the story is forced. I felt as though they were appropriately challenging, not hard, but when I had some of my more casual friends play it, I was surprised to see they all seemed to struggle immensely against the difficulty that the shmup sections provided.     The combat is always evolving, never ever getting stale, and it's a real joy to go through the game finding out how to become friends with every enemy you come across.
    The puzzles are never particularly difficult, but I feel this was done on purpose. The puzzles are there to make you think a bit and keep things dynamic, not stump you and grind things to a halt. The game doesn't spoonfeed you, it instead rewards you for working things out on your own or being quick-witted.
    Also, the music is phenomenal! Leitmotifs are used to amazing effect, as well as traditional instruments blending sublimely with synthesized ones to create wonderful tracks.
    The only negative thing I have to say about this game is that sometimes jokes can drag on a bit too long... but even then, that's maybe twice in a six to seven hour game.
    I love this game and its story so much I would pay for DLC or a comic book or something that's just about the lives of the characters after the True Ending.
    This is a game you should definitely play for yourself. Don't look up guides, let's plays, walkthroughs, don't research the characters on the wiki, NOTHING, until you've beaten it yourself. You won't want to spoil this amazing story.    … Expand

On the surface, Undertale looks like a traditional JRPG, but digging deeper you find a very melancholic but positive outlook on real life itself, the friends you meet on your journey, and being able to stay determined even when things start to look grim...at least that's what I got out of it, to me that's Undertale's greatest strength. Besides a really meaningful message, the game has a great story, memorable characters, hilarious sense of humor, and an amazing soundtrack.

    The story is about a boy, nameless protagonist *insert name here*, who falls from the human world into a land that's filled with monsters, and as the nameless protagonist *insert name here*, you must journey through this land and eventually find your way back to the human world. Of course you encounter enemies, bosses, memorable characters, skeletons that make hilariously bad puns, and dogs along the way that it's hard not to get engrossed in this world and actually start caring about the people you meet along the way.

    While I highly recommend sticking with the Pacifist run and experiencing the amazing Pacifist True Ending, there's also a Genocide run you can do which basically means instead of negotiating and sparing everyone you come in contact with, you play it in a more traditional way and massacre everyone you meet. I have yet to do this and I'm not sure if I could do this. I've grown to love the characters so much I couldn't even think about doing the Genocide run... this game is really good at making you care about the in-game characters.

    The battle system is very unique, encouraging you to not kill enemies but instead trying to negotiate your way to sparing your enemy. The enemies themselves have a very fun and unique way of attacking, spraying bullet-hell type attacks in a way that almost feels like Wario Ware's micro games. Through the battle system you learn about the enemies, and come to understand them.

    The characters themselves are very memorable, my favorites being the bone headed brothers, Sans and Papyrus, who are literally skeletons. Characters you meet and befriend are mostly bosses who want to kill you but with your determination, eventually they give up and instead help and encourage you along your journey to get back to the surface and return to the human world.

    The soundtrack as a whole is amazing, sporting many catchy songs, atmospheric melodies, and many mood setting pieces. There's a really good song that to me sums up the game's atmosphere perfectly. "Memory" does a great job at setting the melancholic but positive tone of the game.

    Some moments in this game are really psychological, messing with player interaction as well as breaking the fourth wall to a degree that not even Psycho Mantis from Metal Gear Solid could manage. This game does a great job of just playing with your mind even if you don't even realize it's playing with your mind.

    It's hard to explain in detail what makes this game so good. In short I'd say experience it for yourself, try the demo if my review hasn't piqued your interest. But seriously do yourself a favor and play this game, it's only $10 and what you get in this game is more than what most Triple 'A' developers offer for $60 games these days.

    When I was a child, sure I played video games. But only one could completely and thoroughly encapsulate me with it's gameplay, charm, lore, and more... The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. For years I loved this game, and (sparsely) replay it to this day. The magic of it, pulling me in and keeping me there thinking there was a way to get that pesky Triforce. This was an age before the Internet truly boomed and secrets weren't revealed twenty minutes after release. It was almost like the game was alive to me.

    Then, I grew up. Or at least I thought I did... Maybe I just had to accept the fact that what I had was in front of my. No special secrets, no truer ending than it's final credits.

    You get older. Games became routine. Suddenly, games became fifty shades of brown, they became shooters, they became hide behind cover, they became cookie cutter. Unable to lose my addiction I'd play games, but I'd hate myself doing it.

    I assumed the magic was gone forever.

    Until this odd little game came out that I hadn't heard of. Undertale.

    I managed to beat it through once. I had overheard to be a pacifist and it had supposedly paid off until my first runs end. The game had to start over. But that was when I realized...

    There is magic. There IS MAGIC.

    Multiple endings! Being truly judged by your actions! Not everything has been found yet. There is still a search for Gaster. Whatever spark, whatever imagination I had as a kid playing OoT... Suddenly it's back. And I can dissect the game by MY rules. I've completed all three known "true" endings but I know it, I KNOW there is more to this little game.. and it's what keeps me going.

    The characters, gameplay, bullet hell mechanics, all just icing on top. This truly is a masterpiece that came out of nowhere and I'm proud to have bought it.    … Expand

    The trolls are so real on Metacritic, I never knew it was this bad.

    Earthbound meets bullet hell, with the best story and writing you'll get in a video game for a very, very long time.
    The world will never see another Undertale, but hopefully we'll see more from Toby Fox.

    It's unique, it's different, it gives you, the player a choice that would affect the entire game,
    seriously, the game remembers all of your actions, even when you reset the entire game.
    I don't understand why @blubberguts would rate this game 0 when he/she said he/she only played this game for a few minutes.

    The difficulty was extremely right. Every encounter had it's own trick, but always remained fun.
    The game's pace never left me bored, or too stressed. It was just the right amount. Same thing about the world, and by that I mean that it wasn't too linear, nor a place where you can easily get lost in. Just the right amount of openness.
    The writing and the characters were absolutely sensational. They were all interesting and well defined and interacted really well with the protagonist, whether you decide to be evil or good.
    Graphics brought the feeling of nostalgia really well, while giving the game a very unique feeling at the same time, not just the same rehashed stuff.

    I think that this game is right in every way and I cannot find any reason not to give it a 10/10.
    It is an absolute masterpiece that deserves playing, even if you're not a fan of RPGs in particular.    … Expand

It has a unique art style, absolutely jaw-dropping music, interesting gameplay, and one of the most diverse and deep stories I've ever seen (that will also COMPLETELY change depending on how you play). Not buying this would be one of the worst choices you could ever make.

I got up to Papyrus, (like the second boss) and felt sick to my stomach after killing him. I literally stopped playing.

    The music... I can't even begin with the music. Every boss fight has just the right soundtrack for it. The diversity in boss music is amazing. I don't know how he did it, but he did. I'm listening to the soundtrack right now! Just listen for yourself.

    The gameplay is great. It's not just a generic turn based JRPG ripoff. It has some Touhou Project bullet dodging every turn. It takes actual skill to fight some of the genocide bosses.

    The graphics are great too, but that's my opinion. Everyone has their own tastes I guess. But I read a review of someone hating the graphics because, well just read it. "How is tired when indie projects put pressure on nostalgia, these pixel games are just annoying! where progress?". Come on, really?

    Overall, this game is quite easily the best game I've played in probably the last 5 years. Especially a game made by one freaking person. This is the one game I would give a 10. Even if the game isn't to your taste, don't give it a **** 0. That is just disgusting. I wouldn't give E.T. The Extra Terrestrial a 0. Errrrrrrgh...    … Expand

    Amazing game. It shows that sometimes the simplest in graphics can be outstanding in ways I couldn't understand. I will say that this is my favorite game of all time. Amazing story, the characters will have you bursting into laughter or with tears running down your cheeks. It has humor, twists, emotion, everything you need to make a great game. I would suggest this to anyone.

    The gameplay is fun regardless of whether or not you are talking or fighting your way through an encounter, though honestly most of that enjoyment comes from defending yourself. The bullet hell cut ins and the way they defy expectation creates a system that's extremely varied and extremely fun. Just when you get used to the classic bullet hell combat, with a few small twists already thrown in, the entire mechanic of it changes for specific fights. Maybe now you can shoot, or it becomes sort of like a rythm game, or you have to platform.

    The grander story and the emotion of the game is it's real selling point. From the way it encourages you to stay determined when you die, to the way the ending brought me to tears, or how the "bad ending" rips at your heart in a way no other game ever could, it's all amazingly crafted. The joke "Toby thinks of everything" proves true more often then you expect and every playthrough you'll discover something new. Maybe a locked door you gave up on opening and entirely forgot about you'll stumble back upon!

If you are expecting the wonderful world of the Witcher 3, and the complex combat mechanics of Mass Effect, then look elsewhere. This is an adventure to be had when you want to chill out.

    This game is challenging. Not in the puzzles, but on how you need to act to spare your enemies and befriend them. Sure it may sound silly, but this breaks the norm of killing your enemies. Your character is clearly a child, why would a child kill? Unless you are a sick son'gun who wants to do a genocide, and if you're that person, kindly have a bad time :^)

    But this game soundtrack is great. You have great boss music, and great ambient music. Like in the house before you start your journey. And in the area where you go to the Spooky DJ's house (Not wanna spoil his name)

    Speaking of spoilers. This community is crazy on spoilers for new players. Every character must not be named, every character is a surprise to you on your first play-through. It's insane. But great. Because spoilers are bad.

    This game may not look like today's games, but who cares. You don't need good graphics or good visuals. You need something to show your game, but what your game needs is life. And this game has it. It has a soul. This game get's in your head and you're sucked in and you play it to the end.
    And you MUST pay attention to every single word every character says. Because if you do, you'll understand the story a lot. Especially with big characters, and those will be obvious every time you load up this game.

    Overall, 10/10 for this game. 10/10 for the soundtrack, the characters, the dialogue, the boss fights, and for that amazing ending. It will rip your heart out and will be fed back to you on a golden platter. Why? Because this game is rich. Rich in the story. Rich in the characters, dialogue and everything. Sure, the graphics are pixel-y, but it doesn't matter. This game is great. Shed 10 bucks for this game. Play it. Enjoy it.    … Expand

    Should you play it? - If you like well developed, nostalgic RPGs full of memorable and likeable characters, an interesting storyline, a likeable and fun aesthetic, light hearted humour, a mix between RPG and Bullet Hell combat, an amazing soundtrack, a game inspired by and almost a tribute to the Mother series, a break from overdeveloped AAA titles and games that feel more like a money grab by a big company, and a game that you'll want to play over quite a few times, for each of the different endings, each with their own meaning, then yes.
    At first glance this game looks like one of the thousands of other RPG or topdown nostalgic themed indie games that manage to get past steams almost non-existent floodgates, and upon playing it only for a little, it may seem like that. But getting further and further into this game you begin to realise how much of an amazing game it really is. I personally began to grow attached to the amazingly well developed and likeable characters and the innocent, lighthearted humour, but also began to delve deeper into an interesting plot. I somewhat don't understand the negative reviews for this game and do not see at all what they're talking about in terms of their criticisms, but each to their own I guess. One of the most amazing games I've played in a long time, definitely worth a play.

It stands in defiance of the current state of the gaming industry as a whole and reminds me of the reasons why I originally loved to game - not for the competitive multiplayer, mmo, sandbox, dlc, whatever etc... but because it is legitimately fun.This is hands down one of the best games I have ever played. Heck, I bet most of the people that wrote the really bad reviews haven't even played through the true ending of the game and just decided to give up on it after they completed it for the first time. These people missed the whole fun factor because they were too set on other things that shouldn't have importance in the experience in my opinion. And I gotta say many of the people that read those reviews are probably never gonna give the game a chance which saddens me because it's a really great piece of work. And I gotta remind you this was practically a one man work, sure he was helped by some people but the project was mostly his so you there is no need to be so harsh when reviewing this game.

    Anyway this game is completely worth it's price. Like I said in my Steam review I felt I got way more than what I paid for.

    You will definitely feel sad if not even tear up at the end of this game. So i definitely reccomend this for everyone.

    The only bad thing that I think it's worth pointing out is some of the menu systems but that is just a small point in the game that doesn't break it at all.

    Overall if I could I'd give a 9.9/10 here in Metacritic but since that's not possible I'm giving it a 10.

    +I love the combat. It doesn't just go: "Bad guy attacked! you took 10 damage!" you can actually dodge all the enemy attacks... (this means you can go trough the entire game without taking any damage. altough that would be insanely hard to do)

    Sobre el apartado gráfico, no interesa si posee 3D o que tenga el mejor motor grafico, lo que mas importa es que el contexto en donde nos dirigimos en nuestra aventura, que siempre logra atrapar. Ademas que posee formas diferentes de gráficos que parecen de distintas consolas de las primeras generaciones, lo cual es un plus que se recompensa gratamente.
    La jugabilidad es muy innovadora y además que va creciendo su dificultad a medida que se va llegando al final, aunque la ruta genocida puede ser tediosa y también tener una dificultad mucho más elevada (sobretodo en el jefe final), es muy justificada debido a que el objetivo final del juego es que no completes dicha ruta para no "corromper" tu juego.
    Dicho esto, el juego tiene muchos diálogos y rompe varias veces la 4ta pared, realmente es un disfrute jugarlo y aun mas cuando lo vas descubriendo por ti mismo. El juego tiene mucho corazòn y está determinado a que pases un buen rato.    … Expand

With how much fun I still have with it, even though I wish sometimes I could forget all that I know to have a first impression again, I still get a ton of fun out of it.     When I first started playing Undertale, I thought it would be boring. But I got very attached to the characters on my first run, and I got very emotional towards the end. Undertale has permanently changed how I treat my friends and family, and is one of the greatest games I have ever played.

    Toby Fox knew what he was doing every step of the way. I'm really appreciative of that, and for the fact that the game could have been only 2 hours long - but the donations for it were 10 times that of needed, so I am really grateful everyone could turn something so small into something amazing.     Undertale consigue contar muchisimo con "pocos recursos" que no engañe la estetica y el humor ya que tambien toca muchos temas.

    La premisa de undertale es muy simple puedes pasarte el juego sin tener que matar a todo a lo que haya por delante, esto hace que haya diferentes finales esto no es un sistema de karma solo es ver el juego desde otros puntos de vista manipulando la opinion de todos del jugador.

    Lo mas interesante del juego son los combates si se le podrian decir combates,nuestro enemigo estara en primer plano donde pondra nuestra alma en un cuadrado, en esta podremos atacar o podremos actuar que en cada combate las acciones son diferentes insultar,llorar,cantar,hacer un chiste ect en cada accion que hacemos sea atacar o una accion se aprende algo del "enemigo" tratandolo como una persona no como un mounstruo si no como una persona tratando de convenserlo ,segun la accion que hagamos el "enemigo" se pondra mas enojado o simplemente no atacara si se "amiga con nosotros" podremos perdonarlos y solo ganaremos oro y nunca nunca podremos subir de nivel (siempre tendremos 20hp) en cambio si los matamos ganaremos "xp" y con mucha tendremos mas "AMOR".

    Hablando del "sistema de combates" es mas que eso son como mini-historias cada una cambiada por las acciones del jugador.

    Todo lo que haces en undertale tiene una consecuencia literalmente todo combates desiciones ect.

    El juego siempre esta en cambios constantes lo que hace que no sea necesario farmear ect,

    Otro punto fuerte de UNDERTALE es la banda sonora tiene 100 canciones y minimo 30 son joyas que hacen lo que quieren a la perfeccion,(sentimientos terror felicidad ect.) (Diciendo que practicamente la hizo solo una persona)es musica simple minimalista facil de tararear y pegajosa.

    El juego sabe lo que hiciste y guarda practicamente todas tus acciones guardes o no guardes una nueva partida o un load.

    La mayoria de personajes son simples pero tienen muchisimo mas trasfondo de lo que parecen hasta los vendedores tienen una historia pero lo mas importante es que parecen reales se nota en algunos detalles,como cuando toriel llama cada minuto para preguntarte si necesitas algo o te paso algo o cuando pregunta si prefieres canela o caramelo y te pregunta si no es que no te gusta (opcion que elegiste) y si lo comerias si lo tendrias en un plato.

    Otro punto que me gusto es que es Creativo y "REALISTA" (diciendo que es un juego de fantasia) es de los pocos que son de fantasia y no son tolkien como por ejemplo el vendedor si,tiene un boton para vender pero porque piensas que el te va a comprar algo el solo quiere sobrevivir y lo hace con un local de comida/objetos

    El juego atravieza la Cuarta pared constantemente como flowey sans y (otros personajes con los guardados) los puntos de guardados cuando te dice que te llena de determinacion ect no le hablan al personaje te hablan a ti.
    es casi imposible criticar mal este juego ya que hace tan bien lo que hace bien lo que hace que solo encontre unos pocos fallos...

    This is one of the best games I ever played in my life. The lore, characters, choices, battle system, everything is perfect!

The story was gripping and the writing was hilarious, Love-able characters and top tier music really shine too, The graphics are akin to Mother/Earthbound and it plays very similarly to them. Save Scumming is done in a really cool way and choices throughout the game actually matter. The game makes you question your morality in a unique way as well.One of the best games I've ever played.     I have never and will never again play a game that brought me such joy and gripped me in the way Undertale did. It is truly a unique masterpiece, and cannot be replicated. This indie game managed to be my favorite game of 2015, beating every big budget game because of it's charm and the DETERMINATION of Toby Fox.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Undertale is a very good game in so many ways. First of all, the game is a satire to all the Rpg's out there. How? This game puts you into a more "real" world. If you play any Rpg, you would mostly encounter the "bad guy" with all his evil intentions and nothing but cold blood running through his veins and only destruction/power/etc. as his objective. But as you play
    Undertale, you realize that this game is VERY different. In Undertale you are indeed fighting against "enemies", but if you pay attention, a bit of attention only, you'll realize that your "enemies" are actually good and they have pretty good motives to what they're doing. For example, Asgore, the so portrayed "Final Boss". When you face him, you get to know his story and the reason of why he is trying to kill you. Which are overall good reasons, I mean freedom for your race is a good reason in my opinion. Of course this argument leaves Flowie out, that **** is devil himself(and if you ask why I say him and not her, is because Flowie is in reality Asriel Dreemurr).
    Another reason why this game is so good, is how even though has only 2 voices in the whole game(excluding abc_123_a), the feelings it gets to transmit, and how well the characters express themselves is stunningly beautiful. The first time I played, I murdered Undyne, I regreted in the instant she started giving her final monologue as she was slowly dying, how she slowly attacked me, just made me want to go back and prevent it (the same with Toriel).
    In a game that looks like Undertale, I was waiting a gameplay similar to FF, Pokemon, or something similar. But as I advanced into the game, the way in which each character has his own way of attacking and how YOU evade the incoming attacks, is just revolutionary. I mean, Undertale is a game where you can win the whole game without actually losing a single hp point(that takes some skill). A game where you interact directly in how you attack(or don't), on how you survive, and it takes ONLY skill to do so, brings such a new way of playing that is so satisfying to the player.
    And last but not least, the way it brakes the 4th wall, is amazing. If you play Undertale more than once, and replay it differently to the way you did the 1st time, it won't take long to see that the texts and the game do not "speak" in the perspective of the character, but rather in the perspective of the player. Seeing things such as "I've already seen her die" or how flowy/chara/sans talk to you and tell you about how you reset the game, just brakes the forth barrier in such a way that I've never seen before. And don't get me in how Toby Fox placed the abc_123_a for all the "easter egg seekers" out there.

    Highly recommended game with great story telling, characters, and amazing music. The developer's even caring enough for people who prefer version 1.0 on the steam version and give an option to allow you to use it. Go in blind if you can.

People weren't quite sure how the game was working, but it was remembering their actions and adapting to them. I immediately closed the page for fear of seeing spoilers and got the game. Ill just say this, Mass effect, Fable, and pretty much every game with a moral choice ending I never ever gave two **** about going back as teh back guy

    This game, I got the best possible ending and I can't stomach the though of going back and doing the bad ending.

    Now I would like to review the negative reviews. If you're someone like me who likes filtering the negatives to see common complaints then you should know the negative reviews about this game on this site are utterly retarded and wrong

    -A common complaint I see is "oh well its just ripping off mother 3 and people only like it for nostalgia" Well ive never played a single mother game and in fact don't normally like RPG's of that nature. So people saying you will only enjoy this game if you have played an NES RPG are wrong. Another reason why this is such a stupid complaint is it plays noting like any other turn base, You can beat the entire game without leveling up once or killing and the bullet hell element adds an extra layer of challenge so you aren't just pushing buttons in menus. You can dodge every single attack in the game

    - Most of the bad reviews are a 0-2 out of ten. A 1 out of ten means you couldn't even get the game to start or there is a glitch that keeps you from beating it, 2 would be some type of gameplay element that made the game unbearable. I have no issue with people not enjoying this game but basically saying its unplayable is just down right short bus level stupid (Yeah I know giving a game a 10 means it suppose to be next to flawless, which I do think it deserves gameplay, music, creative wise there is noting wrong with it. You can for sure have a debate as to if the game should get a 10/10 but at least its an honest and legit argument )

    -Some guy seriously wrote as a downside the the game that the gameplay sucks because they take away an upgrade which has no gameplay purpose and its just a gag. That is the stupidest complaint ive ever read in my life. Ok that would be like if I offered you that joke gum thing that when you grab it a spring comes out and hits your thumb then you said "What the **** but where is the gum?!" There isn't suppose to be any...

    Again I have no issue with someone not enjoying this game or not getting the emotional connection. Im not saying you're not aloud to hate this game that would be stupid of me. Just need to call out misinformation and stupid comparisons to mother and this weird trend of instantly discrediting a game for having a 16 bit art style
    Saying the gamplay isn't fun or the game is short or what ever is one thing

    The most moving game I have ever played. Don't let the simple graphics fool you -- this game does things I've never seen before, even in triple-A titles. You'll never look at game characters the same way again.

Top three, minimum. Having been an RPG fanatic my entire life, I don't say this lightly, and it was so important to me that I express my feelings for Toby Fox's masterpiece. So, here we go!

    Don't judge the graphics by what you see in the trailer. Let's forget about graphical standards for a moment, because seriously, that shouldn't have been a selling point to any game in the first place. Undertale uses an incredibly simplistic art style to paint a deep and atmospheric world that would perhaps be difficult to digest otherwise. The battle screens feature exclusive monochromatic full body sprites of your "enemies". I had to mention these specifically because they just look gorgeous. In fact, they become progressively more so as you advance.

    In terms of gameplay, there's no RPG experience out there like this one. Fans of the Earthbound/Mother series will feel right at home with Undertale in that its gameplay elements are heavily inspired by the cult classic series. It features a standard, top-down overworld chock full of enjoyable puzzles and amusing secrets to discover. Any player knows that the battle system is what really shines in this game, however. Like Earthbound, Undertale sports a first-person combat screen, complete with a streamlined interface that's extremely easy for RPG fans and non-fans alike to understand. On top of the simple turn based system, there is a varied bullethell segment every term that counts as the enemy's attack. Navigating your "SOUL" through different styles of attacks can prevent you from taking minimal to no damage in that turn. I also want to mention that some battles take the mechanics into complete other directions by adding in elements of other genres, such as platformers, quiz games, shoot-em-ups, and so forth, making for very memorable moments throughout the game.

    Undertale's soundtrack, in my opinion, has easily been Toby's most impressive work so far, featuring an insanely-addictive selection of chiptune melodies, some accompanied by more modern synthesized instruments. Toby isn't known for ambient, atmospheric soundtracks that you hear in most of today's games. If you start playing this game, I hope you're prepared for an infernal punishment of tunes that you will never be able to get out of your head until you whistle along, and even then, it'll come back around at one point or another. While you play this game, prepare to enjoy one of the greatest video game musical scores of this decade. You'll also appreciate the incorporated humour in some tracks played in the game, at just the right moments.

    The story has everything I could've asked for. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you might even date a skeleton. The game features two polarizing branches of storyline, depending on how you choose to play the game. The fanbase has deemed these to be the Mercy and Genocide stories. The Mercy story and its ending are what people consider to be the "true" path of the game, while Genocide will offer you a bad time. I would only recommend the latter to more hardcore RPG players, due to its substantial difficulty increase. I would also recommend you have an iron will and no moral fiber whatsoever, because I know I couldn't handle the weight of playing Genocide myself. The game starts out with an incredibly simple and predictable intro, that quickly unwinds into a rabbit hole of beautifully-written characters, humour, and evoked emotions. I won't touch the actually story, because it's worth experiencing yourself spoiler-free, but I have to say, you won't ever forget it. The writing for the game is so clever and funny that you'll split a side laughing, and then on the other hand it'll pull at your deepest heartstrings. Also, there's a skeleton that you can date. Does any other game of 2015 have skeleton dating? I didn't think so.

    Okay, so I've gushed about the game and every bit that I love about it. Let's be honest about the negatives about the game. The first and most obvious con is that it had to end. Perhaps it ended a little bit too soon, averaging a 7 hour playthrough for most, 13 hours for myself. The graphics were appealing, but also could have used more polish in some areas. However, don't take that statement the wrong way; choosing not to buy this game because of this would be like throwing away a huge diamond because it has a chip. In closing, and if you're still reading this, I'm thankful you put in so much heart just to do so! Now seriously, go buy it! You could be diverting all of that effort into the game itself, and you'd be getting so much more out of it! I wish I could have said more, but I'm almost at the character limit for this review.     There are many games nowadays trying to break the graphical barriers, introduce something controversial not yet seen in gaming. You can feel the competitive nature behind these companies.

    My personal favorite game of all time. The humor is very enjoyable, and the music is absolutely fantastic, I cannot stress this enough. But what brings this game above and beyond is its completely unprecedented range of emotion between a good run and an evil run, and how much it can get you to care about each character.     With multiple endings based on how you choose to play out your run, set pieces that can play out very differently based on your actions and so many incredible moments that we’d love to share but daren’t do so for risk of spoiling anything, Undertale is easily one of the indie standouts of last year.

    Through a combination of often relaxed but sometimes tense gameplay, a dreamy atmosphere, and genuine characters that feel like they’re actually alive and all living together in this isolated society of longing, Undertale transcends its medium and becomes a genuinely moving experience I would recommend to anyone who is open to a sometimes sorrowful, sometimes hilarious, always bizarre and engaging emotional journey.
